A FUEL SMELL WAS COMING FROM THE BACK OF THE CAR, WHEN PARKED. I TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC AND HE FOUND SAFETY BULLETIN #09226B. THE MECHANIC CALLED THE CHEVY DEALER BEFORE REMOVING THE FUEL TANK TO CONFIRM THE PRODUCT SAFETY BULLETIN. THEY SAID THERE WAS NO MANUFACTURER REPLACEMENT, BECAUSE I LIVE IN ILLINOIS. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE CAR WITH 97,048 MILES, BUT THE RECALL ONLY APPLIES IN WARM STATES (TEXAS, ARIZONA, CALIFORNIA, AND NEVADA)THE FUEL TANK WAS REMOVED AND HE FOUND A SMALL LEAK ON THE FITTING AT TOP OF THE FUEL PUMP MODULE. THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED AND RETESTED FOR LEAKS. I PAID FOR THE FUEL PUMP AND THE WORK. I WILL NEVER BUY A GM CAR AGAIN!

VECHICLE ALWAYS AUTOMATICALLY SWITCHES TO POWER STEERING WHILE IN MOTION. IT ALWAYS DOES THIS WHENEVER THE TEMPERATURE IS 80 OR MORE DEGREE. THE STEERING BECOMES STIFF AND REFUSES TO TURN. ONE HAS TO KEEP GOING STRAIGHT OR STOP THE CAR TO RESTART BUT IT GOES BACK TO POWER STEERING IN LESS THAN 10 MINUTES AGAIN.
AFTER RECALL ON IGNITION SWITCH MY CAR STILL STALLS AND THE POWER LOCKS GO UP AND WHILE DRIVING AND IT SOMETIMES WILL NOT COME OUT OF PARK
MY CAR FALLS UNDER THE 09V419 RECALL. I BEGAN SMELLING STRONG FUEL SMELL OUTSIDE THE 2006 COBALT. I BROUGHT IT INTO CHEV DEALER TO CHECK FOR FUEL PUMP MODULE RECALL. THEY INFORMED ME THE FUEL PUMP RECALL WAS NOT THE ISSUE, INSTEAD THE FUEL LINES ARE RUSTED OUT AND LEAKING...TECH COMMENTS "FOUND BOTH THE PRESSURE AND RETURN LINES ARE VERY RUSTY AND LEAKING FUEL". VEHICLE HAS APPROX 121,000 MILES. COST TO REPAIR WILL BE $755.00. IT WOULD APPEAR THE FUEL LINES ARE FAULTY/POOR CONSTRUCTION OR THE RUST-PROOFING IS POOR. THIS PROBLEM IS VERY PREVALENT IN THIS MODEL. PRESENTS A SAFETY HAZARD, ESPECIALLY WHEN DEALER DOES NOT PLAN TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP MODULE DESPITE MY VIN # BEING WITHIN THE RANGE OF THE CARS AFFECTED AND SAFETY RECALL REPORT SPECIFIES THAT THE ESTIMATED PERCENTAGE WITH DEFECT IF 100%. MANUFACTURER SHOULD STAND BEHIND THE PRODUCT AND FIX ALL SUSPECTED VEHICLES.

WHEN DRIVING THE CAR IT SEEMS TO FEEL LIKE THE BRAKES ARE BEING APPLIED AND THE CAR IS TOWING A HEAVY LOAD AND THE SPEED WILL DECREASE AS I CONTINUE TO DRIVE FORCING ME TO PARK THE VEHICLE. I TURN THE CAR OFF FOR AN HOUR OR TWO AND IT WILL DRIVE NORMALLY AGAIN BUT IF DRIVEN TO LONG IT WILL SLOW DOWN WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS A TYPICAL CITY DRIVING, STOP AND GO AT STOP LIGHTS OR UP AND DOWN SMALL HILLS. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT IT MAYBE THE THROTTLE BODY MODULE BUT WE ARE NOT SURE.
