TAKATA RECALL: ON NOVEMBER 17, 2017, TOOK 2013 VW PASSAT TO CHAPMAN VOLKSWAGEN (4500 E 22ND ST; 85711) TO REPLACE AIRBAGS. CLOCK SPRING FAIL: ON AUGUST 29, 2018, TOOK 2013 VW PASSAT BACK TO CHAPMAN VOLKSWAGEN SINCE 'CHECK MAINTENANCE AIRBAG' LIGHT ON, HORN NOT WORKING, AND THE DIALS FOR RADIO/ BLUETOOTH NOT WORKING. INFORMED BY SERVICE TECH THAT CLOCK SPRING FAILED SO NEED TO REMOVE/REPLACE AND COULD NOT FIND RECALL RE:CLOCK SPRING BASED ON VIN. BILLED AND PAID $672.80.
CLOCK SPRING WENT OUT. THIS IS A RECALL FOR 2013 PASSAT, HOWEVER MY VIN IS EXCLUDED. NOT HAPPY
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN REVERSE, THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL AND A "DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG ERROR" MESSAGE APPEARED. THE CONTACT CALLED FINDLAY VOLKSWAGEN AT (702) 558-6600 (LOCATED AT 983 AUTO SHOW DR, HENDERSON, NV 89014) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED FOR MANUFACTURER RECALL NUMBER: 239516 AND AN UNKNOWN NHTSA CAMPAIGN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AGAIN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,000.
WE TOOK OUR CAR IN FOR SERVICE ON 8/11/18 DUE TO THE AIR BAG LIGHT COMING ON AND STEERING WHEEL FUNCTIONS NO LONGER WORKING. THE DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED THE ISSUE WITH THE CLOCKSPRING AND STATED THAT BECAUSE OUR CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY THAT WE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIRS. WE STATED THAT THIS SEEMS LIKE AN ISSUE WITH DEFECTIVE EQUIPMENT SINCE THE CAR IS ONLY 5 YRS OLD AS WELL AS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE. WE ESCALATED THE ISSUE TO THE CORPORATE CUSTOMER SERVICE. THE REP STATED AGAIN THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIRS BECAUSE THE CAR WAS PAST ITS WARRANTY. WE CONDUCTED OUR OWN RESEARCH ON RECALLS FOR THIS VEHICLE AS THERE HAS BEEN OTHERS (I.E. AIR BAG AND ADBLUE HEATER). WE LOCATED THE 2015 RECALL ON THE CLOCK SPRING AND DISCUSSED THIS WITH VW CUSTOMER SERVICE AS WELL. THEY REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE OUR VEHICLE AS ONE OF THE ONES AFFECTED EVEN THOUGH WE ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUES. WE ARE CONCERNED WITH THIS SAFETY ISSUE AS WE ARE NOT ABLE TO USE THE HORN, THE AIRBAG IS INOPERABLE AS WELL.
RECALL #94G8 ON 8/26/2014 I HAD MY VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICING AT THE DEALERSHIP FROM WHICH I HAD PURCHASED IT. THEY INFORMED ME THAT IN ADDITION TO THE ROUTINE SERVICING THEY WOULD BE ADDRESSING A RECALL ISSUE REGARDING THE "LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS". THE INVOICE I RECEIVED SHOWS THE WORK PERFORMED. FLASH FORWARD 4 YEARS ALMOST TO THE DATE, I WAKE IN THE MORNING TO LEAVE FOR WORK TO SEE THAT NEITHER OF MY LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ARE WORKING. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO GET THE ISSUE RESOLVED ASAP. WHILE AT THE DEALERSHIP LATER THAT DAY THEY LOOKED THE CAR OVER AND COME BACK WITH AN ESTIMATE OF $950 TO FULLY REPLACE BOTH HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES BASED OFF THE FACT THAT THERE IS POWER TO THE LIGHT SOCKETS, BUT NOT TO THE BULBS. THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE THAT WOULD BE VERY CLOSELY RELATED TO THE ISSUE THE RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR. YET BECAUSE THEY HAVE PERFORMED THE INITIAL SOLUTION MEET THE RECALL RESOLUTION SPECIFICATIONS, VOLKSWAGEN IS NOT REQUIRED TO DO ANYTHING FURTHER. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE? IF A SPECIFIED RESOLUTION TO A SAFETY RECALL ISSUE FAILS, THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE MADE TO LOOK FURTHER INTO A BETTER RESOLUTION, AT NO CHARGE TO THE CONSUMER. IT MOST CERTAINLY IS NOTHING THAT I DID THAT CAUSED THE ISSUE. THE PROBLEM WOULDN'T EXIST AT ALL IF THE DESIGN BY THE MANUFACTURER WASN'T FLAWED.
