STARTING TO BACK OUT OF DRIVEWAY AND WHEN APPLYING BRAKES THEY ARE STIFF AND BARELY WORKING AND REALLY HARD TO STOP CAR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CADILLAC CTS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINES PREMATURELY CORRODED WITH EXTENSIVE RUST AND WERE REPLACED MORE THAN TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE BRAKE LINES ONCE. THE CONTACT ALSO HAD AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE BRAKE LINES, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. WITHIN WEEKS, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED AND TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 10V105000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) AND 15V225000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED NO REMEDY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CADILLAC CTS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE JERKED BACKWARD AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE AND ONCE RESTARTED, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ADDITIONALLY, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE KEY WOULD BECOME STUCK IN THE IGNITION SWITCH OR WOULD BE DIFFICULT TO REMOVE. THE POWER WINDOWS ALSO FAILED AND WOULD OPEN AND CLOSE INDEPENDENTLY, AS WELL AS THE RADIO BECOMING INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION AND THE IGNITION SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS REPLACED BUT NOT THE TRANSMISSION. THE CONTACT LATER DISCOVERED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 14V394000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 119,000.
I HAVE A CADILLAC CTS FOR ABOUT TWO YEARS NOW AND JUST A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON THAT IT NEEDED TO BE SERVICED AND I TOOK IT TO A DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE PASSENGER AIR BAG THAT IT WOULD COST ME APPROX: 649.38 DOLLARS AND I HAVE SEEN WHERE SOME OF THE CADILLAC CTS HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND THE DEALER REPAIRED SOME OF THE RECALLED CARS BUT THE DEALER ADVISED ME NOT TO DRIVE IT DUE TO THAT IF WE HAD A CRASH THE AIR BAGS MAY NOT DEPLOY AND I HAVE NO OTHER VECHILE TO DRIVE I HAVE A WIFE AND THREE KIDS THAT RIDE IN THIS CAR AND I CANT AFFORD TO HAVE THE SERVICE PERFORMED I JUST WANT TO KNOW HOW CAN THEY PERFORM RECALLS ON CERTIAN VECHILES IS IT SO THEY WILL FIX HALF OF THEM AND THE OTHER HALF WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO GET THE SERVICE DONE TO HELP MAKE UP FOR THE MONEY THEY LOST DUE TO THE RECALL ALSO I HAVE A CAR THE DEALER DONT WANT ME TO DRIVE I HAVE BABIES AND DOCTOR APPTS THAT THEY HAVE TO BE TAKEN TO. AND IF I WAS TO HAVE TO TAKE MY KIDS TO A DOC APPT AND SOMEONE HIT ME AND THE AIRBAGS DIDNT DEPLOY AND SOMEONE GOT KILLED I PRAY NOT BUT WHO TO SAY IT WOULDNT BE A LAWSUIT BECAUSE SOME ARE RECALLED AND SOME NOT AND NOW THEY WANT TO CHARGE A ARM AND A LEG TO GET THE PROBLEM RESOLVED I DON'T THINK ITS FAIR WE SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR A PROBLEM LIKE THIS PLUS HOW CAN WE AFFORD IT WHENEVER OUR WONDERFUL STATE PAYS US MINIMUM WAGE AND THE COST OF LIVING IS OUTRAGEOUS. *TR

AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC STATED THAT THE WIPER MODULE WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 190,000.
