I HAVE A 2004 VOLVO S-60 WITH APPROXIMATELY 75,000 MILES ON IT. IN THE PAST 6 WEEKS, THE CAR ENGINE HAS COMPLETELY DIED THREE SEPARATE TIMES - WITHOUT WARNING. *TR THE EMERGENCY HAZARD LIGHT STILL WORKED, THE FAN STILL BLOWS (NO A/C, JUST THE FAN), BUT OTHERWISE THERE IS NO POWER, NO BRAKES, NO STEERING, NO WARNING LIGHTS WHATSOEVER. EACH TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED, IT HAS BEEN WHEN I AM DRIVING BETWEEN 40-55MPH. WHEN THE CAR COASTS TO A STOP AND I AM ABLE TO RE-START IT, IT STARTS WITHOUT A PROBLEM. MY VOLVO DEALERSHIP SAYS THEY SEE NO EVIDENCE OF PROBLEM ON THE CAR'S COMPUTER SYSTEM, AND THE CAR DID NOT DIE WHEN THEY TEST DROVE IT, THEREFORE THEY SAY THEY CANNOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM - AND THAT WITHOUT A DIAGNOSIS, THEY CANNOT REPAIR IT. THEY ALSO CLAIM THAT VOLVO'S DATABASE HAS NO RELATED VEHICLE OR PARTS RECALL ON MY PARTICULAR VIN/VEHICLE. HOWEVER, WITH ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING OF WHEN THE ENGINE FAILURE WILL OCCUR, AND WITH NO CONTROL OVER STEERING OR BRAKING, THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT VOLVO SO FAR CANNOT ADDRESS UNLESS THE ENGINE FAILURE HAPPENS RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM. WITH NO WAY OF CONTROLLING WHEN THE CAR WILL DIE, THIS IS OBVIOUSLY NOT A SATISFACTORY RESOLUTION FOR THE SAFETY OF MYSELF OR FOR OTHER DRIVERS.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 VOLVO S60. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER AND SHUT OFF. UPON RESTART IT OPERATED AS NORMAL BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CONTINUED TO ILLUMINATE ON THE DASHBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE HE WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A FAILURE WITHIN THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR. OVER THE PAST 2 YEARS THE VEHICLE WAS EXPERIENCING AN INTERMITTENT FAILURE IN WHICH IT WOULD MOMENTARILY FAIL TO RESPOND TO PRESSURE BEING APPLIED TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND HE WAS INFORMED THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V226000, ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 77,000.
1. REFERENCE - ODI ID NUMBER : 10348993 THE CAR STALLED AGAIN ON THE HIGHWAY AND I WAS ABLE TO MANAGE TO PULL OVER SAFELY. 2. THIS TIME IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR. THE DEALER AND VOLVO CUSTOMER CARE REP STATED THAT THE RECALL IS NOT APPLICABLE TO THE CAR BECAUSE THE LAST 6-DIGIT VIN [XXX] IS OUT OF RANGE OF 335112 TO 372809. THE VOLVO CUSTOMER CARE REP ALSO STATED THERE IS NO GUARANTEE IF THE PROBLEM WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN WITHIN THE 12 MONTH PART WARRANTY AFTER IT'S FIXED. I FEEL VERY UNSAFE DRIVING THE CAR NOW, NOT KNOWING WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURS AGAIN AND COULD CAUSE A FATAL CRASH. 3. DEALER REPLACES FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR. *TR
WHEN PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE AT MY DAUGHTER'S SCHOOL, VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED OVER THE SIDEWALK AND STRUCK THE BUILDING. TRANSMISSION POPPED IN REVERSE AND VEHICLE ACCELERATED BACKWARDS. EVEN WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. I FORCED THE TRANSMISSION INTO PARK AND TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE TO GET IT TO STOP AFTER GOING IN REVERSE FOR APPROXIMATELY 50 FEET. THERE WAS SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THE CAR AND BUILDING (PICTURES AVAILABLE). NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. *TR