CLOCK SPRING FAILURE. DANGEROUS AS AIR BAG AND HORN DO NOT WORK.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V078000 (AIR BAGS). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PRESTIGE VOLKSWAGEN OF STAMFORD (42 W BROAD ST, STAMFORD, CT 06902, (203) 327-2500) WHERE IT WAS KEPT FOR A MONTH WHILE THEY WAITED FOR THE PART. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE AIR BAG SENSOR ILLUMINATED AFTERWARDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE SENSOR REPAIRED, BUT IT ILLUMINATED AGAIN. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT SHE COULD NOT GET ANOTHER LOANER VEHICLE FOR ANOTHER FOUR WEEKS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS AND THE CONTACT WAS CHARGED OVER $536 FOR THE LABOR FOR THE FINAL REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER HAD A REGIONAL CASE MANAGER CALL THE CONTACT AND ADVISED HER TO PAY THE DEALER BEFORE THEY COULD WORK ON HER CASE. THE REGIONAL CASE MANAGER STATED THAT SHE COULD NOT ASSIST UNTIL THE CONTACT RETRIEVED HER VEHICLE FROM THE DEALER. THE CONTACT HAD NOT DECIDED ON WHAT COURSE OF ACTION TO TAKE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,128.
PULLING OUT OF DRIVEWAY EPC LIGHT COMES ON. TOTAL LOSS OF POWER AND ENGINE SPEED SET TO 1800RPM IN "SAFE MODE" NO ONE KNOWS EXACTLY WHAT IS WRONG. MECHANICS CANNOT TTELL ME WHAT IS WRONG. DEALERSHIP VW HAS NO IDEA AND WANT TO START REPLACING ITEMS IN DESCRIMINATELY AND I DON'T HAVE THAT KIND OF MONEY TO THROW AROUND AND BESIDES. THE PEOPLE THAT BUILT THE CAR CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. COMPUTER FAULTS AND SHUTS DOWN THE POWER AT HIWAY SPEEDS AND SOMETIMES CAR STALLS OUT. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND HAPPENING TO HUNDREDS MAYBE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE I'M READING ONLINE AND TALKING WITH OTHER OWNERS.
MY CLOCK SPRING WAS SUPPOSEDLY REPLACED IN 08/17 BY A VW DEALER BEFORE I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM CHEVY. WHEN I TOOK MY CAR IN BECAUSE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ON AND NO STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS WORKED, I WAS INFORMED THAT I HAD AN OPEN CIRCUIT IN MY CLOCK SPRING AND SINCE IT HAD ALREADY BEEN REPAIRED BY THE RECALL I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT THIS TIME.
I HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THE RIGHT LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT. PUT A NEW BULB IN AND IT STILL DON'T WORK. IM HERE AT THE VW REPAIR AND SHOWED THEM THAT THEIR WAS A RECALL ON THE THIS ISSUE. THEY SAID THAT MY CAR WASN'T ONE OF THE ONES THAT WAS RECALLED. IT'S NOT FAIR THAT I SHOULD PAY FOR THIS PART TO BE FIXED. WHEN IT WAS RECALLED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED, WHICH WAS A SAFETY CONCERN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BLUETOOTH, RADIO, AND HORN FAILED TO OPERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE CLOCK SPRING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V483000 (AIR BAGS) IN 2015. AN UNKNOWN DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO CONTACTED AND WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY AT A MECHANIC FOR REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 103,000.
