TAKE IT TO SIERRA CHEVROLET ON MONROVIA, THE PERSON ON SERVICE DEPARTMENT, MENTION THAT I NEED TO PAY $150 FOR DIAGNOSTIC THE PROBLEM, + NEED TO PAY 3 OIL CHANGE TO SEE IF THIS TRUCK HAS THE ISSUE MENTION ON BULLETIN: 13-06-01-003F. WHY I NEED TO PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT IS NOT MY FAULT. DEFECT OF MANUFACTURING. MOTION.

IT WAS RAINING VERY HARD ON A SATURDAY AFTERNOON, AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WERE ON HIGH. THE DRIVER WAS PULLING THE CAR INTO A PARKING LOT WHEN THE WIPERS SUDDENLY STOPPED MID-SWIPE. THE WIPER WAS LEFT DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE DRIVER'S LINE OF SIGHT. THE DRIVER PARKED AND TRIED TO PUSH GENTLY TO GET THE WIPER "UNSTUCK", BUT EVENTUALLY JUST PUSHED IT TO THE WIPER RESTING POSITION. THE WIPERS NO LONGER MOVE AT ALL. WE ASSUME THAT THE WIPER GEARS BROKE OR BECAME SEIZED WHILE RUNNING, BUT WE WILL NOT KNOW UNTIL A MECHANIC LOOKS AT THEM. WE NEED TO WAIT UNTIL IT IS NOT RAINING TO DRIVE TO THE MECHANIC AND GET THIS ISSUE FIXED. IF THIS HAPPENED ON A HIGHWAY OR BUSY STREET, IT COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL. WE UNDERSTAND THERE IS ALREADY A 2013 CHEVY EQUINOX RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. IT SHOULD ALSO BE EXTENDED TO THE 2012 CHEVY EQUINOX YEAR WE OWN.
THIS VEHICLE FREQUENTLY LOSES CHARGE ON BATTERY BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR ARE NEW. VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 70K MILES ALSO THROWS UP COMPUTER CODES RADIO TURNS ON AND OFF WHEN IT WANTS TO. I PURCHASED IT USED WITH 40K MILES AND HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE. I HAVE QUOTES FOR OVER 2K IN REPAIRS AND WAS TOLD AT TIME OF PURCHASE ALL RECALLS WERE CARED FOR. WAS PURCHASED CERTIFIED PREOWNED FROM A DEALERSHIP. EVERY TIME I FIX SOMETHING THERE'S ANOTHER PROBLEM.
WAS TOLD BY MY MECHANIC THE VEHICLE WAS BURNING OIL. FOUND OUT IN MAY 2017 THAT CHEVY IS AWARE OF A DEFECTIVE PISTON RING PROBLEM THAT CAUSES THIS. THEY HAVE BEEN AWARE SINCE AT LEAST 2015. WAITED 2 YEARS TO NOTIFY ME BY MAIL. WHEN I WENT TO A DEALER TO HAVE PROBLEM FIXED I WAS TOLD VEHICLE HAS TOO MANY MILES ON IT. IT WOULD NOT HAVE HAD TOO MANY MILES HAD I BENN NOTIFIED 2 YEARS AGO!
THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ON MY VEHICLE (VIN #2GNALDEK6C396483) STOPPED WORKING WHEN THE WIPERS WERE MOVED TO HIGH SPEED. THE DEALERSHIP (NORTHSTAR CHEVROLET IN CLIFTON PARK NY) REPLACED THE WIPER MODULE (PART #84241847) AND PLUG (PART # 15259076) ON 06/07/2017. THIS ISSUE SEEMS TO BE CONSISTENT WIT THE RECENTLY ANNOUNCE RECALL OF 2013 CHEVROLET EQUINOX VEHICLES WITH WINDSHIELD WIPER ISSUES. MY VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY IN A PARKING LOT WHEN THIS OCCURRED. WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE HEAVY RAIN.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND MY WIPERS FELL APART AND THE WIPER TRANSMISSION STOP WORK AND I HAD NO WIPERS AT ALL. I WAS TRAVELING AT HIGH SPEED OF 60 MILES AN HOUR DURING A WINTER STORM. I HAD NO VISIBILITY AT ALL. I WAS ALMOST KILLED BY A TRACTOR TRAILER WHO WAS TRAILING ME FROM BEHIND.
