Local dealership requesting for Volkswagen to authorize an inspection at no charge due to excessive oil consumption. Please see attachment from dealership.
Heater core has clogged after replacement in less than 12 months. This is the 4th occurrence of this failure on this vehicle. Failure has the risk to overheat engine. VW Technical Service Bulletin has been modified multiple times, but still doesn't fully resolve the issue.
Emissions system on engine has premature failures following the TDI scandal modifications, causing the coolant system to fail prematurely. Have had 2 heater cores clogged in the past 3 years, resulting in EGR failures, impacting emissions and potential engine overheats.
The contact owns a 2014 Volkswagen Passat. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, she noticed an excessive amount of fluid underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who performed an unknown repair; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was then taken to another independent mechanic, who performed an oil change and added antifreeze. The next morning, the contact inspected the vehicle and noticed the oil and antifreeze were empty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 119,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Volkswagen Passat. The contact stated while driving approximately 20 MPH and making a left turn, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that he was unable to immediately restart the vehicle. The contact stated that after an hour the vehicle restarted. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent but had become recurring. The vehicle was towed back to the residence after one failure. The contact stated that there was no warning light illuminated. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.
After having parked the car long enough to eat dinner out, I pulled out onto the main street and the car engine showed clear signs of distress, sputtering, missing and ultimately going into what seemed to be limp mode. I was able to pull off the main lanes before the car died and would not re-engage after three attempts to restart. On the third attempt, the car stopped attempting to crank and the dash lights all began to blink until the only extra light that was left was the coil (glow plug indicator). We were left stranded in the street for a while until we could safely exit to push it out of the road and to a safe place. I later had the car towed to my mechanic where the issues were accessed and diagnosed. The causation of the failure is a combination of the first fuel pump failing and disintegrating then dispersing medal shards throughout the fuel system and ruining it entirety. I have never had any indicators or issues with this vehicle. There were no prior warnings or problems with the car. I was very blind sided and stranded in the road then felt forced to put myself in harms way to get it pushed out of danger and prevent an accident with another vehicle.
there is a TDI/AEM Emissions service action CODE: 23Z3 for this year TDI, that requires Dealer Software 'fix" , I have owned the car for a year now , with no contact from VW. Also, have read that there is a Recall on the Heater Cores getting clogged, and causing fogging windsheilds, driving hazard. And no contact from VW ?
THE CAR CONTINUES TO HAVE A SLOW OIL LEAK APPARENTLY ON THE RIGHT REAR OF THE ENGINE. IT HAS BEEN CHECKED AT VW AND WITH OTHER INDEPENDENT MECHANICS WITHOUT RESOLUTION OR FINDING THE SOURCE OF THE LEAK. THERE IS NO OIL EVER ON THE GROUND. THE CAR IS NOT BURNING OIL.
THE HEATING OF THE WINDSHIELD AND SIDE WINDOW DEFROSTING SYSTEM NOT WORKING ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR. VW HAS ALREADY RECALLED THE 2014 PASSAT WITH THE DIESEL ENGINE. GOING BACK HOME FROM TENNESSEE ON THE INTERSTATE AT 66 MPH THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS NEGATIVE 9 THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDSHIELD DEVELOPED ICE ON THE INSIDE OF THE CAR ALONG WITH THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW. WE HAD TO PULL OFF AT A EXIT AND SCRAPE THE INSIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD AND SIDE WINDOW. WE CONTINUED ON ARE TRIP HOME AND HAD TO STOP ABOUT AN HOUR LATER WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. WE HAD TO WAIT FOR THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE TO RISE UP AND THE SUN TO COME OUT. THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDSHIELD AND SIDE WIDOW INSIDE WOULD NOT CLEAR UP AND HAD TO BE TOWEL DRIED ALL THE WAY HOME. TALKED TO VW OF AMERICA THERE COMMENT WAS THEY HAD NOT HEARD OF THE PROBLEM. TALKED TO THE LOCAL VW DEALER AND THERE COMMENT WAS THAT THEY ARE REPLACING HEATER CORES ON OTHER YEARS OF THE PASSAT'S BUT NOT ARE YEAR YET. THEY RECOMMENDED THAT WE PAY FOR THE REPAIR AND TRY TO GET VW OF AMERICA PAY FOR IT. VW HAS WARRANTIED OTHER VWS WITH A LETTER EXTENDING THE WARRANTY ON SOME 2013-2014 PASSAT'S TO 10 YEARS AND UP TO 120K MILES.