THERE WAS A RECALL ON CLOCKSPRING, AND THE REPAIR WAS A CLOCKSPRING COVER THAT WAS REPAIRED ON MY VEHICLE IN MARCH OF 2016. JULY 2018 MY CLOCKSPRING HAD TO BE COMPLETELY REPLACED COSTING $650. THERE WAS ALSO AN AIRBAG RECALL THAT CAUSED MY HORN TO STOP WORKING, AIRBAG LIGHT TO COME ON, AT THE SAME EXACT TIME THE CLOCKSPRING STOPPED WORKING. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A DEALERSHIP 2 DAYS AGO TO HAVE THE CLOCKSPRING LOOKED AT AND THE RECALL ON THE AIRBAG REPAIRED. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PURCHASE A NEW CLOCKSPRING BECAUSE ONLY THE COVER WAS CONSIDERED A RECALL, HOWEVER OBVIOIUSLY THIS WAS NOT A SUFFICIENT CLOCKSPRING REPAIR.
IN OCT/6/2017 TOOK MY CAR TO RUDOLPH VW FOR THE AIR BAG RECALL, IN JUNE 29, 2018. I GOT THE SAME WARNING LIGHTS EXCEPT THIS TIME THEY ARE TELLING ME THAT THE PROBLEM IS THE CLOCK SPRING, THE PART UNDER NIT THE CUP AND AIRBAG AND THIS TIME I HAVE TO PAY FOR IT, A PROBLEM ORIGINATED BY THEM AND NOW THEY WANT TO COLLECT $ 610.00 DLLS. ALSO THEY SAID THAT THE WARRANTY EXPIRED, 1 YEAR OR 12,000 MILES, MY CAR ODOMETER RECORD INDICATE BACK THE 28086 IN 10/6/17 AND NOW 80,998 MILES IMPOSSIBLE TO BELIEVE.
THE AIR BAG CLOCK SPRING WAS ORIGINALLY REPLACED BY RECALL IN 2014. WHILE DRIVING OVER THE WEEKEND AND MAKING A TURN I HEARD A NOISE AND FELT A THUMP IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AND I LOST ALL CONTROLS ASSOCIATED WITH THE STEERING WHEEL. REFRAINED FROM DRIVING THE CAR CALLED THE DEALER ON MONDAY 6-25-18 COULDED SCHEDULE APPT UNTIL WED THE 27TH. ON THE 27TH DEER DIAGNOSED IT AS A BROKEN CLOCK SPRING.... AGAIN. SAID THEY DO THE REPAIR IN CONJUNCTION WITH TAKADA AIR BAG RECALL REPAIR BUT THAT I WOULD STILL OWE $450 TO REPAIR CLOCKSPRING. I PROTESTED THE REPAIR BILL AND SAID IT SHOULD BE COVERED SINCE IT WAS REPAIRED PREVIOUSLY. THEY SAID I COULD CALL VW MYSELF AND HAVE THEM REVIEW THE CLAIM. THE CLAIM IS PENDING WITH VE FOR THE THIRD DAY AND I AM WITHOUT VEHICLE UNTIL CLAIM IS RESOLVED. THERE CONTINUES TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THESE FAULTY CLOCKSPRING AND VW NEEDS TO MAKE GOOD ON THE PREVIOUS RECALL REPAIR.
MY STEERING WHEEL HAS BEEN MAKING A CRUNCHING NOISE. WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE, I GOT OFF AT AN EXIT TO PURCHASE FOOD. WHILE TURNING INTO A PARKING LOT, ONE LOUD CRUNCH NOISE HAPPENED AND THE DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. I ALSO NOTICED THAT I LOST ALL ELECTRONIC FUNCTIONS IN THE STEERING WHEEL. I WAS VERY CONCERNED SINCE I STILL HAD AN HOURS DRIVE HOME AND WAS UNSURE IF THE CAR WAS SAFE OR NOT.
THE CLOCKSPRING WAS RECALLED AND REPLACED IN 2015. WHILE BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT I HEARD A COUPLE OF POPS AND LOST ANY STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS, IE: VOLUME CONTROL ECT... THE AIRBAG LIGHT ALSO ILLUMINATED. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK IT TO VOLKSWAGEN SERVICE CENTER WHERE THEY ASSESSED THE ISSUE AND CONFIRMED IT WAS THE CLOCKSPRING AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.
