THE VEHICLE WAS VALET PARKED. THE VALET ATTENDANT REPORTED THAT THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN AS SHE WAS DRIVING IT UP THE RAMP OUT OF THE PARKING GARAGE. SHE ALSO REPORTED A KNOCKING SOUND AND THAT THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT WAS ON. UPON ENTERING THE VEHICLE, I WAS UNABLE TO START IT. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE VW DEALERSHIP. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP HAD FAILED AND THAT THEY HAD SEEN OTHER CARS COMING IN WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM. SERVICE DEPARTMENT PAPERWORK STATES: "DEFECTIVE HIGH PRESSURE PUMP-METAL IN SYSTEM" AND "FOUND FAULT P0191." VEHICLE SPEED AT TIME OF INCIDENT IS ESTIMATED BASED ON VALET ATTENDANT'S DESCRIPTION. *TR
VW JETTA TDI PURCHASED IN DECEMBER 2009 IN SAVANNAH, GA. THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR HAS HAD INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS WITH THE WINDOW BUMPING OFF THE TOP WHEN WE ATTEMPT TO CLOSE IT. IT THEN RETRACTS TO FULLY OPEN. THE MAIN PROBLEM CURRENTLY IS THE DOOR LOCK ON THE SAME DOOR. IT WILL NOT LOCK UNDER ANY TYPE OF ATTEMPT. I HAVE TRIED THE FOB, THE INTERIOR DOOR LOCK ON THE DRIVER DOOR, AND THE LOCK ON THE DOOR ITSELF. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THAT I NEED A NEW LOCK ASSEMBLY AT THE COST OF $600. THEY LATER OFFERED A REDUCED PRICE OF $491. FORTUNATELY, I PURCHASED A WARRANTY WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR AND I ONLY WILL BE CHARGED THE $100 DEDUCTIBLE. THANK GOODNESS. THE CAR HAS 60,000 MILES ON IT AND IT SEEMS A SHAME THAT THE CAR IS NOT SAFE AT THAT MINIMAL AMOUNT OF MILES. *TR
BOTH PASSENGER AND DRIVER'S SIDE REAR SEAT BELT PLASTIC COVER CRACKED COMPLETELY THROUGH. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR LOCK FAILED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL THE OTHER DOOR LOCKS EVENTUALLY FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE LOCK ACTUATORS ON EACH DOOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,200.
VW JETTA SPORTSWAGEN TDI. SAME INCIDENT AS COMPLAINT 10508928 AND APPARENTLY MANY OTHERS. THE FUEL PUMP "EXPLODED" (DEALER'S WORD) SENDING METAL SHRAPNEL THROUGH THE WHOLE FUEL SYSTEM. GLOW PLUG LIGHT CAME ON FIRST. CAR DIED WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. VW FIXED FOR FREE, AND PRETENDED THAT THIS WAS GENEROUS, WHEN IN FACT IT APPEARS THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL? *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY DOING ABOUT 55 MILES AN HOUR WITH FULL TRAFFIC AND MY JETTA SPUTTERED AND BEGAN TO LOSE SPEED-QUICKLY, I TRIED TO ACCELERATE BY PRESSING GAS PEDAL BUT NOTHING HAPPENED AND I LUCKILY COASTED INTO STORE PARKING LOT. I TRIED TO RESTART IT BUT IT WOULD NOT RESTART. I HAD IT TOWED TO VW DEALERSHIP AND THEY CALLED ME THE NEXT DAY TO SAY IT WAS THE INTERCOOLANT SYSTEM AND IT WOULD BE 1300.00. VERY VERY LUCKY I WAS NOT HIT. *TR
