2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE CUTTING OFF TWICE . *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE SECOND TIME THE VEHICLE CUT OFF, SHE WAS HIT BY AN 18-WHEELER. WHEN THE VEHICLE CUT OFF, ALL THE LIGHTS REMAINED ON AND THE LOW TRACTION LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND GO OFF. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IMMEDIATELY AFTER RECEIVING REPAIRS FOR RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V171000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) HE TURNED ON THE VEHICLE BUT WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TURN OFF AND REMOVE THE KEY, IT FAILED TO COME OUT. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE AND REFUSED TO PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD FOLLOW UP WITH HIM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WERE 75,000.
UPON ENTERING MY VEHICLE, THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR OPENED BUT WOULD NOT LATCH WHEN CLOSED. AFTER EXAMINING THE DOOR LOCKS, LOCK BUTTONS, HANDLES BOTH INSIDE AND OUT AS WELL AS THE STRICKER AND LATCH, I FOUND THAT THE DOOR LATCH MECHANISM WAS STUCK OPEN. I FUNCTIONED THE LOCKS AND HANDLES IN ORDER TO RELEASE THE LATCH. THEY WOULD RELEASE BUT ONCE PRESSED AGAINST THE STRICKER THEY WOULD AGAIN STICK. I APPLIED SOME LUB AND PENETRATING OIL AND THIS TEMPORARILY CORRECTED ISSUE. I HAD IDENTICAL ISSUE WITH PASSENGER DOOR AND ALSO ISSUES WHEN ATTEMPTING TO OPEN BOTH DOORS. ONE YEAR AFTER INITIAL ISSUE, THE PASSENGER DOOR WILL NOT OPEN. HAD TO REMOVE DOOR PANEL TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE LATCH FROM INSIDE THE DOOR. LATCH HAS BEEN REPLACED. *TR

I HAVE BEEN NOTICING THE SMELL OF GAS FROM MY CAR FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS. ABOUT A WEEK AGO I SAW A PUDDLE OF GAS ON THE GARAGE FLOOR. I TOOK IT INTO THE SHOP TO HAVE IT INSPECTED AND WAS TOLD THE FUEL LINE IS LEAKING DUE TO A PART THE MANUFACTURER PLACED ON THE VEHICLE THAT IS DEFECTIVE AND RUSTED. UPON DOING FURTHER RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND THAT MANY OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM AND THE MANUFACTURER HAS ISSUED A RECALL BUT ONLY IN CERTAIN STATES, NONE OF WHICH ARE MINE. I FEEL THIS RECALL SHOULD BE FOR ALL VEHICLES. IT SHOULD NOT MATTER WHAT STATE, AS IT IS OBVIOUS THIS DEFECT IS AFFECTING VEHICLES IN ALL STATES. THE CONSUMER SHOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF THIS REPAIR AS IT IS DUE TO THE FAULTY MANUFACTURING. *TR

THEY INFORMED HIM, IT WOULD BE AT LEAST 3 WEEKS BEFORE THE PART WOULD BE AVAILABLE. THE CONSUMER STATED WITH ONLY 19,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE, WITHIN THE LAST 6 MONTHS, THE POWER WINDOWS STOPPED WORKING AND LAST MONTH, THE CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING.*JB

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE MODULAR RESERVOIR ASSEMBLY WOULD BE REPLACED HOWEVER, THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE TO PERFORM THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A SECOND RECALL NOTICE YET THE PARTS WERE STILL NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