WHILE I WAS HOME, I NOTICED MY AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND THE BUTTONS ON MY STEERING WHEEL DIDN'T WORK. A FEW DAYS LATER I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND A CAR ALMOST CHANGED LANES ON TOP OF ME. I TRIED TO HONK MY HORN AND NOTHING CAME OUT. THANKFULLY THE CAR SWERVED BACK IN IT'S LANE BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE ANYWHERE TO GO. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THE CLOCK SPRING NEEDED REPLACED. IN 2016 I HAD MY CLOCK SPRING REPLACED AS PART OF A RECALL (69L2). I'VE RECENTLY LEARNED THAT MANY OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING A SIMILAR ISSUE WITH THEIR RECALL-REPLACED CLOCK SPRING. VOLKSWAGEN IS NOT ACKNOWLEDGING THE PROBLEM WITH THE RECALL WORK AND CLOCK SPRING BEING FAULTY AND WILL ONLY REPLACE IT IF I SPEND OVER $700 FOR ANOTHER DIAGNOSTIC AND REPAIR.
WHILE DRIVING ONE DAY I HEARD A SNAP IN THE STEERING COLUMN AND THE AIRBAG SYMBOL ILLUMINATED. THE HORN DOES NOT WORK AND EACH TIME I TURN THE WHEEL I CAN HEAR A NOISE COMING FROM THE COLUMN. AFTER TAKING TO A DEALER IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE CLOCK SPRING HAS FAILED IN THE VEHICLE AND VOLKSWAGEN HAS REFUSE TO REPLACE DUE TO PLACING A COVER OVER THE CLOCK SPRING IN JANUARY OF 2016.
THE HEADLIGHT (LOW BEAM) ON THE PASSENGER SIDE IS NOT STABLE - WHEN I AM DRIVING, IT WILL GO OFF (AND THEN SOMETIMES ON AGAIN) WHEN I HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD OR JUST FROM VEHICLE VIBRATION. I FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR BOTH 2012 AND 2013 PASSATS BUT MY SPECIFIC VIN NUMBER IS NOT LISTED ON THE RECALL NOTICE. I CALLED VOLKSWAGEN CUSTOMER CARE ( CASE NUMBER 181250046) AND WAS TOLD THEY CAN NOT ADD IT TO THE RECALL LIST EVEN THOUGH IT IS THE SAME PROBLEM. MY VW DEALER HAS SEEN MY CAR AND CONFIRMED IT IS AN ELECTRICAL CONNECTION ISSUE AND THE SAME ISSUE AS THE RECALL. CAN YOU HELP ME GET MY VIN ADDED TO THE RECALL LIST?
I HAVE TAKEN MY VW IN FOR THE RECALL, SCHEDULED A VISIT SPECIFICALLY FOR THE RECALL. AFTER I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN THEY SAID THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS. I WAS TOLD THAT THE PARTS WERE BACKORDERED. I HAVE NO INDICATION FROM VW ON HOW LONG THIS WILL TAKE. I AM MILITARY MOVING OVER SEAS AND NEED THIS FIXED BEFORE IT CAN BE SHIPPED. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH VW 3X IN THE PAST MONTH ABOUT THIS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND POWERED OFF THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE WITH AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR STILL ILLUMINATED, WHICH WAS A SAFETY CONCERN. IN ADDITION, THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS AND HORN FAILED TO FUNCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MANDEVILLE VOLKSWAGEN (1700 N CAUSEWAY BLVD, MANDEVILLE, LA 70471, 985-626-1067) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CLOCKSPRING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 122,000.
I HAVE THE SAME ISSUE AS INVESTIGATION RQ 17-009. MY CLOCKSPRING WAS PART OF A RECALL WITH PREVIOUS OWNER HAVING THE RECALL COMPLETED IN 2017. NOW THE CLOCKSPRING IS BROKEN ONCE AGAIN. I CONTACTED VW AND THEY INFORMED ME THE RECALL IS CLOSED AND ON ME TO FIX OR DEALER I PURCHASED THE CAR THROUGH. THIS IS A VW ISSUE. I HEARD AND FELT THE CLOCK SPRING POP WHILE MAKING A HARD TURN A FEW DAYS AGO. LOST ALL HAND CONTROLS, HORN AND AIRBAG LIGHT. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WITH NO AIRBAG.
