COMING OFF OF EXIT 50 ON SUNRISE HWY IN LONG ISLAND N.Y. A CROSS STREET LIGHT TURNED RED AND THE TRAFFIC WAS STOPPING SO I APPLIED THE BRAKES ON MY CAR, THE BRAKE PEDDLE WENT TO THE FLOOR WHILE TRYING TO STOP. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. THE CAR HAS 51823 MILES ON IT. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DETERMINED THAT THE CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET EQUINOX EQUIPPED WITH MICHELIN, TIRE LINE: LATITUDE TOUR, AND TIRE SIZE: P235/55R18 TIRES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS TREAD SEPARATION FROM BOTH REAR TIRES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE TIRES WERE NOT REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE VEHICLE AND TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000. THE DOT NUMBER WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
ENGINE IS CONSUMING AN INORDINATE AMOUNT OF OIL, POSSIBLY DUE TO WARPED CYCLINDERS. I TOLD THE DEALER IT WAS LEAKING OIL OR SOMETHING BECAUSE I COULDN'T KEEP ENOUGH OIL IN IT, THEY SAID THERE WAS NO LEAK AND THAT I NEED TO CHANGE THE OIL MORE OFTEN. TERRIBLE RATTLE HAS EXISTED SINCE SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE NEW IN 2010. TIMING CHAIN HAD TO BE REPLACED ONCE AND THE RATTLE WENT AWAY FOR A SHORT TIME. OTHER MECHANICS ARE SAYING CYLINDERS BECOME OVAL AND THEN IT CONSUMES OIL AND IF YOU DON'T NOTICE IT THE TIMING CHAIN BREAKS THE PLASTIC GUIDES DUE TO IMPROPER LUBRICATION.
WHILE AT RED LIGHT, I WENT TO PULL OUT AND CAR JUST TURNED OFF. AND HAD TO PUT IT IN PARK AND TURN CAR OFF AND TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR AND IT WOULDN'T START AND HAD TO DO IT AGAIN. *JS
2010 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO FAULTY FUEL PUMP RECALL PROBLEMS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE FUEL PUMP FAILED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. A RECALL INCLUDED ABOUT 41,000 VEHICLE, BUT IT DID NOT INCLUDE HIS VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SPUTTER AND CONSUME LARGE AMOUNTS OF GAS. *JB
WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTS IN THE MORNING FOR THE FIRST 15-20 SECONDS YOU COULD HEAR A LOAD RATTLING NOISE THEN THE NOISE GOES AWAY. I HAD CHANGE THE OIL FROM SYNTHETIC TO REGULAR 5W30 BECAUSE WHEN I DRAINED THE CRANK CASE THE ONLY THING I HAD LEFT WAS 1.5 QT, IM TRYING WITH THE REGULAR OIL TO SEE WHAT IT DOES .I HEAR THAT MANY EQUINOX OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH OIL CONSUMPTION. I WOULD LIKE TO REPORTED ,MAYBE ITS A PROBLEM AMONG THESE VEHICLES OWNERS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING IN A STORM, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED WORKING. I HAD TO PULL OVER AND WAIT OUT THE STORM, TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. I TOOK THE CAR TO A CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THAT THEY NEEDED TO REPLACE THE MOTOR FOR THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS. IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND COST ME $400. *TR THE CONSUMER FOUND RECALL 14V447000 (SEATS) BECAUSE THE SEAT HAD DROPPED TO THE FLOOR, THE DEALER STATED IT WAS NOT FOR THE 2010 MODEL. I PREVIOUSLY FILED A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA ON 7/10/16 CONCERNING THIS WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR PROBLEM. WIPERS COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING DURING TORRENTIAL RAIN ON I-95 @ 5PM DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC WHEN CHECKING FOR RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE I SEE A RECALL #16V582000 DATE 8/14/2016. THIS IS THE EXACT PROBLEM I HAD BUT THE RECALL IS ONLY FOR 2013 EQUINOX. I WENT TO CHEVY DEALER FOR REPAIR SHORTLY AFTER THE INCIDENT AND THIS PROBLEM IS PRECISELY WHAT HE DETERMINED WITH MY CAR. I STARTED THE VEHICLE THE STABILITRAC AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD MORE THAN A HALF MILE PER HOUR. HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO DEALER. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE 1 MONTH AGO PRE OWNED FROM THE DEALER. IT HAD GONE THRU THE GENERAL MOTORS 117 POINT INSPECTION TEST BEFORE I BOUGHT IT... I ONLY PUT ON 1000 MILES SINCE I PURCHASED IT. *JS
GM, USED A FELT LIKE MATERIAL ON THE 2010 EQUINOX BETWEEN THE FRONT FENDER AND THE FIRE WALL FOR SOUND DEADENING . I HAVE CHECKED OUT THEIR NEW MODELS AND THEY ARE USING IT ON ALL OF THEM NOW [TRUCKS,CARS,SUVS]. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THIS MATERIAL STAYS WET, COLLECTS SALT, MUD, ETC. AS WE DRIVE ON ROADS WHERE SALT IS USED IN THE US AND CANADA I HAVE REMOVED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE SO FAR. THE FIRE WALL AND FENDER BOTH HAVE SERIOUS RUST WHICH WILL LEAD TO A PERFORATION OF THE PASSENGER CABIN. THERE MUST BE A BETTER MATERIAL TO USE FOR THIS PURPOSE THAT WILL NOT STAY WET. WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 290 (NY), A HEAVY RAINFALL STARTED. DRIVER PUT WIPERS TO HIGH SPEED AND WIPERS STOPPED FUNCTIONING. WIPERS WERE AT THE END OF THE WIPE SWEEP. DRIVER WAS ABLE, DUE TO THE PRIOR USE OF "RAIN-X" TO SEE TO EXIT THE ROAD. WIPERS DID NOT REGAIN FUNCTIONALITY, AFTER VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AND WIPERS WERE ATTEMPTED TO BE USED AGAIN. DRIVER IS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE. *TR

THE MIXTURE CAUSED THE ENGINE TO RUN CONTINUOUSLY AND ROUGHLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,000.

SINCE PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE FOR KEFFER AUTOMOTIVE (CHARLOTTE, NC) IN 2012 WE'VE HAD TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY, ENGINE, AND COMPRESSOR. NOW IT APPEARS THAT THERE IS ANOTHER MAJOR MECHANICAL FLAW. EITHER THE MANUFACTURER OR DEALER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR SUCH A POORLY MADE VEHICLE. *TR
MY WIFE AND I PURCHASE THIS VEHICLE IN AROUND MID-JANUARY OF 2014. TWO WEEKS AFTER LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP WITH THE VEHICLE THE SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT COME ON. WE TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT FIXED. AFTER A DAY OR SO WE RECEIVED THE VEHICLE BACK AND THE ALERT WAS GONE. TWO WEEKS AFTER TAKING IT IN TO GET FIXED, THE ALERT POPS UP AGAIN. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT ON 12 MAY 2014 THE SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT HAS POPPED UP FOR THE FOURTH TIME IN FOUR MONTHS. IS THERE SOME SORT OF RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE OR THIS PART? I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND ANYTHING AND ALL WE CAN DO IS TAKE THE VEHICLE IN TO GET FIXED. LUCKILY THE LAST TIME THAT WE TOOK IT IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND THE ALERT CAME UP WHILE IT WAS IN THEIR POSSESSION. REGARDLESS, THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY IS IN DANGER DUE TO THE SAFETY BAGS NOT BEING ENGAGED WHEN THE ALERT POPS UP. *TR
