HAVE HAD ISSUE WITH MY ONE OF MY 2 --- 2007 330I'S DASHBOARD LIGHT CAME ON WITH A MESSAGE "PASS RESTRAINT SYSTEM MALFUNCTION". A DETAILED MESSAGE SAYS "FAULT IN PASSENGER-RESTRAINT SYSTEM AFFECTING AIRBAG, BELT TENSIONER OR BELT-FORCE LIMITER TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID I NEED A NEW PASSENGER SEAT AIR BAG SENSOR WITH A REPLACEMENT COST OF OVER $1000,00. I RECENTLY LEARNED BMW HAS HAD A PROBLEM WITH THIS PART AND HAS RECALLED 2006-2007 CARS BUT ANY VEHICLE MADE AFTER SEPTEMBER 2006 IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. MINE WERE MANUFACTURED JAN 2007. I'VE BEEN INFORMED THAT MY VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PART AS THE RECALLED ONES AND BELIEVE THAT BMW SHOULD RECALL ALL THEIR VEHICLES WITH THIS SAME PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR PROBLEM. *TR
REAR ALLOY WHEEL IS CRACKED RESULTING IN LOSS OF PRESSURE. NO IMPACT OCCURRED TO CAUSE THIS CRACK. *TR
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
WHEN A PERSON IS SEATED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, THE SEAT BELT AND LARGE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHTS COME ON THE DASH AND STAY ON. ONCE THE PASSENGER EXITS THE CAR, THE LIGHTS GO OFF. I SEE THERE ARE RECALLS FOR THE 2006 328I BUT NOT FOR THE 2007. I AM CONCERNED THAT IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT, THE AIR BAG WILL NOT DEPLOY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 BMW 328I. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 74,000.
PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG SENSOR IS ON. THERE ARE OTHER 2007 WITH THE SAME SYMPTOMS BUT MY BMW DEALERSHIP IS TELLING ME THAT MY CAR WASN'T PART OF THE RECALL. *TT
PASSENGER TURN SIGNAL BULB WAS THOUGHT TO BE OUT. BROUGHT TO LOCAL BMW DEALER AND HAD THEM TELL ME I NEED A WHOLE HEADLIGHT SINCE THE TURN SIGNAL BURNED INSIDE. *TR
ON AUGUST 31ST, I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY IN THE NUMBER 2 LANE AT 70 MPH WHEN THE TEMPERATURE OVERHEAT LIGHT CAME ON AND I EXPERIENCED AN IMMEDIATE LOSS OF POWER AND WAS FORCED TO NAVIGATE THE VEHICLE ACROSS SEVERAL BUSY LANES TO THE SHOULDER. I ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO COOL DOWN, ADDED SOME WATER AND I ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO THE CLOSEST DEALER 5 MILES AWAY. UPON ENTERING THE FREEWAY AGAIN THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY EXPERIENCED THE SAME SYMPTOMS AND I WAS FORCED TO TOW THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD ON SEPTEMBER 3RD, THE ELECTRIC WATER PUMP HAD FAILED. THE BMW DEALERSHIP QUOTED $1332.00 TO REPAIR. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH IT IS APPARENT THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE BMW'S RIGHT AFTER THE VEHICLE FALLS OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY. THIS LOSS OF POWER IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AS THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING AND AT HIGH SPEED WITH HEAVY TRAFFIC. DUE TO THE NATURE OF THIS LOSS OF POWER AND THE COMMON OCCURRENCE I WOULD RECOMMEND A RECALL OR AN EXTENDED WARRANTY TO BE ISSUED FOR THIS KNOWN PROBLEM. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 BMW 328XI. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE HAVING AN OIL CHANGE PERFORMED AT A LOCAL MECHANIC, THE MECHANIC NOTICE THE HEAD BOLTS TO THE ENGINE WERE FRACTURED. THE MECHANIC ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE HEAD BOLTS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I GOT IN MY CAR AFTER DRIVING IT TO THE PARK & GOT A FAULT THAT SAID RESTRAINT SYSTEM MALFUNCTION. FAULT IN PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM AFFECTING AIRBAG, BELT TENSIONER OR BELT- FORCE LIMITER. I RESEARCHED THIS & FOUND THAT IT IS A PROBLEM WITH THE SENSOR IN THE PASSENGER SEAT MAT. I FOUND THAT THIS IS A RECALL ON MY CAR & YEAR, BUT WHEN I CALL, THEY SAY IT DOESN'T APPLY TO MY VIN. THIS HAS BEEN A HUGE PROBLEM WITH A TON OF OWNERS. I'VE ALSO READ THAT MOST OF THE PEOPLE CALL & COMPLAIN & THEY'LL END UP FIXING IT UNDER THE RECALL. BUT, I'M HAVING NO LUCK. I'D UNDERSTAND IF IT WAS JUST ME, BUT THEY'VE RECALLED IT ON THE SANE EXACT CAR & YEAR AS MINE & I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY MINE WOULDN'T FALL UNDER THIS RECALL! *TR
RESTRAINT SYSTEM MALFUNCTION! PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM - FAULT IN PASSENGER-RESTRAINT SYSTEM AFFECTING AIRBAG, BELT TENSIONER OR BELT-FORCE LIMITER. THIS STARTED HAPPENING 4-5 YEARS AGO WHEN PEOPLE WOULD SIT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. IT USED TO COME & GO. IT NEVER GOES OFF NOW.
