BMW E90 3 SERIES SEDAN, AFTER THE DOOR LOCK FUSES BLOW THERE IS NO WAY TO EXIT THE VEHICLE EXCEPT BY A WINDOW. IS A FAILING IN ALL THESE MODELS AND HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH BAD LATCHES THAT ARE BEING REPLACED AS THEY FAIL UNDER WARRANTY, THERE SHOULD BE A BACKUP SYSTEM FOR EXITING THE VEHICLE IF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILS. *TR
BMW 3 SERIES AND ALSO OTHER SERIES WITH RUN FLAT TIRES HAVE AN ISSUE THAT WITH AN AVERAGE BUMP LIKE A MANHOLE COVER THE WHEEL WILL CRACK. I HAVE REPLACED 3 SO FAR ON MY 2007 335I AT MY COST. AFTER RESEARCH I HAVE SEEN THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE AND THAT EVERYONE HAS HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE WITH BMW DENYING IT WAS THE WHEEL. THE CAR HAS 45,000+/- MILES ON IT. WHEN BROUGHT IN DUE TO RAPID AIR LOSS BMW STATES IT WAS THE DRIVING CONDITIONS NOT THEIR WHEEL. I DRIVE ON MOSTLY HIGHWAY ROADS AND SECONDARY ROADS TO MY HOUSE. I HAVE NEVER HIT ANY KIND OF POTHOLE OR CURB THAT WOULD CAUSE AN ALLOY RIM TO BE CRACKED. IN ALL 3 INSTANCES, THE CRACK IS EXACTLY THE SAME AND THE REPLACEMENT FOR THIS DAMAGE IS IN EXCESS OF $500 FOR THE RIM. IN TWO OF THE INSTANCES, I HAD TO GET A NEW RUN FLAT TIRE AS WELL AT A COST OF $400 A PIECE. ALL THREE OF THESE PROBLEMS HAVE OCCURRED OVER THE PAST 5 MONTHS!! *TR
DOOR ACTUATORS ON MY 2007 BMW 328I FAILED. IT BEGAN WITH JUST THE FRONT TWO DOORS AND THEN THE REAR DOORS. A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR, MOSTLY LABOR EXPENSE. I AM THANKFUL THAT THIS DID NOT OCCUR WHEN AWAY FROM HOME AS LOCKING AND UNLOCKING THE DOORS WAS NOT POSSIBLE. ALSO, IF SOMEONE HAD BEEN IN THE BACKSEAT THEY MAY NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET OUT. *TR
HAVE YOU INVESTIGATED WHY BMW HAS NOT OFFERED A FIX FOR TRAPPING THEIR CUSTOMERS IN THE CAR WHEN A DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR FAILS AND BLOWS A FUSE? THIS IS A COMMON EVENT ON THE 2007 328 MODEL. WHAT HAPPENS IS A POWER DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR FAILS DURING THE UNLOCK PROCESS AND THE INCREASE IN AMPERAGE CAUSES 2 FUSES TO BLOW. THIS PREVENTS ANY OF THE CAR'S DOOR LOCKS FROM OPENING, THEREBY TRAPPING OCCUPANTS IN THE VEHICLE. THERE IS NO WAY TO UNLOCK THE DOORS FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE. OCCUPANTS MUST EITHER CLIMB OUT OF A WINDOW OR HAVE SOMEONE UNLOCK THE CAR USING A MECHANICAL KEY FROM OUTSIDE OF THE CAR. PLEASE ADVISE. *TR
THE CAR STARTED NORMALLY BUT WITHIN A MILE IT BEGAN TO SHUDDER ABOVE ~2.5K RPM. I GOT TO MY DESTINATION WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENCE. LATER THAT DAY SOON AFTER LEAVING THE PARKING LOT THE CAR DIED AT A STOP SIGN. SES AND OTHER LIGHTS CAME ON. I STARTED IT UP AND IT IMMEDIATELY DIED AGAIN. THIS HAPPENED REPEATEDLY UNTIL I FOUND THAT IF I GAVE IT THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF GAS AND KEPT IT UNDER A CERTAIN RPM I COULD OPERATE WITH VERY LIMITED POWER. THAT COMBINED WITH THE FACT IT WAS LARGELY DOWNHILL AND NOT VERY FAR TO MY HOUSE ALLOWED ME TO GET HOME SAFELY. I DROVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY (KEEPING IT WELL UNDER 2.5K RPM TO DO SO) AND THEY REPLACED THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. *TR
