WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR'S GAS GAUGE WILL DROP TO ZERO AND THE SERVICE FUEL SYSTEM LIGHT WILL COME ON. AFTER A WHILE, IT WOULD GO BACK TAND NORMAL. TO ADD TO THIS ISSUE, WHEN THE CAR IS PARKED IN THE GARAGE, THERE IS A STRONG GAS SMELL THAT FILLS THE GARAGE. THIS HAS BEEN ON GOING SINCE LAST YEAR.
I BOUGHT MY 2008 Z06 BACK IN DECEMBER 2016 WITH 27000 MILES ON IT. LOVE THE CAR BUT FROM I UNDERSTAND READING ABOUT THE COMPLAINS FROM OTHER OWNERS IT HAS VALVE PROBLEMS AND THE CAN GIVE AWAY AT ANY TIME. DEAR GM I DON'T CARE HOW YOU TAKE THIS, BUT SHOULD MY 2008 LS7 MOTOR BREAK DOWN DUE TO THIS SPECIFIC SITUATION YOU WILL FIX IT AT YOUR OWN COST, I AM PRINTING THE COMPLAINS FROM THE FORUM ABOUT THE LS7 MOTOR ISSUES, AND IF THAT EVER HAPPENS TO MY CAR AND YOU REFUSE TO FIX IT, TV STATIONS, RADIO STATIONS, AND NEWS PAPERS WILL KNOW ABOUT THIS. LET ME CLEAR THIS IS A STATEMENT I AM MAKING THANK YOU
I AM WRITING THIS IN REGARDS TO MY 2008 CHEVY CORVETTE. THERE IS AN ISSUE OF GAS FUMES COMING FROM THE CAR WHENEVER THE CAR IS OVER HALF FULL. IT VEY BAD AND STARTS WHEN THE CAR GETS OVER 30K-40K MILES ON THEM. I HAVE BEEN ON FORUMS AND THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH 2008-2009 CORVETTES HAVING FAULTY PARTS AROUND THE GAS TANK WHICH START TO LEAK. GM ISN'T DOING ANYTHING ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND IF NOT FIXED CAN LEAD TO GAS MIXING WITH HOT EXHAUST AND RESULTING IN A FIRE OR EXPLOSION OF THE CARS FUEL CELL. I HOPE THIS HELPS GET THIS ISSUE RESOLVED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE CLUTCH PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE REMAINED ENGAGED IN GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO PASO ROBLES CHEVROLET (2485 THEATRE DR, PASO ROBLES, CA 93446, (805) 238-7800) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,500. *TT
A STRONG FUEL ODOR IS EMANATING FROM THE CAR FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR WHEEL WELL AREA WHERE A TANK IS LOCATED. THE ODOR IS PARTICULARLY STRONG WHEN DRIVING FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS IN 100+ DEGREE HEAT IN THE DESERT SOUTHWEST.
SMELL OF GAS COMING FROM CAR
THIS IS A FOLLOW UP TO A COMPLAINT I FILED ON DEC 26 2017 COMPLAINT NUMBER 11056152. IT SEEMS I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER IN JUNE OF 2016 ABOUT A GAS SMELL PROBLEM WITH CERTAIN CORVETTES. THE LETTER SAID IF YOU ARE HAVING THAT ISSUE TAKE YOUR CAR TO A DEALER FOR REPAIR. IN 2016 I DIDN'T HAVE THAT ISSUE AND FILED THE LETTER. NOW IN 2017 I HAVE THAT PROBLEM BUT THE LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER INFORMED ME THAT MY CAR WAS ONLY COVERED UNTIL LAST AUG. THIS REPAIR IS APPROXIMATELY $5000.00. HOW CAN GENERAL MOTORS EXEMPT THEMSELVES FROM A POTENTIAL EXPLOSIVE CONDITION FROM A FAULTY GAS VALVE. THEY WERE AWARE THERE VALVES WERE FAILING AND HOPING THEY COULD GET