ON MAY 14, 2012 WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON CALIFORNIA I-15 NORTH. I WAS STUCK IN TRAFFIC AROUND THE TAMECULA AREA, AND TRAVELING 15-20 MPH TO DUE TO THE TRAFFIC. I STOPPED MY VEHICLE BECAUSE TRAFFIC STOPPED. TRAFFIC BEGAN TO MOVE ONCE AGAIN, I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR AND MY VEHICLE BEGAN TO MOVE ONCE AGAIN. WHEN I REACHED 15 - 20 MPH, MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY STARTED TO LOSE POWER AND SLOW DOWN. I RECEIVE A ORANGE BLINKING AMBER LIGHT ON MY DASH CONSOLE. I DOWN SHIFT, AND PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR ONCE AGAIN AND VEHICLE PRODUCED LITTLE POWER. I REFERENCED THE BLINKING ORANGE AMBER LIGHT IN OWNER'S MANUAL AND THE MANUAL STATED THE LIGHT MEANT "ENGINE MALFUNCTION" AND TO CONTACT DEALER IMMEDIATELY. I AS PROCEED ON I-15 NORTH, WHEN I HAD TO TRAVEL UP A HILL, THE VEHICLE BEGIN TO DECELERATE EVEN IF I DOWN SHIFT. THE NEXT MORNING MAY 15, 2012 I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIP TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. LATER THAT AFTER NOON, I WAS CONTACTED BY THE DEALERSHIP STATING THE FUEL SENSOR HAD GONE BAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE FUEL SENSOR AND I PICKED UP THE VEHICLE ON THURSDAY MAY 17, 2012. ON FRIDAY MAY 18, 2012 I DROVE THE VEHICLE TO WORK. ON THE WAY HOME, AROUND THE SAME AREA ON THE I-15 NORTH TAMECULA CITY LIMITS. AGAIN MY VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME MALFUNCTION AS BEFORE, LOST OF POWER, LOST OF ACCELERATION, AND BLINKING ORANGE AMBER LIGHT. I STOPPED THE VEHICLE TURNED IT OFF AND BACK ONE I PROCEEDED TO GO, AND 20 MILES LATER RECEIVED THE BLINKING ORANGE AMBER "ENGINE MALFUNCTION" LIGHT AND "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP ON THE MAY 19, 2012 AND LATER THAT DAY WAS TOLD THE FUEL SENSOR AND FUEL PUMP HAD GO BAD. IT IS MAY 29, 2012 AND THE DEALERSHIP STILL HAS THE VEHICLE. DEALERSHIP UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM, AND HOW TO FIX VEHICLE. VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW IN AUGUST 2011. *TR
MY 2011 VW JETTAS HIGH PRESSURE FUEL SYSTEM STOPPED WORKING AND THE CAR WILL NOT START. THE DEALER SAID THAT IS WAS CAUSED BY THE FUEL. THE REPAIRS ARE WELL OVER $8000. I UNDERSTAND THAT NHTSA IS LOOKING INTO THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE IT HAS HAPPENED TO SO MANY OTHER VW DIESEL JETTA CARS. I HAVE NOW TALKED TO OVER 15 PEOPLE IN MY AREA THAT HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM. I OWN NUMEROUS OTHER DIESEL TRUCKS THAT FILL UP AT THE SAME FILLING STATION AND HAVE NOT HAD THIS PROBLEM. PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT A RECALL SO THIS IS COVERED BY VW. I CAN SEE IF THIS PROBLEMS WAS JUST A FEW CARS, BUT THE TDI WEB SITE LISTS THOUSANDS OF CARS THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO. *JS
