UPON PURCHASING A 2002 JETTA GLS TDI 4-DOOR SEDAN (TURBO-CHARGED) ON 09/13/02 AND HAVING IT APPROX. 2 HOURS AFTER THE PURCHASE, THE PASSENGER SIDE POWER WINDOW MADE A LOUD "POP" SOUND WHEN ROLLING IT DOWN. THE WINDOW WOULD CONTINUE TO ROLL DOWN FINE BUT THE FURTHER DOWN IT WENT, THE MORE I HEARD A "CRUNCHING" SOUND. THE WINDOW ENDED UP GOING ALL THE WAY DOWN INTO THE DOOR, THUS LEAVING MY CAR OPEN TO THEFT AND ANY UNFORSEEN BAD WEATHER CONDITIONS. THE WINDOW GAVE NO PRIOR INDICATION THAT THIS ISSUE WOULD OCCUR. THE WINDOW WOULD NOT ROLL UP WHATSOEVER. FROM REPORTS READ ON THE INTERNET AND AT THE NHTSA SITE, THIS IS AN AWFULLY COMMON PROBLEM THAT VW SHOULD HAVE RESOLVED A LONG TIME AGO. APPARENTLY, IT'S STILL SADLY OUTSTANDING AND NHTSA OR OTHER SIMILAR ORGANIZATION SHOULD REQUIRE VW TO FIX THIS ASAP AT NO CHARGE TO THE CUSTOMER. NLM

CONSUMER STATES WHEN PARKED ON AN INCLINE AND THE KEY IN THE IGNITION, AND THE VEHICLE IDLING, THE VEHICLE WILL SLIP OUT OF PARK AND START TO ROLL BACK. CONTACTED DEALER.*JB

ENGINE COILS FAIL WHILE DRIVING LOSS OF POWER DANGEROUS. VW KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM, REFUSES TO FIX ALL COILS, SAYS WE HAVE TO WAIT FOR THEM TO FAIL THAT CAUSES ACCIDENTS. SAFETY RELATED RECALL OF ALL COILS REQUIRED. DT
I BOUGHT MY 2001 JETTA IN NOVEMBER OF 2001 IN GOOD FAITH WITH THE EXCITEMENT OF BUYING MY FIRST VW AND THE ARMREST BROKE THE FIRST WEEK I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE. IN MARCH, THE BACK ASHTRAY WAS REPLACED (WHICH HAS NEVER BEEN USED) BUT HAD SPRINGS POP OUT OF IT AND THE ARMREST WAS REPLACED AGAIN. ON AUGUST 26TH MY VEHICLES RADIO STOPPED WORKING AND WOULD NOT WORK. I CONTACTED MY DEALERSHIP, RUSSEL VW, AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT. I WAS TOLD BY MR. SCOTT MILLS THAT THE RADIO WAS PROBABLY DEFECTIVE AND I WOULD HAVE TO GET A NEW ONE. MAJOR INCONVENIENCE BUT I SET UP AN APPOINTMENT FOR AUGUST 30TH. ON AUGUST 29TH WHILE DRIVING MY CHILDREN TO SCHOOL THE VEHICLES EMERGENCY LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE CAR STARTED SHAKING AND SMOKING. RUSSEL VW HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TO THEIR SHOP, TOLD ME I HAD DEFECTIVE COILS AND REPLACED THEM AND THE RADIO/STEREO AND I RECEIVED MY VEHICLE BACK ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 30, 2002. THE VEHICLE RAN GOOD FOR 30 MINUTES ALTHOUGH ONE SPEAKER WAS NOW BLOWN AND THE CAR STARTED TO DRIVE WITH LOTS OF HESITATION AND ON TUESDAY, THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE HAD STOPPED WORKING AND THE TEMPERATURE LIGHT CAME ON. I RETURNED THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 2002. I WAS CONTACTED BY THE DEALERSHIP, WHICH REPLACED THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE AND ANOTHER COIL (I THINK), AND TOLD ME THEIR MECHANIC WANTED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOME BECAUSE HE COULDNT LOCATE THE PROBLEM BUT COULD FEEL THE ENGINE HESITATION. ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 6TH, MR. MILLS CONTACTED ME TOLD ME THAT RUSSEL VW FELT I HAD A FAULTY TRANSMISSION AND IT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. NOW THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM I WAS HOPING VW WOULD WORK WITH ME BY EITHER EXTENDING THE WARRANTY OR LETTING ME TRADE THIS JETTA FOR ANOTHER ONE.*AK
THIS IS A COMPLAINT ABOUT MY 2002 VOLKSWAGON JETTA 1.8T THAT HAS BEEN TOWED TWICE TO REPAIR FAULTY ENGINE COILS. VOLKSWAGON REFUSED TO REPLACE ALL FOR COILS AND SAYS THE ONLY WAY THEY WILL REPLACE THEM IS IF THEY FAIL.
