2005 CORVETTE. BATTERY GOES DEAD EVEN WHEN FOLLOWING PROPER PROCEDURES AFTER SITTING 4 - 5 DAYS. GM HAS NO RECALL. AFTER REVIEWING POSTS FROM OTHER 2005 CORVETTE OWNERS IT APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE MAJORITY OF THE 6 SPEED VEHICLE OWNERS. I PAID WAY TOO MUCH FOR THE CAR TO BE EXPERIENCING ELECTRICAL ISSUES AS SUCH. I WISH GM WOULD GET OFF THEIR [XXX] AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. THE PRODUCT SAFETY RECALL # N100118 "SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM" CALLS FOR A CLIP TO BE INSTALLED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. IN SOME CASES THAT DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. I HAD THE CLIP REPLACED AND STILL CONTINUED TO HAVE THE RECALL PROBLEM. I TOOK THE CAR BACK IN AND NOW I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT MY STEERING WHEEL POSITION SENSOR WAS BAD (SWPS) AND THAT'S NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL AND I WILL HAVE TO PAY THE $385.00 TO HAVE IT REPLACED. TO ME THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE! GM NEEDS TO STAND BEHIND THERE PRODUCT BECAUSE THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND THE 2CENT CLIP IS NOT THE FIX ALL. THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE MODIFIED TO INCLUDE THE SWAP AS WAS NOTED IN THE AUTO TREND ARTICLE WHEN GM SAID THEY WOULD PERFORM THE REPAIRS "LIKELY INVOLVING THE SWAPS OR ITS CONNECTOR FREE OF CHARGE". I GUESS ITS ALL ABOUT THE MIGHTY DOLLAR. WAY TO GO GM I GUESS SOMEBODY HAS TO GET KILLED BEFORE YOU WILL CORRECT YOUR MISTAKE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM WAS DISENGAGING WHILE DRIVING AND CAUSING THE BRAKES TO MALFUNCTION WHEN DRIVING AT LEAST 60 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
2005 / C6 CORVETTE,SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING MESSAGE DISPLAYED,SEARCHED INTERNET AND FOUND INFORMATION ABOUT WIRING CONNECTOR CLIP FOR STEER WHEEL SENSOR, WENT TO DEALER AND PICKED UP AND INSTALLED THE COMB FOR THE CONNECTOR AND FIXED WIRING HARNESS SO IT WOULD NOT MOVE WHEN STEERING COLUMN WAS CYCLED IN & OUT . THIS DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM, WHEN GOING TO WORK AT ABOUT 40 MPH AND TURNING LEFT A LITTLE THE LEFT FRONT BRAKE DEPLOYED AND PULLED ME IN TO THE LEFT ON COMING LANE. I TOOK THE CAR TO A GM DEALER THE TECH READ THE CODES AND SAID IT NEEDED A NEW STEERING WHEEL SENSOR HE INSTALLED THE NEW SENSOR AND SAID THAT SHOULD FIX IT AFTER ABOUT ONE OR TWO DAYS THE SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING MESSAGE CAME ON AGAIN SO I STARTED TURNING OFF THE TRACTION CONTROL AND ACTIVE HANDLING, AFTER SOME TIME I FORGOT TOO TURN OFF A/H A COUPLE OF TIMES AND FOUND IT WASN'T FLAGGING ACTIVE HANDLING MESSAGE ANY MORE THEN WENT ON A ROAD TRIP AND GOT INTO THE WAKE UP BUMPS ON THE EDGE OF THE ROAD THIS STARTED IT TO TURN ON A/H MESSAGE AGAIN, WHILE AT MY DESTINATION AND GOING FOR BREAKFAST ONE MORNING AND NOT TURNING OFF THE A/H THE CAR DID THE LEFT FRONT BRAKE THING AGAIN AND PUT ME IN THE ONCOMING LANE AGAIN . THIS CAR IS VERY DANGEROUS. I WILL TAKE TO DEALER AGAIN. I STILL HAVE THE OLD STEERING WHEEL SENSOR. *LN
BOTH REAR AXLES HAVE BROKE. ONE WAS FOUND BY A DEALERSHIP'S REPAIR SHOP WHEN THEY WERE LOOKING AT SOMETHING ELSE. THE SERVICE TECH SAID THAT THE LEFT REAR AXLE WAS CRACKED ALL THE WAY THROUGH AND THAT IT WAS A FACTORY DEFECT. THE OTHER REAR AXLE BROKE SEVERAL MONTHS LATER (ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO) AS I WAS ACCELERATING INTO RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. NOW I HAVE A PROBLEM IN THE FRONT. *TR
