TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 BUICK LACROSSE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V355000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PART WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL APPROXIMATELY THREE WEEKS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
FOR THE THIRD TIME, THIS VEHICLE HAS DIED AT A STANDSTILL FOR NO APPARENT REASON. IT WILL BE PERFORMING WELL UNTIL PARKED. AFTER A SPAN OF TIME, IT WILL NOT RESTART. WHEN THE KEY IS INSERTED INTO THE IGNITION, THE MOTOR WILL NOT CATCH OR TURN OVER, THE KEY WILL FREEZE OR LOCK IN THE IGNITION IN THE "ON" POSITION, NOTHING IN THE VEHICLE CAN BE OPERATED - GEAR SHIFT, RADIO/PLAYER, DOOR LOCKS, TRUNK LID, ETC., ETC. ETC. THE CAR IS COMPLETELY SEIZED UP. INSPECTION WILL DISCLOSE THAT BATTERY, INCLUDING BRAND NEW BATTERY, IS DEAD ( NO VOLTAGE WHATSOEVER). ONLY WAY TO RESTART VEHICLE IS TO RECHARGE BATTERY. THIS HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES OVER SPAN OF 9 TO 10 MONTHS. WHEN BATTERY IS RECHARGED, VEHICLE WILL OPERATE FOR MONTHS UNTIL IT IS DEAD AGAIN. SOMETHING IS DRAINING THE BATTERY, BUT THERE NO LOGICAL EXPLANATION; NOTHING SUCH AS RADIO, LIGHTS, ETC., IS BEING LEFT ON. SOME AUTO REPAIR PEOPLE BELIEVE THERE IS A SHORT IN THE CAR'S WIRING HARNESS; OTHERS BELIEVE THE DEFECTIVE IGNITION SYSTEM IS AT FAULT. *JS
2008 BUICK LACROSSE. KEYS GOT STUCK IN IGNITION AFTER THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. *TA THE CONSUMER STATED PRIOR TO RECEIVING THE RECALL NOTICES, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. *JB
WHILE TRAVELING UP A GRADUAL HILL ON A LOCAL STREET MY CAR STOPPED RUNNING. FORTUNATELY NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME AND I WAS ABLE TO ROLL OVER TO THE SIDE. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO MY MECHANIC. HE FOUND THE IGNITION COIL BURNT AND A FUSE BLOWN. HE REPLACED THE COIL AND FOUND THAT THE IGNITION MODULE WAS ALSO FAULTY. IN LIGHT OF THE RECENT IGNITION RECALLS, CAN FAULTY MODULES OR COILS ALSO BE A PROBLEM? *TR
AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ON. DIAGNOSTIC CODE B0092. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP INDICATED THAT THE PASSENGER PRESENCE MODULE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED FOR $1,229.00 PLUS TAX. ACCORDING TO MY RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET, THERE ARE MANY OTHER INSTANCES OF THIS SAME ISSUE. BUICK NEEDS TO START STANDING BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS, ESPECIALLY WHEN SAFETY IS INVOLVED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 BUICK LACROSSE. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS WERE ENGAGED AND BECAME INOPERABLE. THE FAILURE DISTORTED THE CONTACT'S VISIBILITY AND THE HIGH BEAM HEADLIGHTS WERE ACTIVATED IN ORDER TO CONTINUE DRIVING. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V755000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING); HOWEVER, THE REMEDY WAS UNAVAILABLE TO PERFORM THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 BUICK LACROSSE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHT COVER MELTED ON BOTH FRONT HEADLIGHTS CAUSING THE LIGHTS TO BECOME DIM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25-30 MPH THE ENGINE DIED, STEERING FAILED; I WAS ABLE TO COME TO A SAFE STOP. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. IT HAD TO BE TOWED. LATER FOUND OUT THE IGNITION COIL WAS CRACKED (PART # 10472401) , IGNITION CONTROL MODULE REPLACED (PART # 19245558) & 15A FUSE WERE REPLACED. I HAD BEEN EXPERIENCING A GASOLINE SMELL IN THE VEHICLE FOR MONTHS. I HAD IT INTO A GM DEALER 3 TIMES FOR THE ISSUE WITHOUT RESOLUTION. I WAS TOLD BY THE REPAIR STATION THAT THEY WERE AMAZED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD NOT COME ON BEFORE THE FAILURE. APPARENTLY THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY FIRING ON 4 CYLINDERS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,000.
WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH OR 50 MPH CAR SLOW DOWN TO 10 MPHSTOPS AND WON'T ACCELERATE(GAS PEDAL IS HARD WON'T GIVE GAS) . ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND CHIMES SAYING REDUCE ENGINE POWER AND TRACTION IS OFF (SERVICE TRACTION). WHEN TRY TO STEER OF THE ROAD STEERING WHEEL IS HARD TO TURN. PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD TURNED FROM "ON" TO "OFF" WITH 150 POUND PASSENGER SEATED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. THE RED WARNING INDICATOR LIGHT ON INSTRUMENT PANEL ALSO CAME ON. IT STAYED ON FOR 2 OR 3 MILES THEN THE DASHBOARD LIGHT TURNED BACK TO "ON" AND THE RED WARNING INDICATOR LIGHT TURNED OFF. IT OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY ON MOST TRIPS, "ON" THEN "OFF" THEN BACK TO "ON". TYPICALLY, THE DASHBOARD INDICATOR LIGHT WILL STAY IN THE "OFF" POSITION FOR 4 OR 5 MILES. NOW AT 81,737 MILES THE AIR BAG DASHBOARD INDICATOR LIGHT "ON/OFF" STILL OCCURS. THE FIRST OCCURRENCE OCCURRED WHILE CAR WAS STILL IN THE 12 MONTH GM CERTIFIED WARRANTY PERIOD. THE CONDITION WAS REPORTED TO DEALERSHIP, THEY DID NOT CONFIRM BY THEIR STATIC CHECK PROCEDURE. IT STILL OCCURS, INTERMITTENTLY, AFTER 10,000 FROM FIRST OBSERVANCE.
OUR 2008 LACROSSE HAS HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG FOR A LONG TIME. THE LIGHT WOULD ALWAYS STAY OFF. ABOUT A YEAR AGE WE HAD IT CHECKED OUT BY A DEALER. THEY SAID IT HAD A SHORT IN THE SYSTEM AND WOULD COST $1000 TO FIX. AFTER THEY TROUBLESHOOT THE SYSTEM, THE LIGHT STARTED TO WORK PROPERLY. HOWEVER, RECENTLY IT HAS BECOME ERRATIC, SOME TIMES SHOWING IT OFF FOR A PERIOD OF TIME THEN GOING TO ON. AS THIS IS APPARENTLY THE MOST COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL, IS THERE AN INVESTIGATION ONGOING. WE BELIEVE THAT THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS MODEL. *TR

THE PASSENGER POWER DOOR LOCK FAILS TO UN-LOCK OR LOCK WHEN ACCESSED WITH THE KEY FOB. THE MALFUNCTION RECURRED SPORADICALLY. WHEN PUTTING VEHICLE INTO DRIVE (OR WHEN VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF) THE DOOR DOESN'T LOCK OR UNLOCK ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. OTHER DOOR LOCKS ARE STARTING TO HAVE SAME PROBLEM. THE MILEAGE OF VEHICLE WAS 27,000 AND DOOR LOCK PROBLEMS BEGAN MARCH 17, 2014. HAVE READ OTHER REPORTS ON INTERNET WEBSITES STATING THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON 2005 TO 2012 BUICK LACROSSE VEHICLES AND POSSIBLY OTHER GM VEHICLES. I BELIEVE THERE IS A LEAK IN THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM IN MY BUICK LACROSSE 2008. I HAVE READ POSTINGS ON THE INTERNET OF OTHER BUICK LACROSSE OWNERS FROM MULTIPLE MODEL YEARS REPORTING THE SAME ISSUE. THERE APPEARS TO BE SOME TYPE OF FAILURE IN THE EQUIPMENT. MANY OWNERS REPORTED HAVING EXPENSIVE REPAIRS DONE, ONLY TO EXPERIENCE HE PROBLEM AGAIN. I AM CONCERNED WITH FAILURE OF THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM. I HAVE INQUIRED FROM BUICK IF THERE HAVE BEEN PROBLEMS OR INTERNAL SERVICE NOTICES ABOUT A POWER STEERING ISSUE AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THERE IS NOT. I HAVE SPENT THE ENTIRE SUMMER BEING STUCK AT DIFFERENT TIMES OF THE DAY AND