THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
AFTER RETURNING FROM A SERVICE AT THE DEALER, MY 2009 SPORTWAGEN INSTRUMENT WARNING LIGHTS DISPLAYED A FLASHING GLOW PLUG LIGHT FOLLOWED IMMEDIATELY BY A MESSAGE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO IN FOR SERVICE. WE WERE FOUR HOUSES DOWN FROM OUR DRIVE, AND AS WE PULLED INTO THE DRIVEWAY, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF AND WOULD NOT RESTART. IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO REPORTED METAL DEBRIS IN THE FUEL FILTER INDICATING A HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE AND A COST FOR REPLACEMENT PARTS (ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM) TOTALING OVER $5000. THIS IS A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED VEHICLE, OWNED FOR LESS THAN ONE YEAR. I CALLED AND FILED A CLAIM WITH VW USA. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA TDI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS DISINTEGRATING FROM THE INSIDE, SENDING METAL SHAVINGS THROUGH THE FUEL SYSTEM. AS A RESULT, THE HIGHER PRESSURE FUEL PUMP BECAME DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND THEY DECIDED TO COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,205.
AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. TECHNICIAN SAYS PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR FAILURE, $1200.00 REPAIR ESTIMATE. THREE WEEKS UNTIL NEW SENSOR ARRIVES FROM THE FACTORY. NOW I'M DRIVING A CAR WITH NO AIR BAGS, UNTIL THE PART ARRIVES AT THE DEALER. AIR CONDITIONING FAILURE HAPPENS WITHIN HOURS OF AIR BAG SENSOR FAILURE. SENSOR AND A/C CONNECTED THROUGH SAME 5 AMP FUSE WHICH FAILED. REPLACING THE FUSE ACTIVATES THE A/C, BUT FUSE WILL RANDOMLY FAIL AGAIN AFTER SEVERAL ENGINE RESTARTS. TECHNICIAN SAYS FUSE WILL STOP FAILING ONCE THE AIR BAG SENSOR IS REPLACED. COULD, WHAT EVER TRANSIENT CAUSING THE FUSE FAILURE, BE CAUSING THE AIR BAG SENSOR FAILURE? COULD THE TRANSIENT, BE ATTENUATED BY THE SENSOR UNTIL THE SENSOR FINALLY FAILS? *TR
RE: NHTSA ACTION NUMBER EA11003 IN AUGUST 2013, WE EXPERIENCED THE SAME FUEL PUMP MALFUNCTION NOTED IN NHTSA ACTION NUMBER EA11003. VEHICLE IS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA TDI. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON STEADY AND ENGINE WAS NOT RUNNING WELL, THEN STALLED IN TRAFFIC AND WOULD NOT RESTART. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO LOCAL VOLKSWAGEN DEALER. DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT INSPECTED VEHICLE AND FOUND ISSUE WAS MALFUNCTIONING HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. TOTAL REPAIR COST WAS $5232.98 TO REPLACE FUEL PUMP, WATER PUMP, AND RELATED PARTS. VEHICLE FUEL WAS ALWAYS THE PRESCRIBED ULTRA LOW SULFUR DIESEL FUEL AVAILABLE IN LOCAL FILLING STATIONS: SUNOCO, SHELL, EXXON, HESS. *TR

VEHICLE, 2009 VW SPORTWAGEN TDI, WAS TRAVELING BETWEEN 40-45 MPH WHEN IT SUDDENLY LOST POWER. THEN THE GLOW PLUG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH THE MESSAGE 'ENGINE MALFUNCTION, WORKSTATION' DISPLAYED IN THE MULTIFUNCTION DISPLAY ON THE DASH. LUCKILY NARROWLY AVOIDED ACCIDENT AS CAR LIMPED THROUGH INTERSECTION. DEALER NOTED THAT THE PROBLEM IS DUE TO METAL SHAVINGS IN THE FUEL SYSTEM DUE TO PART FAILURE, PRESUMABLY THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. *TR
THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN HAPPENING IN MY JETTA TDI FOR OVER A YEAR, AND SO FAR MY MECHANIC HAS BEEN UNABLE TO FIGURE OUT THE CAUSE. I HEAR A DING AND THE GLOW PLUG LIGHT BEGINS FLASHING, AND ON THE SMALL SCREEN I SEE "ENGINE FAULT - WORKSHOP" ONCE. THE CAR SOMETIMES SEEMS TO LOSE POWER OR GO INTO "LIMP MODE" BUT SOMETIMES THERE IS NO AFFECT ON HOW IT DRIVES. WHEN I PULL OVER AND TURN OFF THE CAR, THEN TURN IT BACK ON, THE ERROR IS GONE AND THE CAR DRIVES FINE. THIS HAS HAPPENED MORE & MORE FREQUENTLY, ALMOST ALWAYS WHEN I'M DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. IT NOW HAPPENS AT LEAST EVERY OTHER WEEK OR SO. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I SEE THAT THIS IS A PRETTY COMMON PROBLEM FOR JETTA TDIS, AND IT SEEMS THAT VW NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! THE LAST TIME I HAD MY CAR IN THE SHOP FOR IT, ANOTHER CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD COME ON, AND THAT WAS FIXED, BUT THIS ISSUE WAS NOT BECAUSE MY MECHANIC COULDN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. NOW THAT I'VE DONE MORE RESEARCH I AM CALLING MY MECHANIC IN THE MORNING. *TR
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND GLOW PLUG INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATE AND ENGINE GOES INTO LIMP OR SAFE MODE. HAS HAPPENED TWICE AND DEALER CANNOT FIND PROBLEM. *TR
INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS FROM UNDETERMINED SOURCE FOR LAST YEAR, ENDED UP LOSING ALL LIGHTS ON PASSENGER SIDE OF CAR, AND SOME LIGHTS/LIGHT FUNCTION ON DRIVER'S SIDE, INCLUDING BRAKE LIGHTS, TURN SIGNALS, HEADLIGHTS ETC. RANDOM SECURITY ALARM GOING OFF WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO TURN IT OFF, BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS, TRACTION CONTROL ISSUES. AFTER A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH I BECAME AWARE THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND KNOWN VW ISSUE, AND FOUND F16 FUSE TO BE MELTED ALONG WITH A PORTION OF THE FUSE BOX. CALLED THE ONLY VW DEALER IN THE CITY 10/23/14 AND WAS TOLD I HAD TWO SAFETY RECALLS ON MY CAR, ONE FOR AN ECM SOFTWARE UPDATE AND ONE FOR THIS ELECTRICAL ISSUE, NEITHER OF WHICH I WAS NOTIFIED OF, YET HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED TO HAVE THE "DIESEL ONLY" STICKER INSTALLED, AND HAVEN'T MOVED SINCE LONG BEFORE I PURCHASED THE CAR. DEALER IS NOT ABLE TO LOOK AT MY VEHICLE UNTIL 10/27/14 AND CANNOT PROVIDE A LOANER CAR SINCE VOLKSWAGEN WON'T REIMBURSE THEM FOR THAT COST. CALLED VOLKSWAGEN CUSTOMER SERVICE AND SPOKE WITH DOUG, ONLY TO BE TOLD THEY COULD NOT AUTHORIZE RENTAL CAR REIMBURSEMENT, AND I WOULD NEED TO EITHER SHOULDER THAT EXPENSE MYSELF OR CONTINUE DRIVING THE CAR IN IT'S CURRENT STATE. INFORMED HIM THAT THE CAR WAS NOT SAFE TO BE DRIVEN WITH THE LIGHTING ISSUES, AND FUSE F16 BEING TIED INTO ABS AS WELL, WAS TOLD HE COULDN'T HELP ME. IF THEY HAD DONE THE CORRECT THING, I WOULDN'T BE LEFT IN AN UNSAFE CAR TO TRANSPORT MY FAMILY, DUE TO THEIR ENGINEERING DESIGN NEGLIGENCE. *TR
WE WERE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN OUR CAR SPUTTERED ONCE AND THEN DIED. WE COASTED INTO A PARKING LOT AND TRIED TO CRANK IT AGAIN. IT SPUTTERED ONCE AND DIED AGAIN. THEN WE WERE UNABLE TO GET IT RESTARTED. THIS WAS ON A SATURDAY AFTERNOON. MONDAY MORNING WE HAD IT TOWED TO A CERTIFIED INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP. THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS A FUEL SYSTEM FAILURE. THERE WAS METAL SHAVINGS IN THE FUEL SYSTEM. HE INDICATED THAT REPAIRS WOULD COST SIX THOUSAND. HE HAD TO REPLACE ALL THE FUEL COMPONENTS. IT WAS THREE WEEKS TO REPAIR IT. THE FINAL COST ENDED UP BEING $5688.17. THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER HAD GAS PUT IT IN. WE WERE ALWAYS VERY PARTICULAR ABOUT WHERE WE PURCHASED DIESEL FUEL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA TDI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND ALL OF THE WARNING LAMPS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,680 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 127,000.