THE BACK REAR IS MAKING A LOUD NOISING, LIKE THERE ARE BIG TIRES ON THE CAR. THE MECHANIC SAID ITS THE PINION SEAL. I LOOKED UP THE ISSUE AND THERE IS A RECALL ON THE PINION SEAL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CADILLAC CTS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED ABNORMALLY TO THE FLOORBOARD WHEN IT WAS DEPRESSED. THE BRAKE PEDAL REQUIRED EXCESSIVE FORCE AND THE BRAKE FLUID WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE'S STOPPING DISTANCE WAS DELAYED DUE TO THE FAILURES. THE FAILURES OCCURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE HOSE-TUBE INTERFACE WAS LEAKING AND THE HOSE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V105000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
2005 CADILLAC CTS. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO BRAKE SYSTEM REPAIR ISSUES. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE BRAKE FAILED AND ESSENTIALLY SHE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, HIT A GUARDRAIL AND ANOTHER VEHICLE AFTER BOUNCING OFF THE GUARDRAIL. PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT, WORK WAS PERFORMED ON THE ABS DASH LIGHT, SEVERAL TIMES. *JB *CN
PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR WOULD NOT COME ON WITH PASSENGER IN SEAT. LOOKED UP AND THERE WAS A RECALL. CALLED CADILLAC AND WAS TOLD NO RECALL
VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY USED KEY TO UNLOCK DOORS. ONCE VEHICLE WAS STARTED A MESSAGE DISPLAYED ON THE SCREEN TO "SERVICE THEFT SYSTEM" AND GUAGES IN VEHICLE NO LONGER WORKED. I WAS AT A STORE WHEN THIS HAPPENED SO I PRECEED WITH MY TRIP AS I STARTED DRIVING CAR WAS HESITATING TO DRIVE, I THEN PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE CAR OFF... KEY WAS STUCK IN IGNITION AND CAR WOULD NO LONGER START...

THE CONTACT RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION FOR RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V394000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); HOWEVER, THE PART WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 149,497.
SHIFTING GEARS WAS ACCOMPANIED BY CLUNKING IN REAR DIFFERENTIAL. THIS OCCURRED WHEN SHIFTING OR WHEN LETTING OFF THE ACCELERATOR. IN MARCH OF 2014 A WHINING ALSO ACCOMPANIED DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 50 - 70 MPH. MY CADILLAC DEALER REPLACED THE DIFFERENTIAL WITH A NEW ONE UNDER A PRIVATE WARRANTY PROGRAM. WITHIN 2 WEEKS THE DIFFERENTIAL WAS AGAIN MAKING THE SAME NOISES. DEALER SAID THAT CADILLAC WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE PROBLEM. NOTE: SERVICING MECHANIC NOTED AFTER CHANGING THE DIFFERENTIAL FLUID, THAT THE FLUID TAKEN FROM THE NEWLY INSTALLED DIFFERENTIAL WAS BURNT BLACK. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN: 10V644000 (AIR BAGS). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 144,000.
CLUNKING SOUND AND FEEL FROM REAR AXLE WHEN SHIFTING GEARS . APPEARS TO BE GETTING WORSE. *TR
DRIVING FROM A SIDE ROAD ONTO THE 505 FREEWAY, VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP ON THE SLOW LANE. WAS TOWED TO A CADILLAC DEALER. 1/6/14. REPLACED LEFT AND RIGHT CATALYTIC CONVERTER. SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED 1/27/2014. DRIVING ONTO I-80. EXACT PROBLEM OCCURRED AND WAS TOWED TO SAME CADILLAC DEALER. DEALER ADJUSTED THROTTLE BODY. AM CONCERNED IF PROBLEM HAS BEEN RESOLVED.. *TR
WOKE UP IN THE MORNING TO GO TO WORK AFTER A COLD NIGHT. STARTED THE VEHICLE AND PUT IT IN REVERSE AND WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL WITHOUT EXTREME EFFORT. CHECKED POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL THE RESERVOIR WAS EMPTY. OBTAINED APPROPRIATE GM POWER STEERING FLUID AND REFILLED RESERVOIR ONLY TO HAVE IT LEAK OUT IN A MATTER OF HOURS. I HAVE HAD THE CAR ONLY 76 DAYS AND THERE WAS NO FOREWARNING. LITERALLY HAPPENED OVERNIGHT. *TR

THERE WAS A NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V644000 (AIR BAGS) THAT COULD HAVE BEEN RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 119,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CADILLAC CTS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE RADIATOR FAILED AND CAUSED COOLANT TO LEAK INTO THE TRANSMISSION. AS A RESULT, THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION BOTH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 86,000.