HI, I PURCHASED A 2007 CERTIFIED PRE OWNED BMW 335I FROM WEATHERFORD BMW IN BERKELEY, CA JUST ONE WEEK AGO. SINCE THE PURCHASE, I HAVE HAD AN ENGINE MALFUNCTION, LOSS OF POWER LIGHT COME UP OVER 10 TIMES. IT ALWAYS COMES UP WHEN I ACCELERATE ON THE HIGHWAY. IT LEADS TO A DRASTIC REDUCTION IN POWER, VIBRATION OF THE CAR, AND CAUSES ME TO GO SIGNIFICANTLY BELOW THE SPEED LIMIT. I AM AFRAID THE CAR IS GOING TO STALL ON ME AND THAT SUDDENLY DROPPING THE SPEED WILL RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. IT IS PARTICULARLY RIDICULOUS THAT THIS WAS LABELED A "CERTIFIED" CAR WHEN IT STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS THE VERY NEXT DAY. I TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP TO GET IT REPAIRED AND THEY CLAIM THE HIGH-PRESSURE FUEL PUMP NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. PRIOR TO TAKING IT IN, I NOTICED TURNING THE CAR OFF AND THEN ON SEEMED TO "RESET" IT AND MAKE THE LIGHT GO AWAY. STILL NO PEACE OF MIND WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. I AM AWAITING REPAIR OF THE VEHICLE TO SEE IF THE ISSUE HAS BEEN FIXED, BUT READING OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET HAS LEFT ME PESSIMISTIC THAT ANYTHING IS GOING TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS. *TR
HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILING ON BMW 335I. *TR
OWNER OF A 2007 BMW 335I COUPE. NOTICED A PROBLEM WITH ROUGH IDLES AND LONG CRANKS AT START-UP. AS TIME WENT BY, THE LONG CRANKS AND ROUGH IDLES BECAME MORE FREQUENT. WHILE DRIVING ONTO THE FREEWAY VIA FREEWAY ON RAMP, FUEL PUMP FAILED WHILE I WAS MERGING AND ENGINE WAS CUT TO HALF POWER "LIMP-MODE." CAR HAD SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF POWER AND I WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED BY A SEMI THAT WAS DRIVING IN THE SLOW LANE. *TR
THE DOOR LOCKS SUDDENLY STOP WORKING. THEY LOCK AND STAY LOCKED. YOU CANNOT OPEN THEM FROM THE INSIDE, EXCEPT THE DRIVER'S DOOR. ALL THREE REMAINING DOORS DO NOT OPEN! THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN BMW 3-SERIES E90S. *TR
THE BMW 335I HAS PROBLEM WITH THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURES WHICH WAS ACKNOWLEDGED BY BMW N/A WITH A EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THIS PART FOR 10 YEARS OR 120K MILES. MY BMW 335I HAS HAD 3 FUEL PUMP FAILURES IN 24,000 MILES, EACH TIME THE CAR HAS COMPLETELY STALLED LEAVING ME STRANDED IN VERY DANGEROUS SCENARIOS. THE MOST RECENT TIME I WAS STRANDED ON A BUSY ROAD WITH NO SHOULDER WHICH MY SAFETY WAS JEOPARDIZED BY THIS CARS DEFAULT. NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO CONTACT BMW N/A HAVE BEEN MADE, TO NO AVAIL. *TR