MY VEHICLE FOR SOME REASON IS NOT UNDER THE RECALL FOR ALL OTHER MODELS WITH SAME DEFECT. I HAVE A INTAKE MANIFOLD MALFUNCTION THAT WAS RECALLED ON ALL CC'S OF MY YEAR AND PRIOR BUT FOR SOME REASON MY MODEL WASN'T COVERED AND SHOULD BE.
MY DRIVER SIDE HEADLIGHT WOULD RANDOMLY STOP WORKING. SOMETIMES WHEN I WAS DRIVING AND OTHER TIMES WHEN IT WAS PARKED OVER NIGHT. FOR AWHILE I COULD MOVE THE LIGHT UNDER THE HOOD AND IT WOULD WORK AGAIN BUT THEN I WOULD HIT A BUMP AND IT WOULD STOP. EVENTUALLY THE LIGHT CONNECTION WOULDN'T WORK AT ALL ANYMORE AND THE VW DEALERSHIP TOLD ME I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE LIGHT SO I DID. NOW THE PASSENGER SIDE LIGHT IS DOING THE EXACT SAME THING. I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL BACK IN 2014 WITH THE NUMBERS 14V125000 AND 94G8/7V EXPLAINING EXACTLY WHAT IS HAPPENING TO MY CAR BUT IT APPEARS THAT MY VIN NUMBER DOES NOT HAVE THIS RECALL UNDER IT. I HAVE THE BILL FOR MY HEADLIGHT REPLACEMENT AND A DIAGNOSIS OF THE CAR IF NEEDED.
AIR LIGHT COMES ON AT STARTUP SOMETIME DOES NOT GO AWAY
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HORN WAS INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. HILTON HEAD VOLKSWAGEN (137 AUTO MALL BLVD, HARDYVILLE, SC) AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED PER AN UNKNOWN AIR BAG RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 400.
MY VEHICLE WAS A PART OF THE VEHICLES THAT HAD THE CLOCKSPRING RECALL. I TOOK IT TO A VW DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE RECALL FIXED AND EXACTLY ONE YEAR AFTER THEY 'FIXED' THE CLOCKSPRING, IT CEASED TO WORK AGAIN. NOW THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT IS ON, THE HORN DOES NOT WORK, AND NEITHER DO ANY OF THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS. VW REFUSES TO FIX THE ISSUE WITHOUT A CHARGE OF UPWARDS OF $500, STATING THAT BECAUSE IT IS NOT APART OF THE INITIAL RECALL IT IS NOT THEIR RESPONSIBILITY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT. WHILE PARKING THE VEHICLE, THE AIR BAG ERROR WARNING ILLUMINATED AND ALL THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS TURNED OFF. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT COULD NOT USE THE HORN OR THE RADIO. THE DEALER (ROSEVILLE VOLKSWAGEN, 830 AUTOMALL DR, ROSEVILLE, CA 95661) STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V483000 (AIR BAGS). CAR WOULD MAKE WHIRLING SOUNDS INTERMITTENTLY, DIFFICULTY GOING UP HILL, ROUGH IDLE SOMETIMES, CAR SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING, CAR SHUT OFF WHILE IDLING AT A LIGHT, CAR HAD DIFFICULTY STARTING OR WOULD START THEN SHAKE AND LET OUT LOUD AND HARD BURSTS OF GAS FROM EXHAUST AND CUT OFF, CAR WILL START UP THEN LOSE POWER, SOMETIMES WILL START BACK UP. ONE TIME IT TOOK 3 TRIES AND WOULD NOT START. HAD AT VW DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE JAM 2017 TILL NOW. HAPPENED AGAIN TODAY AFTER I GOT GAS, SHUT OFF THEN TOOK A WHILE TO GAIN POWER AND EPC AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WERE ON THEN DISAPPEARED. EVERY OTHER TIME THE WNGINE LIGHT WOULD DISAPPEAR. THE LAST TIME IN