THE DOOR LOCKING MECHANISM FAILED, MAKING ALL OF THE PASSENGER DOORS UNUSABLE, EVEN FROM THE INSIDE. IF THERE ARE PEOPLE IN THE VEHICLE, THEY CANNOT GET OUT EXCEPT THROUGH THE DRIVER'S DOOR, REPRESENTING A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD. IN THE CASE OF FIRE OR OTHER EMERGENCY, PASSENGERS IN MY CAR WOULD HAVE BEEN TRAPPED, UNABLE TO ESCAPE THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THERE IS NO MECHANICAL LOCK RELEASE ON THE INSIDE OF THE CAR. BMW HAS RELEASED A SERVICE BULLETIN TO REPLACE FUSE 57 WITH A 20 AMP FUSE INSTEAD OF A 15 AMP FUSE, BUT THIS DOES NOT FIX THE BASIC PROBLEM OF HAVING NO ESCAPE FROM THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. EVEN AFTER REPLACING THE FUSE WITH A 20A, IT BLEW AGAIN AND WOULD HAVE TRAPPED PASSENGERS AGAIN. I FEEL VERY UNSAFE TRANSPORTING MY FAMILY IN THIS VEHICLE KNOWING THAT THIS SAFETY HAZARD HAS PERSISTED SO LONG WITHOUT A RECALL. *TR
I WAS GOING ABOUT 50 TO 55 MPA WHEN MY TEMP LIGHT CAME ON, WITHIN A FEW SECONDS MY CAR LOST SPEED RAPIDLY AND COMPLETELY QUIT LOCKING EVERYTHING UP ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. I BOUGHT THE CAR AS A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED WITH 100,000 MILE WARRENTY.WHEN I CALLED CENTURY BMW DEALER IN HUNTSVILLE, AL WHERE I PURCHASED IT I WAS TOLD MY WARRANTY WENT OUT TWO MONTHS AGO ON 5/15 ACCORDING TO DATE OF SHIPMENT, A FEW DAY'S BEFORE I HAD RECEIVED A NOTICE THAT MY FACTORY WARNING MAY BE EXPIRING BASED ON TIME AND MILES IT STATED THAT AVAILABLE COVERAGE EXPIRES ON 8/23/2013 WHICH WAS 21 DAY'S AFTER DATE OF FAILURE. I WAS TOLD THAT WAS TIME I HAD TO BUY ANOTHER EXTENDED WARRANTY, THAT IS NOT WHAT THE STATEMENT SAID.WHEN TOWED TO SHOP IT WAS THE WATER PUMP AND THERMOSTAT AT A COST OF $1,212.11 PLUS TOWING CHARGE THAT I DO NOT HAVE A BILL ON YET WHICH SHOULD HAVE ALSO BEEN COVERED. I AM JUST LUCKY THAT NO ONE BEHIND ME SLAMMED INTO THE REAREND OF CAR OF LUCKILY NOT TURNING IN ONCOMING TRAFFIC SINCE THERE WAS NO WARNING EXCEPT SECONDS BEFORE IT STOPPED COLD. I HAD TOOK THE CAR IN BEFORE BECAUSE I SMELLED ANTI-FREEZE AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO PROBLEM, AND HAVE AT TIMES SINCE THEN SMELLED ANTI-FREEZE BUT SINCE I HAD IT CHECKED OUT JUST THOUGHT MAYBE IT WAS SOMETHING ABOUT THAT MODEL. I HAVE SINCE FOUND OUT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL, SO WHY WAS THEIR NO RECALL STATING THE DANGER OF THIS HAPPENING. AND WHY ARE THEY NOT HONORING THEIR WARRANTY. *TR
I OWN A 2007 328I ,RECENTLY MY CAR HAS BEEN GIVING ME AN ERROR MESSAGE DUE TO THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSOR. WHENEVER, A PASSENGER SITS IN THE FRONT IT, A LIGHT TURNS ON LETTING ME KNOW THAT THE AIRBAG IS OFF. THIS MEANS THAT IN CASE OF A SERIOUS CAR ACCIDENT THE AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY AND THE PASSENGER'S LIFE WILL BE AT RISK. AFTER THE ERROR MESSAGE I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THAT THE ISSUE IS VERY COMMON IN THE 3-SERIES. BMW ACTUALLY DID A VOLUNTARY RECALL BUT IT ONLY INVOLVED 2006 3-SERIES. HOWEVER, I AM EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE THAT THE RECALL WAS ABOUT. I TOOK MY CAR TO BMW PACIFIC IN GLENDALE AND INFORMED ME THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO HELP ME SINCE MY CAR WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. HERE IS THE RECALL THAT BMW ANNOUNCED: "STATEMENT ON VOLUNTARY RECALL INVOLVING FRONT PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR MAT ON U.S.A. MODEL BMWS - AUGUST 13, 2008 TODAY, BMW ANNOUNCED A VOLUNTARY RECALL REGARDING THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG SEAT SENSOR MAT INVOLVING APPROXIMATELY 200,000 MODEL YEAR 2004-06 VEHICLES. AFFECTED ARE CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2006 3-SERIES, MODEL YEAR 2004-06 5-SERIES, AND MODEL YEAR 2004-06 X3 VEHICLES, DEPENDING UPON SEAT TYPE. BMW HAS FOUND THAT THE SENSOR MAT MAY BECOME DAMAGED DURING VEHICLE USAGE DEPENDING UPON THE MANNER AND FREQUENCY OF THE FRONT PASSENGER'S ENTRY AND EXIT. WHEN PARKED LISTENING TO MUSIC, MY BROTHER PLUGGED IN THE USB ADAPTER AND IT ELECTROCUTED HIM EVER SINCE HE'S SCARED TO BE IN THE VEHICLE. WELL RIGHT AFTER THE INCIDENT THE CIGAR IGNITERS TO PLUG IN THE ADAPTERS WOULDN'T WORK ANYMORE. I HAD JUST GOT THIS CAR FROM A DEALER AS A TRADE IN 3 MONTHS AGO AND I NOTICED REALLY STRONG SMELLS OF GAS FROM THE BACK SEAT AND MY SIBLINGS SIT BACK THERE AND THAT REALLY CONCERNS ME. ALONG WITH THE SMELL OF GAS, MY COOLANT RESERVOIR STARTING SPILLING OUT BROWNISH FLUID LIKE IF A GASKET WAS BLOWN AND OIL GOT INTO THE COOLANT ! I AM VERY IRRITATED I'M BEING CHARGED THOUSANDS THAT I DON'T HAVE AND ONLY HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR A FEW MONTHS. MY WARRANTY WOULD NOT FIX ANY DAMAGES, AND DEALERSHIP IS NOT HELPING ME OUT. I NEED TO GO TO WORK AND SCHOOL AND I HAVE NO TRANSPORTATION AT THE MOMENT.
MY CAR KEYS CANNOT UNLOCK ALL THE DOORS. I HAD TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE REMOTE AND USE THE KEY TO MANUALLY OPEN THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR. THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR AND BOTH DOORS AT THE REAR PASSENGER SEATS CANNOT BE OPENED. THERE IS NO WAY THE DOORS CAN BE OPENED FROM THE INSIDE ONCE IT IS LOCKED. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE ESPECIALLY IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY FROM A CAR FIRE, PEOPLE IN THE CAR (PASSENGER SIDE CANNOT UNLOCK THE DOOR TO GET OUT AND THE DOORS CANNOT BE OPENED FROM THE OUTSIDE. I SEE THIS A POTENTIAL LIABILITY AND I AM SURPRISED WHY NO AUTHORITIES HAVE STEPPED UP AND INITIATE AN INVESTIGATION. DOES THAT MEAN WHEN ONLY THERE IS A FATAL INCIDENT THAT PEOPLE WILL START INVESTIGATION? I BROUGHT MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEIR APPOINTMENT TIME IS FULLY BOOKED TILL NEXT WEEK. THEY DON'T SEEM TO EVEN THINK THIS COULD RESULT IN POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS AND SAFETY ISSUE. IF THIS WEBSITE IS DEDICATED TO WHAT IS PROFESS TO DO, THEN I HOPE TO SEE ACTION. DRIVING NORMALLY, ABOUT TO MAKE A TURN ONTO A STREET MY POWER STEERING FAILS AND I GET A LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD ABOUT BATTERY CHARGING MALFUNCTION. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION IT TURNS OUT MY ACCESSORY BELT THAT DRIVES THE AC COMPRESSOR, POWER STEERING PUMP AND ALTERNATOR WAS COMPLETELY SHREDDED AND NOT ON THE PULLEYS. I HAVE DAMAGE TO MULTIPLE PULLEYS IN MY CAR. MY POWER STEERING PULLEY IS MISSING BIG CHUNKS BECAUSE OF IMPACT WITH THE SUB-FRAME. THIS IS A KNOWN SERVICE BULLETIN ( SIB 11 09 08 ) THE POWER STEERING PULLEY IMPACTS THE SUB-FRAME BECAUSE OF MOTOR MOVEMENT WHEN HITTING BUMPS ETC.. THIS CAUSED MY BELT TO BE RIPPED INTO SHREDS AND BREAK OFF BIG CHUNKS OF MY POWER STEERING PULLEY. *TR
