OUT OF NO WHERE THE CAR DIDN'T WANT TO START UP ANY MORE. IT WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS THE BATTERY BUT IT WASN'T. I HAD IT CHECKED OUT AND THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHY IT COULDN'T START. I CHECKED ONLINE AND THEN I NOTICED THAT THERE'S BEEN A RECALL FOR 3 SERIES BMW DUE TO ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS AND I NOTICED THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE WERE IN MY SHOES.
IN DECEMBER OF 2016, MY CAR STARTED BLOWING A BURNING SMELL THROUGH THE AIR VENTS, WHILE I WAS DRIVING THROUGH A NEIGHBORHOOD. I PARKED MY CAR AND TURNED IT OFF IN A MEDIAN AREA AND THEN I TURNED OFF THE AC AND WHITE SMOKE STARTED BILLOWING OUT OF THE VENTS. IT WAS ELECTRICAL WIRES CATCHING FIRE. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE MECHANIC AND HE SAID IT WAS THE BLOWER MOTOR AND BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR THAT NEEDING REPLACING. THE WIRE CONNECTIONS DETERIORATED, MELTED, AND OVERHEATED, CATCHING FIRE. THE COST OF THIS REPLACEMENT WAS $573.60 OUT OF POCKET. I CHECKED A RECALL WEBSITE AND NOTICED THAT A SAFETY RECALL FOR THESE PARTS WERE LISTED IN OCTOBER OF 2017, WITH EXACT DESCRIPTION OF MY PROBLEM THAT OCCURRED IN DECEMBER 2016. I WOULD APPRECIATE A REIMBURSEMENT ON THIS REPAIR AS THIS RECALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN FOUND MUCH SOONER.
BATTERY DIED. GOT A CHARGE AND RED STEERING LIGHT WITH A LOCK TURNED ON. LOCKED STEERING AND UNABLE TO START CAR AFTER CHARGING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 BMW 328XI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED FOR APPROXIMATELY THREE MONTHS. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE MAT SENSOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT SEAT FAILED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
WHILE I'M DRIVING IT POPPED UP A RED STEERING WHEEL/PADLOCK SYMBOL AT THE MESSAGE CENTER, STILL DRIVES WITH NO ISSUES. I'M CONCERNED IF IT IS SAFE TO DRIVE BACK HOME, IT'S ABOUT ONE HOUR DRIVE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 BMW 328I. UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE UNDER THE HOOD. THE CONTACT TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. THE SMOKE CLEARED AND HE CONTINUED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. INTERMITTENTLY, THE CONTACT DETECTED A BURNING PLASTIC ODOR COMING FROM THE VENTS. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC OR DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR AGO, THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE SHOOK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START AND WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A STARTER, VALVE COVER, AND IGNITION MALFUNCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117,000.
I HAVE HAD A MAJOR FIRE ON MY CAR DUE TO AN OIL LEAK COMING FROM MY VALVE COVER. I HAVE BEEN READING ON THE INTERNET THAT THERE HAS BEEN ALOT OF COMPLAINTS WITH THIS ISSUE INVOLVING VALVE COVER LEAKING OIL ON THE EXHAUST AND CREATING A FIRE ON THE CAR. I WAS DRIVING WHEN MY ENGINE STARTED TO SMOKE AND A FIRE HAPPEN. THIS HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR
VALVE COVER OIL LEAKING ONTO EXHAUST MANIFOLD THAT CAUSES FIRE. IT WAS TURNED OFF AND STATIONARY. ASKED BMW TO CHANGE IN 80K BUT THEY SAID JUST SWEATING OIL. SAFETY HAZARD IGNORED. COMMON AMOUNG BMW 3 SERIES ENGINE
WHY DRIVING MY CAR IT SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND STOPPED. I HAD TO MANEUVER MY CAR OFF THE ROAD AND RESTART IT. IT STARTED BACK UP IMMEDIATELY BUT I DROVE MAYBE ANOTHER MILE AND IT DID THE SAME THING. I PANICKED TURNED AROUND AND DROVE BACK HOME. I WILL.BE AT THE DEALERSHIP IN MONTGOMERY, AL FIRST THING MONDAY MORNING 10/31/2016.