MARCH THEY HAD THE CAR 10 OR SO DAY. TWO DAYS LATER IT IDLED ROUGH. THEY WERE BUSY TO CHECK THE CAR NOW THIS. JAN 2017 CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THEY SAID FAULT P0106/P2188- DID SOFTWARE UPDATE AND ADVISES FAULTS MAY COME BACK. FEB 2017 ENGINE LIGHT THEY SAID SAME FAULTS AND MANIFOLD PRESSURE SENSOR FAILED. GOT REPLACED. MARCH 2017 CAR STALLED IN TRAFFIC MULTIPLE TIMES. THEY CLEANED THROTTLE BODY. MARCH 2017 IN IDLE CAR SHAKING AND SHUT OFF RPMS UP AND DOWN REPLACED CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. MAY 2017 SHUT OFF IN TRAFFIC- REPLACED N80 VALVE. 05/05/18 GOT SPARK PLUGS CHANGED. MARCH 7 CAR SHUT OFF THREE TIMES AFTER GETTING GAS. THEY HAD IT TILL MARCH 19 SAID CHARCOAL CANISTER NEED REPLACING THEN UPON PICK UP SAID N205 VALVE CAM ADJUSTER SOLENOID CLICKING LOUDLY. MARCH 29 NOTICED HEARING WHIRLING SOUNDS AND ROUGH IDLE. CALLED EALER NO ONE AVAILABLE OVER WEEKEND. BUSY. TODAY 04/08 CAR SHUT OFF AFTER 2ND GAS FILL UP. STARTED BACK SLOWLY EPC AND ENGINE LIGHT STEADY THEN IT GAINED POWER AND LIGHTS OFF. VW CORPORARE ADVISED IN 2017 I AM OUT OF WARRANTY AND HAVE HIGH MILEAGE. OPENED CLAIM AGAIN TODAY THEY SAID SAME THING BUT WILL SEE IF THE CORPORATE WOULD BE WILLING TO OFFER ASSISTANCE. AIRBAG LIGHT REMAINS ON. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP OWINGS MILLS HERITAGE VW AND WAS INFORMED THAT DRIVER'S SIDE "CURTAIN " AIR BAG IS WHAT IS CAUSING IT. CONCERNS AS TO WHETHER IT IS DEFECTIVE AND IF IT WILL PROVIDE PROTECTION IF THERE'S AN ACCIDENT. I WOULD THINK THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURING ISSUE.
I COMPLETED SAFETY RECALL (15V-483 ) BACK TO 01/2016. HOWEVER, I STARTED TO HEAR NOISE FROM THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN MAKING TURNS. I WENT TO A NEARBY DEALERSHIP AND FOUND OUT THAT THE NOISE IS DUE TO THE CLOCK SPRING. THE DEALER FILED A CLAIM WITH VOLKSWAGEN AND THEY REJECTED THE CLAIM SINCE IT WAS A MONTH AFTER COMPLETING THE RECALL ACTION AND THEY ONLY PROVIDE 2 YEARS WARRANTY FOR THAT. I DID A RESEARCH ONLINE AND FOUND THAT MANY PEOPLE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM EVEN AFTER COMPLETING THE RECALL ACTION. I SAW THAT AN INVESTIGATION (RQ 17-009) HAS BEEN OPENED BACK TO 11/2017.
LEFT LOW BEAM HEADLAMP FAILED AT 78000 MILES. I REPLACED THE BULB, TO NO AVAIL. SWITCHED THE BULB TO THE DRIVER SIDE AND IT WORKED PERFECTLY. PUT THE SUSPECTED BAD BULB IN THE DRIVER SIDE, WORKED PERFECTLY. DID SOME RESEARCH AND LEARNED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE DIM HEADLIGHT SOCKET WAS THE SUBJECT OF A RECALL. TOOK THE CAR TO VILLAGE VW IN CHATTANOOGA. THEY REFUSED TO EVEN LOOK AT THE CAR, UNTIL I PAID 99 DOLLARS FOR A DIAGNOSIS FEE, THEN PARTS AND LABOR. I EXPLAINED AND RE EXPLAINED THE RECALL. THE REFUSED TO FIX THE CAR, SINCE MY VIN WASN'T SPECIFICALLY LISTED IN THE RECALL. I AM HAVING THE EXACT SYMPTOMS LISTED N THE RECALL, VW IS REFUSING TO REPAIR IT. THIS IS APPARENTLY A COMMON PROBLEM CONSIDERING ALL I HAVE READ. MANY PASSAT OWNERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE SAME LIGHT, AND VW IS REFUSING TO REPAIR THE VEHICLES.