STEERING STARTED ACTING ODD. BINDING UP WHEN TURNING. TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERS. FIRST THEY TOLD ME THEY RESET THE STEERING. TWO DAYS LATER BROUGHT IT BACK STILL BINDING. DETERMINED IT WAS THE STEERING ASSIST MOTOR. THE CAR DEALER HAD THE CAR FOR ALMOST A WEEK. TOLD ME THEY HAD TO ALSO REPLACE THE STEERING GEAR, MOTOR ASSEMBLY, AND STEERING WHEEL ANGLE SENSOR. TOLD ME CAR WAS REPAIRED. DROVE IT HOME APPROX. 20 MILES. CAR STEERING IS STILL BINDING UP. TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERS TWO DAYS LATER. THE MECHANIC DROVE THE CAR AND SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. NOW I AM AT A LOSS. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE ANSWER IS. THIS SEEMS LIKE A DANGEROUS SITUATION. *TR
THE CHEVROLET EQUINOX INSTRUMENT PANEL TOP PAD HAS A INTEGRATED COMPARTMENT IN THE CENTER. THE COMPARTMENT HAS A BRIGHT CHROME LATCH FOR OPENING THE COMPARTMENT. THE LATCH HAS A VERY REFLECTIVE SURFACE. WHEN DRIVING SOUTH EAST THE SUN REFLECTED OFF THE LATCH BLINDING THE DRIVER EVEN WITH SUNGLASSES. VIEW OF THE ROAD WAS LOST AND THE SEAT HAD TO BE REPOSITIONED TO MOVE THE DRIVERS EYES FROM THE REFLECTION. PHOTOGRAPH IS AVAILABLE. *TR
TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP FOR DRIVER SIDE SEAT ISSUES COME OUT WITH SEAT ISSUE FIXED BUT REAR DVD MONITORS DIDN'T WORK.
MY WIFE WAS MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN AND THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO COMPLETE THE TURN DUE TO FACT THAT SHE COULDN'T TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. SHE WAS JUST STARTING TO ACCELERATE THROUGH THE TURN SO SPEED WASN'T AN ISSUE. THANKFULLY SHE WASN'T TRAVELING AT A FASTER SPEED. WE WERE TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THE EQUINOX NEEDS A STEERING GEAR REPLACED. *JS
BOUGHT VEHICLE USED WITH ABOUT 30K MILES ON IT, AT FIRST OIL CHANGE WAS TOLD OIL WAS LOW, THIS CONTINUED OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL CHANGES, A FEW TIMES IT WAS FOUND TO BE COMPLETELY OUT OF OIL, NO OIL LEAK WAS FOUND, AT 39K MILES BALANCE SHAFT CHAIN HAD TO BE REPLACED, AT 55K MILES MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND MY CAR ALMOST CUT OFF ON ME WHILE I HAD MY INFANT SON WITH ME, THE CAM SHAFT HAD TO BE REPLACED, 56K THEY REPLACED PISTONS, RINGS, FUEL PUMP, AND TIMING CHAIN DUE TO USING EXCESS OIL, A FEW MONTHS LATER MY AIR COMPRESSOR HAD TO BE REPLACED AND NOW MY TRANSMISSION IS LEAKING. THE CAR HAS A LITTLE OVER 70K MILES ON IT. ALSO HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING OF A RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR, I WAS TOLD SEVERAL TIMES BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THIS WAS NORMAL HOWEVER I WAS TOLD BY SOMEONE AT THE CHEVROLET HOME OFFICE THAT THIS WAS NOT NORMAL, I ALSO DROVE ANOTHER EQUINOX WHILE MINE WAS IN THE SHOP BEING REPAIRED AND IT DID NOT MAKE THIS NOISE. DEALERSHIP HAS BE NOTIFIED OF ALL ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE AS WELL AS THE HOME OFFICE FOR GM. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY WINDOWS BECAME FOGGED. I TURNED ON MY DEFROSTER AND THE REAR WORKED, HOWEVER THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WOULD NOT CLEAR. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION I REALIZED NO AIR WAS COMING OUT OF THE FRONT DASH VENTS. WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR 3 MONTHS AGO IT WORKED. THE HEAT AND AC WORK BUT THE VENTS DON'T CHANGE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING IN THE HIGHWAY 93, WHEN SUDDENLY THE WHEEL START TO BE VERY HARD, AT THIS MOMENT I WAS TRESPASSING OTHER CAR AND FOR VERY CLOSE I COULDN'T COMPLETE THE OPERATION. I ALMOST HIT THE OTHER CAR, COULD CAUSE A VERY BAD ACCIDENT BECAUSE THE SPEED. UNFORTUNATELY EVERYTHING END OKAY, I WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE CAR AND STOP IN A SAFETY PLACE. *JS

