THE REAR SEAT BELTS ON THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE NO LONGER FUNCTION. THEY WILL NOT RETRACT OR EXTEND AND ARE LOCKED UP. THEY ARE NOW UNUSABLE. *TR
ALTERNATOR FAILED WITHOUT WARNING ON 2009 JETTA WITH 2.5 LITER ENGINE. VEHICLE HAD ABOUT 64,000 MILES ON IT AT TIME OF ALTERNATOR FAILURE. *TR
THE DEALERSHIP STATED IT WAS A WARPED DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL. THEY REPLACED IT AND IT IS STILL KNOCKING. A SECOND DEALERSHIP SAID THAT IT IS STILL KNOCKING BECAUSE THE DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL IS BAD. IT CAUSES THE CLUTCH TO SHIFT HARD AND ACCELERATION TO BE AN ISSUE. I DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAYS. *TR
THE ABS AND PARKING BRAKE LIGHT BEGAN TO FLASH AND BEEP CONSTANTLY AND THE VEHICLE LOST CONTROL FOR A SMALL AMOUNT OF TIME CAUSING ME TO SWERVE A LITTLE BIT BUT I REGAINED CONTROL. I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND IT CONTINUES TO FLASH AND BEEP. THIS IS SAID TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE WITHIN THE 09 MODELS (THE ABS PUMP AND MODULE FAILURE), BUT THE COMPANY HAS YET TO ISSUE A RECALL TO COVER THE EXPENSE OF REPLACEMENT. IT IS SAID THAT, THE ABS PUMP AND MODULE FAILURE CAN CAUSE THE VEHICLE'S BRAKES TO LOCK UP AND NOT ALLOW MOVEMENT IN CLOSE SITUATIONS WHICH CAN RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. *TR

HIGH-PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE (HPFP) WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 60MPH MISFIRING AND STALLING GLOW PLUG LIGHT IS FLASHING AND CHECK ENGINE. *TR
HIGH-PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE (HPFP) WHILE I WAS DRIVING 60MPH ON HIGHWAY HAS GLOW PLUG LIGHT FLASHING AND CHECK LIGHT, CAR IS MISFIRING AND STALLING. *TR
ICE COLLECTED IN DOOR JAM, REDUCING OPERATION OF DRIVER DOOR. I HAD BEEN DRIVING IN COLD WEATHER. UPON ARRIVAL AT MY DESTINATION, MY DRIVERS DOOR WAS DIFFICULT TO OPEN. WHEN FORCED OPEN I HEARD A LOUD CRUNCHING NOISE. ONCE I GOT OUT OF THE CAR, THE BOTTOM OF MY DOOR WAS DAMAGED AND A LARGE CHUNK OF ICE WAS FOUND IN THE FORWARD PART OF THE DOOR JAM. A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF ICE HAD ACCUMULATED. WITH THE CURRENT WEATHER PATTERN, THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING DAILY SINCE THE FIRST INCIDENT. NOW THE DOOR IS DAMAGED ENOUGH IT WILL NO LONGER OPEN PROPERLY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE GEARS WERE DIFFICULT TO SHIFT AND THE VEHICLE JERKED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V333000 (POWER TRAIN). THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000.
ABS CONTROL MODULE FAILURE IS VERY COMMON FOR MK5 JETTA'S AND GOLF'S. MINE FAILED APPROACHING A RED LIGHT IN A FOOT OF SNOW, RESULTING IN A LOSS OF THE TRACTION CONTROL, ABS AND STABILITY CONTROL. VOLKSWAGEN NEEDS TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND ISSUE A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN BEFORE THERE IS A LOSS OF LIFE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE HESITATED AND STALLED. THE CONTACT HAD TO PULL OVER AND PARK THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE AND GLOW PLUG WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT, A CERTIFIED MECHANIC, DIAGNOSED THAT THE WATER FROM THE AIR INTAKE COOLER NEEDED TO BE DRAINED.THE EXCESS WATER WAS REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO STATED THAT, BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY, THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE A FREE REPAIR. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000.
