The contact owns a 2001 Audi TT. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 MPH and following a slight left curve in the road, the rear end of the vehicle was drifting to the left and to the right violently. The contact had difficulty regaining control of the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that before the loss of control there was an abnormal sound like metal striking the ground from the rear of the vehicle. The contact stated slowed the vehicle and was able to drive back to the residence. The contact stated that he observed that the rear driver's side tire was leaning into the wheel well at an angle. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Additionally, the contact stated that prior to the failure, the check brake warning, electronic stability control, and the air bag warning lights were illuminated. The contact depressed the brake pedal, and the pedal was soft and spongy. The contact refilled the brake reservoir, and the brake warning light turned off; however, the brake warning light illuminated again. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the rear suspension failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 01V325000 (Suspension). The failure mileage was approximately 144,000.
The contact owns a 2001 Audi TT. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 MPH, the vehicle crashed into a deer causing significant damage to the front end. During the crash, neither the front driver side nor passenger side air bags were deployed. The driver sustained an injured neck and lower back which required medical treatment. The front seat passenger was not injured. The vehicle was later towed to the home. No police report was taken. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the incident. The failure mileage was 94,000.
HEADLIGHTS JUST STOPPED WORKING AGAIN FOR THE UMPTEENTH TIME. PARK LIGHT AND HIGH BEAMS WORK FINE. THIS IS A REOCCURRING PROBLEM WITH THE LOW BEAMS. CAN BE DRIVING ALONG FINE AND CUT CAR OFF AND START BACK UP AND LOW BEAMS JUST WON'T COME ON. IF IT WAS 1 AT A TIME I COULD SEE IT AS BEING NO PROBLEM BUT THEY BOTH STOP WORKING AT THE SAME TIME. KEEP REPLACING SWITCH AND HEADLIGHTS...THINKING THIS WOULD ALLEVIATE PROBLEM TO NO AVAIL. SEE THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH AUDI OWNERS. ALSO SEE THAT IT'S A RECALL ON THE NEWER MODELS BUT NOT THE LATE MODELS.
MY VEHICLE HAS BE TAKEN BY A WOMAN THAT WAS FRAUDULANT TO ME BY TRADING ANOTHER PERSONS VEHICLE TO ME AND I BELIEVE MY VEHICLE IS IN THE HANDS OF A CAR THIEF WHO CLAIMED TO BE A NOTARTY, BECAUSE THE TITLE OF THE VEHICLE GIVEN TO ME WAS FRUDULANT. THE PHONE NUMBER OF THIS WOMAN IS HOW I FOUND OUT THAT SHE WAS NOT WHO SHE SAID SHE WAS. BEING THAT I FOUND OUT SHE WAS NOT THE TRUE OWNER OF THE TRADED VEHICLE. I FOUND OUT HER TRUE IDENTITY BY LOOKING UP THE DESCRIBED NAME FROM THE PHONE ID CHECK AND THEN BY FACEBOOK. THE LAW INFORCMENT OFFICERS THAT I HAD TALK TO ARE NOT WANTING TO HELP ME REPORT MY CAR STOLEN TO GET MY CAR BACK INSTEAD THEY ARE TELLING ME TO SIGN A RELEASE OF OWNERSHIP SO THEN I WONT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT HAPPENS TO IT. SO FAR I HAVE RECIVED TOLL CHARGES CAUSED BY THE FRUDULANT WOMAN THAT HAS AFFECTED MY LICENSE. AND IN ORDER TO TAKE CARE OF THESE TOLL BILLS I NEED I STOLEN VEHICLES REPORT TO SHOW THAT IT WASNT ME WHO CAUSED THE TOLL BILLS. THEREFORE I AM MAKING THIS REPORT SO I CAN BE HEARD THAT THIS CAR THIEF NEEDS TO BE STOPPED. AND SHE NEEDS TO RETURN MY VEHICLE, BUT I JUST DONT KNOW WHY Y VEHICLE CANT BE REPORTED AS STOLEN.