1. VEHICLE STALLED 2 TIMES, LAST YEAR AND ON 08/09/2010 WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART BOTH TIME. THE SECOND TIME I WAS ABLE TO RESTART AFTER 5 MINUTES AND DRIVE TO THE NEARBY THE VOLVO STORE DEALERSHIP. 2. THE DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AND DETERMINED THE BATTERY WAS THE ISSUE. HOWEVER I SEE 2 RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBERS: 09V483000 AND 07V226000 WHICH MAY BE THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. I TALKED TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE VOLVO STORE DEALERSHIP (1051 W. WEBSTER AVE, WINTER PARK, FL 32789 - 407-628-0550) BUT THE DEALERSHIP WON'T LOOK AT IT BECAUSE THEY SAID MY CAR IS NOT SHOWN UP FOR RECALL IN THEIR VOLVO DATABASE. 3. REPLACE THE BATTERY. *TR
MY CAR STALLED TWICE AT LOW SPEED, BOTH TIMES WAS ABLE TO RE-START IMMEDIATELY. AFTER THE 2ND INCIDENT, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED WITH A GENERIC OBD-II CODE OF P0192. ONLINE RESEARCH HAS FOUND THIS CODE RELATES TO THE FAILURE OF THE VEHICLE'S FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR. VOLVO HAS RECALL #R-181 IN PLACE BUT I AM TOLD BY VOLVO CARE THAT MY CAR IS EXCLUDED FROM ELIGIBILITY FOR THIS RECALL BASED ON THE CHASSIS NUMBER - DESPITE HAVING THE SAME ENGINE CODE (61) AND EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE AS DESCRIBED IN THE VOLVO RECALL NOTICE. I HAVE FOUND A NUMBER OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON VARIOUS WEBSITE FORUMS AND EVEN THIS (NHTSA) WEBSITE. IT WOULD SEEM TO ME THAT VOLVO MAY HAVE TO RE-VISIT THE CRITERIA FOR HOW THEY DETERMINED WHICH VEHICLES ARE AFFECTED BY THIS FAULTY FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR. HAVING TO PAY $300+ OUT OF POCKET FOR A KNOWN FAULTY PRODUCT IS INSULTING. *TR
WHEN I DRIVE MY MANUAL TRANSMISSION S60R VOLVO, AND I SHIFT I HEAR A LOUD THUD IN THE BACK OF THE CAR, I CHECKED EVERYTHING THAT COULD POSSIBLY BE MAKING THE NOISE AND SECURED IT, IT BOTHERED ME SO MUCH I TOOK IT TO THE VOLVO DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS ACTUALLY BECAUSE OF THE SUSPENSION SOFTWARE AND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS, HOWEVER IT WAS NOT APPLICABLE FOR MY VIN. HE SAID THIS WAS THE BEST GUESS HE COULD MAKE, I INFORMED HIM THAT IT ONLY MAKES THE NOISE IF YOU MAKE A PRETTY GENTAL SHIFT, BUT IT CAN HAPPEN AT ANY TIME. *TR
I DRIVE A VOLVO S60R AND WHEN I AM ACCELERATING I NOTICE THAT I HAVE A VERY LARGE LACK OF POWER GOING FROM 3000 TO 3500 RPM'S, THERE IS ALMOST NO INCREASE IN POWER. I HAVE BROUGHT UP THE ISSUE WITH A VOLVO DEALER AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS, BUT MY CAR FOR SOME REASON DID NOT GET THE RECALL. HE SAID IT IS THE SAME ISSUE BUT THERE WAS NOTHING HE CAN DO ABOUT IT. *TR
2004 VOLVO S60 IGNITION KEY FAILURE: KEY REFUSED TO TURN CAR WILL NOT START. CAR WILL NOT GO IN TO NEUTRAL. CAR MUST BE ABANDONED OCCUPANTS MUST SEEK TRANSPORTATION. FIRST OCCURRENCE APRIL 17TH 2008. SECOND OCCURRENCE JULY 5TH. 2010. CAR TOWED TO DEALER AND IGNITION LOCK REPLACED BOTH TIMES. TOTAL COST $1662.48. *TR
THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON IN MY 2004 VOLVO S60. THE CAR WOULD LOOSE ACCELERATION. TOOK IT TO OUR MECHANIC AND HE SAID IT WAS THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR AND THAT IT HAD BEEN RECALLED BY VOLVO- RECALL # 07V226000. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT THE VIN # OF MY CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. IT WAS THE SAME PART THAT WAS RECALLED ON OTHER 2004 S60S. THE COST WAS $450 TO REPAIR. *TR
AT ANY GIVEN TIME THE VEHICLE STALLS. I LOOSE ALL POWER AND HAVE TO RESTART THE CAR. I'VE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALER THEY DON'T GIVE ME AN ANSWER. FINALLY THEY GAVE ME A LIST OF ITEMS THAT SAY MAY BE THE PROBLEM, BUT ARE NOT SURE IT'S THE PROBLEM. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 VOLVO S60. WHILE TURNING ON THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR WAS THE CAUSE FOR THE LIGHT. THE DEALER RESET THE SENSOR. THE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN SO THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT FUEL SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 93,000.
