TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 BMW 328I. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V071000 (AIR BAGS). THE PARTS TO DO THE REPAIR WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT CALLED A LOCAL DEALER (SANTA MONICA BMW 1127 SANTA MONICA BLVD, SANTA MONICA, CA 90401 (310) 829-3535) AND WAS INFORMED THAT PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE, AND THAT HIS NAME WOULD BE PLACED ON A WAITING LIST. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE LOCAL DEALER HAD NOT RETURNED HIS CALL IN SEVERAL WEEKS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. STEERING WHEEL LOCK CAUSING THE CAR NOT TO START,
THE FRONT PASSENGER OCCUPANCY SENSOR IN THE SEAT MAT HAS MALFUNCTIONED WHICH PRODUCES A FAULT IN THE PASSIVE RESTRAINT SYSTEM PREVENTING THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG FROM DEPLOYING IN AN EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. THIS MALFUNCTION OCCURS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY, IN MOTION, ON A CITY STREET, ON A HIGHWAY, AND WHEN TURNING. THERE IS NO DAMAGE OR EXCESSIVE WEAR AND TEAR TO THE PASSENGER SEAT. THE PASSENGER SEAT WAS USED NORMALLY AND AS INTENDED BY THE MANUFACTURER. I BELIEVE THE SEAT MAT WAS NOT DESIGNED TO WITHSTAND NORMAL USAGE OF PEOPLE SITTING ON IT. OVER TIME THE SENSOR IN THE SEAT MAT FAILED AND POSES A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE FOR THE VEHICLE'S FRONT PASSENGER SINCE THE AIR BAG MAY NOT DEPLOY DURING A COLLISION.

I RECIEVED AN ERROR MESSAGE WHILE DRIVING A RED STEERING WHEEL WITH A PADOCK WITH THE FEAR OF SOMETHING HAPPENING AS I HAD MY UNDERAGE SON IN THE CAR DECIDED TO STOP AND CHECK THE CODE WHICH READ CCID 186 AFTER RESEARCHING AND FINDING OUT THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THE 3 SERIES I AM VERY DISSAPOINTED WITH THE AMMOUNT OF CLAIMS THIS SHOULD BE COVERED BY BMW AS IT IS OVER 1.5K TO FIX OUT OF WARRANTY .
THE ELECTRONIC STEERING WHEEL IS MALFUNCTIONING AND PREVENTING THE CAR FROM STARTING.
110000 MILES. 2007 BMW 328I. STERRING WHEEL LOCK FAULT. CAR WILL NOT START AND WHEEL WILL NOT TURN. THIS IS A "COMMON" ISSUE WITH THIS CAR. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUE.
TAKATA RECALL: PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG DEFECT. MESSAGE THAT COMES ON WHEN ENGINE FIRST TURNED ON AND STATIONARY, READS: "FAULT IN PASSENGER-RESTRAINT SYSTEM AFFECTING AIR BAG, BELT TENSION OR BELT FORCE LIMITER. CONTINUE TO WEAR SEAT BELT." HOWEVER, THIS CAR NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL WHEN I CHECK LICENSE NUMBER.
The contact owns a 2007 BMW 328i. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50- 55 mph, the vehicle caught fire. There was an abnormal burning odor detected. There were no warning lights illuminated. The driver was able to use her fire extinguisher and extinguish the fire. There were no reported injuries, police reports filed, or air bag deployments. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who informed her that the battery pack wiring had melted. and the PCV and wiring needed to be repaired. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where an unknown diagnosis regarding the electrical panel was provided. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 149, 000.
