MY 2009 JETTA TDI SPORTWAGEN STALLED AT AN EXIT RAMP AND I ASSUMED I'D LET THE CLUTCH SLIP. WHEN I TURNED IT BACK ON, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER PARKING AND BEING AWAY FROM THE CAR FOR A COUPLE HOURS, THE LIGHT DIDN'T COME BACK ON. A WEEK OR SO LATER, THE SAME SEQUENCE OF EVENTS HAPPENED AND, SINCE THE CAR WAS DUE FOR ITS 30K SERVICE, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO BE CHECKED OUT. THEY HOOKED IT UP TO THE DIAGNOSTICS AND SAID IT NEEDED A SOFTWARE UPDATE, WHICH THEY DID. I PICKED THE CAR UP THE NEXT DAY, AND ON THE WAY HOME FROM THE DEALER, THE ENGINE DIED AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AGAIN. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER, WHERE THEY RAN THE DIAGNOSTICS ONCE MORE, AND SAID IT WAS A FAULTY SENSOR, SO THEY REPLACED THE SENSOR. THE NEXT DAY, THE LIGHT WAS BACK ON. THE THIRD TIME I TOOK THE CAR IN, I REALIZED THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE ENGINE STALLS, AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, AND TOLD THAT TO THE SERVICE ASSOCIATE. AFTER CHECKING THINGS OUT, THEY CALLED AND SAID THEY WOULD BE KEEPING IT FOR AT LEAST A WEEK, BECAUSE THEY'D FOUND METAL BITS IN THE FUEL SYSTEM, AND HAD ORDERED PARTS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE SYSTEM. *TR
ACCORDING TO VW THE HPFP WENT OUT. THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THE 2009 JETTAS. *TT
I CONTACTED VW MID-AUGUST 2011 BECAUSE MY CAR BROKE DOWN WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND THEN I COULD SMELL GAS. I HAD IT TOWED TO VW AND THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH A LEAK IN THE FUEL RAIL. ALL FOUR FUEL INJECTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED, AS WELL AS THE GASKETS, FUEL RAIL, AND SPARK PLUGS. THIS REPAIR COST ME APPROXIMATELY $1,100.00. I HAVE ENCLOSED A COPY OF MY BILL SHOWING THE REPAIRS DONE AND TOTAL COST OF REPAIRS. WHEN I CONTACTED VW IN MID-AUGUST I WAS INFORMED BY THEM THAT THERE ARE NO PROBLEMS WITH THE JETTA FUEL INJECTORS AND THAT IT IS NOT THEIR FAULT THAT I HAVE THE A LEMON OF THE BUNCH. VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS WITH ALL VW PERSONAL I HAVE SPOKEN WITH. I NOW ENCLOSE THE RECENT ARTICLES ABOUT THE FUEL INJECTOR PROBLEMS WITH THE VW VEHICLES. FOR SOME REASON THIS RECALL ONLY INCLUDES THE DIESEL ENGINES-WHICH CLEARLY SHOULD NOT BE THE CASE. I AM REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT FOR THIS REPAIR AS IT IS RELATED TO THE SAME PROBLEMS VW IS HAVING WITH THE DIESEL-ENGINES PER THE ENCLOSED VW ARTICLE ON RECALLS. THIS VEHICLE SHOULD ALSO BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *KB
ENGINE DIES WHILE AT SPEED, ESPECIALLY WHEN MAKING A SHARP TURN AT INTERSECTION. HAS OCCURRED ROUGHLY 6 TIMES IN 7000 MILES. ENGINE ALSO ROUTINELY "HICCUPS" OR MOMENTARILY DIES AT ABOUT 1800 RPM UNDER LIGHT LOAD. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. *TR
WE HAVE HAD THIS CAR FOR LESS THAN TWO MONTHS. THE DAY BEFORE WE TRAVELED ABOUT 45 MINUTES AWAY AND USED THE HIGHWAY. THE CAR WAS FINE. THE NEXT DAY, WHEN TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 70MPH OUR 2009 JETTA SPORTWAGEN TDI SUDDENLY LOST POWER ABOUT 30 TO 40 MINUTES INTO THE TRIP. THE GAS PEDAL DID NOT RESPOND TO BEING PRESSED. OUR VEHICLE WAS SLOWING DOWN. IT WAS LIKE THE CAR DIED AND WE WERE COASTING. FIVE TO TEN SECONDS LATER IT WAS LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED. THE CAR RESUMED POWER. IT HAS NOT HAPPENED AGAIN. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. *TR
MY 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA TDI (AUTOMATIC) HAS STALLED TWICE WHILE LEAVING MY PARKING LOT AT WORK. I HAVE TO GO UP A SMALL HILL TO EXIT THE PARKING LOT. WHEN I CREST THE HILL THE ENGINE STALLS. I MAKE EFFORTS TO KEEP MY FOOT ON THE GAS WHEN I CREST THE HILL AND THE PROBLEM HASN'T HAPPENED SINCE. I CAN'T DO THIS IF CARS ARE COMING. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA TDI. WHILE STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE FORWARD BUT THE ENGINE STALLED AND HE WAS UNABLE TO MOVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WHICH CONFIRMED THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP HAD FAILED; THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 37,500 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 27,450.