ON MAY 27TH I WAS OPENING THE LIFT GATE TO UNLOAD ITEMS. THE CAR WAS OFF. I OPENED THE LIFT GATE USING THE BUTTON UNDER THE HANDLE.THE DOOR OPENED FULLY. I REACHED IN THE CAR TO REMOVE LUGGAGE. THE DOOR CLOSED QUICKLY ON MY BACK AND STOPPED JUST BEFORE PINNING ME IN THE DOOR WAY. THE DOOR IMMEDIATELY OPENED A SECOND TIME AND I MOVED QUICKLY OUT OF THE WAY. AS SOON AS IT OPENED FULLY,IT SLAMMED COMPLETELY SHUT. I AM STILL UNABLE TO USE THE LIFT GATE SAFELY.
DURING A RAINSTORM, AND WHILE AT HIGHWAY SPEED, MY FRONT WIPERS FAILED. TOOK CAR TO DEALER FOR REPAIR, HAD CORRODED AND BROKEN WIPER MODULE REPAIRED/REPLACED. WAS TOLD THAT ONLY THE 2013 OR LATER MODELS WERE RECALLED EVEN THOUGH THIS EXACT PROBLEM OCCURRED ON MY 2012 MODEL WHICH THE DEALER WAS AWARE IS THE SAME PART AND ISSUE. PAID FOR THE SERVICE BUT ASKING WHY THIS RECALL WAS NOT EXTENDED TO OTHER MODELS WHEN THE SAME FAILURE IS OCCURRING. FILED A REPORT WITH GM ON THIS ISSUE AS WELL BUT NO RESOLUTION ON REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE REPAIR. THE ISSUE NEARLY CAUSED A HIGHWAY SPEED ACCIDENT AND SIGNIFICANT COST DUE TO TRAVEL DELAYS.
BROKEN TIMING CHAIN AFTER ONLY 4 YEARS OF OWNING THE CAR. WHEN I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP THEY STATED THAT THEY DID ISSUE A RECALL FOR TIMING CHAINS FOR 2012 EQUINOX'S, HOWEVER MY CAR WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THIS SPECIFIC RECALL, SO THEY WOULD NOT BE COVERING IT. WHEN THIS CHAIN BROKE, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE, AND ULTIMATELY STOPPED RUNNING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. THERE WAS NO WARNING THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE.
SITTING AT RED LIGHT, IDLING BECAME A LITTLE ROUGH, WHEN LIGHT TURNED GREEN I TRIED TO GO AND THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. STARTED IT BACK UP AND IT DID IT AGAIN; TOOK 3 TIMES BEFORE IT CRANKED AND STAYED CRANKED. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME NOW ABOUT THREE DIFFERENT TIMES AT RED LIGHT AND STOP SIGN. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE, THAT IT MAY NOT RESTART OR THAT I MAY BE IN TRAFFIC AND END UP GETTING IN AN ACCIDENT WITH MY CHILDREN.
THIS VEHICLE HAS KNOWN OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUES. IN APRIL 2016 THE VEHICLE WAS LURCHING AND SHAKING. DURING SERVICE OF THE VEHICLE THEY STATED THE OIL WAS LOW, WHICH HAS BEEN ON ONGOING ISSUE. WE WERE ADVISED TO BRING IT BACK IN AUGUST FOR AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. WE TOOK IT IN FOR THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. NOW IN MAY 2017 WE ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUES. INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH THE DEALERSHIP NOW HAS NO RECORD OF THE OIL ISSUES, INCLUDING THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. THE DEALERSHIP RUMMAGED THROUGH THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT AND STATED THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY GETTING OIL CHANGES EVERY 6000. IN FACT, NOT ALL TO THE OIL CHANGE RECEIPTS GO IN THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT. WE BELIEVE GM IS ATTEMPTING TO HIDE THE ISSUE. ULTIMATELY THE VEHICLE WILL LURCH AND CAUSE PERSONAL INJURY OR PROPERTY DAMAGE.
