TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE KEY FOB FAILED TO LOCK AND UNLOCK THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR IN COLD TEMPERATURES WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ENTER OR EXIT THE VEHICLE THROUGHOUT OUT THE WINTER MONTHS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,618.
DRIVER SIDE DOOR SEALS ALLOWS WATER TO ENTER DOOR AND ONTO LATCH WHICH CAUSING THE LATCHING MECHANISM TO FREEZE SHUT. THE FREEZING OF THE DOOR INHIBITS THE DRIVER FROM BEING ABLE TO EXIT THE CAR IN AN EMERGENCY OF CAR TRAVELS FROM A WET ENVIRONMENT TO BELOW FREEZING ENVIRONMENT. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWO TIMES IN THE PAST 2 MONTHS WHERE TEMPERATURES WERE IN THE UPPER 30'S THEN FELL BELOW FREEZING. ONCE WHEN THE CAR WAS IN MOTION ALSO. WHEN THE CAR IS STATIONARY, ONE HAS TO ENTER THE CAR FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE, IF THE DOOR UNLOCKS AND OPENS, TO ENTER AND EXIT THE CAR. ON ONCE OCCASION, I WAS ABLE TO FORCE OPEN THE DOOR BY PULLING THE INSIDE HANDLE AND SHOVING UP AGAINST IT. IT IS KNOWN AND SHARED ON THE VW FORUMS THAT IF YOU PULL THE HANDLE TOO HARD, IT WILL STRETCH A CABLE WHICH MAY RENDER THE DOOR UNABLE TO SHUT OR NOT PROPERLY LATCH. VW IS AWARE OF THIS AS THEY HAVE A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN TSB #TT-57-14-01 FOR IT HOWEVER, THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE AS IT CAN STOP THE DRIVER FROM EXITING THE CAR IN AN EMERGENCY.
TAKATA RECALL.
BATTERY CABLES ARE REVERSED SO THE RED POSITIVE AND BLACK NEGATIVE CABLES ARE NOT ACCURATE. BATTERY HOOKED UP WRONG AND SPARKED, SMOKED, HORN BLASTS. NOW NO AC DOESNT WORK AND BATTERY LIGHT STAYS LIGHT. HAPPENED WHEN BATTERY WAS CHANGED
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT ALSO NOTICED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE HORN FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN COIL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,000.
IN COLD WEATHER, WHEN DEPRESSED, THE CLUTCH PEDAL MAKES A LOUD CLICKING SOUND. ANNOYING, BUT DOESN'T SEEM TO BE SAFETY-THREATENING.
THE REAR BREAK CALIPER EXPLODED WITH ONLY 52,000 MILES WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD WITH TWO SMALL KIDS IN THE BACK SEAT. THE BRAKES BECAME UNUSABLE, AS THE FLUID WAS SPILLING OUT AND WE COASTED TO A STOP.
TAKATA RECALL - I HAVE CONTACTED MY LOCAL VW DEALER SEVERAL TIMES (AT LEAST 3) TO INQUIRE ABOUT REPAIRING THE VEHICLE, BUT THEY SAID THEY HAVE REPEATEDLY SAID THEY DON'T HAVE THE NECESSARY PARTS / AIRBAGS TO REMEDIATE THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE RUNS FINE. I HAVE ALSO FILED A CLAIM THROUGH THE CH. 11 TAKATA BANKRUPTCY.
