WHILE FUELING THE VEHICLE, GASOLINE BUBBLES UP AND OUT THROUGH THE FILLER NECK, LEAVING A LARGE PUDDLE OF GASOLINE ON THE GROUND. THIS GENERALLY HAPPENS WHEN THE TANK IS LESS THAN HALF FULL. *TR
FRONT TIRES ARE RUBBING THE BODY ON THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE. VEHICLE HAS ORIGINAL WHEELS AND TIRES. CHRONIC PROBLEM WITH VOLVO. *TR
I WAS LEAVING UCLA PARKING GARAGE (I'M AN RN THERE) WHEN I PUT MY VOLVO 2004 S60 INTO GEAR AND IT TOOK OFF BACKWARDS LIKE A ROCKET, CAR WAS THROWN INTO A CONCRETE POST FAR AWAY FROM WHERE I BEGAN. I IMMEDIATELY PUT CAR IN PARK SINCE I THOUGHT I'D GET OUT AND SEE WHAT ON EARTH HAPPENED, BUT IT THEN LUNGED FORWARD BY ITSELF AND TOOK OFF WITHOUT STOPPING!!! THANK GOD IT WAS 6PM AND NOT AN HOUR EARLIER WHEN MANY STAFF WOULD HAVE BEEN IN GARAGE, I'D HAVE RUN THEM OVER! I ALSO TURNED OFF IGNITION WITH KEY, NOTHING HELPED!! IT KEPT GOING ALONG WITH A MIND OF ITS OWN AT APPROX 15 MPH MAKING A GROWLING WHIRRING SOUND. I WAS ABLE TO STEER CAR AND AVOID OTHER VEHICLES BUT EVENTUALLY HAD TO MAKE SERIOUS DECISION TO PURPOSELY CRASH INTO ANOTHER CONCRETE MASSIVE POST WHICH I DID AND THE "POSSESSED BEAST". FINALLY CAME TO A HALT WITH FLUID POURING OUT ALL OVER,. MY BRAKES DID NOT WORK DURING THIS EVENT, NOT AT ALL, THAT'S WHY I COULDN'T STOP THE CAR (ALONG WITH FOOT ON BRAKE, TRIED PUTTING CAR IN PARK GEAR AND TURNED OFF IGNITION KEY LAST AUGUST WHEN I HAD ONLY 22, 000 MILES ON CAR IT TOOK IT TO VOLVO DEALER TWICE, SINCE CAR WAS OFTEN STALLING AND STOPPING ON THE STREET WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I WAS TOLD THEY COULDN'T FIND IT STALLING WHEN THEY TEST DROVE IT BUT THEY MENTIONED THEY CLEANED THE THROTTLE AND SAID THAT COULD HELP (WHICH IT DID UNTIL 2, 500 MILES LATER WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I HAVE DEALER PAPERWORK INDICATING CAR STALLING AND THAT THEY CLEANED THROTTLE BOX ALSO, THEY SAID I SHOULD BE TAKING CAR ON THE FREEWAY MORE AT HIGH ENOUGH SPEED TO "BLOW OFF THE CARBON" I SPENT FRIDAY NIGHT IN ER WITH NECK/SHOULDER INJURIES, BUT THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A DISASTER. FORGOT TO MENTION THAT WHEN I TOOK CAR IN FOR SERVICE JULY 2007 DEALER REPLACED FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR AS PER RECALL. DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS SIGNIFICANT. ALSO WROTE ON FORM "DURING INSPECTION FOUND UPPER ENGINE MOUNT COLLAPSED, CAUSE........ ENGINE REPAIR". UPDATED 03-25-08 *BF THE DEALER STATED REAR BRAKE PADS HAD TO BE REPLACED. UPDATED 03/25/08 *TR
I HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM OF THE CAR STALLING AROUND TURNS AND ON ABRUPT STOPS. IT SEEMED TO FIRST BE RESOLVED BY THE RECALL OF THE PRESSURE SENSOR. RECENTLY THOUGH THE CAR HAS BEEN STALLING SOMETIMES 5 TIMES PER DAY WHEN DOING THE SAME. THE DEALER CLAIMS IT IS A PVC PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE CLEANED AND WANTS TO CHARGE $1000 DOLLARS TO DO IT. *TR
