WE BOUGHT A NEW CAR ONE MONTH AGO. OUR TWO PRIORITIES WERE:SAFETY AND ENOUGH ROOM FOR OUR BABY. ONE DAY I TOOK THE CAR TO GO WITH MY BABY TO THE DOCTOR'S OFFICE. I CHECKED THE BASE OF THE CAR SEAT AND I NOTICED THAT IT WAS LOOSE. I AM NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO PULL THE STRAPS (WE WERE USING THE "LATCH ON" SYSTEM) AND I TRIED TO USE THE SAFETY BELT (OF THE MIDDLE REAR SEAT). IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO LOCK UP THIS BELT BECAUSE IT DOES NOT WORK LIKE THE OTHERS. YOU PULL OUT THE BELT AND WILL NEVER BE LOCKED UP. SOMETIMES YOU HAVE THE FEELING THAT IT IS LOCKED BUT, AFTER A DOUBLE CHECK, IT IS NOT . THIS COULD BE A VERY SERIOUS RISK IF YOU PLACE YOUR BABY'S CAR SEAT OR A PERSON IS SETTING THERE. BECAUSE, IN CASE OF A CAR ACCIDENT, THE BELT WILL NOT HOLD PROPERLY THE PERSON OR THE BABY'S CAR SEAT. IN BOTH CASES THE PERSON COULD BE EJECTED. *TR

I'D LIKE TO ADD MY VEHICLE TO THIS INVESTIGATION #: PE11023 - AFTER READING ABOUT THIS STORY TODAY - I CHECK THE ENGINE BAY AND FOUND POOLING LIQUID ABOVE THE #1/2 INJECTORS ON MY '11 JETTA SPORTWAGEN TDI WITH ONLY 850 MILES. OUR 2011 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA TDI DEVELOPED AN ENGINE OIL LEAK. WHEN WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THE SERVICE MANAGER REFUSED TO LET US DRIVE IT DUE TO THE POSSIBILITY OF AN ENGINE FIRE. PER THE SERVICE MANGER THE OIL LEAK WAS CAUSING AN ATOMIZATION OF THE ENGINE OIL THAT COULD HAVE REACHED HEATED PARTS OF THE ENGINE OR EXHAUST AND CAUSED AN OIL FIRE. *TR
THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL SYSTEM IS LEAKING FROM ONE OF THE FUEL INJECTORS. THERE IS CURRENTLY AN INVESTIGATION GOING ON THAT WAS BROUGHT MY ATTENTION TO SEE IF I HAD THE PROBLEM. AND IT LOOKS AS IF I DO.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WE STARTED TO SMELL DIESEL FUEL. WHEN WE STOPPED WE NOTICED FUEL DRIPPING FROM THE CAR. VOLKSWAGEN WAS CONTACTED TO COME TOW THE CAR TO THE NEAREST DEALER. BEFORE THEY WOULD TOW THE CAR THEY REQUESTED THAT I HAVE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT COME OUT AND CERTIFY THE CAR SAFE TO TOW. ONCE THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM THEY STATED ONE OF MY O RINGS HAD WEEKEND CAUSING A #2 INJECTOR LINE LEAK. THEY REPLACED THE PART, CLEANED UP THE CAR AND RETURNED IT TO ME.
