I ORDERED MY PARTS FOR THE GM IGNITION SWITCH IN APRIL. IT IS NOW MID-SEPTEMBER. I HAVE BEEN GETTING THE RUN-AROUND FROM BOTH THE DEALERSHIP THAT I ORDERED THE PARTS FROM AS WELL AS THE GM CUSTOMER CARE. I AM A RESIDENT PHYSICIAN WHO DRIVES 30 MILES EACH WAY TO AND FROM THE HOSPITAL, SIX DAYS PER WEEK. TWICE NOW I HAVE BEEN TOLD I'D HEAR BACK FROM THE GM DISTRICT MANAGER WITHIN 24-48 BUSINESS HOURS. I AM STILL AWAITING A CALL-BACK FROM A CONVERSATION LAST THURSDAY. NOT EVERYONE HAS A 9-5 JOB WITH HOLIDAYS OFF, A SECOND FAMILY CAR TO USE, A WORK ADDRESS CLOSE TO PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION OR THE DISPOSABLE INCOME TO PAY FOR A RENTAL CAR. I AM USING JUST THE SINGLE KEY, BUT I DO NOT HAVE THE PEACE OF MIND THAT I AM DRIVING IN SAFE VEHICLE, AS MY CAR HAS SWITCHED INTO THE ACCESSORY POSITION BOTH BEFORE AND AFTER THE RECALL. A $50 PER DAY OUT-OF-POCKET COST IS NOT A RESOLUTION, IT IS ANOTHER BURDEN ON THE CAR OWNER, ESPECIALLY IF HE OR SHE DOES NOT HAVE A DRIVEWAY OR GARAGE TO PARK THE FAULTY CAR. HEARING "WE CAN'T TELL WHEN YOUR PARTS WILL COME IN, BECAUSE SO MANY ARE BEING MADE," OR "WHERE DID YOU BUY YOUR CAR? MAYBE YOUR PARTS ARE THERE," IS NOT CUSTOMER SERVICE, NOR IS "WE'LL CHECK WITH THE DEALERSHIP, AND CALL YOU BACK". (THEN WAIT 24-48 HRS, JUST TO BE CALLED BACK BY THE REP WHO WROTE DOWN THE WRONG DEALERSHIP NAME, AND HAS NOT CALLED BACK SINCE). THIS IS UNREAL. THERE SHOULD BE A WAY TO TRACK CENTRALLY THE STATUS OF THE PARTS AND REPAIRS! THIS IS AN ENDLESS GAME OF PHONE TAG! *TR
JUST GOT THE CAR BACK FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL AND WAS DRIVING ON A FLAT ROAD. THE CAR WAS DRIVING NORMALLY AT FIRST, THEN WITHOUT WARNING THE CAR'S SPEEDOMETER AND RPM GAUGES WERE MOVING UP AND DOWN RAPIDLY. THE RPMS WENT VERY CLOSE TO ZERO AND YOU COULDN'T TELL HOW FAST YOU WERE GOING. IN ADDITION, THE INFO GAUGE DISPLAYED "POWER STEERING" AND THE CAR WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN. ALSO, WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE OUT OF A STOP, THE CAR JERKED VIOLENTLY AS IF IT HAD TROUBLE SHIFTING. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF THEN ON AGAIN, IT DROVE NORMALLY AGAIN. AFRAID THAT IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN WITHOUT WARNING. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER HAVING THE REPAIRS PERFORMED FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V171000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM), THE POWER STEERING WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED AS THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT SHE WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE BUT ONCE THE FAILURE RECURRED SHE WAS UNABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION OR SHIFT OUT OF GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 126,000.