NIGHT. I CAN GET IN MY CAR AND IT WILL NOT START. THE STARTING DISABLED/THEFT DETERRENT FEATURE POPS UP ON THE EIC. WHILE DRIVING THROUGH COLUMBUS,OHIO ON NOVEMBER 13, 2013, THE CAR SLOWED DOWN WHEN I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 30 MPH TO STOP. THE MOTOR STOPPED AND WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO A MUFFLER REPAIR AND THE TOLD ME ABOUT A DEALERSHIP A SHORT DISTANCE AWAY AND WAS ABLE TO LIMP TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP IS LOCATED IN WORTHINGTON, OHIO. AFTER A MULTI-POINT INSPECTION, I WAS TOLD THAT A FAULTY ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR WAS REPLACED AT A COST OF $102..61 PLUS LABOR OF $384.00 AND SHOP CHARGES OF $15.00 AND TAX OF $35.11 FOR A TOTAL OF $536.72. THERE IS ANOTHER PROBLEM OF THE AIRBAG LIGHT GOING ON AND OFF WHILE NO ONE IS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND WHEN A PERSON IS SEATED AND BUCKLED UP ACCORDING TO THE LAW.... *TR
A FEW DAYS AFTER PURCHASING A 2008 BUICK LACROSSE FROM THE LOCAL DEALER, THE DASHBOARD AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON. DIDN'T THINK MUCH ABOUT IT UNTIL IT HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES, SO I HEADED TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR HELP. THEY INSTRUCTED ME NOT TO PUT ANYTHING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BECAUSE THE CAR WOULD SENSE THE WEIGHT AND THINK THERE IS A PERSON THERE. SO I DIDN'T, BUT I DID NOTICE THE INDICATOR ABOVE THE RADIO THAT SENSES A PERSON IN THE PASSENGER SEAT DIDN'T TURN RED DURING THIS TIME. THEN THE GAME BEGAN. I WOULD PUT MY LUNCH BOX IN THE SEAT ON THE WAY TO WORK, SOMETIMES THE AIR BAG LIGHT WOULD COME ON, SOMETIMES IT WOULDN'T. AND, I FOUND THERE IS A DELAY IN THE SWITCH, WHEN ADDING OR REMOVING THE LUNCH BOX. SOMETIMES AFTER REMOVING THE LUNCH BOX THE AIR BAG LIGHT WOULD STAY ON, OR JUST COME ON WHEN IT WANTED TO. FOUND OUT HOW TO FIX THAT PROBLEM ALSO, ALBEIT TEMPORARILY. TAKE YOUR FINGERS AND FIRMLY PUSH 4-5 TIMES ALONG THE STITCHING IN THE CENTER OF THE SEAT. WILL TAKE A FEW SECONDS AND THE LIGHT MAY, OR MAY NOT, GO OUT. OR, A QUICK STOP TO GRAB A DRINK WILL RESET THE LIGHT. THE PROBLEM IS, FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND, IF YOU GET IN A CRASH WHILE THE LIGHT IS ON THERE IS A PRETTY GOOD CHANCE YOUR AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY. AS A MATTER OF FACT, I OWNED A 1994 FORD AEROSTAR VAN WHICH I TOOK TO THE DEALER WHEN THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON. THEY WOULD NOT LET ME DRIVE THE VAN, FOR FEAR THE AIR BAGS WOULD NOT WORK IN A CRASH, AND GAVE ME A LOANER WHILE THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM. I DID NOTICE BUICK HAS SERVICE BULLETINS ON THE AIR BAG PROBLEM, STATING "PROBLEM COULD BE CAUSED BY LOOSE, MISSING, OR BROKEN CONNECTOR POSITION ASSURANCE (CPA) RETAINER. " (SB-08-09-41-002C) CAN'T IMAGINE WHAT WOULD BE THE HOLD-UP IN FIXING THE PROBLEM, JUST HOPING I AM NOT THE FIRST STATISTIC. *TR