COMING BACK FROM THE MALL, I TURNED ON MY CAR AND A FEW SECONDS LATER THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN AND "IMMOBLIZER ACTIVE" MESSAGE APPEARED. RESTARTED CAR AGAIN, ENGINE SHUT DOWN AND THE SAME MESSAGE APPEARED AGAIN. I TRIED IT A COUPLE OF TIMES MORE AND THEN CALLED VW ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TO GET MY CAR TOWED TO MY DEALER, WHICH LUCKILY, IS NEAR BY THE MALL I WAS AT. ONCE AT THE DEALER (GOT THERE AT 4:30PM, AND THEY CLOSE AT 5 ON SATURDAYS), THE TECHNICIAN HAD TIME TO LOOK AT MY CAR. HE CAME BACK 15 MINUTES LATER AND WAS SURPRISED OF WHAT HE FOUND. THE DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE COULD NOT READ THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE. HE SAID THAT PRETTY MUCH ACCORDING TO THE TEST, THE ECM/ECU DID NOT EXIST! I HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR ABOUT 8 MONTHS (BRAND NEW) AND ONLY APROX. 9500 MILES DRIVEN SO FAR. THEY WILL CHECK THE CAR IN DETAIL ON THE FOLLOWING MONDAY. WILL WAIT FOR RESULTS. *TR
CAR IS A 2011 VW JETTA TDI. I WAS TOLD BY THE VW DEALER THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP HAD FALLEN APART CAUSING METAL TO GO THROUGH THE FUEL SYSTEM.I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW IN JULY OF 2011.VOLKWAGEN IS REPLACING THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM BUT I AM CONCERNED THAT DAMAGE MAY HAVE ALREADY BEEN DONE TO THE ENGINE. *JS
WITH LITTLE OR NO WARNING, ENGINE STALLED IN BUSY INTERSECTION DURING EVENING RUSH HOUR. LUCKILY CAR COST INTO ADJACENT PARKING LOT. HAD CAR TOWED TO LOCAL VW DEALER WHO SAID TOTAL FUEL SYSTEM HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE. REPAIR TOOK SEVERAL WEEKS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE JERKED AND DECELERATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,000. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT PULLED IN THE HIS GARAGE, HE PUSHED THE START/STOP IGNITION BUTTON TO TURN OFF THE CAR, AND THEN PUSHED THE REMOTE BUTTON FOR HIS GARAGE DOOR TO CLOSE. HE OPENED HIS HOUSE DOOR AND SOON BECAME DISTRACTED AND INADVERTENTLY EXITED THE VEHICLE WITHOUT PUTTING IT IN PARK. MOMENTS LATER, THE VEHICLE ROLLED OUT OF THE GARAGE, BEFORE IF FULLY CLOSED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 16,000. UPDATED 6/12/12 *CN
I WAS OPERATING THE CAR ON A HIGHWAY WHEN THE CAR LOST ALL POWER IN TRAFFIC. I WAS LUCKY THAT I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT A SERIOUS INCIDENT OCCURRING. I WAS A BIT SHAKEN AS THE CAR JUST TOTALLY FAILED IN TRAFFIC. THE CAUSE ACCORDING TO THE DEALER IS CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE INJECTOR PUMP (DIESEL). DEALER INFORMED ME THAT THE INJECTOR PUMP, INJECTORS, INJECTOR LINES, PRIMARY FUEL LINES, PRIMARY FUEL PUMP, AND THE FUEL TANK ALL HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THE INJECTOR PUMP TOTALLY CAME APART AND DISTRIBUTED METAL THROUGHOUT THE FUEL SYSTEM. THIS CAR HAS LESS THAN 21K ON IT. DEALER ADMITTED THAT THE INJECTOR PUMPS ARE OF QUESTIONABLE QUALITY AND THERE IS A HISTORY OF FAILURE DUE TO INFERIOR PARTS IN THE PUMPS. DEALER SAID THAT THE NEW PUMP IS UPGRADED AND AFTER THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM IS REPLACED THE CAR WILL BE TROUBLE FREE. DEALER ALSO NOTED THAT THE FUEL PUMPS ARE DESIGNED TO OPERATE ON EUROPEAN DIESEL WHICH CONTAINS SULFUR FOR LUBRICITY. US DIESEL WHICH HAS LOW SULFUR IS DESTROYING THE PUMPS. SEEMS AS THOUGH A TOTAL RECALL SHOULD BE ORDERED TO REMOVE THESE BAD INJECTOR PUMPS. DEALER STATED THE TOTAL COST OF THE WORK IN EXCESS OF 10K WHICH WILL BE PAID BY VW AT NO COST TO ME. *TR
