Noticed large amount of oil on driveway. Check engine light came on. Took it to the VW dealer. They advised that there is a recurring problem with 2022 Tiguan, where a premature head gasket failure causes engine and coolant leaks. Requires a cylinder head replacement. Since a large number is affected, there is a 8-10 back order of the part. Also, I was told that VW is repairing the defect under Service Bulletin TSB 15-23-01 or TSB /action 2071245, however they would not honor it in my case since the vehicle has 90000 miles.
Check Engine light illuminated, code: P2402 #07E8 EVAP SYSTEM LEAK DETECTION PUMP CONTROL CIRCUIT HIGH. Checked online and same year, same model have recall for same issue.
Travel Assist Not Available notification pops up on the dashboard and makes a loud distracting Ding noise randomly and repeatedly. Volkswagen has no fix for it except “replace the steering wheel” which I’ve done twice. They need to push a software update so I can silence this thing.
I am filing this complaint because my Volkswagen Tiguan has a serious and ongoing engine issue involving excessive oil consumption and a faulty cylinder head. The vehicle burns through an abnormal amount of oil between changes, requiring constant top‑offs, sometimes as frequently as every few hundred miles. Despite regularly adding oil and following all manufacturer‑recommended maintenance, the issue continues to worsen. The dealership has confirmed that the cylinder head is defective, which is causing the engine to consume oil at an extremely accelerated rate. However, I have been told the replacement cylinder head is on national backorder, and there is currently no estimated timeframe for when the part will be available. This means I am forced to continue driving a vehicle with a known, documented engine defect that can: Lead to engine stalling Create loss of power while driving Increase the risk of engine seizure Potentially cause a safety hazard on the road Additionally, being required to constantly add oil just to keep the vehicle operable is not only unsafe but financially unreasonable. The problem remains unresolved despite multiple service visits, documentation, and repeated oil consumption tests. This is a safety issue, not just a maintenance concern, because the engine can fail unexpectedly if the oil drops too quickly. I believe this is a significant defect affecting multiple Volkswagen vehicles and should be investigated by NHTSA. I request that NHTSA open a formal investigation into the excessive oil consumption and cylinder head defects on Volkswagen Tiguans, as owners should not be left with unsafe vehicles due to known manufacturing issues and unavailable critical engine components.
I have a 2022 Tiguan SEL R-Line with constant beeping of Lane assist not available.The steering wheel was replaced before but now i'm no longer in warranty but the lane assist not available is still happening. there is a NHTSA Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 2070207/1 but it only applies for warranty coverage vehicles.
The "Travel Assist currently not available" chimes every 30 seconds or so sometimes back to back constantly which is incredibly distracting and annoying. It causes me to lose focus of the road every time it pops up on the screen behind my steering wheel.
After replacing cylinder head, rack and pinion and steering assist I went to dealer just after warranty passed they told me that the oil separator and auxiliary/ secondary water pump. Car continues to have issues. Mainly with engine. Car could break down when driving with no oil getting to engine
Travel Assist option is controlled by a sensor in the steering wheel. There is no way to disable it. When the sensor malfunctions, it plays an extremely loud and repetitive beep that cannot be disabled. It’s extremely distracting while I drive and happens every 30-45 seconds.
The cylinder head has passages that collect carbon build up that build up outside of general maintenance that clog the cylinder head and can eventually lead to combustion failure. This car has been taken to an independent, reputable mechanic in the area, as well as now the dealer. Dealer has confirmed they have at least 4 other vehicles currently with the same issue in just this one location, and parts replacement to remedy the issue (new cylinder heads) are on back order (over 2500 on order in US). This car has been caught early, before this engine failure, as the check engine light first came up and multiple rounds of mechanic checking and trying to fix have lead to this conclusion. Car at this time has not failed in a safety situation, but has the potential to if not remedied, by engine failing while driving. Engine has been inspected by mechanic, and is currently being inspected by manufacturer. Error code was presented once reading the module, and check engine light is visible to prompt servicing the car (code for emissions)
I had a warning light for lane assist not working that would ding constantly. Dealer said known issue. Replaced steering wheel. Now I’m out of warranty at 59000 miles and it needs another steering wheel. They did not fix the issue. It is part of the airbag system and I’m worried about the lane assist which I can’t turn off might go haywire and make vehicle swerve itself into other cars.
