MY HUSBAND LEFT FOR WORK AND GOT ABOUT 1/4 MILE FROM THE HOUSE AND WAS NOT ABLE TO ACCELERATE ABOVE 30 MILES PER HOUR. THE GLOW PLUG LIGHT WAS FLASHING ALONG WITH THE ENGINE LIGHT. MY HUSBAND WENT ABOUT A MILE TOTAL BEFORE RETURNING HOME. HE LET THE CAR SIT FOR ABOUT AN HOUR AND TRIED TO START THE CAR. THE CAR WOULD NOT TURN OVER AND THE GLOW PLUG LIGHT WAS FLASHING BUT NOT THE ENGINE LIGHT (THIS TIME). AFTER SEVERAL MORE ATTEMPT TO START THE CAR IT STARTED BACK UP. HE DECIDE TO DRIVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE WE PURCHASED IT, TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER SHIP IS 30 MILES FROM OUR HOUSE. HE MADE IT ABOUT 20 MILES AND THE CAR DIED WHILE MAKING A TURN AT A STOP LIGHT. THE LIGHT TURNED RED, AS MY HUSBAND WAS STILL TRYING TO START THE CAR. IT WAS STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. I WAS FOLLOWING MY HUSBAND IN ANOTHER CAR AND HAD TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITH MY HAZARDS ON SO CARS WOULD NOT HIT US AND GO AROUND. AFTER SEVERAL TRIES OF STARTING THE CAR HE WAS ABLE TO GET IT STARTED JUST LONG ENOUGH TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CAR DIED AGAIN. AT THIS POINT WE HAD TO PUSH THE CAR TO A PARKING SPOT (DOWN A DEAD END ROAD) AND CALL A TOW TRUCK. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE CAR DEALER SHIP THAT WE PURCHASED THE CAR. IT HAS BEEN AT THE CAR DEALERSHIP OVER A WEEK WITH NO NEWS OTHER THAN THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP IS BAD AND SHRAPNEL HAS GOTTEN INTO THE ENGINE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT A LOW SPEED, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT PREVIOUSLY ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT NEEDED TO BE RESET. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,208. UPDATED 4/30/15*CN UPDATED 05/05/15
CAR RADIO SUDDENLY SHUTOFF WHILE DRIVING AND WOULD NOT TURN BACK ON.TOUCH SCREEN DOES NOT RESPOND. CHECKED FUSES ON ENGINE COMPONENT AND LEFT SIDE PANEL, AND NO FUSES ARE BLOWN. NOW THE PASSENGER HEADLIGHT AND DRIVER'S SIDE TAILLIGHT ARE ALSO OUT, BUT REPLACED WITH NEW ONES THEY STILL DO NOT COME ON. VERY CONCERNED THAT THE ELECTRICAL ISSUES WILL DRAIN THE BATTERY AND THAT THERE IS NO APPARENT CAUSE FOR THIS INCIDENT.I DO NOT SEEING A NEW RADIO AS BEING THE SOLUTION, I REFER TO THIS DISCUSSION HTTP://WWW.CARGURUS.COM/CARS/DISCUSSION-T36009_DS552583 WITH VERY SIMILAR ISSUES TO MINE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, ABOUT 30 MINUTES INTO A 40 MINUTE DRIVE, DRIVING ABOUT 30 MPH, IN 16 DEGREE F WEATHER, MY VEHICLE, A DIESEL WITH A 6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION SUDDENLY STALLED. I WAS ABLE TO ENGAGE THE CLUTCH, GO TO A LOWER GEAR, RELEASE THE CLUTCH AND RE-START THE ENGINE. WITH THE ENGINE BUCKING AND HESITATING, I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE REST OF THE WAY HOME. THE NEXT MORNING, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. I HAD IT TOWED TO A VW REPAIR SHOP WHERE THEY FOUND A COMPLETELY BLOCKED INTERCOOLER, FULL OF ICE. DOING SOME RESEARCH, I HAVE FOUND THAT VW HAS A TSB TO CORRECT INTERCOOLER