AC INOP SPEED ONLY ONE SETTING. DEALER PULLED DASH AND REPLACE BAD MODE VALVE ACTUATOR AND CONTROLLER. 10 MONTHS LATER 08/11 SAME ISSUE AC ONLY ONE SPEED AND CAUSING MOISTURE TO APPEAR ON FRONT WINDSHIELD. DEALER REMOVE DASH AND REPLACED 2 ACTUATORS AND VALVE. 7 MONTHS LATER 03/12 SAME ISSUE AGAIN DEALER PULLED DASH AND REPLACED MODE VALVE AND ACTUATORS AGAIN. 4 MONTHS LATER 07/12 SAME ISSUE ONLY ONE SPEED AND NO AUTO SPEED . PULLED DASH AGAIN AND REPLACED THE ENTIRE HVAC CASE SAYING IT WAS WARPED. 3 MONTHS LATER 10/12 SAME ISSUE PULLED DASH AND MODE VALVE AND ACTUATORS AND VALVES..06/13 SAME ISSUE GOING INTO DEALER SERVICE AGAIN. AL THIS AND HAVE ONLY DRIVEN CAR FOR 10,000 MILES. SO FAR EVERYTHING HAS BEEN COVERED BY WARRANTIES AND ALWAYS GET A LOANER BUT I WANT TO DRIVE MY CORVETTE. *TR
HAPPENED TWICE WITHIN 2 DAYS. TRAVELING AT 40 MPH. TRAFFIC CAME TO SUDDEN STOP. HAD 4 CAR LENGTHS AND FRONT CAR BRAKES LOCKED AND WENT INTO SKID AND HAD MINOR ACCIDENT. SECOND TIME TWO DAYS LATER. 5 MPH. TURNING RIGHT INTO A PARKING LOT AND FRONT BRAKES LOCKED AGAIN. THEY WOULD NOT RELEASE. I PUT CAR IN REVERSE. IT WOULD RELEASE, BUT AS SOON AS I PUT IT IN DRIVE IT WAS LOCKING. I MANAGED TO PARK CAR. WAITED ABOUT AN HOUR AND BRAKES DID NOT LOCK. ITS BEEN 2 WEEKS AND NO PROBLEM. *TR
AFTER HAVING THE CAR FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS START THE ODYSSEY OF GETTING OUT THE PARK FOR REVERSE OR DRIVE, OVER THE TIME AND USE HAS BEEN COMPLICATED, ALSO FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS ON THE OWNERS MANUAL HAVE TO TURN OFF THE CAR FOR COUPLE TIMES TO RESOLVE AND CONTINUOUS, HAVE TRIED LOTS OF RECOMMENDATIONS AND NOTHING BETTER IF NOT WORSE. *TR
2005 CHEVROLET CORVETTE BASE. DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY RT. 9 IN CONNECTICUT. CAR HAD ROUGHLY 5000 MILES ON IT. DATE AROUND SEPTEMBER 10. PRESSED FINGER ON POWER TELESCOPE STEERING WHEEL SWITCH TO MOVE WHEEL CLOSER TO ME. THE SWITCH FELT HOT SUDDENLY AND SMOKE WITH A STRONG BURNING ODOR STARTING TO FILL THE CABIN. I COULD NOT SEE AND PULLED OVER. THE STEERING COLUMN STOPPED SMOKING AFTER ABOUT 3 MINUTES. TOOK CAR TO DEALER. WAITED A WEEK FOR NEW SWITCH TO BE PUT IN. DEALER SAID SWITCH WAS FAULTY AND SHORTED OUT. CAR WAS SUPPOSEDLY FIXED AND I PICKED UP CAR A WEEK LATER. APPROXIMATELY $250.00. I STARTED DRIVING HOME FROM DEALER WITH NEW SWITCH AND DECIDED TO TRY NEW SWITCH. IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC ON HIGHWAY I-84 PULLED SWITCH AND ONCE AGAIN , HOT SMOKE BURNING FILLED THE CABIN. PULLED OVER WAITED FOR "FIRE" TO SUBSIDE AND THEN BROUGHT BACK CAR TO DEALER. DEALER SAID SWITCH IS NOW ON BACKORDER AS WELL AS SOME MODULE THAT ALSO NEEDED REPLACEMENT RELATED TO IT AND I HAVE CAR BUT HAVE TO WAIT FOR SWITCH TO BE MADE BEFORE I CAN BRING CAR BACK FOR REPAIR. *TR
2005 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ANTI-LOCK BRAKE LIGHT AND ANTI-LOCK CIRCUIT *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED GM PLACED THE ANTI-LOCK CIRCUIT AGAINST THE RADIATOR AND THE ENGINE DURING MANUFACTURING. THE CONSUMER STATED THE COST TO REPAIR THE BROKEN CIRCUIT WAS $2000.00. HOWEVER, SEVEN MONTHS LATER, THE ANTI-LOCK CIRCUIT BROKE AGAIN. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE MAIN PROBLEM WAS THE LOCATION OF THE ANTI-LOCK CIRCUIT.