HAPPENED LAST NIGHT, WITH MY 6 YR OLD DAUGHTER IN THE CAR, AND WIFE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY! CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, AND FUEL INJECTOR/GLOW PLUG LIGHT BLINKING, CAR SHUTDOWN, BUT FORTUNATELY WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE BUT STILL NEXT TO FREEWAY ON/OFF RAMP. CAR WOULD CRANK OVER BUT NOT START. CALLED AAA TOW TO VW DEALER WHERE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED. I DROVE THE CAR EARLIER THAT MORNING ON A FAIRLY LONG TRIP (OVER 100 MILES), AND STARTED NOTICING THE FUEL ECONOMY WASN'T AS GOOD AS I NORMALLY WOULD GET (40 MPG), BUT IT WAS RAINING HEAVY THAT MORNING SO THAT'S WHAT I ATTRIBUTED IT TO, BUT ONLY SEEING 30 MPG AFTER ALL FREEWAY DRIVING WAS SUSPICIOUS TO ME. VW DEALER SAID THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILED AND CONTAMINATED THE ENTIRE DIESEL FUEL SYSTEM AND ALL THE PARTS WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED AND FUEL SYSTEM CLEANED OUT. *TR
THE CAR ABRUPTLY DECELERATED FROM 65 TO 35 MPH ON A MAJOR INTERSTATE AS THE ENGINE WENT INTO 'LIMP MODE'. THE SUDDEN DECELERATION CAUSED SWERVING AND I HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE CURB IN ORDER TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. THE COIL/CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON AND CAR HESITATED AS IT DROVE. THIS IS THE THIRD INCIDENT THAT THIS CAR HAS HAD WITH THE EXHAUST PROBLEM CAUSING ENGINE TO FORCE DECELERATION AND ABRUPT STOPPING EVEN STALLING. THE SYSTEM THIS TIME DIAGNOSED A DEFECTIVE EXHAUST CONTROL MODULE/FLAP. THE PREVIOUS EMISSIONS ISSUE WHILE THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY INVOLVED DEFECTIVE EGR VALVES. PROBLEM SEEMS TO SHOW UP EVERY 10-15K MILES ON THIS DIESEL MODEL. *TR
ON MONDAY, 11-19, AFTER WORK I NOTICED THAT THE BULB INDICATOR LIGHT WAS IN ON THE DASHBOARD. I GOT OUT AND WALKED AROUND THE CAR TO SEE WHAT WENT OUT AND COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING. AFTER GETTING BACK IN I SAW THAT THE LIGHT WAS OFF. THE NEXT DAY WHEN MY HUSBAND GOT IN THE CAR THE SAME INCIDENT HAPPENED. LATER THAT SAME DAY I DROVE THE CAR AND THE LIGHT CAME ON. AS I TURNED INTO A FUEL STATION THE TURN SIGNAL BEGAN TO FLASH QUICKLY (INDICATING THE TURN SIGNAL WAS OUT). AFTER I REFUEL THE LIGHTS ALL CAME BACK ON. NO PROBLEMS WERE NOTICED UNTIL THURSDAY, 11-22, WHEN MY HUSBAND STARTED THE CAR AND THE INDICATOR LIGHT WAS ON AND HE GOT OUT TO CHECK AND THE PASSENGER TURN SIGNALS WAS OUT, ALONG WITH THE PASSENGER HEADLIGHT, AND THE WHOLE DRIVER SIDE TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY IS OUT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRYING TO RETRIEVE A CHILD FROM THE REAR SEAT, THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER REAR DOORS FAILED TO UNLOCK. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RETRIEVE THE CHILD BY ENTERING THE VEHICLE FROM THE FRONT AND CLIMBING TO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE REPLICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
THE CAR'S ENGINE STOPPED FUNCTIONING WHILE DRIVING ON I-80 ON THE WAY TO WORK IN THE MORNING. I WAS IN THE FAR LEFT LANE AND HAD TO USE HAZARD SIGNALS TO PULL THE CAR TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER DURING BUSY COMMUTE TRAFFIC. THE ENGINE GLOW LIGHT INDICATOR AND THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP WERE ON DURING THE FAILURE. THE CAR DID NOT RESTART AND A TOW TRUCK TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP. METAL DEBRIS WAS PRESENT INSIDE OF THE FUEL PUMP AND FUEL FILTER. *TR
GLOW PLUG LIGHT CAME LIT ON DASH AND SAID "SERVICE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY." ENGINE THEN LOST POWER ON INTERSTATE (DANGEROUS). WHEN RE-CRANKED, ENGINE WAS SLUGGISH AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE ABOVE 40MPH. VW SERVICE SAID IT WAS DUE TO A FAULTY FUEL PUMP. *TR