I OWN A 2004 VOLVO S60. I RECENTLY FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON MY VEHICLE AFTER MY MECHANIC TOLD ME MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS DUE TO THIS RECALL. VOLVO SAYS THERE IS NO SUCH RECALL AT FIRST, BUT UPON CALLING THE CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER I FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS. HOWEVER, THEY SAY IT IS VIN SPECIFIC AND THAT MINE IS NOT COVERED. MY MECHANIC SAYS THAT THIS NEEDS TO BE TAKEN CARE OF, FOR THIS PROBLEM CAN CAUSE MY ENGINE TO STALL OUT AT ANYTIME AND CAUSE MY STEERING WHEEL TO JERK AROUND ON THE HIGHWAY. TO ME, THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM, SOUNDS LIKE THAT IT COULD POTENTIALLY KILL ME ON THE ROAD. HOW CAN SOMETHING THAT CAN BE THIS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS NOT BE VOLVOS RESPONSIBILITY TO FIX? I OWN A 2004 VOLVO S60 2.5T AND RECENTLY HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE STALLING IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY ROAD. THIS CONCERNS ME BECAUSE OF THE HIGH RISK OF BEING INVOLVED IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT. I'M WORRIED THIS MAY HAPPEN AGAIN. I'VE CONTACTED MY DEALER (PHILLIPS VOLVO 4980 VIRGINIA BEACH BOULEVARD, VIRGINIA BEACH, VA 23462) AND THEY INFORMED ME I DO NOT HAVE A RECALL ON MY VEHICLE. I AM STILL TAKING MY CAR TO THE MECHANIC TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM MAY BE. I'VE HAD A "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT ON AND OFF FOR MANY MONTHS NOW, THE DEALERSHIP HAS CHECKED THIS OUT AND SAID I HAVE NO ERRORS AND MY CAR IS FINE. I AM VERY UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THIS DIAGNOSIS. *TR
I-55 SOUTH SHORTLY BEFORE WEBER ROAD EXIT I WAS ON THE LEFT LANE TRAVELING 30 MPH, DECIDED TO CHANGE TO MIDDLE LANE, SIGNALED AND WHILE IN PROCESS OF LANE CHANGE, CAR STARTED TO GO OUT OF CONTROL. THEN STEERED TO THE LEFT, AND WAS HEADING TOWARDS CEMENT DIVIDER. TO AVOID THAT I STEERED RIGHT, AT THIS POINT CAR STARTED TO DO 360. COULD NOT CONTROL AND WAS MOVING TO FACE ONCOMING SEMI TRUCK FROM MIDDLE LANE. THE SEMI TRUCK SLAMMED INTO THE RIGHT SIDE (HEADLIGHT/TIRE) AREA OF MY CAR VOLVO S60 MODEL YEAR 2004 AND STOPPED THE CAR. BOTH AIRBAGS DEPLOYED - DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIRBAG. ONLY PERSON IN CAR WAS ME. PRIOR TO THE CRASH I EXPERIENCED AND FELT THAT THE FRONT CONTROL ARMS MAY NOT HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED CORRECTLY AND AS A RESULT THE STUD AND NUT THAT SECURED SPINDLE MAY LOSE THEIR INITIAL AXIAL TENSION. UNDER CERTAIN AND PARTICULAR DRIVING CONDITIONS SUCH AS WEATHER CONDITIONS REMAINING SEVERE WITH HEAVY SNOW STORM, STEERING MIGHT BECOME LESS RESPONSIBLE AND THE DRIVER MAY EXPERIENCE DIFFICULTY IN CONTROLLING THE STEERING. THIS DRIVING CONDITION COULD HAVE BEEN THE APPROXIMATE CAUSE THAT LEAD TO SEPARATION BETWEEN CONTROL ARM AND THE SPINDLE WHICH HAD ULTIMATELY RESULTED IN A "TOTAL CRASH". I ALSO TRIED TO APPLY BRAKE. LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID, AS A RESULT OF FAILURE OF SEALED CARDONE MASTER CYLINDER WITH FLUID LEAKING FROM BRAKE HAD RESULTED IN CRASH. I ALSO OBSERVED CRUISE CONTROL SENSOR FAILURE, AFTER I TURNED IT "ON", THEN IT SHUTS OFF BY ITSELF, AGAIN I HAVE TO TURN ON. WHILE DRIVING AT RATE 60 TO 65 MILES I OBSERVED A KIND OF NOISE AND VIBRATIONS UNDER HOOD. POSSIBLY THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR LOCATED OF THE FUEL RAIL MAY TRANSMIT INCORRECT SIGNAL TO THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE. I OF THE OPINION THAT THIS MIGHT BE ONE OF THE CONTRIBUTING FACTOR RESPONSIBLE FOR STALLING OF ENGINE WITHOUT ANY WARNING AND HAS CAUSED A TOTAL CRASH ON THE FREEWAY. FAILURE OF THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR MIGHT HAVE CRACKED DUE TO TEMPERATURE CHANGES AND EXCESSIVE VIBRATIONS AND THAT CAUSED CRASH. *TR