AFTER BACKING UP OUT OF A DRIVE WAY IT WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF FIRST GEAR.AFTER PULLING OVER TO SIDE OF THE ROAD I TRIED TO SHIFT IT INTO REVERSE AND NOTHING HAPPENED THEN TRIED TO MANUALLY SHIFT IT INTO FORWARD GEARS AND THE SAME THING ONLY FIRST GEAR WOULD ENGAGE.THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH FOR WHICH GEAR YOU ARE IN WAS FLASHING AND UNTIL IT WAS SHUT OF THEN RESTARTED IT STARTED WORKING AGAIN.I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT IT WASN'T PART OF THE DRIVE TRAIN SO I WOULD HAVE TO FORK OVER 2500 DOLLARS TO REPLACE THE COMPUTER THAT WAS IN THE TRANSMISSION,THE MECHATRONIC THAT CONTROLS THE VALVE BODY AND CLUTCHES.THEY SAID THEY FOUND AN ISSUE WITH IT BUT DIDN'T SAY WHAT IT WAS.I CONTACTED VW AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD LOOK INTO IT,AFTER TWO DAYS THEY CALLED AND SAID THAT THERE WEREN'T ANY WARRANTY ISSUES FOR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT I HAD PURCHASED.NOW IF ITS IN THE TRANSMISSION WOULDN'T YOU THINK THAT IT IS A PART OF THE DRIVE TRAIN.THE TRANSMISSION WOULDN'T RUN WITH OUT IT.I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM ON LINE AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE ALLOT OF PROBLEMS WITH THIS TRANSMISSION DUE TO THE MECHATRONIC UNIT AND IT IS A SAFETY RECALL DUE TO ACCIDENTS CREATED BY IT.I CANNOT TRUST THIS CAR NOW AND WILL BE TRADING IT IN FOR A TOYOTA.I HAVE 500,000 MILES ON A ECHCO THAT STILL RUNS LIKE IT WAS NEW AND HAVE NEVER HAD TO TAKE IT IN FOR ANY PROBLEMS.I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THIS CAR FIXED BEFORE GETTING RID OF IT BECAUSE I WOULD FEEL GUILTY IF SOMEONE GOT HURT FROM THE PROBLEM THAT IS IN THE TRANSMISSION. *TR
MY VEHICLE WAS STUCK IN A SNOW DRIFT AT THE END OF MY ROAD. I DEACTIVATED MY ELECTRONIC SKID PROTECTION TO GET MY VEHICLE FREE FROM THE SNOW DRIFT. I SUCCESSFULLY MADE IT ONTO THE ROAD AND ONLY GOING 20MPN DUE TO ICY ROADS AND BAD WEATHER CONDITIONS. 1 TO 2 MILES DOWN FROM WHERE I WAS STUCK, MY ABS AND ESP LIGHT CAME ON AND I ALMOST LOST CONTROL BUT BECAUSE I WAS GOING SO SLOW, I WAS A BLE TO KEEP IT ON THE ROAD. I PULLED INTO THE CLOSEST GAS STATION TO INVESTIGATE AND MY REAR BRAKES WERE LOCKED UP AND WOULD NOT COME LOOSE. I THOUGHT THEY MAY AHVE BEEN FROZEN SO I CLEANED WHAT SNOW WAS ON THERE AND ACTUATED THE BRAKES SEVERAL TIMES, MOVING MY VEHICLE BACK AND FORTH TO BREAK THEM LOOSE. THIS DID NOT WORK SO I DROVE IT ABOUT 4 MILES TO THE CLOSEST VW DEALERSHIP, WHICH WAS VERY DIFFICULT DUE TO THE ICY ROADS AND MY REAR WHEELS LOCKED UP. THE VW TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THAT BECAUSE MY REAR WHEELS WERE STUCK IN THAT SNOW DRIFT AND MY FRONT TIRES WERE TRYING TO GET ME UNSTUCK, A CODE POPPED UP WHICH ACTIVATED MY REAR BRAKES. HE CLEARED THE CODE AND MY CAR WORKS PERFECTLY FINE. IF THIS "CODE" HAD TRIPPED 10 MINUTES LATER, I WOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY TRAVELING AT HIGHER SPEEDS ON VERY BAD ROAD CONDITIONS AND WOULD HAVE CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I DO NOT KNOW IF THE DEALERSHIP WAS TRUTHFUL AS TO WHAT THEY FOUND, IF IT WAS TRULY A CODE OR IF THEY WERE JUST FROZEN SHUT WHICH CREATED THE CODE. I JUST WANTED TO CREATE A COMPLAINT TO LOG THIS ISSUE IN CASE THIS HAPPENS AGAIN, I HAVE PROOF OF THE ISSUE AND COMPLAINT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON A 3 LANE ROAD MY VEHICLE LOST POWER AND SHOWED A WARNING MESSAGE OF "ENGINE FAULT". IT HAD ABOUT 50% POWER FOR APPROXIMATELY 30 SECONDS AND DIED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO VW DEALER AND THEY REPORT THAT IT WAS THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE WITH COMPLETE FUEL SYSTEM CONTAMINATION. *TR