MY 2010 VW JETTA SPORTWAGEN GOT THE GLOW PLUG LIGHT INTERMITTENT FLASH STARTING ON 72K MILES. IN THE COLD MORNING I COULD DRIVE 10-15 MINUTES WITHOUT ISSUE. HOWEVER, ONCE THE GLOW PLUG IS ON, IT COULD NOT EXCEED 40MPH. HERE'S THE DIAGNOSTIC FROM THE DEALERSHIP: 72017 CONFIRM MILE ON, GLOW PLUG LIGHT INTERMITTENT FLASH. PERFORM GUIDED FAULT FINDING, FAULTS TORED P00AF. TURBOCHARGER BOOST PERFORMANCE VISUAL INSPECTION FOUND VACUUM HOSES GOOD. FOLLOWING TEST PLAN, CHECK N75 SOLENOID GOOD. CHECK WIRING TO G581 REF VOLT GOOD. PERFORM GFF FUNCTION TEST VACUUM DIAPHRAM GOOD. FUNCTION TEST N75 GOOD. VACUUM AT 9PSI. CHECK INTERNAL RESISTANCE AT BOOST ACTUATOR POSITION SENSOR OUT OF SPEC. REC REPLACE G581 CHARGE PRESSURE ACTUATOR POSITION SENSOR (WITHIN TURBO ASSEMBLY)... PARTS WILL NEED TO BE SPECIAL ORDERED $1,444.41 + TAX... *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION OVERHEAT WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT MOVED OFF THE ROADWAY AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, AS IT RESUMED PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT WHILE PERFORMING AN INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE, HE NOTICED THAT THE WIRES THAT WERE CONNECTED TO THE ALTERNATOR WERE BURNED AND THE FUSE BLOCK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
HAD THE VEHICLE SERVICED AT THE 40,000 MILE INTERVAL. METAL FLAKES WERE FOUND IN THE FUEL FILTER. I WAS TOLD OF YOUR INVESTIGATION OF THE HPFP PROBLEMS THAT THIS MODEL HAS BEEN DEMONSTRATING. I WOULD LIKE TO FILE THIS INFORMATION WITH YOU IN CASE THIS FUEL PUMP FAILS. I UNDERSTAND THAT VW HAS BEEN RELUCTANT TO HONOR THEIR WARRANTY. *TR
REAR PASSENGER SEAT BELTS MALFUNCTIONED FOR THE REAR MIDDLE AS WELL AS REAR DOOR SEAT. THE MIDDLE SEAT BELT WOULD NOT LOOSEN UP IE IT WAS TAUT AND THE DOOR SIDE SEAT WAS COMPLETELY LOOSE AND WOULD NOT RETRACT. THIS POSES A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD AND I HAD TO PAY INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO REMOVE AND REPLACE SEAT BELT. *TR
FOUR FAILURES IN FOUR MONTHS.THIS IS A REPEAT FAILURE WITH MY DIESEL FUEL SYSTEM. I PREVIOUSLY REPORTED THE FIRST TWO OCCURRENCES ON THIS SITE. VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA HAS NOW REPLACED MY ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM INCLUDING THE TANK. THIS WAS ONLY AFTER REPEATED REQUESTS AFTER FOUR TIMES TO DEALER FOR SERVICE FOR THIS ISSUE--TOTAL TIME MY CAR WAS IN FOR SERVICE WAS 45 DAYS OVER JULY THROUGH OCT. 19, 2012. I WAS AWARE OF THE FUEL PUMP FAILURE AFTER RESEARCHING GLOW PLUG LIGHT FLASHING TDI AND LIMP MODE IMMEDIATELY UPON THE FIRST TIME THE LIGHTS STARTED TO FLASH ON JULY 6, 2012. I WENT TO DEALER AND THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. JULY 17 IT HAPPENED AGAIN THEY FOUND METAL SHARDS IN THE FUEL FILTER AND REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP...I REQUESTED THEY REPLACE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM, EXPLAINING TO THE VOA CUSTOMER CARE PERSON THAT METAL SHARDS GO THROUGHOUT THE SYSTEM, DENIED. PICKED UP MY CAR ON JULY 31 (AFTER 15 DAYS IN SHOP). ON SEPT. 17 WARNING LIGHTS/LIMPMODE AGAIN. I AGAIN REQUEST THEY REPLACE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM, NO, ONLY THE PUMP IN THE TANK. PICK UP CAR SEPT. 28 (12 DAYS IN SHOP). FOUR DAYS LATER ON OCT. 2, AGAIN WARNING LIGHTS/LIMP MODE. BACK TO DEALER, AGAIN REQUEST VOFA TO REPLACE FUEL SYSTEM. NO ONLY THE FUEL