THE FUSE BOX MELTED CAUSING FAILURE TO MANY OF THE VEHICLES FUNCTIONS. HAD I BEEN MOVING OR IN A CRASH - I WOULD HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO UNLOCK DOORS, OPEN WINDOWS ETC. THEY FUSE BOX ISSUES STARTED WITH SHORTING OUT THE HEADLIGHTS (ANOTHER SAFETY ISSUE). VW REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE SEVERITY OF THIS ISSUE. I KNOW THIS HAS HAPPENED WITH MANY OTHER OWNERS AS WELL. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED AND CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY AS WELL AS OTHERS. *TR
I STARTED MY VEHICLE WHEN I GOT A LIGHT BULB FAILURE LIGHT ON MY DASH, AFTER INVESTIGATING ALL AFFECTED BULBS WHICH WERE ALL ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE I LOOKED AT THE FUSES. COME TO FIND OUT THERE ARE TWO SPOTS IN THE FUSE BOX THAT ARE 30 AMPS AND WERE MELTED BUT NOT BLOWN. THE FUSE BOX ITSELF HAS BEEN MELTED AS WELL. I REPLACED THE FUSES AND ABOUT ONE YEAR LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I JIGGLED THE FUSES THAT WERE MELTED AND THE LIGHTS STARTED TO WORK AGAIN. *TR
CAR IS A JETTA TDI (DIESEL ENGINE). ENGINE WARNING LIGHT APPEARED WHILE DRIVING, APPROXIMATELY 50 YARDS LATER WHILE SLOWING DOWN THE ENGINE FAILED AND WOULD NOT RESTART. CAR WAS STOPPED AT INTERSECTION ON A BUSY 5 LANE ROAD AT 5:30 PM WITH CARS COMING FROM BEHIND AND AROUND AT SPEEDS OF 45+ MPH. SHERIFF CAME TO DIVERT TRAFFIC TO PREVENT A WRECK AND ALLOW TOW TRUCK TO TOW CAR SAFELY. DEALER STATES THAT HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILED, RUINING FUEL SYSTEM, QUOTES POTENTIAL REPAIR COST OF $8,500. FILLED FUEL TANK 5 MILES PRIOR TO INCIDENT WITH 11 GALLONS OF DIESEL FUEL (REPUTABLE FUEL DEALER, ALMOST ALWAYS USE THIS DEALER). THERE WAS NO WARNING PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT -- NO ROUGH ENGINE OR STALLING OR TROUBLE OF ANY KIND. CAR IS DRIVEN BY ONLY ONE DRIVER AND IS WELL MAINTAINED, HAS NEVER BEEN FUELED WITH ANYTHING BUT DIESEL FROM REPUTABLE DEALERS. CAR IS USUALLY DRIVEN ON THE FREEWAY (DEALER RECOMMENDED IT SPECIFICALLY FOR A LONG FREEWAY COMMUTE). LUCKY THAT IT DIDN'T STALL AT HIGH SPEED ON FREEWAY. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND TO A MECHANIC, WHO DETERMINED THAT ONE OF THE PRESSURE SENSORS IN THE EXHAUST SYSTEM HAD FAILED. THE DEALER REPLACED BOTH SENSORS BECAUSE IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO REPLACE JUST ONE. THE MECHANIC SPOKE WITH THE MANUFACTURER, BUT WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOT A REPAIR AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 143,000. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE IT WAS STATED THAT THE AIR SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,000. *TR
LIKE HAS BEEN REPORTED BY MANY OTHER OWNERS, THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR DOOR LOCKING MECHANISM IS FAULTY. DOOR INTERMITTENTLY LOCKS WHEN THE LOCK BUTTON IS PRESSED. SOMETIMES THE DOOR WILL LOCK AND REMAIN LOCKED. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE DOOR CANNOT BE UNLOCKED FROM INSIDE OR OUTSIDE THE CAR WITHOUT REPEATEDLY TRYING UP TO 30 TIMES IN SOME INSTANCES. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. IF THE DOOR IS LOCKED AND THERE IS AN ACCIDENT, OCCUPANTS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ESCAPE. *TR
