MY VOLVO DEALER RETURNED MY S60 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE LEASE WAS UP BECAUSE OF A RECURRING PROBLEM WHERE MY CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND THEN IT WOULD STOP COMPLETELY. I LOST COUNT OF THE NUMBER OF TIMES THIS HAPPENED BUT WHEN MY 19 YEAR OLD HAD THIS HAPPEN IN THE MIDDLE OF A DOWNTOWN AREA I COULD NOT LIVE WITH THIS CAR ANY LONGER. THE DEALER TRIED TO FIX THE VEHICLE TO NO AVAIL. *NM
I HAVE A VOLVO S60 WITH 17" LOW PROFILE PIRELLI P6 FOUR SEASON TIRES. I HAVE 23,000 MILES ON THE CAR AND HAVE HAD TO REPLACE 5 TIRES FOR SIDE WALL FAILURE AND UNEXPLAINED FLAT TIRES( NO PUNCTURES) I FOUND A WEB SITE THAT LISTS 12 PAGES OF COMPLAINTS BY OTHER VOLVO AND AUDI OWNERS WITH THE SAME FAILURES AND MYSTERIOUS FLATS. PIRELLI AND VOLVO HAVE NOT RESPONDED TO THE PROBLEM. *JB
I WAS HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE CAR STALLING AND UPON TAKING MY 2002 VOLVO S 60 TO THE DEALER (BOZZANNI VOLVO IN COVINA, CA. THEY HANDLED THAT PROBLEM BY CLEANING THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY FOR A COST OF ABOUT $500.00. ABOUT TWO MONTHS LATER THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED AND THIS TIME THEY REPLACED THE ENTIRE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY FOR A COST OF ABOUT $800.00. WHEN I QUESTIONED THE DEALER ABOUT THE PROBLEM, HE TOLD ME THAT IT WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND THAT THE REPAIR CHARGE AND REPAIR ITSELF WAS NECESSARY AND THAT THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE THEY COULD DO. THE CAR HAD ABOUT 55,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER AND I FELT THAT THEY DID NOT DO THE JOB PROPERLY IN THE FIRST PLACE AND THAT THE REPAIR WORK SHOULD HAVE BEEN COMPLETED UNDER WARRANTY. I HAVE BEEN KEEPING UP WITH THE CURRENT INVESTIGATIONS ON VOLVO AND THEIR THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY FAILURES. WHILE MY CAR IS AN EARLY 2002 MILD PRESSURE TURBO, I FEEL THAT CURRENT INVESTIGATION SHOULD ENCOMPASS OTHER YEARS BECAUSE THE PROBLEMS IS QUITE SIMILAR. THIS OCCURRED EARLY ON IN 2005 AND I HAVE THE OLD PARTS AND THE DEALER PAPERWORK ON THE REPAIR. *JB
DT: 2002 VOLVO S60. THE CONTACT STATED THE ENGINE TURNED OFF WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS GOING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH WHEN THIS OCCURRED. HE WAS THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY COULD NOT FIND THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. THIS HAPPENED IN JANUARY 2005. THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECURRENCE. *AK
THE VEHICLE'S IGNITION FAN REMAINED LIT AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED. *BF THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER BUT THE FOUND NOTING WRONG. *NM
