PURCHASED 2000 BLAZER 11/24/00. MANY PROBLEMS SINCE. TRANSMISSION COOLER LINE, WARRANTY REPAIR. OIL COOLER LINES, UPPER AND LOWER, WARRANTY REPAIR. WARRANTY EXPIRED AND THEY ARE LEAKING STILL. PROBLEM NEVER REALLY FIXED. IDLER ARM, WARRANTY REPAIR. DRIVER SIDE RECLINE HANDLE DRIVER SEAT FELL BACK WOULD NOT RETURN TO UPRIGHT POSITION, WARRANTY REPAIR. BOTH FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS AND ROTORS, WARRANTY REPAIR. FROM DAY 1 NUMEROUS RATTLES AND SQUEAKS. DOOR PANELS RATTLE CONSTANTLY. PASSENGER SEAT RATTLES AND SQUEAKS. WINDSHIELD WIPER ENTIRE ARM CAME OFF, REPAIRED AT MY EXPENSE. OUT OF WARRANTY, AT 41,699 MILES BUT NOT EVEN (2) YEARS OLD, TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REBUILT AT MY EXPENSE. CHEVY CUSTOMER SERVICE IS A JOKE! COST OF TRANSMISSION $2,442 AND THE COST OF A TWO WEEK CAR RENTAL. EVEN WHEN TRANSMISSION LINE HAD TO BE REPAIRED WE HAD TO RENT A CAR AT OUR EXPENSE BECAUSE LOCAL DEALER REFUSED TO SUPPLY A LOANER. AGAIN CHEVY CUSTOMER SERVICE A JOKE! CALLED CHEVY HOT LINE/HELP LINE AND WAS JUST GIVEN THE RUN AROUND. I WILL NEVER BUY CHEVY AMERICAN MADE AUTO AGAIN. WHY IS IT YOU CAN BUY ANY ITEM AT MOST DEPARTMENT STORES AND TAKE IT BACK AND RECEIVE SATISFACTION, BUT SPEND $25,000+ FOR A CHEVY PRODUCT AND YOU ARE SCREWED WHEN YOU SIMPLY WANT THE RELIABILITY AND SERVICE YOU WERE PROMISED. AFTER PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE NEW FOR OVER $26, 000, WE BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS IMMEDIATELY. FORTUNATELY, THESE REPAIRS (INCLUDING 4 WD FAILURE 3 X) WERE COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY. HOWEVER, WHEN THE TRUCK WAS DIAGNOSED W/ TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AT 34,000 MILES, WE BEGAN TO WORRY. I CONTACTED GM AT THAT TIME AND BEGGED THEM TO CONSIDER EXTENDING THE WARRANTY. WHILE BEING EXTREMELY PLEASANT, THE ULTIMATE DECISION WAS "NO". THIS WAS BASED ON THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE SERVICE MANAGER, GREG. HE STATED THAT THERE WAS NO REASON TO EXTEND THE WARRANTY, AS THE PROBLEMS HAD ALL BEEN FIXED. UNFORTUNATELY, THEY HAD NOT! THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 55,000 MILES WHILE DOING 55 MPH, ON AN ENTRANCE RAMP TO A MAJOR HIGHWAY. WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE, THE TRUCK MADE A HORRIBLE NOISE AND WOULD NO LONGER SHIFT INTO 2ND OR 3RD GEAR. AFTER CAREFULLY DRIVING IT TO A SAFE PLACE, I DISCOVERED THAT REVERSE WAS OUT AS WELL. I CONTACTED GREG AT THE DEALERSHIP IMMEDIATELY, AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS NO LONGER COVERED. I THEN CONTACTED GM, AND AGAIN, WHILE BEING EXTREMELY PLEASANT, THEY HAVE NOT COMMITTED TO REPLACING OR EVEN HELPING TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. THIS IS THE 1ST AMERICAN CAR I HAVE EVER OWNED AND WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER. IT IS MY FEELING THAT GM KNOWS THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM, BUT IS UNWILLING TO STEP UP AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. SHOULDN'T A 4 WD VEHICLE HAVE A TRANSMISSION THAT LASTS PAST 100,000! NOT TO MENTION 4 WD THAT ACTUALLY WORKS! DT