"TAKATA RECALL" I HAVE HAD MY VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT SINCE MAY OF 2015, SINCE THEN MY JOURNEY AS A CUSTOMER HAS BEEN FRUSTRATING AND A VERY SCARY EXPERIENCED. ONCE I GOT THE CAR WITHIN A WEEK I TOOK IT TO MECHANICS TO GET THE USUAL DIAGNOSTICS DONE TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THE CAR. IT AUTOMATICALLY HAD THE TIRE WARNING LIGHT ON TILL DATE AFTER TIRE CHANGES, DIAGNOSTICS, AND TIMELY SERVICES. MY CAR'S STEERING CONTROL HAS BEEN A VERY BIG ISSUE, TURNING AND THE PERFORMANCE OF THE VEHICLE ENDED UP TO BE VERY UNSAFE AS IF I WILL LOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR ONE DAY. I HAVE GONE TO GET WHEEL ALIGNMENTS, TIRE CHANGES, ARM CONTROL CHANGES AND OTHER SEVERAL REMEDIES THAT ALWAYS TEND TO RESOLVE IN THE SAME ISSUE WITHIN WEEKS. I HAVE PUT $1000 WITHIN THE LAST 4 MONTHS AND I HAVE STILL A CAR THAT IS GOING TO FALL APART VERY SOON. I AM ALSO EXPERIENCING THE AIR BAG SIGNAL BEING OFF EVERY TIME I ENTER MY CAR AND I AM DRIVING. AS A YOUNG MOTHER AND STUDENT, I HAVE FOUND THIS CAR TO HAVE TOO MANY ISSUES AND EVERY UNRELIABLE. TO HAVE ENTERED MY VIN IN THE RECALL SYSTEM AND REALIZING THAT MY CAR HAS A ROTATING CLOCK ISSUE WITH NO REMEDY HAS HAD ME VERY WORRIED, AND I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CHILDREN IN A VEHICLE THAT HAS NO SAFETY FEATURES THAT ARE DUE TO FAIL IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY. I IN SOME UNSAFE WEATHER CONDITIONS PAY FOR MTA OR CAB SERVICES TO GET TO LOCATIONS SAFELY. TO HAVE A REMEDY THAT IS UNFOUND AS OF YET PUTS MY FAMILY AND MYSELF IN HARMS WAY.
VW SOLD OVER 500,000 'CLEAN DIESELS' IN THE US COMMITTING FRAUD. I'M IN LIMBO WITH A VEHICLE I DON'T WANT AND CAN'T SELL. WHEN IS THE NHTSA AND EPA GOING TO REQUIRE VW TO BUY BACK THIS CAR THAT BROKE A NUMBER OF STATUTES?
MY AIRBAG LIGHT ON MY CAR CAME ON AND NONE OF THE CONTROLS ON MY STEERING WHEEL WORK INCLUDING THE HORN. I LOOKED ON THE VW WEBSITE AND SAW THAT THERE WAS A RECALL. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NO REPAIR. THIS IS CONCERNING BECAUSE I DRIVE A LOT OF INTERSTATE MILES EACH WEEK. SATURDAY I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM VOLKSWAGEN ABOUT THE AIRBAG RECALL AND IT SAYS TO CONTACT THE DEALERSHIP IMMEDIATELY FOR REPAIR DUE TO SAFETY ISSUE BUT WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, THEY HAD NO PART TO REPAIR IT. I AM DRIVING WITHOUT A WORKING AIRBAG AND AM VERY CONCERNED!
IN OCTOBER 2015 THE PASSENGER FRONT DOOR LOCK BEGAN TO INTERMITTENTLY FAIL TO ENGAGE AND DISENGAGE. ATTEMPTS TO SWITCH THE LOCK FROM THE DOOR PANEL SWITCH AND THE KEY WERE BOTH INEFFECTIVE. THE LOCK CONTROL FOR THE VEHICLE IS 100% ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED, SUCH THAT THERE IS NO MEANS FOR MANUAL OVERRIDE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON NOV 6, 2015 AND THE LOCK WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. 1 WEEK AFTER THE PASSENGER SIDE LOCK WAS REPAIRED, THE DRIVER SIDE LOCK BEGAN TO FAIL INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS BROKEN INTO ON THE NIGHT OF NOV 19 AT MY RESIDENCE, AS THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR LOCK HAD NOT ENGAGED AND THE VEHICLE WAS LEFT UNPROTECTED FROM THIEVES. FAILURE OF THE LOCK FUNCTION PRESENTS A SAFETY HAZARD WHILE ON THE ROAD AND LEAVES THE VEHICLE UNSECURED FROM THIEVES. INABILITY TO MANUALLY FORCE THE LOCK TO LATCH MEANS THE VEHICLE/PASSENGERS ARE VULNERABLE UNTIL THE CAR CAN BE RETURNED TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. I BELIEVE THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW AS THIS HAS OCCURRED IN TWO LOCATIONS ON MY VEHICLE WITHIN THE SPAN OF A MONTH AND ONLINE FORUMS REPORT SIMILAR ISSUES WITH THE SAME MAKE/MODEL VEHICLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HEATER AND FLUID TANK WERE DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHEN THE PARTS WOULD BE SUPPLIED FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