I HAVE A 2002 VOLVO S60 EQUIPPED WITH PIRELLI P6 235/45 R17'S AS OEM OPTION. I HAVE LESS THAN 25,000 MILES ON MY CAR AND I HAVE REPLACED 3 OF THESE TIRES ALREADY. THE FIRST ONE BLEW OUT WITH LESS THAN 5,000 MILES DRIVEN, THE SECOND ONE AT 18,500 AND THE LAST ONE, WHICH ALMOST COST ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY, WITH 22,500 DRIVEN MILES. ALL THREE FAILURES WERE ON THE SIDEWALL OF THE TIRE AND NONE COULD BE REPAIRED. THE P6'S SUPPOSEDLY COME WITH 50,000 MILES WARRANTY ON THEM. VOLVO CUSTOMER SERVICE CLAIMS FAILURES ARE DUE TO ROAD CONDITIONS IN NE USA AND ALSO DUE TO THE FACT THAT THESE ARE "HIGH PERFORMANCE TIRES": THEY SEEM TO FORGET THAT TIRE SAFETY IS THE BASIC PERFORMANCE CRITERIA. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND OTHER "HIGH PERFORMANCE TIRES" DO NOT SEEM TO FAIL AS OFTEN AS PIRELLI P6'S. I'M CONVINCED THAT THESE TIRES ARE JUNK AND I WILL REPLACE ALL FOUR BEFORE WINTER DRIVING CONDITIONS START. *JB
WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED REAR SIDE TIRE SIDEWALL SEPARATED. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
STEERING WHEEL FROZE AND VEHICLE COULD NOT ACCELERATE. TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO FOUND OUT THAT THE CAUSE WAS A DEFECT IN THE AXLE. *LA WHEN THE CONSUMER MANAGED TO PULL OVER AND PLACED THE VEHICLE INTO PARK, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO MOVE. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION, THE IGNITION CHIP HAD TO BE CHANGED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START.
THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS WITH IT'S STEERING AND GAS PEDAL. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PLACED IN PARK IT CONTINUED TO MOVE. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *NM THE IGNITION CHIP HAD TO BE REPLACED, BECAUSE THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. WHILE DRIVING, THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE WOULD ACCELERATE, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS FROZEN AND THE WINDOWS WERE UNCONTROLLABLY MOVING UPWARD AND DOWNWARD, WHEN THE CONSUMER PLACED THE GEAR INTO PARK, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO MOVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS A DEFECT WITH THE AXLE. *JB
I HAVE HAD MANY PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION, CAR WILL STALL IN TRAFFIC, CAR WOULD NOT START AT ALL. THIS CAR HAS BEEN IN SERVICE MANY MANY TIMES. THE PROBLEMS PERSIST. I HAVE SENT 9 EMAILS TO THEIR HEAD QUARTERS SINCE 12/5, NO REPLY. *LA
"ENGINE SYSTEM SERVICE REQUIRED" MESSAGE INTERMITTENTLY APPEARED IN MESSAGE WINDOW, WITH CAUTION SIGN (LIGHTED ORANGE TRIANGLE). GAS PEDAL POSITION SENSOR FAILURE. *AK
THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT LOST TENSION WHILE DRIVING AND COMPLETELY UNROLLED AND WAS NO LONGER FUNCTIONAL. I CONTACTED MY NEAREST DEALER WHICH IS 30 MILES AWAY AND THEY ADVISED THAT THEY DID NOT FEEL THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE AND TO CONTACT VOLVO ON CALL. I DID THIS AND WAS TOLD THAT BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL DRIVEABLE IT WOULD NOT BE TOWED. VOLVO CUSTOMER SERVICE ADVISED THE SAME. I FOLLOWED UP WITH AN EMAIL TO VOLVO CUSTOMER SERVICE AND TO DATE I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY RESPONSE DESPITE RECEIPT OF CONFIRMATION OF MY E-MAILS. ON 7-10-03, I FINALLY DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WITH NO SEAT BELT. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN PARKED SINCE 7-7-03. THE PART WAS ORDERED AND WILL BE AVAILABLE 7-14-03. IT SEEMS VOLVO HAD NO CONCERN FOR MY SAFETY OR THE FACT THAT I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE IN VIOLATION OF FL STATUTES - A COMPANY SUPPOSEDLY "COMMITTED TO SAFETY."*AK