-The lane keep assist keep intermittently turn on and off along with my vehicles warning light on the dash. -The light is very distracting when driving. It'll take my eyes off the road when it turns off. It'll turn off but then back on, and sounding the warning alarm in my car. -Reading TSB, it's a common issue and the fix is replacing the whole steering wheel -Vehicle hasn't been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance rep. -We didn't have any errors happen, and it just popped up on February 25th, 2026. My biggest concern is safety. I have a toddler that always comes with when I have to drive, I don't want anything with my steering or taking my eyes off the road.
The wipers of this car go on and off automatically and you are not able to turn off the feature. They go on without rain or any debris on the windshield. I already took it to a Volkswagen dealer and they accepted the error and replaced the steering wheel, saying this was the cause. With the new steering wheel, the problem is still going on and they don’t offer any solutions because they don’t understand what is happening to the car. This is very distracting and I’ve been close to crashing due to the wipers going on and off consistently. I researched on the internet and there are several VW cars with this issue and no solutions found.
This vehicle was purchased in 2021, while the vehicle was under warranty, we had issues with the travel assist 2 times. The vehicle was taken twice to the main VW dealership to fix the issue with the travel assist. Both times they change the entire steering mechanism and the vehicle worked fine after that. Recently, the car started having issues again with the travel assist but now it’s not under warranty anymore. The main issue it’s that it’s unstoppable noise and alerts while driving and it is very distracting and it’s unsafe. I have tried to contact the dealership regarding this issue however because the car is not under warranty anymore, the price is unreasonable. I do believe there has been always a main issue with the car since we purchased it in 2021. I would really like some help with this matter, Thank you
The vehicle’s infotainment display intermittently freezes or shuts off while the vehicle is in operation. When this occurs, the rear-view backup camera display also fails or becomes unavailable. The malfunction happens randomly during normal driving conditions. This presents a safety concern because the driver relies on the navigation display while driving. When the screen suddenly freezes or shuts down, it distracts the driver and may require the driver to attempt to restart or troubleshoot the system while operating the vehicle. In addition, the loss of the backup camera function creates a safety risk when reversing. The vehicle was taken to an authorized Volkswagen dealership for diagnosis. The dealership acknowledged that the symptoms are identical to those addressed in existing Volkswagen recalls and technical service bulletins affecting vehicles of the same model year. The repair procedure described by the dealership is the same as the recall repair: first perform a software update, and if the issue persists, replace the control module. However, despite the identical symptoms and repair procedure, this specific vehicle’s VIN was not included in the recall population. Because the vehicle was also outside the warranty period, the dealership required the owner to pay for the repair. The owner contacted Volkswagen Customer CARE and the case was escalated to a regional case manager. The request for assistance was denied solely on the basis that the VIN was not included in the recall and that the warranty had expired, even though the problem and repair were identical to the known recall issue. As a result, the owner was required to pay approximately 1,600 for the repair. Constantly beeps travel assist unavailable, steering wheel has already been replaced but it started again, no way to turn off the constant beeping while you are driving
An error, "Travel Assist Not Working" intermittently pops up and then disappears. This has been happening for several months. Sometimes many times per minute. In one instance, up to 10x in one minute. It is a safety issue as it has a loud ding every time it happens and sometimes it surprises me and distracts me from driving. Because there is no common thing that causes the error to pop up, it has been difficult to reproduce. When it is doing it, videos have been taken to show the error. Dealer states there this no error code when they look over the vehicle. There is a warning that pops up on the display and sometimes a small yellow error exclamation point stays on for about one minute, other times it disappears right away.