VEHICLE SCHEDULE FOR 40000 MILE SERVICE. ENGINE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON CODE P2196. VOLKSWAGEN DID A COMPUTER UPDATE IN JANUARY 2015 FOR 30000 MILE SERVICE, 23N5 ECM SOFTWARE RECALL. OXYGEN SENSOR (FRONT) REPLACED WAS REPLACED BY VW WHEN I COMPLAINED IT SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED. THE EMISSION SYSTEM IS IN QUESTION SINCE THE OXYGEN SENSOR IS RUNNING RICH. THIS YEAR MODEL SHOULD BE ADDED TO RECALL FOR POLLUTION SYSTEM NOT FUNCTION CORRECTLY. THIS MODEL IS DIESEL. TDI
ON OR ABOUT SEPTEMBER 1,2015 I WAS DRIVING MY PASSAT AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I FINALLY MANAGED TO GET AN APPOINTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED ON THE 5TH OF SEPT. THEY SAID IT IS A P202B ADBLUE HEATER AND REPAIRS WOULD BE AROUND $1500. WHY IS THIS HEATER SYSTEM GOING BAD AFTER ONLY 2 AND A HALF YEARS? IT SEEMS LIKE A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS HAPPEN TO THEIR PASSATS AND THE REPAIR IS WAY OUT OF LINE FOR THIS NEW OF A CAR. WE BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW BECAUSE WE HEARD THAT IT WOULD LAST A GOOD 300,000 MILES. I WANT VOLKSWAGON TO RECALL THIS FAULTY PART AND TAKE CARE OF THIS ISSUE.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT TO SPEAK WITH HER LOCAL DEALER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEALER, WORLD VOLKSWAGEN LOCATED ON ROUTE 33 IN NEPTUNE NEW JERSEY, HAD BEEN AVOIDING HER AND INFORMED HER THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE THE AVAILABLE TOOLS. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
I WAS MAKING A TURN INTO MY DRIVE WAY, WHEN I HEARD A CRACKING NOISE. AT THAT POINT MY HEADS UP DISPLAY SHOWED 'AIRBAG ERROR' AND MY AIRBAG LED LIT UP ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE HORN AND OTHER CONTROLS ON MY STEERING WHEEL ARE NO LONGER FUNCTIONING. WE TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY WERE ABLE TO VERIFY THAT IT IS IN FACT THE CLOCK SPRING, BUT ARE NOT SURE IF IT WILL BE COVERED AS PART OF A RECALL YET.
THE CLOCK SPRING FAILED AND AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ON IN MY 2013 PASSAT. I TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP AND BECAUSE VOLKSWAGEN HAD JUST ACKNOWLEDGED A RECALL I HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR AND THEY SAID I WOULD BE REIMBURSED. NOW VOLKSWAGEN IS SAYING MY VIN IS NOT IN THE RECALL. HOW CAN THEY RECALL AND PAY FOR VEHICLES THAT HAVEN'T EVEN HAD THE PROBLEM BUT REFUSE TO COVER MINE?
VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER DUE TO UNABLE TO FILL UP WITH DIESEL. PUMP NOZZLE ACTS AS IF THE TANK IS FULL, USING VW ADAPTER OR "ANGLE" THE NOZZLE RESULTS IN DIESEL SPRAYING OUT AT THE PERSON OPERATING THE FUEL PUMP. VW DEALER FOUND DIRT OBSTRUCTING THE DIESEL VENT TUBE OFF THE FILLER NECK, WHILE ALL THE FACTORY FENDER LINING IN PLACE. EXTENDED WARRANTEE CONTRACT DECLINED CLAIM, SINCE IT IS NOT A DEFECTIVE TUBE, BUT RATHER DEFECTIVE DESIGN. VENT IS NOT PART OF THE "FEDERAL EMISSION" AND VW WANTS $1700 FOR NEW GAS TANK AND $700 FOR LABOR. FIRST OCCURRENCE OF THIS PROBLEM WAS AT 40K MILES, AT THAT TIME DEALER "COULD NOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE".