THE EFFECTED AUTOMOBILES BEYOND THE 10 YEAR LIMIT. IF THEY TRULY HAD THEIR CUSTOMERS SAFETY IN MIND THE WOULD HAVE INSTRUCTED ALL OWNER OF THE CORVETTES WITH THIS FAULTY GAS VALVE TO HAVE THEIR CAR REPAIRED IN JUNE OF 2016, BEFORE THE "SMELL" OCCURRED. I CANNOT BELIEVE THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR SUCH A DANGEROUS PROBLEM. I CANNOT PARK MY CAR IN MY GARAGE WITH OUT LEAVING A DOOR OPEN FOR FEAR OF A FIRE OR WORSE. THIS WAS NOT CAUSED BY ANY THING AN OWNER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR. NOT LACK OF PROPER MAINTENANCE, OR VEHICLE ABUSE. I'VE TRIED CALLING GENERAL MOTORS BUT ONLY GET SOME COMPUTER THAT SCREENS CALLS. ITS VERY FRUSTRATING. I HOPE SOME ONE AT NHTSA CAN GIVE ME SOME ADVICE AND MY ISSUE SOME CONSIDERATION. THANK YOU
COULD NOT SHIFT (AUTO TRANS) OUT OF PARK VEHICLE IS 10 YEAR OLD, 3,974 MILES, NEVER BEEN IN RAIN, KEPT IN CLIMATE CONTROL ENVIRONMENT.
I JUST HAD MY MANDATED 08 C6 EMISSIONS RECALL DONE. NOW WHILE IN DRIVE AT A STOP LIGHT, THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES, ALONG WITH PARTS OF THE DRIVERS DOOR AND THE CENTER CONSOLE. IT IS THE NEW RESONANCE FROM THE MID CATS AND RPM IDLE CHANGE. PLUS I DROVE IT 60 MILES, THEN TOOK TEMP READINGS WITH A LASER TEMP GUN...MY RIGHT PANT LEG WAS AT 95 DEGREES, AND THE SEAT BELT PLASTIC ATTACHMENT WAS AT 115 DEGREES. I THEN MEASURED THE TEMP INSIDE THE CENTER CONSOLE...140 DEGREES. ALSO ON AVERAGE, THE ENGINE IS RUNNING 10 TO 15 DEGREES HOTTER(DUE TO MORE BACK PRESSURE AND THE LEANING OF THE AIR FUEL MIXTURE) WHEN I PARKED IT IN THE GARAGE AND GOT OUT...YOU COULD FEEL A STRONG WAVE OF HEAT COMING FROM UNDER THE CAR. THE DEALERSHIP THAT I TOOK IT TO AGREES WITH MY CONCLUSIONS. HOWEVER, GM CORPORATE IS NOT HELPING ME TO RESOLVE THESE ISSUES.
VERY STRONG FUEL SMELL IN GARAGE, THIS HAPPENS AFTER FILLING TANK. SMELL GOES AWAY AFTER SOME FUEL IS USED UP. I HAVE OWNED THE CAR SINCE AUGUST 2011. MY SHIFT LEVER (A6) FREQUENTLY LOCKS ON P. I NEED TO CHANGE THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SHIFTER (2006-08 CORVETTE AT (25913058) I AM INFORMED ABOUT THE FRENCH AND AMERICAN FORUMS AND IT IS A VERY COMMON FLAW TO THE CORVETTE C6. YET THERE HAVE NEVER BEEN ANY REMINDERS TO CORRECT THIS FLAW. THE INFAMOUS DASH BUZZING (WINDSHIELD COWL) PROBLEM ALSO, I HAVE TREMENDOUS VIBRATIONS IN THE WINDSCREEN AND THIS IS PART OF THE FREQUENT FLAWS ON THE C6 CORVETTES CAN BE UNTIL THE YEAR 2010. MY CORVETTE HAD 77600 KM AT THE TIME OF THE FACTS CAN YOU HELP ME FOR GM FRANCE TO TAKE CARE OF THESE VEHICLE DESIGN FLAWS. CAR IS SMELLING A STRONG ODOR OF FUEL WHICH HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR 2008 CORVETTES
THERE IS A GAS LEAK, PROBABLY FROM THE FUEL PUMP. I CAN SMELL GAS ODOR. I'M WORRIED THAT THE GAS FUMES IS CLOSE TO THE WATER HEATER AND DON'T WANT AN EXPLOSION TO HAPPEN. I CAN SMELL IT WHEN I'M INSIDE OF THE CAR AND DRIVING.