THE LR BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS CONSISTENTLY SHOW EXCESSIVE WEAR. THERE ARE NO PROBLEMS WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE OR CALIPER NOTICED EACH TIME; HOWEVER, THE PADS AND ROTORS HAVE NEEDED REPLACEMENT THREE TIMES THIS YEAR AND ONLY THESE LEFT REAR HAVE SHOWN THE ISSUE. AT THE LAST OCCURRENCE BEFORE THIS SERVICE, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP WITHOUT THE BRAKE PEDAL BEING DEPRESSED AS FAR AS IT WAS ABLE TO GO AND EVEN THEN, THE ABILITY TO STOP WAS GREATLY DIMINISHED. PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT A LOUD SCRAPING NOISE WAS EVIDENT IN THE VEHICLE WHILE ROLLING EVEN WITHOUT THE BRAKE DEPRESSED AND MANY TIMES THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE HAD SMELLED LIKE SOMETHING WAS BURNING WHEN IT WAS PARKED DIRECTLY AFTER DRIVING. *TR
THE LR BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS CONSISTENTLY SHOW EXCESSIVE WEAR. THIS LAST OCCURRENCE THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP WITHOUT THE BRAKE PEDAL BEING DEPRESSED AS FAR AS IT WOULD GO, AND EVEN THEN THE ABILITY TO STOP WAS GREATLY DIMINISHED. PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT, A LOUD SCRAPING NOISE WAS EVIDENT IN THE VEHICLE WHILE ROLLING EVEN WITHOUT THE BRAKES BEING DEPRESSED AND MANY TIMES THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE SMELLED LIKE SOMETHING WAS BURNING WHEN IT WAS PARKED FOLLOWING IT BEING DRIVEN. THE TECHNICIAN LOOKED AT THE CAR AND STATED THAT THE CALIPER WAS FROZEN AND IT SEEMS THAT THIS ISSUE CONTINUALLY OCCURS WITH THIS CAR EVEN WITH A NEW CALIPER IT WILL CONTINUE TO HAVE THIS HAPPEN. *TR

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESTART AND WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE PUMP WAS DEFECTIVE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. MY JETTA LOST POWER FROM GOING 60MPH TO 35-40 AND AFTER A MIN IT SHUT DOWN ON HIGHWAY. I MANAGED TO PUSH IT ON A SHOULDER AND TRIED TO START AGAIN BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. I TOWED IT AWAY TO MECHANIC AND FOUND OUT THAT MY HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP SHATTERED AND RELEASED BUNCH OF TINY METAL PEACES IN TO THE FUEL FILTER AND ENGINE. MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT IT HAPPENED BECAUSE OF A DESIGN FLAW WITH THE PUMP THAT VW ADMITTED BUT HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING ABOUT THAT. SO I'M WONDERING WHAT IF A SEMI TRUCK CAME AT THE SAME TIME AND HIT ME WOULD THEY DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT THEN? *TR