2011 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA SPORTSWAGON TDI. CAR STALLED IN TRAFFIC AND WOULD NOT RESTART. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION AS THERE WERE CARS FOLLOWING BEHIND AS CAR STOPPED WITHOUT WARNING. ALSO, DURING THE STALL CAR LOST POWER STEERING AND WAS DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER TO SITE OF STREET. CAR WOULD NOT RE-START AND HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED. CAR WAS NEARLY NEW (JUST OVER 2 MONTHS AND HAD LESS THAN 3,000 MILES). *TR
IN RUSH-HOUR TRAFFIC IN BOSTON THE DRIVER'S FOOT WAS ON THE ACCELERATOR WHEN THE CAR STOPPED MOVING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. LUCKILY, THE AMBULANCE AND POLICE ARRIVED PROMPTLY AND WERE ABLE TO GET THE CAR OFF THE ROAD. THEN IT WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST VW DEALERSHIP. THE CARS DIAGNOSIS WAS A FUEL PUMP COLLAPSE. THIS WAS HARD TO BELIEVE SEEING AS WE HAVE ONLY OWNED THIS BRAND-NEW CAR FOR ONE MONTH.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 10 MPH WHEN THE POWER STEERING MALFUNCTIONED AND THE BRAKES FAILED. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE AND HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP. THE BATTERY WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST DID NOT LOCATE A FAILURE AND THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE FOR TWENTY FIVE MILES BEFORE BEING ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,800.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED THE CONTACT WAS REMOVING AN ITEM FROM THE TRUNK WHEN SHE WAS BURNED ON THE CALF OF HER LEFT LEG BY THE MUFFLER. THE CONTACT STATED THE MUFFLER WAS EXTENDED OUTWARD TOO FAR CAUSING HER TO COME IN CONTACT WITH IT. THE CONTACT HAD TO GO TO THE DOCTOR FOR THE BURN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,000.
WHILE ENTERING FREEWAY HAVE TO DEPRESS ACCELERATOR PEDDLE 1/4 TO 3/4 OF THE WAY DOWN BEFORE ACCELERATION BEGINS. FROM STOP AND MERGING INTO TRAFFIC HAVE TO DEPRESS ACCELERATOR 1/4 TO 3/4 OF THE WAY DOWN BEFORE ACCELERATION. ENTERING FREEWAY OR FAST STARTS, ACCELERATES THEN DIES OFF THEN GOES AGAIN. ON HILL STARTS IT SOMETIMES ROLLS BACK AS IF IT IS IN NEUTRAL. THESE ARE INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS AT VARYING DEGREES OF SEVERITY . *TR
VOLKSWAGEN JETTA SEDAN DSG TDI 2011. VEHICLE AS MADE HAS A TWO SECOND HOLD FOR KEEPING THE CAR FROM ROLLING BACKWARDS ON INCLINES. HOWEVER THE CAR OWNERS MANUAL REQUIRES A SLOW ACCELERATION WHICH ALLOWS THE CAR TO ROLL BACKWARDS RISKING HITTING THE CAR OR PEDESTRIAN BEHIND YOU ESPECIALLY IN DRIVEWAYS WITH INCLINES ENDANGERING SMALL CHILDREN BECAUSE OF VISIBILITY. THE ONLY WAY TO OVERCOME THIS SAFETY DEFECT IS TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO HOLD VEHICLE UNTIL RPMS INCREASE ENOUGH TO ENGAGE THE TRANSMISSION. THE FRONT AND REAR WINDSHIELDS HAVE A BLUR, THE FRONT WINDSHIELD EXTENDS FROM THE BOTTOM TO APPROXIMATELY SIX INCHES UP THE GLASS AND THE REAR GLASS HAS DISTORTION THROUGHOUT. THIS CAUSES EYE STRAIN, WATERING, AND HEADACHE WHEN SUBJECTED TO FOR AN HOUR OR MORE OF TRAVEL AND IS ESPECIALLY BAD IN BRIGHT SUNLIGHT CAUSING AN UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITION. DEALER ADMITTED DISTORTION BUT REFUSED TO REPAIR ALONG WITH MANUFACTURER. THE CAR STALLS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO MOVE FORWARD FROM A STOP RESULTING IN AN EXTREMELY UNSAFE VEHICLE WHEN TRYING TO CROSS LANES OF TRAFFIC. THE CAR WILL NOT REACH ITS MAXIMUM RPM AS INDICATED IT SHOULD DO BY OWNERS MANUAL FOR PASSING OR MERGING INTO TRAFFIC RESULTING IN UNSAFE VEHICLE OPERATION IN MULTIPLE INSTANCES. THE DEALER ACTUALLY MADE THIS WORSE THEN WOULD NOT CORRECT. THE VEHICLE ALSO DOES NOT HAVE PARKING LIGHTS AS REQUIRED BY SOME STATE STATUES AND SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN CERTIFIED FOR SALE IN THE USA. *TR
