TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 BMW X5. THE CONTACT WAS ALERTED TO AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE WHILE IT WAS PARKED AT HER HOME. UPON INSPECTION, THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS FILLED WITH SMOKE. TEN MINUTES LATER, THE VEHICLE WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CONTACTED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TOWED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 72,000.
THE EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE, WHEN BACKING OUT OF GARAGE THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE BLOW UP FOR NO APPARENT REASON, AIR ESCAPE FROM A HOLE IN SIDE WALL FROM THE RIM. _________________________ THE FAILURE, HOW OFTEN IT OCCURS, ITS CONSEQUENCES; AND, TIRE HAVE HOLE IN THE SIDEWALL, AIR ESCAPE, NO DRIVING ON THIS TIRE. PULL BACK IN TO GARAGE, REMOVE THE RIGHT FRONT WHELL FROM THE CAR AND TAKE TO A TIRE DEALER FOR EVALUATION. ___________________ WHAT WAS DONE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE -- I.E, PARTS REPAIRED OR REPLACED (AND IF OLD PART IS AVAILABLE) NEED TO PURCHASE BOOTH NEW FRONT TIRES SINCE THAT WAS A 4 WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE.
ON 2018 THE ENGINE'S IDLER PULLEY BOLT FAIL. THE VEHICLE LOSE THE POWER AND DON'T RUN. I HAVE TRIED TO FIX THE PROBLEM WITH BMW AGENCY ON TUCSON ARIZONA, BUT THEY NEVER CAN HELP WITH THIS PROBLEM. THEY ALWAYS SAY THE SAME 'WE CAN'T DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. I'M VERY FUSTRATED BECAUSE THIS IS MY ONLY VEHICLE. FINALLY I VISITED ANOTHER MECHANIC TO FIX MY VEHICLE. I ALREADY SPEND MONEY TO FIX THE PROBLEM, AND YOU COMPANY JUST GIVE ME EXCUSES. I'M VERY UPSET WITH THE SERVICE, VERY BAD SERVICE. SOMETIMES THE PERSONE BY PHONE TELL ME THAT HE WOULD SEE HOW HE CAN HELP ME, AND HE GOING TO CALL ME BACK AND NEVER HAPPENED. I'M JUST TRY TO KEEP THE VEHICLE IN GOOD CONDITIONS FOR THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY. AND SEE IF YOU GOING TO HELP ME TO GET SOME MONEY BACK THAT I ALREADY SPEND OF MY POCKET. THANK YOU !!
IDLER PULLEY BOLT RECALL WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE IDLER PULLEY BOLT SNAPPED WITH A LOUD NOISE. "ELECTRICAL FAILURE AND BATTERY NOT CHARGING" NOTICE CAME UP. SIMULTANEOUSLY POWER STEERING WAS LOST MAKING VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN THE VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY. FEW MOMENTS LATER CAUTION CAME UP TO "DRIVE MODERATELY ENGINE HOT". SOME MILES DOWN THE ROAD NOTICE CAME UP "ENGINE TOO HOT DRIVE MODERATELY". IT WAS NIGHT TIME ON A LONG WEEKEND AND MY DESTINATION WAS THIRTY MILES AWAY SO I PIED AT THE GAS STATION AND GOT THE CAR TOWED HOME. PROBLEM WAS NOTIFIED BY THE GARAGE MECHANIC. I DID CALL BMW COMPANY WHO REFUSED THAT THERE WAS ANY RECALL. THIS ISSUE HAD PUT MY FAMILY AND ME AT A GREAT DANGER BECAUSE THE CAR NEEDED MIGHTY STRENGTH TO STEER AND THE TIGHT TURNS WERE IMPOSSIBLE.
BMW HAS OPENED A RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE AS OF MAY, 23 OF 2018 AND THE PARTS AREN'T AVAILABLE EVEN NOW. I HAVE CALLED THEM NUMEROUS TIMES WITH NO SUCCESS AT ALL. NOBODY NOWS WHEN THESE PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE. I'M A RENT A CAR COMPANY OWNER AND THIS VEHICLE STAYS IN MY GARAGE AND COLLECTS DUST WITH NO REVENUE WHAT SO EVER. PLEASE HELP ME TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE.
RESTRAINT SYSTEM MALFUNCTION SHOWED UP ON MY CAR FOR NO REASON. I JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR IT HAD NO ISSUES THEN ONE DAY RESTRAINT SYSTEM MALFUNCTION SHOWED UP! I WAS PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVE WAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED.
