PASSENGER RESTRAINT MALFUNCTION.
ABOUT A MONTH AGO, MY 2008 BMW 3 SERIES ENGINE STALLED WHILE DRIVING AT SPEED 45 MPH. I RECEIVED NO WARNING BEFORE THE ENGINE STALLED. IT WAS A MIRACLE THAT I WAS ABLE TO MOVE OVER A LANE AND GET OFF THE ROAD BEFORE AN IMPACT FROM OTHER VEHICLES. THIS OCCURS EVERY TIME I DRIVE THE VEHICLE, MULTIPLE TIMES AND AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. IT'S VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE I RECEIVE NO WARNING BEFORE IT HAPPENS. THE VEHICLE IS ALWAYS IN MOTION WHEN IT HAPPENS AND AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, ON HIGHWAYS, STREETS, ANYWHERE WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT, TURNING AND ANY OTHER MANEUVERS.
ENGINE STOPPING AND STALLING WITH NO WARNING. AND IT KEEPS OCCURING EVERYDAY AND I GET NO WARNING OF THE ENGINE FAILURE.
BLOWER MOTOR RECALL. MY BMW CAUGHT ON FIRE ON 5/17/2018. I BELIEVE IT MAY BE RELATED TO THE CURRENT RECALL CONCERNING ENGINE FIRES IN SEVERAL MODEL LINES. IT WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY. HAD BEEN TURNED OFF FOR OVER 1 1/2 HOURS. DAMAGE WAS PRIMARILY ISOLATED TO THE FRONT AND REAR. FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AND ARRIVED WITHIN 3 MINUTES TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. COMMENTS MADE BY ARSON INVESTIGATORS WERE ODD BURN PATTERNS. FIRST THOUGHT WAS ELECTRICAL RELATED FIRE. THEY HAD TO CALL BACK FIRE FIGHTERS DUE TO WORRY THE BATTERY WOULD REIGNITE.

THE CONTACT CALLED RICK HILL IMPORTS, INC AT 877-549-1572 (LOCATED AT 861 E STONE DR, KINGSPORT, TN 37662) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND WAS NOT ABLE TO CONFIRM WHEN THE PARTS WERE TO BECOME AVAILABLE. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE VEHICLE OVERHEATED AND A BURNING ODOR WAS DETECTED. ALSO, THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 130,000. THERE ARE (3) CURRENT RECALLS FOR THIS MODEL, 2008 BMW 328I. ONLY (1) RECALL HAS A 'REMEDY' AVAILABLE. ACCORDING TO MY LOCAL BMW DEALERSHIP, THE 'REMEDIES' FOR THE OTHER (2) RECALLS, BOTH OF WHICH COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE A FIRE EVEN IN A NON-RUNNING PARKED SITUATION, ARE 'NOT YET AVAILABLE'. THESE RECALLS ARE: NHTSA #17V76 AND NHTSA #17V683. BMW USA HAS 'RECOMMENDED' THAT THE AFFECTED VEHICLES ALWAYS BE 'PARKED OUTSIDE'. I DO NOT CONSIDER THIS AN ACCEPTABLE SOLUTION TO THESE <POSSIBLY> DANGEROUS AND SERIOUS RECALL ISSUES, AS I LIVE IN A 'MARGINAL' NEIGHBORHOOD PRONE TO AUTO THEFT AND WEATHER DAMAGE. MY QUESTION IS, WHEN/HOW SOON WILL NHTSA (FEDERAL GOVERNMENT) FORCE THIS AUTO MFR (BMW) TO QUICKLY AND ADEQUATELY ADDRESS AND PROVIDE PERMANENT MECHANICAL SOLUTIONS FOR THESE (2) RECALLS. IN FACT, JUST RECENTLY (4/28/18) A HOUSE WAS DESTROYED BY A FIRE <LIKELY CAUSED> BY ONE OF THESE BMW MODEL RECALLS, PARKED IN THE GARAGE AND NOT RUNNING. BMW SAID THEY WOULD CONTACT OWNERS OF ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES WHEN A SOLUTION HAS BEEN FOUND, BUT 'HAVE NO IDEA WHEN THAT WILL BE'. NOT ACCEPTABLE. THESE ARE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUES THAT AFFECTS ONE MILLION+ VEHICLES AND THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF MILLIONS OF AMERICAN FAMILIES. PLEASE ADVISE WHAT YOU INTEND TO DO TO PROTECT THESE CAR OWNERS?
