This page combines three types of NHTSA data: recall campaigns (official manufacturer or government actions), owner complaints (unverified consumer reports), and crash test ratings (where available). A vehicle with many complaints is not necessarily less reliable — complaint volume correlates with sales volume and vehicle age. Recalls indicate identified defects, not overall quality. To compare this model year with others, use the year navigation in the sidebar or return to the model overview page.
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2007-2012 Audi Q7 and 2009-2012 Audi Q5 vehicles, previously repaired under NHTSA recall 16V-660. These vehicles were previously repaired with an interim repair of installing butyl tape to the fuel pump flange, until replacement remedy parts became available.
Remedy Status
Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel pump flange and install butyl tape, free of charge. The recall began December 28, 2018. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 20BJ.
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2009-2012 Audi Q5, and 2007-2012 Audi Q7 vehicles equipped with gasoline engines. The fuel pump flange on the affected vehicles may crack, allowing fuel to leak.
Remedy Status
Audi will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the flange, replacing any flanges that are cracked. If the flange is not cracked, dealers will clean the pump flange and install a butyl rubber band to protect the pump. These repairs will be made free of charge. The recall began November 9, 2016. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 20W9.
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Audi) is recalling certain 2009-2015 Q7 vehicles. The Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) listed on the certification label is incorrect, which can allow the vehicle to be overloaded. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims," and Part 567, "Certification."
Remedy Status
Dealers will install an overlay label containing the correct rear GAWR on top of the existing safety certification label, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 24, 2023. Owners may contact Audi's customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Audi's number for this recall is 50G5.

The tread separation at edge top of tire, Yokohama Parada Spec-x P275/45R20. Driving on Highway I-44. Started filling a weird vibration in the steering wheel. Stopped and found tore tread on tire.
Yokohama Parada Spec-x tire, R275/45/R20 tread separation from belt. Second tire to do so since the start of 2024. Had to buy another brand name and tire after second tire separated from belts on 07/03/2024, causing me to spend $983.59 on new tires. There definitely something wrong with this line of Yokohama tires.
The tread started tearing away from the tire, and sidewall. Less than 5k on tires.
Large fuel leak from fuel pump flange. Vehicle has had the recall 20W9 performed in 2018 as can be seen by the black butyl sticker on the assembly. However, this failed to prevent the flange from cracking and subsequently creating a large fuel leak. This is the very failure the recall was intended to prevent. Part is available for inspection if necessary as well as work order from original recall.
The contact owns a 2010 Audi Q7. The contact stated that after having the car washed, the radio was operating on and off independently. The contact mentioned that every time that it rained the failure recurred and the heated seat was operating on and off independently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the amplifier needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 76,000.
ISSUE IS SIMILAR TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID 16V660000, THE FUEL CAP FLANGE HAS BUTYL TAPE ON IT AND HAS STARTED LEAKING FUEL. THE GARAGE HAS A STRONG FUEL ODOR AND IS A FIRE HAZARD. THE PART IS ABOUT 250 DOLLARS, DIAGNOSIS WAS 150 AND INSTALLATION IS ABOUT 1.5 HOUR WHICH IS A GRAND TOTAL OF 750 DOLLARS. WHY IS MY VIN NOT IN THE RECALL, IF ITS A DEFLECTIVE PART, RECOGNIZED BY AUDI.
FUEL PUMP CRACKED AND WAS LEAKING FUEL ON MY GARAGE FLOOR WHICH COULD CASE A CATASTROPHIC FIRE.
MY 2010 AUDI Q7 WITH 59K MILES ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND IT WAS STARTING PRETTY ROUGH. I BROUGHT IT 200 YARDS UP THE STREET TO MY LOCAL GARAGE AND THEY SAID IT'S A BIGGER DEAL AND TO BRING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY TOLD ME IT'S A TIMING CHAIN ISSUE AND I LOOKED IT UP AND SAW THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT, RECALL, AND SETTLEMENT ON MOST AUDI'S - BUT SEEMED TO EXCLUDE Q7. RESEARCHING, I FOUND OUT AUDI DECIDED IN 2008 TO CHANGE THEIR TIMING CHAIN. EVEN THO I SHOWED THEM THE MAINTENANCE RECORDS OF OIL CHANGES LESS THAN 10K MILES, THEY DECLINED TO PICK UP THE COST OF THE REPAIR.THIS IS CLEARLY A RECALL ISSUE.