VEHICLE HAS 2 INCOMPLETE RECALLS, NO ACCIDENTS I AM REPORTING THAT I WAS NEVER CONTACTED
I WAS OUT WITH MY KIDS AND WENT TO PARK AT THE RESTAURANT AND WHEN I TURNED OFF MY CAR A STEERING WHEEL LOCK SIGN IN RED POPPED UP ON THE DASH. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I HAD SEEN THIS, SO I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AND KEPT FLASHING. I TOOK THE MANUEL OUT TO SEE WHAT THIS WAS AND IT WAS THE STEERING WHEEL LOCK. WELL I FIGURED OK I WILL READ MORE ABOUT IT AFTER I HAD DINNER WITH MY KIDS. I HAD FORGOTTEN ABOUT IT AFTER DINNER SO I GET IN MY CAR JUST LIKE NORMAL AND THEN I SEE THE RED SIGN STILL. WENT HOME AND THE LIGHT IS STILL ON. I HAD BEEN SEARCHING FOR THIS ONLINE AND I HAVE SEEN SO MANY OTHER PEOPLE WITH THIS PROBLEM. I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR NOW SINCE IT'S WHAT I USE TO TAKE MY KIDS TO SCHOOL AND PICK THEM UP. I JUST HOPE THE DEALER CAN FIX THIS SINCE THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE SEEN IT. IT NEVER EVEN WENT FROM YELLOW TO RED IT WAS JUST RED.
WHEN I TRIED TO CLOSE MY SUNROOF, IT WOULD NOT CLOSE DESPITE TRYING TO RESET IT, SO I TOOK IT IN TO A MECHANIC. THEY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG UNTIL THEY LOOKED AND THE SUNROOF MOTOR BLEW A FUSE. THEY REPLACED THE FUSE, TRIED IT AGAIN, AND THE MOTOR BLEW THE FUSE AGAIN. SO THE SUNROOF MOTOR HAS A FAULT. I HEARD RECENTLY THAT BMWS ARE SPONTANEOUSLY COMBUSTING AND THAT WE SHOULD REPORT ANY UNUSUAL THINGS, SO I'M REPORTING THIS. ENGINE OIL LEAK.( GASKET, VALVE) THE DEALER STATES CAR IS LEAKING ENGINE OIL FROM ALL TYPE OF GASKETS AND ASKING $2800 FOR FIX(ACTUALLY REPLACEMENT). THIS CAR WAS WELL MAINTAINED AND SERVICED.ALSO, OWNER NEVER TOUCH BENEATH ENGINE. BMW SHOULD FIX OR RECALL THIS. THE LEAK MIGHT CREATE FIRE AS PER BMW DEALER AND CERTIFIED SERVICE CENTER.
TAKATA RECALL. I RECEIVED AN IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL - FINAL REMEDY AVAILABLE NOTICE FROM BMW, RECALL CAMPAIGN NO. 16V-071. IT STATES: WE ARE PLEASED TO INFORM YOU THAT WE HAVE THE NECESSARY PARTS TO COMPLETE THIS RECALL. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR AUTHORIZED BMW CENTER IMMEDIATELY TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THIS IMPORTANT FREE REPAIR PERFORMED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. SO I CALLED ADVANTAGE BMW MIDTOWN IN HOUSTON, TX, AND ALL THE LADY COULD DO IS PUT MY NAME ON A CALL BACK LIST WITHOUT A TIMEFRAME FOR A RETURN CALL. WHEN I COMPLAINED THAT THIS WAS UNACCEPTABLE, SHE PUT ME IN TOUCH WITH A BMW CUSTOMER RELATIONS REP. I EXPLAINED TO THE LADY AT ADVANTAGE BMW AND BMW USA THAT THE NOTICE STATES: IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH NECESSITATING DEPLOYMENT OF THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG, EXCESSIVE INTERNAL PRESSURE COULD CAUSE RUPTURING OF THE AIR BAG INFLATOR, RESULTING IN METAL FRAGMENTS STRIKING THE DRIVER OR OTHER PASSENGERS POTENTIALLY RESULTING IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. IF YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY DRIVER OF THIS VECHILE, PLEASE ADVISE ALL OTHER DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS OF THIS IMPORTANT INFORMATION. ALL THE BMW CUSTOMER CARE REP COULD DO IS MAKE SURE THAT MY NAME WAS ON THE CALL BACK LIST AS WELL. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY BMW AND IT'S AUTHORIZED DEALER CAN NOT SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE REQUIRED REPAIRS. BMW'S LETTER STATES THAT THE PARTS ARE AVAILABLE AND IT IS AN IMPORTANT RECALL THAT IF THE AIR BAG IS DEPLOYED IT CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY AND/OR DEATH. WHAT IS GOING ON WITH BMW AND IT'S DEALERS? I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THEY DO NOT TAKE CARE OF SUCH AN IMPORTANT RECALL IMMEDIATELY LIKE THE RECALL NOTICE STATES. IF BMW IS THE "ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINE"? WHY DOESN'T BMW FIX THE VEHICLE THAT CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY AND/OR DEATH? THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!