CONSUMER ADVISED THAT THE DRIVER' SEAT RECLINER HANDLE HAS BROKEN THREE TIMES. WHEN THE HANDLE BREAKS, CONSUMER IS UNABLE TO PROPERLY ADJUST SEATING POSITION. TS
WHEN LIFTING REAR HATCHBACK WINDOW POPPED UP. WHEN CLOSING WINDOW ON THE WAY DOWN, IT SHATTERED INTO PIECES, GLASS FLEW EVERY WHERE. DEALER CONTACTED.*AKJLG
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN I HEARD A LOUD POP. FOUND OUT THE TRANSMISSION HAD GONE FOR REVERSE, SECOND AND THIRD GEARS. THE CLUTCHES (AUTOMATIC) HAD BEEN REPLACED IN OCTOBER 2001 AND NOW THEY HAD BLOWN. MECHANIC SAID THIS WAS A COMMON ISSUE AMONG NEW BLAZERS. GM AT FIRST INDICATED THEY WOULD CONSIDER HELPING OUT IF THE DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AND THEN CHANGED STORIES TO SAY THAT THEY WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING UNTIL THE DEALERSHIP FIXED THE PROBLEM AND THEN THEY WOULD CONSIDER IT; HOWEVER, IT WASN'T LIKELY. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION SHOULDN'T HAVE TWO IDENTICAL MAJOR ISSUES WITHIN 15,000 MILES OF EACH OTHER. UNFORTUNATELY, THE FIRST REPAIR WAS ONLY UNDER WARRANTY FOR 12 MONTHS/12,000 MILES. GM NEEDS TO STEP UP TO THE PLATE.
WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK AND WITH NO WARNING HATCHBACK RELEASE BUTTON WILL NOT WORK, AND CONSUMER IS UNABLE TO OPEN HATCHBACK DOOR, EVEN WHEN USING KEY. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK

THE GAS PEDAL STICKS 75% OF THE TIME UPON INITIAL ACCELERATION, WHETHER THAT IS FROM A STOPPED POSITION OR ACCELERATING AFTER SLOWING. THE STICKING IS SUCH THAT FORCE HAS TO BE EXERTED TO GET THE PEDAL TO DEPRESS THEREBY CAUSING LURCHING OF THE VEHICLE. IN PARKING LOT SITUATIONS OR ON ICY ROADS THIS CAN BE POTENTIALLY VERY DANGEROUS. ALSO, BOTH FRONT SEAT ADJUSTERS THAT ALLOW THE SEAT TO BE REPOSITIONED HAVE BROKEN OFF WHILE TRYING TO REPOSTION THE SEAT. WHEN WE REPORTED THESE ITEMS TO OUR DEALER THEY SAID THESE ARE COMMON PROBLEMS THEY ARE SEEING FREQUENTLY. IF THIS IS SO I FEEL IT IS A DEFECT OF THE MANUFACTURER. THE SEAT LEVERS WERE PLASTIC PAINTED TO LOOK LIKE METAL AND BOTH BROKE OFF WITHIN A WEEK OF EACH OTHER. DT