FILLED UP WITH 13.455 GALLONS OF #2 ULSD DIESEL ON 01/25/12 WITH 11,363 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. PRIOR TO FILLING THE VEHICLE HAD LESS THAN A 1/4 TANK OF DIESEL. ON 02/05/12 WAS TRAVELING IN VEHICLE AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH AND STARTED TO HEAR PINGING NOISES FROM THE ENGINE BAY. SLOWED TO A STOP WHERE THE ENGINE DIED AND REFUSED TO START. THE VEHICLE HAD 11,721 MILES ON IT, 358 MILES (90% WHICH WERE HIGHWAY MILES) SINCE THE PREVIOUS FUELING. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO LOCAL VW DEALER WHERE I WAS TOLD THE TANK WAS DRY AND HPFP HAD FAILED AS A RESULT. CONTESTED THE FACT THAT THE TANK WAS DRY GIVEN THE FACT THE VEHICLE HAD SLIGHTLY LESS THAN 1/4 TANK PRIOR TO THE FAILURE AND THAT IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE THAT IT HAD RUN DRY GIVEN THE FACT THAT THE TANK HAD BEEN FILLED TO THE TOP AT THE PRIOR FILLING AND THAT I HAD NOT DRIVEN ENOUGH DISTANCE TO HAVE USED UP THE FUEL. VW TECH CONFIRMED THAT THE GAS GAUGE WAS OPERATIONAL AND CORRECT. VW DEALER REPLACED HPFP UNDER WARRANTY BUT WOULD NOT LISTEN TO ME WITH REGARDS TO RUNNING THE TANK DRY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE'S HORN AND RADIO DID NOT FUNCTION, THERE WAS A BURNING ODOR, AND THE WINDOWS FUNCTIONED INDEPENDENTLY. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE FELT AS IF IT WOULD LOSE POWER, THE AIR BAGS WERE NOT FUNCTIONING, AND THE EXTERIOR LIGHTS WERE MALFUNCTIONING. THE EPC AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER MALFUNCTION WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 93,000.
APPROXIMATELY A YEAR AGO, MY ENGINE BEGAN TO GIVE A CLEAR SENSE OF THE CAR SHUDDERING OR ROCKING BACK AND FORTH. WHILE SOMETIMES THE FEELING WOULD OCCUR EVEN WHEN STOPPED AT A LIGHT, THE VAST MAJORITY OF THE TIME THIS OCCURRED WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT CONSISTENT LOW SPEEDS. IN ALMOST ALL CASES, I WAS ATTEMPTING TO MAINTAIN A CONSISTENT SPEED AROUND EITHER 13PMH OR 30 MPH. EVENTUALLY, I FOUND THE ROCKING MOTION VERY EASY TO REPRODUCE. I'D SET THE CAR TO 30 MPH VIA CRUISE CONTROL AND DRIVE DOWN A STRAIGHT ROAD WITH VERY SLIGHT UPWARD AND DOWNWARD SLOPES. WHILE IT HAPPENS EVEN ON FLAT GROUND, I FOUND THAT A SLIGHT DECLINE IS MOST LIKELY TO REPRODUCE THE FEELING. MY BEST GUESS IS THAT THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT THE WAY THE FUEL SUPPLY SYSTEM/TRANSMISSION IS TRYING TO DETERMINE WHETHER OR NOT DIESEL NEEDS TO BE SUPPLIED TO THE ENGINE. THE FUEL SUPPLY SYSTEM SEEMS TO ALMOST CUT OUT BECAUSE GIVING DIESEL WOULD PRODUCE A SPEED TOO HIGH, AND THEN IT COMES BACK ON SUDDENLY, BECAUSE GIVING IT NO DIESEL WOULD CAUSE THE CAR TO SLOW TOO MUCH. WHILE SOMETIMES THIS IS SIMPLY A NUISANCE, I HAVE HAD ON MANY OCCASIONS FELT THAT IT WAS A GENUINE SAFETY HAZARD SINCE I COULDN'T PREDICT HOW THE ENGINE WOULD REACT. THIS IN