SUNROOF DRAINAGE TUBES BECAME UNGLUED FROM THE DRAINING NIPPLES THAT ATTACH TO THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF ASSEMBLY CAUSING A LARGE WATER LEAKS EVERY TIME IT RAINED. THE A, B, C, AND D INTERIOR PILLARS AND HEADLINER BECAME SOAKED AS DID THE INTERIOR CARPETS AND OTHER COMPONENTS INCLUDING THE FUSE PANEL BOX AND CENTRAL ELECTRONICS CONTROL MODULE (CECM) BEHIND THE DRIVER'S SIDE DASH CAUSING INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL SHORTS AND DRIVABILITY ISSUES. THIS IS A REAL SAFETY HAZARD THAT HAS AFFLICTED MANY VW SEDANS WITH THE STANDARD GLASS SUNROOF AND WAGONS EQUIPPED WITH THE OPTIONAL PANORAMIC GLASS SUNROOF. EVIDENCE OF OTHER FAILURES OF THESE COMPONENTS HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED ON MANY VW ADVOCATE FORUMS BUT NO VW TSB OR RECALL CAMPAIGNS HAVE BEEN ISSUED TO DATE TO ADDRESS THIS DEFECT. THE REPAIR IS VERY COSTLY (4-5 HOURS OF LABOR PLUS PARTS). A CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT IS CURRENTLY UNDERWAY FOR THIS SAME DEFECT FOR MANY VOLKSWAGEN CARS UP TO 2009 BUT THE SAME DEFECT PERSIST IN 2009 AND NEWER JETTA SEDANS AND SPORTWAGENS WITH SUNROOFS. I URGE THE NTSA TO INVESTIGATE THIS SAFETY HAZARD ON AFFECTED VW VEHICLES FROM 2009-2012. *TR
WHILE THE CAR IS IN THE "DRIVE" POSITION I CAN TURN OFF THE CAR AND TAKE THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. THIS ALLOWS THE CAR TO ROLL FREELY IF ON ANY SORT OF A SLOPE. *TR
2009 VW DIESEL STALLING ISSUES WHEN DRIVING THE CAR.*TR
AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT WENT ON YESTERDAY. I PLAN TO HAVE IT REPAIRED THIS WEEK. HOWEVER, THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THIS YEAR I HAVE SEEN THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT GO ON. THE TWO PREVIOUS TIMES WERE EACH REPAIRED, ON 16 JUNE 2010 AND 24 JUNE 2010. AT THE TIME OF EACH OF THOSE TWO PRIOR REPAIRS, I WAS INFORMED THAT A SENSOR HAD FAILED AND THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG WAS THUS DISABLED. THIS MEANS THAT A VITAL SAFETY COMPONENT FAILED TWICE THIS YEAR AND POSSIBLY A THIRD TIME. *TR
ON AUGUST 6, 2010, WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT ABOUT 65MPH, THE GLOW PLUG LIGHT ON MY 2009 DIESEL JETTA SPORTWAGON BEGAN TO FLASH. THE CAR LOST POWER AND I EXITED THE FREEWAY AND CAME TO A STOP. THE CAR STALLED AND COULD NOT BE RESTARTED. IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT IT. I WAS TOLD THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP HAD FAILED AND THAT THERE WERE METAL FILINGS IN IT AND THAT THESE FILLINGS HAD BEEN DISPERSED TO OTHER ASPECTS OF MY FUEL SYSTEM. IT WAS INITIALLY BLAMED ON FUEL CONTAMINATION, BUT FURTHER ANALYSIS OF THE FUEL DID NOT SHOW ANY SIGNIFICANT CONTAMINATION. THE EXPENSIVE REPAIR WAS FINALLY PAID BY THE VW WARRANTY. THIS ENTIRE INCIDENT CAN BE MUCH MORE EXTENSIVELY DOCUMENTED IF THIS IS NEEDED. *TR