1/22/08 INSERTED KEY AND IT WOULD ONLY MOVE INTO THE FIRST POSITION ACTIVATING THE RADIO, LIGHTS, ETC. UNABLE TO CONTINUE TO TURN KEY AND TURN ON AUTOMOBILE. STEERING COLUMN LOCK ASSEMBLY FAILED, ALTHOUGH IT IS EXPECTED TO LAST THE LIFE OF THE CAR, LEAVING ME STRANDED AND WITHOUT A CAR FOR OVER A WEEK SINCE PART COMES FROM GERMANY. 4/17/12 SAME SYMPTOMS AND ONCE AGAIN I AM STRANDED UNEXPECTEDLY. VOLVO DEALER REPORTS THIS HAPPENS OFTEN AND NEW DOUBLE PRICED PART MIGHT LAST LONGER. THIS IS A DANGER DUE TO ITS SUDDEN COMPLETELY UNPREDICTABLE ONSET, INABILITY TO BE DRIVEN, AND LENGTH OF TIME THAT THE CAR IS UNABLE TO BE IN USE. *TR
STRONG FUEL SMELL COMING FROM INSIDE VEHICLE. FUEL PUMP LEAKING. THE DEFECT WAS NOTED ON 2001-2002 MODEL YEARS BUT NEEDS TO BE EXTENDED TO 2004 FOR VEHICLES IN NEVADA. *TR
WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, THE TRANSMISSION SEEMS TO SKIP A GEAR. THIS RESULTS IN UNEVEN ACCELERATION, MAKING MERGING INTO TRAFFIC HAZARDOUS. IT ONLY HAPPENS SPORADICALLY. *TR
STRONG FUEL ODOR EMITTING FROM PASSENGER SIDE OF VEHICLE. OBSERVED GAS STAINS COVERING OUTSIDE OF GAS TANK. RETURNED TO DEALER AND DEALER REPLACED FUEL PUMP. SINCE THEN, NO ODORS. HOWEVER, AUTO CONTINUES TO HESITATE WHEN DRIVING. IN ONE INSTANCE, CAR STALLED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND WAS NEARLY REAR ENDED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 VOLVO S60. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD SPORADICALLY STALL WITHOUT WARNING. SPEED WAS NOT A FACTOR DURING THE FAILURES. A MECHANIC INSPECTED THE VEHICLE, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V226000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). AS OF OCTOBER 28, 2008, THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 58,888. UPDATED 12-02-08 *BF UPDATED 12/02/08. *JB
CARS SHUT OFF ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS WITH OUT A MOMENTS NOTICE WITHIN A TWO WEEK PERIOD, ONCE AT A STOP SIGN ANOTHER TIME IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY. I HAVE ONLY OWNED THIS CAR FOR LESS THAN TWO MONTHS. THERE ARE NO SIGNALS OR CODES LISTED ON THE CAR AS TO WHY IT SHUT OFF. CAR DOESN'T HAVE PROBLEM RESTARTING AT ALL. VOLVO DEALER HAS LISTED THIS CAR AS UP TO DATE WITH ALL RECALLS. ISSUE IS YET TO BE RESOLVED, DUE TO MECHANIC'S NOT EXPERIENCING THE SHUT OFF POINT THEY ARE FAILING TO DIAGNOSE THE SITUATION PERIOD. MY SAFETY IS 1ST, HOWEVER MY CAR MAY SHUT OFF AT ANY POINT, SO I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS CAR AT ALL. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 VOLVO S60. IN THE PAST ONE YEAR IT KEEPS STALLING BOTH IN MOTION AND WHEN GOING INTO DRIVE FROM PARK. THIS CREATES A DANGEROUS SITUATION WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, ESPECIALLY WHEN IN MOTION AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO VOLVO AUTHORIZED SERVICE TWICE WITH NO RESOLUTION. THE LAST STALL WAS ON AUGUST 30, 2007 RESULTING IN THE CAR BEING TOWED TO VOLVO SERVICE. A RECALL WAS ISSUED ON 2004 S40 DUE TO A SIMILAR COMPLAINT, BUT I WAS TOLD THAT THE RECALL DID NOT APPLY SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS AN ALL WHEEL DRIVE. *TR