I HAVE 2004 VOLVO S60VOLVO . I WAS TRYING TO RAISE MY VEHICLE ON THE OEM JACK CAME WITH MY CAR TO CHANGE THE WHEEL. AFTER FEW SECOND I REMOVED MY TIRE , THE JACK COLLAPSED - AND MY CAR CAME CRASHING DOWN. I WAS LUCKY AS I HAD STUCK MY HEAD INTO THE WHEEL WELL MOMENTS BEFORE TO CHECK MY BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS, AND HAD MY FINGERS AROUND THE SUSPENSION LINKAGES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 VOLVO S60R. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35-40 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN JERKING AND SUDDENLY STALLED. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE WHICH FUNCTIONED PROPERLY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED TWICE AFTER THE INITIAL TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED RECALL 07V226000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) BUT WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 49,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 52,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 VOLVO S60. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING IN WET CONDITIONS AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, WITH ALL WHEEL DRIVE ENGAGED, THE EXHAUST SYSTEM WOULD EXPAND, CAUSING IT TO RUB AGAINST THE DRIVETRAIN. THE FAILURE CAUSED A LOUD NOISE UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP TO HAVE AN EXHAUST BRACKET APPLIED. THE CONTACT FELT THAT THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD HAVE BEEN RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR EXPENSES AS IT WAS UNSAFE TO HAVE MOVING OBJECTS RUBBING AGAINST EACH OTHER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 70,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 VOLVO S60. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SEVERAL TIMES WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD SUDDENLY SHUT DOWN ACCOMPANIED BY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR MALFUNCTIONED AND CAUSED THE FAILURE TO OCCUR; HOWEVER, THE DEALER STATED THAT RECALL 07V226000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) DID NOT INCLUDE THE CONTACTS VIN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 110,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 112,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 VOLVO S60. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 30 MPH UPHILL WHEN THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO LOSE POWER ABNORMALLY. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND ADVISED THAT THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE. THE MECHANIC REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V226000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AND ADVISED THAT THE RECALL WAS ASSOCIATED WITH THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT HOWEVER, THAT HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
DELAMINATION OF BRIDGESTONE BLIZZAK 15 INCH SNOW TIRE AT HIGHWAY SPEED, REAR LEFT TIRE. NO INJURY OR DAMAGE BUT TIRE TREAD COMPLETELY SEPARATED FROM SIDEWALL AS ONE UNIT LIKE A DONUT. 1 YEAR OLD TIRES WITH LESS THAN 10,000 MILES. *TR

2004 S60 VOLVO STALLS WHILE DRIVING. MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE STALLED WHILE TURNING, FORCING THE DRIVER TO DRIVE OFF THE ROAD TO AVOID TRAFFIC. HE RECEIVED ENGINE ERROR CODES THAT WERE REFERENCED IN RECALL ID NUMBER: 07V226000. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 62000. 2004 VOLVO S60 R AWD WITH LESS THAN 65,000 MILES STARTED LEAKING FUEL THAT IS RUNNING DOWN THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE GAS TANK AND THERE IS A VERY STRONG PUNGENT GAS ODOR EMITTED FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. TOOK THE CAR TO VOLVO OF GEORGETOWN AND LOCAL VOLVO MECHANIC WHO BOTH TOLD ME THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED A NEW FUEL PUMP BUT I WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE S60 FUEL PUMP RECALL A FEW YEARS PRIOR. BIG SAFETY HAZARD AND CONCERN! *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 VOLVO S60. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE HESITATED, DECREASED IN ENGINE PERFORMANCE, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT TURNED OFF THE IGNITION RESTARTED IT TO MOVE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON FOUR OTHER OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 87,000.