POWER WINDOW REGULATOR FAILED, ALLOWING WINDOW TO FALL INSIDE DOOR WELL WITH NO WARNING. DEALERSHIP USED TAPE TO PULL UP WINDOW TO HOLD IT. TAPE HELD A COUPLE OF DAYS AND WINDOW FELL AGAIN WHILE RAINING AND PARKING. PART REPLACED. CURRENTLY, PASSENGER'S WINDOW DID THE SAMETHING. PART IS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER. *AK *SLC
OWNERS MANUAL INDICATES THAT SEAT BELT WARNING ON DASHBOARD WILL ILLUMINATE IF SEAT BELTS ARE NOT WORN. HOWEVER, IF SEAT BELTS AREN'T WORN NOTHING WILL FLASH AS A REMINDER. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION.*AK
LOWER SIDE AIR BAGS DEPOLYED WHILE DRIVING DOWN STREET. UPPER SIDE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AFTER DRIVER AND TWO PASSENGERS EXITED VEHICLE AT CURB AND VEHICLE WAS STOPPED.*AK
I'VE TAKEN MY 2002 JETTA 1.8T IN ON 3 OCCASIONS TO HAVE AN IGNITION COIL REPLACED, AND I'M STILL RUNNING THE CAR WITH THE FOURTH ORIGINAL IGNITION COIL. THE SERVICE MANAGER EVEN STATED, "IT'S PROBABLY ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THE FOURTH GOES BAD, BUT WE AREN'T AUTHORIZED TO REPLACE IT IF IT'S NOT HAVING ANY PROBLEMS."
PASSENGER'S SIDE FRONT WINDOW GROUND TO A HALT THEN COLLAPSED INTO THE DOOR FRAME. WINDOW WOULD NOT COME BACK UP. DEALER REPORTS THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE: THE TEFLON GUIDE SLEEVES BREAK, ESPECIALLY IN HOT CLIMATES, AND ALLOW THE WINDOW TO FALL INTO THE DOOR. DEALER WILL NOT REPLACE OTHER SLIDES UNTIL THEY FAIL EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 1,300 MILES ON IT! DEALER CLAIMS REPLACEMENT PARTS HAVE BEEN REDESIGNED TO INCLUDE METAL REINFORCEMENT. THIS IS HUGE ISSUE, ESPECIALLY SINCE THERE IS NO WARNING BEFORE FAILURE. IN INCLEMENT WEATHER THE CAR BECOMES TOTALLY UNDRIVABLE AND CANNOT BE SECURED. OTHER MODEL YEARS, INCLUDING 2001 JETTAS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS. VW SHOULD REPAIR ALL FOUR WINDOWS ON ALL JETTAS WITH THIS TYPE OF WINDOW GUIDE SLEEVE.
WHEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED FROM A STOP, THE VEHICLE STALLED MOMENTARILY AND THEN ACCELERATED. THERE WAS APPROXIMATELY A 3-5 SECOND DELAY IN ACCELERATION. DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE PROBLEM.*JB *TS
I BOUGHT 2002 JETTA FROM SUNNYVALE VOLKSWAGEN THIS APRIL AND LAST WEEK I CAME TO KNOW THAT A RECALL ON THE ABS CONTROL UNIT (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID: 02V031000) APPLIES TO MY MODEL. I IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA, INC. IF MY CAR HAS THE DEFECTIVE ABS UNIT OR NOT BUT THEY SAID THEY HAD NO IDEA. THEY SAID THEY CANNOT TELL FROM VIN OR ALL THE INFORMATION I PROVIDED TO THEM. I CONTACTED THEM AGAIN TO CONFIRM IF WHAT THEY HAD TOLD ME WAS CORRECT OR NOT AND THEY ADMITTED MY CAR STILL HAS THE DEFECTIVE ABS CONTROL UNIT. THE RECALL DATE WAS 02/04/2002 SO SUNNYVALE VOLKSWAGEN MUST HAVE KNOWN THAT MY CAR HAD THE DEFECTIVE ABS UNIT WHEN THEY SOLD IT TO ME. THE DEFECT NOT ONLY DECREASED MY CAR'S RESELL VALUE BUT ALSO PUT MY LIFE IN DANGER. WHEN I ASKED [XXX], THE SALE ASSOCIATE ASSIGNED TO ME, ABOUT 'SAFETY FIRST', HE SAID "LIKE, SEATBELT". THAT'S IT. MAYBE HE JUST WANTED TO SKIP THE SUBJECT BECAUSE OF THE ABS UNIT. I DID NOT BUY IT IF I WAS INFORMED OF THE RECALL THAT CAN RESULT IN A FIRE. MY CAR WAS ON SALE AND ACCORDING TO ONE OF THE MANAGERS (HIS NAME IS SAID, NOT SURE ABOUT SPELLING), THEY HAD 3 JETTA'S ON SALE SO I THINK THERE ARE TWO MORE JETTA OWNERS THAT PROBABLY DO NOT KNOW ABOUT THE RECALL. ALL OWNERS SHOULD RECEIVE RECALL NOTICE NO MATTER WHEN THEY BUY A CAR, BEFORE OR AFTER THE RECALL DATE. DEALERSHIPS LIKE SUNNYVALE VOLKSWAGEN PUT CAR OWNERS AND OTHER DRIVERS' LIVES IN DANGER. WINDOWS SUDDENLY AND INEXPLICABLY FALL DOWN INTO DOORS. IF CHILDREN ARE IN THE CAR WHEN THIS OCCURS THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD (I HAVE CHILD SAFETY WINDOWS IN THE BACK SEATS OF MY CAR AND USE THEM WHEN MY NEPHEWS ARE IN THE CAR). THE CAR IS OPEN TO THEFT AND DAMAGE FROM THE ELEMENTS. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH VW CARS AS I FOUND OUT THROUGH TALKING TO OTHER CUSTOMERS. NAR 03-24-2003 MR. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE REPAIR SHOP ON 6 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS FOR THE SAME STALLING PROBLEM. THE FIRST TIME THE INCIDENT HAPPENED THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER AFTER COMING TO A STOP. AFTER THE FIFTH VISIT THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE IGNITION COIL AND THE CONSUMER WOULD HAVE NO OTHER PROBLEMS, HOWEVER THAT PROVED NOT TO BE TRUE. EACH TIME THE CONSUMER WENT TO THE DEALER ANOTHER PART WAS REPLACED WITH THE SAME RESULTS. *JB

MY 2002 VW JETTA HAS SMELLED OF MELTED CRAYONS SINCE THE DAY THAT I BOUGHT IT. I AM NOT ALONE...JUST DOING A GOOGLE SEARCH BRINGS UP A LOT OF POSTS. VW OF AMERICA IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND IS NOT DOING ANYTHING TO HELP THOSE OF US WITH THIS PROBLEM. THE SMELL IS SO BAD THAT IT GIVES ME A HEADACHE IF I CAN'T HAVE THE WINDOWS DOWN. I WAS DRIVING IN DOWNTOWN BOSTON IN A CONSTRUCTION AREA TRAVELING ABOUT 10-15 MPH, WHEN MY AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. I CONTACTED VW, THEY TOLD ME IT WAS AN ACCIDENT THAT I HIT SOMETHING AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO GO THROUGH MY INSURANCE. I DID NOT HIT ANYTHING AS THERE WAS NO PHYSICAL DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE. I DON'T KNOW THE EXACT DATE, I WOULD HAVE TO LOOK IT UP IN MY RECORDS AS IT HAPPENED 4 YEARS AGO. *NM

