The contact stated that there was an abnormal burning plastic odor after starting the vehicle. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 100,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
UNABLE TO OPEN FRONT PASSENGER DOOR AND REAR PASSENGER DOOR DUE TO FAILURE OF FUSE CAUSED BY DEFECTIVE DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS CREATING AN UNSAFE CONDITION IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS KNOWN PROBLEM BY BMW AS SERVICE BULLETIN WAS ISSUED. AS A TECHNICAL EXPERT IN THIS FIELD I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. THE FAILURE MODE IS UNSAFE AND CAN OCCUR DURING DRIVING, IF FAILURE OCCURS DURING DRIVING PASSENGERS CANNOT EXIT THE VEHICLE. THE LOCKING SYSTEM DOES NOT COMPLY TO FMVSS206 S4.1.3 AS THERE IS NO ABILITY TO UNLOCK THE MECHANISM ONCE THE DOOR IS LOCKED AND THE FUSE FAILS. *TR
MODEL: 2007 BMW 328I. THE ELECTRONIC "DOOR ACTUATORS" FAILED. AS A RESULT, IT BECAME IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN ANY DOOR OF THE VEHICLE FROM THE INSIDE, EXCEPT THE DRIVER'S DOOR. WHEN THESE ELECTRONIC DOOR ACTUATORS FAIL, PASSENGERS ARE TRAPPED IN THE VEHICLE, AND ARE EXPOSED TO INJURY OR DEATH IN THE EVENT OF A FIRE OR IF THE VEHICLE BECOMES SUBMERGED. THE SERVICE ADVISOR AT THE DEALERSHIP (WEATHERFORD BMW, BERKELEY, CALIFORNIA) SUGGESTED THAT EVEN IF THE ELECTRONIC DOOR ACTUATORS WERE DISABLED THE DOORS COULD STILL BE OPENED BY PULLING TWICE ON THE OPENING LATCH. HOWEVER, WHEN THIS WAS TRIED, THE DOORS STILL COULD NOT BE OPENED. THE SERVICE ADVISORS DID COMMENT THAT THIS PROBLEM HAD OCCURRED IN OTHER 328I MODELS; AND, IN FACT, ANOTHER VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED FOR THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM. IN VIEW OF THIS EXTREMELY SERIOUS DEFECT WHICH APPARENTLY EXISTS WITH THE 328I MODEL, RESULTING IN TRAPPING PASSENGERS IF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM CONTROLLING THE DOORS FAILS, WE STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT THIS DEFECT BE INVESTIGATED, AND THAT THE SUBJECT VEHICLES BE RECALLED SO THAT THE DEFECT CAN BE CORRECTED BEFORE DEATHS OR INJURIES OCCUR. *TR
BMW 335I MASTER BRAKE AND ABS SYSTEM FAILURE WITHOUT PARTS AVAILABLE IN USA, CANADA, NOR EUROPE TO EFFECT REPAIR. BMW WILL NOT EXPLAIN THE ABSENCE OF PARTS TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. VEHICLE CANNOT BE CURRENTLY SERVICED WITH NO ESTIMATE FOR PART AVAILABILITY. SUSPECT AN EXTENSIVE PROBLEM HAS NOT YET SURFACED. *TR
DASHBOARD INDICATES, "ELECTRIC STEERING LOCK ENGAGED". CAR IS CURRENTLY DRIVABLE, HOWEVER THE DEALER HAS INFORMED ME THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED OFTEN IN THIS YEAR AND MODEL OF BMW, AND WILL CONTINUE TO WORSEN UNTIL THE CAR WILL NO LONGER TURN ON. THE MALFUNCTIONING FEATURE (STEERING WHEEL LOCK) HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM SUBSEQUENT MODELS, INDICATING THAT THE MANUFACTURER RECOGNIZES THE MALFUNCTION. REPAIR INCLUDES REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN, COST TO REPAIR IS APPROXIMATELY $1300. *TR

TIRE CUPPING ON 3 SERIES BMWS. CAUSE UNKNOWN. DEALER STATES ITS A TIRE ISSUE. IF ONE LOOKS ON ANY OF THE CAR FORUMS ONLINE, YOU QUICKLY CAN DETERMINE THERE IS A HUGE ISSUE WITH TIRE CUPPING ON THESE VEHICLES. I OWN A 2007 335I BMW. I'M HAVING TO REPLACE THE TIRES @ 19K MILES. *TR
