TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CADILLAC SRX. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE VIBRATED, THE WHEELS SEIZED, AND THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STABILITY SENSOR AT THE END OF THE STEERING COLUMN AND A SENSOR IN THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 146,152. WE PURCHASED A SET OF FOUR TIRES FROM THE SAME COMPANY ON THE SAME DAY THEY WERE PUT ON. THE MANUFACTURER IS GENERAL, P255/60R17 WHICH ARE THE REAR TIRES FOR A CADILLAC SRX 2004. BOTH TIRES WERE THE SAME, ONE CURRENTLY HAS THE BELTS SHOWING ON THE RIGHT REAR TIRE, THE OTHER IS FINE. THE PEOPLE WHO SOLD THEM TO US SAID THE WARRANTY IS NOT VALID BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T ROTATED. THEY SAID SIX MONTHS AGO WHEN WE WANTED THEM ROTATED, THAT THEY COULDN'T DO THAT, BECAUSE OF THE DIFFERENT SIZES, WE ASKED FOR THEM TO BE ROTATED FROM SIDE TO SIDE, THEY WANTED TO CHARGE FOR THIS, THEY NO LONGER SELL THIS BRAND OF TIRE. THE TIRES ONLY HAVE 23,000 MILES ON THEM WHEN WE TOOK THE CAR IN THIS PAST MONDAY OCT. 11, 2010. THEY SAID THIS IS NORMAL WEAR FOR THE RIGHT REAR TIRE. 2004 CADILLAC SRX HAS "SERVICE STABILITY CONTROL" MESSAGE COME UP AND READING SEVERAL FORUMS, SEEMS TO BE A COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH THESE VEHICLES. FROM WHAT I'VE READ, THE CONDITION GETS WORSE TO THE POINT OF ENDANGERING THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL TO FIX THIS PROBLEM BEFORE PEOPLE START GETTING INJURED. ALSO KEEP GETTING "CHECK TIRE PRESSURE" WARNING WITHOUT THE TIRES BEING LOW. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CADILLAC SRX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TPMS WARNING INDICATOR WOULD ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY PLACED AIR IN THE TIRE. SOON AFTERWARDS, THE TIRE CONTINUED TO LOSE AIR PRESSURE. HE RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND THEY DISCOVERED A ONE INCH FRACTURE IN THE RIM, WHICH CAUSED THE TIRE TO FAIL. THE TECHNICIAN ALSO CONCLUDED THAT THERE WAS NO EXTERNAL FORCE, SUCH AS A CRASH ONTO A CURB, THAT CAUSED THE WHEEL TO BEGIN CRACKING ON THE INSIDE. THE RIMS ARE THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT. THE CONTACT IS IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 81,037. UPDATED 11/17/08 *CN UPDATED 11/24/08.*JB
DT: THE CONTACT STATED TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SENSORS WERE DEFECTIVE. THE MANUFACTURERS RECOMMENDED TIRE PRESSURE BE 32 PSI . HOWEVER, WITHIN 24 HOURS THE SENSORS SUGGESTED THE PRESSURE DROPPED IN ALL FOUR TIRES. THIS CAUSED THE WARNING LIGHTS TO ILLUMINATE, SIGNALING LOW TIRE PRESSURE. THE SENSORS PROVIDED A FALSE READING WHICH ALERTED THE CONTACT THAT AIR SHOULD BE ADDED TO THE TIRES. THIS CAUSED IMPROPER PRESSURE TO BE ADDED, RESULTING IN OVER INFLATION. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM. EACH TIME THE DEALER CALIBRATED THE SENSORS. THIS PROCEDURE TEMPORARILY REMEDIES THE PROBLEM. *AK