I WAS DRIVING EAST ON US HWY 2 AT 35 MPH WHEN MY CAR SUDDENLY SHUT OFF. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE LANE AND WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE RIGHT LANE WITH NO TRAFFIC COMING. THIS HAPPENED 3 MORE TIMES IN A 2 MILE DISTANCE. I PARKED THE CAR AND IMMEDIATELY NOTIFIED CHEVY AND MY LOCAL CHEVY DEALER. CHEVY TOLD ME MY CAR HAD A RECALL THAT WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL APRIL 1. VON HOLZEN CHEVY DEALER SAID UNLESS THEY KNEW WHAT WAS WRONG AND I PAID 600 THEY WOULD NOT FIX IT. *TR
I WAS ATTEMPTING TO TURN INTO A DRIVE AND THE STEERING BECAME HARD TO TURN. AFTERWARDS POWER STEERING APPEARED TO WORK NORMAL. *TR
MY WIFE AND HER MOTHER WERE DRIVING ON A STREET IN THE CITY THAT WE LIVE IN. THIS STREET DOES HAVE A MILD TO MODERATE AMOUNT OF TRAFFIC DEPENDING ON THE TIME OF DAY. IT IS A TWO LANE ROAD THAT FOR THE MOST PART GOES THROUGH THE RESIDENTIAL AREA OF THE CITY THAT WE LIVE IN AS WELL AS THE NEIGHBORING CITY. THE SPEED LIMIT PREDOMINATELY IS 35 MPH. AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT, MY WIFE WAS TRAVELING TO THE SOUTH IN WHICH THE ROADWAY PROCEEDS DOWN A SHORT, MILD DOWNGRADE IN TO A NATURAL WASH OR STREAM BED AND THEN BACK UP AN UPGRADE TO THE SOUTH SIDE OF TOWN AND THE NEIGHBORING CITY. MY WIFE WAS TRAVELING DOWNHILL WHEN SUDDENLY SHE LOST POWER TO THE VEHICLE AND THE STEERING LOCKED UP. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING BUT ALL THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS OF THE VEHICLE SUCH AS THE GAUGES AND THE CAR STEREO CEASED TO WORK.DUE TO THE STEERING LOCKING UP AND MY WIFE BEING UNABLE AT THE TIME TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE, SHE DRIFTED IN THE OPPOSITE LANE, BOUNCED OFF A CURB ON THAT SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THEN DRIFTED BACK INTO THE APPROPRIATE LANE BEFORE COMING TO A STOP. FORTUNATELY FOR THE SAFETY AND WELL-BEING OF MY WIFE AND HER MOTHER, NO OTHER VEHICLE WAS IN OR APPROACHING THE OPPOSITE LANE. WHEN THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP, THE ENGINE STALLED WHEN THE KEY IGNITION WAS IN THE RUN POSITION. MY WIFE PROCEEDED TO SWITCH THE KEY IN THE OFF POSITION AND THEN PROCEEDED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE THEN STARTED UP LIKE NORMAL. MY WIFE PROCEEDED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO HER ORIGINAL DESTINATION WHICH WAS ONLY A COUPLE OF MILES AWAY. SHE THEN NOTIFIED ME BY CELLPHONE IN WHICH WE STARTED THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO GET THIS ISSUE RESOLVED. *TR

THE DEALER DID NOT GIVE A SPECIFIC DATE WHEN THE PARTS WOULD BE AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED AND COULD NOT PROVIDE AN ESTIMATED DATE FOR WHEN THE CONTACTS VEHICLE WOULD BE REPAIRED. THERE ARE NO FAILURES AT THIS TIME.
DRIVING DOWN HWY.KNEE BUMPED KEYS IN IGNITION AND THE CAR SHUT OFF THANK THE LORD SHE WAS ABLE TO TURN CAR BACK ON . MY CONCERN IS WE JUST PURCHASED THE CAR NOT LONG AGO AND WILL I BE CONTACT ABOUT RECALL FOR THIS VERY REASON. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, PRIOR THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE RECALL, ONLY TO BE TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. THE CONSUMER STATED SINCE THE ANNOUNCEMENT, SHE FELT AS THOUGH SHE WAS LIED TO AND ADVISED TO KEEP DRIVING THE VEHICLE. *JB

THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 14E021000 (IGNITION SWITCH) AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO REMEDY THE RECALL HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.