LATE LAST SUMMER, UPON STARTING UP MY CAR, I NOTICED A HISSING NOISE COMING FROM THE CENTER PANEL ON THE DASHBOARD. DIDN'T REALLY THINK ANYTHING OF IT UNTIL I TRIED TO TURN ON THE AIR CONDITIONER AND THE CAR MADE THE SAME HISSING NOISE. NOISE LASTS ONLY 5-10 SECONDS UPON STARTUP OF THE CAR OR THE AC, BUT NOW THE AC ONLY BLOWS HOT AIR. TOOK CAR TO VOLVO DEALERSHIP HERE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR AND THEY SAID THAT THEY WERE GOING TO HAVE TO RIP OPEN THE ENTIRE FRONT PANEL TO INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM. AS I HAVE BEEN TOLD TWICE PREVIOUSLY BY THIS DEALERSHIP THAT I NEED SERVICE THAT I DID NOT REALLY NEED (THIS WAS NOW THE THIRD TIME), I CHOSE TO HOLD OFF ON LETTING THEM PERFORM SUCH A TASK. INSTEAD, I TOOK THE CAR TO ANOTHER MECHANIC AND DESCRIBED THE PROBLEM TO HIM. HE LET ME KNOW THAT WHEN THERE WAS NO FREON LEFT IN THE AC UNIT. THEY REPLACED IT AND WITHIN ONE DAY, IT HAD COMPLETELY LEAKED. THEY THEN PERFORMED AN INSPECTION ON THE AC AND EITHER THE COMPRESSOR OR THE HOSES HAS A MAJOR LEAK IN IT. I HAVE NO ACCIDENTS AND THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 60,000 MILES ON IT CURRENTLY. THE PROBLEM WAS FIRST DETECTED AT LESS THAN 45,000 MILES ON IT. ESTIMATE ON REPAIR WAS $1500+. AT 22,500 MILE CHECKUP, VOLVO REPLACED RADIATOR ON CAR. MECHANIC SAID THAT IT WAS POSSIBLE THAT VOLVO DEALERSHIP MAY HAVE DAMAGED THE AC UNIT AT THAT TIME SINCE THEY ARE IN CLOSE PROXIMITY. IN ADDITION, AS I NOTICED ON ANOTHER PERSON'S COMPLAINT FORM, I ALSO HAVE THE RUBBING OF THE FRONT TIRES WHEN TURNING. QUITE ANNOYING AND I DO MY BEST TO AVOID THE FRICTION AT ALL COSTS. DOESN'T OCCUR ON NORMAL TURNS, JUST WHEN MANEUVERING FOR PARKING SPACES OR GETTING OUT OF MY PARKING GARAGE. *TR
I OWN A VOLVO S60 AND HAVE UNDER 30,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. YESTERDAY I SUFFEREDTHE SECOND BLOW OUT ON THE CONTINENTAL CONTITOURING CONTACT TIRES, 215/55R16 93H CH95. I AM CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF OTHERS AS THESE TIRES APPEAR TO BE DEFECTIVE WITH TWO BLOW OUTS IN UNDER 30,000 MILES. THE TIRES ARE RATED TO 60,000 MILES. *AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 VOLVO S60. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DECELERATE AND THEN STALLED. THE ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL. FIVE MINUTES AFTER THE FAILURE OCCURRED, THE VEHICLE RESTARTED ITSELF. TWO DAYS LATER, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V226000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING); THEREFORE, THEY WOULD NOT ASSUME ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 64,450.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 VOLVO S60. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED A TURN WHEN THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY DECELERATED AND STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER BUT THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE DEALER SUGGESTED THAT THE FUEL INJECTORS AND THROTTLE BODY BE CLEANED, WHICH WAS COMPLETED. THE FAILURE RECURRED WITHIN A FEW MONTHS WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED INDICATING THAT THE AIR PRESSURE WAS INACCURATE OR THERE WAS A FUEL LEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE PROGRESSED. THE CONTACT INQUIRED WITH THE MANUFACTURER IN REGARDS TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V226000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) BUT WAS ADVISED THAT HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,245 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 116,000.