LEAKING GAS PUMP AT THE REAR OF THE CAR WHILE SITTING IN THE GARAGE WITH A HALF TANK OR MORE OF FUEL.
FUEL SMELL EMANATING FROM GAS FILLER AREA. HAS GRADUALLY INCREASED OVER THE PAST FEW MONTHS SO THAT IT IS PROMINENT WHEN ENTERING THE GARAGE WHERE IT IS STORED.
AFTER FILLING THE FUEL TANK AND DRIVING, A STRONG GAS SMELL FILLED THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. THIS CONTINUED THE REST OF THE DAY. IT IS NOW PARKED IN THE GARAGE, AND THE GARAGE SMELLS LIKE FUEL. WE PUT ABOUT 75 MILES ON THE CAR ON MOUNTAIN ROADS HERE IN ARIZONA.
GAS TANK LEAKING
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT, THE VEHICLE JERKED FORWARD AND THE SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL/ ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. WHEN THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER AND RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS MAKING AN ABNORMAL NOISE. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE CLUTCH AND REAR AXLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT COULD NOT DETERMINE IF THE FAILURE WAS REPAIRED. ADDITIONALLY, THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOORS WOULD NOT OPEN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000.
ENGINE IS MAKING A LOUD TICKING NOISE. SHOP RECOMMENDED TO REPLACE VALVE GUIDES AND REMACHINE CYLINDER HEADS. THIS IS TO PREVENT A VALVE DROPPING INTO THE ENGINE DUE TO OUT OF SPEC CYLINDER HEADS FROM THE OEM SUPPLIER. THIS IS A HIGH OCCURRENCE PROBLEM THAT HAS LOW OR REMOTE DETECTION METHODS. THE SEVERITY PRESENTS A POTENTIAL SAFETY/FIRE HAZARD.
STRONG FUEL ODOR COMING FROM FUEL TANK AREA.
STRONG FUEL ODOR COMING FROM CAR WHEN ENCLOSED IN A GARAGE. FOUND FUEL LEAKING FROM TOP OF DRIVERS SIDE FUEL TANK. WORSE WHEN TANK IS FULL.
THE GAS TANK IS LEAKING THROUGH THE TOP AND MOISTURE CAN BE SEEN ON THE SIDE. THERE IS THE SMELL OF GAS INSIDE THE CAR. THE MECHANIC ALERTED ME TO A RECALL OF THE GAS TANKS FOR THIS MODEL VEHICLE. I HAVE PICTURES TO SHOW HOW THE TOP OF THE GAS TANK IS CONSTANTLY WET. THE FIRST TIME WE NOTICED THE SMELL OF GAS WAS IN A STATIONARY POSITION WHILE IN THE GARAGE. THE PICTURE IS TAKEN FROM UNDERNEATH THE CAR LOOKING UPWARDS.
GOT OFF WORK AT 6PM WAS DRIVING HOME ON REGULAR ROADS, AND OUT OF NO WHERE MY LOW BEAMS WENT OUT AND WOULDN'T TURN ON AGAIN. CHECK ALL THE FUSES AND RELAYS AND THERE ALL GOOD.