WEDNESDAY MORNING, I HAD AN APPOINTMENT, THEN STOPPED AT THE STORE, CAME HOME PULLED INTO THE GARAGE, CAME IN THE HOUSE, MY HUSBAND WAS OUTSIDE, & SMELLED RUBBER BURNING, HE WENT OUT FRONT TO CHECK, I HAD LEFT THE GARAGE DOOR OPEN, HE TURNED AROUND & LOOKED IN THE GARAGE, SMOKE WAS COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF THE CAR. THE WHOLE RELAY SWITCH BOX WAS MELTING & THE SMOKE WAS VERY BAD, HE GOT THE BATTERY CABLES OFF. I TOOK AN EXTRA WARRANTY ON THE CAR WHEN I BOUGHT IT, BUT AM TOLD IT DOES NOT COVER ELECTRICAL FIRES, WHAT A RIP OFF, I TRADED AN 2001 BUICK LIMITED ON THIS 2008 BUICK LACROSSE, ON 07/17/2013. I AM REALLY UPSET ABOUT THIS, & WITH THE DEALER SHIP, & GENERAL MOTORS. I AM TOLD THERE ARE NO RECALLS FOR THIS PROBLEM, & IT IS VERY RARE FOR THIS TO HAPPEN, BUT THIS IS NOT WHAT SEE ON THE WEB. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 BUICK LACROSSE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE SHOOK VIOLENTLY AND CAUSED THE CONTACT TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF A SECOND VEHICLE. THE FRONT PASSENGER SUFFERED A BROKEN NOSE AND RECEIVED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE RACK AND PINION WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT NO SOLUTION WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
THE IGNITION CONTROL MODULE (NOT THE IGNITION SWITCH) FAILED SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, CAUSING THE ENGINE TO SHUT OFF SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING. THE CAR WAS TRAVELING DOWNHILL, SO THE INITIAL INDICATION WAS LOSS OF POWER STEERING. I WAS ABLE TO PULL ONTO THE SHOULDER AND THEN REALIZED THAT THE ENGINE HAD DIED AND WOULD NOT RESTART. WHILE NO CRASH OR INJURY OCCURRED, THE POTENTIAL FOR A SERIOUS CRASH WAS QUITE HIGH. *TR
I HAVE HAD TWO ISSUES INVOLVING THE NEED TO REPLACE WHAT I UNDERSTAND TO BE THE PASSENGER PRESENCE AIRBAG SENSOR. THIS ITEM CONSISTS OF A COMPLETE ASSEMBLY, THE ACTUAL SEAT PASSENGER SENSOR/SCALE ASSEMBLE AND THE ASSOCIATED COMPUTER. AT ABOUT 18,500 WHILE DRIVING, THE PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND THEN GO OFF. THERE WAS A PASSENGER SETTING ON THE SEAT IN EXCESS OF 125 POUNDS WEARING A SEAT BELT. AFTER SEVERAL COMPLAINTS AND TESTS ,AT 24,008 MILES THE BUICK DEALER REPLACED AN ITEM LISTED ON THE WORK ORDER AS THE INFLATABLE RESTRAINT PASSENGER SEAT SUPPRESSION MODULE 19124100 MODULE KIT. AGAIN AFTER REPEATED COMPLAINTS AND TESTS AT 46,713 MILES THE BUICK DEALER INSTALLED AN ITEM LISTED ON THE WORK ORDER AS THE A PPS MODULE 19258127 REMANUFACTURED MODULE KIT. BY WHATEVER NAME THIS THE SECOND TIME A COMPLETE PASSENGER PRESENCE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY HAD TO BE REPLACED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. I CONSIDER THIS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE. IN THE FIRST INSTANCE WHEN THE MALFUNCTION OCCURRED THERE WAS NO AIR BAD PROTECTION FOR THE PASSENGER. IN THE LATTER CASE THERE WAS A COMPLETE AIRBAG SYSTEM FAILURE. THE FIRST REPLACEMENT WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTEE BUT THE SECOND REPLACEMENT I HAD TO PAY FOR MYSELF. INTERNET SEARCHES HAVE DISCLOSED THAT THERE ARE OTHER 2008 BUICK LACROSSE OWNERS WITH SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE AIRBAG MODULE FAILURE AND COST OF REPLACEMENT. IF BUICK USES PARTS SUBJECT TO REPEATED FAILURE THEIR REPLACEMENT SHOULD BE PAID FOR BY BUICK.