THE ENGINE LIGHT FLASHES ON FOR 2 SECONDS, THEN THE CAR DECELERATES FOR SECONDS, AND THEN ALL IS OKAY. THIS MAY HAPPEN SEVERAL TIMES IN A ROW WITHIN 5 TO 10 MINUTES. WE FIRST HAD THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR REPLACED, AS SUGGESTED. THEN THIS HAPPENED 4 MORE TIMES, WHEREAS WE TOOK IT TO A DEALER WHO COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. IT'S HARD TO FEEL SAFE WHILE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE AS IT'S HAPPENED AT MAJOR INTERSECTIONS AND ALSO IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL BECAME ABNORMALLY DARK, THE FUEL GAUGE FAILED TO READ THE FUEL LEVEL AND THE KEY COULD NOT BE RELEASED FROM THE IGNITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE SECURITY SYSTEM FAILED AND COULD POSSIBLY CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO STALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 06V020000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 48,392.
THE INSTRUMENT PANEL STOPPED OPERATING, DIFFERENT MECHANICS COULD NOT LOCATE PROBLEM, CADILLAC DEAL WANTED 200.00 JUST TO REVIEW. SEVERAL OWNERS OF SAME MOCEL HAVING SAME PROBLEM. DEALEARS REFUSE TO CORRECT OR EVEN LOOK AT THE CAUSE WITHOUT CUSTOMERS PAYING FOR SERVICE CALL. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR, AS OTHERS HAVING SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN TOLD IT'S FAULTY ELECTRICAL CLUSTER IN INSTRUMENT PANEL AND CAR IS NOW OUT OF WARRENTY, BUT WAS WITHING WARRANTY AT TIME OF OCCURANCE, I FAILED TO TAKE TO DEALER IN TIMELY MANNER. CAN ANYTHING BE DO NE ABOUT THIS. I NOW HAVE 87,000 MILES ON CAR. *TR
ENGINE QUIT WITHOUT ANY WARNING (NOISE, ENGINE WARNING LIGHT) GOING 55MPH DOWN HIGHWAY. ENGINE IS RUINED. I BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW AND KEPT IT FOR ALMOST 8 YEARS. I HAD ALL ROUTINE AND RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE DONE BY DEALER. I SOLD THIS TO MY FRIEND WHO THIS HAPPENED TO. I HAVE DETERMINED THIS WAS PROBABLY CAUSED BY THE GM RECOMMENDED 10,000 MILES OIL CHANGE. ENGINE FAILURES APPARENTLY HAVE BEEN HAPPENING FOR QUITE SOME TIME ACCORDING TO THE INTERNET AND GM OR MY DEALERSHIP NEVER ONCE TOLD ME TO HAVE THE OIL CHANGED SOONER OR WARNED ME ABOUT THIS. I FEEL THIS IS A REAL SAFETY HAZARD. IF I WOULD HAVE PULLED OUT ON THE FREEWAY WHERE I NORMALLY DO TO BLEND INTO 70 MPH TRAFFIC AND THE ENGINE WOULD HAVE FAILED, I WOULD HAVE HAD NO PLACE TO PULL OVER AND COAST TO A STOP AS THERE ISN'T A SHOULDER FOR SEVERAL YARDS. I COULD HAVE VERY WELL BEEN HIT FROM THE REAR AND A CHAIN REACTION ACCIDENT WITH POTENTIAL LOSS OF LIFE COULD HAVE OCCURRED. *TR
THE EMERGENCY BRAKE DOES NOT WORK. I PRESS IT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE WILL ROLL STILL. IT SEEMS THERE IS NO EMERGENCY BRAKE AT ALL. *TR