MY WIFE WAS ATTEMPTING TO EXIT CAR WHEN SHE NOTICED THAT SHE WAS NOT ABLE TO OPEN ANY OF CAR DOORS - ALL THE LOCKS WOULD NOT OPERATE ! ALSO, THE DOOR HANDLES WOULD NOT OPEN THE DOORS FROM THE INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THIS ISSUE IS SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE LOOKED AT ASAP. STEERING WHEEL LOCK DISPLAYED ON CAR DASH BOARD. IT WILL NOT START AND CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. I HAVE FOUND SEVERAL COMPLAINTS OF THIS SAME ISSUE ONLINE. BMW NEEDS TO PAY FOR THIS ISSUE I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER BMW THE REST OF MY LIFE. PLEASE CHECK INTO THIS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 BMW 328XI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE STARTING THE VEHICLE THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED, LOCKING ALL OF THE WINDOWS AND DOORS. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START ONCE THE SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED. THE CONTACT HAD TO WAIT 48 HOURS IN ORDER TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT DID NOT TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
ARRIVED DESTINATION, EXITED CAR, LOCKED DOORS VIA KEY FOB. RETURNED FOUR HOURS LATER, UNABLE TO UNLOCK DOORS. LIGHTS WENT ON, SO I KNEW KEY FOB WAS WORKING. HAD TO USE VALET KEY TO OPEN DRIVER'S DOOR, NO LOCKS ON OTHER DOORS. ONCE IN CAR TRIED TO USE DOOR OPEN BUTTON ON DASH, WOULD NOT WORK, TRIED TO UNLOCK DOOR FROM INSIDE, COULD NOT UNLOCK ANY OF THE DOORS. MY WIFE HAD TO CRAWL THROUGH OPEN WINDOW ON PASSENGER SIDE, AND MY TWO GUESTS HAD TO GO THROUGH WINDOWS TO SIT IN BACK SEAT. ONCE REACHING OUR NEXT DESTINATION ATTEMPTED TO USED THE DOOR RELEASE AGAIN, NOTHING, THEN TRIED THE DOOR HANDLES (FRONT AND BACK) WOULD NOT WORK, BACK SEAT PASSENGERS HAD TO EXIT THROUGH WINDOWS, AND ONCE WE REACHED HOME MY WIFE HAD TO SLIDE OVER CONSOLE GO OUT THE DRIVERS DOOR, THE ONLY DOOR THAT COULD BE OPENED FROM THE INSIDE. FYI BOTH MY WIFE AND I ARE SENIOR CITIZENS, AND NOT VERY HAPPY WITH THIS CURRENT EVENT. AS A RESULT ALL PASSENGERS WERE TRAPPED INSIDE CAR AS ALL DOOR LOCKS, EXCEPT DRIVERS FAIL AND NO WAY TO OPEN CAR, THIS COULD HAVE RESULT INTO A SERIOUS PROBLEM IF WE WERE IN AN ACCIDENT OF FIRE WITH 3 OF THE 4 DOORS NOT BEING ABLE TO OPEN FROM THE INSIDE. BROUGHT TO BMW DEALER NEXT DAY, THEY WANTED BETWEEN $800 AND $1,000. TO REPAIR DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS, UNABLE TO PAY THIS NOW, CAR IS SITTING HOME IN GARAGE. BMW NEVER OFFERED TO PAY THIS UNDER THE CURRENT CONDITIONS OF SO MANY COMPLAINTS, THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 BMW 335I WITH 25K MILES. AS I WAS DRIVING GETTING ON THE HIGHWAY MY CAR HAS LOST POWER ENGINE WAS CUT OFF. I WAS ON A LIMB MODE ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED BY AN 18 WHEEL TRACTOR. VEHICLE VIN# KP35910 WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL DESPITE MEETING THE QUALIFICATION CRITERIA FOR THIS RECALL. PARTICULARLY BMW OF SEATTLE STATED THE FOLLOWING: "PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANCY DETECTOR CONNECTED BATTERY CHARGER AND PERFORMED SYSTEM TEST FOUND SENSOR FAULTY. SEAT OCCUPANCY SENSOR FAULTY. EVIDENCE REPORT OF THE ISSUE DIAGNOSTIC IS ATTACHED TO THIS EMAIL COMMUNICATION. FAILED RESTRAINT SYSTEM IN THE VEHICLE VIN# KP35910 INADVERTENTLY DEACTIVATED THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG THAT NOW IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH INCREASES THE RISK OF PERSONAL INJURY. MANUFACTURER SHOULD TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY IN REMEDYING THIS MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT THAT POSE GREAT SAFETY RISK TO VEHICLES OCCUPANTS. BECAUSE VEHICLE VIN# KP35910 MEETS THE RECALL CRITERIA OF OTHER VEHICLES IN THE RECALL CATEGORY AND IT EXHIBITS EXACTLY THE SAME DEFECTS WITH THE PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM THAT IS SUBJECT OF THE RECALL, BMW NORTHWEST MUST INCLUDE VIN# KP35910 INTO RECALL AND REPAIR THE DEFECTIVE SEAT OCCUPANCY SENSOR.