OIL CONSUMPTION TEST SHOWED MOTOR USING OIL BEFORE 1000 MILES.I HAD PURCHASED AN ADDITIONAL WARRANTY BUT IT ISN'T WORTH THE PAPER IT'S WRITTEN ON.I HAVE LOOKED OVER OTHER COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT THESE CARS AND THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE WITH THIS CAR. HAVE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE GAS CAP TWICE ON THE CAR SO THE ENGINE LIGHT WOULD STAY OFF
ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. .....CAR DIES, PUT IT IN PARK AND RESTART IT, ENGINE LIGHT ON, CAR MOVES WITH SHUDDER. I AM BEING TOLD IT IS NOT A SENSOR BUT SOMETHING IN THE CAR'S COMPUTER. FEARFUL CAR WILL DIE IN TRAFFIC AND CREATE ACCIDENT OR LEAVE MY GRANDDAUGHTER STRANDED. OTHER OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING SAME ISSUE WITH NO RESOLUTION FROM DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENTS PER INTERNET SITES/SEARCHES
I HAVE A 2012 CHEVY EQUINOX THAT I HAVE OWNED SINCE AUG. 2015. THE CAR USES EXCESSIVE OIL, TWO OR MORE QUARTS BETWEEN OIL CHANGES ON MY FOUR CYLINDER ENGINE. A WEB SEARCH FOUND THIS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. CHEVY CAME UP WITH THE IDEA THAT THIS WAS A NORMAL CONDITION, BUT ANY BACK YARD MECHANIC KNOWS DIFFERENT. AFTER ALL THE COMPLAINTS CHEVY FINALLY ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON EXCESSIVE OIL USE. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHO SAID I NEEDED AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST WHICH OF COURSE IS NOT REIMBURSED. I PURCHASE INSURANCE TOTAL LOST VEHICLES AND REPAIR THEM. I HAVE BEEN DRIVER THIS CAR FOR 2 YEAR. CAR HAS 60000 MILES. CHEVY STILL HAS CAR LISTED AS SALVAGE WITH WARRANTY VOID IN THEIR COMPUTER. NO DEALERSHIP WILL TOUCH IT. I AM ON MY 4TH CALL TO CHEVY AND THEY DO NOT RESPOND. CAR WILL GO LOW ON OIL TO THE POINT THE ENGINE BANGS WITH NO LOW OIL INDICATION. TSB ISSUE WILL NOT DO REPAIR.

THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WIPER TRANSMISSION FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 114,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE RATTLED AND MADE A HOST OF NOISES, WHICH INDICATED THAT THERE WAS NO OIL IN THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT TWO QUARTS OF OIL WERE PLACED IN THE VEHICLE, BUT IT PREMATURELY DISSIPATED BEFORE THE INTENDED MILEAGE MARK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT OIL WAS ADDED TO THE VEHICLE THREE TIMES IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS AN OIL CONSUMPTION FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED, BUT THE CONTACT MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH IN THE RAIN, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED WORKING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO COAST THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WAITED FOR THE RAIN TO STOP. ONCE THE CONTACT CONTINUED DRIVING, SHE HAD TO STOP FIVE TIMES DUE TO THE WIPER FAILURE BEFORE DRIVING TO A DEALER. IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE WIPER TRANSMISSION FAILED AND NEEDED TO REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,697. UPDATED 08/09/17*LJ *CN
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILED AND THE CONTACT HAD TO USE FORCE TO CONTROL THE STEERING. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER AND HAD IT TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS AN OIL LEAK, THE REAR MAIN SEAL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AND THE PVC VALVE NEEDED TO BE CLEANED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 181,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS SCHEDULED TO BE DIAGNOSED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR THE LEAKING. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THERE WAS A MILDEW ODOR IN THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER PROVIDED REFERENCE NUMBER: 8-2934661496. THE CONTACT INQUIRED AS TO WHY A RECALL WAS NOT ISSUED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT NHTSA ISSUES RECALLS AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,500.