ICING, WHICH INVOLVES REPLACING THE ORIGINAL FACTORY UNIT WITH A NEW INTERCOOLER DESIGN. AS I LOOKED ON VW FORUMS, I FOUND THAT MANY DRIVERS HAVE HAD SIMILAR UNPREDICTABLE FAILURE DUE TO INTERCOOLER ICING. WHEN I REQUESTED VW CORRECT THIS DESIGN FLAW AT THEIR EXPENSE, THEY REFUSED, CLAIMING THE VEHICLE IS OFF WARRANTY. I WOULD LIKE NHTSA TO LOOK INTO THIS, AS I FEEL VW NEEDS TO EITHER MAKE A SAFETY RECALL, OR CORRECT THE PROBLEM ON ANY CAR ON WHICH IT OCCURS. THIS PROBLEM STRIKES ME AS SIMILAR TO THE RECENT GM IGNITION KEY FAILURE ISSUE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION. *TR

RADIO WAS WORKING PERFECTLY FINE YESTERDAY MORNING ON MY COMMUTE TO WORK. WENT OUT FOR LUNCH. BLACK SCREEN. NO AUDIO. NO BLUETOOTH. I CAN LIVE WITHOUT A RADIO. BUT I CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT HAVING A HANDS FREE OPTION FOR MY PHONE. I AM ON THE PHONE FOR WORK AND TRAVELING OFTEN. WENT TO START AND LOUD CLUNK NOISE & ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER. SEVERAL PIECES IF ICE WERE FOUND IN TURBO INTERCOOLER AREA. IN SHOP NOW. KNOWN DESIGN DEFICIENCY THAT VW NEVER INFORMED US ABOUT. $1800 TO IMPLEMENT TECH BULLETIN WITH NO REIMBURSEMENT FROM VW, THAT IS IF ENGINE IS NOT RUINED. *TR
MY BLUE-TOOTH/RADIO JUST STOPPED WORKING, BLACK SCREEN. I WAS ALSO HAVING BATTERY PROBLEMS AROUND THAT TIME, CAR BATTERY WOULD BE DEAD AT RANDOM TIMES. IT SEEMS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2010 VW.
FUEL LINE #2 FAILED AFTER RECALLED REPAIR ON FUEL LINE #2 WAS PERFORMED. FUEL WAS SPILLING ONTO HOT ENGINE. I THINK THE ORIGINAL RECALL WAS NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER : 11V490000. LOOKS TO ME THAT CAUSE OF FAILURE WAS SAME AS COVERED IN RECALL-VIBRATION FATIGUE.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE GEORGE WASHINGTON BRIDGE FROM NYC TO NEW JERSEY, THE CAR BEGAN TO SLOW, THERE WAS A SLIGHT "BUCKING" OF THE ENGINE, AND WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH (GLOW PLUG MALFUNCTION INDICATOR AND BATTERY MALFUNCTION INDICATOR). I TRIED TO DOWNSHIFT, BUT WAS UNABLE TO ENGAGE GEARS OR CONTROL THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE. THE CAR SLOWED TO A STOP AND I PUT ON MY EMERGENCY FLASHERS. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING, BUT I WAS UNABLE TO ENGAGE THE GEARS TO MAKE IT GO. *TR
AFTER ENTERING STREET, AFTER APPROXIMATELY 1/2 MILE, GLOW LIGHT INDICATOR CAME ON AND DID NOT FLASH, A POP SOUNDED AND THE ENGINE DIED AND COULD NOT BE RESTARTED, VEHICLE WAS TOWED 25 MILES TO DEALERSHIP, WAITING FOR DIAGNOSIS. NO PRIOR WARNING LIGHTS OR INDICATORS THAT THE ENGINE WAS INOPERABLE. HAD A NEW BATTERY AND HAD JUST MADE A TRIP OF 345 MILES TWO DAYS PRIOR. *TR
THE RADIO QUIT WORKING MAKING THE BLUETOOTH HANDS FREE NOT OPERABLE? SAFETY ISSUE AS I NEED THE BLUE FOR TALKING WHILE DRIVING FOR WORK. *TR