COMBINATION WITH OVERLY STRONG ENGINE BREAK WHEN LETTING OFF OF THE ACCELERATOR AND DELAYED ACCELERATION WHEN STEPPING ON THE PEDDLE THAT CAN CAUSE INCONSISTENCIES AND SAFETY HAZARDS WHEN MANEUVERING IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY. I'VE MENTIONED THIS PROBLEM EVERY SINGLE TIME I'VE TAKEN MY CAR IN FOR IT'S REGULARLY SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. THE VEHICLE HAS A DIESEL DSG ENGINE, AND AS I'VE BEEN TOLD BY SERVICE TECHNICIANS AND REPRESENTATIVES, SOME OF THE THINGS LIKE STRONG ENGINE BREAKING ARE ASSOCIATED WITH THIS TYPE OF ENGINE. HOWEVER, THE CAR'S ROCKING MOTION CERTAINLY GOES BEYOND ANYTHING THAT COULD REALISTICALLY BE CONSIDERED NORMAL AND SAFE. *TR
ATTEMPTED TO START 2011 JETTA TDI WITH 11000 MILES AFTER IT HAD BEEN SITTING IN A PARKING LOT FOR 9 HOURS. TEMPERATURE 45F OUTSIDE. VEHICLE STARTED PERFECTLY AND THEN DIED SECONDS LATER. ATTEMPTED TO START VEHICLE AGAIN, BUT WOULD NOT TURN OVER. HAD A LOT OF TROUBLE GETTING IT TO START AND WHEN IT DID IT WAS RUNNING VERY ROUGH AND THEN WOULD DIE IMMEDIATELY. FINALLY ABLE TO START VEHICLE AND KEEP IT RUNNING AFTER APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES. WAS ABLE TO DRIVE 30+ MILES HOME - STARTED FINE AFTER. THIS IS THE SECOND OCCURRENCE. THIS FIRST OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 1 MONTH AGO WITH 8000 MILES ON VEHICLE. OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS IN MID FORTIES. CAR WOULD NOT START AT ALL - KEPT TURNING OVER, BUT WOULD NOT START. GLOW PLUG LIGHT FLASHED INTERMITTENTLY. AFTER WAITING APPROXIMATELY 45 MINUTES TO 1 HOUR THE CAR STARTED UP FINE WITHOUT HESITATION. VEHICLE WAS AT DEALER 2 DAYS PRIOR TO SECOND INCIDENT, BUT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING. VEHICLE WILL BE RETURNING TO DEALER ASAP. *TR
AS I'M DRIVING ALONG THE INTERSTATE GOING 60 MPH MY TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT COMES ON A MILE LATER THE STEERING WHEEL JERKS OUT OF MY HAND AND I CAN HEAR THE TIRE FLAPPING. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE WITHOUT AN ACCIDENT. I TAKE THE TIRE TO THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR FIVE MONTHS (AUGUST) AGO AND THEY SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO BUT SELL ME ANOTHER TIRE. THE DEALER ALSO REFUSED TO GIVE ME THE NUMBER TO CONTACT CONTINENTAL DIRECTLY ABOUT THE TIRE. SO FAR NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE ABOUT THE TIRE. *TR
THE CAR MADE LOUD KNOCKING NOISES AND STOPPED. THE SERVICE ADVISOR FIRST SAID THERE WAS AN IGNITION IN THE FUEL PUMP, THEN 10 DAYS LATER HE SAID IT WAS FUEL PUMP FAILURE. ALL DIESEL FUEL I PURCHASED FOR THE CAR WAS PURCHASED AT PMM MOBIL, 26393 VERMONT AVE., HARBOR CITY CA., 90710. I HAD JUST FILLED UP WITH FUEL 10 MILES EARLIER AND I WAS 1/2 BLOCK AWAY FROM MY HOME WHEN THE CAR FAILED, I COULD HAVE BEEN ANYWHERE! THE SAME SERVICE ADVISER GAVE NO SUGGESTIONS TO HELP PREVENT ANOTHER FAILURE, LEAVING ME TO RELY ON THE INFORMATION ON THE INTERNET TO KEEP THE CAR RUNNING. *TR