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESET THE AIR BAG LIGHT BY MOVING A WIRE LOCATED UNDER THE DRIVERS SEAT HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 35,000. UPDATED 9/4/14*CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN REPAIRED. GM PAID HALF OF THE RECALL. THE CONSUMER WILL RECEIVE WHAT HE PAID. BOTH UNITS UNDER THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEAT WERE REPLACED. WHEN GAS IS ADDED TO VEHICLE GAS TANK. THE ENGINE IS HARD TO START. APPEARS AS IF ENGINE IS FLOODED. WILL EVENTUALLY START AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. *TR
OVER THE COURSE OF THE PAST TWO YEARS, THE TRANSMISSION STEADILY SHIFTED HARDER AND HARDER, SOMETIME THE GEARS WOULDN'T SHIFT UP, OR DOWN WITHOUT A 3~5 SECOND DELAY AT SPEEDS OF 30MPH OR 50MPH. AROUND MAR 18 2014, WE WERE GOING UP A HILL GOING ROUGHLY 50MPH ALL OF A SUDDEN, THERE WAS AN EXTERNAL ELECTRICAL NOISE, AND SECONDS AFTER, THE CAR WOULDN'T SHIFT INTO GEAR. AFTER GETTING OFF THE FREEWAY, THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF 1ST GEAR, AND WAS IN LIMP MODE. WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER THE DAY AFTER AND WAS TOLD THE 3-5-REVERSE WAVE PLATE OR ALSO COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS CLUTCH PLATE SHATTERED AND THE PIECES GOT INTO THE GEARS AND TORN UP ALL THE GEARS WITH IT. THE CAR WAS STILL JUST RIGHT UNDER THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY SO THE DEALER REPLACED THE WAVE PLATE AND THE BROKEN GEARS. BUT MAKE NO MISTAKE, THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. JUST GOOGLE FOR "CHEVY EQUINOX TRANSMISSION WAVE PLATE", OR "GM 3 5 REVERSE WAVE PLATE" YOU'LL SEE COUNTLESS GMC, CHEVY 2010+ OWNERS STILL ENCOUNTERING PRE-MATURE TRANSMISSION FAILURES DUE TO THIS VERY EXACT ISSUE. ESTIMATED REPAIR COST IS $600 AS YOU HAVE TO TAKE THE WHOLE DASH APART TO GET TO THE ACTUATOR. I THINK THIS PART SHOULD BE RECALLED AS THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF DEFECTIVE GMC EQUINOX AND TERRAIN ACTUATOR ISSUES ON THE WEB. POWER STEERING FAILURE. STEERING LOCKED UP. VEHICLE COULD BE STEERED ONLY WITH EXTREME MANUAL EFFORT. IT OCCURRED REGARDLESS OF THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE, FROM 0 TO 35 DURING THIS INCIDENT. WHEN WHEEL WAS TURNED IT WOULD NOT RETURN TO PREVIOUS POSITION. FOR EXAMPLE WHEN TURNING A CORNER, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STRAIGHTEN OUT WHEN THE TURN WAS COMPLETED UNLESS THE WHEEL WAS MANUALLY PULLED BACK, AGAIN WITH EXTREME EFFORT. LOCAL DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS CONTACTED BUT HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF ANY SUCH PROBLEM. DAYS LATER THE POWER STEERING RETURNED TO NORMAL BY ITSELF! THEN THE FAILURE HAPPENED AGAIN WITHOUT WARNING. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT WAS CONTINUOUSLY BEEPING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SEAT BELT SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,441.