HELLO THERES TWO RECALL FOR BMW 3 SERIES THAT NEED TO DONE ASAP BUT WHEN I CHECK THE PARTS ARE NOT YET AVAILABLE AND IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEED TO FIX IMMEDIATELY
WHILE THE CAR WAS TRAVELLING AT A RATE OF ABOUT 45 MPH, IT DID SOMETHING I NEVER EXPERIENCED BEFORE. IT STARTED TO SHAKE, SPUTTER AND LOSE POWER WHILE ASCENDING A ON A PAVED CITY STREET THAT HAD ABOUT A 20 DEGREE UPHILL GRADE. THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME DIDN'T EXPECT MY SUDDEN SPEED CHANGE AND NEARLY REAR ENDED ME.. THE ENGINE ICON APPEARED ON THE DASH AND I SPUTTERED ALL THE WAY HOME.
FUEL PUMP JUST STOPPED WORKING; IT FIRST STOPPED WORKING WHILE OPERATING THE CAR THEN STARTED BACK UP WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL. THE FACT IT DID THIS WHILE I WAS DRIVING WAS TERRIFYING. THEN ONCE I STOPPED AND PARKED IT DID NOT START BACK UP. THE CAR STARTER ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE BUT AN ERROR CAME UP ON THE SCREEN REGARDING A FUEL PUMP FAILURE.
I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER TELLING ME TO STAND BY FOR ANOTHER RECALL LETTER TO THEN TELL ME TO HAVE THE CAR FIXED. THE CAR BLOWN UP PARKED OUTSIDE OF MY HOUSE IT HAS NOT BEEN USED FOR 24 HOURS PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. I HAVE JUST NOW RECENTLY RECIEVED THE SECOND RECALL LETTER MONTHS LATER NO. 17V-676
THE RECALLS WERE REPORTED IN NOVEMBER OF 2017 AND THERE IS STILL NO REMEDY AVAILABLE. BOTH OF THESE RECALLS (17V-676 AND 17V-683) CAN CAUSE A FIRE. IT IS NOT REASONABLE THAT THERE IS NO REMEDY AVAILABLE IN MORE THAN 120 DAYS.
MY CAR IS EXPERIENCING THE INFAMOUS HPFP FAILURE. THE CODE THROWN IS P2AAF (FUEL PUMP PLAUSABILITY) AND P29F2 (HIGH-PRESSURE FUEL SYSTEM, FUEL PRESSURE). WHEN STARTING THE CAR, THE ENGINE SHAKES, RUMBLES AND ALMOST DIES, ERRATIC IDLE...I HAVE TO REV UP THE ENGINE FOR A FEW MINUTES TO KEEP IDLE STABLE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND SES LIGHT COMES ON. IT HAS REDUCED POWER, I CAN NOT ACCELERATE QUICKLY ANY MORE. I SEE PEOPLE BEHIND ME MOVE OVER EVERYTIME I GO FROM A STOP. I TOOK THE CAR TO BMW RECENTLY AND THEY FOUND $8,800 WORTH OF REPAIR COST ON THE VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD THE HPFP NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BUT IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY SINCE THE CAR IS 10 YEARS OLD AND PAST 120,000 MILES. THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE IT FOR FREE. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THE PUMP WAS REPLACED A FEW TIMES BEFORE. I THINK I AM THE SECOND OWNER OF THE CAR. I PURCHASED IT IN 2/2013. ROUGHLY 3 YEARS AGO, THE CAR'S ENGINE SHUTDOWN WHILE I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. I WAS ABLE TO KEEP IT GOING ABOUT 4 MILES AN HOUR AND PULLED OVER. I WAS TOLD THE LOW PRESSURE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED UNDER CPO WARRANTY TO GET THE CAR WORKING AGAIN. THIS CAR IS A DANGER TO ME AND MY KIDS. I THINK THE HPFP SHOULD BE REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE IF THE SYMPTOMS EXIST, NO MATTER IF THEIR WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED.