THERE WAS A WATER PUMP RECALL FOR MY BMW X5, I TOOK MY X5 DUE TO AN ENGINE MALFUNCTION, THE DEALER DIDN'T DO THE WATER PUMP RECALL, INSTEAD, THEY CHARGE ME FOR REPLACING THE IVM AND THE CHARGE AIR PIPE STATING THAT WAS THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION, AFTER I PAID APPROXIMATELY $2,500 THEY CAME BACK AND TOLD ME THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION WAS DUE TO THE WATER PUMP, SO THEY CHARGED ME AN ADDITIONAL $1,380 FOR THE WATER PUMP. I JUST CHECKED THE RECALLS ON MY VEHICLES AND NOTICED THERE'S A WATER PUMP RECALL, HOWEVER, I HAD TO PURCHASE THE WATER PUMP AND OTHER ITEMS NOT NEEDED FOR THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION MESSAGE RELATED TO THE WATER PUMP. HOW CAN I SUBMIT A REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE AMOUNT AMOUNT PAID WHEN THERE WAS A RECALL AND I PAY FROM MY POCKET THE AMOUNT OF $3,880.00 RELATED TO THE WATER PUMP. ALSO, THE DEALER DID A DRIVE SHAFT RECALL, HOWEVER NOW THE TRANSFER CASE IS NOT WORKING, CREATING THE FRONT UNIVERSAL JOINT TO FAIL AFTER THE DRIVESHAFT RECALL WAS DONE, THE FRONT WHEELS IS AFFECTING THE VEHICLE TRACTION. WATER AND DEBRIS MAY BE ENTERING THE FRONT DRIVESHAFT'S UNIVERSAL JOINT AND MAY CAUSE EXCESSIVE WEAR AND POSSIBLY RESULTING IN THE JOINT'S FAILURE. *TR
ENGINE MALFUNCTION LIGHT AND CAR OVERHEATING CAUSED BY WATER PUMP, THERE'S NO RECALL FOR MY VIN BUT IT SEEMS THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH BMW X5 MODELS... THE BMW DID A RECALL ON MY X5 AND AFTER THEY FINISHED THE RECALL THE TRANSFER CASE STOPPED WORKING PROPERLY, HOWEVER, THE TRANSFER CASE WAS WORKING PERFECTLY BEFORE THE RECALLED. THE BMW POWER TRAIN RECALL DAMAGE THE TRANSFER CASE
I WAS DRIVING MY BMW X5 AND OUT OF NOWHERE AN "ENGINE MALFUNCTION WARNING LIGHT" CAME UP ACCOMPANIED BY AN ENGINE OVERHEATING, I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND CALLED A TOW-TRUCK WHO TOOK MY X5 TO THE NEARS BMW DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN STATED IT WAS THE IVM AND THE CHARGE AIR PIPE THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AFTER SPENDING $1,500 ON THE 2 ITEMS, I DROVE OUT OF THE DEALER AND LESS THAN A MILE DOWN THE ROAD, THE SAME "ENGINE MALFUNCTION AND VEHICLE OVERHEATING LIGHT" CAME BACK UP. CALLED THE DEALER AND ANOTHER TOW-TRUCK PICK UP MY X5, THEN I REQUESTED TO SPEAK WITH THE SHOP MANAGER WHO INFORMED ME THE PROBLEM WITH THE X5 WAS NEVER PERTAINING TO THE IVM OR CHARGE AIR PIPE, AS THEY MISS OVERLOOKED THE DIAGNOSIS WHICH STATED THE DME WAS NOT WORKING. THEY CHANGE THE DME AND ANOTHER $2,000 WAS CHARGED, AFTER IT WAS REPAIR AND I DROVE AWAY, THE SAME ENGINE MALFUNCTION LIGHT AND VEHICLE OVERHEATING LIGHT CAME UP, CALLED THE DEAELR AND THEY TOLD ME THAT AFTER CHANGING THE DME, THE NEW DIAGNOSIS STATED THE WATTER PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THIS WAS THE PART THAT WAS CREATING THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION AND OVERHEATED VEHICLE WARNING TO COME UP. I ENDED UP CHANGING THE WATER PUMP AND OTHER VEHICLE PARTS, THAT DID NOT NEEDED TO BE CHANGED AND NOW A RECALL FOR THE WATER PUMP CAME OUT. ON THE MEANTIME, I SPENT ALMOST $4,000.00 ON REPAIRS WHEN EVERYTHING COULD HAVE BEEN DONE IF THEY WOULD HAVE CONDUCTED THE WATER PUMP RECALL. WHO CAN REIMBURSE ME THE AMOUNT OF MONEY PAID? I SENT THE ORIGINAL DME TO SEE IF IT WAS DAMAGE, AND THEY CAME BACK STATING IT WAS NOT DAMAGE AT ALL, THEREFORE THE PROBLEM WAS THE WATER PUMP AND NOT THE DME, OR IVM OR CHARGE AIR PIPE. PLEASE HELP!!!