MY 2007 328XI TRANSFER CASE ON THE DRIVE TRAIN FAILED AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH ON SUNDAY 6/16/2013. THIS CAUSED AN IMMEDIATELY LOSS OF ALL WHEEL DRIVE AND ABS IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. WITH SOME SIMPLE RESEARCH ONLINE IT IS EVIDENT THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AMONGST SIMILAR MODELS AND YEAR GROUPS. THE X3 AND X5 ARE NOTORIOUS FOR THE ISSUE. A WHOLE AFTERMARKET INDUSTRY AND DEVELOPED ON REPLACING THE GEARS WITH NEWER, HIGH HEAT AND STRESS GEARS SO THIS ISSUE DOESN'T HAPPEN AND THERE ARE RETAILERS WHO MARKET TO PEOPLE WITH THESE VEHICLES TO REPLACE THEM. THE FACT THAT A SECONDARY MARKET HAS APPEARED AND IT HAS NOT BEEN ACKNOWLEDGED AS A SERIOUS ISSUE IS CONFUSING. THE INTERIOR OF THE TRANSFER CASE SHOWS THE GEARS ARE MADE FROM PLASTIC WHICH DEGRADE OVERTIME AND EVENTUALLY CAUSE ALL WHEEL DRIVE TO FAIL TO ENGAGE OR TO DISENGAGE AND CAUSING SEVERE BRAKE AND HANDLING ISSUES. I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO MAINTAIN CONTROL BUT OTHERS MAY NOT BE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING HOME ON THE HIGHWAY DURING A RAINSTORM WHEN THE 4X4, BRAKES WARNING CAME ON. THE HANDLING IMMEDIATELY WAS AFFECTED. I DIDN'T FEEL THE TRACTION I WAS USED TO AND BRAKING BECAME DANGEROUS. I WANTED TO PULL OVER BUT THE BRAKES MADE THE CAR STOP TOO ABRUPTLY, CAUSING ME TO SKID ON THE WET ROAD. HAD THE HIGHWAY BEEN BUSIER I'M SURE I WOULD'VE BEEN IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I CONSIDER MYSELF VERY LUCKY. I TOOK MY CAR TO A LOCAL MECHANIC. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE TRANSFER CASE ACTUATOR GEAR. IT'S PLASTIC AND THE INTENSE HEAT CAUSES IT TO FAIL. I WAS TOLD THIS PROBLEM IS VERY COMMON....SO MUCH THAT THE REPLACEMENTS ARE MADE OF A DIFFERENT COMPOSITE AND MORE HEAT RESISTANT. MY QUESTION IS WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR A GEAR THAT IS RECOGNIZED AS FAULTY. IF THE REPLACEMENTS ARE BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL THEN OBVIOUSLY BMW RECOGNIZES THAT TOO. DOORS WILL NOT UNLOCK USING THE KEY FOB OR CENTRAL LOCKING BUTTON. LOCKED DOORS WILL NOT OPEN FROM INTERIOR OF VEHICLE, NO WAY TO UNLOCK THE REAR DOORS AND FRONT PASSENGER DOOR WHEN THEY ARE LOCKED. ONLY WAY TO EXIT VEHICLE IS THROUGH DRIVER'S DOOR IF MANUALLY UNLOCKED WITH KEY. PASSENGER DOORS WILL NOT OPEN AND GAS DOOR WILL NOT OPEN. *TR
I DROVE TO THE GAS STATION LEFT CAR ALONE FOR NO MORE THAN 5 MINUTES. AND WHEN I COME BACK I TRY TO START THE CAR AND TRIES TO START BUT DOESN'T HAVE THE POWER TOO, THEN I GET A JUMP START AND DRIVE HOME AND THE NEXT DAY SAME THINGS HAPPEN. BATTERY WAS CHANGED OUT BY SHOP JUST ABOUT A WEEK AGO. *TR
MY CAR HAD ALL 6 FUEL INJECTORS REPLACED AT 35,XXX MILES BACK IN FEB OF 2010. NOW AT 69,285 MILES ALL SIX HAVE FAILED AGAIN. THE CAR WENT INTO LIMP MODE CAUSING SOMEONE TO REAR END ME ON AN ON RAMP. FAILING INJECTORS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THIS ENGINE. THESE INJECTORS HAVE A 120,000 MILE SERVICE INTERVAL BUT THEY FAILED FOR ME AT NEARLY EXACTLY 35,000 TWICE. HOPEFULLY ENOUGH PEOPLE WILL MAKE THIS AN ISSUE TO HAVE THIS BECOME A RECALL. *TR
THE AIR BAG AND SEAT BELT LIGHTS HAVE BEEN ON FOR ABOUT A YEAR NOW. THERE IS A SAFETY RECALL LISTING MY VEHICLE MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR. I HAVE CONTACTED BMWUSA AND A LOCAL BMW DEALERSHIP WITH BOTH CLAIMING MY VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. HOWEVER, MY VEHICLE MAKE, MODEL, YEAR AND VEHICLE PRODUCTION DATE IS SPECIFICALLY LISTED IN THE RECALL NOTICE LISTED ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE. STEERING WHEEL LOCKED WILE DRIVING - VERY SIMILAR TO NHTSA CASE # 10194169. MY DAUGHTER WAS TURNING RIGHT INTO A PARKING LOT WHEN SHE NOTICED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL CAME TO A HARD