THE SEAL WHERE THE FUEL FILLER TUBE MEETS THE GASOLINE TANK IS LEAKING. IT IS CONTINUOUSLY WET IN A CIRCLE ABOUT TWO INCHES AROUND THE TUBE. IT IS NOT DRIPPING ON THE GROUND AT THIS TIME, BUT LOOKS AS IF IT WILL WITHIN A SHORT TIME. THE FUMES ARE VERY STRONG. I MOVED THE CAR OUT OF THE GARAGE TO AVOID AN EXPLOSION HAZARD. *TR
THE CAR DOES NOT WANT TO SHIFT FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR AND WHEN IT DOES, IT IS VERY JERKY. ACCELERATION IS VERY LIMITED. *TR
I WAS STOPPED AT A TURN AROUND EAST OF GARFIELD ON 16 MILE ROAD IN CLINTON TOWNSHIP MICHIGAN. PROCEEDED TO COMPLETE TURN AND GO WEST ON 16 MILE ROAD WHEN I FELT MY VEHICLE (2006 CHEVROLET COLBALT) HAD A LOSS OF POWER. THERE WAS NO RESPONSE WHEN I STEPPED ON THE GAS PEDAL. THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS BLINKED. THEN WITH IN SECONDS I WAS STRUCK BY A VEHICLE IN MY PASSENGER SIDE REAR, THEN I SPUN AROUND AND ANOTHER VEHICLE HIT ME IN THE DRIVER REAR SIDE. NONE OF MY AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE CLINTON TOWNSHIP POLICE QUESTIONED THE OTHER TWO DRIVERS WHO STRUCK ME BUT NEVER QUESTIONED ME TO EXPLAIN WHAT HAPPENED. THE FIRST VEHICLE THAT HIT ME THE MAN HAD A CUT ON HIS LEG AND REFUSED MEDICAL TREATMENT. THE SECOND VEHICLE THAT HIT ME THE FEMALE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. I WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL BY EMS BECAUSE MY HEAD, NECK, BACK, HIP AND LEG WAS HURTING ME. WHEN I WAS IN THE HOSPITAL THE POLICE OFFICER CAME UP TO ME AND GAVE ME A TICKET WITH TWO SEPARATE VIOLATIONS, AND STATED THAT I CAUSED THE ACCIDENT. THE OFFICER NEVER ASKED ME WHAT HAPPENED AND WHEN I TRIED TO EXPLAIN TO HIM, HE JUST SAID THAT'S WHY ITS CALLED AN ACCIDENT AND LEFT THE HOSPITAL. MY 2006 CHEVY COLBALT IS TOTALED ACCORDING TO THE INSURANCE COMPANY. I FOUND A NHTSA 14V047000 RECALL ON THE IGNITION SWITCH FAILURE ON THIS NHTSA WEBSITE. GM'S RECALL NUMBER IS 13454.I HAVE RECORD OF 2 REPAIRS TO THAT SAME IGNITION BY THE DEALERSHIP IN 2006 AND 2009. I BELIEVE THAT THE FAULTY IGNITION CAUSED ME TO LOOSE POWER AND ACCELERATION THUS CAUSING THE ACCIDENT AND INJURIES. *TR
I THINK IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT IT HAS TAKEN SINCE THE RECALL IN FEB. AND THERE STILL AREN'T PARTS TO REPLACE THE IGNITION ISSUE. TODAY I RECEIVED THE SAME RECALL FOR MY LACROSSE!
CONSISTENT WITH MANY, MANY OTHER OWNERS, MY 2006 COBALT HAS THE DREADED GAS LEAK SMELL, YET CHEVROLET REFUSES TO INCLUDE MY STATE IN THE RECALL. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND DANGEROUS TO ALLOW SO MANY CARS WITH GAS LEAKS TO NOT BE RECALLED. I DO NOT EXACTLY LIVE IN A COLD WEATHER STATE (MO). IT IS ABSURD THAT IF I LIVED 200 MILES TO THE SOUTH MY CAR WOULD BE AT LEAST PARTIALLY AFFECTED BY A RECALL FOR THIS VERY ISSUE. GM IS PINCHING PENNIES AND REFUSING TO FIX A PROBLEM WHICH EXISTS NATIONWIDE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 143,000.