CENTRAL LOCKING FAILURE CAUSING ONLY THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR TO BE OPERABLE. THE PASSENGER AND REAR DOORS CANNOT BE OPENED FROM THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. IN THE EVENT OF FIRE PASSENGERS COULD NOT LET THEMSELVES OUT OR EMERGENCY PERSONNEL WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO OPEN THE 3 DOORS FROM THE OUTSIDE. *TR
I DISCOVERED FEW WEEKS AGO THAT THE CAR I LEASE SINCE 2008 DOES NOT HAVE A SPARE TIRE. WHEN I INQUIRE THE REASON WHY, THE MANUFACTURER EXPLAINED THAT THE CAR USES ESPECIAL TIRES CALLED RUN FLAT WHICH IN THE EVENT OF A TIRE PROBLEM WOULD ALLOW ME TO GO TO THE NEXT TIRE SHOP. THERE ARE A NUMBER OF PROBLEMS WITH THIS ARGUMENT. FIRST, THE RATIONALE FOR ELIMINATING A SPARE TIRE IS FLAWED AND UNSAFE: A SPARE PROVIDES DRIVERS WITH AN EXTRA WHEEL ' INCLUDING BOTH TIRE AND RIM, IN CASE SOMETHING HAPPENS WITH EITHER COMPONENT. ELIMINATING THE SPARE BECAUSE A CAR HAS RFTS (RUN FLAT TIRES) FAILS TO TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THAT THE WHEELS OF THE CAR CAN ALSO SUFFER DAMAGE TO THE POINT OF IMMOBILIZING THE VEHICLE. THIS IS AN IMPORTANT SAFETY HAZARD THAT WOULD BE EASILY SOLVED WITH A SPARE TIRE. SECOND, AFTER RESEARCHING ABOUT RFTS I FOUND OUT THAT MOST TIRE SHOPS IN THE METROPOLITAN AREA WHERE I LIVE DON'T CARRY THESE TIRES (ONE NEEDS TO PRE-ORDER THEM) AND CANNOT EVEN REPAIR THEM. I CANNOT IMAGINE WHAT WOULD BE THE AVAILABILITY OUTSIDE METROPOLITAN AREAS. THIRD, THESE TIRES ARE TWICE OR THREE TIMES AS EXPENSIVE AS A REGULAR TIRE ' THE CHEAPEST RFT FOR MY CAR ARE $200 PER TIRE; AND ACCORDING TO TIRE SHOP EMPLOYEES THEY TYPICALLY LAST HALF THE MILEAGE OF A REGULAR TIRE. FOURTH, AND PERHAPS THE MOST CONCERNING ISSUE, WHEN I WAS BUYING THE CAR NOBODY AT THE DEALERSHIP DISCLOSED THE TYPE OF TIRES THE CAR HAD OR THE LACK OF SPARE TIRE. IF I WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS INFORMATION I SIMPLY WOULD NOT HAVE LEASED THE VEHICLE. I CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY SAID THAT EVEN THOUGH THEY SUGGEST THEIR DEALERS DISCLOSE THIS INFORMATION, THEY CANNOT MONITOR NOR CAN THEY DO ANYTHING TO MAKE THE DEALERS COMPLY. I THINK BOTH MANUFACTURER AND DEALERS ARE TO BLAME FOR PUTTING PEOPLE AT RISK BY ELIMINATING THE SPARE TIRE, AND FOR NOT BEING FORTHCOMING AND EXPLICIT ABOUT THE INTRODUCTION OF NEW TECHNOLOGIES THAT MAY AFFECT THE PURCHASE DECISION. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A SET OF BRIDGESTONE RUN FLAT POTENZA TIRES ON A 2007 BMW 328I. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A CLICKING NOISE. AFTER EXAMINING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE TREAD WAS DISCONNECTED FROM THE TIRE. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH THE MANUFACTURER ABOUT RELATED RUN FLAT TIRE COMPLAINTS AND THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE INSPECTED BY A DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THEY HAD NEVER SEEN THAT FORM OF TREAD SEPARATION; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. THE CONTACT WOULD LIKE FOR THE MANUFACTURER TO ASSUME THE REPAIR COST.