CAR FROZE UP MY WIFE CAME HOME FROM WORK STEERING FROZE UP ENGINE THROTTLE HAD PROBLEMS THEN IT DIED AFTER WAITING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD IT RESTARTED WITH NO STEERING ASST. JUST GETTING IT HOME WE AREN'T DRIVING IT TILL ITS REPAIRED WE HAVE LETTER'S FROM CHEVROLET BUT NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE THEY SAID THEY WOULD CALL STILL WAITING MY WIFE ONLY DRIVES 1 MILES TO WORK ON SLOW CITY STREETS IF SHE WOULD OF BEEN ON THE FREE WAY REAL PROBLEMS COULD OF HAPPENED ALSO POWER STEERING LIGHT GO ON WORKS THE STOPS. *TR

A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF MY 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT QUICKLY APPLIED THEIR BRAKES WHICH CAUSED MY DAUGHTER TO QUICKLY APPLY HERS THUS CAUSING HER TO HIT THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HER. THE AIR BAGS IMMEDIATLY DEPLOYED. MY SON, WHO WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, NOTICED WITHIN SECONDS OF THE CRASH THAT THE ENGINE WAS ON FIRE. HE HAD TO QUICKLY UNHOOK BOTH HIS AND MY DAUGHTERS SEAT BELT SO THEY COULD EVACUATE THE VEHICLE BEFORE THE CABIN CAUGHT FIRE. ONCE MY DAUGHTER WAS ABLE TO RELAX AND GATHER HERSELF AND TELL ME WHAT SHE HAD REMEMBERED ABOUT THE ACCIDENT, SHE TOLD ME THAT IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO APPLY THE BRAKES AND IT DIDN'T SEEM LIKE IT WAS STOPPING AS QUICKLY AS USUAL. I ASK HER IF SHE THOUGHT THAT THE CAR HAD STALLED PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT AND SHE STATED THAT SHE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT WOULD FEEL LIKE TO HAVE A CAR STALL WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING. I AM UNSURE AS TO, NUMBER ONE, WHY THE ENGINE CAUGHT FIRE IMMEDIATLY AFTER A 35MPH IMPACT AND TWO, WHY WAS IT VERY DIFFICULT FOR MY DAUGHTER TO PUSH ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP AT A TIME WHEN YOU NEED TO TRUST YOUR VEHICLE THE MOST???? *JS

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE POWER STEERING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE POWER STEERING FAILED. WHEN THE CONTACT TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED IT, THE POWER STEERING RESUMED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY FOR THREE MONTHS. THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V073000 (STEERING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000.
I OWN A 2006 CHEVY COBALT THAT YES IS INVOLVED IN THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL. JUST PUTTING THE KEY IN THE IGNITION I AM SURE HELPS A BIT. BUT I HAVE BEEN CHECKING THE IGNITION POSITION WHEN I STOP AT LIGHTS AND STOP SIGNS AND A FEW TIMES THE KEY HAS SLIPPED A LITTLE NOT ENOUGH TO BOUNCE IT INTO THE OFF POSITION. BUT ENOUGH THAT IF I DID NOT PUSH IT BACK INTO POSITION AND I HIT A BUMP IT WOULD HAVE. HOWEVER IT HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED IN THE STEERING COLUMN RECALL. I HAVE FOR MONTHS OFF AND ON HAD A WHINING NOISE IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND WHEN IT DOES THIS THE CAR IS HARD TO STEER. ON THE WAY HOME FROM WORK THE OTHER DAY THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO WHINE WHEN I WAS TURNING ONTO THE HIGHWAY AND STEERING GOT HARDER. WHEN I HIT THE HIGHWAY THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND CAR STARTED TO DING AT ME. I PULLED OVER AND TURNED CAR OFF FOR A MINUTE AND TURNED IT BACK ON AND CAR WAS FINE. WHEN I GOT HOME I LOOKED TO SEE IF THERE WERE OTHER COBALT OWNERS HAVING THIS ISSUE. AND THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF 2006 OWNERS AND EVEN MORE FOR 2005 HAVING THE ISSUE. THAT IS WHEN I FOUND THEY WERE RECALLING CARS FOR THIS ISSUE BUT ONLY 2010 COBALT'S WHICH THEY HAD RECALLED IN 2010 FOR THE SAME ISSUE. BUT THE REST OF US ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL BUT ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THERE IS ALSO ANOTHER PROBLEM WITH THE 2006 COBALT'S FRONT END. I BROUGHT MY CAR IN A COUPLE MONTHS AGO BECAUSE IT WAS MAKING A BANGING NOISE IN THE FRONT END. AND FOUND THAT THE LOWER TIE RODS AND THE BEARING WERE BAD ON BOTH SIDES OF THE CAR. I AGAIN HIT THE INTERNET TO SEE IF OTHER OWNERS WHERE HAVING THIS ISSUE AND I FOUND AGAIN HUNDREDS OF 2006 COBALT OWNERS WHERE HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE. AND MANY OF THEM STATED THAT THEY CONTACTED CHEVY TO TALK TO THEM ABOUT THE ISSUE AND THEY WERE TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE SO THEREFORE CHEVY WAS NOT GOING TO RECALL THE CAR AND FIX THE PROBLEM IT WAS OUR ISSUE. *TR
AT A SPEED OF ABOUT 5-10 MPH THE STEERING FAILED. THE RECALL NUMBER N100023 WAS PREFORMED ON 7/15/2010 AT 63,057 MILES. THE PART SEEMS TO HAVE FAILED AGAIN. MY WIFE WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF TEACHING OUR DAUGHTER HOW TO PARK AND NOW WE ARE AFRAID TO EVEN LET HER DRIVE THE CAR WITH THE RECALL FOR THE IGNITION SWITCH, THERE HAS TO BE A SOLUTION FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM REOCCURRING. *TT

THE FAILURE WAS BROUGHT UP TO THE SERVICE MANAGER'S ATTENTION BUT HE DECLINED TO REPAIR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 74,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
THE CAR RANDOMLY OUT OF NOWHERE LOST POWER AND A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND SAYS ENGINE POWER REDUCED. THIS IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE ESPECIALLY IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN AT FREEWAY SPEEDS. I HAD BECOME AWARE OF THE RECALL, JUST THE WEEK PRIOR AND WAS PLANNING ON MAKING ARRANGEMENTS TO HAVE THE CAR FIXED, ONCE THE PARTS (3-4 WEEKS OUT FROM WHAT I WAS EXPLAINED) ARRIVED. I WAS ALSO EXPLAINED VIA THE DEALER AND WHAT I READ ON LINE THAT THE CAR SHOULD BE OK TO DRIVE SO LONG AS THERE WAS NOTHING ON THE KEY. SO I REQUESTED MY DAUGHTER TO ONLY USE THE KEY WITH ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ON IT, WHEN USING MY CAR. AT APPROXIMATELY 2PM ON A CLEAR SUNNY DAY, MY DAUGHTER WAS EXITING THE FREEWAY. AS SHE WAS SLOWING DOWN, THE CAR SUDDENLY SHUT OFF ON HER. BEFORE SHE HAD TIME TO REACT SHE HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. SHE WAS FORTUNATELY NOT INJURED, MAINLY BECAUSE SHE WAS ALREADY SLOWING DOWN AND HAD IT BEEN A FEW MINUTES EARLIER, THINGS MAY HAVE BEEN DRASTICALLY DIFFERENT. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR FOR 7 YEARS AND I DROVE IT QUITE A BIT AND LET MY DAUGHTER DO SO AS WELL. I AM ANGRY THAT GM HAS ALLOWED MY DAUGHTER AND I TO BE AT RISK FOR SUCH A LONG PERIOD OF TIME AND EVEN AS I AM WRITING THIS (2 WEEKS LATER) THE ONLY ANSWERS I HAVE REALLY BEEN GIVEN FROM GM ARE ANSWERS I HAVE HAD TO CALL AND PRESS THEM ON, WHICH FOR THE MOST PART IS ALMOST NO INFORMATION AT ALL. I AM SURE THEY ARE BEING INUNDATED WITH COMPLAINTS AND HAVING TO DEAL WITH THE MEDIA, CONGRESS, NHTSA, BUT I CANNOT FEEL ANY EMPATHY OR SYMPATHY FOR THAT MATTER, WHEN THEY HAVE HAD YEARS TO DEAL WITH THIS AND SIMPLY SWEPT THIS UNDER THE RUG. WHILE DRIVING THE DASHBOARD FLASHES "POWER STEERING" REPEATEDLY. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN THE SECURITY THEFT LIGHT CAME ON. AS I CAME TO A STOP THE CAR BEGAN TO SHAKE AND DOWN SHIFTED HARD. AS I BEGAN TO EXCEL FROM A STOP, IT ALSO SHIFTED REALLY HARD. ALSO, WHILE DRIVING, MY SPEEDOMETER BECAME EROTIC. ON MULTIPLE INCIDENCES WHEN I CAME TO A STOP BY CAR'S RPM DROPPED BELOW 500 AND ACTED AS IF IT WERE ABOUT TO STALL. A FEW TIMES IT DID STALL AND WOULD NOT RESTART UNLESS I HAD IT IN NEUTRAL AND TOOK OFF IMMEDIATELY. ANOTHER TIME, AS I WAS WAITING IN A DRIVE-THRU, MY SHIFTER BEGAN TO CLICK. *TR