SINCE THE PURCHASE OF MY CHEVY EQUINOX I HAVE HAD ENGINE TROUBLE RELATED TO THE OIL SYSTEM. FOR A PERIOD OF TIME I WAS INITIALLY GIVEN THE RUN AROUND IN REGARDS TO A SOLUTION. THE ENGINE NOISE MADE IT CLEAR TO ME THAT MY CAR NEEDED SOME TYPE OF REPAIR. MY PERSISTENCE ENABLED ME TO FINALLY HAVE THE PROBLEM SOLVED. I CANNOT BE MORE SPECIFIC ABOUT THAT EVENT, BUT KEEPING THAT INCIDENT IN MIND LEADS TO THE NEXT. I LATER BEGAN TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH OIL CONSUMPTION (SEVERAL MONTHS DOWN THE ROAD). DURING PERIODS IN BETWEEN OIL CHANGES I BEGAN TO PUT MORE AND MORE OIL IN MY CAR. THIS DIDN'T MAKE SINCE MY TRAVEL WAS LOCAL AND NOT MUCH. ( I HAVE BEEN OUT OF WORK SINCE LAST JUNE 2013). THAT TIME I DECIDED OR I WILL SAY INSISTED THE DEALER LOOK FURTHER INTO THE PROBLEM WHEN IT WAS THREE WEEKS AFTER AN OIL CHANGE AND IT WAS DOWN ALMOST FIVE QUARTS OF OIL. I GOT A LECHER ABOUT THE DAMAGE IT WOULD HAVE CAUSED. TO THE POINT OF THE PROBLEM WITH ALL THIS. I READ OTHER LETTERS OF COMPLAINTS ON THE WEBSITE IN REGARD TO OTHER ENGINE OR OIL RELATED ISSUES ON THE CHEVY EQUINOX. IT SEEMS MORE THAN APPARENT THAT THIS SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO PRIOR TO ACCIDENT, INJURY OR DEATH. EACH PROBLEM OR COMPLAINT ALSO HAD A NUMBER OF HOW MANY OF EACH WERE RECORDED. I WOULD HOPE THAT IT WOULDN'T TAKE FOR ME TO INJURE MYSELF OR BE JUST ANOTHER TRAGIC DEATH RELATED TO THE BIG CAR INDUSTRIES. TROUBLE SHOOTERS GET PAID BIG MONEY TO PREVENT SUCH TRAVESTIES. I WOULD THEN EXPECT THAT THESE GLITCHES WOULD BE WORKED OUT TO THE BENEFIT OF THE SMALL PEOPLE PAYING BIG MONEY FOR VEHICLES THAT HELP THEM MAKE IT ON THE JOURNEY TO A BIGGER A BETTER WAY OF LIFE. DRIVING WITHOUT FUNCTIONING DEFROST SYSTEM CAN DECREASE VISIBILITY AND COULD RESULT IN CRASH WITHOUT WARNING. TRANSMISSION IS FAILING. TRANSMISSION TYPE IS 6T40. IT APPEARS TO BE EITHER THE WAVE PLATE OR THE REVERSE DRUM. ACCORDING TO SEVERAL SERVICE CENTERS, THERE HAVE BEEN CONTINUING ISSUES WITH THIS TRANSMISSION AS WELL AS OTHER VERSIONS. I DO KNOW THAT CHEVY HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE ENGINE DUE TO A "CONCERN" OVER THE LOWER TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT PERCENTAGE OF VEHICLES NEED TO FAIL BEFORE GM WOULD BE FORCED TO DO SOMETHING BUT THEY OBVIOUSLY KNOW THERE IS AN ISSUE BECAUSE GM/DEALERSHIPS HAVE AGREED TO COVER SOME COSTS FOR CUSTOMERS THAT WERE THE ORIGINAL OWNERS AFTER 100K MILES. WAS DRIVING VEHICLE WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN ENTIRE DASH LIT UP AND CAR STALLED. MESSAGES INCLUDED SERVICE STABILITRAK, SERVICE ABS, ENGINE LIGHT, AND SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL. I WAS GIVEN A CONCIERGE VEHICLE AND INFORMED IT WOULD TAKE THEM THE WEEKEND TO FIX. WHEN I PICKED THE VEHICLE UP THEY CHARGED ME SAYING THAT IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY AND TRIED TO MAKE ME PAY FOR THE RENTAL AND I HAVE STILL NOT BEEN REIMBURSED FOR THE REPAIRS THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER WARRANTY OR THE RENTAL CAR. OUR