AFTER DRIVING IN THE RAIN AND PARKING MY CAR IN LIGHT RAIN FOR ABOUT TWO AND A HALF HOURS THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULD NOT WORK WHEN I STARTED THE CAR. I TINKERED AROUND WITH THE LEVERS AND THE REAR WIPER WORKED AND THE WASHER FLUID WORKED, BUT NOT THE FRONT WIPERS. I CHECKED THE FUSE INDICATED IN THE MANUAL AND IT WAS NOT BLOWN. I WAS FORCED TO DRIVE HOME IN THE RAIN WITHOUT THE USE OF MY FRONT WIPERS. *TR
WE WERE TRAVELING IN BRANSON, MO. FROM OUR HOME IN EAST TEXAS WHEN THERE WAS WHAT SOUNDED LIKE A SINGLE MUFFLED POP FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE GLOW PLUG LAMP STARTED BLINKING AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I THINK IT WAS BLINKING ALSO. AT THE TIME I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 30 MPH. AND I HAD JUST STARTED UP A STEEP GRADE. ALSO, ABOUT THE TIME THE GLOW PLUG LIGHT STARTED BLINKING, THE MFD DISPLAYED THE "MAJOR ENGINE MALFUNCTION" MESSAGE. THE ENGINE LOST POWER BUT DID NOT STOP AND I WAS ABLE TO GO ABOUT 300 YARDS TO A SAFE PLACE WHERE I COULD PULL OFF THE STREET OUT OF TRAFFIC AND PARK. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE VOLKSWAGEN DEALER IN SPRINGFIELD, MO. (SPRINGFIELD VOLKSWAGEN) FAULT CODE THROWN WAS P0299. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT A COUPLING ON A LINE GOING INTO THE TURBOCHARGER HAD NOT BEEN ADEQUATELY TIGHTENED DURING ASSEMBLY OF THE ENGINE AND THE HOSE HAD COME LOOSE DISABLING THE TURBOCHARGER AND THE ENGINE. *TR
VEHICLE SHIFTS INTO NEUTRAL WHILE DRIVING. VEHICLE HAS BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT VEHICLE STILL HAS PROBLEM AFTER RECALL SERVICE HAS BEEN DONE. NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V333000 IS FOR THE RECALL THAT WAS COMPLETED ON THIS VEHICLE IN OCT. 2009. AT VW DEALER WHERE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. ON NOV 27, 2009 VEHICLE SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL WHILE DRIVING AND HAS DONE IT ON 2 OTHER OCCASIONS. HAVE TAKEN VEHICLE BACK TO DEALER ON NOV. 29, 2009 AND AWAITING RESULTS OF THEIR DIAGNOSES. I AM SENDING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE I BELIEVE THAT THIS DEFECT IS NOT GETTING FIXED WITH THE ORIGINAL RECALL, WHICH LEAVES A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM OPEN TO OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES AND OTHERS. *TR
POSSIBLE EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE IS ONCE IN A WHILE WHEN THE CAR IS OFF AND PARKED THE ENGINE FAN WILL COME ON RUNNING VERY HIGH AND THE CAR SMELLS. THIS OCCURRED ABOUT 4 TIMES IN 4 MONTHS. THEN IN THE 5TH MONTH OF OWNERSHIP, WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, I HEARD A BEEP, LOOKED DOWN AT MY DASH AND BEFORE I COULD FINISH READING THE MESSAGE THE CAR DIED. THE DASH INDICATED SOMETHING ABOUT GET TO A WORKSHOP, THEN THE MESSAGE DISAPPEARED AND THE COIL LIGHT CAME ON. I PUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL AND NOTHING HAPPENED. THANKGOODNESS NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME OR WE WOULD HAVE BEEN HIT, I PUSHED THE CAR TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND CALLED A TOW TRUCK. I WAS 80 MILES FROM HOME AND JUST MINUTES FROM GETTING ON THE MAIN FREEWAY. I WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST VW DEALER. IT WAS A WEEKEND SO THE SERVICE DEPT WAS CLOSED. MONDAY I WAS TOLD THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM WENT OUT AND WAS GOING TO BE COMPLETELY REPLACED. IT WAS REPLACED. IT'S BEEN 4 WEEKS SINCE IT WAS REPLACED AND TODAY WHEN I DROVE 25 MILES AND PARKED MY CAR, THE ENGINE FAN CAME ON RUNNING VERY HIGH, AND LOUD WITH THE SMELL OF BURNT RUBBER AND SMOKE COMING FROM THE HOOD. I CALLED THE DEALER AND WILL BE TAKING IT INTO THE DEALER NEXT WEEK, THEY ARE CONCERNED WITH THE SMELL. *TR