"TAKATA RECALL" INTERMITTENTLY HAS NO POWER THE RPM REV HIGH WITH NO POWER IN ACCELERATOR THIS HAS HAPPENED ON AND OFF THE HIGHWAY AND WHILE MERGING INTO TRAFFIC THE CAR BECOMES POWERLESS. THERE HAVE BEEN NO STALLING JUST ALL OF A SUDDEN HAS NO POWER AND THE RPM'S REV HIGH BUT YOU'RE GOING NOWHERE. IT'S NOT SPUTTERING JUST BECOMES POWERLESS THERE IS NO SPECIFIC GEAR
ELECTRICAL ISSUE WITH GAUGE CLUSTER, FUEL GAUGE INACCURATE (RUNS OUT OF GAS IN MIDDLE OF HWY), LOW OIL PRESSURE LIGHT COMES ON (MANUAL SAYS TO STOP IMMEDIATELY WHEN LIGHT COMES ON), AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON! EVERYTHING I HAVE READ STATES THESE ARE ALL PROBLEMS WITH THE GAUGE CLUSTER (COST OVER $1000 TO HAVE REPLACED!) AUDI USA KNOWS ABOUT PROBLEM BUT REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. AUDI HAS A RECALL IN THE UK FOR THIS PROBLEM, WHY NOT HERE IN THE U.S. ?? THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE!
While driving on a city street in Ann Arbor Michigan, the manual transmission shift lever snapped off. The lever detached at the base right above the spring assembly that allows the shifter to be moved into reverse. I was stuck in third gear and had to feather the clutch and keep the revs high in order to get through a traffic light and pull into a parking garage. The part required a complete replacement (completed myself).
THIS IS A KNOW PROBLEM WITH AUDI. THEY REFUSE TO RECALL, BUT I WANTED TO JUST ADD TO THE LIST OF PEOPLE HAVING AN ISSUE HERE. THE GAUGES ARE FLICKERING (GAUGE CLUSTER). THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL.

FAILURE OF THE "AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE" ON OUR 2001 AUDI TT. THIS FAILURE , IF NOT REPAIRED, WILL LEAD TO THE AIR BAG SYSTEM ON THE CAR NOT WORKING AUDI REFUSES TO HELP WITH THE REPAIR, WHICH IS OVER $1000. WE FEEL THIS SAFETY ISSUE SHOULD BE REPAIRED BY AUDI. *TR
I HAVE A 2001 AUDI TT. I BOUGHT IT THREW A DEALERSHIP OUT OF STATE ONLINE. WENT AND PICK IT UP AND WAS FINE BUT A COUPLE OF WEEKS WENT BY AND STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH INSTRUMENT PANEL NO GAS GAUGE SPEEDOMETER TEMPERATURE GAUGE OR DASH LIGHTS. THEY WILL GO OUT JUST RIDING UP THE ROAD AND DOES IT MORE SINCE ITS COLDER WEATHER SO I STARTED LOOKING IN TO THIS MATTER AND THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH AUDI AND I THINK THEY SHOULD MAKE THIS RIGHT AND PLUS ITS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE TO ME THANK YOU FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE IN THIS MATTER. *TR

WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH UP AN INCLINE THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHUTTER, THE CONTACT THEN APPLIED THE BRAKES AND NOTICED THAT THEY WOULD NOT ENGAGE. IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE VACUUM PIPE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WAS 68000.