REAR BRAKE PADS HAVE WORN OUT AT ONLY 20K, CONSUMERS THINK THIS CAN BE A CALIPER PROBLEM OF EMERGENCY BRAKE CABLE PROBLEM THAT VW NEEDS TO ADDRESS AND / OR RECALL! *TR
MY 2009 JETTA SPORTSWAGON TDI HAS STALLED SEVERAL OCCASIONS ROUNDING CORNERS AS I DOWNSHIFT FROM A HIGHER GEAR TO A LOWER GEAR. I GENERALLY RUN THE VEHICLE AROUND 1700-1800 RPM AND AS I MAKE THE TURN AROUND THE CORNER TO SLOW DOWN I AM IN THE PROCESS OF DOWNSHIFTING AND THE CAR STALLS OUT WHILE THE CLUTCH IS ENGAGED. THIS HAS HAPPENED RANDOMLY 4 TIMES TO ME. THE FIRST TIME I THOUGHT I MIGHT HAVE ACCIDENTALLY SHIFT INTO A HIGHER GEAR AND STALLED THE ENGINE, BUT SINCE IT HAS REPEATEDLY HAPPENED AND SINCE I HAVE OWNED A STANDARD TRANSMISSION VEHICLE SINCE 1986, AND HAVE BEEN DRIVING STANDARD VEHICLES SINCE 1980 I HAVE TO QUESTION THAT IT IS SOMETHING ELSE BESIDES MY ABILITY TO DRIVE. *TR
ON JULY 25, 2010, WHILE WE WERE OUT OF TOWN, THE 2009 VW JETTA INCURRED A MAJOR ENGINE MALFUNCTION. THE MECHANIC IN THE LOCAL AREA DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS CONTAMINATED FUEL BUT COULD NOT MAKE THE REPAIR. THE CAR WAS TOWED BACK TO CHARLOTTE WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILED AND IN ITS FAILURE DAMAGED BEYOND REPAIR THE FUEL INJECTORS. THE MECHANIC IN CHARLOTTE PERFORMED EXTENSIVE REPAIRS, INCLUDING THE FUEL PUMP AND INJECTORS. THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO ME ON SEPTEMBER SEPTEMBER 2, 2010. ON SEPTEMBER 7, 2010, ON ANOTHER OUT-OF-TOWN TRIP, THE ENGINE MALFUNCTIONED AGAIN, AND WITH THE EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS AS OCCURRED DURING THE FIRST INCIDENT. THE CAR WILL BE TOWED BACK TO CHARLOTTE, TO CAROLINA VW, A VW DEALER. THE MECHANIC WHO PERFORMED THE REPAIRS BELIEVE THAT THE MECHANICAL FAILURE IS ROOTED IN A DESIGN FLAW WITH THE MECHANICAL PUMP. *TR
LOSS OF POWER, CAR GOES INTO LIMP MODE WHEN THIS HAPPENS IT IS A FUEL SYSTEM FAILURE THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP IT SEND METAL SHAVINGS THROUGHOUT THE FUEL SYSTEM REPLACE THE FUEL SYSTEM I HAVE DONE THIS ONCE AND NOW IT HAS FAILED THE 2 TIME ALL AT MY EXPENSE, CAR IS CURRENTLY NOT RUNNING CAN'T AFFORD ANOTHER REPAIR A REAL SAFETY ISSUE, NO WARNING WHEN THE VEHICLE GOES INTO POWER REDUCTION. *TR

WHILE DRIVING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 65 MPH THE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SLOW DOWN. THE SECOND FAILURE OCCURRED WHEN HE MERGED INTO THE INTERSECTION AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE FAILURE CODE WAS ASSOCIATED WITH THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP WHICH CONTAMINATED THE FUEL SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER OUT OF THE AREA FOR FURTHER EXAMINATION. THE MANUFACTURER FILED REPORT 100295867. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 51,400.