CLOCK SPRING HAS FAILED IN LESS THAN A MONTH AFTER CLOCK SPRING RECALL IN JANUARY OF 2018. STEERING CONTROLS ARE NOT FUNCTIONAL, AIR BAG ERROR LIGHT IS ON, I ASSUME DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG IS CURRENTLY NON FUNCTIONAL. TURNED THE VEHICLE AND HEARD A POP SOUND ORIGINATING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN, LOST STEERING CONTROL, AND AIR BAG ERROR IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED.
AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND THE STEERING CONTROLS ARE NOT WORKING. DEALER DIAGNOSED AS CLOCK SPRING AS BAD AND WON'T COVER BECAUSE OUT OF WARRANTY. THERE IS A RECALL FOR VW PASSAT 2010 TO 2014 FOR CLOCK SPRING RELATED PROBLEMS AND AIRBAG, BUT VW CLAIMS THAT MY VIN IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. THIS IS NOT RIGHT...THEY HAVE A RECALL FOR MY EXACT PROBLEM AND DON'T WANT TO TAKE OWNERSHIP. REALLY LOOKING FOR SOME GUIDANCE FROM NHTSA.

MY CAR IS NOT CURRENTLY INCLUDED IN RECALL 94G8/7V BUT IS EXPERIENCING THE EXACT ISSUES OUTLINED IN THE RECALL. MY LEFT, FRONT, LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT HAS GONE OUT. THE BULB IS NOT BURNED OUT (TESTED ON RIGHT SIDE) AND THE HIGH BEAM HEADLIGHT STILL WORKS. THE CAR WAS STATIONARY AND IDLING WHEN THE LIGHT WENT OUT INITIALLY. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL VW DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST ME OVER $400 TO FIX THE ISSUE. I WAS TOLD NOTHING ABOUT THE ACTIVE RECALL. WITHIN A SHORT TIME THE LIGHT BEGAN WORKING AGAIN BUT ONLY FOR A FEW WEEKS. IT HAS GONE OUT AGAIN AND HAS BEEN OUT FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. I UNDERSTAND MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED, BUT AS STATED, MY ISSUE IS IDENTICAL TO THE RECALL AND IT SHOULD BE INCLUDED. I AM ASKING WHAT I CAN DO TO HAVE MY VIN ADDED TO THE RECALL. THANK YOU!
1/26/2018 - I WAS DRIVING MY 2013 VW PASSAT ON THE HIGHWAY AT A 60 MPH SPEED, AND IT SUDDENLY BEGAN FORCING ITSELF TO STOP, AS IF THE TRANSMISSION WAS GOING OUT. THE CAR BEGAN SLOWING DOWN JERKING ITSELF, AND THE CARS BEHIND ME HAD TO BRAKE ABRUPTLY, ALMOST HITTING ME. IT WAS A FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE. I DID LOOK DOWN AT THE GEAR WHILE THIS WAS HAPPENING AND NOTICED THAT THE GEAR LIGHTS D & S WERE BOTH LIT IN RED AND THE - AND + WERE ALSO LIT IN RED. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO STOP (ON THE HIGHWAY) AND PUT MY CAR GEAR ON PARK. I QUICKLY PUT IT ON PARK AND THEN TRIED TO DRIVE AGAIN, ALL WAS WELL UNTIL I EXITED THE FREEWAY, AND WHILE I WAS TRYING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN, THE CAR BEGIN SLOWLY JERKING AGAIN, NOT ALLOWING TO CONTINUE DRIVING. I FINALLY PULLED TO THE SIDE AND TURNED OFF THE CAR, RESTARTING IT AFTER A FEW MINUTES, AND THEN ALL WAS NORMAL AGAIN. TODAY, 1/27/2018, ON MY WAY TO WORK, THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENED. I'M TAKING MY CAR INTO SERVICE FIRS THING MONDAY MORNING. I JUST PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE ON OCTOBER 2017, AND NO RECALLS WERE ON THIS VEHICLE. DRIVER DOOR HANDLE STICKS IN COLD WEATHER AND WON'T OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE. WHEN CRAWLING ACROSS FROM PASSENGER SIDE TO OPEN DRIVER DOOR FROM THE INSIDE, SOMETHING BROKE VERY EASILY. I WAS ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR, BUT NOW MY DRIVERS DOOR WON'TLOCK IN PLACE TO STAY SHUT. VERY DANGEROUS TO TRY DRIVING WITH THE DOOR SWINGING OPEN AT EVERY CURVE.

