TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 15 MPH AND DOWN A STEEP HILL WHEN THE GEAR FAILED TO ENGAGE. THE CONTACT HAD TO ABRUPTLY DEPRESS THE BRAKES REPEATEDLY IN ORDER FOR THE GEARS TO RESPOND. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE GEARS WOULD ONLY SHIFT FROM FIRST TO THIRD, BUT NOT SHIFT INTO ANY LOWER GEARS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO DECELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE COMPUTER WAS RESET YET THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 27,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO LOWER GEAR, MOST OF THE TIME. UPDATED 10/24/11
MY 2010 CHEVY EQUINOX (PURCHASED 05/2010) HAS CONTINUOUSLY HAD ISSUES WHEN IDLING OR AT LOW SPEEDS IN THE CITY OR IN HEAVY HIGHWAY TRAFFIC, SINCE ABOUT A YEAR AFTER I PURCHASED IT. SOMETIMES THIS WILL CAUSE THE CAR TO STALL. THIS HAS BEEN PARTICULARLY SCARY AND PROBLEMATIC ON THE HIGHWAY IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC AND ON THE BAY BRIDGE DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. WHAT IS PARTICULARLY FRUSTRATING IS WHAT I AM TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE TEAM - "IT'S BECAUSE YOU'RE LOW ON OIL." WHEN I EXPLAIN THAT I JUST HAD AN OIL CHANGE 1,500 MILES AGO AND TOPPED OFF THE OIL A WEEK BEFORE, THEY SAID, "WELL THIS CAR BURNS A LOT OF OIL, AND YOU WERE DOWN A QUART. YOU SHOULD JUST CHECK IT EVERY WEEK AND KEEP TOPPING IT OFF." NO CONCERN FOR THE FACT THAT I AM DOING THIS, AND IT IS STALLING. NO CONCERN FOR THE FACT THAT THIS CAR IS 3 YEARS OLD AND BURNING THAT MUCH OIL. WHEN I ASK WHAT TYPE OF ENGINE PROBLEM WOULD RESULT IN THIS TYPE OF OIL CONSUMPTION, THEY QUICKLY CHANGE THE SUBJECT AND SAY THEY HAVE FOUND "NOTHING WRONG" OR THAT THEY ARE JUST "GOING BY WHAT GM SAYS TO DO, SINCE WE ARE ONLY THE SERVICE TEAM, NOT THE MANUFACTURER." AT THIS POINT, I BRING MY CAR IN ANYWHERE FROM ONCE EVERY OTHER MONTH TO MULTIPLE TIMES PER MONTH. SOMETIMES THE OIL IS LOW; SOMETIMES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. JUST LAST WEEK (10/15), AFTER I STARTED A CLAIM WITH GM AND TOLD THE SERVICE TEAM THAT I WAS FILING A COMPLAINT, THEY FINALLY AGREED TO RUN AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. WE DID NOT GET THAT FAR, THOUGH, AS MY CAR HAS BEEN ROUGH IDLING ALL WEEK AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS BACK ON - IT'S BACK WITH THE SERVICE FOLKS... JUST 5 DAYS AFTER BEING THERE LAST. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE DEFROSTER WAS NOT CLEARING THE WINDSHIELD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHERE THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V489000 (VISIBILITY:DEFROSTER/DEFOGGER SYSTEM) BUT WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE CAR WAS JERKING BACK AND FORTH LIKE I WAS HITTING THE GAS AND BRAKE OVER AND OVER. I STOPPED AT A STOPLIGHT AND THE ENGINE MADE ANOTHER JERK AND THEN DIED. THERE WERE NO ENGINE LIGHTS OR FAULTS. I STARTED THE VEHICLE AGAIN AND IMMEDIATELY DIED AGAIN. I STARTED IT AGAIN AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE FOR ABOUT ANOTHER MILE BEFORE I WAS STOPPED AT A STOPLIGHT AND DIED AGAIN. IT DID THIS TWO MORE TIMES BEFORE I REACHED HOME. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A GM SERVICE CENTER. THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THIS WASN'T THE FIRST ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL OF VEHICLE WHICH IS AN ACTUATOR PROBLEM. THEY RECOMMENDED I CHANGE THE OIL MORE FREQUENTLY WHICH I DID BUT LESS THAN A YEAR LATER THE VEHICLE AGAIN EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE. ANOTHER SERVICE CENTER ACKNOWLEDGED IT WAS A COMMON ISSUE BUT THAT THEY CAN ONLY REPLACE THE ACTUATOR IF IT HAS FAILED. *TR
HAVE BEEN HAVING THE STICKY STEERING PROBLEM OTHERS ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT. IT'S NOTICEABLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS ON A SMOOTH ROAD SURFACE AND SEEMS TO HAPPEN IN HOTTER, HUMID WEATHER. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER TWO TIMES BEFORE TO BE CHECKED AND THEY TOLD ME JUST WHAT I THOUGHT THEY WOULD TELL ME. THERE ARE NO TROUBLE CODES STORED IN THE COMPUTER, THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND OF COURSE GM IS NOT AWARE OF ANY OTHER PROBLEMS LIKE THIS ONE. I FIND THAT HARD TO BELIEVE SINCE SO MANY OTHERS ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM I'M HAVING. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE WITH THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ON THE EQUINOX, IT REALLY DOES SEEM LIKE A HAZARD BECAUSE OF IT LOCKING UP WHICH IS VERY NOTICEABLE AND DEPENDING ON THE CIRCUMSTANCE COULD BE HARD TO HANDLE IF NEEDING TO STEER QUICKLY IN A SITUATION.
I HAD ALREADY PROCESSED A VEHICLE COMPLAINT A FEW MONTHS AGO. THIS IS THE FIFTH TIME MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP WITH CHEVROLET. TWO OF THE FIVE TIMES (SO FAR) THEY WERE ONLY ABLE TO MAKE TWO REPAIRS, AND WERE CERTAIN THEY HAVE SOLVED THE PROBLEM. THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE WAS APRIL 29TH. I HAD JUST PICKED MY CAR UP FROM THOMAS CHEVROLET AFTER BEING SERVICED FOR THE SAME INCIDENT THE PAST 4 TIMES, WITH THEIR ASSURANCE MY VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. MY BOYFRIEND AND I WERE DRIVING ON I-95 SOUTH TOWARDS BALTIMORE, WHEN MY CAR GAVE OUT. THE RPMS WENT UP AND DOWN, TACH WAS ACCELERATING UP TO 8-9 AND MY SPEEDOMETER READ 0MPH. AT THE TIME WE WERE GOING 65MPH, AND THEN NEXT THING WE KNOW THE CAR AUTOMATICALLY DECELERATED 35MPH. MY BOYFRIEND HAD NO CONTROL OVER THE ACCELERATION OF THE VEHICLE. WE WERE IN A 5-LANE HIGHWAY AND HAD TO SAFELY GET OVER 4 LANES. WE WERE ALMOST KILLED/SEVERELY INJURED MULTIPLE TIMES BY CARS/TRUCKS, WHILE TRYING TO GET OVER THE LANES. THIS IS THE FIFTH TIME THIS HAS OCCURRED AND THIRD TIME I HAD ALMOST LOST MY LIFE. I AM IN SEVERE NEED OF ASSISTANCE. CHEVROLET HAS TOLD ME MULTIPLE TIMES "NOTHING IS WRONG WITH MY CAR, AND ASSURED MY SAFETY". THIS CAR IS DEFECTED AND I AM UNSURE AS TO HOW TO PROVE CHEVROLET IT IS UNSAFE. 