SOME TIME AGO I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE FUEL LINES. I CONTACTED DEALERSHIP AND THEY REFUSED TO REPAIR. CURRENTLY I HAVE AN ACTIVE FUEL LEAK AROUND FUEL TANK WHEN DRIVING. SOMEBODY TOLD ME ABOUT THIS WEBSITE, SO I AM WRITING HERE TO SEE IF SOMEBODY CAN ENFORCE RECALL FOR MY CAR. I DON'T REMEMBER NOW WHEN I WAS REJECTED, SO I WILL PUT /1/1/2016 FOR THE DATE. THANKS.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
I'VE BEEN CONTINUALLY HEARING A REALLY LOUD NOISE AS I TURN THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT. TODAY AS I TURNED LEFT THE STEERING BECAME QUITE A BIT TOUGHER TO TURN ALMOST LIKE THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING AT ALL, BUT ONLY WHEN I TURNED LEFT.
IT DOESN'T MATTER OF I'M DRIVING AT JUST SITTING AT THE TRAFFIC LIGHT BUT THE T/C, ENGINE LIGHTS COME ON N MAKE MY CAR JERK LIKE IT'S THE TRANSMISSION KICKING BACK SO IN MARCH 2016 IT GOT SO BAD TO THE POINT I COULD NO LONGER EVEN PUT MY CAR IN REVERSE SO I HAD TO HAVE A BRAND NEW TRANSMISSION WHICH COST ME $1500 THEN THE SAME DAY I GOT IT BACK ALL THE LIGHTS CAME RIGHT BACK AND I'VE TAKEN IT SEVERAL TIMES TO THE MECHANIC AND IT GIVES HIM A P1174, P0014 CODE. I'M AFRAID ONE DAY WHILE I'M DRIVING MY CAR IS JUST GOING TO FALL APART WITH HOW BADLY IT JERKS BUT ONCE THE T/C LIGHT DOES GO OFF IT STOPS JERKING AND WILL DRIVE SMOOTH BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT MAY OR NOT STILL COME ON AND MAKES MY CAR DRIVE SLUGGISH N THE RPM GUAGES GO CRAZY LIKE I CAN ACCELERATE BUT THE CAR DOESN'T SEEM TO BE ACCELERATING.

THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000.

I HAD IGNITION SWITCH RECALL WORK PERFORMED ON MY CAR. FOLLOWING THAT, OR PERHAPS DUE TO INCREASED MILEAGE, I BEGAN HAVING POWER PROBLEMS WITH MY COBALT. ON 10/19/15 MY CAR WAS PARKED, WOULDN'T START AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. THEN IT STARTED BUT DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH POWER TO MOVE/RUN. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED - MILEAGE WAS 131,982 AT THE TIME. BATTERY WAS GOOD. THE SHOP SAID IT HAD PO300 CODES - RANDOM MISFIRES. THEY FOUND CYLINDERS 2 AND 3 WERE NOT CONTRIBUTING POWER DUE TO A BAD IGNITION MODULE. SO THE IGNITION MODULE WAS REPLACED. I ALSO HAD WORN SPARK PLUGS REPLACED, AS THE SHOP RECOMMENDED I DO SO. THE CAR STILL HAD MISFIRE CODES AND WOULD HESITATE WHEN RE-ACCELERATING AFTER STOPS, SO I PAID FOR A NEW FUEL FILTER AT THE REPAIR SHOP'S RECOMMENDATION. THE HESITATION CONTINUED BUT I COULDN'T AFFORD FURTHER DIAGNOSTICS/REPAIRS. WITHIN A COUPLE OF WEEKS OF REPAIR MY CAR LOST COMPLETE POWER WHILE I WAS DRIVING IN TRAFFIC. LUCKILY, OTHER DRIVERS HAD TIME/SPACE TO REACT, BUT IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A DEADLY ACCIDENT. DUE TO FINANCES, MY BROTHER CHECKED THE CAR FOR ME AND CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY - THE ONLY ISSUE HE COULD DETECT. IT HAS RUN A BIT BETTER SINCE THEN, BUT STILL EXHIBITS HESITATION AFTER STOPS. I WORRY IT MAY LOSE COMPLETE POWER AGAIN BUT I CANT AFFORD INCURRING FURTHER EXPENSE WITH TRIAL AND ERROR REPAIRS. ESPECIALLY AFTER READING ONLINE OTHER COBALT OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME EXPERIENCE, AND HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO GET RESOLUTION DESPITE MULTIPLE EXPENSIVE TRIPS TO MECHANICS. I FEEL CHEVROLET NEEDS TO INVESTIGATE THE ELECTRICAL/POWER LOSS ISSUES WITH COBALTS AND COVER NEEDED REPAIRS UNDER A RECALL SO COBALT OWNERS CAN DRIVE WITH PEACE OF MIND. I'M SUBMITTING THIS COMPLAINT NOW BECAUSE OF A RECENT NBC NEWS PROGRAM WHERE A YOUNG WOMAN DIED WHEN HER COBALT LOST POWER IN TRAFFIC, AND THIS ALSO OCCURRED FOLLOWING THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL WORK BEING DONE.
TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT AND POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT AT ABOUT 80. THE CAR BECAME JERKY WHILE TAKING A SLIGHT LEFT (ALMOST LIKE A DELAY IN THE STEERING WHEEL). CAME TO A LIGHT AND THE IDLE STARTING FLIRTING. DROVE FORWARD IT LURCHED A BIT WENT AND PULLED IN. WHILE STOPPED I SHIFTED BETWEEN DRIVE, PARK REV, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD SLAM INTO GEAR. IDLE FLUTTERED. SHUT OFF VEHICLE FOR 20 SECONDS LIGHTS AND ISSUE WENT AWAY. CAR IS AT 117,000KM
THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS SUPPOSEDLY CHANGED, STILL HAVING TROUBLE STARTING THE CAR. DIFFICULT TO STEER, SENSORS AREN'T WORKING. STATIONARY WHEN TRYING TO START THE VEHICLE, SENSOR LIGHTS COMES ON WHEN DRIVING, CITY HIGHWAY.
THE ENGINE RANDOMLY CUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS (UNDER 45 MPH). THE ELECTRICAL THINGS LIKE RADIO, LIGHTS, ETC REMAIN ON. THIS PROBLEM BEGAN IN 10/2012. THE 1ST DIAGNOSIS OF CYLINDER MISFIRE WAS REPAIRED BY REMOVING & REPLACING COIL PACK. THE 2ND DIAGNOSIS OF MALFUNCTIONING CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS REPAIRED BY REMOVING & REPLACING CATALYTIC CONVERTER IN SUMMER OF 2013. THE 3RD DIAGNOSIS OF FAULTY STARTER WAS REPAIRED BY REMOVING & REPLACING STARTER IN JULY 2014. THE 4TH DIAGNOSIS OF BAD STARTER WAS REPAIRED BY REMOVING & REPLACING THE STARTER OCTOBER 2015. AFTER EVERY REPAIR THE ENGINE WOULD RANDOMLY CUT OFF WHILE DRIVING AS IT HAD BEFORE THE REPAIRS. THE RECALLED IGNITION WAS REMOVED & REPLACED IN 2015 BE THE DEALER AS WELL. NO SERVICE DEPARTMENT OR REPAIR SHOP HAD EVER BEEN ABLE TO DEFINITELY DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OR RECREATE THE PROBLEM. ALTHOUGH THE ENGINE CUTS OFF DURING LOW SPEEDS, IT IS HIGHLY DANGEROUS. THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE HAPPENED LESS THAN 24HRS AFTER THE STARTER WAS REPLACED. THE ENGINE STOPPED WHILE DRIVING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD & SEVERAL VEHICLES NARROWLY MISSED THE CAR BARELY AVOIDING COLLISION.