The vehicle's sunroof glass failed catastrophically and shattered spontaneously without any external impact or contributing factor. The glass was not safety glass and shattered into sharp shards, dispersing throughout the vehicle interior, including the rear seating area. This failure posed a serious safety risk, as glass shards caused minor injuries to my skin, and could have resulted in significant injury had a child or pet been seated in the back. The incident has not been reproduced; however, the damage was confirmed and repaired by the authorized dealership, which replaced the sunroof glass, frame, and sunshade due to extensive damage. The vehicle was inspected by the dealership, and a comprehensive insurance claim was filed. No warning lamps, messages, or symptoms were present prior to the failure, and the event occurred without warning.
The driver-side seat belt buckle is getting stuck and does not release the seat belt when the release button is pressed.
The contact owns a 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to O'Reilly, where an unknown diagnostic result was provided. The vehicle was taken to the used car dealer where it was purchased, and the engine was disassembled. The dealer determined that the cylinder head was cracked. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 MPH after the repair, the vehicle stalled in the middle of the roadway. The vehicle was restarted after an extended while; however, the vehicle was bucking while driving. The vehicle was driven to the dealer, where an unknown repair was performed; however, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle was bucking and making an abnormally loud sound while driving. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was test-driven, and the failure was duplicated. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted while attempting to drive the vehicle out of the dealer's parking lot. The vehicle remained with the dealer. The dealer then advised the contact to inform the insurance company of the failure; however, the insurance company referred the contact back to the dealer because the failure was not caused by a crash. The dealer was advised accordingly and threatened to tow the vehicle at the contact's expense and to charge the contact for vehicle rental if the contact did not return the rental. The contact advised the dealer that the vehicle was not repaired and was unsafe to drive. The vehicle was not repaired. The Volkswagen dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 67,000.
5 complaints about oil consumption, 3 check engine lights where had to pull over due to car not running properly. Vehicle putters upon acceleration. Replaced leak detection pump, intake and exhaust system stem seals, oil separator, auxiliary bracket and seal and EVAP sensor.
Went to work, drove home, went to take my daughter to her friends and noticed my windshield on the passenger side was cracked big time. Just from sitting in my driveway.
This first happened while I was driving. First, it started with a loud warning tone along with the notice on the console telling the travel assist is currently not available. It’ll be there for a few minutes and then it will go away. A couple of months later during the winter of December 2025- January 2026. It was constantly a problem. Every time I drove every 2 to 5 minutes it will give me the same loud beep along with the notice. It didn’t matter whether I was using the feature or not it kept constantly beeping. In the best of times it was very annoying and in the worst of times it just is so loud that it scares me. I tried so many things to fix it. I would often try to clean the cameras. And I couldn’t use the lane keeping assistance at all through all this. There is a feature I’ve been using extensively and I think it’s important for having helped me driving safely in the highway. In the end, it was so distracting I’m not having the lane keeping Assistance that I was forced to go get it repaired. That’s when I understood that it was a widely reported issue.

Appears linked to known EA888 engine issues in recent Tiguans (ongoing class action on oil consumption). Request NHTSA review as potential safety defect, including repair delays amplifying risk. The contact owns a 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan. The contact stated that the vehicle had been at the dealer since November 2025 unrepaired regarding the side curtain air bag. The dealer informed the contact that Part Number: 5NN880742G; was on backorder. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time to provide the part for the repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue but offered no assistance. The contact had not experienced a failure.
My overhead console has come lose. VW will not fix under extended warranty. It is a known issue and letters weren’t sent out about a fix for my year model but I did not get one.
Excessive oil consumption caused by the PCV Valve failing. The PCV Valve failed causing pressure build up in the engine which luckily for me only caused the valve stem seals to pop out of position on the exhaust valves. This caused oil to leak into the combustion chambers and burn through the exhaust. In other known cases this failure has caused the oil pan and timing covers to Crack and vehicle will lose its oil all over the roadway. No check engine light came on for me only low oil light every 800 miles starting around the 70,000 mile mark. Dealership determined the cause and failure. Manufacturer determined the cylinder head needed replaced. Dropped car off on Nov. 7 2025 and was given a loaner. Part on backorder. Part came in in February and installed. During test drive the cylinder head failed internal and they had to order the same part again. 6 loaner cars later finally got car back on April 10 2026. Extended warranty covered all but $100 of the $4800 cost.