I OWN A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA TDI SPORTWAGEN. IT HAS APPROXIMATELY 8,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. I BELIEVE THAT THIS CAR HAS A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW, WHICH CREATES A VERY UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITION. ON A DAILY BASIS, I EXPERIENCE A SITUATION IN WHICH I AM WAITING AT A STOP LIGHT TO TURN LEFT, AND WHEN I DEPRESS THE PEDAL TO ACCELERATE THROUGH THE INTERSECTION, THE CAR MOVES A FEW FEET (INTO TRAFFIC) AND THEN STOPS ALTOGETHER. AFTER PRESSING THE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR FOR 2-3 SECONDS, IT RELUCTANTLY STARTS MOVING AGAIN, AND I OBSERVE A HUGE CLOUD OF WHITE VAPOR POURING OUT OF THE TAILPIPE AS THE CAR TAKES OFF AGAIN. MY FEAR IS THAT I, OR SOMEONE ELSE, WILL BE UNABLE TO CLEAR AN INTERSECTION IN A DANGEROUS (OR OTHERWISE NORMAL) SITUATION AND WILL BE INVOLVED IN A HEAD-ON OR T-BONE ACCIDENT THAT WILL CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY AND/OR DEATH. THE CAR DISPLAYS NO ERROR CODES, AND OTHERWISE DRIVES PERFECTLY NORMAL. *TR
SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE, CAR BEGAN TO FILL WITH WATER. NOT DIRECTLY FROM THE SUN ROOF BUT FROM A DISCONNECTED OR DAMAGED DRAIN HOSE. CAUSING SERIOUS MOLD & ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. VW HAS RELUCTANTLY LOOKED INTO THE PROBLEM, REPLACED PARTS, BUT ONLY MADE IT WORSE. AND THE CAR IS NOW UNDRIVABLE. *TR
WHEN AT A STOP SIGN OR AFTER APPLYING THE BRAKE, THERE IS A LONG LAG BEFORE THE ACCELERATOR WILL ENGAGE. ONCE WHEN STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN, I LET THE BRAKE PEDAL GO AND ENGAGED THE ACCELERATOR BECAUSE THERE WAS ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE CAR ROLLED INTO THE ONCOMING LANES AND ONLY WHEN I REACHED THE THIRD LANE DID THE ACCELERATOR ENGAGE. AN ONCOMING LARGE PICKUP WAS ACCELERATING AWAY FROM HIS TRAFFIC LIGHT AND ALMOST BROADSIDED MY CAR. HE APPARENTLY DIDN'T SEE ME UNTIL ALMOST UPON ME. THIS LONG LAG BETWEEN LETTING THE BRAKE GO AND PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR. THE BOARDWALK VW PEOPLE OF RICHARDSON, TX AS WELL AS THE UNIVERSITY VW PEOPLE IN ALBUQUERQUE, NM SAID THE THIS WAS BECAUSE BOTH THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATION DEPENDED ON HYDRAULIC PRESSURE THAT IS SHARED BETWEEN THEM. THEY ALSO SAID THAT THEY HAVE REPORTED THIS TO VW AND VW SAID THAT THIS WAS DESIGNED THIS WAY ON PURPOSE. I THINK THAT THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. *TR
VEHICLE WAS TURNING INTO A PARKING SPOT, DRIVER HAD MOVED FOOT FROM ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO BRAKE. SUDDENLY, ENGINE SURGED AND VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE. THE DRIVER APPLIED SIGNIFICANT BRAKE PRESSURE TO HALT VEHICLE AND TURNED OFF IGNITION. VEHICLE SUBSEQUENTLY DROVE NORMALLY AND DEALER INSPECTION FOUND NO PROBLEM. *CN
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. WHILE EXAMINING THE VEHICLE THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE REAR MIDDLE SEAT HEAD REST COULD NOT BE ADJUSTED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE HEAD REST COULD NOT BE MOVED OR REPLACED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 2000.