MY ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME ON, FOLLOWED BY THE GLOW PLUG LIGHT AND THEN MY ENGINE STALLED AND DIED 30 SECS LATER. MY HAZARD LIGHTS, DASHBOARD LIGHTS, ETC FUNCTIONED, BUT I COULD NOT BRING THE ENGINE BACK TO LIFE. POLICEMAN SUGGESTED IT MAY BE A FUEL PUMP, BECAUSE WHEN I TRIED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WHILE TRYING TO START THE CAR, IT DID NOT HELP. I HAD 3/4 TANK OF DIESEL STILL IN MY TANK AND I ALWAYS FILL AT THE SAME PUMP WHICH HAS A YELLOW HANDLE AND SAYS "DIESEL" AND I AM THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS FILLED THE TANK ON THIS VEHICLE. *TR
THE REAR DOORS ON MY 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA TDI DON'T LOCK - WITH THE LOCK INSIDE THE DOOR OR THE KEY FOB. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN AS I DRIVE THROUGH THE CITY EVERYDAY AND ANYONE COULD JUST GET IN MY CAR OR ROB ME. I RESEARCHED IT ONLINE TO TRY AND SOLVE THE ISSUE MYSELF, BUT IT SEEMS LIKE A DIFFICULT/EXPENSIVE FIX, AND THERE ARE NUMEROUS POSTS ONLINE ABOUT OTHER JETTA TDI'S LOCKS MALFUNCTIONING. VOLKSWAGEN HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL, BUT THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THEIR VEHICLES. *TR
EXTERIOR RIGHT HEADLAMP AND RIGHT TURN SIGNAL STOPPED WORKING, DISCOVERED THAT FUSE HAD MELTED IN FUSE BOX, FUSE CHANGED, WORKED FOR APPROXIMATELY 2 MONTHS THEN FUSE BLEW AGAIN. HAVE CHANGED FUSES 4 TIMES, BUT KEEPS GOING OUT. *TR
WE WERE DRIVING OUR 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA TDI DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 65MPH ON FRIDAY MAY 24, 2013 WHEN SUDDENLY THE CAR BEGAN TO SHAKE AND SHUDDER VIOLENTLY. IT WAS VERY SCARY AND THEN IT SEEMED THAT THE POWER WAS COMING IN AND OUT. BECAUSE OF THE SUDDEN SHAKING AND LOSS OF POWER, I HAD TO VERY QUICKLY PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TO AVOID CAUSING AN ACCIDENT ON A HEAVILY CONGESTED HIGHWAY ON A HOLIDAY WEEKEND. THE VEHICLE IS ALWAYS SERVICED BY THE DEALERSHIP (INCLUDING ALL OIL CHANGES) AND IS UP TO DATE ON ALL PERTINENT MAINTENANCE. THE DEALERSHIP HAS DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE WITH A FAILED HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP (HPFP) AND HAS ACCUSED US OF SOMEHOW ALLOWING METAL INTO THE DIESEL FUEL (THEY EVEN HAD SOME METAL "SAMPLES" TO SHOW ME AT THEIR SERVICE COUNTER, HOW BIZARRE). I WENT BACK TO THE FUEL STATION WHERE WE LAST FILLED UP AND SPOKE TO THE MANAGER, WHO SAID THERE HAVE BEEN NO REPORTS OF ANY ISSUES RELATED TO CONTAMINANTS OF ANY KIND IN THEIR DIESEL FUEL. WE ARE STUCK WITH A $6,000 BILL FOR A DEALER-MAINTAINED CAR THAT HAS ~83,000 MILES ON IT AND IS JUST OVER 3 YEARS OLD, IN ADDITION TO THE FRIGHT OF A VIOLENT LOSS OF THE VEHICLE'S POWER, AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. *TR
2009 JETTA SPORTWAGEN TDI HPFP FAILURE AND FUEL SYSTEM CONTAMINATION. FAILURE OF HPFP SENDS METAL PARTICLES THROUGHOUT FUEL SYSTEM VIA FUEL RETURN LINES. THIS IS SERIOUS AND EXPENSIVE ISSUE TO REPAIR. VW DID ACKNOWLEDGE ISSUE WITH HPFP AND REPAIRED AT THEIR EXPENSE. *TR
ON WEDNESDAY 5/22/13 I WAS DRIVING MY 2009 VW JETTA TDI AT ABOUT 45MPH WHEN ALL THE SUDDEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, THE GLOW PLUG LIGHT STARTED FLASHING, AND ENGINE FAULT WORKSHOP CAME UP ON MY DISPLAY. THE CAR LOST POWER AND WASN'T RUNNING RIGHT. I IMMEDIATELY STOPPED THE CAR AND CALLED MY LOCAL VW DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF THE CAR WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. (WARNING IF THIS HAPPENS TO YOU DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR NO MATTER WHAT THE DEALERSHIP SAYS!!!!!) THE VW DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP SINCE ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS WHERE ORANGE AND NOT RED. THE CAR HAD VERY LOW POWER WHILE DRIVING TO THE DEALERSHIP AND EVENTUALLY DIED. I THEN TOWED THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND AFTER 2 DAYS GOT THE DREADED CALL THAT THE HPFP(HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP) HAD FAILED AND SENT METAL SHRAPNEL THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM . VW IS TELLING ME THIS IS GOING TO COST ME $7,000 TO FIX WHICH IS ABSOLUTELY ABSURD SINCE VW IS VERY AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND HAS COVERED THE COSTS FOR OTHER PEOPLE WHEN THIS HAS HAPPENED. I DON'T THINK IT IS RIGHT THAT A 4 YEAR OLD CAR WITH 80K MILES ON IT SHOULD HAVE A REPAIR COST THIS HIGH. I HAD JUST PULLED OFF A HIGHWAY TO TURN AROUND IN A BUSINESS DRIVEWAY/PARKING LOT. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MANEUVER, THE ENGINE CUT OUT. I TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR NUMEROUS TIMES, BUT WAS UNABLE TO RESTART IT. I HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE VW DEALERSHIP AS I HAD JUST PURCHASED THE USED CAR TWO WEEKS AGO AND IT WAS A CERTIFIED VEHICLE. I JUST TALKED TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TODAY AND THEY TOLD ME THAT I HAD PUT BAD FUEL IN THE VEHICLE. I HAD FILLED THE TANK ONE WEEK BEFORE WITH ULTRA LOW SULFUR DIESEL. WHEN ASKED WHAT I COULD HAVE DONE TO PREVENT THIS, I WAS TOLD THAT I SHOULD HAVE GONE TO A MAJOR BRAND OF GAS STATION - HE DID NOT EVEN ASK WHICH GAS STATION I WENT TO. HE DESCRIBED THAT THE BAD DIESEL CAUSED THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP TO EXPLODE AND SEND METAL SHAVINGS THROUGH THE SYSTEM. THEY HAVE HAD TO REPLACE, FLUSH, OR CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT THE FUEL TOUCHED. HE SAID VW WILL COVER MOST OF THE REPAIRS, BUT I WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR APPROXIMATELY $450 WORTH (I DO NOT RECALL WHAT FOR). THE REPAIRS ARE CURRENTLY UNDERWAY. THE WAY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT HANDLES THIS AMOUNTS TO SAYING THAT I WAS AT FAULT FOR PUTTING BAD DIESEL IN THE CAR, WHEREAS I HAVE NO WAY TO GAUGE THE QUALITY OF FUEL I AM PURCHASING. *TR

SINCE PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE, I HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH THE INTERIOR CABIN LIGHT AND THE DOOR LOCKS ON THE DRIVER SIDE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT AND THEY TOLD ME THIS WAS A "KNOWN" PROBLEM WITH THE DOOR LOCKS AND IF THE DOOR LOCK WAS NOT FIXED, MY DOORS WOULD CONTINUE TO LOCK AND UNLOCK ON THEIR OWN. I EXITED THE INTERSTATE AND CAME TO A STOP. THE GLOW PLUG LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AND THE CAR HAD NO POWER AND STALLED. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND IT HAD NO POWER. IT STALLED AGAIN AND WOULD NOT START. I HAD IT TOWED TO A VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIP AND THEY FOUND THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP HAD FAILED AND CONTAMINATED THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM RESULTING IN COSTLY REPAIRS. *TR
I WAS COMING TO A STOP OFF A HIGHWAY OFF RAMP. MY CAR DIED WHILE COMING TO THE STOP. I WAS STUCK AND BLOCKING A HUGE LINE OF TRAFFIC! I AM GOING TO THE DEALER TO FIND OUT WHAT'S GOING WRONG, BUT THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR ANY CAR TO DIE FOR NO REASON. *TR