REAR/AND OR FRONT BRAKES ARE NEEDED ON THIS CAR APPROXIMATELY EVERY 6 MONTHS AT LEAST. *TR
2007 BMW 328XI. ELECTRONIC DOOR LOCKS WOULD NOT UNLOCK. NO DOOR COULD BE UNLOCKED FROM INSIDE VEHICLE. NO DOOR COULD BE OPENED FROM INSIDE VEHICLE. PULLING THE INTERNAL DOOR LATCH REPEATEDLY FAILED TO UNLOCK OR OPEN DOOR. PUSHING ELECTRONIC LOCK/UNLOCK BUTTON ON DASHBOARD FAILED TO UNLOCK DOORS. LOWERING WINDOW AND USING MANUAL KEY IN EXTERIOR LOCK UNLOCKED DOOR BUT AS SOON AS KEY WAS ROTATED TO REMOVE FROM LOCK DOOR IMMEDIATELY ELECTRONICALLY RELOCKED. KEY HAD TO BE HELD IN UNLOCK POSITION WHILE INTERIOR DOOR LATCH WAS USED TO OPEN THE DOOR IN ORDER TO OPEN DOOR TO EXIT CAR. SUBSEQUENTLY EXCEPT FOR DRIVER'S DOOR ALL DOORS REMAINED INOPERABLE LOCKED BUT DRIVERS DOOR COULD BE OPENED ONLY MANUALLY WITH MANUAL KEY FROM EXTERIOR OR LATCH FROM INTERIOR WITHOUT AUTOMATICALLY RE-LOCKING. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND REPAIRED. DEALER REPORTED THAT A "SHORT" HAD CAUSED FAILURE OF ABILITY TO UNLOCK. EVENT HAS NOT OCCURRED AGAIN IN ONE MONTH. *TR
FAILED HPFP FOR THE 3RD TIME IN MY 2007 BMW 335I. *TR
DRIVING HOME MY 2007 BMW 335 ALL OF SUDDEN LOST HORSE POWER. ERROR MESSAGE STATED "ENGINE MALFUNCTION-REDUCED POWER". THIS OCCURRED ON AN ENTRY TO AN EXPRESSWAY WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE. IT OBVIOUS THE DANGERS THAT COULD HAPPEN WHEN THE VEHICLE LOSES POWER. I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO PULL OVER AND LIMP TO NEXT EXIT. THE DEALER SHIP STATED THE PROBLEM WAS HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP (HPFP) THE IS THE 2ND TIME THE HPFP HAS BEEN REPLACED ON MY VEHICLE. MY VEHICLE ONLY HAS 38K MILES. I DID FURTHER RESEARCH AND THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. BMW NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS BEFORE ANYONE GETS INJURED AS A RESULT OF THIS ISSUE. *TR
HAD MANY IN WARRANTEE VISITS AND REPAIRS INVOLVING THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT OC3 MAT...REPLACING THE MAT HAD PREVIOUSLY RESOLVED THE PROBLEM SUCCESSFULLY, BUT THE PROBLEM RETURNS A YEAR OR SO LATER.CURRENTLY,AS OF 9-23-15,THE ISSUE IS WHEN THE SEAT IS EXPOSED TO THE SUN ALL DAY, THE FRONT PASSENGER,WHILE SITTING IN THE SEAT IS NO LONGER PROTECTED BY THE AIR BAG..,THIS IS INDICATED BY THE "PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF" LIGHT IN THE OVERHEAD CONSOLE BEING LIT FOR THE DURATION OF THE TRIP.THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD... I HAVE A VIDEO AVAILABLE SHOWING THIS EXACT PROBLEM HAPPENING IN MY CAR. THIS MAKE,MODEL, AND YEAR HAS RECALLS AND 15 YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTEES CONCERNING THE OC3 MAT THAT BMW SAYS DOESN`T APPLY TO MY SPECIFIC VIN...I BELIEVE DUE TO THE SERIOUSNESS OF THE PASSENGER NOT BEING PROTECTED IN A COLLISION, MY SPECIFIC VIN SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL OR 15 YEAR EXTENSION.