THE DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID PASSIVE TANK IN MY BMW X5 HAS FAILED, WHICH FROM WHAT I'VE READ IN MANY FORUMS IS AN UNACCEPTABLY COMMON OCCURRENCE. WHILE TAKING THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THREE OTHER RECALLS ADDRESSED I ASKED ABOUT THE TANK BEING COVERED IN THE EXTENDED EMMISSIONS WARRANTY ON THE CAR. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE MAIN DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID TANK IS COVERED (WHICH THEY REPLACED BECAUSE IT HAD FAILED TOO), BUT THE RESERVE OR PASSIVE TANK WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. NOW THERE IS A COUNTDOWN ON THE DASH THAT IF I DRIVE OVER 900 MILES WITHOUT FIXING IT THE CAR WILL KNOW LONGER START. I HAVE HAD MY DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID FILLED MULTIPLE TIMES BUT THE MESSAGE RETURNS IMMEDIATELY. TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE TANK IS $2,500. I'M MAKING A COMPLAINT BECAUSE AS I SAID THIS IS A WIDESPREAD ISSUE WITH THIS PART AND IF BMW REALIZES THERE IS A DEFECT ON THE MAIN TANK, WHY WOULDN'T THEY ALSO REPLACE THE PASSIVE TANK UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY?
2012 BMW X5. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ENGINE MALFUNCTION. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. *JS

THIS PAST WINTER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IN MY 2012 BMW X5 DIESEL (X35D) CAME ON. CHECKING THE CODE (4BCC) REVEALED THAT FILL SENSOR FOR THE PASSIVE DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID (DEF) TANK IS MALFUNCTIONING. I HAD LETTERS FROM BMW STATING THAT BMW HAD EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE ACTIVE DEF TANK AND NOS SENSORS TO 10 YEARS AND 120K MILES BUT NOT ON THE PASSIVE DEF TANK. CHECKING VARIOUS BMW FORUMS I FOUND THAT IT IS A VERY COMMON FAILURE. MANY PEOPLE ARE REPORTING THIS AND SO MUCH SO THAT THERE IS A CANADIAN COMPANY (XEMODEX) THAT IS MAKING BETTER VERSION OF THESE PARTS AND PROVIDING MUCH LONGER REPAIR WARRANTY THAN BMW PROVIDES. ONE OF THE MEMBERS IN THE COMMUNITY ACTUALLY DID A THOROUGH ANALYSIS WITH SCOPE (HTTPS://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=XFAL06PD_PG) AND IT SHOWED THAT THE FILL SENSORS USED IN THE ACTIVE TANK IS A THREE LEVELS READER AND IN THE PASSIVE TANK IS A TWO LEVELS READER AND THE ONES THAT GO BAD IS USUALLY THE HIGHEST LEVEL FILL MARKER WHICH BECOMES DRY EARLY ON IN THE USAGE CYCLE. IT APPEARS THAT THERE IS A SYSTEMATIC ISSUE HERE WHERE THE DEF HEATER AND LEVEL SENSOR ARE ALL HOUSED TOGETHER AND DURING WINTER TIME WHEN THE DEF HEATER COMES ON IT CAUSES THE UNSUBMERGED PART OF THE FILL SENSOR TO GO BAD. THE OTHER ISSUE IS THAT CURRENTLY MY PASSIVE DEF TANK IS FILLED WITH DEF BUT BECAUSE OF THE FILL SENSOR MALFUNCTION IT IS NOT ALLOWING FLOW OF DEF FROM PASSIVE TANK TO ACTIVE TANK LIMITING MY RANGE OF TRAVEL BEFORE THE SYSTEM WOULD NOT ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO START DUE TO ACTIVE TANK BEING EMPTY. AND THIRDLY, NOT SURE WHY A PASSIVE TANK WAS INTRODUCED WHEN MAKING THE ACTIVE ONE SLIGHTLY BIGGER WOULD ACCOMPLISH THE SAME THING AND AVOID USE OF TWICE AS MANY OF THESE FAULTY PARTS AND DESIGN. BOTH THE ACTIVE TANK AND THE PASSIVE TANK USE THE SAME FILL SENSOR AND HEATER COMPONENTS BUT THE WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED ONLY ON THE ACTIVE THANK AND NOT ON THE PASSIVE TANK.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 BMW X5. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING AND LOW POWER MODE INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO WALSER BMW AUTO CAMPUS OF WICHITA (11000 E 13TH ST N, WICHITA, KS 67206, PHONE: (316) 221-3841) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. IN ADDITION, WHILE ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, THE CHECK ENGINE AND LOW POWER MODE INDICATORS ILLUMINATED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO WALSER BMW WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VANOS SOLENOID FAILED, THERE WERE METAL SHAVINGS IN THE OIL, AND THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,140. *TT CONSUMER STATED BMW CUSTOMER CARE PACKAGE B001314 WAS COMPLETED BY BMW BEFORE CONSUMER PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. AT APPROX. 36,000 MILES. FROM CONSUMER'S FIRST BMW SERVICE, THE BMW SERVICE MANAGER TOLD THE CONSUMER HE WOULD HAVE CONTINUOUS PROBLEM AS THE N63 ENGINE WAS NOTORIOUS FOR TROUBLE. UPDATED 9/4/18*JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL BOLT FRACTURED AND THE STEERING WHEEL HAD TO BE TURNED WITH FORCE. THE CONTACT DROVE HOME AND DISCOVERED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL BOLT WAS FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO BMW OF WEST HOUSTON (20822 KATY FREEWAY, KATY, TX 77449, PHONE (855) 627-3055) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL ENGINE PULLEY BOLT FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V550000 (STEERING, ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE, BUT DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE AND THE STEERING WHEEL ENGINE PULLEY BOLT FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 114,000.
WHILE OUT OF TOWN, VEHICLE IN MOTION ON ROAD, HEAR A CLUNK IN THE ENGINE BAY AND MANY WARNING LIGHTS GO OFF. GO TO PULL OVER AND STEERING IS VERY DIFFICULT TO OPERATE. MANAGE TO PULL OUT OF TRAFFIC SAFELY. THE REDUCED MOBILITY OF VEHICLE DUE TO LOSS OF POWER STEERING COULD HAVE EASILY CAUSED A LIFE THREATENING SITUATION. CALL TOW TRUCK. GARAGE STATES LOSS OF POWER STEERING IS DUE TO LOSS OF SERPENTINE BELT DUE TO BROKEN IDLER PULLEY BOLT, EVEN THOUGH A RECALL FOR THIS PART EXISTS AND HAS BEEN PERFORMED. RECALL 12V5500000 ENGINE IDLER PULLEY MAY BREAK, WAS PERFORMED IN 2013. THIS SAME RECALL SHOULD APPLY BUT BMW SERVICE STATES THEY WILL NOT SERVICE AGAIN AS IT HAS ALREADY BEEN COMPLETED. PARTS ARE ON BACK ORDER, TAKES OVER A WEEK FOR BOLT TO ARRIVE. MANY DOCUMENTED CASES OF ORIGINAL RECALL REPAIR FAILING A SECOND TIME IN AS LITTLE AS 5 MONTHS TO AS MANY AS 3.5 YEARS AFTER INITIAL RECALL SERVICE. BMW REFUSES REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE COST OF REPAIR, $1153.00. A NEW RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED.
HESITATION STARTING THE CAR, DIAGNOSIS BY DEALER WAS FUEL PUMP FAILING. MILEAGE WAS 65,000. COST TO REPAIR 1500.00. I SEE THERE WAS A RECALL FOR MODEL YEARS 2008-2011.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND BMW SERVICE CENTER TOLD ME THE SENSORS IN THE PASSIVE DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID TANK FAILED AND ENTIRE TANK NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. BMW EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE ACTIVE TANK, BUT NOT PASSIVE. THINK ITS RIDICULOUS THAT ONLY ONE TANK IS COVERED WHILE THE PASSIVE IS NOT. THIS IS A WELL-DOCUMENTED ISSUE ON BMW'S DIESEL.