2009 VW JETTA TDI UNABLE TO START THE VEHICLE IT WOULD CRANK BUT WILL NOT START. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE VW DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT THE FUEL PUMP IN THE FUEL TANK FAILED. THE PUMP IN THE TANK WAS REPLACED AND STILL WILL NOT START. THE DEALER THEN SAID THAT THE HPFP HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP ON THE ENGINE WAS BAD. THEY CHANGED THE PUMP AND STILL WILL NOT START. THE DEALER DOES NOT KNOW WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AT THIS TIME. THEY CALLED THEIR TECH LINE AWAITING AN ANSWER. I BELIEVE THIS IS A HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE ISSUE THAT IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND WELL TALKED ABOUT ON THE VW TDI FORUMS. IF THIS IS THE ISSUE THE PUMPS AND ANY REPAIRS SHOULD BE WARRANTIED FOR THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE AS LONG AS YOU OWN THE VEHICLE SINCE IT WAS PURCHASED NEW FROM THE DEALER. *TR
FUSE BOX FUSE SOCKET # F16 MELTED CAUSING RIGHT HEADLIGHT, TURN SIGNAL, CITY LIGHTS AND RIGHT MARKER LIGHT TO FAIL. SEEING NUMEROUS REPORTS OF THE SAME THING ON THE WEB. *TR
THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. DEALER FOUND FAILURE OF HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP AND METAL FRAGMENTS SUFFUSED THROUGHOUT THE FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM (FUEL LINES, TANK, ETC.). *TR
PASSENGER HEADLAMPS, PASSENGER FRONT TURN SIGNAL AND ALL REAR TURN SIGNALS STOPPED WORKING. THE RIGHT SIGNAL WAS NOT OPERATIONAL. TOOK CAR TO DEALER AND THEY INDICATED THE FUSE BOX AND THE 30 AMP FUSE ( F16) UNDER THE HOOD HAD OVERHEATED AND MELTED. THEY ARE CHARGING ME $580.00 TO REPLACE THE FUSE BOX AND FUSE. WHEN ASKED WAS THIS A DEFECT AND HOW CAN THIS SITUATION BE PREVENTED, THEY SAID IT HAS HAPPENED WITH OTHER CARS. IT IS SOMETHING THAT HAPPENS AND GOOD THING I BROUGHT IT IN BECAUSE OTHER MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE CAR COULD HAVE OCCURRED. MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS DEFECT IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD LEAD TO SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES. OTHER VOLKSWAGEN VEHICLES HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS SAME ISSUE (MELTED FUSE BOX AND FUSES) AND IT IS NOT CLEAR WHY VOLKSWAGEN ISN'T EXTENDING A RECALL TO ALL CARS THAT EXHIBIT THE SAME DEFECT. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE THE VEHICLE LOST ACCELERATION AND LOST POWER WHILE ON EXIT RAMP. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO NEAREST VW DEALER. INFORMED BY DEALER THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP HAD DISINTEGRATED AND SENT METAL THROUGHOUT FUEL SYSTEM AND THAT PARTS AND LABOR FOR REPAIR WOULD BE $6000-$8000. CALL TO VW FOR ASSISTANCE WAS REWARDED WITH THEIR OFFERING TO PAY FOR THE NEEDED REPAIRS. THERE WAS A LONG RECORDED HISTORY OF DEALER SERVICING AND PROOF OF ONLY DIESEL FUEL PURCHASES. NHTSA SHOULD INSURE THAT ALL TDI OWNERS BE NOTIFIED OF THIS PROBABILITY AND GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE REPAIRS/REPLACEMENTS DONE BY VW. *TR

THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT WHILE STATIONARY AT A RED LIGHT THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE GLOW PLUG AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE WAS DIAGNOSED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE NUMBER 1 DIESEL FUEL INJECTOR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND NO SOLUTION WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 156,591. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST ACCELERATION POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE DIESEL FUEL INJECTOR NUMBER ONE HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 156,000.