STOP. WHEN SHE REALIZED THAT SHE WOULD NOT MAKE THE TURN, SHE TRIED TO TURN IT BACK TO THE LEFT BUT IT IMMEDIATELY LOCKED HARD IN PLACE. SHE PULLED FORWARD IN THE DIRECTION OF TRAVEL AND WAS ABLE TO STOP IN THE GRASS ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER SHE STOPPED SHE NOTICED THAT THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" WARNING MESSAGE WAS ILLUMINATED. SHE THEN TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AND EVERYTHING WORKED NORMALLY AND SHE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR ABOUT A MILE TO THE HOUSE. WE HAD IT TOWED TO THE LOCAL BMW DEALER - THE DEALER KEPT THE CAR FOR 3 DAYS WHERE THEY REVIEWED FAULT CODES (FOUND NONE), TRIED TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM (COULD NOT DUPLICATE), AND TOOK THE STEERING COLUMN APART (BUT FOUND NO PROBLEM). THE DEALER DID IMPLEMENT NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 13V044000, BUT SAID THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF A PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. NEEDLESS TO SAY I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT MY DAUGHTER DRIVING THIS VEHICLE, BUT HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE AT THE TIME. CAN THE NHTSA PROVIDE ANY FURTHER ASSISTANCE WITH THIS SITUATION. *TR
MY VEHICLE DISPLAYED A YELLOW WARNING THAT THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE WAS HIGH, AND THAT THE CAR NEEDED TO BE DRIVEN AT MODERATE SPEEDS BECAUSE THE ENGINE WAS CLOSE TO OVERHEATING. I DECREASED MY SPEED FROM 30MPH TO 20 MPH, AND ABOUT 30 SECONDS AFTER DRIVING THE CAR AT 25MPH A RED WARNING LIGHT CAME ON THAT SAID MY ENGINE WAS TOO HOT, AND THE CAR STALLED ON ME. THE FIRST OCCURRENCE, THE VEHICLE WAS GOING 15MPH & THE ENGINE FAILED WHILE TURNING INTO A BLOCK (RESIDENTIAL AREA), AFTER IDLING ROUGH AND HIGH PITCH NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE 2ND OCCURRENCE, THE ENGINE FAILED AFTER EXITING THE FREEWAY. THAT TIME, THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED ON A HILL WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE 3RD TIME, THE VEHICLE WAS AT A STOP WHEN THE ENGINE FAILED. ONCE THE FAILURE OCCURRED, THE VEHICLE WAS PLACE IN PARK MODE & RE-STARTED. THE ENGINE STARTED AGAIN & THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN HOME. NOTE: SINCE JANUARY 2012, THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE BMW SERVICE DEPARTMENT SEVERAL TIMES FOR IDLING ROUGH AND HIGH PITCH NOISE FROM ENGINE COMPLAINTS. SHIELDING ON DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS HAS FRAYED AND IS PEELING. ADDRESSED THIS MATTER WITH DEALERSHIP WHO IN TURN REFERRED ME TO REGIONAL BRAND MANAGER. BRAND MANAGER INDICATED THAT THE WIRE JUST DOESN'T FRAY AND I MUST HAVE MODIFIED MY VEHICLE TO CAUSE THE PROBLEM. MY VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY STOCK EXCEPT FOR A K&N FILTER HAS HAD ALL SERVICES PERFORMED AT THE DEALER UNTIL ABOUT A 10 MONTHS WHEN THE FACTORY EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED. I STILL TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR MAJOR SERVICES BUT PERFORM OIL CHANGES AND SPARK PLUG CHANGES ON MY OWN. BRAND MANAGER OFFERED TO DISCOUNT A NEW SET OF HEADLIGHTS BY 20% TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM BUT AT OVER $1K FOR EACH HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY IT SEEMS UNREASONABLE FOR A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. I'M ADDRESSING THIS PROBLEM NOW AS MY DRL BULBS (H8'S) HAVE BLOWN ON EACH SIDE TWICE OVER THE PAST FOUR MONTHS AND THE SHIELDING DRL HARNESS HAS COMPLETELY PEELED AWAY. A POTENTIAL FIRED HAZARD AS BOTH NEGATIVE AND POSITIVE LEADS ARE EXPOSED. HAVING THE HID ADAPTIVE HEADLIGHTS IN SUCH CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE EXPOSED HARNESS SEEMS LIKE A POTENTIAL FOR A SHORT WHICH MAY RESULT IN A FIRE.