I WENT TO DRIVE TO WORK AND TURNED ON MY CAR. NO RADIO. NOTHING. NO POWER TO IT. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. NO BLUETOOTH FOR SAFE AND HANDS FREE DRIVING, NOTHING. CAN'T GET IT FIXED FOR LESS THAN $1000. NOTHING TO EXPLAIN WHAT CAUSES IT. NO BLOWN FUSES NO ANYTHING. NO EXPLANATION WHATSOEVER. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE TOUCHSCREEN RADIO TURNED OFF AND WILL NO LONGER TURN BACK ON. MY PHONE REMAINED CONNECTED TO THE BLUE TOOTH SYSTEM, HOWEVER, I WAS UNABLE TO USE THIS FUNCTION SINCE IT GOES THROUGH THE RADIO AND CAR SPEAKERS. THE NEXT DAY, WHILE DRIVING IN THE RAIN, MY WIPERS STOPPED WORKING AS WELL. THESE ARE MAJOR SAFETY ISSUES (THE LACK OF HANDSFREE FOR SOMEONE THAT COMMUTES EVERY DAY AS WELL AS A VISIBILITY ISSUE WHEN UNABLE TO USE WIPERS IN RAIN). *TR
I AM HAVING A SIMILAR ISSUE WITH MY VEHICLE AS IN NHTSA ID NUMBERS 10660948, 10664166, 10662515 AND 10633219. ALL FOUR OF MY VEHICLE'S DOOR LOCKING MECHANISMS HAVE FAILED. AS A RESULT, THE DOORS CANNOT BE OPENED FROM THE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THIS COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT OR THE NEED TO QUICKLY EVACUATE A PASSENGER FROM THE VEHICLE. *TR
I STARTED THE MORNING OF 12/17/2014 JUST AS I DO EVERY MORNING: WENT OUT TO MY CAR, TURNED THE KEY OVER TO WARM THE GLOW PLUGS, AND STARTED IT UP. AS I PROCEEDED TO PULL OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, I DID NOT NOTICE ANYTHING UNUSUAL. ABOUT 50 FEET DOWN THE ROAD ON A SLIGHT GRADE, MY CAR JUST CUT OFF. THERE WERE NO WARNINGS WHATSOEVER. THE GLOW PLUG LIGHT FLASHED, ALONG WITH A "SERVICE ENGINE" INDICATOR. SINCE I WAS ON A SLIGHT GRADE, I WAS ABLE TO ROLL BACKWARDS AND, WITH STRUGGLE, TURN THE WHEEL AND BACK INTO MY DRIVEWAY. THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE PRIMARILY BECAUSE AT ANY MOMENT SOMEONE COULD HAVE NOT REALIZED I WAS STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND SLAMMED INTO ME. I WAS HONESTLY FRIGHTENED FOR MY SAFETY AND WELL-BEING. THIS IS A WELL KNOWN HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP ISSUE. *TR
THE RADIO AND BLUETOOTH SYSTEM WANT KAPUT UPON STARTING THE CAR ONE MORNING. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT OTHERS HAVE DOCUMENTED ON SOCIAL MEDIA (HTTP://WWW.CARGURUS.COM/CARS/DISCUSSION-T36009_DS552583) AND THAT VW WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE AS A MANUFACTURERS' FLAW. IT'S A $700 FIX FOR MOST CUSTOMERS AND AN ISSUE THAT POTENTIALLY CAUSES SAFETY ISSUES IF NOT ADDRESSED, CONSIDERING THE TIE TO THE HANDS-FREE PHONE SYSTEM. *TR
I WAS DRIVING TO WORK IN MY 2010 VW JETTA SPORTSWAGEN TDI AND WAS IN A MIDDLE OF AN S TURN WHEN MY CAR SHUT OFF, AS I WAS COASTING I TRIED TO RESTART MY CAR, WHEN I DID SO MY STEERING DID NOT WORK. I WAS ABLE TO NEGOTIATE THE S TURN, BUT MY CAR WOULD NOT TURN ON. I HAD IT TOWED TO MY DEALER AND THEY CHECKED IT OUT AND SAID THAT THERE IS WATER IN THE INNER COOLER DUE TO CONDENSATION FROM THE AIR INTAKE. TO ME THIS SOUNDS LIKE A DESIGN FLAW SINCE WHEN I INQUIRED WHAT WILL PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN, THEY RESPONDED THAT THE AIR INTAKE PART HAS BEEN REDESIGNED TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN. THIS WAS A VERY SCARY ORDEAL. IF I DID NOT HAVE MY WITS ABOUT ME I COULD HAVE ENDED IN THE WOODS, LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO NAVIGATE THE S TURN. WHEN I