While driving on a highway, I heard a mild noise under the hood and things went chaotic, the coolant temperature went high above nominal, the speedometer went crazy, the brakes weren't working, the steering got locked (Not able to move freely) and I literally felt dreadful, I was lucky enough that there were no vehicles front or back of me, otherwise it would have been a fatal incident. I managed to use my hand brakes to slow down and slightly move the vehicle to the shoulder. Oil was leaking underneath the engine at its first look. The vehicle then had to be towed to the dealership. The dealership inspected and confirmed that they found a hole in the engine block and they came back to me and mentioned the whole engine block and also the turbo has to be replaced. The vehicle was right after a fully recommended service from the dealership. no warning or other symptoms appearing.
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED THE VEHICLE SUFFERED A SUDDEN AND CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY 43K ON IT AND WAS JUST PURCHASED AFTER RECEIVING THE TDI UPDATE 3K MILES AGO. THE FUEL PUMP FAILURE OCCURRED AROUND 60-70 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND LEAD TO THE VEHICLE LOSING ALL POWER AND BARELY MAKING IT TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. I HAVE NOW LEARNED THAT THIS FAILURE HAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED MY FUEL SYSTEM AND IS NOT COVERED BY VW EVEN THOUGHTHEY ARE USING THE SAME PART THAT THEY ARE COVERING FOR THE 2010-2013 MODEL YEARS THEY OFFERED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON. NOT ONLY IS THIS INCREDIBLY UNSAFE, AS A CONSUMER THIS TYPE OF UNPREDICTABLE AND COMMON FAILURE IS UNACCEPTABLE.
TIMING CHAIN DECIDED TO GIVE UP AS I WAS DRIVING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY. NOW I'M STUCK HAVING TO POTENTIALLY REPLACE THE ENGINE, A 5K BILL. JUST PURCHASED THE CAR LAST YEAR AND STILL MAKING PAYMENT ON IT. NEVER HAD ANY INDICATION OR ILLUMINATION ON THE DASHBOARD OF WARNING FOR THE ENGINE FAILURE
THIS VEHICLE HAS EXPERIENCED COOLING SYSTEM ISSUES SINCE 49000 MILES. THE CAR NOW HAS 122,500 MILES. THE HEATER CORE HAS BEEN REPLACED 5 TIMES, 2 RADIATORS, EGR COOLER, INTERCOOLER, OIL COOLER, TRANSMISSION COOLER. THESE ARE ALL IMPACTED WITH SOME SORT OF SLUDGE. VW HAD ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE HEATER CORE ADDRESSED BY TSB 80-15-04. AFTER NUMEROUS CONVERSATION WITH VW AND THE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT THE PARTS OTHER THEN THE HEATER CORE THAT IS COVERED UNDER THE TSB HAVE BEEN REPLACED AT NO COST TO ME EXCEPT THE INCONVENIENCE OF THE TIME INVOLVED TO RESOLVE THESE ISSUES. VW IS CLAIMING THAT THESE VEHICLES DO NOT HAVE AN ISSUE OTHER THAN WHAT THE TSB ADDRESSES. I HAVE SINCE TRADED THE CAR IN ON A 2015 PASSAT TDI THAT NOW APPEARS TO BE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUES. THERE ISN'T A TSB OR EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THE COOLING SYSTEM/HEATER ON THIS MODEL. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE, NOT HAVING THE PROPER HEATING SYSTEM COULD IMPAIR VISIBILITY IN THE WINTER.