THIS CAR STALLS OUT AS IT SLOWS DOWN. IT DOES NOT CHANGE TO A LOWER GEAR IN TIME WHEN DECELERATING AND STALLS OUT. IT WILL NOT STALL OUT EVERY TIME I SLOW DOWN. I NEVER KNOW WHEN IT WILL STALL. IT'S VERY RANDOM AND I HAVE STALLED OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSECTIONS AND ANY SITUATION SLOWING DOWN. I BROUGHT THIS CAR BACK TO THE DEAL TWICE AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. I PLEADED WITH THEM THAT THE CAR IS DANGEROUS BUT THEY SENT ME PACKING. I AM WRITING THIS BECAUSE I DO NOT WANT THEM TO RESELL THIS CAR TO SOMEONE, THE CAR STALLS OUT AND THEY GET INJURED. FOR FOUR YEAR, I HAVE HAD TO DRIVE THIS CAR USING EITHER THE MANUAL SHIFT, OR PUT IT INTO NEUTRAL WHEN SLOWING DOWN. I AM RETURNING THE CAR TODAY. PLEASE DON'T LET THEM RESELL THIS CAR. ALSO, SOMETIMES THE CAR WILL NOT SHIFT INTO 6TH GEAR. THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW WILL NOT STAY UP. I WILL ROLL IT UP AND IT WILL AUTOMATICALLY ROOM DOWN LIKE SOMETHING IS OBSTRUCTING IT. *TR
THIS IS A RE-OCCURRENCE OF THE COMPLAINT 10425920 THAT WAS SUBMITTED BY ME ON 17 SEPTEMBER AND IS LISTED ON THIS SITE. IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN. SYMPTOMATICALLY IT IS THE SAME. WHILE TRYING TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE VEHICLE THE KEY FOB WOULDN'T OPEN THE DOORS. AFTER GAINING ENTRY TO THE VEHICLE ALL LOCKS ARE INOPERATIVE AND THE FUSE IS BLOWN. THE INITIAL ISSUE WAS WORKED ON BY MY LOCAL VW DEALER BUT DUE TO THE ODD NATURE OF THE ISSUE VW TECH WAS CONSULTED. THE SYSTEM FUSE WILL ONLY BLOW IF I TRY TO GAIN ENTRY TO THE CAR WITH THE KEY FOBS. IF A NEW FUSE IS INSTALLED AND THE SENSORS ON THE ACTUAL DOOR HANDLES ARE USED THE FUSE WILL NOT BLOW. THE DEALER HAD THE CAR FOR A WEEK AND VW WAS INDECISIVE ABOUT WHAT TO DO. VW ADVISED THE DEALERSHIP TO JUMP OUT THE FUSE AND RETURN THE VEHICLE TO ME (AND THEY DID!) UNTIL THEY COULD FIGURE OUT THE WAY AHEAD. I WAS ASKED TO RETURN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER A FEW WEEKS LATER AND A COMPLETE REPLACEMENT CENTRAL LOCKING CONTROL UNIT WAS INSTALLED. I AM RETURNING THE CAR TO THE DEALER FOR ANOTHER ATTEMPT AT SOLVING THE PROBLEM. I AM QUITE SURE THAT VW SHOULDN'T BE ADVISING DEALERSHIPS TO JUMP OUT FUSES AND RETURN VEHICLES TO CUSTOMERS FOR USE. BEYOND THE TECHNICAL ISSUE VW TECHLINES BEHAVIOR IS ALARMING AND IT WOULD BE WORTH ASKING TO SEE THE DIALOG FILES FOR MY ISSUE. I WILL ADVISE REGARDING THE OUTCOME OF THIS NEXT VISIT. *TR

THE A BLINKING GLOW PLUG LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR WENT INTO LIMP MODE (NO POWER) ON THE HIGHWAY AT HIGH SPEEDS. (FWIW - A BABY + PREGNANT WIFE DRIVING). ABLE TO REPRODUCE AFTERWARDS - PRESSING A HARD THROTTLE/ACCELERATING WOULD DISABLE THE VEHICLE INTO LIMP MODE. REPORT CAME BACK THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM - HPFP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. A BRAND NEW VEHICLE SHOULD NOT HAVE A FAILURE LIKE THIS FROM JUST FILLING UP THE TANK THE PREVIOUS DAY. WE HAVE KEPT ALL RECEIPTS, LOGGED MILES AND HAD THE STATE DEPT SHUT DOWN THE STATION AND PULL A FULL LAB REPORT ON THE FUEL. EVERYTHING CHECK OUT OK BY THE STATE STANDARDS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT HAVE