LAST SATURDAY 11/11/2017, WE AS A FAMILY (ME, MY WIFE AND MY 6 YEAR OLD CHILD), STARTED TO GO ON A 3 HOUR DRIVE FROM OUR HOME TO TELIMENA STATE PARK TO WATCH FOR THE FALL FOLIAGE COLORS THROUGH THE BEAUTIFUL TELIMENA NATIONAL SCENIC BYWAY IN ARKANSAS. IT IS PART OF A HUGE OUACHITA NATIONAL FOREST. LITTLE DID WE KNOW THAT WE ARE FIRST TIMERS AND WE DID NOT ANTICIPATE OUR T-MOBILE CELL PHONE SIGNALS WILL QUIT ON US. EVERYTHING WAS GOING GOOD UNTIL A POINT WHERE MY ENGINE ALMOST QUIT ON ME WITH A WARNING MESSAGE "ENGINE IS NOW WORKING AT A REDUCED SPEED AND ADVISED TO SEE NEAREST BMW DEALER", WE WERE ON A SPEED OF ABOUT 60MPH AND THE CAR DOES NOT ACCELERATE ALL OF A SUDDEN, IT WAS EXTREMELY EXTREMELY SCARY AND TERRIFYING. WITH ALL THE TRAFFIC, WE BARELY MANAGED TO DIVERT A POTENTIAL ACCIDENT AND PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE AND SHUT DOWN THE CAR. WE MANAGED TO SURVIVE THE SUDDEN ENGINE QUITTING ON US ON A SPEEDY ROAD. THIS IS EXTREMELY LIFE THREATENING. WE DID NOT HAVE OUR CELL PHONE SIGNAL AND WE WERE STRANDED FOR SOME HELP FOR ABOUT 4 HOURS. WE DID NOT WANT TO TAKE CHANCES DRIVING THIS CAR AND DO ANOTHER LIFE THREATENING EXPERIENCE. WE MANAGED TO GET SOME HELP AND GET OUT OF THERE. NEXT DAY WITH SOME HELP, I MANAGED TO DRIVE THE CAR SLOWLY BY MYSELF AND A FRIEND FOLLOWING ME. WE MADE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP IN BMW PLANO. RECENTLY I HAD A RECALL WORK DONE WITH BMW PLANO ON 10/30-11/1 FOR 3 ITEMS. FRONT AIRBAG, FRONT DRIVESHAFT, MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR. YESTERDAY THEY RETURNED THE CAR MENTIONING THAT THE ISSUE IS POSSIBLY RELATED TO OTHER UNRELATED ITEMS. (1) CHARGE PIPE NEAR THROTTLE BODY IS CRACKED / TORN / LEAKED.. CHARGE PIPE CODES SEEN DURING SMOKE TESTING I BOUGHT THIS CAR ON 30TH DEC 2016 WHEN THE MILEAGE ON THE CAR WAS AROUND 48000 MILES AND IT WAS WORKING FINE UP UNTIL THIS LIFE THREATENING AND TERRIFYING SITUATION NOW AT CURRENT MILEAGE OF 57000 MILES.
EGR COOLER AT FRONT OF ENGINE IS LEAKING EXHAUST. EXHAUST DIESEL SMELL IS COMING IN SIDE THE CABIN. DRIVER AND PASSENGERS SMELLING DIESEL EXHAUST. DETERIORATING HEALTH OF FAMILY ADULTS AND KIDS. 2012 BMW X5 XDRIVE50I PURCHASED 10-25-2014 AS CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED FROM BMW OF AUSTIN WITH 54,554 MILES AND EXTENDED WARRANTY TO 8-1-17 OR 100,000 MILES. ALL SERVICE WORK AND MAINTENANCE PERTAINING TO ENGINE DONE AT BMW OF AUSTIN ON TIME AS SCHEDULED. NUMEROUS RECALL WORK PERFORMED UNDER WARRANTY. NUMEROUS ISSUES WITH ENGINE HESITATION DURING ACCELERATION REPORTED TO DEALER, INVESTIGATED BY DEALER, AND SUPPOSEDLY "FIXED" BY DEALER. PROBLEMS WITH ENGINE HESITATION AT ACCELERATION PERSISTED. PROBLEM REPORTED TWICE TO DEALER THE LAST MONTH OF ELIGIBLE WARRANTY ALONE ALONG WITH STATEMENT THAT ENGINE WAS BURNING THROUGH AN EXCESSIVE ABOUT OF BMW SUPPLIED SYNTHETIC OIL (ON 7/5/17 AND AGAIN ON 7/21/17). ENGINE FINALLY SEIZED ENTIRELY ON 10/25/17 AT 89,000 MILES WHILE DRIVING AT 50 MPH AND WAS TOWED TO BMW OF AUSTIN. SERVICE REP STATED THEY COULD NOT GET THE ENGINE STARTED AND REQUESTED