I'M HAVING TROUBLE WITH MY SENSOR SYSTEMS. NOT ABLE TO PASS SMOG. ALSO MY DOOR HANDLES HAVE MELTED FROM SOME HEAT WHEN MY CAR IS EXTREMELY HOT. THESE ARE SOME OF THE OTHER PROBLEMS I'M HAVING.
I OPENED THE DOOR AND PUT KEY IN, EVERY THING LOOKSED GOOD. BUT I PUSHED START BUTTON, IT COULD NOT START. THEN ALL POWER WENT DOWN: NO LOCK/UNLOCK, NO RADIO, NO LIGHT. YET AFTER SOME TIME, THE POWER WENT BACK AND I COULD START. THIS HAPPENED MANY TIMES. I FOUND MANY 2007 BMW 328I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. IT'S RELATED TO THE B+ WIRE CONTACT ISSUE. BMW HAS A RECALL FOR THAT ISSUE: THERE IS A TSB FOR THIS E90 WONT START - SI B61 08 11
I HAVE A 2007 BMW 328I. IN 2010, I GOT IN THE VEHICLE AND THERE WAS A STEERING WHEEL LOCK WARNING ON THE DASH. CAR WILL NOT EVEN TURN OVER...EVERYTHING IS LOCKED UP.. TOLD THAT THE WHOLE STEERING COLUMN WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED ($1500). ACCORDING TO MANY REFERENCES, THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND BMW IS AWARE OF IT. ALSO, ACCORDING TO SEVERAL REFERENCES, THERE IS NO WARNING OR PREDICTION WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL LOCK WILL FAIL IN THE LOCKED POSITION. IF YOU ARE FIRST GETTING INTO THE VEHICLE AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCK HAS FAILED IN THE LOCKED POSITION, IT WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO START THE ENGINE. THE QUESTION THAT I HAVE IS WHETHER THE STEERING WHEEL LOCK CAN FAIL IN THE LOCKED POSITION WHILE THE VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN. APPARENTLY, THIS QUESTION HAS BEEN RAISED BY NUMEROUS PEOPLE. I HAVE ASKED THIS QUESTION TO THE DEALERSHIP AS WELL AS SEVERAL BMW WEBSITES. THE RESULTS ARE, THEY DON'T KNOW OR THE ANSWERS HAVE BEEN INCONSISTENT AND OFTEN CONTRADICTORY. ASIDE FROM THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM BEING FAR TOO FREQUENT TO IGNORE BY BMW, THIS APPEARS TO BE A VERY REAL SAFETY CONCERN. BMW CONTINUES TO IGNORE THIS PROBLEM.