I'VE FOUND THAT THE DOORS ON MY 2013 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT [TDI] HAVE ELECTRICAL/MECHANICAL ISSUES WHEN THEY ARE EXPOSED TO RAIN WATER OR EXTREME HUMIDITY. DURING THESE EXPOSURES THEY WILL NOT STAY LOCKED [THEY WILL LOCK AND UNLOCK]. TWO SPECIFIC PERIODS OF TIME REALLY STAND OUT WHERE THE DOORS HAVE BEEN PARTICULARLY TROUBLESOME. THE FIRST WAS AFTER A RAIN STORM WHILE VISITING FAMILY IN MT. I WENT TO MY CAR AND FOUND THAT I COULD NOT CLOSE MY PASSENGER DOOR AFTER I OPENED IT. IT WAS STATIONARY AT THE TIME. I LITERALLY HAD TO WRAP MY SEATBELT AROUND THE DOOR HANDLE TO KEEP THE DOOR FROM FLYING OPEN AS I TOOK IT IN FOR EVALUATION. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD NOT RECREATE THE PROBLEM. WITHIN ONE WEEK IT HAPPENED AGAIN DURING ANOTHER RAIN SHOWER, THIS TIME I WAS DRIVING AND MY DAUGHTER WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT! THANKFULLY WE WERE DRIVING SLOW, IN TOWN, AND NO HARM CAME TO ANYONE. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HAD THEM REPLACE THE MECHANICAL PART OF THE LOCKING MECHANISM THIS SEEMED TO SOLVE THE 'STAYING CLOSED' ISSUE. THE SECOND PERIOD OF TIME I WAS IN FL IN LATE AUGUST. I WAS THERE FOR THREE WEEKS AND THE ENTIRE TIME THE HUMIDITY WAS SUCH THAT EVERYTHING WAS SOAKING WET. ONCE AGAIN I HAD ISSUES WITH MY DOORS. THIS TIME IT WAS MORE ELECTRICAL THAN MECHANICAL. MY KEY FOB STOPPED ALLOWING ME TO LOCK/UNLOCK MY DOORS AND THE LOCKS SEEMED TO BE POSSESSED. I HAD TO PULL THE COVER OFF MY 'TOUCH' LOCK TO USE THE KEY TO LOCK AND UNLOCK THE DOORS. I ALSO EXPERIENCED MILE AFTER MILE OF MY DOORS LOCKING AND UNLOCKING WHILE DRIVING. THIS LASTED THE ENTIRE TIME I WAS THERE. WHEN I CAME BACK TO A DRYER CLIMATE THE PROBLEM STOPPED. OF THE TWO SERIES OF ISSUES I EXPERIENCED THE ONE THAT PUT MY CHILD'S LIFE IN DANGER IS THE MOST CONCERNING. THE REPAIRS COST ME NEARLY $1K AND THE PEACE-OF-MIND I LOST IS IMMEASURABLE.
VEHICLE HAD A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. TOOK TO DEALER AND THEY QUOTED REPLACING THE ADBLUE DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID RESEVOIR. THIS IS PART OF THE EMISSION CONTROLS SYSTEM.

I WAS DRIVING HOME WITH MY THREE KIDS FROM UTAH TO OREGON ON I-84. WHILE PASSING THROUGH BOISE, ID THERE WAS SUDDENLY A LOUD EXPLOSION SOUNDING LIKE A BOMB OR GUNSHOT. I LOOKED BACK TO MAKE SURE MY KIDS WERE OKAY AND THEY HAD A LOOK OF TERROR ON THEIR FACES AND ASKED WHAT THAT NOISE WAS. I WASN'T SURE WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND THEN SMALL GLASS SHARDS STARTED RAINING DOWN ON ME THROUGH THE VENTS IN THE SHADE SHIELD OF THE SUNROOF. I THOUGHT THAT SOMETHING MUST HAVE LANDED ON THE CAR EVEN THOUGH I HADN'T PASSED THROUGH ANY OVERPASSES AND QUICKLY PULLED OVER TO INSPECT THE SUNROOF AS I KNEW IT HAD BROKEN BUT COULDN'T QUITE SEE WHAT HAD HAPPENED SINCE I HAD THE SHADE SHIELD CLOSED. WHEN I GOT OUT TO EXAMINE THE SUNROOF, IT HAD SPONTANEOUSLY EXPLODED OUTWARDS, NOT IMPLODED INWARDS. THE GLASS WAS SHATTERED BUT WAS STILL MOSTLY INTACT, MOST LIKELY FROM THE TINTING, BUT IT WAS CLEARLY PUSHED OUTWARDS AND NOT INWARDS. I HAD ALL THE WINDOWS AND SUNROOF CLOSED AT THAT TIME. IT WAS ABOUT 95 DEGREES OUTSIDE AND I HAD THE AIR CONDITIONING ON IN THE CAR. WE WERE LISTENING TO A AUDIO BOOK AND NOT TO ANY BASS THUMPING MUSIC. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, THE MAN SAID HE HAD NEVER HEARD OF THAT HAPPENING BEFORE AND THAT IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE FOR A CAR TO DO SO. WELL, IT IS POSSIBLE AND IT DID HAPPEN AND I'M GLAD THAT I HAD ENOUGH PRESENCE OF MIND TO REMAIN CALM AND NOT SWERVE INTO OTHER TRAFFIC ON THE BUSY INTERSTATE WHEN IT DID HAPPEN.