2005 CORVETTE PUSH BUTTON START INTERMITTENTLY WORKS . PASS KEY THAT ALLOWS YOU TO WALK UP ON THE CAR AND THE DOORS AUTOMATICALLY UNLOCK DOESN'T WORK EITHER. NO OVER RIDE TO THE SYSTEM TO GET THE CAR TO START. HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED FROM AN AIRPORT AREA TO 5 MILES AWAY AND THE VEHICLE STARTED RIGHT UP . THIS IS NOT SAFE BECAUSE I AM AFRAID TO TAKE THE CAR SOMEWHERE AND HAVE IT NOT START. MY 80K BMW HAS A PUSHBUTTON START AND SMART KEY AND IT DOESN'T HAVE THESE ISSUES. AS A SIDE NOTE, WHEN THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER PICKED UP MY CAR TO TOW IT, HE ASKED IF IT WAS A GM VEHICLE WITH A PUSH BUTTON START AND I SAID YES IT IS . HE SAID HE KNEW IT, BECAUSE OF THE AREA AND HE TOWS ABOUT 20 - 30 CARS A WEEK FROM THE SAME AREA ALL GM VEHICLES . *TR
UPON COMPLITION OF THE RECALL SERVICING MY CAR WOULD NOT START THE CAR'S DIGITAL IMFORMATION CENTER SAID SERVICE COLUME LOCK.....THIS PROBLEM WAS CREATED BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT PERFORMED THE RECALL NOW FOR THE LAST FEW MONTHS WHEN EVER I EXCELLERATE QUICKLY I GET AN SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING MESSAGE AND THE BRAKES DO APPLY AND I GET AN UNSTABLE RIDE FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME, AFTER I COME TO A STOP AND CUT THE MOTOR OFF THE (DIC) DIGITAL IMFORMATION CENTER WILL NO LONGER SHOW THE MESSAGE. AS A RESULT OF THE RECALL SERVICING I HAVE HAD CONSTANCE ERROW MESSAGES STATING....SERVICE COLUME LOCK, AND SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING. WHEN THE MASSAGE CENTER READS SERVICE COLUME LOCK THE CAR WON'T START, THESE PROBLEMS STARTED IMMEADILY AFTER THE RECALL SERVICING. PLEASE ADVISED ME OF WHAT CAN BE DONE TO CORRECT THIS MOST DISTRUBING PROBLEM....THE DEALERSHIP IS NOT OWNING THE PROBLEM THEY SURELY CAUSED. THE FAILURE RECURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN OVER UNEVEN ROAD SURFACES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V491000 (STRUCTURE:BODY:ROOF AND PILLARS). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 15,140.