2004 VOLVO S60 2.5 TURBO: NO WARNING TO THE EVENTS. ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS, THE CAR FEELS AS IF IT HAS HIT A LARGE OBJECT, TEMPORARILY LURCHES AND APPEARS TO MOMENTARILY STALL CREATING A TEMPORARY LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. THIS IS FOLLOWED BY AN IMMEDIATE LOSS OF ALL INSTRUMENT GAUGES, AIR CONDITIONER, WINDOW CONTROLS AND DOOR LOCKS. THE FAN DID CONTINUE TO WORK. THE ABS WARNING LIGHT ALSO INDICATED AS WELL AS A WARNING THAT NO BRAKES FUNCTION EXISTED. THE SRS SERVICE AIR BAG URGENT INDICATION IS ILLUMINATED. ON TURNING THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTING, THE FUNCTIONS OF THE CAR RETURN WITH EXCEPTION THAT THE SRS SERVICE AIR BAG URGENT INDICATION REMAINS. THIS PROBLEM CAN TAKE MONTHS TO REPEAT OR ONLY A MATTER OF MINUTES. IT SEEMS TO BE MORE PREVALENT IN HOT WEATHER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SERVICE SHOP AT THE VOLVO DEALER AND THEY COULD ONLY CLEAR ALARMS AS THEY SAID THE EVENT CREATED TOO MANY ALARMS/FAULT CODES TO TROUBLESHOOT. THEY DOWNLOADED NEW SOFTWARE REVISIONS TO EACH CONTROL MODULE IN THE CAR. AFTER A PERIOD OF APPROXIMATELY A MONTH, THE EVENTS BEGAN OCCURRING AGAIN. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO NON OEM MECHANICS AS WELL AND THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO TROUBLESHOOT THE FAULT. THE VEHICLE IS SCHEDULED TO BE TAKEN TO THE DEALERS SERVICE SHOP AGAIN. SEARCHING THE INTERNET CHAT ROOMS AND BLOGS, AS WELL AS THIS SITE, THERE APPEARS TO BE NUMEROUS OTHER VEHICLES WITH THIS SAME SAFETY FAULT THAT STALLS VEHICLES IN TRAFFIC AND CREATES VERY SUDDEN AND SEVERE LURCHES IN POWER ULTIMATELY LEADING TO A MOMENTARY STALL OUT WITH LOSS OF ALL INSTRUMENT INDICATIONS TO INCLUDE SPEED, RPM, TURN INDICATOR, ETC. *TR
ON MARCH 12 MY VOLVO S-60R WAS T-BONED"BY A LARGE SUV ORD EXPLORER THAT IMPACTED A POINT NEAR MY FRONT DRIVER'S-SIDE WHEEL. THE SUV IMPACT CAUSED MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END BY TOTALLY REMOVING THE VOLVO'S BUMPER AND MANGLING THE FRONT DRIVER QUARTER PANEL DOWN TO THE CHASSIS. ALTHOUGH MY CAR WAS SENT SPINNING BY THE FORCE OF THE COLLISION. NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AT THIS INITIAL IMPACT. AS MY VOLVO PROCEEDED TO SPIN CLOCKWISE ACROSS THE PAVEMENT IT IMPACTED THE OVER PASS GUARD-RAIL SUCH THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE SLAMMED INTO THE GUARD-RAIL, PINNING ME IN THE VEHICLE. ONLY THE PASSENGER FRONT AIRBAG DEPLOYED ON HITTING THE GUARD RAIL AND RELEASING MUCH SMOKE INTO THE CABIN. I HAVE A VOLVO S60 2004. AROUND JANUARY 2007, IT STARTED STALLING WITHOUT WARNING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH. IT DID THIS ABOUT 3 TIMES IN 2 WEEKS, SO I TOOK IT TO THE VOLVO DEALER. THEY COULDN'T REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM, BUT SUPPOSEDLY UPGRADED THE SOFTWARE AND CLEANED THE THROTTLE INTAKE, AND RETURNED THE CAR TO ME. THE CAR WAS FINE UNTIL MARCH 6, WHEN THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY BACK AT THE SHOP WHERE THEY HAVE TOLD ME THEY HAVE FOUND NOTHING WRONG AND ARE GOING TO RETURN THE CAR TO ME. TL*- WHILE PARKING THE 2004 VOLVO S60 IN THE DRIVEWAY THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LURCHED FORWARD, CAUSING THE FRONT WHEELS TO GO OVER A CEMENT BLOCK, HITTING THE HOUSE LIGHTLY. 