CONSUMER STATES WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING SMOKE BEGUN TO COME FROM THE HOOD AREA NEAR DRIVER'S SIDE. CONSUMER STATES SHE STOPPED THE AUTO AND ASKED A PERSON FOR SOMETHING TO PUT THE FIRE OUT. SHE STATES SHE HAD AUTO TOWED TO HER HOME, THE MECHANIC CHECKED IT AND SHE WAS TOLD THAT THE MASTER BRAKE ABS CONTROL UNIT AND PART OF THE WIRING HARNESS. MR

PASSENGER FRONT AIRBAGS DEPLOYED WITHOUT CAUSE WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. THIS IS THE SECOND SAFETY PROBLEM WITH THIS JETTA, THE FIRST BEING UNINTENTIONAL ACCELLERATION.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AND FOR NO REASON, THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED, THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED SOME ACHES AND BURNS, THE DEALER STATED THAT THE COMPUTER INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS IN A COLLISION, HOWEVER AFTER INSPECTION IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT THE VEHICLE HAD NO SIGNS OF DAMAGE ANYWHERE, IT IS UNCERTAIN AS TO IF THE AIR BAGS WERE FRONT OR SIDE. *SLC

HELLO. MY COMPLAINT IS ABOUT THE 2002 JETTA 1.8T. I PURCHASED MINE IN MAY 2002 FROM CURRAN VW IN STRATFORD, CT. WITH JUST 400 MILES ON THE CAR, AN IGNITION COIL MALFUNCTIONED, AND THE SHIFTING PERFORMANCE WAS VERY POOR. IN NOVEMBER, THE SECOND IGNITION COIL MALFUNCTIONED. I WAS PLACED IN A RENTAL FOR ABOUT 10 DAYS. MADE THE TRIP BACK TO MA TO PICK UP THE CAR, GOT BACK TO CT JUST TO HAVE THE THIRD IGNITION COIL MALFUNCTION, LESS THAN ONE WEEK LATER. THEN, TWO WEEKS AGO THE CAR BEGAN, ONCE AGAIN, TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND LOSE POWER ON I-95 AT 6:30AM ON MY WAY TO WORK. I WAS FORCED TO TAKE THE CAR DOWN TO 20MPH. I DROPPED THE CAR OFF AT VW FOR INSPECTION AND WAS TOLD IT WAS FINE AND THAT IT WAS NOT THE IGNITION COIL, BUT THAT THEY RESET THE COMPUTER FOR MY PEACE OF MIND. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT DESPITE WHAT I'VE READ ABOUT THE RECENT RECALL RE: THE IGNITION COILS THAT I HAD TO WAIT UNTIL THEY FAILED BEFORE HAVING ANY REPLACED. (THE ONE REPLACED LAST MAY WAS REPLACED WITH THE SAME POOR QUALITY COIL.) IT'S ABOUT A WEEK LATER AND THE CAR HAS BEEN TOWED FOR THE 4TH IGNITION COIL FAILURE. I CAN'T TAKE IT. I FEEL TOTALLY UNSAFE IN THIS CAR. I DRIVE IN THE SLOW LANE SO AS TO BE CLOSE TO THE BREAK DOWN LANE. HOW ANYONE CAN SAY THAT THIS IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE IS BEYOND ME, WHEN THE CAR SIGNIFICANTLY LOSES POWER WITH NO WARNING - AND ON A HIGHWAY WHERE CARS ARE TRAVELING AT 60-80 MPH! THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE THAT MUST BE ADDRESSED. THIS CAR WAS A TOTAL WASTE OF $25K+. WHAT A TERRIBLE FIRST NEW CAR BUYING EXPERIENCE.*JB
BOTH FRONT WINDOWS HAVE FALLEN. I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT MY CAR FOR OVER 2 WKS. THE FIRST TIME THE WINDOW FELL IT TOOK ABOUT A WEEK. ALL DEALERS IN MIAMI HAVE THE WINDOWS ON BACKORDER DUE TO THE HIGH AMOUNT OF INCIDENTS.*JB
FRONT LEFT (DRIVER'S SIDE) SEAT MATERIAL SPLIT ON THE SEAM HOLDING THE FRONT MATERIAL TO THE SIDE MATERIAL. DIRECTLY UNDER THE SPLIT IS A METAL BRACKET THAT IS NOT PADDED. THIS BRACKET LIKELY CAUSED THE SEAM TO SEPARATE. VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA (VOA) HAD ME BRING THE VEHICLE IN TO ONE ONTO VOLKSWAGEN FOR INSPECTION. REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT WAS DENIED BY THE SERVICE MANAGER (CARL SCHIDZICK) DENIED THE CLAIM BECAUSE I WAS BEYOND THE 12,000 MILE WARRANTY. THE VOA REGIONAL SERVICE MANAGER WHOSE NAME WAS REFUSED TO ME BACKED UP THE DEALER AND REFUSED REPAIR/REPLACEMENT. VOA WOULD NOT PROVIDE A COPY OF THEIR REPORT, WOULD NOT PROVIDE CONTACT INFORMATION FOR THE REGIONAL SERVICE MANAGER AND WOULD NOT ALLOW ANY APPEAL. THEY SAID THEY HAVE RECEIVED NO COMPLAINTS REGARDING SEAT MATERIAL FAILURE ON JETTAS. IF THE SEPARATION HAD OCCURRED BEFORE 12,000 MILES THEY SAID THEY WOULD HAVE REPAIRED OR REPLACED THE ITEM. MY NEW CAR SEAT COVER BLOCKS DEPLOYMENT OF THE SIDE AIRBAG. *LA