TRAVELLING UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS ON INTERSTATE 95 MY TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON SIGNALING LOW TIRE PRESSURE. I IMMEDIATELY REDUCED SPEED AND MOVED OVER TO THE RIGHT LANE TO MONITOR ANY CHANGE IN PRESSURE OR CONTROL. THE LIGHT STAYED ON FOR APPROX. 3 MILES WITHOUT ANY SIGNAL OF LOW PRESSURE AT WHICH TIME THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE BLEW OUT. I WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE CAR AND PULL OFF THE HIGHWAY WITHIN 30-40 FEET AFTER BLOWOUT. THE TIRE ITSELF WAS COMPLETELY SEPARATED FROM THE RIM AND WAS 100% TORN FROM AT THE BELT SEAM ON THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR. THE TIRE IN QUESTION WAS A CONTINENTAL CONTIPRO CONTACT 225. VW WOULD NOT ADMIT DEFECT AFTER THEIR REVIEW ALTHOUGH MECHANICS AT MERCHANTS AND "OFF THE RECORD REVIEW" BY VW ADMITTED IT LOOKS LIKE A DEFECT. AT THE 10K SERVICE CHANGE AT VW, THE CAR WAS INSPECTED AND THE TIRES WERE APPROVED WITH SUFFICIENT TREAD NOTED.
2011 VOLKSWAGEN TDI WAGON DOES NOT START WITH ANY ORIGINAL KEYS BASED ON THE MESSAGE THE 'IMMOBILIZER ACTIVATED'. I AM AFRAID THIS SYSTEM COULD SHUT DOWN MY CAR IN BAD SITUATION FOR NO REASON. I THINK THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. I THINK BASED ON MY RESEARCH MANY OTHER OWNERS COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS ISSUE. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS. *TT
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HAS EXTREME HESITATION WHEN ACCELERATING FROM SLOW SPEED SUCH AS MERGING WITH TRAFFIC. DEALER SAYS THIS IS NORMAL AND FINDS NO FAULT WITH THE POWER TRAIN. WHEN ACCELERATING THE CAR WILL VITALLY STALL WITH ZERO FORWARD MOVEMENT, THEN IT WILL FINALLY ENGAGE AND LUNGE THE CAR FORWARD VERY ABRUPTLY. HAVE HAD THREE VERY CLOSE CALLS AND THIS WILL RESULT IN ACCIDENTS IN THE FUTURE. *TR
LETTER TO ADMINISTRATOR FROM REGARDING A PROBLEM WITH HIS 2011 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA SEL. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED 13 DAYS AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER, BUT THE PROBLEM WAS NOT RESOLVED. THE CONSUMER WENT TO ANOTHER VW WHO HAS BEEN HANDLING THE PROBLEM EVER SINCE. THE CONSUMER STATED HE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER FOUR TIMES IN ORDER TO RESOLVE THE ONGOING PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED THAT VOLKSWAGEN WRITE OFF THE VEHICLE AS A DEFECTIVE, UNSAFE VEHICLE; SINCE THE PROBLEM WAS IN THE FUEL SYSTEM (CODE PO456) EVAP LEAK.
THE SECOND CYLINDER OF THE FUEL INJECTED DIESEL ENGINE BEGAN TO LEAK THE DIESEL FUEL INJECTED. THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE CAR AND THE RIGHT SIDED PANELS WERE COVERED WITH DIESEL FUEL. THE ENGINE LOST POWER AND AT SLOWER SPEEDS FUEL BEGAN TO POOL UNDER THE CAR.
2011 VW JETTA SPORTWAGEN TDI SURGING AT TIMES AND SPUTTERING. ONLY 1000 MILES AND HAVE HAD FOR 2 WEEKS. THE CONTROLLABILITY AT THAT SURGING MOMENT SEEMS OFF AND IF IT'S DOING THAT WHILE I NEED TO AVOID SOMETHING OR SOMEONE IT COULD BE DANGEROUS. ALSO SURGING OR BUCKING WHILE YOU STOP. RECIPE FOR A REAR END COLLISION. THIS IS A 6SPD AUTOMATIC AND IT FEELS LIKE A WEIRD DOWNSHIFT AS YOU COME TO A STOP. FINALLY WINDOW NOW DECIDES TO GO DOWN ON IT'S OWN THIS COULD BE AN ISSUE AT THE WRONG TIME IN A RAIN OR SNOW STORM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE JERKED AND DECELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER WHERE UNKNOWN REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 15,000.