WHILE DRIVING, THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, FOLLOWED SHORTLY THEREAFTER BY THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT.THEN THE ENGINE BEGAN TO LOSE POWER AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL DID NOT WORK. A NOTICE APPEARED ON THE DASH CONTROL: "ENGINE POWER REDUCED" AND "SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL". IF I HELD THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL DOWN ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, AFTER ABOUT 5 SECONDS THE CAR BEGAN TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY. I COULD THEN MAINTAIN SPEED BY ALTERNATELY STEPPING ON AND RELEASING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL QUICKLY. ACCELERATING FROM A STOPLIGHT IS A VERY SLOW AND DISRUPTIVE (TO TRAFFIC) PROCESS. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES AND HAS FAILED SEVERAL ATTEMPTS AT REPAIR. ON SOME OCCASIONS, THE CAR HAS BEGUN TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN DURING THIS PERIOD OF MALFUNCTION, SUCH THAT I HAVE HAD TO RIDE THE BRAKE PEDAL. ON SOME OCCASIONS THIS PROBLEM HAS REMEDIED ITSELF AFTER A COUPLE OF DAYS, WITH TURNING THE ENGINE ON AND OFF TO REBOOT. THE PROBLEM CAN LAST FOR DAYS AT A TIME. I HAVE REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY SENSOR TO NO AVAIL. INTERESTINGLY, I ALSO OWNED (UNTIL LAST WEEK) A 2007 LACROSSE WHICH DOES THE EXACT SAME THING, AND HAS ALSO HAD THE THROTTLE BODY SENSOR REPLACED WITH NO LUCK. I HAVE SEEN MULTIPLE DESCRIPTIONS OF THIS BY PEOPLE ONLINE, DESCRIBING EXACTLY THE SAME CONDITIONS AND WARNINGS. THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE WHEN IT HAPPENS, AS I CANNOT SAFELY ACCELERATE IN BUSY TRAFFIC, AND THE CAR SLOWS DOWN TO SPEEDS UNSAFE FOR THE CONDITIONS. WHILE TRAVELING AT APPROX 20 MPH, THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED AUTOMATICALLY WHILE TURNING INTO A PARKING LOT. THE VEHICLE SPEED UP IN A MATTER OF 2 SECONDS AND WAS AT MUCH HIGHER SPEED WHEN SHE VEERED OFF INTO A BUSH. THE QUICK SPEED ACCELERATION OF THE VEHICLE WITHOUT OUT ANY ACTIVATION BY DRIVER IS OF GREAT CONCERN. DRIVER WAS STARTLED BY SUDDEN SPEED UP OF VEHICLE. FEELS THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED ON ITS OWN. SHE DID NOT TOUCH THE CRUISE CONTROL BUTTONS ON STEERING WHEEL AT ANY TIME. OWNERS DO NOT FEEL THE LOCATION OF THE CRUISE CONTROL BUTTONS ARE LOCATED IN GOOD SPOT. THE CRUISE CONTROL HAS ACTIVATED ON ITS OWN SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE PAST 4 YRS. OWNERS HAVE HAD DEALERSHIPS LOOK AT ISSUES. THEY HAVE BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL IN DUPLICATING OR RESOLVING THIS ISSUE. OVER THE LAST YEAR, THE AIRBAG READINESS LIGHT WOULD COME ON PERIODICALLY BUT WOULD GO OFF AFTER AUTO WAS RESTARTED. NOTED ON THE INTERNET THAT SOME OTHER 2008 LACROSSE OWNERS HAVE HAD SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE AIRBAG MODULE AND COST OF REPLACEMENT. CAR IS STATIONARY. AT APPROXIMATELY 50000 MI. (AND 6 YRS OF AGE) ALL FOUR DOOR LOCKS STARTED RANDOMLY AND INTERMITTENTLY STICKING. SYMPTOM IS THAT, ONCE INSIDE THE CAR AND DOORS ARE LOCKED, DOORS WILL NOT UNLOCK AND HANDLES DO DO NOT OPEN THE DOORS FROM THE INSIDE. SOLUTION WAS TO OPEN THE WINDOW AND ATTEMPT TO OPEN FROM OUTSIDE WHICH SOMETIMES WORKED. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. IF THERE IS AN ACCIDENT OR PASSENGERS ARE OTHERWISE IN DISTRESS, CANNOT EXIT THE CAR. HAVE SEEN REPEATED REPORTS OF THIS ISSUE WITH THIS CAR. SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. SAFETY ISSUE.

I TURNED RIGHT ONTO A VERY STEEPLY GRADED RURAL ROAD. THE ROAD HAS 3 SERVICE RAMPS TO A MAJOR HIGHWAY, RT 28N. IT ALSO HAS 1 ROAD THAT ALLOWS A R/L ACCESS TO BURTON AND A CROSS TRAFFIC ACCESS TO 28N. I HAD JUST STARTED THE DESCENT DOWN BURTON WHEN I NOTICED THE CAR BEGAN TO ACCELERATE. I APPLIED THE BRAKE TWICE TO REDUCE SPEED; IT WAS NON-RESPONSIVE. THE CAR CONTINUE TO SPEED DOWN THE HILL FOR APPROXIMATELY 3/4 MILE. THE CAR BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN ABOUT 1/2 MILE BEYOND THE ACCESS ROAD TO 28 N. WHEN I TRIED TO PULL OVER TO A GRAVEL/WEED "SHOULDER" I FOUND THAT THE POWER STEERING WAS ALSO OUT. I COULD NOT PULL COMPLETELY OFF THE ROAD, THUS CREATING A DANGER TO ANY CAR ON BURTON ROAD. WHEN I TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START. THE CAR WAS TOTALLY INOPERABLE. IT HAD TO BE TOWED 20 MILES TO THE DEALERSHIP LATE AT NIGHT. THE CAR HAD JUST PASSED THE 50K MILE BUICK INSPECTION. ON THREE PRIOR OCCASIONS, THOUGH, THERE WERE PROBLEMS WITH A WINDOW MALFUNCTION, AND TWO DOORS LATCHES ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THE SERVICE REPORT STATES THAT THE ENTIRE IGNITION COIL AND MODULE ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED ALONG WITH THE IGNITION MODULE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE SAME ASSEMBLY DESIGN WAS USED IN THE BUICK LESABRE, THE CHEVY IMPALA, AND ONE OTHER BUICK MODEL. BUICK APOLOGIZED FOR THE FAILURE OF THESE COMPONENTS AND FOR PUTTING ME AND MY PASSENGERS INTO WHAT WAS A LIFE THREATENING SITUATION. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF BAIERL CHEVROLET (A QUALITY DEALERSHIP AND SERVICE ORGANIZATION) THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED WITH OTHER OWNERS, BUT NONE HAD BEEN IN THE SITUATION I WAS IN. THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR FAILS REPEATEDLY (AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT COMES ON AND PASSENGER AIRBAG INDICATOR SWITCHES TO OFF) WHEN AN ADULT IS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND SEAT BELT IS SECURED. IT BEGAN HAPPENING ON RARE OCCASIONS, BUT HAS PROGRESSED TO EVERY TIME I HAVE A PASSENGER IN THE VEHICLE. IT USUALLY PERSISTS FOR ABOUT 20 MILES OR SO, AND THEN REVERTS BACK TO NORMAL. THE DEALER INVESTIGATED AND SAID THE REPLACEMENT PART WAS WELL OVER $1,000 AND THAT DID NOT INCLUDE THE LABOR. IT SEEMS THIS IS A FAIRLY COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS MAKE OF VEHICLE, AND WITH THE EXORBITANT COST OF A REPLACEMENT PART, GM NEED TO MAKE SOME ACCOMMODATIONS FOR THE OWNERS OF AFFECTED VEHICLES TO HAVE THE REPAIRS DONE AT A REASONABLE COST. *TR