ON APRIL, 13 2017, MY WIFE WAS EXITING THE HIGHWAY ON THE WAY HOME FROM WORK. THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY SLOWED AND SHUT DOWN NEARLY CAUSING HER TO BE RUN OVER BY A SEMI-TRACTOR BEHIND HER. BECAUSE THE CAR COULD NOT BE RE-STARTED, I HAD IT TOWED TO MY USUAL MECHANIC. HIS DIAGNOSIS SHOWED IT HAD A TIMING CHAIN FAILURE WHICH TORE UP THE UPPER END OF THE MOTOR. IN HIS EXPERIENCE SUCH DAMAGE WAS THE RESULT OF OIL ISSUES. THIS CAME AS A GREAT SHOCK TO MEASURE I REGULARLY CHANGE THE OIL EVERY 3000 MILES. I WENT HOME THAT NIGHT AND BEGAN TO RESEARCH THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS NOT A RARE OCCURRENCE WITH THIS MOTOR. I WOULD HAVE TO ADD FROM 1-3 QUARTS OF OIL BETWEEN CHANGES BUT BECAUSE THERE WERE NO BULLETINS OR RECALLS I WAS TOLD I WOULD JUST HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT. SO I GUESS I NEED TO KNOW HOW MANY OF THESE VEHICLES HAVE TO DIE IN TRAFFIC OR PEOPLE HAVE TO DIE OR BE INJURED BEFORE SOMEONE TAKES NOTICE. I WILL HAVE TO REPLACE MY MOTOR (OVER $5000) AND GM KNOWS THESE PROBLEMS EXIST. IT WAS JUST A MATTER OF TIME. AND TO ADD INSULT TO INJURY, GM EXPECTS ME TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THEIR FACILITY AT MY EXPENSE SO THEY CAN CONFIRM THE DIAGNOSIS. IF THE DIAGNOSIS IS CONFIRMED, THEN I'LL HAVE TO TOW IT BACK TO MY GUY SO HE CAN FIX IT. ANOTHER $200 BUCKS. ONCE AGAIN, DOESN'T ANYONE MONITOR THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS STUFF? PEOPLE GET SO FRUSTRATED WHEN DEALING WITH LARGE CORPORATIONS, THEY HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO SHARE THEIR STORIES WITH INDEPENDENT SOURCES. AND GM SURELY WON'T INCUR ADDITIONAL EXPENSES WITHOUT GOVERNMENT SCRUTINY. WE'VE LEARNED THAT THE HARD WAY. I JUST WANT THEM TO DO THE RIGHT THING. ADMIT IT WAS A PROBLEM-PLAGUED MOTOR AND FIX IT. I HAVE 64,633 MILES ON THE CAR THE ENGINE STARTED TO KNOCK WHEN STARTING. THE DEALER VERIFIED NOISE ON START UP AND CONSTANT NOISE WIHILE IDLING AND FOUND NOISE FROM BALANCE SHAFT CHAIN AND CAN GEARS..DEALER REPLACED THE BALANCE SHAFT CHAIN, BALANCE SHAFT CHAIN ACTUATORS, NECESSARY GASKETS, SEALS, AND BOLTS. ALSO BECAUSE OF THIS HAD TO GET A TRANSMISSION FLUID WITH TOTAL FLUID EXCHANGE AND TRANSMISSION FLUID CONDITIONER.. I SEE MANY COMPLAINTS ON HERE FOR THIS SAME ISSUE AND I WOULD THINK THAT CHEVY COULD MAKE A MORE DEPENDABLE, RELIABLE VEHICLE THAN THIS OR BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE REPAIRS. I HAVE HAD A GM CAR FOR MANY YEARS BUT BELIEVE THAT IT MAY BE TIME TO TRADE THIS ONE IN AND TRY A DIFFERENT BETTER MADE TO LAST BRAND. I WOULD NOT EXPECT ANY ENGINE DAMAGE OR MAJOR ISSUES LIKE THIS WITH SO FEW MILES. I AM SO GLAD I TOOK THIS IN TO BE CHECK OUT I WOULD HATE TO BE DRIVING AS OTHERS STATED THEY WERE AND HAVE MY CAR JUST STOP AND PUT MY LIFE AT RISK.