2001 AUDI TT, AIR BAG LIGHT STAYS ON. PURCHASED THE CAR NEW IN 2001, LIGHT CAME ON AT 15K MILES, HAD CLUSTER REPLACED TOOK CARE OF PROBLEM FOR A WEEK, BROUGHT BACK TO DEALER HAD FIXED AGAIN. LASTED ABOUT 2 WEEKS. AT 30 K MILES BROUGHT CAR BACK TO DEALER FOR RECALL OF CLUSTER, PROBLEM FIXED FOR ABOUT 500 MILES. THE CAR NOW HAS 31K MILES LIGHT IS STILL ON. I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH MOST EARLY AUDI TT FROM 2000 TO 2004 AND SOME AFTER. NO ONE HAS MENTIONED A VALID SOLUTION ONLY THAT THEY KEEP BRINGING THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER, SPENDING A LOT OF MONEY AND ONLY HAVING A SHORT TERM FIX. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND AUDI SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY TO RESOLVE. DRIVERS DON'T KNOW IF THE AIRBAGS WILL WORK PROPERLY DURING A CRASH. *TR
ON OUR AUDI TT 2001 CONVERTIBLE, THE ELECTRICAL OUTLETS UNDERNEATH THE DASHBOARD CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AND AFTER AN INVESTIGATION, FOUND NO KNOWN CAUSE OF FIRE. ALSO, PRIOR TO THIS FIRE, THE TIP OF THE SPARK PLUG FELL INTO THE ENGINE CYLINDER BLOCK, CAUSING US THE OWNERS TO PAY IN FULL FOR A NEW ENGINE HEAD TO BE REPLACED....LOTS OF MONEY (APPROXIMATELY $8000). WE REPLACED IT THROUGH A WELL KNOWN PROFESSIONAL AUDI SHOP AUTO HAUS MUNICH IN SAN DIEGO. HAZARDOUS LIGHTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED PROFESSIONALLY BECAUSE IT INTERFERED WITH THE SIGNAL LIGHTS. MUCH MONEY & TIME SPENT, AND MANY HEADACHES EXPERIENCED WHILE OWNING THIS BEAUTIFUL YET TROUBLESOME CAR. *TR
MY AUDI TT QUATTRO 2001 FUEL PUMP AND ROLLOVER VALVE TUBING IS COMPLETELY CORROSIVE, WHEN YOU TOUCH THE TUBING IT CRUMBLES.I CALLED AUDI ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND THEY WHERE NOT AWARE OF CORROSIVE GAS TUBING. PLUS THE WIRING FOR THE FUEL PUMP WAS BEAR, ALL THE WIRE COVERING HAD CRUMBLE WHICH CAUSE IT TO SHORT OUT AND NOT WORK. THIS IS ALL INSIDE A FULL TANK OF GAS, IT SEEN VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
AUDI TT, 2001, ROADSTER. THE GLOVE BOX LOCK FAILED WITHOUT REASON. THIS FAILURE DOES NOT ALLOW THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG TO BE DISCONNECTED FOR CHILDREN AS REQUIRED BY LAW. MY CAR IS NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS DEFECT. IT IS A DESIGN FAILURE CREATING A SAFETY HAZARD TO SMALL PASSENGERS. THIS FAILURE IS COMMON TO AUDI TT 2000 THRU 2005. NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED VIA A RECALL, AN IMPROVED GLOVE BOX LOCK SYSTEM. REPAIRING WITH THE SAME SYSTEM ONLY LEADS TO RECURRENT FAILURES. *TR
THE BRAKES FAILED ON THE 2001 AUDI TT SPORTSCAR. THE FIRST TIME THE CAR CRASHED. THE AUDI DEALER SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES. A FEW MONTHS LATER THE BRAKES FAILED AGAIN, AND FORTUNATELY THE CAR DID NOT CRASH. AGAIN, AUDI INSISTS THE BRAKES ARE FINE, BUT OBVIOUSLY, SOMETHING IS SERIOUSLY WRONG. 