CONTINENTAL TIRE TYPE 235/45/R18. I HAD A SIDE WALL BLOWOUT ON I-95 WHILE DRIVING AT A SPEED OF 65MPH. THE TIRES CAME ON A 2013 VW PASSAT TDI SEL. THE DEALER IN HYANNIS, MA WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE SAID THAT IT MUST HAVE BEEN SOMETHING THAT I DID. THE TIRES HAD 16,500 MILES IN THEM WITH A TREAD WEAR OF 2/32 (ALMOST BRAND NEW). DRIVING ON A COUNTRY ROAD WITH MY WIFE AND 2 YOUNG DAUGHTERS, THE CAR SUDDENLY BEGAN MISFIRING AND LOST POWER. I WAS ABLE TO COAST IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL SHOWED UP SHORTLY AFTER AND STOPPED TO MAKE SURE WE WERE ALRIGHT. FORTUNATELY, WE HAD A CELLULAR SIGNAL AND WE WERE ABLE TO CONTACT A TOW SERVICE. UNFORTUNATELY, THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED >100MILES (FOR $700) TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS A FAILURE OF THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. THEY ARE SENDING THE FUEL OUT TO A LAB FIRST TO VERIFY THAT I DIDN'T PUT BIODIESEL IN IT; I DIDN'T. THEY ESTIMATE THAT I WILL BE WITHOUT MY VEHICLE FOR 7-14 DAYS, DEPENDING ON HOW BADLY THE DEBRIS IS INSIDE THE FUEL LINE AND ENGINE. THE DEALERSHIP DOES NOT HAVE A LOANER, VW DOESN'T OFFER A RENTAL AND I'M ON THE HOOK FOR THE TOW SERVICE. I WILL BE OUT OF POCKET OVER $1000 WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE, ALL BECAUSE OF A COMPONENT(S) THAT CLEARLY HAS DESIGN FLAWS OR QUALITY ISSUES. NHTSA 14V125000 / VW RECALL 94G8/7V - HEADLAMP HOLDER FAILURE(S) I HAVE HAD THE CAR EXPERIENCE THE "APPARENT" HEADLAMP FAILURE & REPLACED THE HEADLAMPS (LOW BEAM - DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE) ONLY TO HAVE THE LAMPS FAIL AGAIN. THE HEADLAMPS DO NOT USE A TRADITIONAL SOCKET & WIRE COMBINATION, BUT RATHER THE BULB IS INSERTED IN A BULB HOLDER & THEN SCREWED INTO A SOCKET WITH A RUBBER COVER PLACED BEHIND TO PREVENT WATER DAMAGE. THE SECOND TIME THIS OCCURRED AT NIGHT. AS I PULLED THE RUBBER COVER OFF, THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON (LIKE A SHORTED WIRE). I REPLACED THE BULB & TWISTED INTO PLACE & THE CAR WORKED NORMALLY FOR A MONTH. SINCE THEN, MULTIPLE LAMP RESETS HAVE BEEN REQUIRED (BOTH DRIVERS & PASSENGER SIDE). THE "FIXES" HAVE GONE FROM WEEKS TO ONLY DAYS IN DURATION & REQUIRE ME TO STOP & RESET THE LAMPS AT ALL HOURS OF THE DAY & NIGHT TO AVOID VISION & POTENTIAL LEGAL PROBLEMS FOR "FAULTY EQUIPMENT." I INFORMED THEM OF THE BROKEN PART BUT THEY SAID THEY STILL WOULD HAVE TO DO THE DIAGNOSTIC. THE CLOCK SPRING ITSELF WOULD COST $485 IF THAT WAS BROKEN PLUS LABOR CHARGES. CAR HAS APPROXIMATELY 57250 MILES.