2010 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO TIMING CHAIN RECALL DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE TIMING CHAIN WAS INSTALLED ON APRIL 24, 2013. FIVE MONTHS LATER, THE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING ROUGH, STALLING AND SHAKING AND RATTLING WHILE IT WAS IN IDLE. HE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE TIMING CHAIN. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT INFORMED HIM, THE RECALL WAS SERVICED DURING THE APRIL 24, 2013 VISIT. ON NOVEMBER 22,2013 ANOTHER TIMING CHAIN WAS INSTALLED. THE CONSUMER HAS EXPERIENCED SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE, SINCE APRIL 2011. THE DEALER REPLACED A WORN COMPRESSOR, THE BALANCE SHAFT CHAINS, OXYGEN SENSOR, HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP, INTAKE ACTUATOR, INTAKE SOLENOID AND THE TRANSFER CASE.*JB
MY 2010 CHEVY EQUINOX IS EQUIPPED WITH AN ELECTRIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM. AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR AT LEAST 45 MINUTES, THE STEERING WHEEL STICKS OR BINDS WHEN TRYING TO MAKE MINOR LANE CORRECTION CHANGES. THIS IS MOST NOTICEABLE ON SMOOTH ROAD SURFACES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. AN EXTRA AMOUNT OF FORCE MUST BE APPLIED TO THE STEERING WHEEL TO GET IT TO MOVE AWAY FROM IT'S STUCK POSITION BUT ONCE IT DOES MOVE, THE EXTRA AMOUNT OF FORCE USED CAUSES THE STEERING WHEEL TO TRAVEL PAST IT'S INTENDED POSITION, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO OVER CORRECT AND TRAVEL TOO FAR TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THIS CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS AND COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, ESPECIALLY DURING WET AND SLIPPERY ROAD CONDITIONS. THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE TAKEN VERY SERIOUSLY. THIS VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 9,000 MILES ON IT AND THIS CONDITION DID NOT EXIST UNTIL AROUND THE 8,000 MARK. *TR
OUR 2010 CHEVROLET EQUINOX HAS DANGEROUS STICKY STEERING AT SPEEDS OF AROUND 70 MPH. MORE EFFORT THAN NORMAL IS REQUIRED TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AT THESE SPEEDS, BUT THEN IT "BREAKS LOOSE" AND CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO SWERVE SLIGHTLY. THIS HAS OCCURRED SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW IN JANUARY 2010. THE LOCAL CHEVROLET SERVICE DEPARTMENT TEST DROVE IT AND SAID THIS WAS NORMAL. I STRONGLY DISAGREE! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE, A TRANSPORT MODE WARNING ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND ALL OF THE GAUGES STOPPED ILLUMINATING AS A RESULT. AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TURN ON THE IGNITION AND HOLD THE KEY IN THAT POSITION FOR APPROXIMATELY TEN SECONDS TO TRY AND ATTEMPT TO REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 30,000. UPDATED 02/09/12*LJ