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR FROM FLORIDA TO NEW MEXICO AS PART OF A MILITARY CHANGE OF STATION. I WAS ON MY SECOND DAY OF THE TRIP, FROM FORT WORTH, TX TO PORTALS, NM, WHEN I EXPERIENCED SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF POWER 5 TIMES IN A 200 MILE DISTANCE (NO WARNING, NO WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH). TWICE, THE CAR TURNED ITSELF OFF SUDDENLY, DISABLING THE POWER STEERING, WITH NO WARNING AT ALL. ONCE WAS AT HIGH SPEED ON THE INTERSTATE; THE OTHER WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A SMALL TOWN. THANKFULLY IT DID NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT EITHER TIME. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM AND IT HAS HAPPENED TWICE IN ONE DAY. BMW OF NORTH AMERICA HAS BEEN CONTACTED REGARDING THESE INCIDENTS. IT IS A 90 MINUTE DRIVE ON VERY DESOLATE ROADS TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP IN LUBBOCK, TX, SO I HAVE REQUESTED THAT THE CAR BE TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE AS IT IS UNSAFE FOR ME TO DRIVE IN THIS CONDITION. I AM AWAITING A RESOLUTION TO MY PROBLEM FROM BMW OF NORTH AMERICA. *TR
PASSENGER SEAT BELT SENSOR IS FAULT CAUSING MY AIRBAG SENSOR TO GO OFF WHICH INDICATES THAT THERE IS A "FAILURE IN THE PASSENGER RESTRAINING SYSTEM." CAN NOT UNLOCK DOORS USING THE KEY FOB! ONLY DRIVER DOOR CAN BE OPENED MANUALLY USING THE KEY INSIDE THE KEY FOB! NO OTHER DOORS COULD BE OPENED EVEN MANUALLY USING THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES! (THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW THAT NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED OTHERWISE IT CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ISSUES IF PROBLEM OCCURS IN AN ACCIDENT THAT COULD MAKE EXITING THE VEHICLE VERY DIFFICULT TO IMPOSSIBLE ). *TR
2007 BMW 335I HPFP FAILED ON THE HIGHWAY CAR STALLED AND CAME TO A STOP AS I ROLLED OFF THE SHOULDER. A SECOND HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP IS INDICATING THAT ITS GOING TO FAIL AND I AM SERIOUSLY CONCERNED ABOUT DRIVING IT. THE CAR ONLY HAS 16,000MILES AND DEALER REFUSE TO SWAP THE PUMP UNTIL THERE IS ACTUALLY FAILURE EVEN THOUGH I HAVE EXHIBITED ALL THE SIGNS THAT THE PUMP IS ABOUT TO FAIL AGAIN. THEY ONLY PROVIDED ME A SOFTWARE UPDATE. I AM SERIOUSLY CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY AND AS A RESULT AM NOT DRIVING THIS CAR LONG DISTANCES OR ON THE HIGHWAY.. I THINK ITS ABOUT TIME AUTHORITIES STEP UP AND FORCE BMW TO DEAL WITH THIS VERY SERIOUS VEHICLE HAZARD, WHICH THEY ARE ABUNDANTLY AWARE OF, BUT REFUSE TO DO NOTHING ABOUT. *TR
2007 335I COUPE - CAR EXPERIENCES A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER WHILE DRIVING AT NORMAL SPEEDS. CAR OMITS MALFUNCTION WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD. THIS CAR HAS HAD THIS HAPPEN NOW AT LEAST 3 TIMES. THE PREVIOUS TWO TIMES BMW DEALER FOUND FAULTY FUEL PUMPS AND REPLACED. NOW, BMW DEALER CLAIMS THE CAR NEEDS NEW CAM SHAFTS IN THE CAR, MEANWHILE ENGINE HAS BEEN TAKEN OUT OF THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY TO ATTEMPT THE REPAIR. IT SEEMS LIKE BMW DOES NOT WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE CAR HAS MAJOR ISSUES.*TR
HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILED ON MY CAR TWICE 1ST INSTANCE - 3000 MILES ON CAR - 2 MONTHS OLD - OCTOBERISH OF 07 - SYMPTOMS WERE LONG CRANKING - TAKING 5-10 SECONDS TO START - OCCASIONALLY 20-30 SECONDS. (COMPLAINT WAS NEVER FILED - DEALER REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY) 2ND INSTANCE - JUST A FEW WEEKS AGO - NO WARNING - DRIVING AWAY FROM MY HOUSE, PULLING INTO A BUSY STREET, SUDDENLY ALMOST NO POWER, AND ALMOST STALLED, AND WOULD HAVE IF I DIDN'T GET THE CLUTCH IN AND FOOT ON THE GAS AS QUICK AS I DID. CAR WENT INTO LIMP MODE AND WAS BARELY DRIVABLE. HAD TO ABUSE THE CLUTCH JUST TO GET IT TO MOVE WITHOUT STALLING, FELT LIKE IT HAD MAYBE 50 HORSEPOWER IF I WAS LUCKY. NO EXAGGERATION. - WOULD OCCASIONALLY STALL AT IDLE AT THIS POINT. BARELY LIMPED A FEW BLOCKS HOME. (THIS FUEL PUMP WAS THE 2ND IN THE CAR, HAD ABOUT 25,000 MILES ON IT AND ABOUT 1.5 YEARS). *TR
THE FUEL PUMP/ INJECTOR PROBLEM IN BMW335I TWIN TURBO CHARGED ENGINES. THE CAR SUDDENLY GETS INTO A LIMP MODE(DROP POWER AND ENGINE MALFUNCTION LIGHTS ON) WHEN DRIVING ON FREEWAYS/RAMPS ETC. FUEL PUMP REPLACED. THE PROBLEM OCCURS AGAIN IN 2 MONTHS. FUEL INJECTORS REPLACED. DON'T KNOW IF THIS WILL OCCUR AGAIN. *TR
EARLIER THIS YEAR I WENT ON A WEEKEND TRIP WITH MY FAMILY: MY WIFE ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, ON THE REAR SEAT MY SISTER AND MY TWO AND A HALF YEAR OLD NIECE ON HER CAR SEAT. WHEN WE ARRIVED TO OUR DESTINATION NONE OF THE PASSENGER DOORS WOULD OPEN; THEY WERE COMPLETELY SHUT AND THEY WOULD NOT OPEN WITH THE INTERNAL CONTROLS, THE REMOTE OR IN ANY OTHER WAY. ONLY THE DRIVERS' DOOR, WHICH IS ALSO THE ONLY DOOR THAT HAS A KEY HOLE, WOULD OPEN. ALL OTHER DOORS ARE KEY-LESS AND REMAINED LOCKED. MY FAMILY HAD TO CLIMB THROUGH THE WINDOWS TO GET OUT OF THE CAR. THIS WAS ESPECIALLY DIFFICULT WITH MY LITTLE NIECE IN THE BACK SEAT. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY FOUND THE PROBLEM'S CAUSE WAS A BLOWN FUSE. FORTUNATELY WE DID NOT HAVE AN EMERGENCY THAT REQUIRE A QUICK EXIT OF OR ENTRY INTO THE CAR. BUT MY FAMILY AND I ARE VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY HAZARD THIS DESIGN REPRESENT. IN THE EVENT WE WOULD HAVE BEEN REQUIRED TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE IN A RUSH WE COULD NOT HAVE DONE IT. MY WIFE IS NOW PREGNANT I AM REALLY CONCERNED ABOUT HOW SAFE THIS VEHICLE REALLY IS. THE DEALERSHIP AND THE MANUFACTURER ARGUE THAT THIS IS A SIMPLE MALFUNCTION AND THEY CANNOT GUARANTEE IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN. THEY ARE OBVIOUSLY DISMISSING THE CASE; I BELIEVE THE SYSTEM SHOULD BE DESIGNED TO ALLOW FOR MANUAL LOCK/UNLOCK OF THE DOORS EVEN IF THE FUSE BLOWS - AT LEAST FROM THE INSIDE. GOOD SAFETY ENGINEERING POLICIES SHOULD STATE THAT IN THE EVENT OF A FUSE BLOW NO SYSTEM SHOULD GET PASSENGERS LOCKED INSIDE THEIR CARS; THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE. FAILURE TO FIX THIS REPRESENTS A PASSENGER'S CASUALTY WAITING TO HAPPEN. I HOPE YOU SEE IT THIS WAY TOO. *TR