I HAD MY 09 TDI TOWED INTO A V.W. DEALER TODAY FOR A MAJOR OIL LEAK. THE DETAILS ARE AS FOLLOWS: I PARKED MY TDI IN MY DRIVEWAY THIS MORNING AFTER A LOCAL DRIVE. NO MECHANICAL PROBLEMS WERE OBSERVED. IN THE AFTERNOON I WENT FOR ANOTHER DRIVE. I BARELY GOT OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY WHEN THE CARS OIL LIGHT STARTED BLINKING, AND THE MFD SAID STOP THE VEHICLE-LOW OIL. I PULLED BACK IN MY DRIVEWAY AND NOTICED SEVERAL LITERS OF OIL ON THE GROUND UNDER MY CAR. I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER BY A FLATBED TOW TRUCK. THE SERVICE MANAGER CALLED ME INTO THE SHOP AND SHOWED ME THAT THE OIL FILTERS HOUSING CAP HAD BEEN SCREWED LOOSE, AND PLACED ON-TOP OF THE HOUSING UPSIDE DOWN. THE CAP HAD A SMALL PIECE MISSING JUST BEFORE THE THREADS BEGIN. SINCE THE CAR HAD 1 1/2 QUARTS OF OIL STILL IN THE OIL PAN THE SERVICE MANAGER DID NOT FEEL THAT ANY ENGINE DAMAGE OCCURRED. I EXPLAINED TO THE MANAGER THAT I HAD BEEN HOME ALL DAY, THAT MY CAR WAS LOCKED, ALARMED, AND PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY. THE MANAGER INSISTED THAT SOMEONE DID THIS DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE. HE COULD NOT EXPLAIN HOW SOMEONE WAS ABLE TO GET IN THE VEHICLE WITHOUT THE KEY, AND WITHOUT CAUSING ANY DAMAGE OR LEAVING ANY TOOL MARKS, OR SETTING OFF THE CAR ALARM. I HAD MY VEHICLES 10K SERVICE DONE AT THIS DEALERSHIP 800 MILES AGO. DURING THAT SERVICE THE WRONG OIL WAS USED, AND THE VEHICLE WAS SEVERELY OVERFILLED WITH OIL. THESE PROBLEMS WERE CAUGHT BY MYSELF, AND CORRECTED BEFORE LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP. IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THE DEALER CAUSED A THIRD PROBLEM DURING MY 10K SERVICE, SUCH AS NOT PROPERLY TIGHTENING THE OIL FILTER'S CAP, OR WAS MY VEHICLE VANDALIZED BY A MISSION IMPOSSIBLE IMPERSONATOR? IS IT PROBABLE THAT ENGINE DAMAGE OCCURRED TO THE VEHICLE? IF WHAT THE DEALER SAID IS TRUE THIS VEHICLE HAS A SEVERE SECURITY FLAW! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CLUTCH CONNECTOR WAS FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT HE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE CLUTCH PLUNGER. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED APPROXIMATELY ONE AND A HALF YEARS LATER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PLUNGER WAS DANGLING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER BUT THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 45,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED FOLLOWED BY THE ENGINE STALLING. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESTART AND WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, A SIMILAR FAILURE OCCURRED A SECOND TIME AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DIFFERENT DEALER AND REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000. UPDATED 12/13/11
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH WHEN THERE WAS A SLIGHT LOSS OF ENGINE POWER AND THE GLOW PLUG WARNING INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE WARNING INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY DETECTED THAT IMPROPER FUEL WAS CONSUMED IN THE FUEL TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO ANOTHER DEALER FOR A SECOND OPINION AND THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THAT THE FUEL SYSTEM WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE TRANSMISSION DISENGAGED AND DISPLAY STARTED TO BLINK JUST AS I WAS ENTERING AN INTERSECTION HAD TO STOP AND RESTART CAR. *TR
CAR STALLED 5 TIMES OVER A TWO DAY PERIOD DUEL TO A FAILURE OF THE FUEL PUMP. DASH BOARD WARNING SAID "ENGINE FAULT WORKSHOP" AND GLOW PLUG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. OWNER MANUAL SAID TO BRING INTO SHOP SOON. DEALERSHIP FOUND METAL SHAVINGS THROUGHOUT THE FUEL SYSTEM THAT WAS CAUSED BY A FAILED HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. THE WARNING LIGHTS FIRST CAME ON WHEN THEIR WAS A NEAR EMPTY CONDITION IN THE FUEL TANK. I HAVE HEARD THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO OTHERS WHEN FUEL IS LOW. COST FOR REPAIR WOULD HAVE BEEN AROUND $6000, BUT VW WARRANTY COVERED THIS. IF THIS STALL HAD HAPPENED ON THE INTERSTATE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS. AS IT WAS I HAD A POLICE CAR PUSH ME OUT OF AN INTERSECTION DURING RUSH HOUR TO A SAFE SPOT.