CONTACTED VOLKSWAGEN THEY WHERE WILLING TO PAY 75% OF THE COST EVEN THOUGH I REQUESTED THAT THEY SHOULD COVER THE WHOLE REPAIR. REGARDLESS, I AM CONCERNED WHAT HAPPENED TO ME COULD HAPPEN TO SOMEONE ELSE WITH A LESS FAVORABLE OUTCOME. WHAT IF THIS HAPPEN WHILE CROSSING AN INTERSECTION? I AM HOPING THAT YOU ARE ALREADY RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE FOR A RECALL, IF NOT I HOPE YOU WILL LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE. THANK YOU FOR READING MY COMPLAINT. *TR
VEHICLE LOST POWER IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, 50 MPH SPEED ZONE. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED, LOSS OF TURBO BOOST WITH RESULTANT LACK OF ABILITY TO MAINTAIN SPEED. INTERNET SEARCH SUGGESTS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM INVOLVING ICING AND WATER INGESTION THROUGH THE INTERCOOLER IN COLD WEATHER OPERATIONS. APPARENTLY MAY RESULT IN ENGINE DESTRUCTION. THE SAFETY RAMIFICATIONS ARE OBVIOUS AND IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING VOLKSWAGEN HAS BEEN RELUCTANT TO HONOR POWERTRAIN WARRANTY COVERAGE. MY DEALER QUOTED $1100 TO REPAIR WITH A RETRO-FIT KIT. TO PROTECT THE OWNER'S INVESTMENT AND TO RECTIFY AN OBVIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, I FEEL A RECALL IS IN ORDER. *JS
TRANSMISSION HARD SHIFT. VW IS AWARE OF PROBLEMS WITH VALVE BODY IN ALL THIS TRANSMISSIONS BUT ONLY EXTENDED SOME VEHICLE WARRANTIES. *TR
DOOR LOCKS DON'T WORK REQUIRES REPLACEMENT OF ENTIRE DOOR LOCK MECHANISM ON THREE DOORS (DRIVERS SIDE FRONT, BOTH BACK DOORS). WHEN THE UNLOCK BUTTON IS PRESSED -WHETHER IT'S THE ONE ON THE DOOR OR ON THE KEY FOB- THE LOCKS DO NOT DISENGAGE. SOMETIMES THE FRONT DOOR DOESN'T LOCK, YET THE CAR ALARM IS SET (SO IF YOU TRY TO OPEN THE DOOR AFTER PUSHING THE LOCK BUTTON ON THE FOB, IT OPENS AND THE HORN STARTS BLARING). THE PROBLEM WITH THE BACK DOORS MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO GET A SMALL CHILD OUT OF THE BACK OF THE CAR AS THERE IS NO MANUAL DOOR LOCK MECHANISM ON THE CAR. WOULD BE DANGEROUS IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT OR OTHER INCIDENT REQUIRING THAT THE PASSENGERS EXIT THE VEHICLE. THERE SHOULD BE A MANUAL UNLOCK MECHANISM FOR EACH AND EVERY DOOR. *TR
AIRBAG LIGHT IS ILLUMINATED. VW SERVICE DEPARTMENT NOTES THE AIRBAG SPIRAL SPRING NEEDS TO BE REPLACED COSTING ~$600. IT WOULD SEEM TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE REPLACED BY VW. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2010 JETTA SPORTWAGEN TDI ON A TWO LANE STATE ROAD AT 45MPH. THE CAR WAS FUELED TWO DAYS PRIOR WITH DIESEL (I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND HAVE NEVER MISFUELED) PURCHASED AT THE FORT KNOX ARMY AIR FORCE EXCHANGE SERVICES STATION. THE CAR'S GLOW PLUG CAUTION LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND AN AUDIBLE CHIME SOUNDED AS THE RPM DROPPED TO BETWEEN 1000-1400 AND AN IMMEDIATE DECELERATION OCCURRED IN TRAFFIC. THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN APPROXIMATELY 100 METERS LATER. I HAD TO PUSH THE VEHICLE TO A GAS STATION IN ORDER TO CLEAR THE ROADWAY. VEHICLE WAS TOWED VIA FLATBED TO VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIP FOR TROUBLESHOOTING. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN INFORMED ME THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILED AND SENT METALLIC SHAVINGS/MATERIAL THROUGH MY FUEL SYSTEM AND THAT THE REPAIRS WILL BE VERY COSTLY. RESEARCHING FURTHER REGARDING THE MATERIEL FAILURE REVEALED THAT THERE IS A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM WITH HPFP FAILURES IN MODEL YEAR 2009-2010 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF AND JETTA TDI VEHICLES. AT THIS TIME, I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS COSTLY REPAIR IS GOING TO BE COVERED BY VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA UNDER WARRANTY FOR A FAULTY PUMP. THE FAILURE DID NOT OCCUR DUE TO ANY FAULT OF MY OWN AND I AM THANKFUL THAT IT DID NOT HAPPEN WITH PASSENGERS AT HIGHER SPEED IN MORE TRAFFIC DUE TO THE IMMEDIATE LOSS OF POWER TO MY DRIVETRAIN. *TR
RADIO IS DEAD INCLUDING BLUETOOTH AND HANDS FREE DRIVING. ALL FUSES ARE OKAY, FUSE BOX WAS REPLACED UNDER THE RECALL. *TR
SAFETY ISSUE - STEREO IS NO LONGER FUNCTIONING TAKING WITH IT HANDS FREE BLUETOOTH CAPABILITIES FOR MAKING PHONE CALLS. *TR
DRIVING UP TO PARK MY 2010 VW JETTA WAGON TDI CURBSIDE IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE, I HEARD A LOUD "POP" EMIT FROM SOMEWHERE NEAR THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE TOUCH-SCREEN RADIO IN MY VEHICLE WENT COMPLETELY BLACK. THE RADIO SUPPLIES THE VEHICLE'S BLUE-TOOTH CAPABILITY TO ALLOW DRIVERS TO COMMUNICATE EMERGENCIES, AND THOSE CALLS MUST BE DONE HANDS-FREE (I.E. OVER BLUE TOOTH OR SIMILAR SYSTEM), AS REQUIRED BY LAW IN CALIFORNIA. SINCE THIS INCIDENT THE RADIO (AND SPEAKER SYSTEM) IN THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN NON-FUNCTIONAL. I ASKED MY LOCAL VW DEALER IF THERE WERE ANY OUTSTANDING RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE. THEY INFORMED ME THERE WERE NONE, BUT THE RADIO SPONTANEOUSLY DYING, PARTICULARLY IN THIS MODEL YEAR, HAS BEEN A COMMON COMPLAINT OF VW OWNERS. THIS IS MADE CLEAR BY THE MANY, MANY POSTINGS ON VARIOUS WEB BOARDS. FACTORY INSTALLED DEFECTS IN RADIOS THAT PREVENT DRIVERS FROM COMMUNICATING EMERGENCY NEEDS WHILE ON THE ROAD, AND ALSO PREVENT DRIVERS FROM RECEIVING EMERGENCY NOTIFICATIONS OVER PUBLIC BROADCAST CHANNELS WHILE DRIVING IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN THAT MUST BE ADDRESSED AND REMEDIED BY THE MANUFACTURER IMMEDIATELY. *TR
I ENJOYED THIS CAR FOR THE FIRST YEAR FROM THEN ON NOTHING BUT CONSTANT PROBLEMS. THE DAUL MASS FLYWHEEL, THE DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER #1 AT 98000 MILES WITH A CON ARTIST SERVICE MANAGER AT LAGDON VW IN VERNON CT. TELLING ME I NEEDED ANOTHER ONE 3 WEEKS LATER AND IT WAS MY FAULT AND NOT COVERED WITH VWOA STANDING BY THE DEALER I TOOK THE CAR TO A NON VW REPAIR SHOP AND THEY LAUGHED WHEN I TOLD THEM MY STORY AND HAD THE DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER FIXED IN 10 MINUTES WITH NO CHARGE. THE CAR PASSED STATE EMISSIONS WITH NO PROBLEM. THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP WENT. NOW WITH 6 PAYMENTS LEFT IT NEEDS TOO MUCH TO LIST AND I MAY DEFAULT ON LOAN BECAUSE OF CONSTANT MONEY SPENT ON REPAIRS. THE CREDIT UNION SAYS THEY MAY STOP FINANCING VW TDI'S BECAUSE OF ALL THE COMPLAINTS AND DEFAULTS. *TR