I had routine oil change. I picked up my car and immediately the red warning light came on. I called garage. They said it was PVC valve for high pressure. I fixed that. This is next routine oil change. Now the accessory bracket seal and oil cooler seal need to be repaired. My car only has 68,340k on it. I see there are many complaints on line about this issue.
PCV failure that requires replacement of Cylinder head.
I was informed from the Volkswagen dealership of where I purchased the vehicle that there are malfunctions with the Lane Assist system and other driver assistance functions caused by a fault in the steering wheel. However, I was also told that Volkswagen no longer manufactures or provides a replacement steering wheel for my vehicle. This leaves me without a viable solution to restore the safety systems that are integral to the vehicle’s operation.
I am reaching out regarding ongoing and escalating issues with my 2022 VW Tiguan R-Line Black. Over the past year, I have had to stop at Jiffy Lube multiple times because the oil level kept running low, and they repeatedly topped it off. I found this unusual, given how recently oil changes and services had been performed. This summer, the vehicle began experiencing episodes of stuttering and stalling, accompanied by smoke from the tailpipe. Over Labor Day weekend, after another stall, I brought the car into the VW dealership. They investigated but were unable to identify the cause. Unfortunately, the situation has now worsened. Today alone, the car stalled twice — both times in the middle of traffic. The “check oil level” warning light came on, followed shortly by the “check engine” light. There was also a significant amount of smoke coming from the tailpipe. This is not only a mechanical issue but also a serious safety concern. I have two children, and I am deeply concerned for their lives and safety when driving a vehicle that stalls unpredictably in traffic. At this point, the car feels unsafe and unreliable, and I am unsure how to proceed. Please advise me on next steps regarding potential legal recourse, warranty coverage, or claims I may pursue. Subject: Ongoing Mechanical and Electrical Issues – 2022 VW Tiguan I’m experiencing ongoing issues with my 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan, purchased new and maintained under single ownership. Primary Issue: The vehicle shuts off unexpectedly under various driving conditions—while accelerating on the highway, from a stop at traffic lights, and especially when going uphill or over high bridges. The issue initially occurred once or twice a year around 45,000 miles but has become more frequent. As of 70,000 miles, it now happens on a weekly basis. When this happens, the only way to temporarily resolve the issue is to turn off the vehicle completely and wait approximately 5 minutes before restarting. Recent Maintenance Completed: New car battery (3 battery since purchase of car) New spark plugs (Replaced in June 2025) Regular oil changes (every 3000 miles) New engine air filter and cabin air filter (yearly) Additional Symptoms: The rear-view camera frequently times out or fails to display when reversing. The dealership has not been able to confirm the cause but has mentioned a potential error code P30DE00, suggesting alternator replacement. However, a second opinion found no active error codes, leaving the root cause unclear. I'm seeking a definitive diagnosis and a resolution plan, as the issue has become a safety concern.
Due to a faulty PCV valve, the entire engine wiring harness needed to be replaced at 69,000 miles. The valve cover and camshafts were replaced, engine components were reassembled with mandatory bolts and gaskets. Lower timing cover was leaking on the passenger side due to the faulty PCV valve and the Caracole canister and leak detection pump. These were replaced along with the canister due to oil contamination. The EVAP lines were blown out and the N80 valve was replaced. As a result, the vehicle sustained $7,200 in repairs because of the damage to the engine due to the faulty PCV valve.