THE VIBRATION DAMPER ISOLATIONS INSTALLED IN THE FUEL INJECTION LINES. ON 9/9/2011 WHILE DRIVING ON CA 91 FWY, I STARTED NOTICING ABNORMAL DROP IN THE FUEL TANK, BY MONITORING MY DASHBOARD, AT THE TIME I HAD HALF TANK OF FUEL. I STOPPED THE CAR ON A SAFE LOCATION, AND DISCOVERED A FUEL LEAKAGE UNDERNEATH THE TRUNK. THE FUEL WAS COMPLETELY DRAINED, AND I HAD TO CALL FOR VOLKSWAGEN ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE TO TOW THE VEHICLE TO THE NEAREST DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A VOLKSWAGEN DEALER IN GARDEN GROVE, CA. THE DEALER INVESTIGATED IT THE PROBLEM, AND ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO PROBABLE ASSEMBLY LINE FAULT. THE DEALER ORDERED NEW PARTS, AND FIXED THE PROBLEM, UNFORTUNATELY, THE FUEL SMELL STILL EXIST, BUT I CAN'T SEE LEAKAGE. *KB
THIS CAR HAS AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. IT'S A JETTA TDI. IF YOU STOP ON A SHARP INCLINE THE CAR WILL ROLL BACKWARDS WHEN YOU TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE AND PUSH THE GAS PEDAL. I'VE TRIED PUSHING THE GAS PEDAL BEFORE LETTING OFF THE BRAKE BUT IT STILL ROLLS BACKWARD. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND EXPLAINED THAT I AM AFRAID I WILL ROLL BACKWARD INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE OF EVEN A PEDESTRIAN. THE DEALER SAID ROLLING BACKWARD IS NORMAL FOR THIS CAR. VEHICLE LOST POWER ABOVE 1000 RPM WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY. AFTER COASTING TO A SAFE LOCATION, FOUND ENGINE COMPARTMENT SOAKED WITH FUEL. VEHICLE HAD LEFT A TRAIL OF FUEL BEHIND IT. VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY DEALER: FUEL LINE FROM THE COMMON RAIL TO INJECTOR #2 WAS REPLACED. *TR
I KNOW THIS SOUNDS RIDICULOUS BUT I'VE DRIVEN ON MANY ROAD TRIPS AND THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED UNTIL THIS VEHICLE, AND IT'S PAINFUL. BUT HERE IT IS: LEATHER-WRAPPED STEERING WHEEL CAUSES CALLUSES AT A HIGHLY UNUSUAL RATE ON LONGER DRIVES. (I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DRIVE FOR 12 HOURS ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS WITHOUT ISSUE. AFTER DRIVING ONLY THREE AND A HALF HOURS STEADILY, MY HANDS HURT ALL OVER.) IT'S IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THE LEATHER ISN'T CAUSING THIS - THE STITCHING ON THE INSIDE IS FAR TOO RAISED UP ON THE INSIDE PART AROUND THE ENTIRE 'WHEEL' OF THE STEERING WHEEL. IT IS ALSO RIGHT BEHIND THE LEFT AND RIGHT 'HANDLES' WHERE YOU CAN HOLD THE WHEEL, SO ANYWHERE YOU HOLD IT, YOU BASICALLY ARE ADVERSELY AFFECTED. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IF IT'S NOT COMFORTABLE AT ALL TO HOLD THE STEERING WHEEL, DRIVERS MAY BE INCLINED TO HOLD THE WHEEL MORE LOOSELY OR HOLD THE WHEEL EVEN LESS/LET GO WHEN THEY BELIEVE IT IS "SAFE" ... WHICH MAY LEAD TO CRASHES, INJURY, OR DEATH, DUE TO DEVELOPING PAIN IN THE HANDS/FINGERS BECAUSE OF THE WAY THIS STEERING WHEEL HAS BEEN DESIGNED. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL HOSE FRACTURED AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL HOSE WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 21,015.