CAR WHILE IT'S RUNNING GETS A SECURITY LIGHT AND ENGINE LIGHT ON AND ALL GAUGES READ ZERO BESIDES THE RPMS JUMPING TO A THOUSAND. AN DISPLAY SAYING LOW FUEL AND POWER STEERING AND WHEN TRY TO CHANGE DISPLAY IT READS ---------- AND IT DID THE SAME THING WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD SO I PULLED OVER AND TURNED IT OFF AND BACK ON AND ONLY THE SECURITY LIGHT STAYED ON. VERY DANGEROUS AS THE CAR WILL NOT MOVE WHEN IT'S HAPPENING IT'S LIKE IT'S DISABLED.

THE CONTACT SUSTAINED WHIPLASH, A SPRAINED SHOULDER, AND LOWER BACK INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,600.
WHEN THE CAR WAS IN PARK, WE NOTICED A STRONG SMELL OF GAS. WHEN WE LOOKED UNDER THE CAR IT WAS LEAKING FROM WHAT APPEARED TO BE THE GAS TANK. I TOOK IT AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO TOLD ME THAT IT WAS LEAKING FROM THE FUEL PUMP. THE REPAIR IS GOING TO COST ME AROUND $600. THE MECHANIC WAS NICE ENOUGH TO REMIND ME ABOUT CERTAIN RECALLS ON THIS PARTICULAR MAKE AND MODEL FROM CHEVY. WHEN I LOOK AT THE RECALLS, THE PARTICULAR PROBLEM IS LISTED, BUT FOR SOME REASON, CHEVY MADE IT REAL CONVENIENT TO SAY THAT ONLY CERTAIN CHEVY COBALTS 2006 WERE GOING TO BE FIXED. AS I ENTERED THE VIN NUMBER TO CHECK IT, MINE STATES THAT THERE ARE NO RECALLS FOR MY CAR. MY CAR FITS ALL THE CRITERIA, WHY IS IT THAT MINE DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR THE RECALL? I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW, IF MY CAR DID NOT "QUALIFY" FOR THE RECALL, THEN WHAT 2006 CHEVY COBALTS QUALIFIED FOR THE GAS LEAK REPAIR? IT SEEMS AS THOUGH, WE THE CONSUMERS, HAVE TO PAY FOR A PROBLEM CHEVY CREATED BY USING CHEAP PARTS. VERY UPSET. WE ARE NOT PURCHASING ANOTHER CHEVY CAR AGAIN.
KEEPS LOSING OIL AND NOW THE ENGINE WONT KEEP OIL NOW THE ENGINE IS GONE,,WE KEPT THE OIL CHECKED BUT ONE DAY WHILE DRIVING IT LOST PRESSURE AND WONT GO..I THINK IT SHOULD BE PART OF THE RECALL...THIS CAR HAS HAD A LOT OF ISSUES AND RECALLS SINCE BEING PURCHASED...
THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT HAS GONE OUT. THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN AND ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ON ALL COBALTS HAVE HAD NUMEROUS RECALL ISSUES. THIS IS JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF CHEVROLET UTILIZING INFERIOR PRODUCTS ON THEIR VEHICLE RESULTING IN EXPENSIVE REPAIRS IN ADDITION TO STEERING PROBLEMS WHEREBY THE STEERING BECOMES EXTREMELY DIFFICULT INTERMITTENTLY AND ULTIMATELY RESULTING IN STEERING FAILURE SHOULD THE PROBLEM NOT BE RESOLVED. THE SAME STEERING SYMPTOMS FROM THE RECALL REGARDING THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ISSUES.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HAVING AN OIL CHANGE PERFORMED AT AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, THE TECHNICIAN NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A FUEL LEAK ON THE FUEL PUMP. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V419000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.

AFTER PUTTING MY CAR INTO PARK AND TURNING THE CAR OFF I WAS UNABLE TO GET MY KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION SWITCH, WHICH WAS REPLACED LAST YEAR. I HAD TO JIGGLE THE GEAR SHIFT (AUTOMATIC) AND STILL HAD TO FORCEFULLY REMOVE THE KEY.