VEHICLE ENGINE LIGHT COMES AND GOES WAY. THE VEHICLE JERKS/SHAKES WHEN WAITING THE RED SIGNALS AND LOOSES POWER AND HAD TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND START THE VEHICLE.I HAVE DONE ALL THE OIL ACCORDING TO THE RECOMMENDED MILAGE BY THE DEALER. AND ALSO IT LOOSES POWER WHEN TAKING TURNS, IN THAT CASE NEED TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE AND START AGAIN. THIS HAPPENS WHEN VEHICLE WAITS THE RED SIGNAL AND MOVE/SHAKES HEAVILY AND HAD TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND STOP IT. THOUGH VEHICLE IS 5 YEAR AND RAN BARELY 55K AND STARTED SHOWING SYMPTOMS AS MENTIONED AS ABOVE.I STRONGLY BELIEVE THIS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE MANUFACTURING. BELOW IS THE REPORT FROM THE DEALER. ------------------- CAM FAULTS, MISFIRES. SCANNED VEHICLE AND FOUND CAM FAULT P034100, ALL CYLINDER MISFIRES FAULTS. TRACED FAULT TO TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER FAILURE. ------------------------ I HAVE ALSO ATTACHED THE INVOICE AND DIAGNOSES RESULTS ABOUT THE ISSUE. AND ALSO FOUND IN INTERNET RELATED TO THE SAME ISSUE THAT THEY HAVE SEEN OTHER VW VEHICLES. THE ISSUE SEEMS TO BE SIMILAR, HOWEVER VW/VW DEALER SEEMS NOT ACCEPTING AND DOING REPAIR FOR FREE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE ELECTRONIC POWER CONTROL INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE WOULD SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO VOLKSWAGEN OF SOUTH ATLANTA (4305 JONESBORO RD, UNION CITY, GA) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE IT STOPPED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC AND I WAS TOLD THAT MY TIMING CHAIN WAS BROKEN. I FOUND IT IRONIC THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON OTHER MODELS BUT NOT MINE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNDISCLOSED SPEED, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL ODOR IN THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED BY HER SISTER TO CHECK THE OIL LEVEL. THE CONTACT CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL AND NOTICED THAT THERE WAS NO OIL ON THE DIPSTICK. THE CONTACT ADDED OIL TO THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A WARNING LIGHT WAS NOT DISPLAYED TO INFORM OF A LOW OIL LEVEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BARTLESVILLE CHRYSLER DODGE RAM JEEP LOCATED AT (3250 SE WASHINGTON BLVD, BARTLESVILLE, OK 74006), WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED AND THE TECHNICIAN FOUND NO OIL LEAKS. THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO TAKEN TO DON THORNTON VOLKSWAGEN OF TULSA LOCATED AT (4240 S. MEMORIAL DR, TULSA, OK 74145) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE OIL CAP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
THE HEATER CORE IN MY 2014 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT TDI HAS FAILED AND BEEN REPLACED FOUR TIMES WITHIN THE LAST 2 YEARS. THERE IS/WAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY RELATED TO THE HEATER CORE FAILURE BUT THERE HAS NOT YET BEEN A RECALL DESPITE AN OBVIOUS DEFECT WITH THE HEATER CORES. FAILURE 1, 11/28/2016- REPORTED AS INSUFFICIENT HEAT, PRIMARILY PASSENGER SIDE - WARRANTY COVERED FAILURE 2, 06/30/2017- IDENTIFIED BY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALERT- WARRANTY COVERED FAILURE 3, 0/7/10/2017- IDENTIFIED BY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALERT, WARRANTY COVERED FAILURE 4, 11/28/2017- REPORTED AS INSUFFICIENT HEAT- PRIMARILY ON PASSENGER SIDE- ORIGINALLY REPORTED ON 10/26/2018- VW DECLINED TO COVER UNDER WARRANTY. WITHOUT A PROPERLY FUNCTIONING HEATER CORE, THE WINDSHIELD DEFROSTER WILL NOT HAVE HEAT. IN THIS SITUATION, THE DRIVER WILL HAVE DIFFICULTY MAINTAINING A CLEAR WINDSHIELD, WHICH WILL CREATE A HAZARDOUS SITUATION. THE LACK OF HEAT IN THE VEHICLE CAN ALSO BE UNSAFE IN SOME CLIMATES.
WE TOOK THE CAR IN FOR MAINTENANCE TO THE DEALERSHIP A MONTH AGO. IT WAS A LITTLE LOUD WHICH WAS EVIDENT. THE DEALERS MECHANIC SAID THE CAR WAS FINE. A FEW WEEKS AGO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON (STEADY NOT BLINKING). WE TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND FOUND OUT THAT THE TIMING TENSIONER (APPARENTLY A KNOWN VEHICLE ISSUE ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC), AND THAT IT HAD DAMAGED THE ENGINE TO THE POINT IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IT HAS A 1.8T, AND I AM CURIOUS EXACTLY HOW PREVALENT THIS PROBLEM IS.
STARTING GETTING TIMING CODE ERRORS. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THE TIMING CHAIN IS BAD AND WILL COST NEARLY $4000 TO REPLACE. LOOKED ONLINE AND THIS IS A COMMON OCCURENCE WITH THE MAKE AND MODEL OF THIS CAR. WANT TO MAKE SURE THEY DON'T GET AWAY WITH THIS. THEY SHOULD BE RECALLING THIS AND MAKING THE REPAIRS.