DRIVING NORTHERLY ON I-95 AT HIGHWAY SPEED GOING UP THE INCLINE TO THE PISCATAQUA RIVER BRIDGE (THE BORDER BETWEEN NEW HAMPSHIRE AND MAINE), THE VEHICLE LOST FORWARD POWER ABOUT HALFWAY UP THE INCLINE OF THE BRIDGE APPROACH. THE ENGINE DID NOT STALL AT ANY TIME DURING OR AFTER THE EVENT. DRIVER WAS PREOCCUPIED WITH [1] TURNING ON HAZARD FLASHERS, [2] SAFELY NEGOTIATING ENTRY TO THE BREAKDOWN LANE, AND [3] NOT BRAKING IN AN ATTEMPT TO COAST TO THE TOP OF THE BRIDGE SUCH THAT THE CAR COULD COAST DOWN THE FAR SIDE OF THE BRIDGE AND ALLOW EXITING THE HIGHWAY AT THE NEARBY EXIT #1 IN MAINE. THE DRIVER'S PREOCCUPATION WITH SAFELY ADDRESSING THE POWER LOSS EVENT DID NOT ALLOW HIM TO SCAN ANY OF THE GAUGES OR INDICATORS ON THE FRONT PANEL. UPON REACHING THE TOP OF THE BRIDGE THE CAR WAS COASTING TO A STOP AND THE DRIVER SHIFTED BETWEEN DRIVE / SPORT / NEUTRAL TO SEE IF ANY POWER COULD BE RESTORED. WITHIN 30 SECONDS OR LESS THE CAR AGAIN RESUMED FORWARD MOTION IN THE DRIVE SHIFT SETTING. CAR WAS DRIVEN TO THE NEARBY VW DEALER WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED. SERVICE DEPARTMENT CHECKED (DIESEL) FUEL QUALITY WHICH WAS GOOD, AND FOUND NO ERROR CODES WHEN A SCAN WAS DONE. A VTA CASE WAS OPENED AND OWNER CONTACTED VW CUSTOMER CARE IN AUBURN HILLS, MI. SUBSEQUENT TESTING AT THE SAME DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT ON 9 APRIL 2015 ALSO RESULTED IN NO FINDINGS FOR A CAUSE. VW RECOMMENDS I CONTINUE DRIVING IT UNTIL THE POWER LOSS OCCURS AGAIN. DROVE MY CAR TO RUN AN ERRAND AND WHEN I CAME BACK HOME AND TRIED TO GET OUT OF THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR, THERE WAS A BIG POPPING NOISE AND THE HANDLE WOULDN'T ENGAGE TO OPEN THE DOOR. I HAD TO ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW AND OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE. AFTER I HAD THE DOOR OPEN AND TRIED TO SHUT IT, IT WOULDN'T LATCH CLOSED AND REMAINED OPEN. I HAD MY HUSBAND TAKE A LOOK AT IT AND HE WAS ABLE TO PLAY WITH THE LATCH AND MAKE IT ENGAGE AGAIN TO CLOSE THE DOOR. HE THEN TOOK APART THE DOOR AS MUCH AS HE COULD TO SEE WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND FOUND THAT THE WIRE CABLE LOOP THAT PULLED THE LEVER TO OPEN THE DOOR HAD SHREDDED. WHEN HE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THAT THEY ACTUALLY KEPT THOSE CABLES ON HAND BECAUSE IT WAS A PRETTY COMMON PROBLEM AND IT WOULD COST AROUND $500 TO FIX. NO WAY IT'S SAFE AND OK FOR THIS TO HAPPEN. CALLED VW CUSTOMER SERVICE, WAS TOLD OVER WARRANTY, NOTHING THEY CAN DO.. HAVE A NICE WEEKEND. SMALL CONSOLATION. I GUESS IT'S TOTALLY FINE TO DRIVE MY CHILDREN AROUND IN A CAR IS PURCHASED BC OF THE SAFETY RATINGS ALL THE WHILE HOLDING A DOOR CLOSED FOR A WEEK AND A HALF. UNBELIEVABLE *TR
IN COLD WEATHER SOMETIMES THE FRONT DRIVERS AND PASSENGER DOORS WILL NOT OPEN, I HAVE TO GO THROUGH A REAR DOOR AND OPEN IT FROM THE INSIDE, THEN MOST OF THE TIME IT WILL WORK FINE AFTER THAT, THOUGH A FEW TIMES THE DOOR WOULD NOT STAY LATCHED. THE FIRST TIME I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY SAID THEY HEARD OF THIS AND DID NOTHING, I JUST RECENTLY BROUGHT IT BACK AND THEY INSTALLED A UPDATED LATCH. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUED FOR THIS PROBLEM. *TR