DRIVING AT NIGHT ON THE HIGHWAY IN RAIN WITH WIPERS ON, THE PASSENGER SIDE WIPER ARM SNAPPED IN HALF CREATING A DANGEROUS SITUATION. REMAINING CALM, DROVE TO MY DESTINATION WHERE I SAW THE WIPER ARM SNAPPED OFF.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 AUDI Q7. THE CONTACT NOTICED A STRONG FUEL ODOR NEAR THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V660000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) IN 2016. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. AUDI ALBUQUERQUE (8900 PAN AMERICAN FWY NE, ALBUQUERQUE, NM 87113, (505) 821-4000) WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE SECOND RECALL FOR THE FAILURE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 135,000.
VEHICLE WAS STATIONERY IN HEAVY RAIN. TURN WINDSHIELD WIPERS ON AND WITHIN A FEW SECONDS PASSENGER SIDE WIPER ARM BROKE IN HALF.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 AUDI Q7. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND POWERED OFF THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AS INTENDED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AUDI OF LYNBROOK (855 SUNRISE HWY, LYNBROOK, NY 11563, (516) 887-5300) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR FILTER WAS CLOGGED AND THERE WAS A TEAR IN THE TURBO THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 119,000.
CAR DECELERATES RAPIDLY WHILE DRIVING EVEN THROUGH YOU HAVE PRESSURE ON THE ACCELERATOR. THEN FEW JERKS HAPPEN AND CAR RETURNS BACK TO NORMAL ACCELERATION. THIS WHOLE PROCESS REPEATS INTERMITTENTLY. THIS FIRST HAPPENED ON A BUSY FREEWAY. THEN THIS HAS BEEN REPEATING FREQUENTLY. AUDI IS UNABLE TO FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM AND ARE SUGGESTING REPLACING THE WHOLE FUEL SYSTEM WHICH MAY POTENTIALLY FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY ARE NOT SURE. I AM NOT SURE IF THIS IS A MANUFACTURING ISSUE WHICH CAN START HAPPENING TO OTHER VEHICLES. BUT THIS IS DEFINITELY A DANGEROUS SAFETY ISSUE.
DRIVING ON RT 93 SOUTHBOUND IN MA DURING A HEAVY RAINSTORM THE PASSENGER SIDE WIPER ARM SNAPPED OFF COMPLETELY AT THE BASE. I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING AFTER THE INITIAL SHCCK OF THE ARM BREAKING OFF.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 AUDI Q7. WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND RELEASED, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL ODOR OF FUEL INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED CONTINUOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP CAP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 72,000. MA 10/16/15 UPDATED 11/28/217*CN
MY FAMILY VEHICLE IS A 2010 AUDI Q7 TDI, PRESTIGE EDITION. THIS IS THE VEHICLE WE ALWAYS TAKE WITH THE CHILDREN, AGES 1 AND 2. RECENTLY, WE HAD AN UNKNOWN BATTERY DRAIN, AND SO TODAY I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE SERVICED. APPROXIMATELY 20 MINUTES INTO THE DRIVE, I HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE A GUNSHOT INSIDE THE VEHICLE. I THEN REALIZED THE SUNROOF HAD EXPLODED FROM THE INSIDE AND THERE WAS GLASS EVERYWHERE. THERE WERE NO ROCKS, AND ONLY A FEW