OUR CAR IS DRIVEN BY 2 DRIVERS- I AM 5 FEET TALL, MY HUSBAND IS 6'1". THE CAR SEAT GETS MOVED BACK AND FORTH A LOT AS WE BOTH DRIVE THE CAR DAILY. IN LATE NOVEMBER MY HUSBAND MOVED THE SEAT ALL THE WAY BACK AND IT MADE A CRACKING NOISE. WE LATER NOTICED THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ON. HE FOUND THE BROKEN WIRE UNDER THE SEAT AND REPAIRED IT, BUT THE LIGHT WAS STILL ON. A CALL TO THE DEALERSHIP REVEALED THEY KNEW ABOUT THE ISSUE AND THE FIX WAS TO "NOT MOVE THE SEAT SO MUCH". THE NEXT WEEK- BEFORE WE HAD A CHANCE TO TAKE THE CAR IN TO GET THE LIGHT CLEARED- THE CAR WAS INVOLVED IN A COLLISION. I REAR ENDED A CAR IN SLOW-AND-GO TRAFFIC WHEN SHE SWITCHED LANES IN FRONT OF ME WHILE I WAS ACCELERATING. $15,000 IN DAMAGE WAS DONE TO THE CAR BUT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT GO OFF. A WITNESS THAT STOPPED TO HELP HAD TO PRY THE DOOR OPEN TO GET ME OUT. THE FIGHTER FIGHTERS ALL REMARKED THAT THEY COULD NOT BELIEVE THE AIR BAGS DIDN'T GO OFF. NO AIRBAGS COULD HAVE BEEN A HUGE ISSUE IF THE ACCIDENT WAS WORSE. *TR
THE ELECTRICAL WIRE INSULATION OF THE PASSENGER SIDE HEAD LIGHT IS CRUMBLING AND FALLING OFF THE WIRES, I NOTICED WHEN I HAD TO CHANGE THE LIGHT BULB FOR THE SECOND TIME IN LESS THAN A MONTH. WHEN I OPENED THE ACCESS COVER TO REPLACE IT I SAW PIECES OF THE WIRE INSULATION ALL OVER INSIDE THE HEAD LIGHT COMPARTMENT. I'M VERY AFRAID AND SCARED THAT MY CAR WILL CATCH ON FIRE DUE TO THAT MANUFACTURER DEFICIENCY OF THE ELECTRICAL WIRE INSULATION. I SENT ONE MESSAGE TO VOLKSWAGEN ON AMERICA YESTERDAY BUT THEY HAVE NOT CONTACTED ME TO GET ADDITIONAL INFORMATION OR PROVIDE GUIDANCE. I TURNED CAR ON AND NO PROBLEM OR LIGHTS OR ERRORS WERE DISPLAYED. STARTED DRIVING AND CAR HAD VERY MINIMAL POWER AND WOULD SHIFT HIGH RPM. TOWED CAR TO VW DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID MY HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP HAD DETERIORATED AND SENT METAL SHAVINGS THROUGH MY FUEL PUMP SYSTEM. $6K TO FIX! A FAULTY PART AND VW SAYS IT'S MY RESPONSIBILITY TO FIX. I WISH VW WOULD HOLD TO THEIR CARS. *TR
2009 VW JETTA SPORTWAGEN TDI WAS BEING OPERATED NORMALLY. PARTIAL POWER LOSS WAS ENCOUNTERED AND DASH INDICATOR LIGHTS BEGAN TO ILLUMINATE. VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE TO NEARBY DESTINATION. WHEN DRIVER ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE AGAIN IT WOULD NOT START. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO LOCAL VW DEALERSHIP. DIAGNOSIS WAS COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP (HPFP). ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM WAS REPLACED ALONG WITH HPFP. MANUFACTURER PAID FOR ALL REPAIRS. FUEL WAS TESTED AND NO FOREIGN CONTAINMENTS WERE FOUND.