2001 AUDI TT CONVERTIBLE: THE HORN JUST STOPPED WORKING ONE DAY, THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DISPLAY STARTED TO NOT DISPLAY CLEARLY THEN THE CAR SEEM TO LACK POWER WHEN STARTS UP, CAR THEN WOULD NOT START IN THE MORNINGS, THEN THE CAR WOULD NOT START AFTER BEING LEFT FOR MORE THAN 20 MINUTES, AND THE CAR WOULD OFTEN TOTALLY SHUT OFF WHILE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT THEN AUTOMATICALLY TURN BACK ON AGAIN ALL BY ITSELF. THE BRAKE LIGHTS ALSO STAYED ON AT ALL TIMES EVEN WHEN THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. IGNITION COILS ALSO CAUGHT ON FIRE AFTER CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON FOR ONLY A FEW HOURS. THE CONVERTIBLE TOP WARNING LIGHT IS FLASHING ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, AND THERE IS A RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE CONVERTIBLE TOP LATCH AREA WHILE DRIVING. CONSEQUENCES: DANGEROUS LIFE THREATENING SITUATIONS, FEAR, STRESS, FINANCIAL BURDEN/HARDSHIP, TIME CONSUMING, AND EXTREME INCONVENIENCE. REPAIRS: HORN WAS REPAIRED, INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WAS REPLACED, CONVERTIBLE TOP RATTLE AND WARNING LIGHT NOT REPAIRED, BRAKE SYSTEM WAS REPLACED, AND COILS ALL REPLACED. *TR
PURCHASED A 2001 AUDI TT 225 COUPE ON OCTOBER 2000, EIGHT YEARS LATER AND ONLY 69700 MILES,TIMING BELT FAILS CAUSING MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON, POWER DOOR LOCK BUTTON SOMETIMES DOES NOT WORK, DRIVER SIDE WINDOW SOMETIMES DOES NOT FULLY CLOSE, BUTTON TO PUT THE CONVERTIBLE TOP DOWN SOMETIMES DOES NOT WORK, BUTTON FOR MOTION SENSOR ALARM DOES NOT LIGHT UP WHEN PRESSED, LCD DISPLAY TURNS FULLY RED AND NEXT DAY IS BACK TO NORMAL, REAR DEFROST LINES NOT FULLY OPERABLE, WATER LEAKS IN BETWEEN WINDOW AND DOOR SEAL ON BOTH DOORS. I HAVE JUST PURCHASED MY CAR WITH ABOUT 19000 MILES, A FEW DAYS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON. TOOK IT TO TOYOTA GROSSINGER DEALER AND SAID THAT IT WAS THE FUEL GAGE AND THAT I SHOULD WAIT A FEW MONTHS FOR IT TO TURN ITSELF OFF. I CALLED AUDI DEALERSHIP AND SAID THAT MY CAR HAD NO RECALLS. THEN, I WENT TO A MECHANIC AND SAID THAT COMPUTER SHOWED THAT SOLENOID SENSORS HAD FAILED, SO IT WAS REPLACED. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON AGAIN AND AFTER COMPLAINING WITH FIRST MECHANIC I WENT TO A TURBO PERFORMANCE SPECIALIST AND SAID THAT THE SECONDARY AIR PUMP HAD FAILED. CHANGED IT AND WEEK LATER LIGHT CAME BACK ON SHOWING THE SAME CODE. ALL THROUGHOUT, THE CAR HAS LOST POWER AND A FLUTTERING NOISE IS HEARD FROM FRONT DRIVER SIDE EVERY TIME I CHANGE GEARS. WHEN POWER LOCKS DON'T WORK, I HAVE TO USE THE REMOTE TO UNLOCK DOORS TO GET OUT OF CAR. SOMETIMES I HEAR SPARKS AND CLICKING FROM DASHBOARD DISPLAY. *TR
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SEEMS TO BE DEFECTIVE. IN THE UK, THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL, NOT HERE IN THE US. (OTHERS HAVE COMPLAINED ON ONLINE FORUMS AND AT THE DEALERSHIP, FOUR OTHERS HAVE THE PROBLEM AND INSTRUMENT PANELS ARE ON ORDER). I HAVE A PERFECTLY MAINTAINED VEHICLE AND NOW THE INSTRUMENT PANEL (INCLUDING THE GAUGE AND COMPUTER) ARE GIVING ME WRONG INFORMATION. THE "GET FUEL" INDICATOR ON THE COMPUTER COMES ON AT OVER 1/4 A TANK AND THE FUEL GAUGE SEEMS TO BE OFF. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 AUDI TT QUATTRO. WHILE PULLING INTO THE DRIVEWAY AT 5 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE. SHE NOTICED THAT THE TIRE WAS NOT ALIGNED WITH THE OTHER THREE TIRES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR CONTROL ARM BOLT WAS CORRODED AND FAILED, ALONG WITH THE REAR SUSPENSION COIL. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 01V325000 (SUSPENSION:REAR). THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY BEING REPAIRED AT THE COST OF $1,500. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