My vehicle has relatively low miles on it, it does not get driven very often. Once I had done the first oil change I had to pay for after the dealer covered maintenance warranty was over for the oil changes was when I started having the problems. Three separate times the low oil light came on the dash and I had to add oil to my engine, about a total of 3 quartz. I told the first dealer that I was having this issue and they didn’t believe what I was saying and didn’t want to check anything. I told them to do an oil consumption test but because I had having such a hard time with them I went to a different dealer to get it look at. Under dealer warranty, they conducted the oil consumption test and after 600 miles I was to bring it back. When they did a volume displacement test, they said there was metal shaving in my oil when they went to drain the oil and they had to change the engine and turbo. My car was around 45,200 miles when it was said to be replaced. Ever since they said they replaced it the engine is very noisy, they didn’t put enough oil in the engine and it doesn’t even look like they replaced the engine at all. None of the hoses has signs that they were removed or replaced, bolts and nuts not removed and the transmission bolts don’t look they have been removed from the engine or got a new seal. This engine is not reliable at all. Also the vehicle certification label that should be in my wheel well and in my owners manual is not there. I can not find it anywhere.
Vehicle started smoking last September/October (2025) after catching several examples of it on camera, VW says it needs new heads. I’ve been on a “waiting list” ever since. The vehicle continues to get worse, recently the low oil light came on as it burns oil excessively . I’ve called VW and they’ve documented it. I’m concerned because I work out of town - My wife drives this car with our 2 1/2 year old and 5 month old.
My 2022 keeps burning oil and I am having to put a quart to a quart and a half of oil about every 10 days into my car
This stalling issue has occurred three times so far, most recently on [XXX], while exiting [XXX] . Each time, the stall happens when I attempt to accelerate after coming to a complete stop in traffic, at a light, or at a stop sign. When it occurs, the vehicle will not move forward, and multiple rapid warning messages appear on the dashboard. The only way to recover is to shift into Park, power the car off, and then restart the engine. After restarting, the vehicle will usually operate normally, allowing me to continue driving. I brought to VW Dealership Pasadena -- they have been unable to diagnose the cause of stalling! Text from Dealership below! The car was in the cruise control with auto mode and it just veered to the left from a car in front and crashed into the median and totaled the car.
The contact owns a 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan. The contact stated that after an oil change, additional oil needed to be added to the engine. The oil light was illuminated. The contact stated that when the brake pedal was depressed, the vehicle was slow to respond. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was eventually diagnosed, and determined that the oil was leaking into the valve. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. While driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle began to smoke and then stalled. The brake lines were flushed. The contact had an altercation with the dealer and was banned from the location. The manufacturer was contacted, and opened a case, but declined a buyback. There was no additional communication. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000.
My vehicle has a known manufacturing defect issue that has already been addressed in a Volkswagen Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) which results in an oil consumption issue with 2022 and 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan models. Vehicle problem was confirmed and repaired once by dealership however same oil consumption issue has happened again that was confirmed by dealership. Dealership presently is unable to repair because necessary replacement parts are unavailable at this time.
I had unlocked the doors with the botton on the door handle with my key in my purse. I was putting my kids in the car and put the key in the car. I closed all of the doors with the key in the car and it automatically locked with the car off in the summer heat. Luckily my oldest was able to unlock the car from the inside. My other child is 2 and wouldn’t have been able to do it.
My 22 Volkswagen Tiguan could very well be apart of the class action lawsuit that is happening right now with oil consumption issues my vehicle only has 45,000 miles and is consuming 1 quart of oil every 1200 miles started noticing oil loss back in July