2009 VOLKSWAGEN TDI JETTA 10,000 MILES. BROUGHT CAR INTO DEALER AND POINTED OUT THAT I BELIEVE SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH ESP SYSTEM. BOTH BACK ROTORS ARE HOT ENOUGH TO BURN YOU AFTER DRIVING SHORT DISTANCES WITH VERY LITTLE BREAKING. DEALER DETERMINE DRIVER SIDE CALIPER WAS BAD. THEY ARE REPLACING DRIVER SIDE CALIBER. SAYS IT WAS DRAGGING AND CAUSING ESP SYSTEM TO PULSE. WIFE HAS THE SAME PROBLEM ON HER 2009 TDI JETTA WHICH HAS 12000 MILES ON IT. BOTH CARS HAVE EXHIBITED THIS PROBLEM HAVE BEEN OCCURRING SINCE NEW. IT IS CAUSING PREMATURE BRAKE PAD AND ROTOR WEAR TO REAR. CAR IS STILL IN SHOP AFTER A WEEK WAITING ON PARTS. *TR
SIGNIFICANT REAR BRAKE WEAR ON 2009 VW JETTA. MY RR BRAKE WORE DOWN TO METAL. RL BRAKE WAS AT 60% REMAINING, AND FRONT BRAKES WERE ALMOST PERFECT. VW CALLS THIS TYPE OF WEAR "NORMAL." ANYBODY WHO HAS EVER DRIVEN A CAR OR WORKED ON BRAKES KNOWS THAT IS A LAUGHABLE ASSERTION. THERE IS NOTHING NORMAL ABOUT ONE SET OF PADS COMPLETELY FAILING WHILE ALL OTHERS ARE WELL WITHIN SPECS. NOT ONLY IS THIS ANNOYING, IT IS DANGEROUS. THE CAR IS OBVIOUSLY APPLYING BRAKE PRESSURE TO ONE WHEEL MORE THAN THE OTHER THREE. WHEN THIS WHEELS BRAKES FAIL, HOW IS THE CAR EXPECTED TO STOP? I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ONLINE AND FOUND MANY OTHER VW OWNERS EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE SAME RESPONSE FROM VW, WHICH IS TO BLAME IT ON THE CONSUMER'S DRIVING. IN SOME INSTANCES, THE BRAKES WORN TO METAL AS EARLY AS 14,000 MILES, AND OFTEN FAIL AGAIN IN AS LITTLE AS 7 MONTHS AFTER REPLACING. *TR
THE VEHICLE HAS A 1 TO 2 SECOND LAG WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STANDING START OR WHEN I STEP HARD ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. IT ACTS LIKE IT HAS TO THINK ABOUT IT FOR A WHILE BEFORE THE MOTOR STARTS TO REV UP AND THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGES. THIS HAS CAUSED SEVERAL NEAR-ACCIDENTS WHEN PULLING INTO TRAFFIC, AND AT STOP SIGNS WHEN OTHER DRIVERS DECIDED I'D WAITED TOO LONG AND STARTED INTO THE INTERSECTION AT THE SAME TIME MY CAR FINALLY DECIDED TO GET AROUND TO GOING. THIS IS A TDI WITH THE DSG TRANSMISSION. I HAD THE DEALER RUN A FULL DIAGNOSTIC AND THEY DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING. I SEE OTHERS REPORTING THE SAME BEHAVIOR HERE AND ELSEWHERE. I SUSPECT FAULTY PROGRAMMING IN EITHER THE ENGINE OR THE TRANSMISSION SOFTWARE, THOUGH IT MAY BE JUST THE INHERENT BEHAVIOR OF THE SYSTEM. I'LL PUT TODAY'S DATE ON THE "APPROXIMATE INCIDENT DATE" ALTHOUGH IT'S BEEN THIS WAY SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR IN NOVEMBER 2008. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA SPORTWAGEN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AS SHE WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH HER VEHICLE SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THERE IS A RECALL# 09V333000, POWER TRAIN, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEALER REPAIRED THE VEHICLE UNDER THE RECALL AT LEAST FOUR TIMES AND EACH TIME THE REPAIR WAS COMPLETE THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE FAILURE BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 9, 2009. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 15,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH USING THE CRUISE CONTROL, SHE BEGAN TAPPING ON THE STEERING AND SUDDENLY THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED. SHE CRASHED AFTER THE AIR BAG DEPLOYED; HOWEVER, SHE HAS NO MEMORY OF THE CRASH. SHE DID NOT SUSTAIN ANY INJURIES. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 4000.
THIS COMPLAINT IS FOR A 2009 VW JETTA TDI. ON A RECENT ROAD TRIP I NOTICED A BURNING ODOR COMING FROM MY DRIVERS SIDE REAR. I STOPPED MY VEHICLE TO INSPECT THE WHEELS AND SURE ENOUGH ONLY THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR WHEEL, AND ROTOR WAS HOT ENOUGH TO INSTANTLY FRY A EGG. THIS WHEEL ALSO HAD A BURNING SMELL COMING FROM IT (NO SMOKE WAS OBSERVED). THE NEXT MORNING I WENT TO A V.W. DEALER LOCATED IN ALLENTOWN TO HAVE MY BRAKES INSPECTED. THE DEALER REPORTED THAT "ROAD TESTED THE CAR AND CHECKED ALL BRAKES AND THEY ARE ALL WEARING EVENLY NO PROBLEM FOUND AT THIS TIME." ON MY DRIVE HOME WHILE THE DRIVERS SIDE WAS A LITTLE WARMER THEN THE OTHER WHEELS, THE BURNING PROBLEM DID NOT REOCCUR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH THE GEAR WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL, AND THEN THE VEHICLE DOWN-SHIFTED INTO THE NEUTRAL GEAR. HE WAS ABLE TO SAFELY RESTART THE VEHICLE TO CONTINUE NORMAL OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES FOR INSPECTION. THE TECHNICIANS WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE; THEREFORE, THEY COULD NOT PROVIDE A REMEDY. THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 6,000.
TURNING LEFT FROM TURN LANE WITH GREEN LIGHT. ONCOMING TRAFFIC WITH AMPLE SPACE TO MAKE THE LEFT TURN. I DRIVE QUITE A BIT AND THE PROBLEM WOULD OCCUR RANDOMLY, PERHAPS EVERY OTHER DAY. I'VE YET TO BE ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM BY RECREATING THE DRIVING CONDITIONS, BUT IT ALWAYS HAPPENS AT THE SAME SPEED, RIGHT AFTER UPSHIFTING. I NOTIFIED THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE PROBLEM RIGHT AWAY AND THEY CHECKED IT OUT WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN FOR IT'S FIRST SERVICE APPOINTMENT. TRANSMISSION SPONTANEOUSLY DISENGAGES WHILE VEHICLE IS MOVING. PROBLEM SOMETIMES FIXES ITSELF IMMEDIATELY, SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE RESTARTED IN ORDER FOR THE PROBLEM TO BE CLEARED. THE DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, BUT IS UNWILLING TO FIX IT SITTING THAT THEY CANNOT REPRODUCE THE CIRCUMSTANCES SURROUNDING THE PROBLEMS. THE DEALERSHIP WILL ONLY EXAMINE THE PROBLEM 24 HOURS BEFORE I INCUR CHARGES FOR THE LOANER VEHICLE. SO FAR NO PARTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED, AND NO WORK HAS BEEN DONE BEYOND ATTEMPTS TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. THERE IS A FALSE NEUTRAL ON THE VEHICLE. THE THROTTLE IS DEPRESSED AND THERE IS NO RESPONSE AS FAR AS POWER TO THE WHEELS. THE ENGINE RESPONDS BY INCREASING RPMS, BUT THE POWER IS NOT TRANSFERRED TO THE WHEELS. THIS IS UNSAFE AND UNSETTLING AS YOU ARE PLACED IN THE POSITION OF NOT KNOWING WHEN IT WILL OCCUR AND WHETHER ONE MIGHT BE TRYING TO MERGE OR MAKE A LEFT TURN AND SUDDENLY BE WITHOUT POWER AND SUBJECT TO BEING HIT. *TR