I AM DRIVING A MANUAL 6 GEAR AUDI TT ROADSTER 2001. IN 2008, APPROX 2 MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT IT USED I SHIFTED GEAR AND ALL OF A SUDDEN HELD THE SHIFT IN MY HAND, IT HAD CLEANLY BROKEN OFF THE GEAR BOX. THE LEVER WAS FIXED AND IT COST ME ABOUT 600.- TO HAVE THAT PART REPAIRED. *TR
THIRD INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ON A 2001 AUDI TT ROADSTER. FUEL GAUGE AT FIRST SHOWED TOO MUCH FUEL. AFTER A NEW CLUSTER THE FUEL GAUGE SHOWS LOW WHEN ITS NOT. APPARENTLY THE SENDING UNIT IS THE CAUSE BUT AUDI IS IGNORANT OF THE ISSUE AND DOES NOT HAVE A REPAIR SOLUTION. I DARE SAY AUDI DOES NOT CARE ABOUT ITS CARS, THEIR PROBLEMS AND THEIR CUSTOMERS. *TR
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, FUEL, TEMP, SPEED AND RPM, ALL FAILED TO WORK. CAR HAS LESS THAN 14,000 MILES. OUT OF WARRANTY. VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
CAR SHOWS 1/4 OF FUEL IN TANK WHEN TANK IS COMPLETELY EMPTY CAUSING ME TO RUN OUT OF GAS MULTIPLE TIMES IN HAZARDOUS SITUATIONS. I CAN NOT READ THE LCD SCREEN SO I CAN NOT SEE ANY WARNING LIGHTS (GAS, OIL CHANGE, TRUNK OPEN, ETC). MY INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TELLS ME THAT MY VEHICLE IS CONSTANTLY OVERHEATING, WHICH IS FALSE. SOMETIMES WHEN I TURN MY LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD WILL NOT LIGHT UP, NOR WILL IT REGISTER MY RPMS OR EVEN MY SPEED. THE CLUSTER HAS NOW FAILED COMPLETELY, WHICH PREVENTED MY CAR FROM EVEN STARTING SO I HAD TO GET IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. FURTHER MORE, AUDI HAS REFUSED TO FULLY PAY FOR THIS ITEM TO BE REPLACED EVEN THOUGH IT HAS BEEN RECALLED! OUTRAGEOUS. *TR
2001 AUDI TT ROADSTER 1.8T. THE TACHOMETER IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DOES NOT FUNCTION, THE NEEDLE IS STUCK ON ZERO AND DOES NOT GAUGE RPM WHEN VEHICLE IS IN USE. THE AUDI DEALER IN SAN ANTONIO TX (CAVENDER AUDI) STATES THAT THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PANEL NEEDS TO BE REPLACED...TOTAL COST 700 DOLLARS FOR PARTS AND 150 DOLLARS LABOR. THE CAR HAD A TOTAL OF 38,800 MILES ON THE ODOMETER WHEN THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED. CURRENTLY IT HAS 39,350 MILES. *TR
THE FUEL GAUGE ON MY 2001 AUDI TT QUATTRO NO LONGER WORKS AND DOES NOT PROPERLY INDICATE THE AMOUNT OF FUEL IN MY TANK. THIS HAPPENS WHENEVER THE CAR IS OPERATING. FAILURE OF GAS GAUGE AND ULTIMATE FAILURE OF INSTRUMENT CLUSTER IN 2001 AUDI TT. LOST POWER ON VERY BUSY HIGHWAY IN A HEAVY SNOWSTORM, LUCKILY WAS ABLE TO GET TO SHOULDER. HAD TO BE TOWED. GAS GAUGE INDICATED ONE-HALF TANK OF GAS, BUT TURNS OUT TANK WAS EMPTY. GAUGE NEVER OPERATED PROPERLY AFTER THAT. SEVERAL WEEKS LATER, RECEIVED NOTICE OF CLASS ACTION NOTING SIMILAR INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FAILURES IN THIS TYPE OF CAR, AND EXTENSION OF WARRANTY TO 6 YEARS. UNFORTUNATELY MY CAR HAS BEEN IN SERVICE 7.5 YEARS AND IS NOT COVERED BY THE EXTENSION SO I WILL BE PERSONALLY LIABLE FOR THE $1,000 COST FOR REPAIR FOR THIS KNOWN PROBLEM. *TR