2004 VOLVO S60 R WITH 18" TIRES. INSIDE DRIVER TIRE CONTACTS INSIDE DRIVER TIRE WALL. WEAR WILL CAUSE PREMATURE TIRE FAILURE. DEALER HAS ALWAYS MAINTAINED THAT THIS "RUBBING" IS NOT A PROBLEM. IN REGARD TO A 2004 S60 VOLVO 2.5 AWD-T WE NOTICED A SEAT BELT PROBLEM WITH THE BACK SEAT CENTER SEAT BELT. WE SECURED OUR INFANT CAR SEAT BASE WITH THE CENTER SEAT BELT, AND HAVE BEEN DOING SO SINCE SHE WAS BORN. THE LOCAL POLICE STATION HAD A SERVICE THAT DEMONSTRATED PROPER INSTALLATION AND INSURED WE WERE ABLE TO DO IT OURSELVES. THE OFFICER THEN INSTALLED IT FOR US WITH NO PROBLEM. TODAY WE NOTICED THE BASE WAS REALLY LOOSE! I TRIED TO REINSTALL THE SEAT BY ATTACHING IT TO THE SEAT BELT IN THE USUAL FASHION. HOWEVER, I DISCOVERED THAT THE SEAT BELT DID NOT HOLD THE BASE TIGHTLY AS IT DID BEFORE!!! IN SUMMARY- NORMAL USE LED UP TO THE FAILURE OF THE THREE POINT SAFETY BELT IN THE REAR CENTER SEAT POSITION TO PROPERLY HOLD THE BASE OF AN INFANT CAR SEAT SAFELY. ON 1/6/07 I WAS TRAVELING VIA INTERSTATE WHEN THE 2004 VOLVO S60T EXPERIENCED WHAT WAS DISPLAYED ON THE SCREEN AS REDUCED ENGINE PERFORMANCE, AND QUICKLY SLOWED TO ABOUT 40 MPH. I WAS VERY NEARLY REAR-ENDED AS I WAS IN THE FAST LANE IN THE PROCESS OF PASSING A SLOWER VEHICLE. I PROCEEDED TO THE NEAREST EXIT AND COASTED INTO A GAS STATION. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND TRIED TO RESTARTED IT. HOWEVER, IT MADE A LOUD NOISE, SHOOK, AND THEN FAILED TO CRANK. IT WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST VOLVO DEALERSHIP, WHERE THEY INFORMED ME IT WAS A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY (ETM). THE CAR ONLY HAD 58,000 MILES , 8,000 OUT OF WARRANTY. THE REPAIRS INCLUDED REMOVING AND CLEANING THE ETM, REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY, AND ETM SOFTWARE RELOADED FOR A TOTAL OF $14,000. 3 MONTHS LATER, WHILE I WAS IN THE HOSPITAL GIVING BIRTH, MY HUSBAND EXPERIENCED THE SAME MALFUNCTION ON THE WAY TO THE HOSPITAL, LOST POWER, AND HAD TO GET ALTERNATE TRANSPORTATION. THE DEALER TOLD THE CONSUMER THE STEERING KIT WAS THE ONLY SOLUTION THAT VOLVO OFFERED. THE CONSUMER STATED THE COOLANT LIGHT WAS ON. THE DEALER STATED THE RADIATOR WAS LEAKING. *JB

I WAS DRIVING MY 2004 VOLVO S60 ON THE NJ TURNPIKE. WINDS REPORTED THAT DAY TO BE UP TO 50 MPH AND I AM DRIVING AT AROUND 50 TO 60 MPH WHEN I HEARD A LOUD SOUND FROM THE REAR OF MY CAR. I STARTED TO SLOW DOWN TO ENTER ONTO THE BREAKDOWN LANE ON THE TURNPIKE DRAGGING THE BUMPER AS I PULLED OVER. WHEN I GOT OUT TO INSPECT I FOUND THAT MY BUMPER COVER HAVE BLEW OFF OF THE CAR AND WAS HANGING ON DUE TO A WIRE THAT WAS CONNECTED TO IT ON THE RIGHT SIDE. I CALLED MY VOLVO DEALER AND WAS OFFERED AN APPT TO BRING IT IN. THE SERVICE MANAGER ALONG WITH HIS REGIONAL REP IS DISPUTING THAT THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED. THEY ARE SAYING THAT THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS BEFORE