LETTER REGARDING PROBLEMS SHE STILL HAVING WITH 2005 CHEVROLET CORVETTE , WHICH WAS INVOLVED IN GM SAFETY RECALL 10118; SHE STILL HAS A RENTAL AND HAS BEEN UNABLE TO SPEAK WITH ANYONE TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER TOLD HER THE PROBLEM HAD BEEN CORRECTED REGARDING THE RECALL. HOWEVER, WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY BETWEEN 40- 50 MPH, THE BRAKES LOCKED UP AND THE STEERING WHEEL PULLED OUT OF HER HANDS AND THE VEHICLE DRIFTED INTO ANOTHER LANE. THE CONSUMER RETURNED TO VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER FOR THE SAME REASON IT WAS RECALLED FOR. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN ENTERING HIS VEHICLE FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE THE DOOR BECAME JAMMED INTO THE FRONT RIGHT FENDER WHERE THEY MEET. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE DOORS ARE NOT ALIGNED THE CORRECT WAY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. CHEVROLET WAS NOTIFIED AND THE OWNER WAS WAITING FOR A RETURN CALL. CHEVROLET FILED CLAIM # 71854922568. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 64,000.
DRIVING DOWN TWO LANE ROAD BRAKE LOCKS JERKING ME ALMOST INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM GOES ON AND OFF WITHOUT ME DEPRESSING BUTTON, BRAKES LOCK WITHOUT REASON. BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON CONSTANTLY. SAW RECALL AND TOOK TO CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID EVERYTHING WAS FINE. STILL DOES IT. *TR
THE FAILURE OF THE CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER (VERIFIED AND REPAIRED) AFTER SHIFTING INTO REVERSE, CAUSED THE CAR TO ACCELERATE RAPIDLY BACKWARDS, AND INITIALLY TOTALLY OUT OF CONTROL. COLLIDED FIRST WITH A CAR BEHIND AND TO THE RIGHT, AND THEN HURDLED BACK ALONG A BUSY SMALL ROAD IN A SHOPPING CENTER. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO STOP THE CAR BY USING ONE FOOT ON TOP OF THE OTHER, PRESSING AS HARD AS I COULD ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. IT WAS SMALL MIRACLE THAT I DIDN'T HIT ANYONE, GIVEN THE TIME (7:00 PM) THE WEATHER (SUNNY AND 70 DEG) AND THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE MOVING ABOUT.
2005 CORVETTE STEERING COLUMN LOCK WOULD NOT ALLOW ENGINE TO START BUT WOULD ALLOW STEERING WHEEL TO MOVE. DEALER REPLACED COLUMN LOCK SYSTEM, WORKED OK FOR 10 DAYS. CAR WOULD NOT START AGAIN, COLUMN LOCK WOULD NOT RELEASE STEERING WHEEL. I UNDERSTAND EARLIER MODEL VETTES RECALLED TO FIX THIS WITH A BYPASS. LATER MODEL VETTES DO NOT HAVE THIS LOCKING SYSTEM. PART IS OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE FOR 2005. I AM CONCERNED THAT COLUMN LOCK WILL ENGAGE WHILE I AM DRIVING. HAVE THERE BEEN ANY CRASHES RESULTING FROM THIS? I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR. *TR
SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM LIGHT CAME ON, SYSTEM APPLIED RIGHT FRONT BRAKE CAUSING THE CAR TO SWERVE AND TURN ABRUPTLY TO THE RIGHT. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO OTHER CAR IN THE NEXT LANE.