AT APPROXIMATELY 4:15 PM ON 4/18/13 I WAS DRIVING ON A BUSY ROADWAY AT APPROX 35MPH IN MY 2007 BMW 328XI COUPE, 65540 MILES. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE VEHICLES INDICATOR LIGHT FLASHED ORANGE FOR COOLANT TEMPERATURE WARNING. WITHIN 5 SEC THE INDICATOR FLASHED RED AND THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN AS I PROCEEDED THROUGH AN INTERSECTION. THERE WAS NO ACCELERATION AND I WAS LEFT TO COAST OUT OF THE INTERSECTION. LUCKILY THE INTERSECTION WAS SLIGHTLY DOWN HILL SO I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE CURB WITHOUT BEING T-BONED. APPARENTLY THIS ENGINE SHUT DOWN IS A DESIGNED FEATURE IN THIS MODEL BMW (2007 328XI) TO SAVE THE ENGINE IN THE CASE OF OVERHEATING. WHILE THIS FEATURE MEANS WELL IT IS AN EXTREME SAFETY ISSUE AS OTHER BMW CUSTOMERS HAVE REPORTED SIMILAR EVENTS WHILE TRAVELING ON INTERSTATES AND SPEEDS UP TO 80MPH (SEE BIMMERFORUMS AND ABOUTAUTOMOBILE). THIS TYPE OF EVENT IN CERTAIN SITUATIONS COULD ABSOLUTELY LEAD TO LOSS OF PROPERTY AND/OR LIFE. THE AIR TEMP WAS APPROX 85F AND I HAD BEEN DRIVING THE CAR FOR MORE THAN A 30MIN IN PRE-RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC BEFORE THE EVENT. AT THE TIME,TRAFFIC WAS NOT STOP AND GO AND I WAS MOVING AT A FAIRLY CONSISTENT 30MPH. THERE WAS LESS THAN 10-15 SEC BETWEEN THE FIRST COOLANT WARNING FLASHING ORANGE, PROCEEDING TO RED, AND ENGINE SHUT DOWN. THESE WERE THE ONLY INDICATIVE WARNINGS OF A PROBLEM. THE OIL TEMPERATURE WAS AROUND 230F. AFTER LETTING THE CAR COOL FOR SEVERAL HOURS I CHECKED THE COOLANT WHICH WAS IN THE NORMAL RANGE. I WAS THEN ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR THE REMAINING 1.5 MILES TO MY HOME. AT HOME, I WAS ABLE TO REPLICATE THIS OVERHEATING SHUT DOWN EVENT BY TURNING THE AC ON AND REVVING THE ENGINE FROM 2000 TO 3000 RPM AT A STANDSTILL. AFTER ABOUT 5MIN, ONCE AGAIN THE INDICATOR PANEL FLASHED ORANGE, 5 SECONDS LATER RED, LEADING TO ENGINE SHUT DOWN ALMOST IMMEDIATELY. THIS YET AGAIN REPLICATED THE SHORT 10 SEC WARNING BEFORE COMPLETE ENGINE SHUT DOWN. *TR
CAR WENT INTO LIMP MODE DUE TO EXCESSIVE ENGINE TEMPERATURE DETECTED. CAUSE OF ENGINE OVERHEATING WAS A FAULTY ELECTRIC WATER PUMP. DEALER REPLACED THE WATER PUMP AND THERMOSTAT. *TR

THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
I JUST DISCOVERED THAT THE LEFT REAR RIM ON MY 2007 BMW 328 CONVERTIBLE IS CRACKED. MY CAR HAS LESS THAN 38K MILES ON IT. THE TIRES ARE 225/45 17' RUN-FLATS. I HAD FOUR NEW TIRES PUT ON ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO. I GOT THE LOW TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT ABOUT A WEEK AGO WHEN I STARTED THE CAR. I CHECKED, DIDN'T NOTICE ANYTHING, AND RESET THE TPM SUCCESSFULLY. SINCE IT WAS A COLD MORNING, I FIGURED THE SENSOR WAS JUST REACTING TO PRESSURE CHANGE DUE TO THE TEMPERATURE CHANGE. A FEW DAYS LATER, IT CAME AGAIN. I DECIDED TO CHECK, AND FOUND THE PRESSURE WAS DOWN TO ABOUT 25 PSI. I FILLED THE TIRE TO RECOMMENDED PSI. I DROVE ABOUT 260 MILES ON SUNDAY, MOSTLY FREEWAY SPEEDS. WHEN I WAS ABOUT 30 MILES FROM HOME, THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. AT THAT TIME I WAS ON A FREEWAY, GOING ABOUT 70 MPH. ONCE I GOT TO HOME, I FILLED THE TIRE (AGAIN IT WAS ABOUT 25 PSI), AND THE WARNING STOPPED. YESTERDAY THE LIGHT CAME ON, AND I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL TIRE SHOP. THEY DIDN'T FIND A PUNCTURE; BUT REMOUNTED IT AND FILLED IT. I DROVE HOME, AND A FEW HOURS LATER, THE WARNING CAME ON AGAIN. THIS MORNING, I TOOK IT BACK TO THE SHOP, AND THEY AGAIN REMOVED THE TIRE. THIS TIME THEY DID A VERY CLOSE INSPECTION AND FOUND THE CRACK IN THE RIM. THEY ARE ORDERING ME A REPLACEMENT RIM. FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN ON THE INTERNET, THERE SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE BMW RIMS AND RUN-FLAT TIRES. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE, IF THE RIM WOULD HAVE A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE WHILE THE CAR WAS TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THIS COULD BE DEADLY. *TR