LOST PASSENGER HEADLAMP, PASSENGER FRONT TURN SIGNAL AND ALL REAR TURN SIGNALS. THE FAST SIGNAL ONLY INDICATED THAT THE RIGHT SIGNAL WAS NOT OPERATIONAL. WE HAD A NEAR REAR COLLISION WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN INTO TRAFFIC. UPON INVESTIGATION IT WAS FOUND THAT THE 30 AMP FUSE (NUMBER F16) IN THE UNDER HOOD FUSE BOX WAS OVERHEATED AND MELTED AS WELL AS THE FUSE SOCKET WAS MELTED. *TR
THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE STALLED WHILE TRAVELING DOWN THE ROADWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH. THE VEHICLE'S ELECTRICAL SYSTEM CONTINUED TO OPERATE (DRIVING LIGHTS, INTERIOR LIGHTS, POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES) DURING THIS TIME. THEY REPORTED THE FUSE BOX HAD STARTED TO MELT AND HAD TO BE REPLACED FOR $580. IT IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THIS SEEMS TO BE A FLAW THAT ONLINE RESEARCH HAS SHOWN. FUEL SYSTEM WAS FLUSHED AND REPLACED. AFTER THAT THE TOP OF THE ENGINE WAS LEAKING OIL. I TOOK IT BACK TO VW IN CLARKSVILLE TN. THEY SAID THEY FIXED IT. IT IS STILL LEAKING OIL JUST NOT AS BAD. THEN THE CAR WAS SMOKING AND BURNING/LEAKING OIL FROM THE TURBO. VW DID NOT WANT TO FIX THIS UNDER WARRANTY. WHAT I AM REPORTING IS A COMPLAINT / CONCERN ABOUT A MANUFACTURER (VOLKSWAGEN) DENYING A CLAIM I HAVE PRESENTED TO THEM FOR REPAIR / REPLACEMENT OF A REAR SAFETY BELT. I RECENTLY PURCHASED THE VW JETTA SPORTWAGEN AND BROUGHT IT IMMEDIATELY TO A VW FRANCHISE DEALER FOR REPAIRS TO THE SEATBELT (THE CAR IS 4 YEARS OLD, SO IT WAS MY ASSUMPTION THAT THE MANUFACTURER WOULD REPAIR OR REPLACE THE SAFETY CONCERN AT NO COST TO ME). I HAVE TWO YOUNG CHILDREN, SO THE VEHICLE IS NOT EVEN LEGAL FOR ME TO DRIVE IN ITS CURRENT CONDITION. WHEN COMING TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT, THERE WAS AN ENGINE FAULT WORKSHOP WARNING MESSAGE AND A BLINKING YELLOW GLOW PLUG WARNING LIGHT. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, THE CAR FELT SLUGGISH, NEEDING EXTRA THROTTLE THAN USUAL TO GET TO 35MPH. AFTER STOPPING AT THE NEXT RED LIGHT, THE CAR WAS STUCK IN FIRST GEAR (ONLY 30 SECONDS AFTER THE WARNING LIGHT), AND I COULD ONLY GET TO 10MPH IN A 35MPH ZONE. TURNING ON MY HAZARD BLINKERS, I WAS LUCKY THAT THERE WAS A DEDICATED LEFT TURN LANE INTO A PARKING LOT, OTHERWISE I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SAFELY PULL OVER TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER FROM THE LEFT LANE BEFORE THE ENGINE DIED. *TR
IN THE AFTERNOON OF 10/16/2013 WHILE TRAVELING BACK TO MY RESIDENCE I STOPPED ON THE ROAD, WHERE I HAD BEEN TRAVELING, BEFORE TURNING LEFT INTO A SUBDIVISION. THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME WAS ALSO FOLLOWING ME INTO THE SUBDIVISION. WHEN IT WAS CLEAR TO TURN LEFT I PUT MY CAR INTO FIRST GEAR AND PROCEEDED ACROSS THE LANE AND INTO THE SUBDIVISION. AS I WENT UP THE INCLINE THE CAR CAME OUT OF GEAR CAUSING THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME TO COME VERY CLOSE TO MINE AS IT SLOWED DOWN WITHOUT ANY BRAKE LIGHTS. I ENGAGED THE CLUTCH AND PUT THE CAR INTO SECOND GEAR AND PROCEEDED UP THE HILL. AT THE TOP OF THE