I have reported my Tiguans consuming oil at a rate significantly higher than what's expected between oil changes and I was informed that is normal, yet I still did not get any resolution on this matter. I am experiencing a serious safety issue with my 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan involving delayed acceleration. The problem occurs intermittently but frequently: when pressing the gas pedal from a complete stop or low-speed situation (such as turning or merging), there is often a 5–10 second delay before the vehicle responds and begins accelerating. During this lag, the engine does not rev, and the vehicle does not move, leaving me and my passengers vulnerable in intersections, while turning into traffic, or merging onto highways. This issue has occurred multiple times since purchase, and has created multiple near-miss situations, including once where I attempted to cross a two-lane road and the vehicle did not move for several seconds after pressing the accelerator. Other drivers had to brake abruptly to avoid collision. I brought the vehicle to an authorized Volkswagen dealer twice. They were unable to replicate the issue and returned the car without repair. The third visit is currently being scheduled. No warning lights or diagnostic codes were present, and the dealer stated they could not reproduce the problem. Volkswagen has not issued a fix to my knowledge. The vehicle has not been inspected by police or insurance. There were no warning lamps or messages at the time of the failures. The issue began within the first few months of ownership and has persisted intermittently for the past several months. I paid $30,000 cash for this vehicle in 2023 and it is still under warranty. This issue presents an ongoing safety hazard and significantly reduces my confidence in the vehicle’s ability to respond in traffic. Based on forums and consumer reports, I have reason to believe this is a known issue affecting multiple VW Tiguan vehicles of the same model year. On 7/22/25, I started an oil consumption test. It was eventually diagnosed that it was an issue because the cylinder head was replaced 9/25/25. Then a total engine replacement 1/26/2026 and on 2/10/2026 the dipstick tube was replaced. The car has consistently had engine oil consumption and still under the manufacturer warranty. It’s a lemon
This vehicle has burned oil and needed regular additional oil fills between recommended oil change. We have taken the car to Volkswagen Northampton for regular oil changes who have never dealt with the oil leak or burning issue. As a result of this the car now at 64k miles needs a new engine. It has piston issues , timing belt issues, , communication modules between the eco and bmc issues, and cam shaft timing issues. Our mechanic is suggesting a new engine. VW of America will not assist us saying there is nothing they can do.
My VW is leaking so much oil. I have been reading SO much about VW and lots of unhappy people in regards to the bills they have to pay to fix oil leaks, pct valves, upper and lower oil pans. One mechanic told me he'd never own a VW because of this leaking oil issue. Due to the extent of people affected, I was hoping there would be an extended warranty issued for people owning faulty 2018 - 2023 VW's. I was told this would be the next place to make a complaint. My car is only 3 years old! Of course I'm at 65k, just over the 50K warranty. Please consider urging VW to cover the costs associated with a well-known oil leak problem, PLEASE!
My Volkswagen Tiguan suddenly and without warning blew a large amount of smoke out of the exhaust along with oil while driving at highway speeds - causing the cars behind me to lose visibility and possibly be covered with oil further reducing their visibility due to the VW manufacturers faulty crankcase breather/pcv valve. After this happened the car dash lit up with warnings and went into "limp mode" where I was not able to exceed 2500 rpm which is very dangerous when on the highway - luckily for my safety at this point I was on a side road. When I checked the engine I found no oil was left in it, it had been sprayed all underneath and up the back, which reduced visibility in the window. I was responsible for towing it to the dealer and was given no loaner despite being under warranty. Leaving myself and children without a vehicle. The dealer confirmed that my VW Tiguan had a faulty crankcase breather which caused over pressurization and pushed up the valve seals and cracked the oil pan. They only replaced those things and not the fouled spark plugs or oil filter from the crankcase breather failure which can cause more engine damage and dirty emissions.
The contact owns a 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan. The contact stated that while driving on a highway at 60 MPH, the vehicle unintendedly decelerated to 25 MPH. The Electronic Power Control system (EPC) warning light was illuminated, and the message "Max Engine Speed - 3,000 RPM" was displayed. The local dealer was contacted and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that it was a known failure; however, no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 58,000.

I have had several incidents where the forward collision activated for no reason. I didn’t keep track of dates because I did t realize I would need to. Then I began having other issues: Incident 1 June 7, 2025: i was driving down the road and lost all power. Car wouldn’t start back up. Got a jumpstart and didn’t have any issues like that after that for two months. Issue 2: July 3, 2025: Infotainment center went completely black. Callled dealership and they told me it wasn’t under warranty. July 11, 2025: backup camera came on in reverse. August 3, 2025: backup camera came on while in reverse. August 15. 2025: backup camera came on in reverse. August 27, 2025: went to start car for in morning and it start, just made strange sounds along with clicking. Put on battery charger for 20 minutes, started it and let run for a few minutes. It was fine after that. August 27, 2025: displayed the welcome to Volkswagen three times today. Backup camera came on. August 28, 2025: sitting in my car without power on and the welcome to Volkswagen displayed on infotainment screen.