WHEEL STERRING LOCK MALFUNCTION, ESSENTIALLY THERE STEERING NO LONGER WORKS AND CAR SHUTS DOWN.
I WAS TURNING ON TO A HIGHWAY, AS I ACCELERATED TO MATCH THE SPEED OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND MERGE, THE ENGINE POWER ABRUPTLY DEGRADED. I HAD TO SWERVE OUT OF THE LANE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE HAD A FLASHING SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT AND WAS NOT PRODUCING ANY POWER. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO PARK AVE. BMW IN NJ. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED MY VEHICLE WITH A FAILED DME (ENGINE MANAGEMENT COMPUTER OR ECU) AT LESS THAN 60K. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I FOUND MANY OTHERS BMW N54 ENGINE OWNERS ONLINE WHO HAD ENCOUNTERED THE SAME DME FAILURE. IT TURNS OUT AN ELECTRICAL COMPONENT THAT COSTS A COUPLE OF CENTS WAS PREMATURELY FAILING. THIS WAS KNOWN TO BMW IN 2007 WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SOLD. THE BMW SERVICE BUILTIN SI B 12 18 07 CLEARLY INDICATES THAT THIS IS AN UNEXPECTED FAILURE AND IS CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE DIODE. FURTHER MORE THE ISSUE CAN DAMAGE COILS AND FUEL INJECTORS COSTING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. REPLACING COILS, INJECTORS, AND THE DME CAN EXCEED $5000. FURTHER MORE BMW CHOSE NO TO BE PROACTIVE AND REPLACE THE COMPONENT, INSTEAD THEY PUT PEOPLES LIVES AT RISK, AT BEST THEIR BENEFITING FROM THEIR OWN LACK OF QUALITY.
TAKATA RECALL: A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE FROM BMW WAS ISSUED IN MARCH OF 2016. AS OF OCTOBER 11TH, 2016, BMW NORTH AMERICA LLC. STILL CAN NOT PROVIDE AN ESTIMATED TIME OF REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT. THEY HAVE NOT REMEDIED THE SITUATION AT ALL AND WILL NOT OFFER ALTERNATIVE METHODS TO HELP CUSTOMERS WITH THE POTENTIALLY DEATH CAUSING AIRBAG EXPLOSIONS. BMW NORTH AMERICA LLC IS ACTING IN BAD FAITH, ALLOWING AND INSTRUCTING THEIR CUSTOMERS TO CONTINUE DRIVING THEIR VEHICLES WHILE BEING AWARE THAT THEY COULD CAUSE DEATH TO THE DRIVER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V564000 (AIR BAGS). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000.
I WAS TOLD BY BMW CINCINNATI NORTH MY AIR BAG WAS REPLACED OVER 30 DAYS AGO. YOUR DATABASE SHOWS IT WAS NOT. ANOTHER BMW DEALER RECENTLY TOLD ME THAT MY AIR BAG WAS NOT REPLACED. BMW NORTH AMERICA HAS NOT RESPONDED TO REQUESTS FOR CLARIFICATION. THEY SIMPLY STATED, NHTSA RECORDS MAY NOT BE UPDATED YET.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 BMW 328I. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V071000 (AIR BAGS). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SEVERAL DEALERS THROUGHOUT THE REGION AND WAS ADVISED THAT THERE WERE NO PARTS AVAILABLE TO REMEDY THE AIR BAG FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 145,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 BMW 328I. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
ELV ELECTRONIC STEERING LOCK FAULTY RED INDICATOR LAMP: ENGINE WILL NOT START IN JAN 2013 MY CAR (MILEAGE 128,575)WAS REPAIRED BY REEVES BMW IN TAMPA, FL FOR FAULTY STEERING LOCK (A112 CAS ELV FAULT AND A116 CAS CRITICAL STATUS). THEY REPLACED THE STEERING LOCK (STEERING COLUMN) AT COST OF $664.17 PARTS AND $547.88 LABOR = 1212.05 + TAXES. I DIDN'T REALIZE THERE WERE HUNDREDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET FOR THIS SAME ISSUE. NOW ITS 9/29/16 AND I HAVE THE SAME EXACT ISSUE WITH THE LAMP INDICATOR AND MY CAR WILL NOT START. STRANDED OVER 1 HOUR FROM MY HOME. BMW PARTS HAVE A WARRANTY OF 2 YEARS, SO THERE IS NOTHING THAT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WILL DO. I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE SAME REPAIR ALL OVER AGAIN, PLUS THE COST OF A TOW. HOW IS THIS ETHICAL OR EVEN SAFE? WITH ALL THE COMPLAINTS FOR THIS BMW ELV ISSUE, THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL BY BMW. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE TO HOLD BMW ACCOUNTABLE FOR THESE REPAIRS. OBVIOUSLY, THERE MUST BE A MATERIAL DEFECT AND/OR DESIGN FLAW WHERE THIS KEEPS HAPPENING TO HUNDREDS OF OWNERS AND ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS.