VEHICLE STOPPED DETECTING PERSON SITTING IN PASSENGER FRONT SEAT. PASSENGER AIRBAG REMAINS OFF WHEN THERE IS A PASSENGER. SERVICE MESSAGE APPEARS ON DASH STATING TO SERVICE AIRBAG. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD CAUSE THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG TO NOT DEPLOY IN AN ACCIDENT. THERE IS A RECALL ON 2005-2007 CADILLAC CTS MODELS HOWEVER, THERE IS NO RECALL ON MINE FOR SOME REASON. THERE IS NOTHING THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THIS ISSUE OTHER THAN FAULTY EQUIPMENT THAT SHOULD BE RECOGNIZED BY GM. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN IT FELT LIKE SOMEONE HAD HIT US FROM BEHIND EXCEPT THERE WAS NO ONE THERE. I SAW SMOKE COMING FROM THE BACK END OF CAR AND IT SMELLED LIKE SOMETHING WAS BURNING. I PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE AND STOPPED MY VEHICLE. AFTER STOPPING THE CAR IT I COULD NO LONGER GET IT TO MOVE FORWARD. IT ACTED LIKE IT WAS NOT ABLE TO GO INTO GEAR. HAD A TOW TRUCK HAUL IT HOME FROM EL CENTRO, CALIF TO YUMA, AZ. THE CAR HAD TO LITERALLY BE DRAGGED ONTO THE TOW TRUCK CAUSE THE REAR WHEELS WERE FROZEN IN PLACE. LUCKILY THE WHEELS DIDN'T CEASE WHILE WE WERE STILL MOVING. AFTER REMOVAL OF DIFFERENTIAL WE DISCOVERED IT WAS BONE DRY. I HAD REPLACE A BUSHING NOT TO LONG AGO BUT SAW NO SIGN OF LEAKS. I PURCHASED THE 2005 CTS NEW FROM A DEALER IN YUMA AND NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTICE OF A RECALL FOR THE SEALS. OR FOR ANYTHING. *TR
VEHICLE SHUTTERS/HESITATES (LIKE THE BRAKES ARE ENGAGING) AND THEN JERKS VIOLENTLY TO THE RIGHT INTO NEXT LANE. "SERVICE STABILITY SYS" MESSAGE COMES ON AND THEN GOES OFF. CADILLAC DEALER KEEPS "FIXING" IT AND CHARGING. PROBLEM RETURNS AGAIN WITHIN DAYS SOMETIMES HOURS. INTERNET IS LOADED WITH FOLKS WITH EXACT SAME PROBLEM AND CADILLAC SAYS THERE ARE NO RECALLS AND THEY CAN'T DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM UNLESS THEY CAN DUPLICATE THE ISSUE WHILE A TECH IS DRIVING IT. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR. ANOTHER DRIVER ALMOST DROVE UP ON THE CURB WHEN HE HAD TO PULL AWAY FROM MY CAR MOVING UNEXPECTEDLY INTO HIS LANE. ALL OF THIS INFORMATION HAS BEEN SHARED WITH THE DEALER REPAIR DEPARTMENT. *JS

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V105000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. A FEW WEEKS AFTER MY LATEST OIL CHANGE I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY IN SEMI CROWDED CONDITIONS WHEN THE CAR STARTED BUCKING. THE CAR SLOWED AND I HAD TO AVOID TRAFFIC AND ALMOST WAS HIT AS THE CAR WOULD NOT RESPOND, WAS SCARED TO DEATH. I THOUGHT IT WAS A TRANSMISSION ISSUE BUT WHEN I CALLED THE MECHANIC HE KNEW WHAT IT WAS RIGHT AWAY, HE SAID CHECK YOUR OIL AND I DID AND IT WAS NEAR EMPTY. NO OIL IN MY GARAGE, NO OIL IN MY WORK PARKING SPOT, NO VISIBLE LEAKS, BUT ALL THE OIL GONE. IT JUST HAPPENED FOR A SECOND TIME AND WHEN I LOOKED FOR COMPLAINTS ON THE CAR IT IS THE SAME ISSUE TIME AND TIME AGAIN. HOW IS CADILLAC NOT HELD RESPONSIBLE TO THE DRIVING PUBLIC FOR THIS SAFETY ISSUE. HOW MANY MUST DIE BEFORE IT IS RECALLED? *TR