I HAVE A FAULTY INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ON MY AUDI TT 2001 ROASTER. THIS PART CONTROLS THE TACHOMETER, ODOMETER, SPEEDOMETER, FUEL GAUGE, TEMPERATURE GAUGE AND ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS FOR OIL PRESSURE, COOLANT LEVELS, ETC. THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT PARTS FOR THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS THE SECOND INSTRUMENT CLUSTER THAT HAS HAD TO BE REPLACED IN THE VEHICLE. THE INITIAL CLUSTER WAS FAULTY AND DISPLAYED INACCURATE GAS GAUGE READINGS, IT WAS REPLACED IN 2002/3. MY CURRENT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER IS DISPLAYING INACCURATE TEMPERATURE READINGS. I HAVE REVIEWED INFORMATION ON WEBSITES (EDMUNDS CARE SPACE AT EDMUNDS.COM; AUDI TT CAR CLUB AT AUDITTCCA.COM, ETC.), AND UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. AUDI UK RECALLED THIS COMPONENT ON THE 2001 AUDI TT AND HAVE AGREED TO COVER ALL PREVIOUS COSTS OF REPAIR. A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT HAS BEEN FILED IN CALIFORNIA REGARDING THIS PROBLEM (WWW.CLASSCOUNSEL.COM/NEWS/AUDI.HTML). THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER GOES ON THE BLINK AND DOESN'T WORK EFFICIENTLY. SINCE IT PROVIDES FALSE READINGS, THE OPERATOR HAS TO GAUGE SPEED, FUEL CAPACITY, AND DEAL WITH EMERGENCY ACTIONS DURING ENGINE FAILURE WHILE DRIVING UNDER HEAVY TRAFFIC CONDITIONS. THIS ACTION IS A SURE CAUSE FOR UNSAFE VEHICLE OPERATION. THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ALSO DISABLES THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM TO KEEP THE ENGINE OPERATING AND CAUSES THE CAR TO TURN OFF UNEXPECTEDLY. THE GAUGE CLUSTER WAS REPLACED TWICE WITHIN THE LIFE OF THE CAR. ONCE IN 2002 AND 2005. THIS IS THE THIRD CLUSTER GONE BAD. *TR

MY CAR HAS HAD A LOW OIL PRESSURE LIGHT COMING ON FOR THE LAST THREE MONTHS, AND IT'S OCCURRING WITH MORE FREQUENCY. THE LIGHT ONLY COMES ON WHEN I TAKE MY CAR OUT OF GEAR AND PUT IT IN NEUTRAL WHILE SLOWING DOWN OR WHILE WAITING AT A STOP LIGHT. AFTER TAKING IT TO THREE DIFFERENT AUDI DEALERS, I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE ANSWERS AS TO THE PROBLEM. SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS LATER, MY LIGHT STILL COMES ON AND NOTHING HAS BEEN FIXED. EVEN MORE RECENTLY AND JUST TO TOP IT OFF, MY INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER HAS BLOWN. SO FAR, IT'S JUST THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE, FUEL GAUGE, LED DISPLAY, AND A WARNING LIGHT THAT TRIGGERS ONE OF MY HEADLIGHTS TO TURN OFF, BUT FROM WHAT I'VE READ ONLINE, THE SPEEDOMETER IS SOON TO FOLLOW. THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL IN THE UK FOR THIS, BUT AUDI USA WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH THEM ON THE PHONE AND THEY ONLY REFER ME TO THE LOCAL AUDI DEALER, WHICH IS JUST A VISCOUS CYCLE. I WILL BE VERY UPSET WHEN I'M DRIVING AND CAN'T TELL HOW FAST I'M GOING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS FAILING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000.