RAIL. DEALER REPLACES FUEL RAIL, TAKES FOR A TEST DRIVE AND IT FAILED ON THEM. FINALLY VOA AGREES TO REPLACE THE FUEL SYSTEM...BUT NOT THE TANK. ONLY CLEAN THE TANK. I REQUEST NEW TANK, VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICAN TELLS ME I CAN GO INSPECT THE CLEANED OUT TANK...HOW WILL I SEE INSIDE THE TANK...VOA CUST SERVICE TELLS ME THEN I BETTER BRING A FLASH LIGHT. MIND YOU I WAS DEALING WITH THE SAME CUST SERV REP [XXX] THE ENTIRE TIME. THEY DECIDE TO REPLACE TANK. PICK CAR UP OCT. 19 (18 DAYS IN SHOP). WAITING FOR IT TO HAPPEN AGAIN. 2010 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO A FAULTY GPS *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN HE ENTERED HIS DESTINATION ON THE GPS, HE RECEIVED AN ANNOUNCEMENT THAT THE DESTINATION WAS NOT POSSIBLE. VOLKSWAGEN SENT THE CONSUMER A $250 VOUCHER FOR A SOFTWARE UPDATE. HOWEVER, THE UPDATE DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. A SECOND SOFTWARE UPDATE THEN CAME OUT. HOWEVER, THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, BUT HE COULD PURCHASE IT, FOR $250.00 *JB
THE PASSENGER REAR DOOR LATCH STOPPED LOCKING WHEN THE MASTER DOOR LOCK IS PUSHED OR THE KEYLESS IS PRESSED. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE MY CHILDREN SIT IN THE BACK AND THERE IS NOT AN ACCESSIBLE MANUAL BUTTON TO LOCK THE DOOR WITH. MY CAR IS ONLY TWO YEARS OLD! WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY SAID IT WAS MY PROBLEM. WHEN THEY HAD IN THE SHOP THEY TOLD ME THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR NO LONGER LOCKS EITHER. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY PROBLEM. THE QUOTED PRICE IS $350.00 PER LOCK. A DOOR THAT YOU CAN'T LOCK IS A PROBLEM THAT THE DEALER SHOULD RESOLVE. *TR
FIRST INCIDENT: OCCURRED IN FALL 2012, EXACT DATE UNKNOWN. SLOWING TO TURN RIGHT, VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. POWER STEERING WAS NOT RESPONDING. IT WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY. VEHICLE WAS EVALUATED, NOTHING WAS FOUND. WE WERE TOLD THAT THEY COULD SEE SOME SORT OF POWER INTERRUPTION, BUT COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH ANY OF THE SYSTEMS INVOLVED. SECOND INCIDENT: OCCURRED ABOUT 1 MONTHS AFTER FIRST INCIDENT. WHILE SLOWING TO A STOP, INTENDING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN OUT OF PARKING LOT, AGAIN VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. DID NOT TAKE CAR TO DEALERSHIP, AS IT HAD JUST RECENTLY BEEN EVALUATED. GAS WAS < 1/8 TANK FILLED, AND PARKING LOT EXIT WAS ON A SLIGHT DECLINE, SUSPECTED MAYBE IT WAS RELATED TO LOW FUEL, AND WE TRIED TO KEEP THE CAR ABOVE 1/4 TANK FULL AT ALL TIMES THEREAFTER. THIRD INCIDENT: OCCURRED 4/29/14. SLOWING TO PULL INTO A PARKING SPACE, AGAIN ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. I NOTED THAT THE BATTERY INDICATOR LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD LIT UP SLIGHTLY BEFORE OR AS CAR WAS STALLING. POWER STEERING FAILED AS WELL WHEN CAR STALLED. RADIO / HEATER / OTHER ELECTRONICS SEEMED UNAFFECTED AFTER A BRIEF FLICKER. FOURTH INCIDENT: OCCURRED ABOUT 20 MINUTES LATER ON 4/29/14. SLOWING FOR A STOP LIGHT, VEHICLE STALLED UNEXPECTEDLY. CAR IS DUE FOR INSPECTION, APPOINTMENT IN 2 DAYS. DEALERSHIP ASKED TO INVESTIGATE STALLING AS WELL. *JS