SERVICE AIRBAGS LIGHT CAME ON. WE WERE TOLD BY OUR LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER THAT THIS COULD DISABLE AIRBAGS. UNFORTUNATELY THERE WAS A 2 WEEK BACKORDER FOR NEW SWITCH. WE COULD NOT USE THE VEHICLE FOR 2 WEEKS, RENTED ANOTHER VEHICLE AND THEN SPENT $750 TO REPAIR THE SWITCH. OF NOTE, THIS IS THE SAME PART THAT HAS BEEN RECALLED WITH THE NEAR IDENTICAL SISTER VEHICLE, THE CHEVROLET TRAVERSE. I SUSPECT THE SAME PROBLEM AND GM MAY NEED TO CONSIDER RECALLS FOR THE EQUINOX AS WELL. THEY ARE NEAR IDENTICAL VEHICLES, DASHES, CONTROLS, ETC. *TR

THIS CHEVY VEHICLE IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. I HAVE HAD OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEMS, ROUGH IDLING, AND LOSS OF GAS MILEAGE. IT IS OBVIOUS CHEVY/GM KNOW ABOUT THESE PROBLEMS. THEY HAVE ISSUED A PUZZLING LETTER ON JULY 13 ALERTING OWNERS THAT THERE MAY BE A PROBLEM WITH "THE CHROME LAYER ON THE BALANCE CHAIN PINS, ALLOWING THE CHAIN TO STRETCH. THIS WOULD CAUSE AN ENGINE NOISE AND IF LEFT UNTREATED, COULD CAUSE THE CHAIN TO BREAK, LEADING TO ENGINE DAMAGE. IN ADDITION, THE FUEL PUMP PLUNGER SHAFT SEAL MAY WEAR AND ALLOW FUEL TO LEAK INTO THE CRANKCASE..." ALSO ON JULY 19, 2013 CHEVY ISSUED #13-06-01-003B,: EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION....." THESE TWO PROBLEMS ARE CLOSELY RELATED BUT CHEVY REFUSES TO ISSUE A RECALL. IF YOU ARE DRIVING YOUR FAMILY AT 65 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE CHAIN BREAKS BECAUSE IT LACKS LUBRICATION, ENGINE POWER WILL BE LOST AND PROBABLY MANY LIVES. CHEVY IS AWARE THAT THESE SIGNIFICANT PROBLEMS EXIST AND INSTEAD OF BEING PROACTIVE THEY STALL THE OWNER BY REQUESTING A 2,000 MILE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. THAT TEST IS DESIGNED TO PUT THE BURDEN OF PROOF UPON THE OWNER AND NOT WHERE IT TRULY BELONGS, CHEVY. I HOPE SOMEONE TAKES THESE ISSUES SERIOUSLY BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. I QUICKLY ADDED OIL AND PERFORMED AN OIL CHANGE ASAP. I CALLED UP THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ASSURED ME AN OIL CHANGE IS DONE BEFORE EVERY PURCHASE. I ROUTINELY CHECK THE OIL AND ADD ABOUT A QUART A MONTH. AT THE END OF JULY 2014 I TOOK MY CAR TO HAVE THE AC CHECKED OUT AND I ASKED THE SERVICE CENTER TO LOOK AT THE ENGINE SINCE IT WAS LOSING ABOUT A QUART A MONTH. I GET THE CAR BACK A WEEK LATER AND THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. THEY PERFORMED AN OIL CHANGE AND ASKED THAT I BRING IT BACK FOR THE NEXT OIL CHANGE FOR AN INSPECTION. THIS WAS ON 8/1/2014 AND YESTERDAY 10/2/2014 I CHECKED THE OIL AND ONCE AGAIN THERE WAS NOT A DROP OF OIL. IT IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALERSHIP. BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER REAR SEAL FAILED AND FLUID COMPLETELY FILLED THE BRAKE BOOSTER CAUSING THE BRAKES TO APPLY. THE BRAKES WOULD NOT RELEASE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STOP IN THE TRAFFIC LANE WITHOUT ANY WARNING (BRAKE LIGHTS) TO THE VEHICLES BEHIND ALMOST CAUSING A REAR END COLLISION. *TR