REAR PASSENGER WHEEL, CRACKED AGAIN, LESS THAN A YEAR BEFORE I HAD TO PURCHASE A NEW WHEEL DUE TO CRACKS CAUSING IT TO SHIMMY. A YEAR LATER BMW TELLS ME THE SAME WHEEL IS CRACKED AGAIN CAUSING THE CAR TO SHIMMY. WHEELS COST $500. + PER WHEEL. AS A RESULT I REPLACED ALL THE WHEELS WITH A SET OF NEW AMERICAN RACING WHEELS, AND SHIMMY HAS GONE. THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THESE WHEELS, I HAVE A FOUR DOOR SEDAN, NOT SPORTS PACKAGE, JUST STANDARD WHEEL. *TR

WHILE SITTING STILL AT THE FIRST INCIDENT THE CAR STALLED FOR NO REASON. OVER THE NEXT TWO WEEKS THE CAR STARTED TO RUN VERY ROUGH AND THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON. YOU COULD TURN IT OFF AND RESTART AND IT WOULD BE FINE FOR A LITTLE WHILE, NOW MY ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON ALL THE TIME AND MY #3 INJECTOR NEEDS REPLACED. BMW DID RECALL THE INJECTORS FOR THE 2008 MODELS, BUT NOT MY 2007, THE COST IS MY RESPONSIBILITY AND MANY OTHER 2007 OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I DO.HAVE A BMW EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR MY FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR, NOT A RECALL, BUT THEY GO BAD SEVERAL TIMES A YEAR. A RECALL SHOULD BE EXTENDED FOR THE 2007 INJECTORS. *TR
UPON TRYING TO START CAR, CONTROL MESSAGE CAME ON SAID STEERING WHEEL LOCKED, ENGINE WILL NOT START. TURN WHEEL TO START ENGINE. THIS DID NOT WORK, MANY TRIES!. CAR IS NOT RUNNING. IN CHECKING THE INTERNET, FOR A SOLUTION, I FIND MANY WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT FOR THE SAME MODEL & EVEN YEAR BMW. SOMETHING SOUNDS FISHY. THERE WAS JUST A RECALL ON THE 3 SERIES FOR SOME SHORT INVOLVING FUSE BOX TO BACK OF CAR WRITTEN UP IN MY LOCAL NEWSPAPER. BMW SAID MY CAR IS NOT INVOLVED. COULD THESE TWO ISSUES BE RELATED? I HAVE MAINTAINED MY CAR PER RECOMMENDED SCHEDULE! BMW OF NORTH AMERICA SAID THE WHEEL LOCK PROBLEM IS NOT WARRANTEED NOR IS IT A RECALL ISSUE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 BMW 328XI. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND UNOCCUPIED, IT UNEXPECTEDLY IGNITED INTO FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY. THE FIRE ORIGINATED IN BETWEEN THE FRONT WINDSHIELD AND UPPER HOOD AREA NEAR THE AIR BAG HOUSING. THE FIRE WAS DEEMED AS ELECTRICAL. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED AND TOWED TO A SAVAGE FACILITY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 133,000.

THE MECHANISM TO UNLOCK THE DOOR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF MY BMW 335I FAILED, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN THE DOOR. PREVIOUSLY, THE PASSENGER'S SIDE DOOR LOCK FAILED AND WAS REPORTED TO NHTSA (ODI #: 10378269). BMW AGREED TO REPLACE THE PASSENGER'S SIDE DOOR LOCK (THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY), BUT AT THE TIME DID NOT REPLACE THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR LOCK WHICH HAS NOW FAILED TOO. BEING TRAPPED IN THE CAR DUE TO A FAILED DOOR LOCK MECHANISM IS AN INCONVENIENCE AT BEST AND A MAJOR HAZARD AT WORST. *TR