APPROVAL TO CRACK OPEN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT TO INVESTIGATE. THE WORK WAS APPROVED AND HE SAID THERE WAS "UNUSUAL AND SEVERAL SCORING ON THE NUMBER 6 CYLINDER THAT WOULD REQUIRE REPLACING THE ENGINE." THIS TYPE OF CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE IS NOT USUAL FOR A WELL MAINTAINED ENGINE. THE NUMEROUS RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE ARE SUSPECT IN THE EARLY ENGINE FAILURE. THE KNOWN DEFECTS IN MATERIAL PARTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT BEING THE MOST SUSPECT. TO DATE, BMW USA IS ONLY WILLING TO OFFER $5000 TOWARDS REPAIR OR TRADE IN (NOW ONLY WORTH $2500 DUE TO NON-FUNCTIONING ENGINE). I STRONGLY BELIEVE THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE HANDLED UNDER THE 10 YEAR/120000 MILE EXTENDED WARRANTY PROVIDED BY BMW FOR REPAIRS RELATED TO THE AFOREMENTIONED RECALLS. THEY DISAGREE.

AT 75K MILES MY BMW X5 BEGAN SHUTTERING WHILE MAKING SHARP, SLOW TURNS. I THOUGHT IT WAS THE NEW TIRES WE PUT ON. THEN THE STUTTERING HAPPENED WHEN COMING TO A STOP, AS WELL. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT HAS BEEN SERVICED ALL ALONG AND THEY SAID THE TRANSFER CASE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. REALLY, AT 75K MILES. WHEN I WENT ONLINE TO RESEARCH THE ITEM I FOUND THAT THE PREVIOUS YEAR MODEL WAS A RECALL. OBVIOUSLY, BMW DID NOT FIX THE ITEM ON THE 2012 THAT I OWN. A FAULTY TRANSFER CASE IN THE X5 CAN CAUSE LOSS OF DRIVE AND THIS CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURIES OR DEATH IF THE OCCUPANTS ARE ON A FREEWAY OR IN AN INTERSECTION ETC WHERE THEY ARE STUCK. WHAT WOULD IT TAKE FOR SOMEONE TO LOOK AT THIS ISSUE AND HOLD THE MANUFACTURERS ACCOUNTABLE.
ON 2017 OCT 8TH, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY, MY CAR HAD A RED MESSAGE SAYING THE ENGINE WAS OVERHEATED AND I NEED TO TURN OFF THE CAR IMMEDIATELY. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE TO COOL DOWN FOR AROUND 30 MIN. THERE WERE CARS PASSING BY IN 80 MILES RIGHT BY US. IT WAS TERRIFYING. FELT LIKE A CAR COULD CRASH INTO US ANY MOMENT. I HAD TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY AND STOP AND TURN OFF THE ENGINE EVERY 5 MIN TO COME BACK HOME. 20 MIN DRIVE ALMOST TOOK ME 2 HOURS. I HAD MY KIDS IN THE CAR WITH NO AC. IT WAS ONLY A MONTH AFTER I PUT THE CAR IN SERVICE AND PAID $3086 FOR MAINTENANCE. I TOOK IT INTO BMW SERVICE AND PAID $2041 TO GET THE WATER PUMP FIXED. BMW SERVICE SAID THAT THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING UNTIL THE CAR BREAKES DOWN AND HAVE THE MESSAGE ON. WHICH MEANS ALL POTENTIAL BMW COULD HAVE A POSSIBILITY OF BREAKING DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. THE REASON I'M FILING THIS IS THAT JUST LAST WEEK I PUT THE CAR INTO SERVICE AND IN THE COURSE OF REASEARCHING I CAME ACROSS THE FACT THAT BMW X5 WATER PUMP WAS RECALLED IN 2018. I CONTACTED BMW AND THEY SAY MY SPECIFIC VIN WAS NOT AFFECTED. BUT IT LOOKS LIKE AS MAJORITY OF THE BMW AND MINI WATER PUMPS WERE RECALLED, THEY HAVE A FUNDAMENTAL ISSUE WITH THE WATER PUMPS. IT IS HARD