VEHICLES A SAFE DISTANCE AHEAD OF ME - EVEN SO, A ROCK WOULD HAVE HAD TO TRAVEL STRAIGHT UP AND THEN STRAIGHT DOWN TO SHATTER THE SUNROOF IN THIS MANNER. THERE WERE NO BRIDGES OR UNDERPASSES. I WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE CAR, DESPITE HAVING SHATTERED GLASS ALL OVER MYSELF, IN MY HAIR, COFFEE MUG, ETC. THIS IS PROBABLY THE ONLY TIME I'VE DRIVEN THE VEHICLE WITHOUT THE CHILDREN, AND AM ABSOLUTELY THANKFUL THEY WERE NOT IN THE VEHICLE AS BOTH CAR SEATS WERE COVERED IN GLASS. THE CAR WILL HAVE TO BE DETAILED BEFORE THEY CAN RIDE IN IT AGAIN DUE TO THE SHEER VOLUME OF BROKEN GLASS. I TOOK PHOTOS OF THE DAMAGE, AND THE REMAINING GLASS BENDED UPWARD ON THE EDGE OF THE DAMAGE - INDICATING IT BROKE FROM THE INSIDE-OUT. ONE DOES AS MUCH RESEARCH AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE BEFORE PURCHASING A FAMILY VEHICLE BUT AN EXPLODING SUNROOF (PANORAMIC) IS NOT SOMETHING ONE WOULD ANTICIPATE. THIS SHOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED - NOT EVEN ONCE - AND IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. *TR
MY 2010 AUDI Q7 HAS A SERIOUS BRAKING ISSUE. WHEN THE ENGINE IS STARTED, IF YOU PUT THE VEHICLE INTO DRIVE, IT WILL ROLL FORWARD AND THE BRAKE WILL NOT STOP THE ROLLING. YOU MUST WAIT ROUGHLY 1 MINUTE FOR THE VEHICLE TO NOT ROLL. THE TIME IS SHORTER IN THE SUMMER, AND LONGER IN THE WINTER. THE BRAKES DO NOT WORK, AND IT IS AS IF THE COMPUTER HAS A GLITCH. I WILL DEPRESS THE BRAKE, AND THE VEHICLE WILL ROLL FORWARD ABOUT 10 FEET. THIS HAPPENS IN BOTH REVERSE AND FORWARD. MY CONCERN IS THAT ONE COULD START THE CAR, IMMEDIATELY PUT IT INTO GEAR, AND HIT A PENDESTRIAN, CHILD, OR OTHER PROPERTY AND NOT BE ABLE TO STOP THE CAR UNLESS THEY INTUITIVELY KNOW TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL OR PARK, WHICH MOST DRIVERS WILL NOT DO. I AM WILLING TO SHOW THIS TO AN NHTSA REPRESENTATIVE. I BELIEVE THIS NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED AND AUDI NEEDS TO RECALL THESE CARS FOR A PROPER FIX. I CALLED AUDI'S NORTH AMERICAN HOTLINE TO REPORT THIS, AND THE RECEPTIONIST DID NOT PUT ME IN TOUCH WITH A MANAGER OR A SAFETY REPRESENTATIVE. SHE SAID THE CAR NEEDS TO GO TO THE SHOP AND BE REPAIRED. MY AUTO MECHANICS SAY THEY CAN'T REPAIR THIS, AND IT IS A MANUFACTURER PROBLEM. AUDI NORTH AMERICA STAFF SHOULD HAVE TAKEN MY INFORMATION, PASSED IT TO A MANAGER, AND CONTACTED ME, BUT THEY REFUSED TO, SAYING IT WAS A MECHANICAL ISSUE WITH MY VEHICLE. I HAVE NO OTHER OPTIONS BUT TO CONTACT NHTSA. I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR SINCE 2014, I FIRST NOTICED THE PROBLEM THEN, AND ADAPTED TO THIS PROBLEM. I SHOULD HAVE TOLD YOU MUCH SOONER THAN NOW. I APOLOGIZE. I KNOW HOW TO DEAL WITH THIS PROBLEM, BUT IF IT IS IN ANY OTHER AUDIS, THERE MAY BE PEDESTRIAN INJURIES OR DEATHS.
HPFP HAS ATOMIZED...AGAIN!!.... YES, AGAIN!!...STEERING LOCKED UP WHILE VEHICLE HAD SHUT DOWN AND WAS STILL MOVING ....APROX. 15 MPH...ALMOST HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE !!! MY 3 CHILDREN,9,12,14, WERE IN THE VEHICLE THIS TIME!! VERY DANGEROUS!! PLEASE SEE FIRST COMPLAINT... *TR