WHEN MAKING A SHARP TURN THE VEHICLE FELT LIKE IT WAS TAILING AND DID NOT TRACK PROPERLY. IT ALSO FELT LIKE IT WAS GOING TO SPIN OUT OF CONTROL. THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN CONTACTED SEVERAL TIMES, BUT THE CAUSE OR A REMEDY TO THE PROBLEM HAD NOT BEEN FOUND. *JB
I HAVE A 2002 VOLVO S 60 AWD WITH THE OPTIONAL 17" X 7.5" "THOR" WHEELS AND PIRELLI TIRES. I HAVE BEEN THROUGH 3 SETS OF PIRELLI TIRES IN LESS THAN 20,000 MILES. PIRELLI IS NOT INTERESTED IN THIS ISSUE AS REPEATED ATTEMPTS TO CONTACT THEM HAVE PROVEN UNSUCCESSFUL. DUE TO THE ONGOING PROBLEMS I AM HAVING WITH MY VEHICLE'S TIRES, I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING THE PIRELLI TIRES COMBINED WITH THE VOLVO S 60 AWD AND HAVE FOUND MANY ALARMING STORIES REGARDING SAFETY CONCERNS WITH MY VEHICLE COMBINED WITH THE PIRELLI TIRE. MANY SOURCES INDICATE PROBLEMS WITH PIRELLI TIRES, ESPECIALLY ON THE S 60 AWD WITH 17" WHEEL OPTION. I AM ON MY 3RD SET OF PIRELLI TIRES, MY CURRENT SET OF TIRES HAVE BEEN BALANCED BY THREE DIFFERENT PIRELLI DEALERS AND I AM STILL EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH WARPING AND CUPPING, TO THE EXTENT THAT MY FRONT TWO TIRES NEED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. I SEE THAT THERE IS A STRONG POSSIBILITY THAT I COULD EXPERIENCE A TIRE BLOW-OUT BECAUSE OF THE WEAKENED SIDE WALLS THESE TIRES RIDE ON COMBINED WITH THE WEIGHT OF MY S60 AND IT'S AWD SYSTEM. IN MARCH OF 2002, DUE TO LOOSING CONTROL OF MY 2002 S60 AWD, I WAS INVOLVED IN A SERIOUS TRAFFIC ACCIDENT THAT RESULTED IN AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. IT WASN'T UNTIL AFTER MY ACCIDENT THAT I HAD LEARNED THE REASON I LOST CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE. APPARENTLY, LOST CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE BECAUSE OF A FRONT TIRE SIDE-WALL BLOW OUT, THIS OCCURRED BECAUSE OF A RAPID LANE CHANGE I WAS FORCED TO MAKE TO AVOID A OUT-OF-CONTROL DRIVER. BECAUSE OF MY ONGOING TIRE PROBLEMS AND RECENT RESEARCH THAT I HAVE CONDUCTED, I HAVE NOW REALIZED THAT THERE IS INDEED A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WITH MY TIRES. THIS IS SHOCKINGLY REMINISCENT OF THE FORD EXPLORER / FIRESTONE TIRE INCIDENTS. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS SITUATION IMMEDIATELY ON ALL S 60 AWD 7" WHEEL/PIRELLI TIRE FITMENTS. I AM SERIOUSLY CONCERNED WITH THIS SAFETY FLAW THAT VOLVO HAS OBVIOUSLY OVERLOOKED AND FEEL THAT YOUR IMMEDIATE ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER COULD LEAD TO PREVENTABLE INJURY OR EVEN DEATHS. *AK
UPON MERGING ONTO THE HIGHWAY AT 35 MPH, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE BLOW OUT. THIS ALMOST RESULTED IN LOST OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THIS WAS CAUSED BECAUSE THE TIRE LEAKED AIR. THE CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO REPLACE THE BLOWN OUT TIRE WITH THE SPARE, BUT THE SPARE WAS LEAKING AIR ALSO. THE CAUSE OF THE TIRE LEAKING AIR HAD NOT BEEN DETERMINED, HOWEVER ROAD HAZARD HAD BEEN ELIMINATED. *JB