TO BELIEVE WHEN MY WATER PUMP ACTUALLY BROKE AT 37000 MILEAGE IT'S NOT RELATED A DEFECT AT ALL. I'M WRITING TO YOU REGARDING MY 2012 BMW X5M. ON OCTOBER 8, 2017 I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AND SUDDENLY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME UP AND ALMOST IMMEDIATELY THE CAR LOST POWER AND A VERY LOUD BANGING NOISE START COMING UP FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND THE CAR COULD BARELY MOVE. I PULLED OVER AS SOON AS I WAS OUT OF THE INTERSECTION AND GOT THE CAR TOWED TO THE NEAREST BMW AUTHORIZE DEALER - BMW OF SILVER SPRING, MD (3211 AUTOMOBILE BLVD, SILVER SPRING, MD 20904). AFTER A FEW CONVERSATIONS WITH THE DEALER I WAS TOLD THAT I HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE ENGINE AND THAT THERE WILL BE NO EFFORT MADE TO DETERMINE THE REASON FOR THE ENGINE FAILURE. THE CAR IS A WELL MAINTAINED VEHICLE AND I HAVE RECORDS FOR ALL THE MAINTENANCE WORK DONE. THAT INCLUDES OIL CHANGES DONE EVERY 5,000- 7,000 MILES. I TOLD THE DEALER THAT I SUSPECT THE ISSUE COULD BE A FAULTY FUEL INJECTOR. THE SYMPTOMS I SHARED WITH THE BMW DEALER WERE ROUGH STARTS, ROUGH IDLE AND FUEL SMELL WERE PRESENT ESPECIALLY THE DAY WE TOWED THE CAR IN. THE DEALER REFUSED TO ACCEPT ANY OF THE SHARED INFORMATION AND DENIED MY REQUEST FOR THE FUEL INJECTORS TO BE CHECKED ALTHOUGH THEY ARE UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY. AS A RESULT, I WAS GIVEN NO CHOICE BUT PAY THE COST OF THE ENTIRE ENGINE REPLACEMENT. THE DEALER REFUSED TO GIVE ME THE OLD ENGINE BACK BECAUSE I WANTED IT INSPECTED TO CHECK WHETHER A FAULTY INJECTOR WAS THE REASON FOR THE ENGINE FAILURE.
POWER STEERING TENSIONER BOLT BROKE CAUSING BELT TO COME OFF AND POWER STEERING TO FAIL. NOTE: THIS WAS A PART ALREADY REPLACED ON RECALL 25000 MILES PREVIOUSLY. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION.
THE SENSOR (TO DETECT IF SOMEONE IS SITTING IN THE SEAT) UNDER THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY AND REQUIRES THE SEAT BELT TO BE ACTIVATED TO SILENCE THE WARNING BEEPS, EVEN WHEN THE PASSENGER SEAT IS NOT OCCUPIED, SO IT'S CLEARLY NOT FUNCTIONING AS INTENDED. LEADS ME TO QUESTION WHETHER THE AIRBAG WILL DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENED FOR SEVERAL YEARS WITH OUR 2007 BMW 530 AND THAT WAS FINALLY ACKNOWLEDGED BY BMW AND WE WERE OFFERED A FREE REPAIR FOR THIS ITEM. KEEP WAITING ON THEM TO INCLUDE OUR X5. IT'S BEEN SEVERAL YEARS.
THE VEHICLE HAD IT'S CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATE WHEN STARTED COLD, ROUGHLY 83K MILES. DEALER RAN DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND SAID THE FLUID LEVEL SENSOR IN THE SCR PASSIVE TABK HAD FAILED AND REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. 6 MONTHS PRIOR, THE CEL HAD COME ON, AND WAS RELATED TO THE SCR ACTIVE TANK SENSOR. BMW EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE ACTIVE TANK ONLY TO 10Y/120K MILES. IF BMW IS AWARE OF A DEFECT IN THE ACTIVE TANK, AND THE SAME PARTS ARE PRESENT IN THE PASSIVE, THEY SHOULD EXTEND THE WARRANTY OF THE PASSIVE TANK MODULE AS WELL.