AND THAT IT COULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED BECAUSE IT HAS NEVER HAPPENED AND WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REPLACEMENT UNLESS IT IS PAID FOR BY ME. NEITHER THE DEALER OR THE REP IS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS INCIDENT AND WHY THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED. IT IS BY THE GRACE OF GOD THAT THIS BUMPER COVER DID NOT COMPLETELY DISLODGE CAUSING FATALITIES TO OCCUR HAD THE WIND BLEW IT IN THE PATH OF OTHER CARS ON THE ROADS. I WAS UNABLE TO GET THE CAR OUT OF THE TRAFFIC (NO POWER TO DRIVE TO THE SHOULDER). MY CAR WAS COMPLETELY USELESS. ON 10/25/2004 MY WIFE HAD A BLOW OUT ON I84 ON THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE TIRE WHILE DRIVING ON A NEWLY PAVED HIGHWAY ROAD. NEARLY INJURING HERSELF AND CARS AROUND HER ON THE 3 LANE HIGHWAY SHE BARELY MADE IT OVER TO THE BREAKDOWN LANE. THE ENTIRE WALL OF THE TIRE WAS SEPERATE FROM THE REST OF THE TIRE ALL THE WAY AROUND. ONCE THE DOUGHNUT TIRE WAS PUT ON I IMMEDIATELY DROVE TO THE NEAREST VOLVO DEALER WHERE THE CAR WAS BOUGHT, AND THEY WOULD REPLACE THE TIRE BUT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR BOTH TIRES AT A COST OVER 300 IN TOTAL. THEY SAY THAT THE SEAT MUST BE MOVED TO THE DESIRED POSITION WITH THE IGNITION TURNED ON. IF IT IS MOVED WITH THE IGNITION OFF, IT WILL RETURN TO THE LAST POSITION IT WAS MOVED TO WITH THE IGNITION TURNED ON EVERY TIME THE CAR IS UNLOCKED. THERE IS ALMOST A FOOT DIFFERENCE IN HEIGHT BETWEEN MY WIFE AND ME. SHE HAS OPENED THE LEFT REAR DOOR, PLACED ITEMS ON THE FLOOR BEHIND THE DRIVER'S SEAT THEN OPENED THE DRIVER'S DOOR, WHICH CAUSED THE DRIVER'S SEAT TO MOVE BACKWARDS TO MY POSITION CRUSHING THE ITEMS ON THE FLOOR. I HAVE REPEATEDLY OPENED THE DRIVER'S DOOR AT NIGHT, HAD THE SEAT MOVE TO HER POSITION WITHOUT REALIZING IT, STEPPED IN AND HIT MY HEAD ON THE DOOR OPENING. I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT MY CAR FOR NEARLY 10 DAYS IN TOTAL; I HAVE LESS THE 2500 MILES, AND HAVE BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE SHOP THREE TIMES FOR THE SAME ISSUE AND EVEN AFTER ALL OF THIS VOLVO DOES NOT FEEL THAT THIS ISSUES WARRANTS A CHANGE IN SOMEONES SCHEDULE OR THE NEED TO MAKE SOME ARRANGEMENTS TO GET MY CAR REPAIRED IN A TIMELY MANNER. WORST YET , YOU WOULD THINK AFTER CALLING VOLVO CUSTOMER SERVICE AND OPENING UP A SO CALLED FOLDER THAT I WOULD RECEIVE A CALL EXPLAINING THE SITUATION OR WHAT WAS BEING DONE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. OR AT LEAST OFFERING MY SOME COMPENSATION FOR MY TROUBLES, LIKE A LONG TERM LOANER CAR TO REPLACE THE CAR I DO NOT HAVE DUE TO THIS ISSUE, OR MAYBE EVEN AN OFFER OF EXTENDING THE WARRANTY TO ADDRESS MY CONCERNS OVER THE RELIABILITY OF THE 4 C SUSPENSION.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 VOLVO S60. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER STEERING AND THE BRAKES FAILED. THE CONTACT SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND THEN TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 32,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,800.