THE FUEL PUMP FAILED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LOOSE POWER AND COME TO A STOP ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY. THIS IS A DIESEL VW WHICH SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM, BUT VOLKSWAGEN DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THAT EVEN THOUGH THE LOCAL DEALER HAS DONE 2 OF THESE SINCE JANUARY. IT IS COSTING ME 8000 TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM. I HAVE TAKEN CAR TO AN INDEPENDENT SHOP AND DEBATING ON MAKING REPAIRS AT THIS POINT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING, THERE WAS A BRIEF GRINDING NOISE, AND THE MOTOR SUDDENLY STOPPED PROVIDING POWER, THE POWER STEERING STOPPED, AND EVERY WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. FORTUNATELY I WAS ON A CITY STREET IN VERY LIGHT TRAFFIC AND COULD COAST SAFELY TO THE CURB. I TRIED TO RESTART IT, AND THE ENGINE WOULD CRANK, BUT WITHOUT IGNITION. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER, AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE DIESEL FUEL PUMP HAD DISINTEGRATED, AND HAD TO BE REPLACED WITH A NEW REDESIGNED ONE. THIS THEY DID AT NO COST, FOR WHICH I AM VERY GRATEFUL. *TR

CAR APPEARED TO BE SLUGGISH AS I WAS DRIVING BACK TO THE OFFICE FROM LUNCH. AS I APPROACH THE LAST MAJOR INTERSECTION BEFORE GETTING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE CAR STARTED TO MAKE A VERY LOUD TICKING/KNOCK SOUND THAT WAS REV DEPENDENT. AS I ACCELERATED ON THE HIGHWAY TWO FAULTS CAME UP ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. THEY WERE A FLASHING GLOW PLUG LIGHT AND THE PHRASE ENGINE FAULT WORKSHOP. I WAS JUST REACHING THE SPEED LIMIT AT THIS TIME BUT POWER BEGAN TO FADE (IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, LUCKILY I HAD NOT YET MOVED INTO OTHER LANES). I MANAGED TO DRIVE AT 40 TO 45 MPH TO THE NEXT EXIT AND SAFELY PARKED THE CAR. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE LOCAL VW DEALER WHO NOTED THAT THE HPFP (HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP) HAD FAILED AND TAKEN OUT THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM (THE CAR IS DIESEL POWERED). THE DIESEL FUEL IN THE TANK WAS TESTED AND CAME BACK UNCONTAMINATED. IT HAD BEEN 54 MILES SINCE MY LAST FILL UP ON 2/2/2013. *TR
THIS CAR IS A VW JETTA TDI (TURBODIESEL). DRIVING ON I-96 BETWEEN LANSING AND BRIGHTON THE JETTA BEGAN TO RUN ROUGHLY WITH A LOSS OF POWER. THE TRAFFIC WAS VERY SLOW DUE TO A SNOWSTORM, SO I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING. THE CAR RAN INCREASINGLY ROUGH AND EVENTUALLY STOPPED. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP, GERMAIN VW IN ANN ARBOR. THE REPORT WAS FUEL SYSTEM FAILURE DUE TO THE HPFP BREAKING APART. THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED AND THE FUEL TANK FULLY CLEANED OF METAL FRAGMENTS. *TR
DRIVING UP A MOUNTAIN HIGHWAY, THE CAR LOST ALL POWER (EVEN WITH THE GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR). ONCE PULLED OVER, THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T START AGAIN. THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP IN THE TDI FAILED CATASTROPHICALLY AND SENT METAL SHRAPNEL THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM. *TR

PREVIOUSLY CAR HAD NUMEROUS INSTANCES WHEN STARTING FROM A STOP HAVING HESITATION OR FAILURE TO ACCELERATE NORMALLY CREATING POTENTIAL HAZARDS WITH CROSS TRAFFIC. APPARENT FAILURE OF THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP (HPFP) ON THE DIESEL ENGINE. THIS IS THE SECOND FAILURE OF THE HPFP IN THIS CAR, FIRST WAS REPLACED BY DEALER WARRANTY AND THEY ADVISED ME OF THE INITIAL REPLACEMENT.