AT 500 MILES EXACTLY, I HEARD A SINGLE CLICK WHILE DRIVING. A QUICK SCAN OF THE INSTRUMENTS SHOWED THAT THE ODOMETER READ 500 MILES AND WAS NOT INCREASING, OF COURSE THE TRIP ODOMETER AND FUEL CONSUMPTION DISPLAYS ALSO FAILED WITHOUT ANY INPUT FROM THE ODOMETER. DEALER DIAGNOSED PROBLEM AND SAID THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED HOWEVER THERE WERE NONE IN STOCK AND VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA DOES NOT HAVE ANY REPLACEMENTS. EITHER. THE VEHICLE RUNS PERFECTLY SO FAR BUT READING THROUGH OTHER COMPLAINTS AT NHTSA I'M CONCERNED ABOUT TAKING A PLANNED 1200 MILE TRIP NOT KNOWING WHETHER A CATASTROPHIC ELECTRICAL FAILURE MIGHT LEAVE ME STRANDED. THE DEALER SAID VOLKSWAGEN HAS NO IDEA WHEN THE UNITS WILL BE AVAILABLE. IT COULD BE MONTHS AND IT'S NOT CLEAR IF THE REPLACEMENT WILL SOLVE THE PROBLEM OR HOW LONG IT WILL LAST.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN, BUT THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 18,800.
TRAVELING 30 MPH. BATTERY LIGHT LUMINATED AND ENGINE STALLED. PULLED OVER AND RESTARTED ENGINE AND IT STARTED FINE BATTERY LIGHT TURNED OFF. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED A RELAY. ONE WEEK LATER DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 75MPH ENGINE STALLED AGAIN IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. STARTED RIGHT BACK. DROVE ANOTHER 10 MILES AND IT SHUT OFF AGAIN. STARTED UP AND DROVE IT RIGHT TO THE DEALER. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON NOW. THE 2011 JETTA WAS ISSUED A RECALL, AND THAT REPAIR WAS DONE A MONTH AGO. *KB
MY VW JETTA TDI SPORTWAGEN WAS OPERATING NORMALLY ON THE MORNING OF THE INCIDENT, BUT WHEN I WENT TO THE GARAGE TO START IT THAT AFTERNOON, THE DISPLAY READ "IMMOBILIZER ACTIVE" AND "SAFE". THE CAR WOULD START FOR ABOUT 1 SECOND THEN DIE. EVIDENTLY, THE BUILT IN ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM HAD DECIDED THAT MY KEYS (I TRIED BOTH SETS OF KEYS, PLUS THE VALET KEY) DID NOT BELONG TO THE VEHICLE. IT HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE THEY PERFORMED A REBOOT OF THE COMPUTER TO CLEAR THE PROBLEM. THEY CITED A POSSIBLE CAUSE AS BEING THE RECENT ELECTRICAL STORMS IN OUR AREA. I PERSONALLY THINK THEY SHOULD BE ASHAMED TO OFFER SUCH A LAME EXCUSE BECAUSE SURELY THEY HAVE ELECTRICAL STORMS IN VWS HOME COUNTRY OF GERMANY, TOO. I HOPE THIS IS THE LAST TIME THIS PROBLEM OCCURS, BUT I HAVE READ OTHER SUCH INCIDENTS WITH THE SAME YEAR AND MODEL. *TR
I AM HAVING WHAT I BELIEVE TO BE A SERIOUS, BUT INTERMITTENT, SAFETY PROBLEM WITH MY 2011 JETTA SPORTWAGON TDI. THERE IS ALSO WHAT MAY BE A RELATED ISSUE WITH THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTING AT LOW SPEED. OCCASIONALLY WHEN I ATTEMPT TO ACCELERATE AWAY FROM A STOP SIGN/TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE ENGINE DOES NOT RESPOND TO THROTTLE MOVEMENT. WHEN I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND PRESS ON THE GAS PEDAL THE CAR MOVES AHEAD UNDER WHAT