CAR IDLES ROUGH WHEN STOPPED JERKS DURING ACCELERATION THEN STALLS THERE ARE NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS ON.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. WHILE THE CONTACT'S DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING 55 MPH, THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDSHIELD WIPER BECAME LOOSE AND FAILED TO FUNCTION. THE CONTACT DIAGNOSED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WIPER TRANSMISSION LINKAGE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PROVIDE A TEMPORARY REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT PERMANENTLY REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
AT TIMES IT SEEMS LIKE THE TRANSMISSION DOESN'T SHIFT PROPERLY WHEN STARTING TO ACCELERATE. IT'S AS IF IT'S NOT SURE WHAT GEAR TO GO INTO. CURRENTLY I HAVE AN ENGINE LIGHT ON AND IT STALLS FREQUENTLY. IF I SLOW DOWN OR START TO ACCELERATE IT WILL STALL. I'M AFRAID I'M GOING TO GET REAR ENDED BY SOMEONE! IT ALSO BLOWS OUT WHITE SMOKE FROM THE EXHAUST. I SEEM TO BE ADDING OIL MORE OFTEN THAN I SHOULD.
I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WHERE I REAR ENDED A STOPPED VEHICLE. MY CRUISE WAS SET AT 57 MPH AND I DID NOT APPLY BRAKES. BECAUSE CRUISE WAS SET, I HIT ONCE, BOUNCED BACK AND HIT AGAIN. MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AT ALL. THE VEHICLE HAS EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE FRAME BUT NO AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT.
MY CAR SHUT DOWN WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON.. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. I AM HAVING IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP TOMORROW. DRIVING MY CAR HOME, STARTED LOSING POWER. PULLED OVER AND HAD IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC. FOUND OUT MY TIMING CHAIN WENT AND RUINED MY ENGINE. I HAVE 75000 MILES ON IT AND HAVE MAINTAINED THE OIL CHANGES IN IT REGULARLY.
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION LEADS TO CHUGGING, DYING & BLOWING CODES. YOU HAVE TO CHECK THE OIL AT EVERY FILL UP OR THE ACTUATORS & THE SELENOID FAIL WHICH THEN RETARDS THE TIMING & TILTS THE CAM SHAFT. I WAS DRIVING HOME WHEN I FELT IT POWER DOWN & ALMOST STALL OUT. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS VIA GOOGLE ON THIS. THIS IS THE 3RD TIME IN 14 MONTHS THAT MINE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP. THEY NEED TO FIX THE PROBLEM NOT JUST BANDAIDE IT. IT HAS COST ME WAY TO MUCH MONEY & THIS IS A ROAD HAZARD SINCE YOU NEVER NOW WHEN IT IS JUST GOING TO LOSE POWER.
DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY DURING A RAIN STORM MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS QUIT WORKING. I HAD TO PULL OFF THE NEXT EXIT AND WAIT FOR THE RAIN TO STOP SO I COULD CLEARLY SEE. THE DEALER SAID THAT THE WIPER TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE IS SOME KIND OF RECALL BUT IT DID NOT INVOLVE MY VIN NUMBER. CAR HAS 90,000 MILES.