WHILE DRIVING MY VOLVO 2002 S60 AWD I EXPERIENCE WHAT IS REFERRED TO AS AN ENGINE FLARE. WHILE CAR SHIFTS AUTOMATICALLY FROM GEAR TO GEAR THE ENGINE WILL RACE AND THE TACHOMETER NEEDLE WILL JUMP. THE CAR WILL LURCH FORWARD ONCE THE GEAR FINALLY CATCHES. THIS CAN HAPPEN WHEN THE CAR IS COLD OR HOT. IT CAN OCCUR AT ANYTIME AND ANY GEAR. IT HAS ALSO HAPPENED WHILE STEPPING ON THE BRAKE. I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM SINCE FEB. 2002 AND VOLVO STILL HAS YET TO FIX IT. I HAVE MADE NUMEROUS CALLS TO VOLVO N.A. AND THE DEALER VOVLOVILLE OF MASSAPEQUA, NY. THE DEALER TELLS ME THAT THEY ARE STILL WAITING TO HEAR FROM VOLVO N.A. AND VOLVO N.A. CONTINUES TO TELL ME THAT THEY ARE LOOKING INTO IT BUT THEY NEVER CALL ME BACK WITH ANY INFORMATION. *LA
WITH ONLY 6,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE, FRONT LEFT TIRE SEPARATED FROM THE RIM. UPON INSPECTION, THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. (NAR) *LA *CB
I PURCHASED MY NEW 2002 S60 AWD VEHICLE ON NOVEMBER 17, 2002 WITH 76 MILES ON IT AT BOSTON VOLVO VILLAGE IN BOSTON MA. SOON AFTER, I STARTED TO NOTICE VIBRATIONS AND HEAR NOISES, WHICH APPEARED TO BE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE GAS PETAL. I SCHEDULED MY FIRST OIL CHANGE FOR WEDNESDAY JANUARY 29TH WITH 3178 MILES ON IT. WHILE MY OIL CHANGE WAS BEING DONE, I ALSO WANTED THESE PROBLEMS INVESTIGATED AND FIXED. ON WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON, I RECEIVED A MESSAGE THAT MY CAR WAS READY TO BE PICKED UP. WHEN MY HUSBAND AND I DROVE DOWN TO BOSTON TO PICK UP THE CAR, MY HUSBAND WAS INFORMED THAT NO PROBLEMS WERE DISCOVERED CONCERNING THE NOISE I WAS HEARING. HOWEVER, THERE IS STRUCTURAL DAMAGE TO THE SUB-FRAME OF THE VEHICLE AND THAT IT THE DAMAGE OCCURRED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MY POSSESSION. WE KNOW THIS NOT TO BE TRUE SINCE I AM SOLE DRIVER OF THE CAR. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT PROCEEDED TO CHARGE A $90 PARTS AND LABOR FEE BEFORE WE COULD TAKE THE CAR OF THE LOT. WHAT IS THE WARRANTY FOR? THE FOLLOWING MORNING, WHEN I BEGAN TO PUT MY 7 MONTH OLD BABY''S STROLLER IN MY TRUNK, I WAS EVEN MORE FRUSTRATED TO SEE THAT A PIECE OF MY CAR WAS IN MY TRUNK. I LEFT 2 MESSAGES TO GARY IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT EXPLAINING THAT I WAS UPSET THAT THIS PIECE WAS IN MY TRUNK, AND CONCERNED OF THE SAFETY OF DRIVING THE CAR, ESPECIALLY WITH MY BABY. UNFORTUNATELY, MY CALL WAS NOT RETURNED. I THEN CALLED HANK, CUSTOMER SATISFACTION MANAGER ON SATURDAY MORNING. AGAIN, HE WAS UNABLE TO ASSIST ME AND OF COURSE, I DID NOT RECEIVE A PHONE CALL BACK. I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE BASED ON THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE HOWEVER; I DO NOT FEEL SAFE. I BELIEVE THAT THIS DAMAGE WAS CAUSED PREVIOUS TO MY PURCHASE DUE TO THE CAR BEING USED AS A TEST DRIVE VEHICLE, OR POSSIBLY DONE BY A MECHANIC AT THE DEALERSHIP. WE ARE LOOKING FOR THE DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE THE CAR BUT THEY WILL NOT TALK TO US OR RETURN CALLS.