I BELIEVE IS IDLE POWER BUT AS I TRY TO ACCELERATE, IT IS LIKE THE GAS PEDAL IS NOT CONNECTED TO THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE IS RUNNING BUT WON'T REV AND MOVE THE CAR. I USUALLY END UP ABOUT A THIRD OF THE WAY INTO THE INTERSECTION WITH A CAR THAT IS SEEMINGLY STALLED (ENGINE STILL RUNNING HOWEVER). THE CAR BEHIND ME THEN HAS TO BRAKE AND IF I HAPPENED TO BE TRYING TO CUT INTO MOVING TRAFFIC, I AM NOW A TARGET FOR THE CROSS TRAFFIC. I REPORTED THIS TO SELLING DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT EARLY IN MY OWNERSHIP EXPERIENCE OF THIS CAR AND WAS TOLD DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT, THAT IS NORMAL, IT'S A TRANSMISSION THING. PERHAPS THERE IS A LINK TO THE TRANSMISSION AND AS I MENTIONED EARLIER, THIS IS A PROBLEM AREA AS WELL. WHEN DRIVING SLOWLY, AROUND 20-25 MILES PER HOUR, THE TRANSMISSION CAN'T SEEM TO DECIDE WHAT GEAR IT SHOULD BE IN. IT KEEPS BOUNCING BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN GEARS CAUSING A VERY UNCOMFORTABLE SURGING. THE SURGING PART I CAN WORK AROUND BY SHIFTING TO SPORT MODE. THIS MODE MIGHT ALSO HELP THE ACCELERATION PROBLEM BUT I DON'T HAVE GOOD EXPERIENCE YET TO CONFIRM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH THE BATTERY LAMP ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED TO FILE A REPORT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 558.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE SAN MATEO BRIDGE AT APPROX 65 MPH, WHILE ON THE BRIDGE MY TPM ALARM CAME ON THEN IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE BACKEND OF THE CAR STARTED TO SWERVE. I PULLED OVER ASAP AND AS I CAME TO A STOP THE TREAD PORTION OF MY REAR TIRE CAME BOUNCING PAST ME. AFTER GETTING OUT OF THE CAR, I SAW MY CAR SITTING ON THE RIM. LATER INSPECTION OF THE TIRE AND SIDEWALLS SHOWED NO OTHER DAMAGE EXCEPT THAT THE TIRE APPEARED TO COME APART RIGHT ALONG THE EDGE OF THE TIRE WHERE THE TREAD MEETS THE SIDEWALL. IN COMPARISON TO THE OTHER TIRES, THE STYLE OR MODEL OF TIRE HAS A SIDEWALL GROOVE IN THE MOLD. IT APPEARS THAT THE TIRE FAILED ALONG THIS GROOVE ON BOTH SIDES OF THE TIRE. NO OTHER PUNCTURE MARKS OR OTHER SIDEWALL TRAUMA WAS PRESENT. ALONG THIS SAME GROOVE ON THE OTHER TIRES, THE RUBBER APPEARS TO HAVE IMPERFECTIONS, LITTLE BUBBLES AND VOIDS IN THE RUBBER THAT APPEAR AS IF THE RUBBER DID NOT FULLY FILL THE MOLD FOR THE TIRE. I STILL HAVE THE TIRE AND SIDEWALLS FOR INSPECTION & PICTURES THAT CAN ME EMAILED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT WAS TRAVELING 25 MPH WHEN THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A WALL AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DASHBOARD LIGHTS FOUND IN THE SPEEDOMETER AND TACHOMETER WILL TURN ON AND OFF RANDOMLY WHEN THE HEAD LIGHTS ARE TURNED OFF. THIS MAKES READING THE DASHBOARD DIFFICULT. THE TURANZA EL400 02 TIRES CAME STANDARD ON MY NEW 2011 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE TIRES HAVE A VIBRATION AT 40-40 MPH. DEALER