WHILE TOWING 4 WHEELS DOWN BEHIND MOTOR HOME...TRAVELING NORTH BOUND ON I-75 IN TENNESSEE WITHIN 100 MILES OF THE TENNESSEE GEORGIA BORDER I HIT A VERY ROUGH PATCH OF THE INTERSTATE GOING 64 MPH. MY 2012 4 CYLINDER CHEVROLET EQUINOX STARTED TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE MY MOTORHOME, WHEN I GLANCED AT MY REARVIEW MONITOR THE STEERING WHEEL ON THE CAR WAS WHIPPING BACK AND FORTH. FORCING ME TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY STOP ON THE OUTSIDE BERM, THIS WAS AROUND 3:00 AM THERE WAS LITTLE TRAFFIC AT THE TIME, SO I WAS LUCKY. WHEN MY SPEED DROPPED TO 5 TO 10 MPH IT STOPPED AND IT NEVER HAPPENED AGAIN. AFTER SOME THOUGHT THIS WAS THE 2ND TIME THIS HAPPENED AND AROUND THE PART OF I-75 NORTH BOUND ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000.
TIMING CHAIN FAILURES AT A RELATIVELY LOW MILEAGE, BETWEEN 50000 TO 60000 MILES WHICH IS UNHEARD OF , IT MAKES THE VEHICLE STALL , OURS DID IN THE BUSIEST PART OF WICHITA FALL TX . WHICH IS VERY DANGEROUS , AND IM BEING TOLD THIS IS A COMMON FAILURE ON THESE VEHICLES , TIMING CHAINS SHOULD LAST A WHOLE LOT LONGER THAN THAT AND ITS GOING TO GET SOMEONE KILLED , IVE ASKED CHEVORLET IF THE NEW PARTS ARE AN UPGRADE TO FIX THE PROBLEM BUT NO ONE CAN GIVE ME AN ANSWER SO IM PROBABLY GOING TO GET RID OF THE CAR WHICH WE LOVE EXCEPT FOR THAT ISSUE.
WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED WORKING WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY DURING WIND AND RAIN STORM. THE MECHANISM THAT MOVES THE WIPER ARMS POPPED OFF THE BALL JOINT/SOCKET ON THE WIPER TRANSMISSION. IT WAS REPAIRED, BUT NOW I HAVE LOST CONFIDENCE IN DRIVING THE CAR IN THE RAIN. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO PULL RIGHT ONTO THE SHOULDER, BUT IF I WAS ON A ROAD WITHOUT A SHOULDER OR IN A MIDDLE LANE IN TRAFFIC, IT COULD EASILY HAVE RESULTED IN A COLLISION.
I HAD DRIVEN MY CAR TO WORK WITHOUT A PROBLEM WHICH IS ABOUT 2 MILES FROM MY HOUSE. AFTER WORK I WENT TO THE STORE AGAIN WITH NO PROBLEM. WHEN I BACKED OUT OF THE PARKING SPACE MY CAR STALLED. I PUT IT IN PARK AND RESTARTED IT, BUT ONCE I PUT IT IN REVERSE AGAIN IT SHOOK, AND STALLED. I RESTARTED IT AGAIN AND GAVE IT A LITTLE MORE GAS, THEN PUT IT IN GEAR TO BACK UP. NOW THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. IT WASN'T ON BEFORE ALL THE STALLING. I TOOK THE CAR HOME AND PARKED IT THINKING IT MAY BE BAD GAS. A WEEK WENT BY WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS OFF THE NEXT MORNING WHEN I STARTED THE CAR. . I CAME TO A LIGHT AND STOPPED, WAITING FOR THE SIGNAL TO CHANGE. WHEN THE LIGHT CHANGED I STARTED TO ACCELERATE AND THE CAR STARTED JERKING A LITTLE AND STALLED.THIS IS A BUSY INTERSECTION AND I DIDN'T WANT TO BE STUCK IN ONCOMING TRAFFI AS I WAS IN THE LEFT TURN LANE. I PUT IT IN PARK AND RESTARTED IT AGAIN. AGAIN IT STALLED. I RESTARTED IT GIVING IT MORE ACCELERATION THEN PUTTING IT IN DRIVE..I PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AND SHUT IT OFF. AFTER A FEW MINUTES I STARTED IT AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS NOW ON. THE CAR STALLED 4 MORE TIMES BEFORE I LEFT THE PARKING LOT. I DROVE IT HOME AND PARKED IT. I HAVE READ SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS THAT SOUND EXACTLY LIKE MINE. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR KNOWING IT CAN STALL AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT PUTTING ME, MY FAMILY,AND OTHER TRAVELERS AT RISK. SO FAR I HAVE NOT BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY WITH THIS ISSUE. I HAD IT CHECKED AND THE CODE CAME BACK AS P0010. THIS APPEARS TO BE A SIMILAR PROBLEM AS THE 2011 EQUINOX HAD AND IT WAS RECALLED. I STRONGLY FEEL GM SHOULD ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM BEFORE PEOPLE ARE KILLED.