THE SUNROOF DRAINAGE SYSTEM IS FAULTY AND LEAKS INSIDE THE CAR. THIS LED MY MECHANIC TO DISCOVERING THIS IS A WELL KNOWN ISSUE FOR THESE 2010 VOLKSWAGEN TDI'S WHERE THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILS. A KEY FEATURE OF THIS VEHICLE IS THE CAPABILITY FOR HANDS FREE USE OF ON-BOARD COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS WHICH IS MANDATORY IN SEVERAL STATES FOR INCREASED SAFETY WHILE DRIVING. THIS CAPABILITY IS CONTROLLED THROUGH THE FACTORY INSTALLED RADIO SYSTEM AND BLUE TOOTH TECHNOLOGY. WHEN THE OEM RADIO FAILS THE HANDS FREE SAFE COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM FAILS. THIS CAN RESULT IN A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. THE RADIO INSTALLED IN THIS VEHICLE FAILED WITH A PRONOUNCED POP INDICATING AN ELECTRICAL FAULT AND WILL NOT OPERATE. THE RADIO IS WIRED THROUGH OTHER CONNECTIONS IN THE WIRING HARNESS TO THE VEHICLE INFORMATION SYSTEM ABOVE THE STEERING WHEEL WHICH INCLUDES OPERATION DATA INCLUDING MILES PER HOUR AMONG OTHERS. SINCE THIS IS AN APPARENT ELECTRICAL DEFECT AND IS TIED TO OTHER VEHICLE OPERATION SYSTEM INFORMATION IT BECOMES A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. OTHER OWNERS HAVE REPORTED THAT THEIR VEHICLES OF THIS MAKE AND MODEL HAVE EXPERIENCED RELATED PROBLEMS INCLUDING FAILURE TO START AND ENGINE TURNING OFF INTERMITTENTLY. WE FOLLOWED INSTRUCTIONS AND CONSEQUENTLY LESS THEN 1K MILES LATER THERE WAS A LARGE SPARK WITH THE SMELL OF ELECTRICAL FIRE CAUSING THE RADIO TO FLAME OUT AND GO DARK. WE WHERE QUOTED $785 DOLLARS TO REPLACE THE RADIO ON A FOUR YEAR OLD CAR. POSSIBLE ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTION COULD LEAD TO OTHER PROBLEMS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AS USUAL AND MY STEREO WENT OUT. I KNOW A LOT OF TDI OWNERS WITH THE RADIO 1K0 035 180 AC HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE TOO. THE SHEER NUMBER OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE FAULTY TOUCH SCREEN STEREO MAKES THIS MORE THAN JUST A COINCIDENCE. WE WERE DRIVING HOME AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE SERVICED FOR THE 50K CHECKUP, OIL CHANGE, AND RECALL FIX. THE RADIO QUIT WORKING, TAKING OUT ALL STEREO, SPEAKERS, AND BLUETOOTH SYSTEM COMMUNICATION. THE BLUETOOTH IS STILL WORKING IN SOME CONTEXT AS THE PHONE IS NOW PICKED UP BY THE VEHICLE WHEN A CALL COMES THROUGH BUT IT MUST BE MANUALLY CHANGED TO THE PHONE SPEAKERS, AS IT TRIES TO ROUTE IT THROUGH THE CAR. THIS HAPPENED LESS THAN 20 MILES AFTER LEAVING THE GARAGE. *TR