SAYS IT IS THE TIRES. THE VIBRATION GETS BETTER WITH DRIVING, BUT NEVER COMPLETELY GOES AWAY. VIBRATION IS AT ITS WORST AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN SITTING FOR SEVERAL HOURS TOOK THE CAR TOTHE DEALER ON 2 SEPARATE SERVICE CALLS, THEY RE BALANCED AND ROTATED THE TIRES FOR ME. THIS WAS NO HELP TOOK THE CAR TO FIRESTONE TO NO AVAIL, THE MANAGER SAYS THAT THERE'S NO WAY THERE CAN BE A VIBRATION FROM THE TIRE AT THAT SPEED. I ASSURE YOU THERE IS. UPON ACCELERATION THE VEHICLE HAD A TENDENCY TO STALL OR WHEN ACCELERATING TO PASS. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING SCENARIO, HOWEVER IT DOES NOT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME. WE HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES, AND WERE TOLD THAT THEIR MACHINE DOES NOT SHOW ANY DEFECTIVE PARTS. WHAT IS FRUSTRATING IS WHEN YOU WANT TO BLEND INTO TRAFFIC THE CAR MIGHT STALL, SO YOU HAVE TO BE EXTRA CAREFUL THAT THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN. I HAVE TO PUMP ON THE PEDAL TO GET THE CAR GOING AGAIN. WHILE ON AN OUT OF STATE ROAD TRIP. WE STOPPED AT A FUEL STATION AND SMELLED A REALLY STRONG DIESEL SMELL. THINKING THERE WAS JUST DIESEL SPILL AT THE FUEL STATION WE CONTINUED ON OUR WAY ON THE INTERSTATE. APPROX. 30 MILES LATER DOWN THE INTERSTATE OUR GLOW PLUG LIGHT STARTED TO BLINK, WHICH INDICATED A PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE. WE WENT TO THE NEAREST EXIT AND STOPPED THE CAR. WHEN WE GOT OUT THE DIESEL SMELL WAS EVEN STRONGER. SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE HOOD AND DIESEL WAS HEAVILY DRIPPING FROM THE WHOLE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP IN OREGON. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME IT WAS A #2 FUEL INJECTOR LEAK AND THAT VOLKSWAGEN WANTS THEM (THE DEALERSHIP IN OREGON) REMOVE THE ENTIRE ENGINE AND SEND IT TO GERMANY FOR EXAMINATION ON A TEST STAND. THREE WEEKS AFTER THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE OREGON DEALERSHIP THEY CALLED ME AND INFORMED ME I COULD COME GET IT. I DROVE BACK TO OREGON TO GET THE CAR AND IT STILL SMELLED EXTREMELY STRONG OF DIESEL AND THE EXTERIOR WAS STILL COVERED IN THE DIESEL THAT LEAKED FROM THE ENGINE. I ASKED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO CHANGE THE FIBER ENGINE COVER. THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NO REASON TO DO THAT AND WOULD HAVE TO GET THAT APPROVED. I DROVE THE CAR BACK HOME TO CALIFORNIA AND THEN CALLED VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA TO GET MY CAR FIXED RIGHT. THEY HAD ME BRING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT IT FROM IN ROSEVILLE, CA. ROSEVILLE VOLKSWAGEN SERVICE WORKER IDENTIFIED THE CAR HAVE A STRONG DIESEL SMELL JUST WALKING NEAR THE CAR. THEY WROTE ON THE SERVICE TICKET THAT THEY FOUND THE FIBER ENGINE COVER "SOAKED WITH DIESEL FUEL. ROSEVILLE VOLKSWAGEN HAD THE CAR FOR NINE MORE DAYS TO CLEAN AND DETAIL THE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE CAR.