VEHICLE WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HAS A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW THAT RESULTS IN A SERIOUS DELAY WHEN DECELERATING RAPIDLY. THE DELAY MAKES IT SEEM AS THOUGH THE THROTTLE HAS "STUCK" FOR 2-3 TENTHS OF A SECOND. THE "R" IS TOUTED AS A PERFORMANCE VEHICLE AND THIS DELAY IN THROTTLE RESPONSE IS DOWN RIGHT DANGEROUS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN HARD. THIS DELAY OCCURS EVERY TIME ONE DECELERATES QUICKLY FROM FULL THROTTLE. VOLVO SAYS IT IS "NORMAL". *JB. *AK
2004 VOLVO S60 REGULARLY SERVICED BY VOLVO. BOUGHT NEW, WELL MAINTAINED, EXC COND, & OIL CHANGED EVER 3000 MILES. ONLY 68K MILES PRESENTLY BUT MANY PROBLEMS SINCE BOUGHT NEW. #1) REPLACING BURNED OUT REAR/FRONT HEADLIGHT BULBS CONSTANTLY. #2) CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON BEFORE 40K MILES. WASN'T TOO CONCERNED AT FIRST BECAUSE ONLY ISSUE I SEEMED TO HAVE WAS HESITATION SOMEWHAT WHEN ACCELERATING AFTER BEING PARKED. UNTIL ONE DAY VEH WOULDN'T ACCELERATE BEYOND A ROLL AFTER BEING STOPPED FOR RED LIGHT. A FEW DAYS LATER DRIVING APPROX 50 MPH UPHILL CAR STOPPED ACCELERATING AND STALLED. BOTH TIMES I WAS ABLE TO ROLL TO SIDE OF ROAD, RESTART & MAKE IT HOME. SCARED ME ENOUGH THOUGH TO TAKE TO VOLVO NEXT DAY. FUEL SENSOR GAUGE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WHEN I CHECKED IF COVERED UNDER RECALL - FOUND MY CAR WASN'T BASED ON VIN, ANOTHER FAIRLY COSTLY REPAIR. #3 - AC FAN WOULDN'T GO OFF ONE DAY - FAN RUNNING FULL BLAST & CONTROL SWITCH WOULDN'T REGULATE OR WORK. FAN CONTINUED TO RUN EVEN WHEN I TURNED OFF IGNITION. DEAD BATTERY NEXT MORNING NEEDED JUMP START. AC FAN MODULAR BAD - MODULAR REPAIR DONE & THEN FAN SOMEHOW BURNED OUT DUE TO NEW MODULAR WHEN MECHANIC TESTING REPAIR - NOW FAN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. VERY COSTLY REPAIR ONCE AGAIN. #3 - CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER MONTHS TO SEVERAL MECHANICS, CHECKING OIL, ETC. TOLD LIGHT PROBABLY JUST FAULTY. THEN CHECK OIL LIGHT BLINKS - CAR HAD LESS THAN 1/2 QT OIL & I HAD MAJOR ENGINE DAMAGE. HAD COMPLETE ENGINE REBUILT & VERY EXPENSIVE. ENGINE RUNNING GREAT. NOW 2 MOS LATER & I HEAR A METAL TO METAL NOISE/SOUND WHEN MAKING TURNS - PREFERABLY RIGHT HAND - & COMING FROM RGHT FRONT SIDE OF CAR. MECHANIC CAN'T SEE SAFETY ISSUES WHEN UP ON RACK. HAS NO CLUE. NOISE ANNOYING AND CONCERNING. IT SOUNDS LIKE WHEEL IS GOING TO FALL OFF CAR. I AM SURE IT WILL COST ANOTHER FORTUNE . HOWEVER ONCE REPAIRED - TRADING IN. I LOVED MY CAR...HOWEVER NO LONGER FEEL VEH IS SAFE OR DEPEN. *TR