WHEN TURN IN ON THE CAR THE AIR BAG LIGHT AND SEAT BELT LIGHT WHEN ON AT THE SAME TIME
THE ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUTS DOWN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHEN BRAKING OR ACCELERATING MODERATELY HARD, WHICH IN TURN SHUTS DOWN POWER STEERING AND PROBABLY THE POWER BRAKES!!! THIS HAS HAPPENED FOUR TIMES. FOR EACH OF THESE EVENTS, I WAS DRIVING THE CAR NORMALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS FOR AN EXTENDED TIME, PROBABLY LONGER THAN TWO HOURS. IN ONE INCIDENT ON APRIL 12, 2017, THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN WHEN I QUICKLY ACCELERATED TO ALLOW FOR SAFE TRAFFIC FLOW INVOLVING A TRACTOR TRAILER. ANOTHER INCIDENT ON SAME DAY INVOLVED MODERATELY HARD BRAKING AS I APPROACHED STALLED TRAFFIC ON THE TAPPAN ZEE BRIDGE. I WAS IN THE LEFT LANE AND THE ROAD DID NOT HAVE A SHOULDER. THIS CREATED A SERIOUS HAZARD WITH HEAVY TRAFFIC. A THIRD INCIDENT ON THE SAME DAY OCCURRED DURING MODERATELY HARD BRAKING AS I APPROACHED A TOLL BOOTH. LOSS OF POWER STEERING (AND PROBABLY POWER BRAKES) CREATED A SERIOUS HAZARD. A FOURTH INCIDENT OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 18 MONTHS EARLIER WHEN I BRAKED MODERATELY HARD WHILE EXITING FOR A REST STOP. LOSS OF POWER STEERING (AND PROBABLY POWER BRAKES) CREATED A SERIOUS HAZARD. IN THE RECENT THREE EVENTS, THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT TURNED ON. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT RESTART IMMEDIATELY. AFTER LESS THAN A MINUTE, THE VEHICLE RESTARTED, DROVE NORMALLY, AND THE INDICATOR LIGHT TURNED OFF. IN THE EVENT WITH ACCELERATION, THE ENGINE WOULD NOT RESTART EASILY FOR 15-30 MINUTES; EVENTUALLY IT RESTARTED AND DROVE NORMALLY. DURING THE 15-30 MINUTES, THE ENGINE SPUTTERED, BUCKED, AND SHUT DOWN REPEATEDLY. I REPORTED THIS ISSUE TO THE BMW DEALER AFTER THE FIRST EVENT AND THEY SAID THE ONLY POTENTIAL CAUSE WAS WATER PUMP SPEED DEVIATION. I REPLACED WATER PUMP IN MAY 2016 AS THEY RECOMMENDED.
THE WIRING INSIDE THE HEADLIGHT HOUSING IS DETERIORATING. THE PLASTIC SHEATHING HAS BECOME BRITTLE FROM THE HEAT, AND IS FALLING APART, EXPOSING THE CONDUCTOR. THIS IS CREATING THE RISK OF AN ELECTRICAL FIRE OR DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM.
STEERING WHEEL LOCK (RED SYMBOL ON THE NOTIFICATION SCREEN). VEHICLECLE WILL NO LONGER START. NOTHING SEEMS TO WORK.
TAKATA RECALL I HAVE A BMW 2007 328XI WHICH IS 10 YEARS OLD AND I LIVE IN A HIGH ABSOLUTE HUMIDITY STATE. BASED ON THE RISK FACTORS OF THE DEGRADATION FOR THIS AIRBAG MY AIRBAG HAS NOW DEGRADED WELL BEYOND SAFETY LEVELS AND YET I HAVE STILL NOT YET RECEIVED MY LETTER TELLING ME THAT I CAN TAKE MY CAR IN TO HAVE THIS DANGEROUS AND LIFE THREATENING SITUATION RESOLVED AND THE RECALL TAKEN CARE OF. THIS IS AN UNACCEPTABLE SITUATION AND IF BMW IS UNABLE TO PROVIDE AN IMMEDIATE REMEDY THEY SHOULD BUY BACK THE CAR IMMEDIATELY SO THAT MY LIFE AND THE LIFE OF WIFE WHO DRIVES MY CAR IS NO LONGER IN DANGER EVERY DAY. I NO LONGER WANT TO PUT MY LIFE OR MY WIFE'S LIFE IN DANGER BECAUSE BMW HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO RESOLVE THIS LIFE THREATENING PROBLEM.

OIL LEAKS IN THE MOTOR WHEN PARKED. GRINDING OR KNOCKING SOUND COMING FROM THE LOWER PART OF THE REAR SUSPENSION ONLY WHEN MOVING IN REVERSE.

PLASTIC INSULATION HAS CRACKED AND PEELED ON ALL WIRING INSIDE MY FRONT HEADLIGHT HOUSINGS. EXPOSED WIRING CREATES A POTENTIAL SHORT CIRCUIT AND FIRE HAZARD.
THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY, BEFORE I STARTED VEHICLE I NOTICED A RED STEERING WHEEL LOCK LIGHT ON MY DASHBOARD, I TRIED TO TURN VEHICLE ON AND UNFORPTUNATELY MY CAR WON'T START.