WE PURCHASED A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA TDI THAT BROKE DOWN WITH ONLY 3081 MILES. NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON; IT JUST STALLED OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROADWAY (WITHOUT WARNING) AND WOULDN'T START BACK UP. IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A SEVERE ACCIDENT! WE PAID AN ADDITIONAL THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS WHEN WE PURCHASED THE CAR FOR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY (BUMPER TO BUMPER), BUT THE REPAIR ISN'T COVERED (OR THE TOW BILL). WE UNKNOWINGLY PURCHASED FUEL THAT HAD WATER IN IT AND THE VOLKSWAGEN DEALER WILL NOT PAY FOR ANYTHING. THEY HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM! THE REPAIR WILL COST OVER $6,000.00 AND VOLKSWAGEN'S CORPORATE OFFICE IS UNWILLING TO HELP EVEN THOUGH VOLKSWAGEN FAILED TO PUT A SIMPLE SENSOR IN THE FUEL FILTER SYSTEM TO INDICATE THAT WATER WAS IS IN THE FUEL. EVERY OTHER MAJOR DIESEL ENGINE MANUFACTURER IN THE WORLD HAS A LIGHT IN THE DASH THAT INDICATES WATER IS IN THE FUEL SO THAT YOU CAN SIMPLY DRAIN THE WATER OUT BEFORE IT CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO SUDDENLY STOP RUNNING AND EXCESSIVE DAMAGE THE ENGINE. VOLKSWAGEN CHOSE TO USE A HIGH PRESSURE COMMON RAIL DIESEL FUEL SYSTEM SIMILAR TO WHAT THEIR COMPETITORS HAVE; THIS FUEL SYSTEM IS VERY SENSITIVE AND IS EASILY DAMAGED BY WATER. VOLKSWAGEN OVERLOOKED THE OBVIOUS AND FAILED TO PUT ANY TYPE OF WATER IN FUEL WARNING DEVICE ON THEIR VEHICLES EVEN THOUGH THE REST OF THE WORLD HAS BEEN USING THEM FOR YEARS AND EVEN DECADES. FORD, GM, CHEVROLET, DODGE, AND MERCEDES ALL HAVE WATER IN FUEL WARNING LIGHTS (ONE EVEN HAS A BELL THAT CHIMES FIVE TIMES TO WARN THE DRIVER THAT WATER IS IN THE FUEL. VOLKSWAGEN DIDN'T BOTHER PUTTING ANY TYPE OF PROTECTION ON THEIR EXTREMELY SENSITIVE FUEL SYSTEM. ALSO, VOLKSWAGEN SAYS THERE IS NO WAY TO KEEP IT FROM HAPPENING AGAIN! THIS 2011 VW SPORTWAGEN TDI (DIESEL)WOULD EASILY STALL IN FIRST GEAR. SINCE THE FIRST TEST DRIVE WE WERE TOLD AT THE DEALERSHIP, THIS MANUAL TRANSMISSION TAKES GETTING USED TO. I HAVE A FRIEND WHO OWNS A 2011 GOLF TDI WITH A SIMILAR ISSUE. HOWEVER, EVEN THOUGH I BECAME MORE ACCUSTOMED TO DRIVING IT, I WOULD STILL STALL IN FIRST GEAR...SOMETIMES IN INTERSECTIONS. I MENTIONED THIS TO THE SERVICE ADVISOR, DURING SEVERAL SERVICE VISITS AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS JUST THE WAY THESE CARS ARE. EVERY TIME A SERVICE ADVISOR WOULD TEST DRIVE MY CAR THEY'D STALL IT. THEY NEVER LOOKED INTO IT. AT 89,000 THE DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL HAD TO BE REPLACED. AT THIS POINT THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I WENT TO AND INDEPENDENT MECHANIC (THAT I TRUSTED)AND ASKED HIM TO NOT ONLY REPLACE THE DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL, BUT THE CLUTCH PLATE AND THROW OUT BEARING AS WELL. HE SAID THE CLUTCH PLATE AND THROW OUT BEARING LOOKED FINE. I SAID SINCE WE HAVE THIS APART I DON'T WANT TO TAKE ANY CHANCES. SINCE REPLACING THE PARTS WITH ORIGINAL VW PARTS IT DRIVES LIKE A NORMAL