I OWN A 2005 CHEVROLET CORVETTE THAT I PURCHASED FROM A GMC DEALERSHIP AS A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED VEHICLE. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED ON 05/22/2010. APPROXIMATELY 2 WEEKS LATER I SAW A WARNING ON THE DASHBOARD INDICATING "SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM". I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP CLOSEST TO WHERE I WORK AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR A RECALL THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE. THE WORK WAS COMPLETED ON 06/15/2010. ON 07/09/2010, AND 07/11/2010, THE WARNING REAPPEARED. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE ON 07/12/2010 BUT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS UNABLE TO REPAIR IT AT THAT TIME BECAUSE NO "CODES" WERE BEING FOUND INDICATING A PROBLEM. I UNDERSTAND, THROUGH RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET THAT THERE IS A POSSIBILITY OF BRAKES LOCKING UP DUE TO THIS PROBLEM, AND THIS CAUSES ME CONCERN. THEY ARE STILL GOING TO TRY TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM AND ARE VERY COOPERATIVE AT THIS TIME. I BELIEVE THERE IS A CURRENT INVESTIGATION UNDER INVESTIGATION NUMBER EA09-002. I ALSO UNDERSTAND THAT THE RECALL IS NOT CORRECTING THE PROBLEM, AS IT DID NOT DO SO IN MY CAR, NOR HAS IT BEEN EFFECTIVE IN OTHERS THAT I HAVE FOUND THROUGH THE INTERNET. AT THIS TIME I HAVE NOT HAD AN ISSUE WITH BRAKES LOCKING, IT IS ONLY THE DASHBOARD WARNING AT THIS TIME. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT LATER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V172000 (STEERING:COLUMN) AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE DEALER MADE SEVEN ATTEMPTS TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE BUT TO NO AVAIL AND THE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM LIGHT CONTINUED TO ILLUMINATE. THE BRAKE LIGHT WAS ALSO INOPERABLE. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE FAILURE COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE A CRASH BECAUSE OTHER DRIVERS WOULD BE UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHEN HE WAS BRAKING. THE CONTACT DID NOT INFORM THE MANUFACTURER OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 47,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000.
RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE FROM CHEVY FOR MY 2005 CORVETTE. SAFETY RECALL 10118. GENERAL MOTORS HAS DECIDED THAT A DEFECT, WHICH RELATES TO MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY, EXISTS IN CERTAIN 2005 CHEVROLET CORVETTES EQUIPPED WITH A TILT AND TELESCOPING STEERING COLUMN. AS A RESULT GM IS CONDUCTING A SAFETY RECALL. IN RARE CASES, REPEATED MOVEMENT OF THE STEERING COLUMN MAY CAUSE A SIGNAL INTERRUPTION WITHIN THE COLUMN. IF THIS OCCURS, THE MESSAGE, "SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM" WILL APPEAR, AND ONE OR MORE OF THE BRAKES MAY APPLY , POSSIBLY CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO PULL TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT. IF THE DRIVER DOES NOT RESPOND TO THE CHANGE IN VEHICLE MOVEMENT, A CRASH COULD OCCUR. CHEVROLET WILL INSPECT THE WIRE CONNECTION IN THE STEERING COLUMN, AND IF NECESSARY, INSTALL AN ADDITIONAL CLIP. *TR

TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS FAIL WITHOUT INDICATION. THE SENSOR REGISTERS PRESSURE WHEN IT IS ACTUALLY ZERO. WITH RUN FLAT TIRES THIS CAUSES AN UNSAFE CONDITION. *TR