2010 EQUINOX LTZ DROVE TO WORK PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TURNED THE IGNITION OFF TRIED TO GET OUT OF THE DOORS AND THE DOORS WOULD NOT OPEN. I TRIED TO OPEN THE DOOR WITH THE KEY FOB IT STILL WOULD NOT OPEN. I THEN TRIED TO UNLOCK THE DOOR WITH THE SWITCH ON THE DASH OF THE CAR AND IT GAVE A SMALL BEEP BUT STILL WOULD NOT UNLOCK. I TRIED TO OPEN ALL FOUR DOORS TO NO AVAIL. I OPENED THE BACK HATCH AND CRAWLED OUT THROUGH IT. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER TO THEM LOOK AT IT AND THEY SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING. I WAS REALLY AFRAID BECAUSE IF THERE WAS A FIRE I COULDN'T GET OUT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS ABNORMALLY CONSUMING TWO QUARTS OF OIL PER MONTH. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE THE OIL RINGS WERE REPLACED. THE DEALER ASKED THE CONTACT TO WAIT UNTIL THEIR NEXT OIL CHANGE TO SEE IF THE VEHICLE WAS STILL CONSUMING OIL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF OIL LESS THEN 500 MILES AFTER THE OIL RINGS WERE REPLACED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE OIL WARNING LIGHT DID NOT ILLUMINATE TO INDICATE THAT THAT THE OIL LEVEL WAS LOW. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
HAS A TAPPING NOISE IN THE ENGINE TOOK IT TO DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT THEY CAN,T HEAR OR FINE THE PROBLEM,I TOLD THE SHOPMANAGER THAT THEY WILL NOT FIND IT WILL THE WINDOW UP,ALSO STARTED THE SUV UP ONE MORNING AND THE FUEL RANG SAY 303 MILE I DROVE 7 MILES TO WORK AND SAW THAT IT SAID 294 SO THE SUV THAN US 9 GALLON OF GAS IN SEVEN MILES.THE MERCHANT SAID THAT WAS NORMAL THAT,S A LIE.THE DEALER JUST DON,T WANT TO FIX THE PROBLEM,IF IT NOT ANY MONEY IN IT FOR THEM THAN THEY DON,T WANT TO FIX THE PROBLEM. AIR BAG LIGHT ON THE DRIVER'S INSTRUMENTATION ILLUMINATES WHEN TEMPERATURES DROP BELOW MID-20'S. THIS HAS HAPPENED BEGINNING IN LATE NOVEMBER OR EARLY DECEMBER 2010. THE DATE BELOW (JAN. 23, 2011) IS TODAY'S DATE, SINCE IT HAPPENED AGAIN THIS MORNING. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER, WHICH SAYS ONLY THAT THERE WAS A CODE BUT NO INDICATION AS TO WHAT IS WRONG. DEALER RESET CODE. ALSO CONTACTED ONSTAR WHEN IT OCCURRED AND RECEIVED A CODE BACK (B0023). DEALER VERIFIED THAT THEY PULLED THE SAME CODE. WE PURCHASED THE CAR IN NOVEMBER 2009, BUT HAD NO PROBLEMS THE FIRST WINTER. WE ARE NOW IN THE SECOND WINTER, WHEN THE PROBLEM SHOWED UP. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF SOMEONE IS SITTING IN PASSENGER SEAT OR NOT, AND IT DOESN'T MATTER IF WE ARE DRIVING OR PARKED (IT ACTUALLY COMES ON WHEN WE START THE CAR IN VERY COLD WEATHER, SO THE CAR IS NOT MOVING AT THIS POINT). BUT THE AIR BAG LIGHT DOES ILLUMINATE (ALMOST A GUARANTEE) WHEN THE TEMPERATURE DROPS BELOW 25 DEGREES. AFTER DRIVING SEVERAL MILES OR SEVERAL MINUTES, THE LIGHT GOES OUT. I SUSPECT (AND THE DEALER CONCURS) THAT IT MAY BE WIRE HARNESS OR SENSOR CONTACTS THAT ARE SEPARATING IN EXTREME COLD (DUE TO METALLIC CONTRACTION). DEALER SAID THE FACT THAT THE LIGHT COMES ON SHOULD BE NO PROBLEM IF IT GOES OFF AFTER A WHILE. I CHALLENGED HIM ON IT AND ADDED, "YES, AS LONG AS THE VEHICLE IS NOT INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT DURING THAT TIME," AT WHICH STATEMENT DEALER SERVICE MAN HEM-HAWED AROUND. I THINK THIS IS AN ISSUE. *LN