PURCHASED A 2010 JETTA SPORTWAGEN TDI IN 2012. PRE-CERTIFIED 2 YEARS OR 24000 MILES. HAD THE ROUTINE MAINTENANCE DONE AS REQUIRED AND SUGGESTED. AUGUST 2014, I PAID $600 TO HAVE THE ROUTINE MAINTENANCE DONE. SEPTEMBER 2014, MY CAR IS DEAD. AS I WAS DRIVING UP A HILL AT 55 MPH MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I LOST POWER. WASN'T SURE I WAS GOING TO MAKE IT HOME. LUCKILY I DID. HIGH PRESSURE PUMP WENT BAD, METAL SHAVINGS FOUND, CLEARLY A DESIGN / ENGINEERING ISSUE. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL ISSUES WITH THIS ON THE INTERNET. WAS SLOWING TO MAKE LEFT HAND TURN, HEARD A POP AND THE RADIO WENT DEAD. FUSE IS FINE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH ON HIGHWAY 95 IN NEEDLES CALIFORNIA THE GLOW PLUG LIGHT CAME ON AND BEGAN TO FLASH. CRUISE CONTROL DISABLED AND THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DECREASE. NO POWER COULD BE FELT WHEN PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THE ENGINE RPM BEGAN TO FALL. VEHICLE WAS PLACED INTO NEUTRAL AND COASTED TO SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER COMPLETE SHUTDOWN THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART, UNABLE TO DRIVE. HAD VEHICLE TOWED BY AAA TO THE NEAREST VW DEALER IN HENDERSON NEVADA AND PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE (HPFP). FUEL PUMP WAS DAMAGED AND METAL DEBRIS FROM THE PUMP WAS SENT INTO THE FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM AND RETURNED TO THE FUEL TANK. ALL FUEL RELATED PARTS WILL REQUIRE REPLACEMENT AND/OR CLEANING TO REMOVE DEBRIS. THE VEHICLE REQUIRED PARTS THAT TOOK APPROX 3 DAYS TO OBTAIN AND ADDITIONAL DAYS TO COMPLETE THE REPAIR. *TR
ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK I WAS CRUISING DOWN AT THE INTERSTATE WITH THE CAR ON CRUISE CONTROL. EVERYTHING WAS FINE THE FIRST 45 MINUTES OF DRIVING THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY GLOWPLUG LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND STARTED FLASHING MEANING ENGINE MALFUNCTION. MY VEHICLE STARTED LOSING SPEED ALL OF A SUDDEN ON THE INTERSTATE WHICH COULD HAVE EASILY CAUSED A CRASH. I CANNOT BE BLAMED FOR THE FAILURE OF A FUEL PUMP ON A CAR WITH 40000 MILES.I NEVER ALLOW THE TANK TO GO BELOW 1/4 OF A TANK. TWO MILES LATER THE CAR QUIT RUNNING WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP WHO CALLED AND SAID THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP - HPFP - HAD EXPERIENCED A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE AND METAL WAS PRESENT IN THE FUEL SYSTEM. A DAY LATER VW AGREED TO REPAIR THE CAR EVEN THOUGH WELL OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD. EARLY IN THE LIFE OF THE CAR, THE FUEL PUMP LOCATED UNDER THE PARKING BRAKE HANDLE FAILED. AFTER THE FIRST FUEL PUMP FAILURE A FUEL INJECTOR FAILED, FOLLOWED BY 2 MORE FUEL INJECTOR FAILURES. THE HPFP FAILURE WAS THE FINAL FAILURE IN THE FUEL SYSTEM. *TR
THE TOUCHSCREEN RADIO (MODEL RCD-510, MANUFACTURED BY DELPHI AND UTILIZED IN VARIOUS 2010-2011 MODEL VWS) HAD FAILED COMPLETELY. IT IS ACTING AS IF NO POWER IS GOING TO THE UNIT. ALL FUSES WERE CHECKED AND THEY ARE FUNCTIONAL. ALL BLUETOOTH AND HANDS-FREE CAPABILITIES, WHICH WERE BUILT INTO THE STEREO SYSTEM, NO LONGER FUNCTION. ANY USE OF A PHONE WHILE DRIVING REQUIRES THE USE OF HANDS, WHICH IS ILLEGAL IN MANY STATES THROUGHOUT THE US. OTHERWISE, PULLING OFF OF THE ROAD TO PLACE/RECEIVE PHONE CALLS PUTS THE DRIVER AT INCREASED RISK OF BEING STRUCK. *TR