VOLVO S60, 17 INCHE LOW PROFILE PIRELLI RADIAL TIRES
BULB POSITION FAILURE ERROR MESSAGE. I HAVE BROUGHT IN THE VEHICLE FOR SERVICE OF THIS PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD THAT NO BULBS WERE OUT AND THAT THEY CHECKED ALL OF THE CONNECTIONS AND EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE. TWO WEEKS LATER THE SAME ERROR MESSAGE IS DISPLAYING AGAIN. SEEMS MANY OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND VOLVO SEEMS TO BE JUST BRUSHING OFF THE ISSUE INSTEAD OF TRYING TO CORREC IT. EITHER THERE IS AN ELECRICAL PROBLEM OR A WIRING HARNESS PROBLEM.
WE BROUGHT THE CAR IN SEVERAL TIMES TO COMPLAIN THAT NOT ONLY DID THE INSIDE OF THE CAR ALWAYS SMELL LIKE FUEL, BUT THE DRIVER AND ALL HER CLOTHES SMELLED LIKE FUEL. WE WERE TOLD THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR. I FIND IT IRONIC THAT YEARS AFTER THE FACT, VOLVO CONTACTS US TO TELL US THERE IS A FUEL PROBLEM. WE NO LONGER OWN THE CAR, NOR WOULD WE EVER BUY ANOTHER VOLVO AGAIN, DUE TO THE LACK OF CONCERN AND HELP WE RECEIVED WHEN OWNING THIS VEHICLE. VEHICLE HAS THREE TIRES THAT HAS BUBBLES ON THE SIDEWALLS. *MR THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED A BLOWOUT AFTER HITTING A BUMP. IN THE FOLLOWING MONTHS, THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED 3 TIRES WITH BUBBLES ON THE SIDEWALLS. (ONE TIRE HAD A BUBBLE THE SIZE OF THE CONSUMERS FIST) THE SIDEWALL WAS SAID TO BE TOO SOFT AND CAUSED THE RIMS TO BEND. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. *SCC *JB
DT: VEHICLE STALLED/DIED/OST POWER WHILE DRIVING 30-35 MPH DUE TO THROTTLE BODY FAILURE. *AK
I PURCHASED A 2002 S-60 AWD IN THE FALL OF 2002, LESS THAN 90 DAYS LATER I DEVELOPED A VIBRATION. THE DEALER COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. I TOOK IT TO A REPUTABLE TIRE DEALER AND HAD AN ALIGNMENT AS WELL AS THE PIRELLI TIRES BALANCED. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE ALIGNED TWICE SINCE PURCHASE. I HAVE HAD THE TIRES BALANCED APPROX. 10 TIMES. I HAVE HAD TWO BLOW-OUTS, DESTROYING ONE WHEEL. BOTH BLOW-OUTS REQUIRED A NEW TIRE. DURING ALL OF THIS THE VIBRATION COULD NOT BE CORRECTED BY EITHER THE LOCAL TIRE COMPANY NOR THE DEALER. I WAS INSTRUCTED TO PURCHASE NEW TIRES AS ONE OF THE PIRELLIS HAD SIDEWALL SEPARATION AND ONE HAD A BUBBLE, THE OTHER TWO TIRES WERE RELATIVELY NEW AS I HAD TO PURCHASE THEM AFTER THE BLOW-OUTS, MY VEHICLE HAD LESS THAN 20,000 MILES. I REPLACED THE PIRELLI TIRES WITH TOP OF THE LINE NOKIANS, THE VIBRATION WAS STILL THERE. I WAS THEN TOLD MY PROBLEM WAS THE NEW TIRES!! I'M CURRENTLY USING A LOANER S-60 AND DO NOT HAVE FINAL RESULTS YET.*AK