2007 335I FUEL PUMP IS FAILING ON THE ROAD. MY MESSAGE SAYS "ENGINE MALFUNCTION REDUCED POWER" ON THE ROAD. THIS CAN BE DANGEROUS TO OTHER CARS ON THE ROAD. *TR
ON SATURDAY EVENING, MAY 15, 2010, THE DOOR ACTUATORS OF MY 2007 BMW 335I BLEW OUT A FUSE. AS A RESULT, NONE OF THE DOORS WERE CAPABLE OF BEING OPENED, EXCEPT FOR THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. THE CAR'S KEY FOB COULD NOT UNLOCK THE DOORS. THE LOCK BUTTON ON THE DASH WOULD NOT WORK. IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN ANY OF THE DOORS MANUALLY. THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN NO WAY A PASSENGER COULD HAVE EXITED THE CAR, EXCEPT BY CLIMBING THROUGH THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR OR BY CLIMBING OUT THE WINDOWS. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND PRESENTS PARTICULAR DANGERS TO DISABLED PASSENGERS. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN WELL-DOCUMENTED FOR 2007 3-SERIES VEHICLES ON THE WEB. STAFF AT BMW SAN FRANCISCO, WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR (CERTIFIED USED) SIX WEEKS AGO, TOLD ME TODAY (MAY 19, 2010) THAT EVEN WITH A NEW FUSE, THE PROBLEM COULD RECUR. I FURTHER UNDERSTAND THAT BMW HAS WILLFULLY REFUSED TO ISSUE A RECALL. THE FUSE BOX IS LOCATED IN THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT INSIDE THE CAR. WERE THE DOOR ACTUATORS TO CAUSE A FIRE AND THE PASSENGER DOORS INCAPABLE OF BEING OPENED, PASSENGERS COULD VERY WELL SUFFER SERIOUS INJURIES OR EVEN DEATH. THE 335I MANUAL INDICATES THAT MEDDLING WITH THE CAR'S FUSE BOX COULD RESULT IN A FIRE. *TR
I OWN A 2007 BMW 335I. A FEW MONTHS AGO AFTER A SERVICE ISSUE FOR AN UNRELATED PROBLEM, MY VEHICLE DASH DISPLAY WENT HAYWIRE AND SHOWED AN ENGINE PROBLEM. I WAS TRAVELING ON A HIGHWAY AT SPEED AND SUDDENLY NO POWER. THE VEHICLES BEHIND ME HAD TO SWERVE TO AVOID HITTING ME. IT WAS ALSO DIFFICULT TO GET OVER ONTO THE SHOULDER. THE DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THE ISSUE AS A FAILED HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. AFTER SOME RECENT RESEARCH I HAVE READ THAT THIS IS A COMMON AND KNOWN ISSUE WITH MY VEHICLE, YET THERE HAVE BEEN NO MANDATORY RECALLS, MERELY REPLACEMENTS PUMP THAT IN MANY CASES FAILS AGAIN. I SEE THIS AS A POTENTIALLY LIFE-THREATENING ISSUE THAT IS WAITING TO OCCUR GIVEN THE RIGHT CIRCUMSTANCES. *TR
HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE IN 2007 BMW E90 (SEDAN) 335I. DRIVABILITY ISSUES DUE TO VERY ROUGH ENGINE IDLE AND TROUBLE GETTING CAR RESTARTED. *TR
REPEATED DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR FAILURE IN 2007 BMW 3281. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, BOTH REAR DOORS AND THE FRONT PASSENGER DOORS ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN FROM OUTSIDE OR INSIDE. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH WHEN MY CAR STARTED TO SHUTTER. MY BMW STARTED TO SLOW DESPITE ME DEPRESSING THE GAS PEDAL. I HAD TO PULL OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS NOT A GOOD SPOT TO STOP. BMW ATTEMPTED TO FIX IT ONCE BY UPDATING THE CAR'S SOFTWARE. HOWEVER, THEY ENDED UP REPLACING THE FUEL PUMP. IT TOOK TWO SERVICE SESSIONS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR
I'VE OWNED A 2000 AND 2007 BMW 3 SERIES AND A 2010 X6 ALL WITH AIRBAG RECALLS BUT I DON'T OWN ANY OF THESE VEHICLES ANYMORE. AS A MATTER OF FACT I HIT A CURB AND MY DRIVERS AIRBAG BROKE MY FACIAL BONES WITH JUST HITTING A CURB AND WAS TOTALED OUT. WOULD I QUALIFY FOR COMPENSATION THROUGH THIS LARGE RECALL? AND WHAT INFO WOULD I NEED? *TR
THE DOORS ON MY 2007 BMW 328I WOULD NOT OPEN WITH THE PUSH BUTTON LOCK. I REMOVED THE MANUAL KEY AND WAS ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE. WHEN I RETURNED TO MY HOUSE, I REVIEWED THE OWNERS MANUAL AND CHECKED TO SEE IF THE SETTING WAS WRONG WITH THE KEY. PUSHING THE KEY, OPEN-CLOSE BUTTON THE DOORS LOCKED BUT WOULD NOT OPEN. I HAD THE FORESIGHT TO ROLL MY WINDOW DOWN PRIOR TO CHECKING THE LOCK. IF I HAD NOT DONE SO, I WOULD HAVE BEEN LOCKED IN THE VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENED IN FLORIDA AND COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL IF LOCKED IN THE CAR WITHOUT A WAY OUT IN THE FLORIDA HEAT. ALSO, THE GAS DOOR WAS LOCKED SHUT AND I WAS UNABLE TO PUT GAS IN THE VEHICLE. I CONTACTED THE BMW DEALERSHIP (QUALITY IMPORTS- FT WALTON BEACH) AND TOOK THE CAR TO THEM FOR REPAIRS. IT TOOK TWO DAYS INSTEAD OF THE TWO HOURS THAT I WAS PROMISED. ALSO, I FOUND OUT THAT THEY HAD A TECHNICAL REPAIR BULLETIN THAT HAD BEEN ISSUED REGARDING FAULTY LOCKS ON THIS MODEL VEHICLE. BESIDES THE SAFETY COMPLAINT I FEEL THAT I WAS CHARGES WHEN I SHOULD HAVE BEEN TAKEN CARE OF (NO COST TO THE CONSUMER) SINCE THIS VEHICLE'S PROBLEM WAS A SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE TALKED WITH CORPORATE BMW AND WAS TOLD THAT ANY ISSUE COULD BE CONSIDERED A SAFETY ISSUE. (I FELT THAT I WAS BLOWN OFF). I WOULD LIKE FOR THE FAULTY DOOR ACTUATORS TO BE CONSIDERED A SAFETY ISSUE AND NOT A TECHNICAL BULLETIN ISSUE. WHEN ASKING THE DEALERSHIP WHAT THEY MEANT BY A TECHNICAL BULLETIN, THE RESPONSE WAS THAT THEY KNEW ABOUT THE PROBLEM BUT THERE WAS NO SAFETY PROBLEMS IDENTIFIED. I DISAGREE. *TR
HIGH POWER FUEL PUMP FAILURE ON 2007 BMW 335I SEDAN. VEHICLE BEGAN EMITTING SMOKE OUT THE BACK, AND RUNNING VERY ROUGH. ON A LATER RESTART THE ENGINE COULD NOT STAY RUNNING. CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALER FOR REPAIRS. HPFP WAS REPLACED AND INJECTORS WERE REPLACED, ECU SOFTWARE UPDATED. *TR
FIRST TIME ABOUT FOUR MONTH AGO WHEN I WAS DRIVING, THE CAR SUDDENLY HAD CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON AND LOST ABOUT 50% POWER. NEXT DAY I TOOK THE CAR TO BMW DEALER AND THE CIL WAS GONE. THEY SAID EVERYTHING WAS FINE. TODAY WHEN I DROVE ON HIGHT WAY AT ABOUT 65 M/H, CIL ON AGAIN AND THE CAR LOSS POWER, I THINK THERE IS A SAFTY ISSUE WITH THIS CAR. *TR
SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER ON HIGHWAY. THE CAR DID NOT STOP OR CAUSE AN ACCIDENT BUT READING ARTICLES ABOUT OTHERS WHO HAVE HAD SAME PROBLEMS WHERE CAR STALLED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS SCARES ME TO DEATH.
I WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND THE ELECTRONIC STEERING WHEEL LOCK ICON ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH PANEL. IT KEPT GIVING THE WARNING THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WILL LOCK AND IF I TURN THE CAR OFF, I WON'T BE ABLE TO CRANK IT. I DROVE IT FOR ABOUT TWO WEEKS. WHEN I TURNED THE CAR OFF, I COULD NOT CRANK IT BACK UP. I HAD TO HAVE THE STEERING COLUMN REPLACED AT MY LOCAL BMW REPAIR SHOP. I HAVE KNOWN OTHER BMW OWNER'S WHO SAYS THIS HAS HAPPENED TO THEM MORE THAN ONCE. I AM WONDERING IF THIS IS A DEFECT IN THE BMW 328I MODELS BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE STEERING WHEEL COULD ALSO LOCK IF A PERSON WAS DRIVING, ALSO. *TR
YOU CAN'T HIT A POT HOLE WITHOUT BENDING A RIM MY DAUGHTER JUST BOUGHT 09 328 WITH 7800 MILES, DROVE IT 3000MILES, HAS ONE CRACKED RIM, TWO BENT RIMS AND THE SHOP SAID SHE HAS TWO DAMAGED TIRES. SHE BOUGHT 4 NEW TIRES. I'M SORRY I TOLD HER TO BUY BMW. MY SON BOUGHT 08 335XI WITH 60000 MILES. DROVE IT FOR A FEW MONTHS, THE DEALER SAID IT NEEDED 3 RIMS STRAIGHTEN. AFTER 8114 MILES IN RESPONSE TO MY COMPLAINS WITH THE HANDLING, AND NOISE, THE TIRES WERE FOUND TO BE SCALLOPED AND ALL 4 WERE REPLACED (WITH SAME MAKE AND MODEL) FREE OF CHARGE IN 2007. AT 22K MILES (14K ON NEW TIRES) THE NOISE BECAME UNBEARABLE AND AT 28,555 (20K ON TIRES) I TOOK THE CAR BACK IN AND WAS TOLD TO REPLACE THE TIRES FOR CLOSE TO $1000 (SINCE THE DEALER SAID THEY COULD ONLY REPLACE TIRES ONCE) WITH ADVISE TO SHOP FOR A BETTER PRICE. GIVEN THAT MY STATE INSPECTION GUIDELINES CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY ISSUE, AND I'M ASKED TO CHANGE TIRES TWICE UNDER 29K MILES, I WOULD HAVE HOPED BMW OR BRIDGESTONE WOULD HAVE DONE SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING AT ABOUT 45 MPH ON A BUSY RUSH HOUR FREEWAY IN I-270 NORTH. IMMEDIATELY I TURNED ON THE EMERGENCY LIGHTS AND MADE EVERY EFFORT TO MAKE IT TO THE LEFT SHOULDER WITH A STALLED (DEAD) ENGINE. THE CAR BEHIND ME IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THE PROBLEM AND SLOWED DOWN, AS WELL AS THE OTHER CARS BEHIND HIM. MY CAR CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP WITH HALF OF THE BODY STILL IN THE FREEWAY. I WAS SHAKING DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS, BUT WHEN I SHIFTED THE GEAR TO "PARK" AND PUSHED THE "START" BUTTON, IMMEDIATELY THE CAR STARTED WITH NO PROBLEM AT ALL. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION ABOUT FOUR MONTHS AGO, MY SON WAS DRIVING THE CAR ON A ONE-LANE ROAD AT ABOUT 30 MPH. WITHOUT WARNING THE ENGINE STALLED AGAIN AND THERE WASN'T ANY SHOULDER HE CAN SAFELY TURN TO BECAUSE OF A CONCRETE PAVEMENT. THE CARS BEHIND STOPPED TO HELP HIM MOVE TO THE SIDE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, BUT WHEN HE SHIFTED TO "PARK" AND PUSHED "START", THE CAR IMMEDIATELY STARTED WITHOUT ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. THE THERMOSTAT WAS FAILING TO COOL THE VEHICLE UNDER EXTREME HEAT CONDITIONS (OVER 100 