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK WHEN THE SECURITY LIGHT CAME ON THE DASH AND A "SERVICE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM" MESSAGE CAME ON THE RADIO. THE ENTIRE DASH QUIT WORKING, RADIO WENT OFF, POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING AND I WAS DRIVING WITHOUT KNOWING HOW FAST I WAS GOING OR WHAT WAS GOING ON. AFTER I GOT THE CAR HOME AND PARKED IT, I SHUT IT OFF AND CAME INSIDE. WHEN I WENT OUT THE NEXT MORNING TO START IT, NOTHING HAPPENED. THE DASH LIGHTS UP, EVERYTHING WORKS BUT THE GAS GAUGE AND TEMPERATURE GAUGE, BUT THE CAR DOESN'T START OR EVEN ATTEMPT TO TURN OVER. THE SECURITY MESSAGE AND SERVICE AIR BAG MESSAGE SHOWS ON THE RADIO. I WAS TOLD THAT IT MAY BE THE KEY SO I PURCHASED A NEW ONE FROM MOSES CADILLAC AND ATTEMPTED IT BUT A NEW MESSAGE CAME UP "IGNITION START DISABLED, REMOVE KEY." I CAN'T DO ANYTHING WITH IT, THE ENTIRE CAR IS LOCKED UP AND WON'T START SO I CAN'T EVEN GET IT TO THE DEALER TO BE LOOKED AT. WHEN YOU'RE IN IT AND TURN THE KEY ON ALL THE DOORS LOCK, YOU CAN HEAR THE FUEL PUMP START, AND NOTHING ELSE. THE KEY LOCKS ITSELF INTO THE IGNITION, I HAD TO ACCESS THE MANUAL RELEASE TO GET IT OUT OF THE CAR. *TR

WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT WITH THE WHEELS TURNED SHARPLY, THE BRAKING BECAME ROUGH AND THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP WITHOUT SIGNIFICANT PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THIS WAS THE 5TH TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. EACH TIME IT OCCURS AT LOW SPEED WHEN THE WHEEL IS TURNED SHARPLY. BRAKE INDICATOR LIGHTS DO NOT GO ON. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY UNDER NORMAL OPERATING CONDITIONS, MY PROPERLY MAINTAINED AND UNMODIFIED 2005 CADILLAC CTS CAUGHT FIRE. THE FIRE CAUSED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THE DRIVE TRAIN AND FUEL TANK WITH THE PLASTIC FUEL TANK SECONDS AWAY FROM BEING TOTALLY BREACHED BY FLAMES AND LIKELY SIGNIFICANT INJURIES INCLUDING DEATH. THE FIRE BURNED FOR 30-40 MINUTES UNTIL THE RESPONDING FIREFIGHTERS WERE ABLE TO JACK UP THE VEHICLE AND EXTINGUISH THE FIRE WITH WATER FROM UNDERNEATH. FORTUNATELY, THE FIREFIGHTERS WERE ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE VEHICLE FIRE PRIOR TO THE FUEL TANK BREACH WITH NO APPARENT RELATED INJURIES. PURSUANT TO AN EXPERT ANALYSIS AND REPORT, THE FOLLOWING MANUFACTURING AND/OR DESIGN DEFECTS SEQUENTIALLY CAUSED SAID FIRE: 1. WHILE DRIVING, THE REAR CARRIER PINION BEARING FAILED; 2. FAILED CARRIER PINION CAUSED EXCESSIVE PLAY IN THE PINION GEAR; 3. EXCESSIVE PLAY IN THE PINION GEAR CAUSED FAILURE OF THE PINION GEAR SEAL IN THE RING AND PINION HOUSING; 4. FAILED PINION GEAR SEAL ALLOWED THE REAR CARRIER LUBRICANT TO LEAK; 5. WITH VEHICLE IN MOTION, REAR CARRIER LUBRICANT CONTACTED ROTATING DRIVESHAFT ASSEMBLY; 6. ROTATING DRIVESHAFT AND PINION YOKE "SPRAYED" LUBRICANT IN THE REAR AXLE HOUSING AREA INCLUDING ONTO EXHAUST, PLASTIC FUEL