JETTA TDI WAS RUNNING FINE WITH NO INDICATIONS OF ANY PROBLEM. FOLLOWING A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE, THE CAR JUST STOPPED RUNNING AND WOULD NOT RESTART. LOCAL VW DEALER SERVICE MANAGER INDICATES ISSUE IS WITH FUEL PUMP AND ENSUING DEBRIS IN ENGINE. COST TO REPAIR IN EXCESS OF $5,000. VW TO DATE UNWILLING TO ACKNOWLEDGE DEFECT AND CONTRIBUTE TOWARDS COST OF REPAIR, OR SHOW ANY CONCERN FOR THE SAFETY ISSUES THIS SORT OF PROBLEM PRESENTS. *TR
I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN ENTERING NORTH BOUND TRAFFIC ON GREENFIELD ROAD SOUTH OF BASELINE ROAD ON WEDNESDAY JANUARY 16, 2013. TRAFFIC WAS VERY HEAVY AND UPON ENTERING TRAFFIC THE ENGINE SUDDENLY BEGAN TO LOOSE POWER, RUN VERY ROUGH. IT SEEMS LIKE ALL OF THE DASH WARNING LIGHTS FLASHED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THE ENGINE COMPLETELY DIED. AFTER THE ENGINE DIED, I LOST POWER STEERING AND WAS UNABLE TO SAFELY NEGOTIATE MY WAY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I WAS ALMOST STRUCK TWO TIMES BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO COAST INTO A PARKING LOT ON EAST SIDE OF GREENFIELD ROAD. THE REPAIR OF THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY UNDERWAY. THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE HIGH PRESSURE INJECTOR PUMP FAILING, CREATING METAL SHAVINGS THAT CLOGGED AND CONTAMINATING THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM. THE CAR HAS 104,000 MILES ON IT AND THERE WAS NO PRIOR INDICATION OF FUEL SYSTEM PROBLEMS. THE FAILURE WAS CATASTROPHIC. THERE WAS NO OTHER CONTAMINATION OF THE FUEL . *TR
DRIVING AT STEADY SPEED OF AROUND 20 MPH WHEN SUDDENLY SPEED AND RPMS DECREASED WITH GLOWPLUG LIGHT FLASHING. NOTICED A LOSS OF POWER. CAR WOULD PICK UP SPEED VERY SLOWLY. DID NOT FORCE ENGINE IN ANY WAY. 5 MINUTES LATER THE CAR DIED. TRIED STARTING CAR BACK UP BUT WOULD NOT START. HAD IT TOWED TO KNOWN LOCAL MECHANIC SHOP. WAS TOLD IT WAS A FUEL SYSTEM ISSUE IN WHICH THE FILTERS AND INJECTORS WERE BEING CLOGGED UP THEREFORE DAMAGING THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM, WHICH WAS A KNOWN COMMON PROBLEM IN THIS THAT VOLKSWAGEN DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE, AND REPAIRS WOULD COST AROUND $6K-7K TO REPLACE THE WHOLE FUEL SYSTEM. VERY UNHAPPY WITH THIS SITUATION AND DISAPPOINTED WITH VOLKSWAGEN AT THE FACT THAT NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO HELP THE CUSTOMERS THAT DRIVE THEIR VEHICLES CONSIDERING THE AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS ISSUE. *TR

UPON IMPACT, THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND THE AIR BAG FAILURE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED FACE, NECK, AND TORSO INJURIES AFTER BEING THROWN INTO THE STEERING COLUMN. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000.
THE SAME THING HAS OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 10-15 TIMES NOW. WHILE DRIVING, IT IS AS IF THE CAR GOES INTO NEUTRAL, AND APPLYING GAS DOES NOTHING. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS BECAUSE THERE IS NO WARNING THAT IT IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN, AND IF IT WERE TO OCCUR WHILE PULLING OUT IN TRAFFIC, WE WOULD BE STUCK IN PLACE WITH NO WAY TO ACCELERATE AND GET OUT OF THE WAY OF TRAFFIC. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG AND OUR MONEY FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC WAS SPENT AND SOLVED NOTHING. IT HAS BEEN INCONSISTENT, SOMETIMES NOT HAPPENING FOR WEEKS AT A TIME, BUT IN THE LAST 5 DAYS IT HAS HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 5 TIMES. IT IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF ASAP! *TR