ON MAY 2010 I RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE #10118 FOR MY 2005 CHEVY CORVETTE, THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM. I BROUGHT IT TO THE CHEVY DEALER AND THEY PUT A PLASTIC CLIP ON A WIRE CONNECTION. RECENTLY THE SERVICE ACTIVE IN MAY OHANDLING SYSTEM LIGHT WILL APPEAR AND THE BRAKES WILL APPLY BY THEMSELVES AND THE CAR DOES A INVOLUNTARY NOSE DIVE. I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND IT MIGHT NOT HAPPEN AGAIN FOR 2 MORE WEEKS OR SO. BEFORE ANY SERVICE COULD BE DONE THE VEHICLES RIGHT FRONT WHEEL LOCKED UP CAUSING ME TO BE OUT OF CONTROL AND VEERING TO THE RIGHT. I HAD IT REPAIRED BY THE DEALER AND SEVERAL WEEKS LATER RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL FOR THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM. THE DEALER CHECKED THE VEHICLE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE RECALL AND INDICATED THAT I HAD THE REPAIRS DONE AT MY EXPENSE PRIOR TO THE RECALL. I FILED FOR REIMBURSEMENT AND WAS DENIED BECAUSE THE REPAIR WAS NOT FOR A CLIP,BUT FOR THE SENSOR. HOWEVER, THE SYMPTOMS ARE IDENTICAL TO THE RECALL. FURTHERMORE NO CLIP WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER. OVER THE LAST YEAR MY " SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM" LIGHT HAS COME ON. AFTER A WHILE IT GOES OFF. TEN DAYS AGO IT CAME ON AGAIN FOR A WHILE, THEN WENT OFF. AFTER THAT I WAS TRAVELING ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR SWERVED TO THE RIGHT. LIGHT CAME ON SAYING "DISENGAGE CRUISE CONTROL", WHICH I DID AND GAINED CONTROL OF THE CAR. I WAS IN THE PASSING LANE AND WAS LUCKY NO ONE WAS BESIDE ME WHEN IT SWERVED TO THE RIGHT OR I WOULD HAVE HIT THEM. I WAS ALSO LUCKY IT DIDN'T SWERVE LEFT OR I WOULD HAVE HIT THE GUARD RAIL. ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 2010 I WAS DRIVING UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS AND THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ON MY 2005 CORVETTE SHUT DOWN. POWER TO THE CAR WAS CUT OFF LEAVING ME WITH NO CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE. I COULD NOT STEER, BRAKE OR EVEN EXIT THE CAR AS EVERYTHING IS ELECTRICALLY CONTROLLED. IN ORDER TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT THE ONLY WAY I HAD OF STOPPING THE CAR WAS TO THROW IT INTO PARK AT ABOUT 35 MPH. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR, HOWEVER, THIS PRESENTS A LARGE SAFETY CONCERN. HAD I BEEN TRAVELING FASTER OR HAD BEEN ON THE FREEWAY THE RESULTS COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DIFFERENT. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME IT HAD TO DO WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, HOWEVER, THEY DON'T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT'S WRONG AND DON'T KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. THEY BASICALLY ARE SUGGESTING I DRIVE IT AWAY. THE ROAD I WAS ON HAD A VERY SLIGHT CURVE TO THE LEFT AND THE GROUND WAS COMPLETELY DRY/ ALL CONDITIONS WERE NORMAL. OUT OF NO WHERE I FELT MY VEHICLE BEING FORCED HARD TO THE LEFT AS IF I WAS HYDROPLANNING AND HAD LOST THE ABILITY TO CONTROL THE BRAKING OF MY CAR. MY VEHICLE CROSSED THE NEXT LANE OVER AND WITH ABSOLUTELY NO CONTROL WHAT SO EVER I WAS FORCED OVER A CURB AND INTO A STREET SIGN. NO ONE WAS INJURED AS IT WAS A MINOR ACCIDENT HOWEVER IT CAME WITH A PRICE. AT THIS POINT THERE IS ESTIMATED TO BE $6500.00 IN DAMAGES TO MY VEHICLE DUE TO THIS. NO WORK HAS BEGUN ON MY VEHICLE. THE CAR THEN CAME BACK ACROSS THE ROAD AND STOPPED IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION TRAFFIC. THE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE NOW STANDS AT $20,000.00. SHE STATES THAT IT FELT AS IF THE FRONT LEFT TIRE LOCKED UP AND HAS NO IDEA WHAT HAPPENED FROM THAT POINT ON. SHE WAS JUST HOLDING ON FOR DEAR LIFE. FOUND CRANKSHAFT BALANCER RETAINING BOLT BACKED OUT, CRANKSHAFT BALANCER MOVING FORWARD. HAD THIS BOLT COME OUT FURTHER, IT WOULD HAVE DAMAGED THE STEERING RACK, ACCESSORY BELTS COMING OFF, LOSS OF POWER STEERING, ELECTRICAL, BRAKING. THIS ISSUE IS KNOWN BY GM/CHEVROLET, TSB 05-06-01-001D. VEHICLE WAS FLAT BED TOWED TO DEALER, THEY DENIED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE BOLT, IT JUST NEEDED NEW BELTS. AFTER THREATENING THE DEALER & GM WITH A LAWSUIT IF THE PULLEY CAME OFF AND RESULTED IN PROPERTY DAMAGE OR BODILY INJURY, THEY WOULD REPLACE THE PULLEY WITH THE UPGRADED ONE & A NEW BOLT PER THE TSB, BUT AT CUSTOMER EXPENSE. REPAIRS COMPLETED 2/10/2010. THIS VEHICLE WAS WITHIN THE VIN NUMBER RANGE FOR THE TSB, BUT THE DEALER WAS MORE CONCERNED WHERE THE PAPER COPY OF GM TSB 05-06-01-001D CAME FROM- THIS IS PUBLIC INFORMATION.