I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT EXCESSIVE VALVE TRAIN NOISE AND AFTER READING SEVERAL CORVETTE FORUM THREADS ABOUT IMPROPERLY MACHINED HEADS BY GM'S SUPPLIER LINAMAR, AND THAT NUMEROUS VEHICLES HAVE HAD VALVES DROP AND RUIN THE ENGINES, I TOOK MY CAR WITH 9500 MILES ON IT TO A CORVETTE SPECIALTY SHOP TO HAVE MY VALVE GUIDE CLEARANCE TESTED. I HAD (2) INTAKE VALVE GUIDES OUTSIDE OF SERVICE SPECIFICATIONS, (4) EXHAUST VALVE GUIDES OUTSIDE OF SERVICE SPECIFICATIONS, AND A COMBINATION OF (10) OTHER INTAKE AND EXHAUST VALVE GUIDES AT OR NEAR THE MAXIMUM OUTSIDE OF SERVICE SPECIFICATIONS. THE CAR IS BEING REPAIRED WITH PROPER RE-MACHINING OF THE HEADS TO MAKE THE VALVE GUIDES CONCENTRIC, NEW INTAKE AND EXHAUST VALVE GUIDES INSTALLED, AS WELL AS NEW SEALS, VALVES, SPRINGS, ETC. 88% OF THE CORVETTE FORUM MEMBERS WHO HAVE HAD THEIR CYLINDER HEADS TESTED FOR EXCESSIVE VALVE GUIDE WEAR, WERE OUT OF SERVICE SPECIFICATIONS. GM IS VERY AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, BUT REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS HUGE SAFETY RISK TO DRIVERS, PASSENGERS, AND NEARBY VEHICLES IF THE ENGINE FAILS GOING DOWN THE ROAD.

GAS IS LEAKING WHEN THE TANK IS OVER 3/4 FULL AND HAS A STRONGER ODOR OF GAS IN MY GARAGE. IT'S ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. AND THERE'S A LITTLE PUDDLE OF GAS ON THE PAN UNDER THE TANK.

WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INDICATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE PRESSURE WAS HIGH AND THEN LOW. THE MESSAGE "SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING" FLASHED ACROSS THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE THEN SLID TO THE LEFT, SPUN 360 DEGREES, AND CRASHED INTO THE MEDIAN AND SEVERAL TREES. THE CONTACT WAS KNOCKED UNCONSCIOUSNESS AND THE PASSENGER WAS FATALLY INJURED. THE CONTACT WAS INJURED AND TRANSPORTED TO A HOSPITAL VIA AMBULANCE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED AND TOWED. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED BY HIS ATTORNEY NOT TO SPEAK TO ANYONE; THEREFORE, THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
'TAKATA RECALL' THE CAR HAVE STRONG SMELL OF GAS FUMES WHEN OVER A HALF TANK OF GAS. CANNOT PARK IN GRAGE OR SAT IN CAR FOR FUMES. WAS TOLD RECALL HAS EXPIRED. DON'T UNDERSTAND IF GM KNOWS THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT THEY WOULD NOT CANCEL THE RECALL. NEED HELP CONTACTING GM HEAD OFFICE.
SMELL GASOLINE FROM DRIVER'S SIDE .CHANGE GAS CAP DIDN'T HELP

I'M GETTING A STRONG ODOR OF RAW GASOLINE WHICH SEEMS TO BE COMING FROM THE GAS TANK AREA OF MY 2008 CORVETTE. I NOTICE IT AS BEING ESPECAILLY STRONG WHEN THE CAR HAS BEEN SITTING IN THE CLOSED GARAGE FOR A PERIOD OF TIME
STRONG FUEL SMELL WHEN FUEL TANK IS AT LEAST HALF FULL. LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER SUSPECTS A LEAK IN THE TANK FROM VICINITY OF TOP LEFT OF TANK. INVOICE FROM DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT IS ATTACHED.
CAR DID NOT RESPOND TO STEERING ON A TURN AT MODERATE SPEED ( 15-20 MPH) ON SLIPPERY ROAD SURFACE. THE TURN WAS TIGHT AND NEARLY A REVERSE IN DIRECTION. I APPROACHED THE TURN IN RAINY CONDITIONS TRAVELING AT 25 MPH ANTICIPATING THE TURN, LIFTED MY FOOT OFF OF THE ACCELERATOR. THE CAR WENT STRAIGHT. I INFORMED STATE FARM INSURANCE, VOLUNTEERING APPROVAL TO EXAMINE THE ON BOARD COMPUTER. I ALSO CONTACTED GM CORPORATION. STATE FARM CLAIM NO. [XXX]. GM CONTACT [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
"TAMARA RECALL" MY CORVETTE HAS A STRONG SMELL OF GAS WHEN BEING ON AND PARKED.