STOPPED AND FILLED UP VEHICLE WITH DIESEL FUEL AROUND 5 PM 9/16/12. DROVE APPROXIMATELY 10.2 MILES AND THE VEHICLE ENGINE STOPPED. EXACTLY AT THAT MOMENT, THE WARNING 'CHECK ENGINE NOW' INDICATOR PHRASE WAS DISPLAYED IN THE DISPLAY PANEL. IT STAYED ON FOR A FEW SECONDS, AND THEN TURNED OFF, AND THERE WERE NO INDICATOR LIGHTS ON AT ALL THAT WOULD INDICATE LOW OIL PRESSURE OR FUEL OR ANY OTHER SYMPTOM. WE HAD ENOUGH MOMENT TO ROLL TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF TRAFFIC. ELECTRIC WAS WORKING AS WE WERE ABLE TO ROLL DOWN THE WINDOWS OF THE CAR, THE RADIO WAS ON. PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TRIED STARTING THE ENGINE. IT WOULD CRANK OVER, BUT NEVER CATCH. EVEN THOUGH WE HAD JUST PUT IN 13.5 GALLONS OF FUEL, THE CAR BEHAVED AS THOUGH IT WERE OUT OF FUEL. I CHECKED THE RECEIPT TO VERIFY DIESEL WAS PUT INTO THE CAR. I ALSO CALLED THE CHEVRON STATION WHERE I PURCHASED THE FUEL TO ASK IF THERE HAD BEEN A MISTAKE OR IF THEY'D HAD OTHER REPORTS OF BAD DIESEL FROM THEIR STATION. THE OWNER OF THE STATION CALLED ME BACK AND LET ME KNOW THAT HE RAN LAB TESTS TO DETERMINE WHETHER OR NOT THEIR WAS CONTAMINATION IN THE FUEL LINES (EITHER FROM GASOLINE OR FROM WATER), AND HE SAID THERE HAD NOT BEEN. CALLED THE VOLKSWAGEN ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND THEY SENT OUT A TOW TRUCK TO COLLECT THE CAR AND TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 3 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE TRAVELING 40 MPH CRASHED INTO THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE SPUN UNCONTROLLABLY AND WAS TURNED AROUND WHERE THE SECOND VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE AGAIN ON THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 23,000.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND EXPERIENCED AN EXTREME LOSS OF POWER AND FLASHING YELLOW CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. AFTER STOPPING THE VEHICLE STALLED AND WOULDN'T RESTART ON MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS. BROUGHT VEHICLE TO DEALER WHO SAYS IT NEEDS THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM REPLACED, DUE TO METAL SHAVINGS IN THE FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM CAUSED BY A BAD HPFP. THE SEAL BETWEEN THE CONNECTORS AND THE DRAIN HOSE FOR THE SUNROOF DRAINS LEAK (THREE OF FOUR CONNECTORS), ALLOWING WATER TO RUN DOWN THE BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE A-PILLARS. THIS RESULTED IN THE AIRBAG AND ITS ASSOCIATED MOUNTS/WIRING AND HARNESS GETTING SOAKED. THE WATER CONTINUED DOWN THE A PILLARS TO COLLECT IN THE FRONT WHEEL WELLS. THE PATH OF THE WATER WAS OVER/THROUGH THE DRIVERS SIDE INTERIOR JUNCTION/FUZE BLOCK. THE REAR DRAINS ALSO LEAK, CAUSING INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTIONS. NOTE THAT THIS LEAK IS NOT DUE TO THE DRAINS BEING BLOCKED. RATHER THE SEALS BETWEEN THE WHITE PLASTIC THAT CONNECTS TO THE DRAIN AND THE BROWN DRAIN HOSE IS NOT COMPLETE. THIS ALLOWS WATER TO DRIP DOWN ONTO THE FRAME. AS MUCH AS 2-3 GALLONS OF WATER COULD ENTER DURING A MILD RAIN STORM. *TR

WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY WANTED $1,000 TO FIX TWO SEAT BELTS IN THE REAR SEAT, CENTER REAR SEAT AND PASSENGER SIDE REAR. AFTER SOME FURTHER RESEARCH ON TRYING TO FIX THEM MYSELF I FIND THEY HAVE AN EXPLOSIVE CHARGE WITHIN THE RETRACTOR AND ONE UNLUCKY INDIVIDUAL LOST PART OF HIS THUMB WHEN IT EXPLODED IN HIS HAND. THERE IS NO WARNING ABOUT THIS EXPLOSIVE DEVICE. THIS FLAP IS EXPERIENCING ABNORMAL FAILURE RATE BETWEEN 25000 AND 70000 MILES. AFTER 6 HOURS, THE SERVICE AGENT AT THE VW DEALER INFORMED THE DRIVER THAT THERE WAS A COMPLETE DESTRUCTION OF THE HIGH PRESSURED FUEL PUMP ALONG WITH THE NEED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM. ERRATIC EGR SIGNAL WAS ALWAYS TRIPPING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, SOME FAULTS BUT NOT ALL ARE EXHAUST GAS RECIRC FLOW INSUFFICIENT DETECTED SPORADIC, CYLINDER 2 INJECTOR N31 OPEN CIRCUIT SPORADIC, EXHAUST AFTERTREATMENT FUEL SUPPLY CONTROL PERFORMANCE SPORADIC, THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL MOTOR CIRCUIT RANGE/PERFORMANCE SPORADIC, NAVIGATION ANTENNA (GPS) SHORT TO EARTH. DEALERS HAVE SPENT OVER 20 THOUSAND DOLLARS PARTS AND LABOR, IN 4 DIFFERENT SHOPS OVER 83 DAYS (OVERNIGHT), OVER 95 INCLUDING READING CODES ONLY. OUT OF WARRANTY EXPENDITURES OVER 1 THOUSAND DOLLARS SO FAR. 69,000 MILES AND THE DEALER TECH HAS NO IDEA HOW TO FIX THIS CAR, HE STARTED OUT SAYING HE HAS NEVER SEEN A CAR HE CAN'T FIX. I HAVE OVER 50 PAGES OF DEALER DOCUMENTED FAULTS AND REPAIRS, REPROGRAMMING ECU, WAS REPLACED THIS YEAR TO SEE IF THAT WOULD FIX PROBLEMS, SOME GONE BUT NOW MAJOR ISSUES LISTED ABOVE ARE HAPPENING. REPLACED DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER 2 TIMES, REPLACED O2 SENSORS, REPLACED EGR SENSORS AND GASKETS 2 TIMES, REPLACE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR, REPLACED PRESSURE SENSOR. ONLY ITEM NOT REPLACED IS THE WIRING HARNESS. *TR
MY 2010 JETTA TDI BROKE DOWN ON ME WHILE I WAS THREE HOURS AWAY FROM MY HOME. THE SERVICE REP. SAID HE HAS HAD A FEW CARS COME IN WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. HE STATED IT WAS DUE TO BAD FUEL OR WATER IN THE FUEL LINE. I KNOW I HAD PUT DIESEL IN WHEN I FILLED UP THAT MORNING. HE STATED WE HAD PROBABLY RECEIVED BAD FUEL WHEN WE HAD FILLED UP. WE WERE ON A ROAD TRIP (8HRS ONE WAY) AND I HAD DRIVEN ABOUT 5 HOURS BEFORE IT DIED!!! WE WERE TRAVELING AT APPROX. 65 MPH WHEN THE FLASHING GLOW PLUG LIGHT INDICATOR BEGAN TO FLASH. THE CAR THEN STARTED TO LOSE ACCELERATION AND WE PULLED OVER WHERE THE ENGINE FINALLY SHUT DOWN AND IT WOULD NOT RESTART. I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE CLOSEST VW DEALER. THEY ARE REPLACING THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW WHAT FUEL STATION HAS GOOD DIESEL? I KNOW THE FAULT WAS NOT MINE. I CAN'T AFFORD TO BE WITHOUT MY CAR AGAIN FOR 2 TO 3 WEEKS. AS SOON AS I GET MY CAR BACK I WILL BE TRADING IT IN EVEN THOUGH I AM UPSIDE DOWN ON MY LOAN. MALFUNCTION INDICATOR, SERVICE ENGINE NOW WARNING, COMPLETE SHUT DOWN. I'VE BEEN THROUGH THIS BEFORE -- 12000 MILES AGO. TOW TO DEALER, WAIT FOR WORD. COVERED UNDER POWERTRAIN WARRANTY THIS TIME -- COMPLETE FUEL SYSTEM REPLACEMENT AGAIN. WAS TOLD THE HPFP INSTALLED THIS TIME WAS A NEW, MORE ROBUST VERSION. THIS TIME DEALER SUGGESTED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO LOW LEVEL OF FUEL IN TANK AND SUGGESTED THAT I NEVER LET THE TANK GET BELOW 1/4. TRIED TO GET SOME ASSURANCE THAT THIS ISSUE WOULD BE COVERED IN THE FUTURE OUTSIDE OF THE STANDARD WARRANTY -- BUT DIDN'T GET ANY. THIS WAS A HIGH-PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE. AT 03:52 ON 060812 I FILLED MY CAR'S TANK WITH 9.4 GALLONS OF DIESEL FUEL AT THE CAMINO PETROLEUM STATION AT EL CAMINO REAL 698, SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA. (MILEAGE: 43375.) NOTE: I HAVE NEVER MIS-FUELLED THIS VEHICLE; I HAVE BEEN A COMMERCIAL MOTOR VEHICLE DRIVER FOR 25 YEARS. AT APPROXIMATELY 08:00, WHILE DRIVING SOUTHBOUND ON CA INTERSTATE 5 AT EXIT #262, THE GLOW PLUG INDICATOR LIGHT BEGAN TO FLASH AND THE ENGINE'S POWER OUTPUT DECREASED. I PULLED INTO THE BUTTON WILLOW (CALIFORNIA) REST STOP, THEN INTO A PARKING STALL WHEREIN THE ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING; IT WOULD NOT START AGAIN. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE FAMILY AUTO GROUP VOLKSWAGEN DEALERS SHOP (IN BAKERSFIELD, CA) WHERE HIGH-PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE WAS DIAGNOSED. I HAVE BEEN INFORMED BY FAMILY AUTO GROUP'S SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE THAT VOLKSWAGEN'S POWER TRAIN WARRANTY WILL COVER THE COST OF REPAIRS. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THE CAR'S ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM (FROM THE FUEL TANK TO THE FUEL INJECTORS) HAS BEEN REPLACED DUE TO SYSTEM-WIDE CONTAMINATION BY METAL PARTICLES FROM THE HIGH-PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. THE COST OF REPAIRS ARISING FROM THIS SORT OF THING IS ESTIMATED TO BE FROM $6,000.00 TO $10,000.00 IN PARTS AND LABOR. *JB
WHEN I STARTED MY CAR, A 2010 JETTA SEDAN TDI, IT STARTED MAKING A STRANGE NOISE, BUT STILL RAN. I TRIED TO DRIVE IT OVER TO THE VOLKSWAGEN DEALER WHICH WAS APPROXIMATELY 2 MILES AWAY. I PULLED OUT ONTO THE HIGHWAY AND ACHIEVED A SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 30MPH. THE CAR CONTINUED TO MAKE THE NOISE AND BEGAN TO LOSE POWER WITHIN A HALF MILE. I PULLED INTO THE PARKING LOT OF A SHOPPING CENTER AT WHICH TIME THE ENGINE DIED AND WOULD NOT RESTART. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE VOLKSWAGEN DEALER, WALLACE IMPORTS OF JOHNSON CITY, TN. IT TOOK THEM APPROXIMATELY 1 1/2 WEEKS TO GET THE PARTS IN AND REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE EXPLAINED TO MY HUSBAND THAT THERE WAS A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP, WHICH RESULTED IN METAL FRAGMENTS CONTAMINATING THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM. AS A RESULT, HE WAS TOLD THAT EVERY PART WHICH CAME IN CONTACT WITH THE FUEL HAD TO BE REPLACED, INCLUDING THE FUEL TANK, FUEL LINES, FILTERS, FUEL INJECTORS, AND MANY OTHERS. THERE WAS A TWO PAGE LIST OF THE PARTS USED TO FIX MY CAR. MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS COULD HAPPEN AGAIN RESULTING IN AN UNSAFE SITUATION. FURTHER, WE ALSO HAVE 2010 JETTA TDI SPORTSWAGEN AND HAVE CONCERNS OF THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS SINCE MY HUSBAND ROUTINELY MAKE ROUND TRIPS OF 230 MILES AT LEAST TWICE A WEEK TRAVELING MAINLY ON THE INTERSTATE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA TDI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROADWAY. THE VEHICLE COASTED TO A STOP AS THE CONTACT MERGED TO THE SHOULDER. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AFTER TWENTY MINUTES, BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT START. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO PRODUCE A FAILURE CODE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIR WAS COVERED BY WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26,079. UPDATED 6/15/12 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE METAL SHAVINGS WHICH ORIGINATED IN THE FUEL TANK MANUFACTURING PROCESS HAD MIGRATED TO THE MAIN LINE AND CAUSED A TOTAL BLOCKAGE OF FUEL SUPPLY TO THE ENGINE AND THIS WAS THE CAUSE OF THE ENTIRE PROBLEM.