DURING NORMAL CRUISE, THE YELLOW STEERING LOCK APPEARED RANDOMLY ONCE....PULLING IN TO THE DRIVEWAY OF MY HOME THE STEERING LOCKED IN A FIX POSITION. I WAS GOING LESS THAN 5 MPH, MAINTAIN CONTROL BUT ALMOST IMPACTED MY HOME. IN DOING RESEARCH ON THIS FAULT, THERE ARE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE RANDOM RESULTS OF STEERING WHEEL LOCK ON BMW VEHICLES. I BELIEVE THAT IF I WAS NOT BEHIND THE WHEEL OF THIS CAR, IT COULD HAVE HAD VERY NEGATIVE RESULTS ( IF MY WIFE OR DAUGHTER WERE DRIVING-AND COULD HAVE CAUSE INJURY TO OTHERS OR PROPERTY). BMW NEEDS TO TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THESE FAULTS THAT HAVE THE POTENCIAL TO LOOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WHILE IN MOTION, AND WHEN NOT IN MOTION THE RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF CHARGES THE COMPANY WANTS TO PASS TO CONSUMERS FOR A POTENTIAL FAULTY DESIGN OR QUALITY DEFICIENCY THAT CAN CAUSE INJURY OR WORSE.
SINCE I GOT THIS CAR MY OIL WAS LEAKING. I HAD TO REPLACE THE VAL COVER. I CAN'T REMEMBER HOW MUCH THAT COST ME. MY STEERING LOCK MODULE WAS REPLACED AND IT COST ME 1,181.07. I HAD MY BELT TENSIONER REPLACED BECAUSE IT WAS BENT. IT COST ME $327.04. THIS WAS DONE 3/6/2015. A RECALL ON SRS AIR BAG. I STILL HAVE THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT. BMW RECOMMENDED TO REPLACE OF EXHAUST LIFTERS AND ROLLER DRAG LEVERS WITH UPDATED UNIT TO ELIMINATE TICKING NOISE AT IDLE WHICH WILL COST ME 1,466.40. I NEED TO REPLACE ALTERNATOR, BELT, BATTERY AND THE CAR WON'T START. I FIXED THE BATTERY PROBLEM AND AS I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AND PARKED THE CAR WOULD NOT START. MY BATTERY CONNECTION NEED TO BE REPLACE. COMMON ISSUE WITH ALL BMW. I WILL SPEND ABOUT 1,518.7 TO FIX THE PROBLEM.
I HAD THE RED STEERING WHEEL LOCK ON MY CAR ABOUT 2 WEEK AGO. I BEEN DRIVING WITH IT ON FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS, BECAUSE I WAS NOT ABLE TO GET INTO THE DEALER. IT ALWAYS STARTED FOR ME, BUT I FEEL MY STEERING GETTING HARD. AND I SEE ON BMW FORM THAT CAR NEED TO GET REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN. AND MY CAR ISN'T COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, AND WOULD HAVE COST ABOUT 1K OTHERWISE. AND I SEE A LOT OF CARS WITH THIS PROBLEM.
THE ELECTRICAL IS THE MAIN ISSUE. NOTHING STARS. THE CAR DON'T TURN ON, WON'T EVEN LOCK AND IT RANDOM HAPPENED. I WENT TO WORK AND IT SEEMED LIKE EVERYTHING WAS FINE BUT WHEN I CLOCKED OUT .. MY CAR WOULDN'T EVEN START. I CHECK MY BATTERY & IT WAS FINE. THEN I CHECKED ONLINE & I NOTICED THAT I WASN'T EVEN THE ONLY PERSON DEALING WITH THIS ISSUE.