DEALER NOTIFIED.*JB CONSUMER ADDS VEHICLE WAS STRUCK HEAD ON BY AN OUT OF CONTROL VEHICLE TRAVELING 45 MILES. THE RIGHT FRONT FENDER CONTACTED SQUARELY AGAINST CONSUMERS FRONT BUMPER. RESULTING IMPACT TOTALLED CONSUMERS BLAZER. INSPECTORS WERE AMAZED THAT AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *TT
STEERING LOWER BALL JOINT WAS UNSTABLE. *AKTHERE IS SERIOUS VIBRATION, LOOSE STEERING. THE TIRES FEEL BOUNCY. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT PASS INPECTION AT THE DEALERSHIP. *JG
LEFT FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL BUCKLED UNDERNEATH THE CAR. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A MECHANIC. MECHANIC STATED, THE UPPER CONTROL ARM WAS BROKEN. *AKTHE UPPER BALL JOINT BROKE. THE SENSOR, SHEILD AND A NEW WHEEL WERE ALL DAMAGED. THERE WAS NO WARNING GIVEN TO CONSUMER PRIOR TO FAILURE. *JG
I PURCHASED MY 2000 BLAZER IN 6/20/02 FROM A CHEVY DEALER IN PA . I PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY . I HAVE UNTIL 6/07 OR100000 MILES I HAVE REPLACED THE COIL AND DISTRIBUTOR CAP AND ROTOR 5 TIMES A NEW FUEL PUMP A CATALYTIC CONVERTER WINDSHIELD WASHER MOTOR AND TURN SIGNAL SWITCH IT HAS GOTTEN TO THE POINT THAT I CAN'T EVEN SELL IT TO ANYONE PRIVATE AND I CAN'T AFFORD TO KEEP IT . THERE HAS BEEN ELECTRICAL AND COMPUTER ISSUES SHORTS THAT MELTED THE FUSE BOX UNDER THE HOOD THAT MELTED THE RELAY FOR THE FUEL PUMP. ALSO THERE WAS A SHORT THAT WIPED THE COMPUTER CODES OUT AND I HAD A ROUGH TIME PASSING EMISSION TESTING I AM AT THE POINT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY DOES NOT WANT TO SPEND ANY MORE ON THE VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD THE MOTOR MOUNTS REPLACED TWICE IN 4 YEARS. I HAVE NEVER BEEN NOTIFIED OF ANY RECALLS ORSERVICE NOTICES . I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE SERVICED BY LICENSED MECHANICS AND HAD IT SERVICED AT THE APPROPRIATE MILEAGE REQUIRED FOR THE WARRANTY. *NM
FRONT END PROBLEMS, AND SECURITY LIGHT STAYING ON. *JB
DT: THREE YEARS AGO THE PROBLEM BEGAN. THE OWNER PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE STREET AND WHEN THE HAZARD LIGHTS WERE TURNED OFF THEN BRAKES WENT OFF AS WELL AND WOULD NOT COME BACK ON. THE MAIN TAIL LIGHTS AND BRAKE LIGHTS DID NOT WORK ANYMORE. THERE WAS A RECALL AND THE OWNER DID NOT RECEIVE THE RECALL NOTICE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE AND THE HAZARD LIGHT SWITCH WAS REPLACED. THE NEXT TIME THE HAZARD LIGHTS WERE USED, THE BRAKE LIGHTS STOPPED WORKING AGAIN. THIS HAPPENED ABOUT TEN MONTHS AFTER THE FIRST FAILURE. THEN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER, THEY WERE WILLING TO REPAIR THE HAZARD LIGHTS AT A COST OF $500. THERE SEEMED TO BE NO INDICATION FROM THE DEALERSHIP AS TO WHY THESE HAZARDS LIGHTS KEPT FAILING. THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN CONTACTED BY THE OWNER AT LEAST 7 TIMES IN LAST MONTH AND A HALF. THE OWNER ATTEMPTED TO WORK IT OUT WITH GM 10 TIMES IN THE LAST MONTH AND A HALF. *AK *SC

GAS GAUGE READS FULL WITH LESS THAN 1/2 TANK. I ALSO OWN A 1997 S-10 WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. RESET THE TRIP ODOMETER AFTER FILL-UP WITH BOTH OF THEM. *LA

THE STICKING USUALLY OCCURRED AT START UP BUT IT ALSO HAPPENED IF YOU REMOVED YOUR FOOT FROM THE GAS PEDAL DURING DRIVING TO SLOW DOWN AND THEN REAPPLIED YOUR FOOT TO ACCELERATE. I PUT UP WITH THIS FOR ABOUT TWO MONTHS BEFORE I HAD IT SERVICED. TS

TRANSMISSION FAILED WHILE PULLING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY INTO THE NEIGHBORHOOD. THE BLAZER WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE, 2ND AND 4TH GEAR. AN INDEPENDENT TRANSMISSION SHOP SAID THAT HE HAS FIXED AT LEAST SIX 1999 AND 2000 MODEL YEAR BLAZERS IN THE PAST TWO MONTHS THAT HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. BASED ON THIS INFORMATION, I CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AT PHONE # 1-800-222-1020. CHEVROLET'S CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE SAID THAT THIS WOULD NOT BE COVERED. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT CHEVROLET WOULD COVER THE REPAIR IN FULL AND IF THEY DIDN'T THEN CHEVROLET WOULD PAY FOR HALF. OBVIOUSLY IF THE MANUFACTURER IS WILLING TO DO THIS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD THEN THEY ARE ADMITTING THAT THERE IS A FAULTY PART. THE TRANSMISSION SHOULD NOT GO OUT IN A VEHICLE THAT HAS 47,000 MILES ON IT. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN FOUR-WHEELING. IT IS DRIVEN BY MY WIFE TO THE SCHOOL WHERE SHE TEACHES THAT IS ABOUT 40 - 50 MILES ROUND-TRIP ON THE INTERSTATE. THE DEALER SAID THE REPAIR COSTS WAS $1,040.86 AND THAT THEY WOULD SPLIT THE COST WITH ME. THE REVERSE REACTION SHELL PART IS LESS THAN $50 AND IF A SEAL KIT WAS NEEDED (WHICH IT WASN'T) IS ANOTHER $160. LABOR RANGES FROM THE "BOOK" FROM 6.6 HOURS AT THE INDEPENDENT SHOP TO 8.4 HOURS AT THE DEALER. BESIDES BEING GOUGED ON THE REPAIR COSTS BY THE DEALER, MY COMPLAINT IS THAT THIS CRITICAL TRANSMISSION PART SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CIRCUMSTANCES. I DO NOT EVEN WANT TO THINK OF THE CONSEQUENCES IF THE FAILURE WOULD HAVE HAPPENED ON THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH. THE MANUFACTURER NEEDS TO BE MADE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR PRODUCTS IF FAILURE COULD COST LIVES.*AK