CERTIFIED PREVIOUSLY OWNED VEHICLE STALLED DUE TO BUTTERFLY VALVE WITHIN THROTTLE BODY NOT OPENING FAST ENOUGH WHEN GOING AROUND A CORNER AND TOO MUCH LOAD ON THE ENGINE. EXAMPLE: EXITED FREEWAY AND WAS TURNING LEFT WHILE BRAKING DUE TO UPCOMING RED LIGHT. THE ENGINE STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AT APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH. LOST STEERING AND BRAKING POWER. THE PROBLEM WAS FIRST NOTICED WHEN MAKING RIGHT TURNS AND HAVING TO SUDDENLY BRAKE FOR A PEDESTRIAN, BICYCLIST, OR OTHER TRAFFIC HAZARD AND THE ENGINE STALLING OR FLUTTERING AT MUCH LOWER SPEEDS. AS IT WORSENED OVER THE COURSE OF A WEEK IT WAS ULTIMATELY THE WORST WITH THE MID-INTERSECTION STALL. AT THIS POINT WE WERE AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE FOR FEAR OF CRASHING. VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED FROM A DEALER AS CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED 68,735 MILES ON 05/02/2008 AND WAS TAKEN TO DEALER FOR STALLING AT 76,678 MILES ON 08/15/2009. DEALER REPORTED THIS AS A MAINTENANCE ISSUE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. REPAIRS FOR CLEANING THE THROTTLE BODY, RESETTING VALVE, AND INSTALLING NEW GASKETS WAS $402.93. VEHICLE ORIGINALLY PURCHASED IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. VEHICLE MOVED TO WASHINGTON IN FEBRUARY OF 2009. *TR
IN JULY OF 2009 DURING THE WASHINGTON STATE HEAT WAVE, WHERE TEMPERATURES REACHED 104, MY 2004 VOLVO S60R EXPERIENCED A ENGINE SHUTDOWN ON THE FREEWAY THAT WAS DESCRIBED IN A RECALL (07V226000) FOR MY MODEL AND YEAR. MY VEHICLES VIN WAS NOT PART OF THE VEHICLES THAT WERE PART OF THE RECALL HOWEVER I THINK YOU SHOULD EXPAND THE RANGE SINCE MY VEHICLE ALSO HAD THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR REPLACED TO SOLVE THE ISSUE. I STILL HAVE THE PART IF YOU WANT TO EXAMINE IT. I HAVE READ THE CONSEQUENCES PART OF THE RECALL (07V226000) AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I EXPERIENCED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 VOLVO S60. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THERE WAS NO RESPONSE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. SUDDENLY,THE ENGINE STALLED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION. THE TECHNICIAN STARTED THE ENGINE, BUT WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURES. I OWN A 2004 VOLVO S60R THAT HAS TURN SIGNAL ISSUES. THERE WAS NO EVENT LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE. SIMPLY ONE DAY IT NO LONGER WORKED 100% OF THE TIME. WHEN USING THE TURN INDICATOR STOCK TO SIGNAL A LEFT TURN IT WILL NOT DO SO IF I FULLY DEPRESS IT INTO THE LOCK POSITION. IF I HOLD IT ONLY PART OF THE WAY BEFORE IT LOCKS INTO THE POSITION IT SOMETIMES WORKS. IF I DO PUT IT INTO THE FULLY LOCKED POSITION AND TURN THE STEERING WHEEL SOMETIMES IT MAY WORK AND SOMETIMES IT MAY NOT. THIS ONLY EFFECTS THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL AND NOT THE RIGHT. I HAVE A 2004 VOLVO S60 WITH 57,700 MILES. ALL WORK ON THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN DONE BY VOLVO. RECENTLY, WHEN THE AC IS ON, THE FAN SPEED HAS STOPPED RESPONDING TO ADJUSTMENTS.