THE CAR HAS HAD NUMEROUS ISSUES SINCE PURCHASED. THIS ALL CAME TO A HEAD WHEN DRIVING HOME, UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS, IT SUDDENLY WOULD NOT SHIFT PAST 1ST GEAR. I PROCEEDED TO PULL OFF TO A SIDE STREET AND ATTEMPT TO IDLE HOME, AS I WAS ABOUT 1 MILE FROM HOME. AFTER APPROXIMATELY .5 MILE, THE TRANSMISSION SUDDENLY LOST FIRST GEAR, THERE WAS AN AUDIBLE BANG UNDER THE HOOD, AND THE CAR COMPLETELY LOST POWER. AFTER BEING IN A SERVICE CENTER FOR A COUPLE WEEKS, I AM NOW INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE IS LOCKED DOWN AND THAT THE CAR WILL REQUIRE A NEW ENGINE TO BE WORKING AGAIN. THIS CAR HAD BEEN AN ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE AND HAS TURNED ME QUITE CALLOUSED TOWARDS BMWS QUALITY STANDARDS.

RECEIVED ORIGINAL NOTICE FOR RECALL. CALLED TWO DIFFERENT BMW DEALERS IN GEORGIA AREA. BOTH TOLD ME THEY WOULD CONTACT ME ONCE THE PART(S) CAME IN. FOLLOWED UP AND WAITED OVER 6-8 MONTHS. RECEIVED ANOTHER RECALL NOTICE. FILED COMPLAINT

IN ADDITION, WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE CONTACT'S DRIVEWAY, A LOUD ABNORMAL SOUND WAS HEARD AND THE CONTACT NOTICED FLAMES AROUND THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND FILED A REPORT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.

PASSENGER AIRBAG RESTRAINT FAILURE - BMW'S, IN PARTICULAR 3 SERIES AND E90 MODELS, HAVE A KNOWN AND COMMON FAILURE WHERE THE SEAT BASED ELECTRICAL MAT FAILS IN THE PASSENGER SEATS. THIS IS NOT RELATED TO WEAR AND TEAR AS THE SEATS OFTEN GO UNUSED BUT SIMPLY FAIL AFTER A CERTAIN PERIOD OF TIME. THE ERROR CAUSES THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG TO DEFAULT TO ALWAYS ON, WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURY OR DEATH TO CHILDREN OR SMALL PASSENGERS IN THAT SEAT. THE COST TO REPAIR THIS IS USUALLY $200 FOR PARTS AND $400 FOR LABOR WHICH MEANS MANY DRIVERS SIMPLY DON'T FIX IT CREATING A VULNERABILITY. THE ISSUE HAS BEEN RECURRING WITH BMWS FOR SEVERAL GENERATIONS AND ACROSS MODEL TYPES AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY THE MANUFACTURER AS ITS A POORLY MADE PART AND SET UP. FOR OVER A YEAR NOW THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD HAS BEEN GOING ON AND OFF. ORIGINALLY, IT WAS ONLY TURNING ON WHEN I HAD A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT SEAT. NOW IT TURNS ON WITH OR WITHOUT A PERSON SO I'M STARTING TO THINK THAT THE DRIVERS SIDE IS MALFUNCTIONING TOO. IN ADDITIONAL THE SEATBELT LIGHT IS TURNING ON TOO NOW. THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING. I TALKED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY INDICATED THAT IT IS THE AIRBAG AND SEAT SENSORS THAT HAVE MALFUNCTIONED. EACH TO FIX IS OVER $500. THEY ALSO INDICATED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR OWNERS AND TO WAIT FOR A SUPPOSABLY RECALL LETTER. HOWEVER, THAT WAS A YEAR AGO AND I NOW HAVE THE AIRBAG AND SEATBELT LIGHT GOING OFF. I'VE ALSO COME ACROSS MANY BMW FORUMS (OWNERS) TALKING ABOUT THEIR FRUSTRATION WITH THESE SAME ISSUES. IT'S SURPRISING THAT THE DEALERSHIPS ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE BUT YET NOTHING IS BEING RESOLVED. THERE HAS TO BE A REMEDY FOR THIS ANNOYANCE AND LACK OF ACKNOWLEDGEMENT BY BMW. IF ANYTHING THERE HAS TO BE SOME REPERCUSSIONS ON BMW'S PART SINCE THE CONSUMERS ARE HAVING TO DEAL WITH THESE PROBLEM FOR WHAT SEEMS TO BE YEARS NOW.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED TO NHTSA. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 110,000.