TAKATA RECALL DEALERSHIP WILL NOT PERFORM RECALL, GIVES MISLEADING INFORMATION, AND CONTRADICTS INFORMATION FROM BMW USA. ADVANTAGE BMW (MID-TOWN) 2101 SAN JACINTO ST HOUSTON, TX I ORIGINALLY CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP IN MARCH 2016 REGARDING THE TAKATA AIRBAG RECALL AND WAS TOLD THAT NO PARTS/FIX WAS AVAILABLE AND I WOULD BE CONTACTED SHORTLY WHEN MY CAR COULD BE SCHEDULED FOR AN APPOINTMENT. I FOLLOWED UP WITH THEM ON MAY 18TH AFTER THEIR WERE MULTIPLE DEATHS IN THE REGION REPORTED AS A RESULT OF THIS ISSUE. SINCE THEN I'VE CONTACTED ADVANTAGE ON 7/11, 7/18, 7/25, AND MULTIPLE TIMES IN AUG/SEP. EACH TIME I WOULD BE "ADDED TO THE LIST FOR THE SERVICE MANAGER" THOUGH EACH TIME THEY CAN'T FIND MY NAME ON THE LIST. I FINALLY CONTACTED BMW USA ABOUT THE PROBLEMS I WAS HAVING AND WAS CONTACTED BY THEM. THEY TOLD ME THEY COULD PROVIDE INTERIM PARTS BUT THAT THIS WOULD CLOSE OUT THE RECALL AND I WOULD BE UNABLE FOR THE FINAL REPAIR. I TOLD THEM THIS WASN'T ACCEPTABLE AND THEY TOLD ME TO REQUEST A LOANER VEHICLE FROM ADVANTAGE BMW. I DID THIS AND IT TOOK A WEEK FOR THE SERVICE DIRECTOR TO GET BACK TO ME AND TOLD ME THAT PARTS WERE AVAILABLE TO COMPLETE THE RECALL. I ASKED IF THESE WERE FINAL OR INTERIM AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD CONTACT BMW USA TO FIND OUT. AFTER NOT HEARING BACK FROM THEM, I CONTACTED BMW USA TO CONFIRM THEY WERE INTERIM, WHICH THEY WERE. WHEN I TOLD THIS TO ADVANTAGE BMW THEY TOLD ME TO COME IN FOR A RENTAL CAR. I CAME IN, WASTING A DAY OF MY TIME, WAS FORCED TO FILL OUT ALL OF THE PAPERWORK AND THEN AT THE LAST MINUTE WAS REFUSED A RENTAL VEHICLE BECAUSE THEY SAID I WAS FORCED TO USE THE INTERIM PARTS. AS A MECHANICAL ENGINEER WHO WORKED FOR YEARS IN THE AUTO INDUSTRY I REALLY DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY FAMILY AROUND IN A BMW. AFTER THE RECENT DEATHS I'M VERY CONCERNED BY THE LACK OF ACTION AND THE RUN-AROUND I AM BEING GIVEN.
RECALL NOTICE WAS RECEIVED IN MARCH 2016. SIX MONTHS LATER AND THE PART IS NOT AVAILABLE TO FIX THE DRIVER'S FRONT AIR BAG.