MANUAL TRANSMISSION CAR SHOULD...I NO LONGER STALL THIS CAR IN 1ST GEAR. ONE CAN CHECK ON LINE AND SEE OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS. BESIDES THE EXPENSE IT IS ALSO DANGEROUS. I'M SURPRISED THERE ISN'T A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. ON SEPTEMBER 19TH I SPOKE TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AT FLYNN VW, AND ASKED HIS ADVICE ABOUT DEALING WITH VW AND HE REITERATED THAT THE MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS ON THE DIESELS (TDI) WERE LIKE THAT. HE STATED HE STILL STALLS WHEN DRIVING THE DIESEL VWS. HOWEVER HE SAID THE GAS ENGINES DIDN'T SEEM TO STALL LIKE THE DIESELS. *TR
UPON PICKING UP MY CHILD FROM DAYCARE TODAY, I INSPECTED HER CARSEAT. I FOUND THE "SUPERLATCH" LATCH STRAP WAS VISIBLY LOOSE. I CHECKED FOR MOVEMENT AT THE BELT PATH AND FOUND APPROX 2" OF MOVEMENT. I IMMEDIATELY TIGHTENED IT DOWN AND CHECKED FOR MOVEMENT AGAIN. THERE WAS NO MOVEMENT. I PUT MY CHILD IN HER SEAT AND ADJUSTED THE HARNESS. I THEN PUT MY OTHER CHILD IN HIS CARSEAT. AFTERWARDS, I CHECKED THE BELTPATH OF MY DAUGHTER'S RADIAN XTSL AGAIN. BY THIS POINT THERE WAS ABT 0.5" MOVEMENT (STILL AN ACCEPTABLE INSTALL, BUT LOOSER THAN IT HAD BEEN LESS THAN 2 MINUTES EARLIER). I TIGHTENED IT DOWN AGAIN AND DROVE MY CHILDREN HOME (ABT 4 MILES OR 10 MINUTES). UPON ARRIVING HOME, I NOTICED THAT THE SL LATCH STRAP WAS VISIBLY LOOSE AGAIN. WHEN I CHECKED IT AT THE BELT PATH, THERE WAS ABT 1.5" MOVEMENT (MORE THAN THE 1" OF AN "ACCEPTABLE" INSTALL). SINCE I DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING THE LOOSENING, NOR HOW TO STOP IT FROM HAPPENING, I HAVE REINSTALLED THE CARSEAT USING MY VEHICLE'S SEATBELT. I WILL NOT RISK MY CHILD'S LIFE BY USING THE SEAT IMPROPERLY INSTALLED. THERE'S A FUEL LEAK COMING FROM THE TOP OF THE (TDI) ENGINE THAT I CAN CONFIRM, BUT I WAS UNABLE TO SEE EXACTLY FROM WHAT PART. IT'S LEAKING ABOUT A THIRD TO A HALF CUP OF FUEL PER MIN. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER. WAITING FOR RESULTS. *TR
ON FRIDAY, APRIL 15TH AT APPROX 10:30PM I WAS DRIVING MY 2011 VW JETTA TDI (WITH LESS THAN 1800 MILES ON IT) ON THE HIGHWAY APPROX 2 1/2 HOURS FROM HOME AND IT STALLED. I COASTED OFF TO THE SHOULDER AND WAS NOT ABLE TO RESTART THE ENGINE. AFTER NEARLY 2 HOURS THE TOW TRUCK ARRIVED THAT VW ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE SENT AND THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP WHICH WAS ABOUT 60 MILES AWAY FROM THE BREAKDOWN POINT. I HAD TO SPEND THE NIGHT IN A HOTEL IN A STRANGE AREA. ON MONDAY, APRIL 18TH THE DEALERSHIP STATED AN OUTSTANDING ELECTRICAL RECALL WAS THE PROBLEM. THEY CHANGED A WIRE HARNESS AND SOME FUSES AND THE CAR WAS READY FOR PICK UP. I DROVE 100 MILES TO RETRIEVE MY CAR ON APRIL 18TH. TODAY ON APRIL 19TH AFTER SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY OVERNIGHT THE CAR WOULD NOT START AGAIN AND WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST VW DEALERSHIP IN MY HOME TOWN. STILL WAITING FOR WAITING FOR A DIAGNOSIS. THE DEALERSHIP STATES THEY ONLY HAVE 1 VW TECHNICIAN AND HE IS ON VACATION THROUGH FRIDAY APRIL 22ND. *TR