DEGREE DAYS), TOOK VEHICLE IN TO CHECK THE THERMOSTAT, BUT IT WAS ONLY A 90 DEGREE DAY WHEN THEY LOOKED AT THE CAR, AND WERE "UNABLE TO REPRODUCE PROBLEM", SO THEY RETURNED THE VEHICLE. ABOUT 6 MONTHS LATER, I TOOK VEHICLE IN TO CHECK THE THERMOSTAT WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO WARM UP UNDER EXTREME COLD CONDITIONS (UNDER 30 DEGREE MORNINGS). AGAIN, "UNABLE TO REPRODUCE PROBLEM" BECAUSE WHEN THE MECHANICS GOT TO WORK IN THE MORNING, THE TEMPERATURES WERE OVER 40 DEGREES. OTHER THAN EXTREME CONDITIONS, THE THERMOSTAT SEEMED TO WORK FINE. BUT THE FOLLOWING YEAR, ON A COLD MORNING, NOT ONLY DID THE VEHICLE FAIL TO WARM UP, BUT THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CAME ON. BY THE TIME I WAS ABLE TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT AND BRING THE CAR IN, THE LIGHT HAD GONE OUT, AND AGAIN, THE SERVICE DEPT. WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHAT MADE THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT COME ON. THEY SAID IT MUST BE AN "INTERMITTENT PROBLEM". YES, IT WAS!! AND THE LIGHT CAME ON ANOTHER TIME, BUT I WAS OUT OF TOWN, SO THAT BY THE TIME I GOT BACK, AGAIN IT HAD GONE OUT. THE PROBLEM FINALLY GOT BAD ENOUGH FOR THE LIGHT TO COME ON AGAIN, AND THIS TIME I DROVE THE VEHICLE DIRECTLY TO THE DEALERSHIP W/O TURNING IT OFF, SO THEY COULD DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. THEY FINALLY CONFIRMED THERE WAS INDEED A PROBLEM WITH THE THERMOSTAT, LIKE I HAD TOLD THEM ALL ALONG, AND THEY REPLACED THE THERMOSTAT. WHEN I GOT HOME AND CHECKED THE INTERNET, I FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH MY ENGINE IN THIS MODEL BMW. AND BMW HAS NOT MADE A RECALL TO REPAIR THE ITEM. THIS IS A KNOWN AND FREQUENTLY RECURRING PROBLEM THAT BMW SHOULD BE MADE TO PAY FOR &/OR REIMBURSE CUSTOMERS FOR EXPENSES THEY INCURRED IN FIXING THE PROBLEM, JUST LIKE THE FUEL PUMP AND BATTERY PROBLEMS FOR THIS SAME MODEL VEHICLE THAT WERE FIXED UNDER RECALLS!! *TR
RUNFLAT TIRES ON BMW 328XI ARE NOT SUITED TO AMERICAN ROADS. HIT A POTHOLE ON THE HIGHWAY WITH THE RUNFLAT TIRES. WHEEL WAS DAMAGED AND TIRE WAS DAMAGED AS WELL. RUNFLAT TIRES SEEM LESS RESILIENT THAN STANDARD TIRES, AND RESULT IN GREATER LIKELIHOOD OF WHEEL DAMAGE. TIRE DID NOT GO FLAT, BUT WHEEL AND TIRE NEED REPLACEMENT. *TR
HAD A HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP (HPFP) FAILURE WHILE DRIVING WHICH RESULTED IN THE CAR GOING INTO LIMP MODE (REDUCED ENGINE POWER) WHILE DRIVING. THIS LIMP MODE IS POTENTIALLY A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE IN THAT IF YOU ARE ON THE HIGHWAY, MERGING, PASSING, OR AROUND TOWN DRIVING AND YOU GET THIS LIMP MODE YOU CAN BE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE VEHICLE NOT RESPONDING AS YOU, OR OTHER DRIVERS, WOULD EXPECT. SYMPTOMS OF THIS ISSUE ARE LONG STARTING CRANK PERIODS BEFORE THE VEHICLE TURNS OVER. PROBLEM WITH LOST ENGINE POWER IN MY 2007 MODEL BMW 335I CONVERTIBLE CAR FIVE TIMES IN 2009. ONE INSTANCE INVOLVED A FUEL LINE SEPARATION ON AN EXPRESSWAY