CAR SUDDENLY LOSS ANY POWER WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, CAR WAS SHAKING AND UNABLE TO GAIN SPEED. *TR
MY VEHICLE SHAKES AND SHUTS DOWN WHEN IM STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT AND EVEN SOMETIMES WHEN I PUT IT ON IN THE MORNING, THIS HAS HAPPENED MORE THAN FIVE OR SIX TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE, I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY KEEP SAYING THEY CAN NOT FIND THE PROBLEM AND THEY REFRESH A COMPUTER THEY SAY. ALSO THE SERVICE LIGHT COMES ON WHEN I HAVE THIS PROBLEM AND BEFORE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. *TR
I PURCHASED A USED 2007 BMW 328XI COUPE WITH THE ZF 6-19 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. (NOT THE ZF 6-19 TU) TWO WEEKS AFTER THE PURCHASE I WAS TRAVELING AT A STEADY 45 MPH & HAD TO BRAKE QUICKLY TO ABOUT 5 MPH. I THEN IMMEDIATELY HIT THE GAS TO ACCELERATE AWAY, AND THE CAR DID NOT RESPOND FOR AN UNACCEPTABLE PERIOD OF TIME. DEALERSHIP COULDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM. I TESTED THE CAR & DETERMINED THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN TOP (6TH) GEAR, AND WAS BRAKED RAPIDLY DOWN TO A SPEED NEEDING A SUBSTANTIALLY LOWER GEAR, THE TRANSMISSION REMAINS IN 6TH. WHEN THE DRIVER ATTEMPTS TO ACCELERATE THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS ONE GEAR AT A TIME, TAKES ABOUT 0.8 SECONDS PER GEAR CHANGE, AND DOES NOT PROVIDE ANY ACCELERATIVE FORCE UNTIL IT HAS MADE IT TO THE CORRECT GEAR. IN AN INCIDENT WHEN DECELERATING FROM TOP GEAR TO 10 MPH OR LESS AND THEN IMMEDIATELY ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE, THE CAR TAKES ABOUT 4 SECONDS TO BEGIN TO RESPOND. ONCE I DEMONSTRATED IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY LOOKED INTO IT FURTHER. BMW'S RESPONSE WAS "THE VEHICLE IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED." FURTHER COMPLAINTS RESULTED IN "CUSTOM SOFTWARE" FOR THE TRANSMISSION WHICH DROPPED THE DELAY FROM ABOUT 4 SECONDS TO ABOUT 3.75 SECONDS, AND ALLOWED THE TRANSMISSION TO TRANSFER SOME POWER TO THE WHEELS AS IT WAS WORKING DOWN THE GEARS. IT WAS AN EXTREMELY LIMITED IMPROVEMENT, STILL FAR FROM SAFE. A FOUR SECOND DELAY BEFORE A DRIVER CAN MOVE THE CAR EFFECTIVELY AFTER BREAKING IS UNSAFE. I AM FORTUNATE IN THAT I DISCOVERED THIS PROBLEM IN A SITUATION WHERE I WANTED TO ACCELERATE, BUT DIDN'T HAVE TO, IN ORDER TO AVOID A COLLISION. HAD THIS HAPPENED ON THE 75 MPH FREEWAYS IN IDAHO WHERE I LIVE, I COULD EASILY BEEN HURT OR KILLED. THIS WAS REPORTED TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND BMW NORTH AMERICA. NEITHER ENTITY INDICATED THAT THEY BELIEVED THERE WAS ANY SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
PURCHASED A BMW 335I COUPE FROM BMW OF MANHATTAN AND IT HAS BROKEN DOWN HALF A DOZEN TIMES AND SPENT OVER 30 CONSECUTIVE DAYS AT THE SERVICE DEPT. WHEN IT BROKE DOWN THE FIRST TIME DUE TO FAULTY FUEL PUMP THAT I WAS TOLD IS ON BACK ORDER THEN BROKE DOWN FEW MORE TIMES DUE TO SIMILAR PROBLEMS INCLUDING RECENTLY CAR DYING ON ME DUE TO FUEL INJECTOR MALFUNCTION. 23K MILES ON THE CAR. *TR