TAKATA RECALL UPON RECEIVING THE INITIAL LETTER INFORMING ME OF MY CAR HAVING THE TAKATA RECALL EARLIER THIS YEAR (2016), I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR BMW TO INFORM ME WHEN THE PARTS ARE AVAILABLE TO FIX THE ISSUE. IT IS NOW SEPTEMBER, I HAVE CHECKED ONLINE WITH BMW USA AND IT STATED THAT THE REMEDY WAS AVAILABLE. AFTER SEEING ONLINE THAT THE REMEDY WAS AVAILABLE FOR THE OPEN RECALL ON MY VEHICLE I CONTACTED BMW CUSTOMER RELATIONS VIA EMAIL REQUESTING FURTHER INFORMATION ON THIS MATTER ON HOW TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. I DID NOT HEAR ANYTHING BACK FROM THEM. SO I CONTACT THE HOTLINE AND SPOKE WITH A LADY NAMED JESSICA ON 9-20-16, SHE STATED THAT THE WEBSITE WAS GIVING ME WRONG INFORMATION, THAT IN FACT THE PARTS TO FIX MY CAR WERE NOT AVAILABLE AND THAT IT COULD TAKE UP TO DECEMBER OF 2016 BEING THE EARLIEST IT COULD BE FIXED, OR WELL INTO 2017. THE ISSUE IS THAT THIS IS MY ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION, IF I GET INTO A SMALL FENDER BENDER, I COULD POTENTIALLY HAVE MY AIRBAG DEPLOY AND CAUSE SERIOUS HARM OR DEATH UPON ME OR A PASSENGER. I WAS TOLD THE GULF STATES (HIGH HUMMIDTY AREAS) WOULD BE AMONG THE FIRST REGIONS TO HAVE THESE VEHICLES FIXED, I LIVE IN MOBILE, AL. THE RELATIVE HUMIDITY IN MY CITY TYPICALLY RANGES FROM 45% (COMFORTABLE) TO 94% (VERY HUMID) OVER THE COURSE OF THE YEAR, RARELY DROPPING BELOW 23% (DRY) AND REACHING AS HIGH AS 100% (VERY HUMID). ON AVERAGE IT COULD BE AROUND 86% HUMIDITY BY 6 AM AND 56% HUMIDITY BY 3 PM. WE HAVE A WARM HUMID TEMPERATURE CLIMATE WITH VERY HOT SUMMERS AND NO DRY SEASON... WHY HAS MY VEHICLE NOT BEEN FIXED YET WITH ME RESIDING IN A LARGELY KNOWN HUMID CITY? I WAS TOLD BY JESSICA WITH BMW THAT I WOULD BE PUT TO THE TOP OF THE PRIORITY LIST WITHIN THEIR DATABASE FOR MY VEHICLE TO BE FIXED AND THAT A CASE WORKER WOULD FOLLOW UP WITH ME..I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING YET. THIS ISSUE MUST BE FIXED ASAP BEFORE MYSELF OR SOMEONE GETS HURT
I WAS ON A WELL-PAVED ROAD, APPROACHING A HIGHWAY ON-RAMP, TRAVELLING STRAIGHT AT ABOUT 40MPH, AND MY SUNROOF SPONTANEOUSLY EXPLODED. I HAD BEEN ON THE ROAD MAYBE 5 MINUTES, IT WAS SUNNY AND APPROXIMATELY 80 DEGREES OUT, THERE WAS NO SUDDEN CHANGE IN TEMPERATURE AND THERE WAS NO IMPACT FROM FLYING DEBRIS, POT HOLES, OTHER VEHICLES ETC. BOTH MY SUNROOF AND VISOR WERE BOTH CLOSED AT THE TIME. I HEARD AN EXTREMELY LOUD BANG, SIMILAR TO A GUNSHOT BUT NOT AS LOUD, I CHECKED MY MIRRORS AND DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING. I THEN OPENED THE VISOR TO MY SUNROOF AND GLASS RAINED DOWN. I IMMEDIATELY CLOSED MY VISOR AND PROCEEDED TO A SAFE SECTION OF THE ROAD WHERE I CULL PULL OFF AND INSPECT THE EXTERIOR OF MY CAR. FROM THE EXTERIOR, IT LOOKED LIKE AN EXPLOSION HAD OCCURRED INSIDE THE VEHICLE AS THE GLASS WAS ANGLED UP AND OUT, WAS COMPLETELY SHATTERED AND HAD SEVERAL LARGE PIECES MISSING. I FILED A REPORT WITH BMW AS SOON AS THE OFFICES REOPENED AND AM WAITING ON FURTHER INFORMATION. FROM WHAT I CAN SEE, THIS IS NOT THE FIRST INSTANCE OF THIS OCCURRING WITH BMW VEHICLES.

IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT HAD TO EXIT THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000.
GAS GAUGE DOESN'T REGISTER FULL VS. EMPTY TANK. MY GAS GAUGE ALWAYS SAYS EMPTY EVEN RIGHT AFTER I FILL IT UP. SEEMS TO BE A BIGGER ISSUE, PER MY GOOGLE SEARCH AND THINK IT NEEDS A RECALL.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE VALVE COVER GASKET FAILED CAUSING THE ENGINE OIL TO LEAK ON THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER BURNING THE OIL CAUSING THE SMOKE TO BLUR THE WINDSHIELD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000.
TAKATA RECALL: NO PARTS AVAILABLE IN SALT LAKE AFTER ABOUT A YEAR FROM THE FIRST NOTICE RECEIVED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 BMW 335I. WHILE ACCELERATING, THE VEHICLE SHUTTERED AND THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE IDLED ROUGHLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL INJECTORS, SPARK PLUGS, AND IGNITION COIL WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000.
BMW SAID THEY REPLACED AND FIXED THE AIR BAG ISSUE AND BATTERY CABLE (POSITIVE) RECALL. IT'S BEEN OVER 2 WEEKS AND I JUST SEARCHED ON SAFERCAR.GOV AND THEY BOTH STILL SHOW AS OPEN ISSUES. DID BMW LIE?
THE REAR DOORS WON'T LOCK AND THE FRONT DOORS WON'T UNLOCK AND THE GAS LID WON'T OPEN! THIS JUST HAPPENED OUT OF NOWHERE. READ ONLINE BY LOTS OF FOLKS THAT'S IT'S AN DOOR ACTUATOR AND WRONG FUSE. DEALER IS VERY AWARE OF THE DEFECT AND LOTS OF FOLKS HAVING THE SAME DEFECT - IT REALLY SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF BY THE DEALER!
TRANSMISSION SHIFT BADLY - LUNGES FORWARD - TENDES TO STALL -TRAVELING AT LOW SPEEDS GOES IN TO 5 OR 6 GEAR STEP ON GAS PADDLE TAKES TO LONG TO SHIFT DOWN AND JUMPS FORWARD. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING EVEN WHEN THE CAR WAS NEW AND GETTING WORSE AS TIME GOES ON.
THE REAR VIEW MIRROR BALL AND SOCKET JOINT IS LOOSE. THE REAR VIEW MIRROR CAN MOVE OUT OF THE SET POSITION BY ITS OWN WEIGHT, PARTICULARLY WHEN WARM, OR WHEN DRIVING OVER BUMPS. THIS IMPARES THE ABILITY TO USE THE MIRROR WHEN DRIVING.
TAKATA RECALL. IT HAS BEEN 18 MONTHS SINCE WE WERE ADVISED OF RECALL AND THEY STILL DO NOT HAVE CONTACTED USE TO BRING OUR VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIRS.
MY 2007 BMW 328I IS HAVING RED STEERING WHEEL WARNING DISPLAYED ON DASH. I HAVE READ AROUND THE INTERNET AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH BMW. REQUIRES THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN BE REPLACED. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE IF A PERSON NEEDS TO START THE CAR AND IS UNABLE TO START IT BECAUSE OF A FAULTY LATCH AND LEVER. A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH OF "BMW STEERING WHEEL LOCK" BRINGS UP HUNDREDS OF PAGES AND VIDEOS OF PEOPLE HAVING ISSUES WITH THEIR VEHICLES. THE LIGHT ON MY CAR IS A STEERING WHEEL LOCK RED. I CHECKED MY BATTERY AND IT WORKS PERFECTLY FINE. THE PROBLEM IS A FAULTY STEERING LOCK. THE CERTIFIED BMW DEALER THAT SOLD THE VEHICLE SAID THIS IS NORMAL OF BMWS. NORMAL MEANING THEY KNOW IT WILL EVENTUALLY GO BAD AND THE STEERING COLUMN HAS TO BE REPLACE TO CORRECT IT. WHAT, THE STEERING COLUMN HAS TO BE REPLACED. AT SOME POINT THE VEHICLE WILL GO INTO A NO START MODE PER BMW TO PREVENT A STEERING WHEEL LOCK FROM ENGAGING WHILE OPERATING. THIS IS UNETHICAL AND COST THE CONSUMER AROUND 1500 US DOLLARS TO CORRECT.