OUTSIDE CHICAGO. EACH TIME THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO BMW DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE. FUEL INJECTORS WERE REPLACED. POLLUTION CONTROL DEVICES WERE REPLACED. BUT PROBLEM WAS NOT CORRECTED. MY VEHICLE HAS AN ISSUE WHERE APPARENTLY A FUSE BLOWS AND THE DOOR LOCKS CAN NOT BE ACTIVATED BY THE FOB, INTERIOR HANDLES (EXCEPT THE DRIVER DOOR), OR THE INTERIOR DOOR LOCKING SWITCH. [PLEASE NOTE THAT I DO NOT HAVE ANY CHILD SAFETY LOCKS ACTIVATED ON THE REAR DOORS.] THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN OPEN THE DRIVER DOOR IS THROUGH THE VALET KEY. THIS IS A SECOND COMPLAINT OF THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM THAT I HAD PREVIOUSLY IN APRIL 2008. THE ODI ID NUMBER IS: 10227507. ON THE EVENING OF JAN. 2ND, 2010, THE REPLACEMENT FUEL PUMP FAILED WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE CAR AS I WAS MAKING AN APPROACH TO THE ONRAMP ONTO THE FREEWAY. THE CAR SHUDDERED, RATTLED, AND LOSS POWER AND EVENTUALLY DIED. I HAD TO TOW THE CAR TO A STORAGE OVERNIGHT AND WAITED UNTIL JAN. 4TH, A MONDAY, TO TOW THE CAR AGAIN TO A NEARBY BMW SERVICE CENTER. IT WAS VERY FRUSTRATING THAT I WAS STRANDED 140 MILES AWAY FROM HOME, AND HAD NO TRANSPORTATION FOR 48 HOURS UNTIL THE PROBLEM HAD BEEN RESOLVED THEREAFTER. *TR

ORIGINAL WARRANTY EXPIRED AT 50,000 MILES SO I BEGAN TAKING MY VEHICLE TO A LICENSED MECHANIC TO DO SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. WHILE DRIVING OVER TO THE MECHANIC FOR A BRAKE CHANGE I WENT TO STOP AND LOST USAGE OF MY BRAKE. THIS RESULTED IN ME MERELY REARENDING THE BACK END OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. MY MECHANIC REPLACED ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS; AND THERE WAS STILL A PROBLEM. SO HE BEGAN TO LOOK OVER MY CAR AND FOUND THAT THE VACUUM BOOST PUMP FOR MY BAKES WAS POSSIBLY BAD. ONCE OPENED IN THAT AREA HE FOUND THAT THE BOLT HOLDING THE SPROCKET WAS BROKEN. PART OF THE BOLT WAS REMAINING AND THE REST IS STILL MISSING SOMEWHERE IN MY ENGINE. TOWED MY CAR BECAUSE IT IS NOT DRIVABLE TO BMW OF RIVERSIDE TO HAVE THEM LOOK IT OVER AND FIX THE FAULTY BOLT. THEY REFUSED TO FIX IT BECAUSE IT WANTS SERVICED THERE FOR ONE YEAR DUE TO THE EXPIRED WARRANTY. I CALLED BMW OF NORTH AMERICA TO FILE A CLAIM TO INVESTIGATE IT UNDER A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE BMW OF RIVERSIDE SAID IT WAS A MECHANICAL ISSUE, BUT IT IS TRULY A SAFETY ISSUE. HE STATES THAT THE SPROCKETS AND THE CHAIN ARE LODGED AND THE ONLY WAY THAT THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED IS WHEN THE CAR IS RUNNING, NOT BUY HIM WORKING ON IT IN ANY WAY. ALSO THERE IS A WEBSITE SAYING THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS PARTICULAR PART IN OLD AND NEW BMW VEHICLES. *TR
WHEN I TRIED TO MAKE A SHARP U TURN ON A HILLSIDE STREET, THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, AND STOPPED WITH ITS BELLY STUCK ON THE CURB AND THE REAR WHEELS IN THE AIR AFTER HITTING THE GUARD RAIL ACROSS THE STREET.