CRACKED CROSS-OVER PIPE CONNECTING THE FUEL TANKS. NOTICED A STRONG FUEL ODOR AFTER CAR WAS PARKED IN MY GARAGE, TOOK VEHICLE TO YATES GMC WHERE CAR WAS PURCHASED. TANKS WERE DROPPED AND A GM TECH DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A CRACKED CROSS-OVER PIPE THAT WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS AN EXTREME HAZARD AND I WAS FORTUNATE THAT THE ISSUE DID NOT RESULT IN AN EXPLOSION, I HAVE A GAS WATER HEATER IN MY GARAGE WHICH WAS FILLED (TO THE EXTREME) WITH GAS FUMES WHILE PARKED OVERNIGHT CONTACT YATES GMC AUTO SALES (GOODYEAR AZ) FOR DETAILS OF THE ISSUE AND REPAIR
AFTER FILLING UP MY CAR WITH FUEL, I PARKED IT IN THE GARAGE WHEN I GOT HOME. THE NEXT DAY, MY WIFE WOKE ME UP AND TOLD ME THAT THE GARAGE WAS FULL OF FUEL VAPORS. SUSPECTING THAT IT WAS COMING FROM THE CORVETTE, I LOOKED AROUND THE VEHICLE BUT DID NOT SEE ANY GAS LIQUID ON THE GARAGE FLOOR. HOWEVER BECAUSE THE SMELL WAS SO STRONG, I TOOK THE CAR OUT OF THE GARAGE AND PARKED IT IN THE DRIVEWAY. THE NEXT DAY I CHECKED AND THERE WAS STILL STRONG GAS SMELL AROUND THE VEHICLE. AT THAT POINT I DECIDED TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THEM EVALUATE THE PROBLEM. AFTER LEAVING THE CAR WITH THEM, THEY CONTACTED ME THE NEXT DAY AND TOLD ME THAT THE SMELL OF GAS WAS COMING FROM A CRACK IN THE FUEL TANK. THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT THE CAR WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE BECAUSE THE FUEL TANK IS LOCATED IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE ABOVE THE EXHAUST PIPES. I TOLD THE DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK AND ANY OTHER ITEM IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE THAT NEEDED REPAIR. THE FUEL TANK WAS REPLACE AT A COST OF $3056.97. I ALSO HAD THEM TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP SINCE THEY HAD THE TANK REMOVED AND HAD ACCESS TO THE FUEL PUMP. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO USE MY 10% MILITARY DISCOUNT OR THE COST WOULD HAVE BEEN HIGHER. AFTER THE CAR WAS REPAIRED, I RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE ON THE INTERNET AND SAW WHERE OTHER 2008 CORVETTE OWNERS HAD THIS VERY SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR CAR. IT IS EVIDENT THAT THERE IS A DEFECT IN THESE FUEL TANKS AND CHEVROLET SHOULD OFFICIALLY DO A RECALL ON THE 2008 CORVETTES AND ANY OTHER YEAR MODEL THAT HAS THE POTENTIAL TO DEVELOP CRACKS IN THE FUEL TANKS. IF THERE IS NO RECALL, SOMEONE COULD SERIOUSLY BE INJURED BY THE FUEL TANK PROBLEM. I HOPE BY DOCUMENTING THIS PROBLEM IT WILL BRING SOME TYPE OF POSITIVE RESOLUTION FROM CHEVROLET/GM. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 77,000.

THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER HUB ASSEMBLY SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,000.
ENGINE BEGAN TO RATTLE AND I STOPPED TO CHECK BUT SAW NO VISUAL PROBLEMS. NEXT DAY HAD IT SHIPPED TO MECHANIC TO CHECK AND FOUND THAT VALVES, GUIDES AND STEMS WERE OUT OF SPEC. STATED THAT THIS WAS A PROBLEM WITH HEADS FROM LS7 ENGINES. PIECE OF JUNK HE CALLED THEM BUT I CHOSE TO DISAGREE THATS WHY IM WRITING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE I BELIEVE IN GM. 50 YEARS LOYAL GM OWNER AND MY DAD WAS AND STILL DRIVES GMS (70 YEARS).

IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE.