THE CAR WONT START. IT WAS WORKING JUST FINE IN THE MORNING AND A COUPLE OF HOURS LATER IT DIDN'T START. ALL POWER TURNS ON DASH LIGHTS AND EVEN HEAD LIGHTS TURN ON AND MY BATTERY BOOSTER INDICATES THAT THE BATTERY IS FINE. I TRY TO START IT BUT IT WONT TURN OVER.
BACK WINDOWS(2) ROLLED DOWN WILL NOT COME UP. MOTOR BUZZES AND NOTHING HAPPENS.
STEERING WHEEL LOCK IS ON. IT APPEARS THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE CAR CAN STALL OR IN CASE OF AN ATTACK, A PERSON CANT GET AWAY. I WALKED TO MY VEHICLE ONE DAY AND IT WAS ON, WITH NO WARNING. IT WAS NEVER YELLOW. WENT STRAIGHT TO RED. NEVER SEEN IT BEFORE.
VEHICLE IS LOOSING POWER BETWEEN 45-55 MILES AND STEERING WHEELS BECOMES HARD TO TURN ON 7/1/16 JACKSON,MS ON NORTHVIEW DRIVE, SAME PROBLEM 7/10/17 MOBILE,AL AND 7/16/16 BEACH BLVD. JACKSONVILLE, FL AND ONCE BREAKING AT A STOP (REDLIGHT OR STOP SIGN) IT SHUTS DOWN IN TRAFFIC. CAR MUST BE PUT IN PARK AND CRANKED TO RESTART. ISSUE UNKNOWN AND THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE AND WILL NOT STAY ON IN BIG CONJESTIONS OF TRAFFIC, I AM SCARED OF A CRASH. THERE ARE ALREADY RECALLS ON THIS ISSUE FROM THE NATIONAL DATA BASE.
7/1/16 I PREVIOUSLY SUBMITTED A FORM & COMBINED ALL COMPLAINTS AT ONCE, THE FIRST ISSUE I HAVE HAD WAS RITE AFTER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM A DEALER ON 7/1/16 AND 2 HOURS AT 45MPH ON NORTH VIEW DRIVE JACKSON, MS APPROACHING THE STOP SIGN THE CAR MAD A LOUD NOISE AS IF IT WAS A BUSTED AIR CONDITIONER, NO AC ON , THE CAR STALLED AFTER THE APPROACH OF THE INTERSECTION AND THEN CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON THE DASH, THE STEERING WAS HARD AND THE CAR ROCKED A BIT LIKE IT WAS THE AIR CONDITIONER. I HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND RESTART IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC BUT, IT DID RESTART. CALLED THE DEALER AND ISSUE WAS RESOLVED I THOUGHT, THE CAR HAD BEEN DRIVEN 3 DAYS PRIOR TO TRAVELING FLORIDA AND IT WAS RUNNING OK IN 35MPH ZONES WITH THE AIR ON AND A FEW MOMENTS ON THE HIGHWAY WITH NO PROBLEMS. 7/10 MOBILE,AL I-59S SAME ISSUE HAPPENED AS I APPROACHED AND STAY AT A LIGHT IN A 45MPH ZONE, THE ONLY DIFFERENCE WAS NO LIGHTS ON THE DASH AND NO LAUGH NOISE. 7/16/16 JACKSONVILLE,FL BEACH BLVD. SAME ISSUE AFTER CONSISTINATLY BEING IN A 45 MPH ZONE FOR 25 MIN AND APPROACHING THE SIGNAL LIGHT, ONCE AT A COMPLETE STOP VEHICLE AGAIN POWERED OFF, NO ISSUES ON THE DASH AND ONCE CAR WAS PUT IN PARK IT RESTORED BUT STARTED WITH THE SAME LOUD NOISE FROM THE TWO PREVIOUS TIMES. THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD A RECALL ON ISSUES LIKE THIS IN THE PAST AND THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE, I AM SCARED OF ACCIDENTS DUE TO THIS ISSUE AND THE VEHICLE IS UNDRIVEABLE AND UNSAFE.

