This page combines three types of NHTSA data: recall campaigns (official manufacturer or government actions), owner complaints (unverified consumer reports), and crash test ratings (where available). A vehicle with many complaints is not necessarily less reliable — complaint volume correlates with sales volume and vehicle age. Recalls indicate identified defects, not overall quality. To compare this model year with others, use the year navigation in the sidebar or return to the model overview page.

Three separate safety incidents occurred within the last 3 months. INCIDENT 1: On at least two occasions while turning, the steering felt aggressive and notchy, resisting or jerking unexpectedly during the turn. INCIDENT 2: While driving on the Florida Turnpike at approximately 80 mph southbound around 7:00 AM, the vehicle suddenly reacted as if detecting an obstacle and applied what felt like emergency braking. No vehicle or obstacle was present in my lane or adjacent lanes. INCIDENT 3 (most serious): While parked in a parking lot, I applied the brake, shifted to Drive, and upon releasing the brake the vehicle accelerated abruptly with no input on the accelerator pedal. A witness confirmed no accelerator was pressed. Vehicle is currently at authorized Volvo dealership for diagnosis. Root cause not yet identified.
I've owned the EX30 for approximately 3 months. During that time, there have been approx. 5 incidents where after backing the car from a parking spot and switching to drive mode, the entire navigation screen goes blank and the screen displays the car as being in reverse mode. After being advised by Red Bank Volvo, NJ that this likely would be rectified during a major software update, I installed 2 major updates without a resolution to this problem - shortly after the 2nd update, I experienced the issue again. On 11/7/25 I brought the car to service and was told there were no error codes and software was up-to-date so they could do nothing. I called Volvo Customer Service to report the issue, and they advised bringing the car back to service, where a remote diagnostic assessment could be performed with corporate service. I was not advised by Red Bank Volvo that this was an option.
When the car is in drive and I am driving the screen shows a message that the car cannot do a function because the car is in reverse. See photos.
On February 26, 2025 at about 3 - 3:30 p.m. I was turning into a parking space in a parking lot. I stopped my car just outside of the parking space and was turning left into the space. I lightly pressed the accelerator, as I have done hundreds of thousands of times since I started driving 57 years ago. The car accelerated, leaping forward and revving so fast that the car drove over a concrete divide (about 5 inches above the ground and 2 feet wide), flattened a sign, and landed on two cars that were parked on the other side of the divide. It was daylight and sunny. There were no obstructions.