HPFP FAILED FOR THE 2ND TIME IN MY 2007 BMW 335I. *TR
BMW AUTO JACK PART # 71 10 6 773 536 USED WITH 2007 BMW 328I SPORT WAGON. THIS FLOOR JACK IS AN ACCESSORY FOR BMW AUTOMOBILES AND AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE FROM BMW DEALERS. ALTHOUGH SOLD AND MARKETED BY BMW, IT APPEARS TO BE MANUFACTURED BY BILSTEIN. THIS JACK FAILED ON ITS 4TH USE. THE MAIN SCREW MECHANISM STRIPPED RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE FALLING. THE JACK WAS ON A SECURE GARAGE FLOOR, WAS SECURELY LOCKED INTO THE BMW JACK POSTS ON THE VEHICLE, AND WAS USED ACCORDING TO DIRECTIONS IN EVERY RESPECT. THE CAR WAS SECURE AND THE JACK WAS IN A PROPER VERTICAL ORIENTATION. THE FAILURE WAS SUDDEN AND THERE IS EVIDENCE THAT THE THREADS IN THE MAIN SCREW-TYPE MECHANISM HAVE STRIPPED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 BMW 328XI. THE VEHICLE HAS BRIDGESTONE TIRES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HER TIRES ARE DEFECTIVE AT 18,000 MILES. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE VEHICLE BEGAN SWERVING TO THE LEFT AND THE TIRES FELT HARD. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TIRES ARE DEFECTIVE AND ALL FOUR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE TIRES ARE CALLED "FLAT" TIRES AND NO SPARE TIRE WAS AVAILABLE. IF THE "FLAT" TIRES EVER GO FLAT, SHE CAN STILL DRIVE ON THEM FOR AT LEAST 125 MORE MILES. THE DEALER WILL REPLACE TWO OF HER TIRES FOR FREE, BUT THE OTHER TWO MUST BE PURCHASED AT THE COST OF $625. THE TIRE SIZE WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,025.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 60 MPH, THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR OPENED BY ITSELF AND DOOR OPEN WARNING SHOWED UP. CAR READ 62,000 MILES, BMW REPLACED WATERPUMP ($1,600). VANOS SPROCKETS THAT PREMATURELY FAIL ARE A KNOWN ISSUE AT THE BMW SERVICE CENTER HERE IN TX MINE FAILED AT 63,000 MILES ($1900). PASSENGER MAT SENSOR SEAT SENSOR FAILED AT 63,000 MILES ($800). A WELL KNOWN ISSUE AT THE BMW DEALERSHIP BIT THEY DO NOTHING ABOUT IT... NOW MY TURBO CHARGERS HAVE FAILED DUE TO WASTE GATE BUT THANKFULLY BMW EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 82,000 MILES. DOOR LOCKS PERMANENTLY LOCKED FROM INSIDE OF CAR WHILE I WAS I STOPPED AT A MALL PARKING SPOT WITH WIFE AND 9 MONTH OLD SON. I COULD NOT UNLATCH THE DOORS BY USING THE DOOR UNLOCK BUTTON AND THROUGH THE KEY UNLOCK BUTTON. (SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED SINCE MY OWNERSHIP BEGAN AT 14400 MILES AND THIRD IN CARS TOTAL HISTORY ACCORDING TO THE OWNERSHIP RECORD). CAR IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY UNTIL DECEMBER 24 2011. JUST HAD THIS PROBLEM FIXED ON 1/8/2009 AT PERILLO BMW IN CHICAGO IL.I HAD TO ROLL DOWN MY WINDOW, CLIMB OUT, AND THEN TAKE THE KEY OUT OF THE KEY FOB AND UNLOCK THE DRIVER DOOR. I HAD TO HAVE MY WIFE CLIMB IN BACK TO GET SON OUT OF SEAT AND PASS HIM FORWARD TO THE FRONT SEAT SO I COULD GET HIM OUT THROUGH THE DRIVERS DOOR. SHE CLIMBED BACK INTO FRONT AND GOT OUT DRIVERS DOOR. THIS TOOK APPROXIMATELY 4-5 MINUTES. IF THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT OR A CAR FIRE, THERE IS NOW WAY I COULD HAVE GOTTEN MY FAMILY OUT IN A HURRY. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED ON NUMEROUS BMW CAR CLUB SITES AND THERE IS REALLY NO QUICK FIX BUT TO REPLACE DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR OR FUSES. AFTER PUTTING THE CAR IN REVERSE AND MOVING TO REVERSE INTO A PARKING SPACE THERE IS A "CLUNK" LIKE HEAVY LUGGAGE THAT FALLS IN THE BACK OF THE CAR / OR THAT YOU HAVE BANGED INTO AN OBSTRUCTION IN THE ROAD. (NOTICEABLY GETTING WORSE). TOOK IT TO THE DEALER FOR INVESTIGATION AND RESOLUTION. 1) THEY DECIDED IT WAS THE REAR DIFF AND REPLACED IT. TOOK IT ON A TEST DRIVE AND FOUND THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTED - SO THEY PUT THE ORIGINAL DIFF BACK IN THE CAR. THEN THEY DECIDED AFTER REF TO THE CHIEF TECHNICIAN AND CHECKING IN GERMANY - IT WAS THE DRIVE SHAFT. THEY SAID THERE WAS NO DANGER, SO THEY ORDERED THE REPLACEMENT DRIVE SHAFT 2) THEY INSTALLED THE NEW DRIVE SHAFT THREE WEEKS LATER. THE PROBLEM REMAINED. THEY DECIDED IT WAS A NORMAL CONDITION AND SAID THEY TEST DROVE CARS OF SIMILAR AGE/ MILEAGE AND SAID THE NOISE WAS ACCEPTABLE. I DISAGREED. 3) MADE ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE NATIONAL TECHNICIAN TO ASSESS (OCT 15, 2008) - HE SAID THE SAME OUTCOME. NORMAL CONDITION, ACCEPTABLE NOISE LEVEL FOR AGE / MILEAGE OF THE CAR. I DISAGREED. 4)I CALLED BMW CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEY SAID AFTER GETTING A REPORT AND FEEDBACK FROM THE DEALER (OCT 20, 2008) THAT A FURTHER OPINION IN ANOTHER DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT CHANGE THE STATUS OF THE ANALYSIS FROM BMW AS THE NATIONAL TECHNICIAN HAD ASSESSED THE FINAL OUTCOME. GAS DOOR OF THE 2007 BMW 328XI (AND OTHERS) CAN BECOME OPEN & EJECTED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, OR DURING CAR WASH. THE DOOR UNLOCKS & CAN BE OPENED WHEN FORCE IS APPLIED IF BOTH CAR DOORS ARE UNLOCKED. IF ENOUGH FORCE (LATERAL) IS GENERATED DURING A WASH, OR AT HIGHWAY SPEED, THE DOOR CAN BECOME EJECTED DUE TO BLOWERS (DRYERS) OF CAR WASH. A SIMPLE FUSE FAILURE IN THE AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKING SYSTEM RENDERED THE INSIDE DOOR HANDLES UNUSABLE, EXCEPT FOR ONE, WHOSE ACTUATOR CAUSED THE ORIGINAL ELECTRICAL OVERLOAD. HAD SOMETHING ELSE CAUSED THE FUSE TO FAIL, WE WOULD BE UNABLE TO EGRESS THE VEHICLE EXCEPT THROUGH THE WINDOWS, AND, WITH A COMPLETE ELECTRICAL FAILURE THAT ALSO WOULD HAVE BEEN IMPOSSIBLE. THE BMW TECH PEOPLE TELL ME THAT THE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED THAT WAY. I FEEL THAT IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD. *TR

THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE COMPUTER WOULD HAVE TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED AFTER THE COMPUTER WAS REPROGRAMMED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER A SECOND TIME FOR DIAGNOSTICS BUT THE TECHNICIANS WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,000.