EVENT LEADING TO FAILURE: SUNNY MID-DAY, DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY I HEARD A SOUND AS IF MY TIRE HAD BURST, AND MOMENTARILY LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. DID NOT CRASH. FAILURE AND DETAILS: ONCE I HALTED THE CAR, I INSPECTED MY PASSENGER-SIDE FRONT TIRE, AND THOUGH IT WAS FLAT, THERE WERE NO SIGNS OF RUPTURE OR PERFORATION. I PROCEEDED TO CHANGE IT, AND, HAVING REMOVED IT, I NOTICED A CRACK IN THE INNER LUMEN. THE CRACK WAS AN ARC OF APPROXIMATELY 6 INCHES. ACTION TO CORRECT THE FAILURE: A SPARE TIRE WAS SET IN PLACE AND THE CAR HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER. FURTHER DETAILS: DEALER CLAIMS THAT THE DAMAGE WAS USER INDUCED, BUT I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND THERE WERE NO BUMPS, DEBRIS, NOR DID I CRASH. I FEAR THIS COULD HAPPEN TO OTHERS. I HAD PREVIOUSLY TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE LOW TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT WAS ON, BUT I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NORMAL AND THAT THE SENSOR HAD TO BE REST. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY 2011 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA TDI SPORTWAGON ON INTERSTATE 94 IN MICHIGAN I OBSERVED WHITE SMOKE COMING OFF MY VEHICLE ENGINE. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT. DUE TO THE HEAVY SMOKE AND DIESEL FUMES I PULLED THE VEHICLE TO SAFE LOCATION AND SOUGHT SERVICE. THE VEHICLE DEVELOPED A HEAVY LEAK IN ONE OF THE FUEL INJECTION LINES ON TOP OF THE ENGINE BLOCK. THE VEHICLE WAS COVERED WITH DIESEL FUEL FROM FRONT TO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY VOLKSWAGEN. *TR
DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE I CAME TO THE END OF SOME SCARIFIED PAVEMENT. WHEN I WENT ACROSS THE END OF THE SCARIFIED PAVEMENT, THE RIGHT SIDE AIRBAGS WENT OFF. THE DEALER INSPECTS UNDER THE CAR AND FINDS A SMALL SCRATCH ON THE TRAILING ARM MOUNT AND SAYS THE CAR WAS BOTTOMED. ONLY PROBLEM IS THE SCRATCH IS NOT ON THE BOTTOM OF THE MOUNT AND IS EVEN ABOVE THE PARKING BRAKE CABLE WHICH ROUTES BENEATH THE MOUNT. THE PARKING BRAKE CABLE DOES NOT HAVE ANY DAMAGE OR SCRATCHES ON IT. ALSO, WHY WOULDN?T THE FRONT AIRBAGS GO OFF INSTEAD OF THE SIDE? IF THE CAR HAD BOTTOMED ON THE PAVEMENT OR ON THE LIP OF THE PAVEMENT WHERE THE SCARIFIED PAVEMENT ENDED, THE MARK ON THE TRAILING ARM MOUNT WOULD HAVE DAMAGE FROM THE INITIAL POINT OF CONTACT AND SCRAPE ALONG THE LEADING EDGE OF THE MOUNT UNTIL WHATEVER HIT IT HAD CLEARED UNDER THE MOUNT AND IT WOULD HAVE LOOKED A LOT WORSE. ANYWAY THE DEALER WANTS $4000 TO FIX THE AIRBAGS, NOT INCLUDING A NEW SEAT COVER SINCE THEY DON?T MANUFACTURE IT ANYMORE. IF YOU WANT A PICTURE OF THE IMPACT MARK LET ME KNOW. IT?S VERY MINISCULE. ALSO, AFTER THE AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT, THERE WERE NOT ANY TIRE, RIM, OR ALIGNMENT PROBLEMS. IN COMPARISON, IN MY 1997 GOLF, MY SON HIT A BAD POTHOLE LAST SPRING THAT POPPED THE TIRE, BENT THE ALLOY RIM, AND WHACKED THE ALIGNMENT BUT THE AIRBAG DID NOT GO OFF.