THE ACCELERATOR THEN BREAKS LOOSE AND THE DRIVER HAS AUTOMATICALLY ACCELERATED HEAVILY EVENTHOUGH THIS IS NOT DESIRED. THIS USUALLY OCCURS AT START UP ONLY. WHILE BACKING IN A PARKING LOT, OUT OF A SPACE, THIS HAPPENED TO MY WIFE. UPON APPLYING INCREASING PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE PEDAL FINALLY GAVE WAY AND WAS PROBABLY DEPRESSED 1-2 INCHES. THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO ROCKET BACKWARD. MY WIFE QUICKLY HIT THE BRAKES BEFORE BACKING INTO THE NEXT ROW OF CARS, AND ANY PEDESTRIANS THAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN NEAR. NO ACCIDENT OR INJURY RESULTED. I HAVE SINCE DUPLICATED IT TWICE. IT ALWAYS STICKS SOMEWHAT UPON TAKEOFF, BUT MY WIFE HAS BEGUN TO COMPENSATE FOR IT. I RARELY DRIVE THE VEHICLE. SHE WILL DRRIVE ANOTHER VEHICLE UNTIL WE GET THIS FIXED. NEEDLESS TO SAY I FIND THIS TO BE A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION/DEFECT/ENGINEERING DESIGN WITH THIS VEHICLE THAT HAS A 36K MILE WARRANTY, PLUS A PURCHASED 60K WARRANTY. I CONTACTED TWO AREA DEALERS, NOT THE DEALER I PURCHASED IT FROM. BERGER CHEVROLET IN GRAND RAPIDS, AND JOHN DECKER CHEVROLET IN ROCKFROD, MI BOTH HAVE TOLD ME TO MY AMAZEMENT THAT THIS IS A "GENERAL MAINTENANCE" ISSUE. THEY SAY IT IS COMMON ON MANY BLAZERS, BUT SOME DO NOT REQUIRE THE SERVICE. THIS TELLS ME THAT SOME ARE DEFECTIVE, SOME MAY NOT BE. DECKER CHARGES $50 AND BERGER CHARGES $110 FOR SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT LEVELS OF SERVICE I PRESUME. THEY ALREADY TOLD ME OVER THE PHONE THAT THE THROTTLE PLATE HAS CARBON BUILDUP ON IT AND IT NEEDS TO BE CLEANED OFF EVERY 15-20,000 MILES. I'VE NEVER OWNED A VEHICLE THAT REQUIRES YEARLY SERVICE TO KEEP THE THROTTLE/ACCELERATOR FROM STICKING. THE 2000 CHEVY BLAZER IS A MECHANICAL AND SAFTEY NIGHTMARE! THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW/LEASE AND I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS FROM THE BEGINNING. THE EXHAUST HAS NEVER SOUNDED NORMAL; IT HAS A PREIGNITION (RATTLE-LIKE) NOISE, AND I WAS RECENTLY TOLD THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER IS BAD. THE ALTERNATOR FAILED AT APPROXIMATELY 12000 MILES. THE HAZARD LIGHTS FAILED IN APRIL 2002, AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS FAILED SHORTLY AFTER. THE STEERING PROBLEMS INCLUDE: CLUNKING WHEN TURNING TO THE LEFT, A SHIFT IN THE FRONT END (FEELS LIKE THE FRONT PASS. SIDE STEERING COMPONENTS ARE LOOSE). THE VEHICLE IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL ON FREEWAY DUE TO LOOSE STEERING AND INABILITY TO CONTROL ON TRANSITIONING/UNEVEN PAVEMENT. THE DEALER HAS REPLACED FRONT PASS-SIDE TIEROD AND STABILIZER, AND THE STEERING WHEEL NOW HAS A 12-15DEGREE, OFF-CENTER, RIGHT LIST. CUTTER CHEVEROLET OF HAWAII IS NOW HAVING US TRY TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM(S), AND TRYING EVERYTHING THEY CAN TO NOT ACCEPT THAT THE VEHICLE IS, IN FACT, A "LEMON"! WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO PROVE THAT A VEHICLE IS JUST NOT A GOOD VEHICLE; DOES MY FAMILY HAVE TO GET INJURED OR DIE TO PROVE THERE IS A PROBLEM!