MY ELECTRICAL ISSUE: I HAVE HAD MY CAR DIAGNOSED SO MANY TIMES BECAUSE I COULD NOT FIND THE REASON WHY MY CAR RPM KEEPS GOING UP AND DOWN. THAN IT CAME DOWN TO AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE. POWER STEERING: WHILE I AM DRIVING MY POWER STEERING COMPLETELY GOES OUT THEREFORE IT IS CAUSING ME NOT TO BE ABLE TO CONTROL THE CAR AND HAVE HAD MULTIPLE TIMES WHERE I ALMOST WRECKED MY CAR DUE TO THIS ISSUE. I COULD BE DRIVING AND OR TURNING AND ALL OF A SUDDEN IT JUST COMPLETELY GOES OUT CAUSING ME NOT CONTROL THE CAR ESPECIALLY WHEN THE ROADS ARE WET. I SAW THERE WAS A RECALL BACK IN 2010 BUT SO MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE NOW THAT IT'S 2014...IT IS NOT WORTH HAVING DEATH ON THEIR HANDS I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY NOTHING IS UP TO DATE. *TR

THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE PARTS FOR THE REPAIR WERE UNAVAILABLE AND DID NOT PROVIDE AN ESTIMATED DATE OF ARRIVAL. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE VEHICLE STALLED TWICE AND CRASHED INTO A CURB. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE COLLISION REPAIRS WOULD NOT BE COVERED BY THE RECALL, AND ONLY THE RECALL REMEDY WOULD BE HONORED ONCE THE PARTS ARRIVED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE RECENTLY STALLED AND WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, WHO WAS ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE AFTER TWO MONTHS AS THE IGNITION SWITCH NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. MY DAUGHTER WAS INVOLVED IN A VEHICLE ACCIDENT IN THE 2006 CHEVY COBALT THAT WE PURCHASED. THE ACCIDENT WAS SEVERE ENOUGH TO RENDER THE VEHICLE TOTALED. SHE WAS PULLING OUT INTO A LANE OF TRAFFIC AND A CAR HIT HER CAR IN THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE CORNER DOING ABOUT 50MPH, SINCE SHE WAS JUST PULLING OUT HER SPEED WASN'T MORE THEN 15-20MPH. THE AIRBAGS NEVER DEPLOYED EVEN THOUGH THE COLLISION WAS ON THE FRONT CORNER AND WAS STRONG ENOUGH TO SHIFT THE ENGINE BLOCK AND BREAK THE MOTOR MOUNT. WE RECENTLY RECEIVED THE RECALL INFORMATION PERTAINING TO THE ENGINE SWITCH AND HAVING BULKY KEY CHAINS AND HOW JARRING COULD CAUSE THE CAR TO SHUT OFF AND NOT DEPLOY THE AIRBAGS. I'VE BEEN DOING RESEARCH TO TRY AND FIGURE OUT WHAT IT IS WHEN TODAY, I STUMBLED ACROSS A RECALL THAT WAS ISSUED FIRST IN OCT 2009 ABOUT THE FUEL SYSTEM IN CERTAIN COBALTS. I NEVER RECEIVED A NOTICE ABOUT SUCH A RECALL AND MY VIN # IS ONE THAT IS FOR THE RECALL. I WAS HIT ON THE LEFT SIDE OF MY CAR, A MALFUNCTIONED CAR WAS SITTING IN THE PASSING LANE OF A MAIN HIGHWAY. A CAR BEHIND ME PUSHED THE CAR INTO THE DRIVERS SIDE CAR HITTING INITIALLY THE DOOR AND BEHIND THE FRONT TIRE WHEEL WELL AND THEN DRAGGED IT ALONG THE LENGTH OF THE CAR AND AROUND THE REAR END. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT GO OFF ON MY CAR, THIS WAS ON A MAIN HIGHWAY WHERE THE SPEED LIMIT IS 65MPH. MY CAR HAS ALSO ISSUES WITH THE THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM, I HAVE TO UNPLUG THE BATTERY FOR 10 MINUTES TO RESET IT. ALSO HAVE NOW THE ECM COMPUTER HAS ISSUES AND NEEDS REPLACED. MY CAR MILEAGE IS NOT QUITE 170,000 MILEAGES, I BOUGHT THIS CAR BRAND NEW IN PENNSYLVANIA. THIS VEHICLE HAD THE MOTOR REPLACED FOR THE STEERING RECALL, AND THAT LASTED APPROXIMATELY 5,000 MILES AND THE STEERING DOES THE SAME THING, SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING IS BEING CRANKING WHEN TURNING THE CAR. ON 12/18/13 I BEGAN TO NOTICE A "HUMMING" NOISE COMING FROM THE CAR. THE HUMMING NOISE GOT INCREASINGLY WORSE OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS. AT THE SAME TIME I NOTICED THE "SERVICE AIRBAG" SIGN CAME ON AND THE RADIO BEGAN FLASH AND ATTEMPTED TO EJECT A CD WITHOUT ME MANUALLY PUSHING THE BUTTON OR CD BEING INSIDE IT. THE "HUMMING" NOISE PROGRESSIVELY GOT WORSE AND THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO STIFFEN UP. AFTER 2 WEEKS OF THE PROBLEM BECOMING INCREASINGLY WORSE, I DECIDED TO HAVE MY MECHANIC DO A COMPLETE DIAGNOSTIC TEST. HE BELIEVED THAT THE DIAGNOSIS IS THE ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING AND STATED THAT AFTER MUCH RESEARCH THE COST WOULD BE $900+ BECAUSE THE REPAIRS WOULD HAVE TO BE BY A CERTIFIED GM AND PARTS WOULD HAVE TO BE SPECIALLY ORDERED DUE TO THE NATURE OF THE WAY THE CAR WAS MANUFACTURED. HE ALSO STATED THAT APPARENTLY THIS PROBLEM IS AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH THIS PARTICULAR MAKE/MODEL CAR AND REGRETFULLY WAS UNABLE TO REPAIR IT. I AM A SINGLE MOM AND VALUE ME AND MY CHILD'S SAFETY BUT AT THIS TIME THE NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE DUE TO THE OBSCENE AMOUNT OF MONEY IN QUESTION TO REPAIR IT AND ONGOING FINANCIAL HARDSHIPS. THERE IS A BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) PROBLEM IN ALL COBALTS WHICH HASN'T CAME TO LIGHT YET IT'S VERY DANGEROUS. IT'S ALL OVER THE INTERNET AND THERE ARE VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE, SEARCH FOR "COBALT ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS" "COBALT POWER STEERING WARNING" THIS PROBLEM WILL CAUSE THE CAR GAUGES TO GO CRAZY AND IT WILL SAY ENGINE LIGHT, POWER STEERING, THE TRANSMISSION GOES INTO SAFE MODE AND SHIFTS VERY HARD AND THEN CAR WANTS TO CHUG AND STALL WHILE YOUR DRIVING FORCING YOU TO PULL OVER IF POSSIBLE TO AVOID CAUSING A MAJOR ACCIDENT AND THEN YOU HAVE TO TURN THE CAR OFF THIS JUST AS DANGEROUS OR MORE DANGEROUS THEN THE ONGOING IGNITION SWITCH RECALL. WHILE LOOKING ON THE INTERNET FOR ANSWERS TO WHY THIS IS HAPPENING I HAVE FOUND LOT'S AND LOT'S OF OTHER PEOPLE WHO ARE HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS I HAVE A 2006 SS COBALT AND THIS IS WHAT IS HAPPENING TO ME.