EXCESSIVE ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION. HIS IS MY SECOND NEW JETTA THAT BURNS ENGINE OIL. THE CAR CONSUMES 1 QT OF OIL PER 2000 MI. TAKING INTO CONSIDERATION THIS CAR HAD 7 MILES WHEN I LEASE IT, AND I DRIVE UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS THIS ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION, FOR ME, IS TOTALLY UNREASONABLE. IF I WOULD NOT REFILL THE ENGINE OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGE INTERVALS (5000 MI), THE CAR WOULD CONSUME 55% OF ITS TOTAL ENGINE OIL, POSSIBLY BURNING ITS ENGINE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW CURTAIN AND PASSENGER SEAT AIR BAG INADVERTENTLY DEPLOYED WITHOUT CAUSE. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED. THERE WAS NO IMPACT THAT CAUSED THE AIR BAGS TO BEPLOY, THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED INJURY TO ARM WHEN AIR BAG DEPLOYED *AK *NLM
BOLTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER WINDOW DOESN'T OPEN OR CLOSE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THEY ARE LOCKED IN PLACE AND CAN'T BE OPENED UNTIL THE UNITS ARE REPLACED.*AK
DRIVING ON THE TURNPIKE, THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED WITHOUT ANY SORT OF IMPACT. THERE IS NO VISIBLE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE, WHICH WAS ONLY 2 MONTHS OLD AT THE TIME. FORTUNATELY THE ONLY INJURY WAS A BURN FROM THE AIRBAG ON THE SIDE OF MY ARM. MY BIGGEST FEAR IS KNOWING RELATIVES AND FRIENDS WHO DRIVE JETTAS AND WHO HAVE YOUNG CHILDREN IN THEIR CAR. THIS INCIDENT COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN FATAL. HOPEFULLY YOUR ESTABLISHMENT CAN ENCOURAGE VW, WHERE I HAVE FAILED, TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS DEFECT.*AK

AT 70000 MILES, JETTA GLS SEDAN WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION STOPPED BEING ABLE TO SHIFT INTO REVERSE AND STARTED REVVING HARD BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND. DEALERSHIP CLAIMS NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE PROBLEM, THOUGH THESE FORUMS ARE FULL OF REPORTS OF SIMILAR PROBLEMS. AFTER A SERIES OF EXPENSIVE TESTS (400$ TOTAL) DEALERSHIP RECOMMENDS A NEW TRANSMISSION TO THE TUNE OF 5000$, WHICH IS APPROXIMATELY 70% OF THE CAR'S BLUE BOOK VALUE. DESPITE THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS VW REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE OR COMPENSATE THOSE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED IT. *TR
I BOUGHT THE CAR 3 DAYS LATER THE PROBLEM(S) STARTED. AND THEY HAVE BEEN GOING EVER SINCE. SHIFTING HARD, DISPLAY LIGHTS, WOULD NOT START, WONDOWS WOULD NOT ROLL DOWN, OR IFF THEY DID, THEY MADE A LOUD THUD. *AK
IGNITION COILS ON THE VW JETTA HAVE FAILED TWICE. THE COMPUTER MODULE ON THE CAR HAS ALSO BEEN REPROGRAMMED IN AN ATTEMPT TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. WHEN THE IGNITION COILS FAIL, THE CAR IS UNSAFE AND NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE. IGNITION COIL FAILURE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS COULD BE INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS. PLEASE MAKE VW ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM IMMEDIATELY. *NLM

CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR A CREAKING NOISE IN PASSENGER SIDE DOOR. ALSO, DEALER DISCOVERED ON A TEST DRIVE THAT ALL ROTORS WERE WARPED. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATON. *AK

THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM, ALMOST EVERYONE I HAVE SPOKE TO ABOUT IT AT THE DEALERSHIP ADMITS THAT IT IS A HUGE PROBLEM. THEY KNEW WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR WHEN I CALLED WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT IT. THIS HAPPENED TWICE WITH IN TWO MONTHS OF THE FIRST PROBLEM. YOU NEED TO INVESTAGE THIS BEFORE SOME ONE GETS KILLED. NO SAFETY DEFECT LISTED. *AK
ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT WINDOW (2) AND THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT WINDOW (1) HAS FALLEN DOWN INTO THE DOOR. ON THE FIRST OCCASION THE WINDOW SHATTERED INSIDE THE DOOR AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE LATEST INCIDENT HAPPENED ON JULY 1ST, 2002 AND AS OF THIS DATE (7/19/02) VW HAS NOT ONLY NOT REPAIRED THE CAR, BUT CAN'T GIVE ME A DATE WHEN THEY CAN BECAUSE THEY CAN'T LOCATE PARTS TO REPAIR THE ASSEMBLY. THE CAR IS BEING DRIVEN WITH THE DEALER INSTALLED TAPE HOLDING THE WINDOWS UP, BUT THIS DOESN'T WORK VERY WELL IN THE ARIZONA SUN OR DURING MONSOON SEASON. I'D ALSO LIKE TO ADD THAT THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED MY WIFE WAS DRIVING FROM PHOENIX TO TUCSON (AS SHE DOES 4 TIMES A WEEK, ROUND TRIP OF 230 MILES DAILY) AND HAD TO DRIVE OVER 100 MILES WITH NO WINDOW IN 111 DEGREE HEAT. THE LOCAL DEALER HAS BEEN GREAT THROUGHTOUT THIS WHOLE EXERCISE, BUT VW HAS NOT GIVEN CUSTOMER SERVICE I WOULD BRAG ABOUT. ONE MORE ITEM I'D LIKE TO ADD - I'VE TALKED WITH SEVERAL OTHER JETTA OWNERS WHO HAVE HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. ANY HELP YOU CAN OFFER WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.*AK
I HAD JUST GOT MY CAR BACK FROM THE SHOP AROUND 4P.M. I HAD PARKED MY CAR IN THE DRIVEWAY , WELL ABOUT FIFTEEN MINUTES LATER MY FRIEND WAS LEAVEING AND SHE NOTICED THAT MY CAR WAS DOWN THE STREET IN MY NEIGHBORS YARD AND THAT THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT WERE LOOKING FOR WHO OWNED THE CAR. I GO RUNNING OUT AS THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND POLICE WERE COMMING UP THE STREET AND I TOLD THE THAT IT WAS MY CAR. ANYWAY THE CAR WAS IN GEAR AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS ON THE POLICE OFFICER TOOK PICTURES OF THE CAR AND TOOK PICTURES OF THE CAR BEING IN GEAR AND THAT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE BEING ON HE ASKED ME TO FILL OUT A REPORT SO I DID. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT I CAN DO ABOUT THIS I FEEL THAT THEY SHOULD REPLACE THE CAR, AND SEND IT BACK TO THE MANUFACTURER. PLEASE CONTACT ME TO LET ME KNOW WHAT I MIGHT BE ABLE TO DO ABOUT THIS SITUATION. OIL CONSUMPTION. VOLKSWAGEN SAYS "YOUR OIL SHOULD BE CHANGED EVERY 5000 MILES" WELL I HAVE A JETTA AND HAVE RUN OUT OF OIL COMPLETELY EMPTY 3 TIMES UNDER 3000. I AM CURRENTLY UNDERGOING AN OIL CONSUMPTION WITH VOLKSWAGON. AT THIS POINT I AM AT 3000 MILES AND I AM 2 1/2 QUARTS LOW AND STILL HAVE 2000 MILES TILL I HAVE AN OIL CHANGE. THERE ARE NO LEAKS, NO OIL ON THE ENGINE. IT IS BASICALLY JUST DISAPPEARING ON ME. IF I HAD NOT CAUGHT ON TO THIS, I COULD HAVE BLOWN THE ENGINE AND IT WOULD HAVE BEEN MY FAULT. ONCE VOLKSWAGON STUDIES MY OIL CONSUPTION STUDY THEY WILL DETERMINE WHAT THEY ARE GOING TO DO WITH IT. I HAVE HAD IT WITH VOLKSWAGON. I FEEL AS IF I LIVE THERE. I AM THERE MORE THAN I AM AT HOME WITH ALL KINDS OF PROBLEMS.