JETTA TDI SEDAN 24000 MILES. ENGINE STALLED AT THE ROAD WITH ENGINE FAULT MESSAGE FROM MFD. GLOW PLUG STARTED BLINKING. VW DEALER SAID IT'S DUE TO CONTAMINATED FUEL. BUT ALL OVER THE US PEOPLE ARE FACING THIS ISSUE. VW IS NOT YET RECOGNIZING THIS ISSUE. LOOKS LIKE A MAJOR FAILURE IN THEIR FUEL PUMP. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE, THE GLOW PLUG LIGHT STARTED TO FLASH. I PULLED OVER AND CHECKED THE OWNER'S MANUAL. THE MANUAL SAID TO BRING THE CAR A DEALER FOR SERVICE. I CONTACTED MY DEALER WHO SAID TO BRING IT RIGHT IN. STARTED DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AT 50MPH AND APPROXIMATELY 5 MILES LATER THE CAR LOST ALL POWER AND SHUT DOWN. THE VACUUM ASSIST FOR THE BRAKES AND THE ELECRO-MECHANICAL STEERING SYSTEM WERE UNDER REDUCED LEVELS OF POWER. I MERGED TO THE FAR RIGHT AND OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AS QUICKLY AND SAFELY AS POSSIBLE. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALER 45 MINUTES LATER. THAT EVENING, I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WERE METAL CHIPS IN THE FUEL FILTER HOUSING. I VIEWED THESE CHIPS MYSELF. THE TECHNICIAN NOTED THAT THE FUEL REMOVED FROM THE SYSTEM WAS IN FACT DIESEL, NOT GASOLINE. HE ALSO INDICATED THAT THE FUEL DID NOT APPEAR TO BE CONTAMINATED. I RESEARCHED ON THE WEB THAT THE VW TDI HAS BEEN SUFFERING UNEXPECTED HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURES. WHEN THE HPFP FAILS, IS SENDS METAL THROUGH THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM. TODAY I RECEIVED A REPAIR ESTIMATE OF $10,260. VWOF A IS STILL DETERMINING IF THIS IS AN ITEM TO BE COVERED UNDER THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. *TR
I OWN A 2009 JETTA TDI WITH A DSG TRANSMISSION. I FEEL LIKE I AM GOING TO GET HIT WHEN I START FROM A STOP. THE TRANSMISSION JUMPS AND HESITATES. IT HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER WITH OUT BEING FIXED. IT IS TERRIFYING TO DRIVE A CAR THAT MAY OR MY NOT ACCELERATE WHICH ALSO JUMPS IN AND OUT OF GEAR! *TR
IN JULY, 2009 I PURCHASED A 2009 VW JETTA TDI SPORTSWAGEN. THE CAR IS A TWO LITER DIESEL. AT 9900 MILES THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILED AND LEFT MY WIFE STRANDED IN TRAFFIC. VW OF AMERICA REPLACED THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM, FROM THE FUEL TANK TO THE FUEL INJECTORS. THE REPAIR RETAILS FOR APPROXIMATELY $10,000. I HAVE READ MANY COMPLAINTS ON THE VARIOUS WEBSITES ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND IT APPEARS TO BE A RECURRING ISSUE. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE GOING FORWARD AS MY WIFE DRIVES OUR GRANDCHILDREN TO SCHOOL IN THE CAR DAILY. EVERY TIME WE USE THE CAR, WE PRAY IT WILL NOT FAIL AGAIN. IT IS VERY STRESSFUL. VW WAS VERY COOPERATIVE AND EVEN GAVE US A LOANER VEHICLE. IN MY OPINION, VW SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO MAKE A RECALL OF ALL 2009 TDI DIESELS FOR AT LEAST A CHECK OF THE FUEL FILTER TO SEE IF IT HAS SOME METAL PARTICLES IN IT, WHICH IS AN INDICATION OF THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP DESTROYING ITSELF. THE DEAL TOLD ME OURS WAS FULL OF METAL SHAVINGS. EVEN THOUGH VW WAS COOPERATIVE IN FIXING THE PROBLEM, THEY GAVE ME NO ASSURANCE IT WOULDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN, IN FACT THEY WERE VERY VAGUE ABOUT IT. THEY INSISTED ON KEEPING ALL THE REPLACED PARTS SO THE HOME OFFICE COULD EVALUATE WHAT WENT WRONG. THIS INDICATES TO ME THEY KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON AND ARE BEING VERY SLY ABOUT JUMPING INTO A RECALL. THEY SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO AT LEAST INFORM OWNERS OF THE DANGER LURKING BECAUSE THE POTENTIAL FOR A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT IS CLEARLY THERE. MY WIFE WAS LUCKY THAT SHE WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE ROADWAY WITHOUT INJURY. THE CAR HAS ANOTHER ISSUE WHICH CAN BE BEST DESCRIBED AS A "BOGGING" WHEN ACCELERATING. THE BOGGING HAPPENS WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE, LIKE WHEN MAKING A LEFT TURN IN FRONT OF TRAFFIC. IT DOESN'T HAPPEN ALL THE TIME. I HAVE ALSO READ MANY COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS ISSUE. THE DEALER'S RESPONSE WAS THAT THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF THIS, WHICH I DO NOT BELIEVE AND THAT THEY COULD NOT MAKE IT RECUR WHEN THEY DROVE THE CAR-ANOTHER SAFETY ISSUE! *TR
I OWN A 2009 VW JETTA TDI WITH 22,000 MILES ON IT. IN THE MIDDLE OF MAY THE ENGINE EMISSIONS WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE DEALER WHO SERVICES THE CAR. I TOOK IT IN AND WAS TOLD THE GAS CAP MAY HAVE BEEN MOUNTED IMPROPERLY. THE LIGHT WAS OFF AT THAT POINT THE CAR WAS PICKED UP. A WEEK OR SO LATER THE SAME LIGHT CAME ON, THEN WENT OFF AND WAS SPORADIC FOR A WHILE. AFTER A FEW WEEKS OF THIS I TOOK THE CAR IN AGAIN (MID JUNE). AFTER BEING IN THE SHOP NOW FOR SIX WEEKS THE DEALER HAS INFORMED ME THAT THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM AND THAT THE FUEL PUMP HAS FAILED.THEY SAY THERE IS RUST AND OTHER CONTAMINATION IN IT AND THERE MUST HAVE BEEN WATER IN THE SYSTEM. VW HAS REFUSED TO COVER IT UNDER THE WARRANTY. THE COST OF REPLACING THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM WILL BE $8,000-$10,000. HAVING RESEARCHED THE ISSUE ONLINE I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS AN OFTEN REPORTED OCCURRENCE AND A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE 2009 JETTA TDIS. IT APPEARS THAT VW IS COVERING THE PROBLEM IN MANY CASES BUT NOT IN OTHERS. VW SHOULD BE MORE RESPONSIBLE AND ADMIT THIS IS A PROBLEM AND COVER THE REPLACEMENT OF THE SYSTEMS. MY REAR BRAKES STARTED MAKING A HORRIBLE NOISE WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES ABOUT ONE MONTH AGO AROUND 5/1/2010. FROM THIS POINT ON, THE CAR'S BRAKING DISTANCE INCREASED BY ABOUT 50% WITH ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING TO ME. I BOUGHT THIS CAR BRAND NEW IN JANUARY OF 2009 AND IT ONLY HAS 16,000 MILES ON IT. MY CAR HAS BEEN SERVICED ON SCHEDULE FOR 500 MILE COURTESY INSPECTION, 5000 MILE SERVICE, 10000 MILE SERVICE AND 15000 MILE SERVICE. I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR VA STATE INSPECTION ON 6/4/2010. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT MY REAR BRAKE PADS WERE COMPLETELY WORN THROUGH AND THAT THEY WERE BRAKING WITH METAL ON METAL CONTACT. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FRONT BRAKES WERE BASICALLY IN "NEW" CONDITION. HE ALSO STATED THAT THE LEFT REAR BRAKE WAS IN WORSE SHAPE THAN THE RIGHT REAR BRAKE. THIS CAR ONLY HAS 16668 MILE ON IT. IT HAS BEEN SERVICED AS INSTRUCTED IN THE OWNERS MANUAL AND IT HAS NEVER BEEN RACED OR USED IN ANY WAY OUT OF THE NORMAL. THE VW DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED WHAT THE MECHANIC AT THE INSPECTION STATION TOLD ME. HE SAID THAT THE REAR BRAKES WERE GONE AND THAT THERE WAS NO BRAKE PAD LEFT AT ALL AND THE CAR WAS STOPPING WITH METAL ON METAL CONTACT. HE SAID THAT THE PADS AND ROTORS WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. I TOLD HIM THAT I USED TO WORK ON MY OLD CAR AND THAT THIS WAS NOT NORMAL. HE STATED HE HAS HAD A NUMBER OF VWS COME IN WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. HE ALSO STATED THAT THERE IS NO SENSOR IN THE REAR BRAKE PAD, THAT THE PADS WILL NOT BEGIN TO SQUEAL WHEN THEY ARE WORN DOWN OR PROVIDE ANY INDICATION WHATSOEVER THAT THEY HAVE FAILED OTHER THAN THE SOUND THEY MAKE ONCE THE METAL OF THE CALIPER IS HITTING THE METAL OF THE PADS. I DID SOME INITIAL RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A PRETTY SERIOUS PROBLEM FOR VW. EVERY MECHANIC I HAVE TALKED TO ABOUT MY CAR HAS SAID THAT VWS ARE DESIGNED FOR THE REAR BRAKES TO DO MOST OF THE WORK. IN APRIL 2010, THE CAR WOULD NOT START. IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE PROBLEM WAS IDENTIFIED AS A FAULTY FUEL PUMP, WHICH WAS REPLACED AT NO CHARGE TO US. IN JUNE 2010, WHILE MERGING ON TO THE INTERSTATE, THE "ENGINE FAULT" LIGHT FLASHED ON AND THE WARNING "BELL" STARTED CHIMING. THE CAR COULD NOT ACCELERATE BEYOND 50 MPH. MY VEHICLE DIDN'T START AFTER 12 DAYS OF SITTING, IT ALSO HAD A ROUGH START (NO START FOLLOWED BY DRIVER ASSISTED START) AFTER SITTING FOR ABOUT 9 HOURS. I BELIEVE THE ROUGH START WAS A RELATED TO THE NO START. DATE OF NO START: 12/29/10 LOCATION: PHILADELPHIA OFFSITE AIRPORT LOT MILEAGE: > 20,000 GOT MY 20K SERVICE TWO DAYS PRIOR TO PARKING IT ON DEC. 17. IT SNOWED 22" ON THE 19TH AND THEN THROUGHOUT THE REST OF THE DAYS IT WOULD THAW, FREEZE, RAIN ETC. IT RAINED APPROXIMATELY 3" DURING THAT TIME. GOT BACK DEC. 29TH AT NIGHT. THE ENGINE TRIED TO CRANK ONCE AND THEN DIDN'T DO MUCH AFTERWARD. HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER (VW OF LANGHORNE) AND THEY FOUND WATER IN THE CYLINDERS BY REMOVING THE GLOW PLUGS AND MANUALLY CRANKING THE ENGINE. AFTER A COUPLE OF DAYS MESSING WITH THE DEALER THEY FINALLY DRIED OUT THE ENGINE AND FOUND WATER IN THE INTERCOOLER LINES. RAN FINE UNTIL 2/1/10. DEALER HAD ME PAY FOR THEIR TIME BECAUSE "THE ONLY WAY THIS COULD HAPPEN IS IF I DROVE THROUGH A PUDDLE OR IF IT WAS IN A FLOOD". THEY ARE WRONG. THE PARKING LOT IS NOT VALET (I KEPT MY KEYS) AND THEY HAVE A SNOW REMOVAL SERVICE. SNOW WAS NOT PLOWED INTO OR ON TOP OF MY CAR. NO OTHER WATER DAMAGE WAS SEEN IN OR ON THE VEHICLE ANYWHERE ELSE. LEFT WORK AT 6:00PM AND DID NOT START. THE SEQUENCE: 1) CRANK BUT DIDN'T TURN OVER 2) GOT IT TO TURN OVER AND START ABOUT 1 MIN LATER, NO MESSAGE ON MFD 3) KEPT FOOT ON ACCELERATOR IN NEUTRAL AT ABOUT 1300 RPM FOR 30-60 SEC. 4) RAN FINE ON 30 MIN DRIVE HOME THIS IS AN UNSAFE CONDITION THAT COULD RESULT IN SIGNIFICANT PROBLEMS IF IT TAKES A LONG TIME TO GET A TOW IN THE WINTER. *TR