TANK, RUBBER DRIVESHAFT COUPLER AND FLOOR PAN; 7. HEAT FROM EXHAUST OR PINION GEAR IGNITED LUBRICANT & SUBSEQUENT FIRE QUICKLY SPREAD ACROSS THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE. EXPERT REPORT CONCLUDED THAT MANUFACTURING AND / OR DESIGN DEFECTS WERE PREVIOUSLY WELL-DOCUMENTED BY NHSA 2005 CADILLAC CTS NHSA OWNER COMPLAINTS AND SAID FIRE COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED BY VEHICLE MANUFACTURER THROUGH RECALL NOTICES AND USE OF NON-COMBUSTIBLE MATERIALS.

THE DEALER SUGGESTED PERFORMING AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST, BUT THE TEST WAS NOT PERFORMED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000.

IN ADDITION, THERE WERE TWO HOLES IN THE ENGINE BLOCK AND NO OIL IN THE ENGINE. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENGINE AT A COST OF $6000. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO FILED A CLAIM ON BEHALF OF THE CONTACT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000.
A PASSENGER (6'2" 200 LB.) MAN SAT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND AS RESULT, THE PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT WENT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. I FIGURED IT WAS A SENSOR THAT MUST HAVE SNAPPED OR COME LOOSE. I WENT TO CADILLAC DEALER AND THEY CHARGE $140. TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND THEN WANTED ANOTHER $300 TO REPAIR IT. AT NO TIME DID THEY TELL ME THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS TYPE OF INCIDENT. I JUST CALLED THE NUMBER FOR CADILLAC LISTED ON THE RECALL WEBSITE AND SPOKE WITH SOMEONE, WHO AFTER I GAVE HIM THE VIN NUMBER ON THE CAR, SAID MY CAR WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. HE RECOMMENDED THAT I CALL THE DEALER AND HAVE THAT TAKEN CARE OF...ON MY DIME. IT SEEMS RIDICULOUS THAT I SHOULD GET STUCK PAYING FOR THIS. THIS IS WHY I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER GM CAR AND MANY PEOPLE THAT I SPEAK WITH, HAVE PURCHASED MERCEDES AND OTHER FOREIGN MADE CARS. APPARENTLY CADILLAC DOES NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS. IN NOVEMBER 2011 I COULD NOT TAKE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION OF MY CAR.THEN IN 2012 THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED ON ABOUT THE SAME MONTH, COSTING ME A LITTLE UNDER $900.00 BOTH TIMES.THE PROBLEM MENTION WAS STATED INTERNAL FAILURE OF ENGINE CONTROL MODULE.THE MODULE COMPUTER CHIP, WENT OUT BOTH TIMES. NOW I AM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR SHAKING AFTER REFUELING AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. I UNDERSTAND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL OF THIS MODEL CAR IN 2010. AIR BAGS WERE REPAIRED 10/10/11, RECALL #10355. THIS WAS DONE AT MY OWN EXPENSE. THE AIR BAG INDICATOR IS ONCE AGAIN ON. I WAS NOT REIMBURSED FOR THE FIRST REPAIR. I WOULD VERY MUCH LIKE TO HAVE THIS CORRECTED BY THE MANUFACTURE, WITHOUT ANY PERSONAL EXPENSE.