FUMES ENTERED THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT OF THE VEHICLE, THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THE ODOR WAS THOUGHT TO BE A COSMOLENE LIKE SUBSTANCE, THAT WOULD EVENTUALLY SUBSIDE, HOWEVER THE PROBLEM WAS STILL THERE. *AK *JB
2002 VOLVO S60 2.4T MODEL. PICKED UP MY CAR FROM AN AUTHORIZED VOLVO REPAIR CENTER FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND WAS ADVISED THAT I NEEDED A NEW GEAR BOX. THIS GEAR BOX RUNS AT A COST OF $2,000 WITH ABOUT 4 OR 5 HOURS OF LABOR AT $400. THE CAR HAS ONLY 77,000 MILES ON IT AND I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT IT IS PREMATURE FOR THIS PART TO FAIL. I HAVE SEARCHED THE INTERNET REFERENCES ON THE TOPIC AND FIND IT TO BE SOMEWHAT WIDESPREAD. I WOULD APPRECIATE SOME FEEDBACK ON THE ISSUE AS I PLAN TO ADDRESS VOLVO CORPORATE FOR A RESOLUTION. *TR
2002 VOLVO S60 SUDDENLY STOPPED ON A BUSY TWO-LANE HIGHWAY/COMPLETE ELECTRICAL POWER SYSTEM FAILURE/UNABLE TO RE-START CAR/CAR TOWED TO DEALER/DEALER ABLE TO RESTART CAR AFTER CAR SAT UNTOUCHED ON LOT FOR SEVERAL DAYS/TWO DIFFERENT VOLVO DEALERSHIPS LOOKED AT CAR AND WERE UNABLE TO EXPLAIN WHY FAILURE OCCURRED/(CAR ALSO HAD TO HAVE BRAKE SENSOR PAD REPLACED BECAUSE OF INTERMITANT CRUISE CONTROL FAILURE AND SHIFTING COLUMN LOCK UP; STILL EXPERIENCE POOR AM RADIO RECEPTION WHILE RECHARGING CELL PHONE)
1) DRIVER'S SEAT SHIFTS REARWARD ON ACCELERATION AND SHIFTS FORWARD ON BRAKING. DEALER HAS ATTEMPTED TO FIX THIS PROBLEM 3 OR MORE TIMES, BUT IT RE-PPEARS SHORTLY AFTER REPAIR. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE.*AK 2) VEHICLE DIFFICULT TO SHIFT GEARS (MANUAL TRANSMISSION). GEAR CHANGES ARE VERY 'JERKY', THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE SHIFTED SMOOTHLY. VOLVO RECOMMENDS LETTING THE CLUTCH SLIP MORE, BUT THIS ONLY MASKS THE PROBLEM. 3) VOLVO ACKNOWLEDGES AN ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE, BUT REFUSES TO FIX IT. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE.