SHORTLY AFTER STARTING UP, THE CAR STALLED ABRUPTLY WHILE STILL IN DRIVEWAY. THERE WERE NO WARNING SIGNS (LOW POWER, ROUGH RUNNING, ETC), AND IT WAS UNABLE TO START AFTERWARD. THIS WAS DIAGNOSED AS A FAILURE OF THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF FUEL CONTAMINATION OR OTHER ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS THAT MAY HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE FAILURE. THE PUMP WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
CAR HAS STUTTERED WHEN ACCELERATING FROM STOP SINCE PURCHASING WITH 12 MILES. ON 12/21/2009, CAR LOST POWER AND STUTTERED AT SPEED ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. THE ROAD IMMEDIATELY CLIMBED A HILL. WITH ACCELERATOR TO THE FLOOR, THE CAR DROPPED TO UNDER 60 MPH AND I SHIFTED FROM 6TH TO 5TH. CAR STILL KEPT DECELERATING SO I SHIFTED TO 4TH. FORTUNE PROVIDED A REST AREA AS THE CAR GOT TO ABOUT 45 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE. AFTER PARKING, CAR STALLED WHILE IDLING. STARTING ENGINE WOULD ROUGHLY IDLE AT 1/2 OF THE IDLE RPM FOR ABOUT 5 SECONDS BEFORE STALLING. AFTER 4 TRIES, I LET THE CAR SIT FOR 10 MINUTES AND IT RESTARTED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THE CAR HAD DIESEL PURCHASED IN UPSTATE NY IN THE WINTER, PRESUMABLY A WINTER BLEND. THE INCIDENT HAPPENED IN VA IN 30+ DEGREE TEMPERATURES, SO PRESUMABLY GELLING OF THE FUEL WAS NOT THE PROBLEM. ADDITIONALLY, ON 12/17/2010, CAR STARTED BUT WOULD NOT REV ABOVE 1500 RPM EVEN WHILE OUT OF GEAR. WOULD NOT GO MORE THAN 10 MPH. I ASSUME IT IS THE FUEL SYSTEM BUT THE VW DEALER CLAIMS EVERYTHING IS FINE WITH THE CAR.

I HAVE A 2009 VW JETTA TDI. I WAS IN MY WORK PARKING LOT. STARTED THE VEHICLE, BACKED OUT DRIVING OUT OF THE PARKING LOT WHEN THE ENGINE STOPPED AND TURNED OFF. I COASTED THE VEHICLE INTO A PARKING SPOT. TURNED IT OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. NO LIGHTS CAME UP AND IT STARTED WITH NO PROBLEM. I ADVISED DEALERSHIP OF THE PROBLEM AND THEY CHECKED IT OUT AND SAID IT WAS OK, AND TO CALL IF IT OCCURRED AGAIN. IT HAS NOT. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH INTO A SLIGHT CURVE WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED IN A STRAIGHT POSITION AND WOULD NOT TURN TO THE RIGHT WITHOUT WARNING. THE DRIVER BEGAN TO EXERT AGGRESSIVE FORCE TO THE STEERING WHEEL AND SUDDENLY, THE STEERING WHEEL UNLOCKED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE CONTACT HAD CONCERN OF THE POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD. THE VIN WAS REJECTED FROM THE SYSTEM. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,000. DRIVING ON BUSY STREET WHEN I HEARD A CHIME & A PIGTAIL SHAPED LIGHT STARTED FLASHING ON DASHBOARD. VEHICLE STALLED IN MIDDLE OF STREET. VW SENT A TOW TRUCK & TOWED VEHICLE TO NEAREST DEALER. I WAS TOLD THE FUEL PUMP HAD COME APART & METAL FLAKES MAY BE THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM. VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. *TR

SHE ATTEMPTED TO ACCESS THE VEHICLE WITH THE KEY FOB AND MANUALLY. THE KEY FAILED TO UNLOCK THE DOOR. SHE HAD TO BREAK THE PASSENGER WINDOW TO OPEN THE DOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 12,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