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER COMPONENT FAILURE. CENTER INFORMATION DISPLAY MISSING MANY PIXELS MAKING DISPLAYED TEXT AND IMAGES HARD TO DISTINGUISH. BECAUSE OF THIS FAILURE, IT CAN BE HARD TO DISTINGUISH THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CERTAIN INFORMATIONAL SYMBOLS SUCH AS A BRAKE PROBLEM OR A TAIL LIGHT OUT. I HAD A SYMBOL COME ON THE DISPLAY BUT I COULD NOT TELL IF IT DISPLAYED BECAUSE OF A PROBLEM WITH MY BRAKES OR TAIL LIGHTS AS A RESULT OF THE FAILURE OF THE CENTER DISPLAY. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSE A SAFETY ISSUE. RPM TACHOMETER STICKS ON COLD START AS WELL. *TR

THE CITATIONS STATED THAT SHE WAS DRIVING 45 MPH IN A 35 MPH ZONE AND 51 MPH IN A 35 MPH ZONE. THE CITATIONS WERE RECEIVED WITHIN TEN MINUTES OF ONE ANOTHER. THE CONTACT ALSO NOTICED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE INDICATOR DISPLAYED 1/4 TANK; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF FUEL A FEW MILES LATER. SHE RECEIVED A CLASS ACTION LETTER INDICATING THAT THE SPEEDOMETER AND FUEL GAUGE WERE NOT OPERATING NORMALLY AND COULD DISPLAY INACCURATE READINGS. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE CLASS ACTION SUIT DOES NOT APPLY TO THE VEHICLE SINCE IT IS BEYOND THE SEVEN YEAR PERIOD. FURTHERMORE, THE ANALOG GAUGE CLUSTER IS NOT ACCURATE, COOLANT GAUGE READS VERY HOT ERRONEOUSLY AT ALL TIMES (THOUGH ACTUALLY COOLANT TEMPS DETERMINED BY OTHER MEANS SHOW THAT VEHICLE IS AT NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURES). FUEL GAUGE RESPONDS ERRATICALLY, FAILS TO ACCURATELY REGISTER AMOUNT OF FUEL LEFT. TACHOMETER READINGS SEEM TO FLUXATE OCCASIONALLY IN ERR. *TR

THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WAS REPAIRED BY AUDI WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND IN THE SHOP ON 3 OTHER OCCASIONS FOR THE SAME THING. NOW THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND AUDI WILL NOT COVE THE PROBLEM. AUDI IS COVERING A LIKE PROBLEM OUT OF WARRANTY IN THE UK, BUT WILL NOT HONOR OUT OF WARRANTY PROBLEMS IN THE US. IT IS VERY WELL KNOW THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL GAUGE IN THIS VEHICLE WHICH IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
THE FUEL SENDING UNIT CAN OFTEN REPORT INCORRECT INFORMATION, CAUSING OWNERS TO OCCASIONALLY RUN OUT OF GAS WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE. FUEL GAUGE HAS A TENDENCY TO JUMP FROM FULL TO EMPTY WITHIN MINUTES. AUDI HAS ALREADY RECALLED THEIR A6 MODEL FOR THE SAME DEFECT, YET DOES NOT WANT TO RECALL THE TT EVEN THOUGH THEY SHARE THE SAME PART NUMBER FOR THE FUEL SENDING UNIT AND EXHIBIT THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