DROVE HOME FROM WORK AND ABOUT 3 HOURS LATER I GOT INTO MY CAR TO LEAVE, CRANKED MY CAR AND I HAD A MESSAGE ON MY DIGITAL READING "POWER STEERING" AND I COULD NOT TURN MY STEERING WHEEL AT ALL!! I LOOKED ON YOUTUBE AND SEE THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVING THIS ISSUE WITH THEIR COBALT'S, BUT YET THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE AND WAS TOLD TO CONTACT YOU GUYS. WHY HASN'T THERE BEEN A RECALL?? I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR!!
I PURCHASED THE CAR 2 AND HALF YEARS. THE CAR ALWAYS SEEMED TO HAVE SLIGHT STEERDNG ISSUES BUT NOTHING MAJOR NOTE ENOUGH TO BE WORRIED ABOUT. I HAD THE FRONT OF THE END OF THE CAR COMPLETELY REBUILT THINKING THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. I TOOK THE CAR IN BECAUSE I THOUGHT THAT IT NEED A FRONT END ALIGNMENT. I WAS INFORMED THAT HAD BEEN ISSUES WITH THE STEERING OF THE COBALT AND TO CHECK INTO IT. I WAS TOLD BY TO GARAGES THAT IS THE IMMEDIATE DRIVE SHAFT ON THE CAR. ONE GARAGE ALSO SAID THE RACK AND PIN. I THOUGHT THE CAR JUST NEED BRAKES ROTORS ETC. I DIDN'T HAVE MONEY TO HAVE THE CAR COMPLETE REBUILT FRONT END SO I HAD LITTLE THINGS DONE. THE CAR WAS STILL HAVING ISSUES AFTER I HAD EVER THING REDONE BY BOYFRIEND DID ALL THE WORK ON THE FRONT END. SO IT WAS WHEN I TOOK IT IN THE ALIGNMENT. THAT I WAS TOLD ABOUT THE ISSUES. HOWEVER THE CLICKING IN THE STEERING HAS ALWAYS BEEN THEIR BUT I DIDN'T KNOW. I WAS TOLD THE CAR IS UNSAFE FOR ME DRIVE BECAUSE OF THE STEERING PROBLEMS. I HAVE CONTACTED GM THEY ACTED AS IF THEY HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT ANY STEERING ISSUES AND AFTER THE INVESTIGATION I DID I FOUND OUT DIFFERENTLY. I AM TAKING THE CAR INTO GM ON SATURDAY 9/26/2015. IF I HAVE TO PAY ON MY OWN IT WILL COST ME 1000. I DONT HAVE THAT KIND OF MONEY. I AM SINGLE MOM GOING TO NURSING SCHOOL FULLTIME. I NEED HELP GETTING THIS RESOLVED.

THIS IS GM RECALL #14632-TRANSMISSION SHIFTER WHICH LOCKS THE KEY INTO THE IGNITION CYLINDER. I WAS PARKED AND COULDN'T GET THE KEY OUT, WHICH SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED WITH THE RECALLS UNDER 14V047 & 14V171. STEWART CHEVROLET REFUSED TO DO MY KEY, WHICH I THOUGHT WAS THE PROBLEM. ON 9/25/2015 I FILED A COMPLIANT WITH GM ASKING WHERE ELSE I COULD GO AND IF IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE THE COBALT WITH THIS KEY AND WITH THIS NEW PROBLEM. I'VE NEVER RECEIVED AN ANSWER FROM GM NOR HAS STEWART STEPPED UP TO REMEDY THIS EVEN NOW THAT THEY KNOW THE PROBLEM. IS THIS VEHICLE SAFE TO DRIVE, AS ONLY THE FIRST RECALL PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN FIXED. *CN

EVERYTIME WE DRIVE OUR COBALT WE HAVE A HARD TIME STARTING IT. AFTER A FEW DAYS WITH IT BEING HARD TO START WE THEN STARTED SMELLING A STRONG GAS ODOR ON THE OUTSIDE AND INSIDE OF THE CAR. I FOUND THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE FUEL PUMP, BUT FOR SOME REASON IT IS ONLY IN CERTAIN STATES AND OF COURSE MY STATE (MICHIGAN) IS NOT INCLUDED.