CAR WAS PURCHASED USED WITH ABOUT 50K MILES. REPAIRS HAVE BEEN NORMAL THROUGHOUT. CAR NOW HAS ABOUT 78K MILES. UNDER THE RECALL BMW REPLACED THE DRIVESHAFT BC THEY APPARENTLY SHEER IN HALF UNDER NORMAL STRESS. GOT THE CAR BACK AND NOTICED THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING WHEN ACCELERATING. BROUGHT THE PARK AVE BMW IN NJ AND COMPLAINED THAT IT JUST STARTED HAPPENING AFTER THE RECALL WAS PREFORMED. THEY DIAGNOSED IT WAS THE TRANSFER CASE THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED $2750. I'M GOING TO SPEAK TO MANAGER AND ALSO CONTACT BMW NA CONSIDERING ONLINE IT SEEMS LIKE TRANSFER CASES ARE BEING REPLACED VERY FREQUENTLY AROUND 75K MILES. THERE ARE TIMES THEY DO NOT EVEN PICK UP THE PHONE OR THEY JUST SAY THE PARTS ARE NOT READY WITHOUT ANY FOLLOW UP REGARDING ESTIMATED TIME FRAME OR CALL BACK. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THESE RECALL NOTICES IF THE DEALERS ARE NOT EFFICIENT ENOUGH TO REPLACE THE PARTS?

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED BY THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC BUT WAS TOWED TO BMW OF SANTA MARIA DEALER LOCATED AT 2150 S COLLEGE DR, SANTA MARIA, CA 93455 (805) 614-0306 TO BE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND CONFIRMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V176000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 84,000.
FRONT DRIVE TRAIN RECALL. HAVE CALLED BMW MULTIPLE TIMES TO ARRANGE REPAIR. EVENTUALLY GOT AN APPOINTMENT BUT WE'RE THEN TOLD NO PART AVAILABLE. NO CLEAR INDICATION OF WHEN THE PART WILL BECOME AVAILABLE. VERY FRUSTRATING AND WE'RE NERVOUS ABOUT DRIVING A POTENTIALLY UNSAFE VEHICLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE COULD BE OFFERED. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH THE MANUFACTURER AND THE DEALER AND A REDUCED REPAIR PRICE WAS AGREED UPON. THE CONTACT ALSO SPOKE WITH SEVERAL UNKNOWN BMW DEALERS WHO INFORMED HIM THAT MANY OTHER VEHICLE OWNERS HAD THE SAME FAILURE AND IT WAS A DESIGN FLAW IN THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 59,800.
ON JULY 31ST 2017, THE BOLT SECURING IDLER PULLEY AND ALTERNATOR SHEARED. BATTERY CHARGE MALFUNCTION LIGHT CAME ON FOLLOWED BY LOSS OF POWER STEERING. LOOKING AT MY SERVICE RECORD, I SEE THAT THIS SAME BOLT WAS SUBJECT TO A RECALL IN JANUARY 2013 WHEN CAR WAS AT 12332 MILES. THE CAR IS NOW AT 63456. ALSO NOTED ON BMW OWNERS WEB SITE THAT MANY OTHER OWNERS OF THIS E70 SERIES DESIGN HAVE HAD THE SAME REPEAT PROBLEM. BMW DEALER IN CT PERFORMED THE LATEST REPAIR AND OFFERED NO EXPLANATION, EXCEPT THAT THEIR WORK IS GUARANTEED FOR 2 YEARS. ORIGINAL RECALL PERFORMED BY DEALER IN RALEIGH NC WHERE CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW HAS ADVISED ME TO POST THIS REPORT AND CALL BMWNA. I AM WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM THEM, BUT FIRST DISCUSSION WAS NOT GOOD. THEY CLAIMED THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE A RECORD OF THIS AS A CONTINUING PROBLEM AND WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO GIVE ME ANY ASSURANCES THAT IT WOULD NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. I NOTE THAT THE PART NUMBER OF THE NEW BOLT JUST INSTALLED IS THE SAME AS THE OLD BOLT INSTALLED IN 2013. WE WERE VERY LUCKY NOT TO BE INVOLVED IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT AND WITHOUT SOME CLEAR ASSURANCES THAT BMW UNDERSTAND HOW TO FIX THIS CONTINUING PROBLEM I AM VERY WORRIED ABOUT DRIVING THE CAR. HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO A SHOP, BOTH OF THE REAR SPRINGS BROKE IN DIFFERENT LOCATIONS. THE PASSENGER REAR SPRING SHEERED OFF AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SPRING. THE DRIVER SIDE SHEERED OFF AT THE TOP. I HAVE NOT TAKEN ANY PICTURES YET BECAUSE IT IS IN THE SHOP BUT I CAN GET THEM LATER THIS WEEK.