REAR RIMS CRACKED WITH RUN FLAT TIRES. SECOND RIM TO CRACK
I RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE FOR AIRBAG, PCP VALVE HEATER,AND BLOWER MOTOR WIRING. IN 2013-2015 MY BMW WAS SHAKING HEAVILY AND SCARILY WHILE DRIVING AND SITTING AT RED LIGHTS. I SPENT $5,306 OVER 5 DIFFERENT BILLS FROM 4/1/2013 THROUGH 12/18/2015 WHICH I WILL ATTACH. AS OF TODAY, 2/26/2018 THE CAR IS AT THE SHOP AND A NUMBER OF ISSUES WERE PRESENTED INCLUDING SPARK PLUG IGNITION, POWER STEERING IN 3 POINTS (RESERVOIR SUCTION HOSE, FLUSH FLUID), REAR DIFFERENTIAL, PINION SEAL, BOTH AXLE SEALS, NEEDED RESEAL AND REBUILT, MOTOR VALVE COVERS, LEAK IN SUSPENSION, AND ADDITIONAL ISSUES I COULD BARELY KEEP UP WITH WRITING DOWN AS THE MECHANIC WAS SPEAKING THEM OVER THE PHONE. HE ESTIMATE $4,800 (THIS WAS MIDAS, IT WOULD BE MORE AT THE ROCKVILLE BMW IN ROCKVILLE MD).
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 BMW 328I. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE DEFROSTER FAILED TO OPERATE AND THE CONTACT COULD NOT SEE THE ROAD PROPERLY. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V676000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. The contact owned a 2008 BMW 328xi. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V119000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact's son was driving approximately 30 MPH when the son noticed that smoke had begun to issue from the dashboard vents. The son pulled over and stopped the vehicle and exited when the vehicle dashboard burst into flames. The fire department was called and extinguished the flames with water. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The contact's insurance provider declared the vehicle a total loss. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

RECENTLY I GOT A LETTER FROM BMW THAT MY VEHICLE WAS RECALLED FOR TWO ISSUES WHICH I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING SINCE A YEAR. 1 OVERHEATING 2. PLASTIC BURNING SMELL INSIDE THE COMPARTMENT. I BROUGHT THIS TO THEIR BMW'S NOTICE MANY TIMES WHICH THEY IGNORED. AND RECENTLY WHEN I GOT THIS RECALL LETTER FROM BMW I GAVE THEM A CALL(PRINCETON BMW), THEY GAVE ME AN APPOINTMENT SAYING THEY WILL FIX THAT. I TOLD THEM CRYSTAL CLEARLY THAT I WAS THERE FOR THE TWO RECALL ISSUES ONLY AND NOTHING ELSE. AND TO MY SHOCK ,LET ALONE REPAIRING THE MANDATORY RECALL ISSUES, THEY GAVE A BIG LIST OF OTHER THINGS, WHICH I DID NOT EVEN ASK FOR, AND THEY CHARGED ME AROUND 170 DOLLARS(ATTACHED COPIES). I AM BRINGING THIS TO YOUR NOTICE FOR SOLELY ONE REASON, AND THAT IS THERE ARE MILLIONS OF UNSUSPECTING PEOPLE WHO ARE UNAWARE OF THIS MALPRACTICE WHO WILL BE FALLING INTO THIS KIND OF TRAP. BMW IS TRYING TO MAKE MONEY OUT OF THIS SITUATION TOO. I AM ATTACHING ALL THE COPIES. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS MATTER AND PLEASE MAKE THEM REALIZE THERE IS AN AUTHORITY WATCHING. THE CONTACT HAD DIFFICULTY EXITING THE VEHICLE, BUT WAS ABLE TO LEAVE THROUGH THE DRIVER'S DOOR. THE CONTACT CALLED THE FIRE AND POLICE DEPARTMENTS. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THERE WERE TWO INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AGAIN ON DECEMBER 4, 2017. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AT 201-571-5876. THE CONTACT LEFT SEVERAL MESSAGES AND DID NOT RECEIVE A RESPONSE. THE DEALER HAD NOT BEEN CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,000.

DRIVING MY CAR AT 65MPH THE WHOLE CAR SHUT DOWN I HAD NO CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. WAS BARELY ABLE TO POWER THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT AND COAST INTO A PARKING LOT. I LOCKED THE CAR DOORS WHILE DRIVING USING THE DASHBOARD SWITCH. UPON ARRIVING AT MY DESTINATION AND PLACING THE VEHICLE IN PARK, I WAS UNABLE TO OPEN THE DRIVER'S DOOR WITH THE DASH SWITCH, KEY FOB OR INTERIOR/EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE. I HAD TO EXIT THE VEHICLE BY CRAWLING OVER THE CONSOLE BETWEEN THE DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. HAD AN ACCIDENT OCCURRED PREVENTING EGRESS VIA THE PASSENGER DOOR, I WOULD HAVE BEEN TRAPPED IN THE VEHICLE. THE REPAIR INVOLVED REPLACING A 15 AMP FUSE WITH A 20 AMP FUSE AND HAS OCCURRED WITH SOME BMW CARS. BMW NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE VIA RECALL.