JETTA VEHICLE GOES INTO NEUTRAL ON IT'S OWN (WHILE STILL IN DRIVE POSITION) AND THEN MAY GO BACK INTO DRIVE. MANY OCCASION THE VEHICLE HAS GONE IN TO NEUTRAL AND BACK. ON ONE OCCASION AT AN INTERSECTION IT WOULD NOT RETURN AFTER SHIFTING BACK AND FORTH. I HAD TO TURN OF THE VEHICLE AND RESTART IT TO HAVE THE ABILITY TO DRIVE. THE DEALER FOUND THE MECHATRONICS UNIT FAILED AND SPENT 3+ WEEKS TO REPAIR. THE SAME DAY I RECEIVED THE VEHICLE MY WIFE AND I EXPERIENCED SIMILAR FAILURES TWICE. INCIDENTS LIKE THIS HAVE A CONCERN FOR ME ON THESE CARS. FOR ONE, WHEN STOPPING THESE CARS DOWNSHIFT TO AID IN THE BRAKING. CAR WAS IN PARK, ENGINE IDLING, CHILD EXITED CAR, I PUT FOOD ON BRAKE, SHIFTED INTO REVERSE, WHEREUPON THE CAR WENT INTO NEUTRAL MODE, AND THE LIT GEARS INDICATOR LIGHT STARTED BLINKING, WHILE THE GREEN DEPRESS BRAKE PEDAL LIGHT CAME ON, ENGINE RACED AND SUDDENLY RE-ENGAGED REVERSE, LURCHED BACKWARD ALMOST STRIKING PASSING CAR. PURCHASED A 2009 VW JETTA SPORTSWAGON TDI ON 5/31/09. ON AUGUST 4TH, THE CAR WAS TAKEN IN FOR A 90-INSPECTION. PRIOR TO THIS, I EXPERIENCED THE PANEL LIGHTS FLASHING AND WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE, THE CAR DID NOTHING AND APPEARED TO BE IN NEUTRAL. I STATED THIS TO THE VW SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE. WE WERE GIVEN THE CAR BACK ON AUGUST 6TH, STATING THAT THERE WAS A FAULTY HARNESS CONNECTOR AND A WIRE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. BETWEEN AUGUST 6TH AND AUGUST 13TH, I EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE ACCELERATION APPROXIMATELY 5 TIMES IN THE SPACE OF THREE DAYS. ON AUGUST 14TH I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE SAME VW DEALER THAT PERFORMED THE 1ST REPAIR. WHEN TELLING THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE WHAT OCCURRED, THE REPAIR SHOP COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND INFERRED THAT PERHAPS MY DRIVING WAS AT FAULT. ON 8/20, THE VW DEALER CALLED AND SAID THAT THEY HAD SPOKEN TO A VW FACTORY REP AND THAT THERE WAS A FAULTY TEMPERATURE CONTROL PROBLEM. ON TUESDAY, 8/25, THE VW DEALER CALLED AND TOLD US THE CAR WAS READY TO BE PICKED UP. I PICKED THE CAR UP THAT EVENING (8/25) AND THE REPAIR NOTICE STATED THAT THE SENSOR WAS REPLACED. WHEN DRIVING TO WORK ON WEDNESDAY, 8/26, I EXPERIENCED LURCHING, SEIZING AND NON-ACCELERATION OF THE TRANSMISSION APPROXIMATELY 4 TIMES. VW OF AMERICA HAS BEEN INCLUDED "IN THE LOOP" FROM THE BEGINNING (CASE # 90204213). ON THURSDAY, 8/27, THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A DIFFERENT VW DEALER, HOWEVER, WITH THE SAME BUSINESS NAME (DAVID MAUS). ON AT LEAST TWO OCCASIONS WHILE PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC THE CAR HAS INTERMITTENTLY LOST ALL POWER FOR A FEW SECONDS ALMOST RESULTING IN CERTAIN PERSONAL INJURY ACCIDENTS. THIS WAS DUE TO THE FACT THAT AFTER STARTING THE CAR I TOOK A PHONE CALL BEFORE ENTERING TRAFFIC. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A TEMPERATURE/TIME RELATED PROBLEM AS THE TIME I WAS ON THE PHONE WOULD ABOUT EQUAL THE TIME THAT WHEN I NORMALLY WOULD HAVE LEFT THE LOT THE CAR WOULD HAVE HAD THE HICCUP/STUTTER. EVERY TIME WE HAD THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE WE COMPLAINED OF THE "JERK" OR "SLAM". THEN, IN DEC 2009 WE RECEIVED A WARRANTY EXTENSION FOR THE DSG TRANNY FROM 60,000 MILES TO 100,000. THIS OBVIOUSLY SHOWED THERE WERE KNOWN PROBLEMS. AT ALL OF IT'S SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE APPOINTMENTS, I WOULD MENTION THE JERKINESS. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THERE WAS NO PROBLEMS SINCE THEY NEVER FELT IT SHIFT FUNNY WHEN THEY DROVE IT. IT WASN'T EVEN UNTIL 43,000 DID ANYONE RIDE IN THE CAR WITH ME TO SEE! NOT ONCE DID THEY HOOK THE CAR TO A COMPUTER TO RUN FOR CODES OR FAULTS. I DID NOT HAVE A CHECK ENGINE FAULT CODE EITHER. WE HAD THE TRANNY SERVICED PER THE VW MANUAL AT A LITTLE OVER 40,000 MILES AND THAT DID NOT HELP THE CAR. NOW, THE CAR TENDS TO DOWNSHIFT WHILE COMPLETELY STOPPED, STILL SLAMS/JERKS INTO GEAR, ROCKS BACK AND FORTH WHEN YOU PUT IT IN PARK AND ROLLS BACKWARDS SEVERAL FEET WHEN YOU PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE FROM REVERSE (IN OUR SLOPED DRIVEWAY.) THIS NEVER HAPPENED IN THE PAST, BUT NOW YOU HAVE TO "POWER" BRAKE THE CAR TO ENSURE YOU DON'T ROLL BACK AND HIT THE OTHERS IN OUR DRIVEWAY. IN THE MEANTIME, CAR HAS SLOWED DOWN QUITE A BIT IN A BUSY HIGHWAY DURING RUSH HOUR MAKING FOR A SAFETY HAZARD FOR ME AND OTHER MOTORISTS. THIS HAS HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 7-8 TIMES SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR (1 MONTH, 2200 MILES). *TR
I WAS DRIVING HOME IN RUSH HOUR AFTER WORK ON A FOUR-LANE ROAD, IN A HEAVY RAIN STORM. AT MILE 1,565, MY CAR LOST POWER, THE P R N D S TRANSMISSION OPTIONS WERE BLINKING, THE FOOT BREAK ICON CAME ON, AND WHEN I PUSHED ON THE GAS, MY RMPS INCREASED, BUT NO POWER. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY MANEUVER THE CAR OUT OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, PULL OVER ON THE SHOULDER, AND SAT THERE WONDERING WHAT JUST HAPPENED. BEING THAT THE CAR WAS NEW, I DID NOT KNOW WHAT HAD HAPPENED, THERE WAS NO SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT COME ON. I PUT THE CAR INTO PARK, SAT THERE FOR A BIT, AND THEN PUT IT BACK INTO DRIVE. ABOUT 3 MILES LATER, THE TRANSMISSION OPTIONS BLINKED AGAIN. ONCE I ARRIVED HOME, I CALLED THE VW DEALERS SERVICE DEPT. WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR AND TALKED WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER. HE NEVER SAW ANYTHING LIKE THIS, TOLD ME NOT TO DRIVE IT TO THE DEALER (I AM 100+ MILES FROM THE DEALER), TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THEM. I AM VERY UNSATISFIED WITH VW, JETTA, AND MY CAR. I DO NOT FEEL LIKE MY CAR IS SAFE, RELIABLE, OR TRUSTWORTHY. NOW, BECAUSE OF THE INSTANCES THAT OCCURRED, I