ON JAN 17TH,2011 MY VEHICLE WAS WRECKED BY THE DEALER ON SITE OF DEALERSHIP. THE WHOLE FRONT END WAS CAVED IN ON CENTER. THE DRIVER A MECHANIC AT DON WOODS CHEVROLET WAS DRIVING AT A HIGHER THEN NORMAL SPEED. HE HIT A POLE DEAD CENTER AND THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE DRIVER WAS INJURED TO WHAT EXTENT I AM NOT SURE, BUT I AM NOT WANTING THIS CAR BACK FEELING THE AIRBAG MAY DEPLOY AT ANYTIME DUE TO THE HIT IT TOOK OR IT ISN'T SAFE AND WILL NOT DEPLOY UPON AN ACCIDENT. *TR
MY NEW 2010 CHEVY EQUNOX DEVELOPED A PROBLEM WITH ITS ELECTRIC STEERING AFTER IT GOT WARMED UP AND AS DRIVING SPEED INCREASED. DEALERS KEPT TELLING US THAT THERE WAS NO ISSUE SINCE THEY COULD NOT DETECT AN ERROR CODE. ON TRIP TO FLORIDA, STEERING BECOME SO DIFFICULT THAT IT TOOK TWO HANDS TO STEER AT ANY SPEED ABOVE 50 MPH. DEALER (VIENCE FL.) FINALLY CHANGED OUT COMPLETE STEERING GEAR AND PROBLEM WENT AWAY! *TT
BOTH HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING TEMPERATURE IS FLUXUATES ON IT'S OWN. UNABLE TO GET ENOUGH HEAT OR COOL WHEN OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE IS QUITE COLD OR QUITE WARM.
PURCHASED A 2010 EQUINOX,NEW WITH 23 MILES, NOTICED RIGHT AWAY THAT I HAD TO PUT OIL IN SEVERAL TIME WHEN I FILLED UP WITH GAS. TOOK IN FOR 3,00 MILE CHECK WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. THIS HAS BEEN CONTINUOUS, I ALWAYS CARRIED OIL WITH ME AND GO OIL CHANGES EVERY 1,500 TO 2,000 MILE. CAR FINALLY BROKE DOWN THIS WEEKEND AND WAS TOWED TO DEALER FROM WHICH I PURCHASED. SOME THING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS, IT NO LAUGHING MATTER TO SPEND 25,000 TO 30,000 ON A CAR AND IT FALLS APART AT 71,000 AND I AM NOT EVEN THROUGH PAYING FOR IT. *JS
WHEN ACCELERATING TO PULL ONTO HIGHWAY, ENGINE STALLS WITH NO RESPONSE FROM ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND SOMETIMES ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUTS OFF AND YOU HAVE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM THAT HAPPENS OFTEN. MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR THIS ISSUE BUT THE DEALERSHIP HAS YET TO FIND THE PROBLEM. I HAVE ALSO CONTACTED CHEVROLET CUSTOMER SUPPORT ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND TOLD THEM OF MY CONCERNS OF HAVING AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND OWNERS OF 2010-12 CHEVROLET EQUINOXS ALL OVER THE UNITED STATES ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR

I BOUGHT A 2010 CHEVROLET EQUINOX IN JULY OF 2010. IT HAD 5,500 MILES ON IT WHEN I STARTED SEEING PATCHES OF THOUSANDS OF TINY CRACKS ON THE WINDSHIELD. YOU COULD ONLY SEE THEM WHEN THE CAR WAS FACING THE SUN. I WASHED THE CAR ALL SUMMER MYSELF, AND I WAS VERY CAREFUL. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, AND HE POINTED OUT THAT IT COVERED THE WINDSHIELD AND ALL THE SIDE AND BACK WINDOWS. IT LOOKS LIKE SOMEONE SANDED ALL THE WINDOWS WITH A FINE SANDPAPER. HE SAID THAT HE HAS SEEN THIS MANY TIMES BEFORE, BUT GM WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT, BECAUSE THEY SAY IT IS NOT A DEFECT. STEERING STICKS WHEN HAVING TO MAKE A SLIGHT ADJUSTMENT IN KEEPING THE VEHICLE TO DRIVE IN STRAIGHT LINE. THIS OCCURS WHEN DRIVING ON A FREEWAY AT SPEEDS ABOVE 50 MPH. THE STEERING ALSO STICKS WHEN STEERING INTO A SLIGHT BEND ON A FREEWAY. THIS CAUSES AN OVER CORRECTION IN KEEPING THE VEHICLE IN THE DESIRED PATH. THIS OVER CORRECTION DOES NOT RESULT IN DRIVING THE VEHICLE OUTSIDE OF THE LANE UNLESS YOU WERE ALREADY RIDING THE DIVIDER BETWEEN LANES. *TR