UNDERHOOD FUSE BLOCK CAUGHT ON FIRE FROM THE HEADLAMP DRIVER MODULE MICRO-RELAY #35 MELTING DOWN. HEADLIGHTS WENT OFF AND THE BATTERY STARTED DRAINING. PULLED OVER, TURNED OFF THE CAR, AND OPENED THE HOOD TO DISCOVER THAT THE #35 MICRO-RELAY WAS ARCING AND HAD MELTED ITSELF TO MICRO-RELAYS #44 WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND #38 AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR. BOTH WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND AIR CONDITIONER WAS OFF AT THE TIME. EVEN THOUGH THE ENGINE WAS OFF THE RELAY CONTINUED TO ARC AND WAS MELTING THE UNDERHOOD FUSE BLOCK. GRABBED AN INSULATED SET OF PLIERS AND PULLED THE #35 MICRO-RELAY (THE #44 AND #38 RELAY CAME OUT AT THE SAME TIME). ARCING STOPPED WITH THE MICRO-RELAYS REMOVED. I HAVE FILED A PREVIOUS REPORT ON THE #35 HEADLAMP DRIVER MODULE MICRO-RELAY, BECAUSE IT HAD TURNED OFF THE LOW-BEAM HEADLIGHTS WHILE I WAS DRIVING, AT NIGHT, ON THE HIGHWAY. TURNING THE LIGHT SWITCH TO MANUAL-ON DID NOT TURN THE LOW-BEAM HEADLIGHTS BACK ON. I HAD THE #35 HEADLAMP DRIVER MODULE MICRO-RELAY REPLACED AND IT TOO PROVED TO BE DEFECTIVE. AFTER JUST A FEW MONTHS, IT STARTED TURNING ON THE HEADLIGHTS ABOUT 10 MINUTES AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED-OFF. HAD TO HAVE MY VEHICLE JUMP STARTED, REPLACED THE BATTERY, AND REPLACED THE #35 HEADLAMP DRIVER MODULE MICRO-RELAY, YET AGAIN. THE 3RD #35 HEADLAMP DRIVER MODULE MICRO-RELAY, CAUSED AN ELECTRICAL FIRE, COSTING ME OVER $700 TO REPAIR. APPARENTLY THERE IS NO FUSE TO PREVENT THE MELT-DOWN OF THE MICRO-RELAYS. THERE IS NO CAUTION, AND NO WARNING IN THE OWNERS MANUAL, TO ADVISE THE USER ABOUT WHAT TO DO IN THE CASE OF THE LOW-BEAM HEADLIGHTS SUDDENLY GOING OFF. THERE IS NO PROTECTION AGAINST AN ELECTRICAL FIRE BEING CAUSED BY THE #35 HEADLAMP DRIVER MODULE MICRO-RELAY, OR ANY OTHER RELAY FROM STARTING AN ELECTRICAL FIRE. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 BUICK LACROSSE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE DRIVER ENGAGED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL EMITTED A LOUD METAL NOISE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AND INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE BRAKE PADS, BRAKE DRUMS AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED. THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE FAILURE. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 52,000.

AIR BAG LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE PERIODICALLY WHEN THE PASSENGER SEAT IS OCCUPIED BY AN ADULT 125 LBS AND MORE WHO IS WEARING A SEAT BELT. IT RESETS WITH THE RESTART OF THE CAR OR SOMETIMES WILL JUST RESET ITSELF DURING THE TRAVEL. *TR