I HAVE A 2002 VOLVO S60 AWD WITH PIRELLI P6 TIRES. BACK IN JANUARY I HAD A BLOWOUT AFTER HITTING A BUMP IN THE ROAD. NOW THE 3 REMAINING TIRES HAVE DEVELOPED LARGE BUBBLES IN THE SIDEWALLS. ALL 4 OF MY RIMS ARE BENT. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO VOLVO AND PIRELLI TIRE. THEY BLAME THE ROAD CONDITIONS IN THE NORTHEAST. THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. I HAVE FOUND OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT. OVER THE WEEKEND ANOTHER TIRE WENT FLAT AS ONE OF THE BUBBLES RUPTURED. AS THE CAR IS NOT DRIVABLE, IT SITS IN MY DRIVEWAY AS I CAN'T GET ANYWHERE WITH VOLVO. *NLM
I PURCHASED A 2002 VOLVO 2.4T AT THE VOLVO OF CERRITOS IN CALIFORNIA ON MAY 11, 2002. THREE DAYS AFTER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, THE CAR BEGAN MAKING A LOUD RATTLING NOISE IN THE MORNINGS.I RECORDED THE NOISE AND TOOK THE CAR IN TO THE VOLVO OF CERRITOS. I SPOKE TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM MY CAR HAD BEEN EXPERIENCING. AFTER A FEW DAYS THEY CALLED AND TOLD ME THAT THE CAR HAD A DEFECTIVE ALTERNATOR PULLEY. THEY REPLACED THE PART AND RETURNED THE CAR TO ME AFTER SIX DAYS. ON SATURDAY, JUNE 8TH, THE NOISE RETURNED. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS INSTRUCTED TO BRING MY CAR IN TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ON MONDAY, JUNE 10TH. I SPOKE TO THE GENERAL MANAGER JAKI WARREN AND EXPLAINED MY SITUATION TO HER AGAIN AND REQUESTED THAT SHE LOOK IN TO GETTING ME A NEW VEHICLE SINCE IT HAD BEEN AT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TWO TIMES IN LESS THAN 30 DAYS FOR THE SAME DEFECTIVE REASON. SHE SAID SHE WOULD CONTACT SOMEONE AT THE VOLVO CORPORATION AND GET BACK TO ME. THE GENERAL MANAGER HAS NOT RETURNED MY CALL AS SHE AGREED TO DO SO EARLIER THIS WEEK ON MONDAY. I LEFT THE CAR THERE AND DID NOT RECEIVE A CALL FROM THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT REGARDING THE STATUS OF MY CAR UNTIL 3 1/2 DAYS LATER, THURSDAY, 3:00PM.THE SERVICE DIRECTOR STATED HE HAD NOT BEEN ABLE TO HEAR THE NOISE BUT HAD ORDERED SOME PARTS FOR WHAT HE "THOUGHT" THE PROBLEM MIGHT BE. I FOUND THIS HARD TO BELIEVE BEING THAT I HAD HEARD THE NOISE ON SATURDAY, SUNDAY, AND MONDAY. TODAY HE CALLS ME AT 5:00PM AND TELLS ME THAT HE REPLACED THE POWER STEERING PUMP! HE SAID HE HEARD THE NOISE, YET IT WAS NOT AS LOUD AS THE FIRST TIME. THEY "THOUGHT" THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM THIS TIME! THIS IS ABSOLUTELY ABSURD! MY FAMILY'S AND MY SAFETY IS AT RISK. YET THIS MATTER SEEMS TO BE GIVEN NO SENSE OF URGENCY. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM WITH A NEW 2002 VEHICLE UNDER 300 MILES.*AK
TIRE BUBBLE DEVELOPED ON SIDEWALL OF TIRE WITHOUT ANY IMPACT. CAR TAKEN TO DEALER FOR REVIEW AND SERVICE MANAGER SAID THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE AND TIRE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. TIRE DEALER WOULD NOT REPLACE TIRE UNDER WARRANTY. SAID I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT AND THEN FIGHT IT OUT WITH PIRELLI. MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. TIRE ONLY HAS 1350 MILE ON IT.*AK

WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS, THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WOULD SPIN IF THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED TOO FAR IN EITHER DIRECTION. THE DEALER COULD NOT DETERMINE THE PROBLEM, BUT THERE WAS A LACK OF STABILITY IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. *AK THE CONTROL ARM BUSHING WAS REPLACED. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE LOST CONTROL,THE CONSOLE HAD FAILED, THE LOCKS HAD BECOME INOPERATIVE, GRINDING NOISES WOULD OCCUR ON SHARP TURNS, AND THE VEHICLE WOULD LOSE TRACTION. *SCC *JB