WILL ALWAYS BE PARANOID WITH MY CAR, WORRYING IF I WILL BE ABLE TO SAFELY GET TO AND FRO THE PLACES I NEED TO BE. I RECENTLY WAS ON THE INTERSTATE WITH AN INCONSIDERATE TRACTOR TRAILER BEHIND ME NOT GIVING ME A REASONABLE DISTANCE BETWEEN ME AND HIS OVERSIZED VEHICLE. I WAS NOT ABLE TO CHANGE LANES FOR OTHER CARS WERE IN THE ADJACENT LANE. FEAR CAME OVER ME AS I KNOW I WOULD BE IN A SEVERE ACCIDENT IF THE TRANSMISSION DECIDED TO FAIL AGAIN RESULTING IN A LOSS OF POWER. THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN NO WAY FOR THE OVERSIZED TRACTOR TRAILER BEHIND ME TO STOP IN TIME WITHOUT CAUSING AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE THE CAR I WAS DRIVING LOST POWER. *TR
OUR 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA TDI STOPPED AND WOULD NOT MOVE. FORTUNATELY WE WERE NOT IN AN INTERSECTION THE FIRST TIME. THE SECOND TIME THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS AROUND WHEN THE CAR STOPPED. ALL OF THE GEARS WERE LIGHTING UP. THERE WAS NO WARNING. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE INPUT SPEED SENSOR AND THE FLUID TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND WE FORTUNATELY HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM SINCE THAT TIME. *TR
2009 AND POSSIBLY 2010 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA WINDSHIELD WIPER SYSTEM STOPPED WORKING WHEN THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED AND ONLY RESTARTED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS RELEASED. UPDATED 02-26-2010. *BF UPDATED IVOQ 06/01/10 VEHICLE TAKEN TO DEALER 4 TIMES FOR CORRECTIVE ACTION AND SYSTEM IS NOT REPAIRED. DEALER TOLD ME THAT VW ENGINEERING STATED THAT THIS IS PROPER OPERATION OF THE SYSTEM AND NO REPAIRS ARE NEEDED. DEALERS EMPLOYEES ARE AWARE OF THE SAFETY HAZARD ASSOCIATED WITH LACK OF PROPER OPERATION AND STATE THAT THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM AND THAT IT IS NOT IN PROPER WORKING ORDER. *TR
HEAD LIGHTS ARE ON, BUT THE REST OF THE LIGHTS ARE NOT. ALREADY WENT DOWN THE ROAD (4) TIMES WITH OUT MY LIGHTS ON. *TR
I BOUGHT A NEW 2009 VW JETTA TDI SPORTWAGEN WITH THE DSG TRANSMISSION AND AT 1000 MILES EXACTLY, THE TRANSMISSION WENT INTO NEUTRAL, ALL THE LIGHTS BLINKED ON THE MFI, AND THE CAR COASTED TO A STOP. I PUT IT IN PARK AND TURNED THE IGNITION OFF. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND WENT ON MY WAY. AT EXACTLY 1724 MILES, THIS HAPPENED AGAIN. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALER AT 2361 MILES AND THEY ARE REPORTING THAT THEY CAN FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION IN MY 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA TDI SLIPS INTO NEUTRAL WITH NO WARNING. THE TRANSMISSION REMAINS IN NEUTRAL UNTIL YOU LIFT YOUR FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR. ONLY THEN WILL IT GO BACK INTO GEAR. THE HAS OCCURRED 5 TIMES IN THE 2.5 MONTHS I'VE OWN THE CAR. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL VW DEALER TO EXPLAIN THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE IS THERE NOW, HOPEFULLY BEING REPAIRED. *TR