MY CAR WAS TAKEN TO FRANKLIN MOTORS ON 05/15/2014 TO REPLACE THE FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH 14V047 & 14V171. I WAS GIVEN A RENTAL CAR IN THE MEANTIME. MY CAR WAS RETURNED TO ME 06/12/2014. THAT SAME NIGHT WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO TURN OFF MY CAR AND REMOVE THE KEY IT WAS DIFFICULT. TODAY, 06/13/2014, I ATTEMPTED TO TURN OFF MY CAR, AND REMOVE THE KEY. THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN, THE CAR WOULD NOT TURN OFF, I COULD NOT TAKE THE CAR OUT OF PARK. AFTER SEVERAL TURNS OF THE STEERING WHEEL AND JIGGLING THE KEYS THE CAR FINALLY TURNED OFF. MY CONCERN IS THAT IF THE IGNITION WAS ACTUALLY FIXED AS IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN WHY AM I HAVING THE SAME ISSUES I HAD BEFORE IT WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP? I AM NOW SCARED TO DRIVE THIS CAR. I HAVE NO OTHER MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION. I HAVE GRANDKIDS THAT I PICK UP AND I NEED A SAFE CAR THAT I CAN TRUST. I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE. FRANKLIN MOTORS ONCE AGAIN HAS MY CAR. WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST I DO? HOW AM I TO FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE ONCE IT IS RETURNED TO ME AGAIN? I WANT SOMETHING DONE TO EASE MY MIND. I BOUGHT THIS CAR USED LAST MARCH (2014) WITH 56000 MILES ON THE CAR. THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON (WITHIN A MONTH OF PURCHASE) AND HAS STAYED ON. IT TURNS OUT TO BE THE AIRBAG SENSOR MODULE. IT WILL COST $850.00 BEFORE TAXES TO FIX THIS ISSUE. I AM A SINGLE MOM WHO IS WORKING HER WAY THROUGH COLLEGE. I SIMPLY CAN NOT AFFORD TO GET THIS LIGHT FIXED. I HAVE CONTACTED CHEVY SEVERAL TIMES AND HAVE BEGGED THEM FOR FINANCIAL HELP. I EVEN ASKED THEM TO SUPPLY THE PART AND I WOULD PAY FOR LABOR. DEAR SIR OR MADAM, WE HAVE RECENTLY RECEIVED THE ABOVE-MENTIONED RECALL NOTICE FOR OUR 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. IMMEDIATELY WE CONTACTED THE LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP, BUT WERE TOLD THAT THE PARTS TO FIX THE PROBLEM WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL SOMETIME IN APRIL 2014. CONSIDERING THAT GM HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM FOR QUITE SOME TIME, BUT FAILED TO INFORM ITS CUSTOMERS, WE ARE DEFINITELY NOT SATISFIED WITH THE HANDLING OF THE SITUATION. WE ARE A MILITARY FAMILY AND SINCE WE BOUGHT THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE IN 2005, WE HAVE HAD TO MOVE FIVE TIMES DUE TO MILITARY ORDERS. ALL OF THOSE MOVES WERE ACROSS COUNTRY, FROM WEST COAST TO EAST COAST, BACK TO WEST COAST AND IN THE LAST MOVE FROM WEST COAST TO THE MIDWEST. CONSIDERING ALL THE MILES WE HAVE PUT ON THIS CAR, WITHOUT KNOWING THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH ITS IGNITION SWITCH/KEY, IT IS VERY WORRISOME, EVEN UPSETTING, TO HAVE BEEN LEFT IN DARK FOR SO LONG BY GM. HAD MY CAR RECALLED FOR THE IGNITION RECALL AND HAD MY CAR SITTING AT THE DEALER SHIP WAITING ON THE PART FOR 6 MONTHS. RECEIVED MY CAR BACK IN AUGUST 2014 AND FIND THAT HAVING SEVERAL PROBLEMS. THE IGNITION LOCKS THE KEY DOES NOT OPEN THE DOOR, ELECTRIC PROBLEMS, LIGHTS GO OUT AND THAN COME ON, AC HAS RATTLE WHEN TURN ON HIGH, CAR JERKS. THESE PROBLEM HAVE OCCURRED SINCE I HAVE RECEIVED MY CAR BACK AFTER 6 MONTHS SITTING AT THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE OF THE GM RECALL. I HAD A RENT A CAR AND PAID OVER $600 IN GAS AND HAD TO GET THE WINDOW REPAIRED FROM A CHIP THAT GOT BIGGER, FROM A SMALL ONE WHEN I GOT IT. IT WAS A VERY SCARY EXPERIENCE, I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO A SIDE ROAD AS I LIVE IN NORTHERN WISCONSIN AND THERE IS NOT A SHOULDER TO PULL ON TO DUE TO THE HIGH SNOW BANKS. I PARKED THE CAR AND SHUT IT OFF AND IT HAD NO POWER NO SPEED CONTROL.