A 2013 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT, ON JANUARY 7THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND "ERROR: AIRBAG" WARNING WAS DISPLAYED. THE HORN NO LONGER WORKS AND THE BUTTONS AROUND THE STEERING WHEEL ARE INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO VW IN FINDLAY, OH WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TAKAKA AIRBAG RECALL WAS IN EFFECT FOR THIS VEHICLE AND THAT RECALLED PART WAS REPLACED. HOWEVER THE STEERING WHEEL MAKES A CLICKING NOISE WHEN IT IS TURNED, THE BUTTONS AROUND THE STEERING WHEEL ARE STILL NOT WORKING AND THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT AND "ERROR:AIRBAG" WARNING IS STILL ON.
I WAS PARKED WITH THE CAR OFF AND ALL DOORS UNLOCKED AND I WAS UNABLE TO OPEN THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR OF MY 2013 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT FROM THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. IT SOUNDED AS IF THE LOCK ON THE FRONT DRIVER DOOR WOULD NOT UNLOCK. ALL OTHER DOORS OPENED NORMALLY. I NOW HAVE TO ENTER AND EXIT THE DRIVER SEAT FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SEAT. THIS SEEMS LIKE A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN IF I EVER HAD TO EXIT MY VEHICLE QUICKLY IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION.
THE FRONT RIGHT FENDER LINER DOES NOT COVER A HOLE THAT ALLOWS SNOW AND WATER TO GET INTO THE FRESH AIR BLOWER INSIDE THE CABIN. WHEN IT IS VERY COLD OUTSIDE (WHICH IS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME IN MONTANA) THE WATER THAT HAS CONTACTED THE BLOWER MOTOR WILL FREEZE, IN TURN NOT ALLOWING THE FRESH AIR BLOWER TO TURN. WHEN THE FRESH AIR BLOWER DOES NOT TURN, THERE IS NO DEFROST OR HEAT IN THE CABIN. I DROVE HOME AND HAD TO GO THROUGH SNOW THAT WAS ON THE ROAD. THIS SNOW WAS THROWN UP INTO AN UNCOVERED HOLE AND GOT INTO THE BLOWER HOUSING. THE NEXT MORNING I WENT TO START THE CAR AND HAD NO BLOWER MOTOR. THIS IS THE 4TH TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME. I WAS DRIVING TO WORK WHEN THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE HAPPENED, AND I HAD TO SCRAPE THE WINDOW EVERY 30 SECONDS TO ENSURE THAT I COULD SEE WHERE I WAS GOING. I WAS ALSO VERY VERY COLD CONSIDERING THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS 0 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE IN A SITUATION THAT I WAS TO GET TO A WARM PLACE FAST ENOUGH THAT MY FEET DID NOT FREEZE OFF. VOLKSWAGEN HAD ACKNOWLEDGED THIS PROBLEM AND HAS CREATED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ABOUT THE ISSUE. THEY WILL NOT COVER ANY COST OF THIS OBVIOUS DESIGN FLAW. THE BULLETIN NUMBER IS GROUP 87, NO. 15-15. THE REPAIR REQUIRES A NEW FENDER LINER, A NEW HVAC AIR INLET COVER, A NEW WATER DEFLECTOR, A NEW PLENUM CHAMBER COVER, AND A NEW CABIN AIR FILTER, AS SEEN IN THE TECHNICAL BULLETIN.