TL*THE CONTACT LEASED A 2007 BMW 335I. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DOORS WOULD NOT OPEN FROM THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT NOR THE EXTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. HE WAS FINALLY ABLE TO OPEN THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR MANUALLY WITH THE PHYSICAL KEY. NONE OF THE OTHER DOORS ON THE VEHICLE WOULD UNLOCK OR OPEN, INCLUDING THE GAS TANK COVER THAT WAS POWERED BY A KEYLESS LOCK SENSOR. THE DEALER STATED THAT A FUSE BLEW AND CAUSED ALL THE LOCKS TO FAIL ON THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 18,000. UPDATED 10/14/08. *LJ UPDATED 10/16/08. *JB
MY 2007 BMW 335 SEDAN WAS RECENTLY UPDATED WITH A NEW ECU SOFTWARE UPDATE (REFERRED TO AS PROGMAN 29.2) AND SINCE THEN THE RESPONSE HAS BECOME UNPREDICTABLE. PARTICULARLY THE CAR HAD NO TURBO LAG EARLIER AND AFTER THE UPDATE THE TURBO LAG HAS BECOME VERY PERCEPTIBLE. THIS HAS MADE HIGHWAY PASSING UNSAFE BECAUSE THE CAR DOES NOT BEHAVE CONSISTENTLY AND SOMETIMES WILL HESITATE FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN SURGE VERY QUICKLY AND AT OTHER TIMES DRIVE NORMALLY. THE UNPREDICTABILITY AND TURBO LAG MAKES HIGHWAY PASSING QUITE UNSAFE ESPECIALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND GIVEN THE AMOUNT OF TORQUE IN THE CAR (SURGES ARE TOUGH TO ANTICIPATE). BMW DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM AND WILL NOT EVEN DO ANY TESTS ON THE CAR. THEY HAVE BEEN SENDING ME IN CIRCLES BETWEEN THEIR NA OFFICE AND LOCAL DEALER. *TR
MY PREVIOUS CAR WAS A 2007 BMW 335I COUPE. AFTER A COUPLE OF MONTHS OF OWNING THE CAR, THE CAR WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A FAULTY FUEL PUMP. SUBSEQUENTLY, I PURCHASED A 2008 335I CONVERTIBLE. AFTER DRIVING THE CAR FOR A COUPLE OF THOUSAND MILES, THE CAR STARTED SHOWING SIGNS OF A FAULTY FUEL PUMP (LONG CRANK TIMES). YESTERDAY, THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION LIGHT CAME ON AND THE ISSUE WAS DETERMINED TO BE THAT OF THE FAULTY FUEL PUMP. AT THIS POINT, THE CAR WENT INTO LIMP MODE WITH REDUCED POWER. ADDITIONALLY, THERE WAS SHAKING AND THE CAR WAS MISFIRING AND RUNNING VERY ROUGH. THIS IS CLEARLY A HUGE DEFECT WITH THE 335I ENGINES. IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD SHOULD THE FUEL PUMP BREAK WHILE THE CAR IS ON A HIGHWAY, OR IN A DESERTED LOCATION WITH NO ACCESS TO A REPAIR SHOP. I WOULD APPRECIATE IF THIS ISSUE IS GIVEN THE SERIOUSNESS THAT IT DESERVES. *TR
STARTED MY CAR IN THE MORNING IN ABOUT 400 FEET AFTER CHANGING TO 2ND GEAR AND THE CLUTCH FULLY ENGAGED DROVE 20 FEET AND THE CAR BUCKED. NO ENGINE FAULT LIGHTS LIT. DROVE TO WORK. AT LUNCH TIME STARTED THE CAR AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS LIT ANYTHING ABOUT 1/4 THROTTLE THE CAR WOULD BOG DOWN AND SLOW DOWN. MAXIMUM SPEED WAS AROUND 45MPH WITH VERY LITTLE ACCELERATION. UPON RESTART THE CAR WAS RUNNING WITHOUT THE ENGINE LIGHT AND PERFORMANCE RETURNED. I'M CONCERNED THIS COULD HAPPEN AT ANY MOMENT SUCH AS MERGING ONTO THE HIGHWAY. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN WHEN I HAVE MY FAMILY IN THE CAR. CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THEY INSPECTED THE CAR THE NEXT DAY. THEY FOUND THE HPFP TO BE FAULTY AND REPLACED IT. *TR