HILL I TURNED RIGHT AND ACCELERATED. I TRIED TO CHANGE TO THIRD GEAR AND WAS UNABLE TO GO INTO GEAR. I TRIED AGAIN AND FOUND IT WASN'T POSSIBLE TO CHANGE GEARS. I COASTED TO THE LOCATION I NEEDED TO GO AND PARKED THE CAR. FOUND I WASN'T ABLE TO CHANGE INTO ANY GEAR WHILE THE ENGINE WAS ON AND THE CLUTCH WAS ENGAGED. I COULD ONLY CHANGE GEARS BY ENGAGING THE CLUTCH AND PUTTING THE CAR INTO THE FIRST OR REVERSE GEAR WHILE THE ENGINE WAS OFF. ACCORDINGLY I COULD DRIVE OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY IN REVERSE. STOP. TURN OFF THE ENGINE. CHANGE INTO FIRST GEAR AND START THE ENGINE TO GO FORWARD IN FIRST GEAR. I COULD NEVER CHANGE OUT OF FIRST GEAR. HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THE CLUTCH HAD FAILED. THERE HAD BEEN NO WARNING OF THE CLUTCH FAILING UNTIL IT STOPPED WORKING ALMOST CAUSING THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME TO RUN INTO THE REAR OF THE CAR. THE CAR WAS DRIVEN BY ONLY ONE DRIVER THROUGH-OUT ITS SERVICE LIFE. DRIVER HAD 30 YEARS OF DRIVING EXPERIENCE. THE CAR WAS MAINTAINED AS PRESCRIBED IN THE MANUAL AND HAD RECENTLY HAD ITS 50000 MILE SERVICE. THERE WAS NEVER ANY INDICATION THAT THE CLUTCH WAS WEARING OUT. THIS WAS COMPLETELY UNEXPECTED AND COULD HAVE CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT AND PUT LIVES AT RISK IF IT HAD HAPPENED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OR IN ANOTHER SITUATION WITH MORE TRAFFIC. *TR

I DROVE HOME FROM WORK ON 9/28/2013 GOT OFF THE FREEWAY, CAME TO A STOP AT END OF OFFRAMP AND THE FIRST WARNING LAMP CAME ON INDICATING A GLOW PLUG FAILURE. IT CONTINUED TO RUN AND I DROVE TO A NEARBY PARKING LOT AT APPROX. 50% POWER, PARKED, CYCLED THE IGNITION FROM ON TO OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN. THIS CLEARED THE FAULT TEMPORARILY, I DROVE TOWARD HOME AND WITHIN ANOTHER 2 MILES THE SAME GLOW PLUG FAULT RETURNED ALONG WITH THE CHECK ENGINE SYMBOL AND A WARNING INDICATING WORKSHOP WAS NEEDED. THE FOLLOWING DAY I BOUGHT A CODE READER, READ THE CODES AND FOUND SEVERAL LOGGED, SOME OF WHICH IM CERTAIN WERE RESIDUAL FAULTS FROM THE ACTUAL CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WHICH WAS INDICATED BY A RECURRING "LOW FUEL RAIL PRESSURE" FAULT. I HAVE CALLED THE DEALER WHICH INSTRUCTED ME TO LOOK AT THE FUEL FILTER AND AIDED BY AN ONLINE TECH INFO BLOG I INSPECTED THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP ACTUATOR FOR METAL DEBRIS. THE FUEL FILTER INSPECTION SHOWED SMALL, TRACE AMOUNTS OF METAL DUST WHILE THE FUEL PUMP INSPECTION SHOWED LARGER AND MORE SUBSTANTIAL METAL SHAVINGS UNDER THE ACTUATOR. THE INSPECTION OF THE TWO COMPONENTS ARE INDICATIVE AND INLINE WITH SIMILAR FINDINGS THAT PROVE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE, IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT NO TRACE OF GASOLINE WAS FOUND IN THIS SYSTEM AND ONLY CLEAN DIESEL FUEL WAS PRESENT DURING INSPECTION. FUEL FILTER WAS JUST CHANGED IN AUG 20 2013 AT SAME TIME AS TIMING BELT WHERE HPFP DRIVE GEAR WAS RETORQUED. I NOW HAVE A CAR THAT IS NOT FUNCTIONAL AND I'M NOT HAPPY. I BOUGHT A DIESEL FOR LONGEVITY AND HIGH FUEL ECONOMY NOT THIS. *TR