MY 2007 BMW 323I (CANADIAN VERSION OF THE 328I) CAUGHT FIRE WHILE IT WAS COMPLETELY STATIONARY IN A PARKING LOT LAST SUMMER. THE CAR WAS MECHANICALLY AND COSMETICALLY PRISTINE WITH NO MODIFICATIONS AT ALL OTHER THAN A SET OF AFTERMARKET WHEELS. I OWNED THE CAR FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS AND NEVER HAD ANY ISSUES WITH IT AND NEVER HAD TO GET ANY MAJOR MECHANICAL WORK DONE THAT COULD HAVE BEEN DONE WRONG AND LED TO THIS INCIDENT. THE DAY THE FIRE HAPPENED I GOT INTO THE CAR AND IT STARTED, IDLED AND RAN PERFECTLY, AS IT HAS SINCE MY OWNERSHIP. I DROVE IT FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES THEN PARKED IT IN A CROWDED PARKING LOT. NO ELECTRICAL DEVICES WERE PLUGGED INTO ANY OUTLET INSIDE THE CAR AND THE CAR WAS SHUT OFF COMPLETELY. I CAME OUTSIDE AND MY CAR WAS COMPLETELY INCINERATED. AS THE ABC ARTICLE STATES, BMW GAVE ME "THE COLD SHOULDER".

I HAVE PHONED TOWSON BMW ON AT LEAST 2 OCCASIONS AND REQUESTED THE RECALL REPAIR, BUT THEY STATE THAT I WILL HAVE TO WAIT FOR THEM TO CALL ME ABOUT IT. THIS IS A DANGEROUS CONDITION AND SHOULD BE FIXED ASAP!

we have taken the car to the dealership for the recall and was told they do not have the parts and also wouldn't know how to fix it. every time the car turns on, you can smell the melting of the plastic. it smells bad and am worried every time im driving about a fire. before the recall came out, we had asked about the unknown smell of something burning and was told it was "normal"

BMW 335I 2007 HAS (X3)THREE TIMES NOW, THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING DURING THE DAYLIGHT HOURS AT HIGHWAYS SPEEDS OF 65-70MPH IN THE NUMBER 1 FAR LEFT LANE OF (CA 101 FWY) IN MAY OF 2016 WHEN THE VEHICLE DISPLAYED 'ENGINE TEMPERATURE WAS HIGH, AND THAT THE CAR NEEDED TO BE DRIVEN AT A MODERATE SPEED'. IMMEDIATELY TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND BEGAN TO COAST IN IDLE STATE TO THE SHOULDER (CA 101 FWY) 5 LANES OVER. BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO MOVE TO THE 3RD LANE THE VEHICLE STATED 'ENGINE TO HOT', TURNED OFF, LOST POWER (MUCH LIKE IF YOU RUN OUT OF GAS), AND I FRIGHTFULLY MERGED CREEPING ALONG TO THE SHOULDER NARROWLY MISSED BEING HIT BY SEVERAL OTHER TRUCKS AND VEHICLES. I WENT TO LIFT THE HOOD, EXPECTING TO BE OVERWHELMED BY HEAT AND CONDITIONS THAT WOULD CAUSE A BMW TO DISABLE SUDDENLY AND LOSE POWER. I OBSERVED NO CONDITIONS OF HEAT OR UNUSUAL TO CAUSE A SHUT DOWN. TO DATE, I WAS NEVER INFORMED BY ANYONE FROM THOSE DEALERS OR BMW THAT MY CAR FELL INTO THE AFFECTED LOT. THROUGH MY OWN RESEARCH, I HAVE DISCOVERED MY CAR IS INDEED PART OF THE RECALL. THIS IS NOT SAFE OR SATISFACTORY.