MY WIFE AND I BOUGHT A PREOWNED 2010 EQUINOX WITH LOW MILEAGE AND A SHORT TIME LATER I WAS CHECKING FLUID LEVELS AND NOTICED THE OIL WAS 2QTS LOW, ADDED OIL. I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW EQUINOX FROM CHEVROLET IN 08/31/2010. SINCE 10/30/2010, I'VE HAD ONGOING ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE. TWO INCIDENTS OF WHICH, I ALMOST HAD NEAR-DEATH CAR ACCIDENTS. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME I AM IN A RENTAL CAR, TOTALING TO ABOUT A MONTH SO FAR IN RENTALS. FIRST INCIDENT IN OCTOBER, I HAD TO DRIVE WITH MY HAZARDS ON TO EVEN GET TO THE DEALERSHIP. ON AUG 15, 2010 MY NEW CHEVY EQUINOX, WITH ONLY 717 MILES ON IT, STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ST. IT WAS TOWED (MIRAK CHEVROLET) ON SUNDAY AUG 15TH, AND THEY DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM UNTIL TUES. AUG 24TH. IN THE INTERIM I HAD BEEN TOLD THAT THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND FINALLY A WHOLE NEW TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE ORDERED. I HAVE CALLED THE CHEVROLET CORP. OAKLAND, CA CHEVY DEALER INFORMED US THAT WITH THIS LIGHT ON, THERE IS NO AIRBAG PROTECTION. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED A "FAULTY MODULE". ABOUT ONE MONTH LATER, THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURS. I TRY CALLING THE OAKLAND DEALERSHIP TO BRING THE CAR IN, AND NO ANSWER. AFTER 2 WEEKS OF CALLING, I STOP BY DEALERSHIP AND IT'S CLOSED. THE DEALER RECOMMEND THAT I COME IN EVERY FEW WEEKS AND THEY WOULD RESET THE CODES AND THIS WOULD HELP THE ISSUE BUT NO FIX SINCE THE COMPUTER WOULD AGAIN ADJUST SHIFT POINTS. ANOTHER OPTION WAS TO TRADE UP TO A 6 CYL MODEL ( PLUS $10K) WHICH DOES NOT EXHIBIT THE PROBLEM. THIS IS ALSO A SAFETY ISSUE IF THIS OCCURED WHILE GOING INTO A WET CORNER AND EXPERIENCE A HARD SHIFT CAUSING TIRES TO LOOSE TRACTION. THE TAKE AWAY POINT FROM THIS COMMENT IS THAT GM FINALLY RECOGNIZES A SERIOUS SITUATION, UNFORTUNATELY THAT HAVE NO FIX OTHER THAT BUY A NEW 6 CYL MODEL. CLOSING COMMENT: THE 2010 MODEL HAS CLOSE TO A 100 SERVICE BULLETINS WHILE THE 2011 HAS ONLY ABOUT 10. OBVIOUSLY THE 2010 WAS AN EXPERIMENT (BETA TEST) AND WE HELPED THEM FIX PROBLEMS BY DRIVING AND COMMENTING ON ISSUES. THE 2011 WAS THE RESULT OF MOST OF THE FIXES. *TT
IN NEW CHEVY VEHICLES THERE IS A CENTER STORAGE COMPARTMENT LOCATED ABOVE THE CENTER CONSOLE. THIS IS HELD DOWN IN PLACE BY A SIMPLE PUSH BUTTON. THE BUTTON HOWEVER IS PROBLEMATIC AS IN SOME TRIMS IT IS A CHROME FEATURE. IN SUNNY CONDITION, THE REFLECTION FROM THE CHROME PUSH BUTTON REFLECTS INTO THE DRIVER'S EYES. I HAD A 'STICKY' STEERING PROBLEM BACK ON JAN. 2010 DURING A TRIP NORTH TO CANADA. IT HAPPENED AGAIN LAST WEEK ON A LONG TRIP TO SANDUSKY OHIO, AND IT HAS GOTTEN WORSE! BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE I THINK THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS ONLY ON VERY FLAT HIGHWAY IN GOOD CONDITION, SUCH AS THE OHIO TURNPIKE AND 405 IN CANADA. A FEW ISSUES...... THE BIGGEST BEING THE FACT THE VEHICLE WAS BRAND NEW IT HAS HAD A SHAKE IN THE STEERING WHEEL AS WELL AS THE WHOLE VEHICLE. YOU CAN VISUALLY SEE AND FEEL THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKE WHILE DRIVING. HAD IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP ON MANY OCCASIONS, THEY BALANCES THE TIRES, CHECKED THE WHEELS, GUARANTEED ME IT WAS THE TIRES, REPLACED 2 AND SAID ALL FIXED! NOPE ANNOYED THAT THIS WAS THE 5TH VISIT, ASKED FOR 4 NEW TIRES AND I PAID THE DIFFERENCE TO UPGRADE FROM THE HANKOOK'S TO THE MICHELIN'S. PICKED VEHICLE UP AND THE SHALE WAS STILL THERE, AND THEY SCRATCHED 2 OF THE WHEELS WHILE CHANGING THE TIRES. ADVISED THE DEALERSHIP I WOULD ADDRESS THIS WHEN I NEEDED AN OIL CHANGE AS I HAD ENOUGH! TOOK IT IN ON A TUESDAY AM THEY ADVISED ME THEY WERE GOING TO CHANGE A AND TRY A FEW THINGS.... FRIDAY THEY CALL ME AND SAY THEY ALSO HAD AN ENGINEER FROM HEAD OFFICE LOOK AT IT, AND NO FIX! SO I HAVE TO GO PICK UP A VEHICLE THAT I BOUGHT BRAND NEW, AND IT SHAKES? I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT USED! I AM NOW GOING TO TALK TO THE OWNER AND SAY THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE! APPARENTLY ITS A V6 ISSUE? ENGINE SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON. STOPPED TO CHECK THE SYSTEM AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START. TOWED IT TO NEARBY GM DEALER. DIAGNOSED AS A FUEL PRESSURE MODULE FAILURE. DEALER ORDERED THE PART AND WILL INSTALL IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE MADE A SUDDEN MOVEMENT AND PULLED WHEN SHIFTED. THE CONTACT PARKED THE VEHICLE AND CONTINUED DRIVING, AND THE FAILURE WAS RESOLVED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS NOT PRESENT IF THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS ACTIVATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE DEALER INSTALLED A DATA RECORDER, BUT NO FAILURES COULD BE DETERMINED. THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE TACHOMETER SHIFTED BETWEEN HIGH AND LOW RPMS SPORADICALLY. THE CONTACT AS WELL EXPERIENCED NO MOBILITY WHEN TRYING TO CHANGE GEARS FROM PARK TO REVERSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 22,503. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,200.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 84,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

ONSTAR WAS CONTACTED AND PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC. THEY ADVISED THAT THE AIR BAG WAS NOT FUNCTIONING. THE DEALER REPAIRED AND RE-ROUTED THE SIDE IMPACT WIRES UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT. THE FAILURE PERSISTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER CLEARED THE FAILURE CODES AND ADVISED THE FAILURE WAS INTERMITTENT AND THEY COULD NOT PROVIDE A REMEDY TO CORRECT IT. THERE WERE NO FURTHER REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,376 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 13,739.