THIS IS MY SECOND TIME IN LESS THAN 2 YEARS HAVING TO HAVE REPAIRS MADE TO THIS VEHICLE FOR THE CAMSHAFT ACULATOR AND SOLENOID VALVE. ONCE AGAIN IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING ON THE ROAD THE CAR SHUT OFF! TRIED GETTING IT TO GO BY PUTTING IT IN PARK AND AS I PUT IT BACK IN DRIVE AND ATTEMPTED TO PRESS THE GAS IT SHUT OFF AGAIN! I WAS NEARLY HIT BY A CAR IN THE MIST OF ALL THIS. SOMETHING HAS GOT TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS MALFUNCTION WITHIN THIS VEHICLE!!! I'VE SEEN SO MANY COMMENTS BY PEOPLE SAY THE SAME THING HAS HAPPENED TO THEM IN THIS 2012 CHEVY EQUINOX!! CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. CAR HAD BEEN IDLING ROUGH AND WOULD ALMOST STALL OUT AT RED LIGHTS. ALSO MADE A TICKING NOISE WHEN PRESSING ON THE ACCELERATOR AT ABOUT 20-25 MPH. I TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC AND HE FOUND THE OIL LEVEL LOW. PERFORMED AN OIL CHANGE AND CLEARED THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE. HE ALSO GAVE ME INFORMATION PERTAINING TO THIS EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION BULLETIN. NOW I WILL HAVE TO CHECK MY OIL LEVEL AND MAKE SURE TO GET AN OIL CHANGE EVERY 3000 MILES.
MY 2012 EQUINOX BEGAN BURNING EXCESSIVE OIL. I HAD TO ADD OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED THE EXACT SAME ISSUES AS UNDER THE GM CUSTOMER SATISFACTION #12312A WHICH INITIALLY ONLY COVERED THE 2010 TO 2011 EQUINOX. THIS SAME ISSUE IS ALSO COVERED UNDER TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN #13-06-01-003H. BASED ON THIS ISSUE, MY VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET STARTED SO SPUTTER WHILE DRIVING AND FINALLY SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING. I WAS NOT ABLE TO GET A DEALERSHIP APPOINTMENT AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO FIRESTONE COMPLETE AUTO CARE. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE LOW OIL LIKELY CAUSED THE TIMING CHAIN TO JUMP AND RECOMMEND I SHOULD SEE THE DEALERSHIP FOR OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE AS THIS WAS A WELL KNOWN ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES. I WAS ABLE TO GET MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE VEHICLE HAS 85K MILES AND THE WARRANTY RAN OUT 5 MONTHS AGO. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE ISSUE WAS THE TIMING CHAIN AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED FOR $1,600.00. SIMILAR ISSUE TO THE 2010 AND 2011 CHEVY EQUINOX WHICH IS BEING REPLACED. WAS ALSO TOLD THE OIL CONSUMPTION WOULD HAVE TO BE PERFORMED AFTER THE TIMING CHAIN FIX AND WOULD ALSO BE AT MY EXPENSE. THERE ARE SIGNIFICANT ISSUES FOR THIS VEHICLE AND GM IS NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY. THE WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED FOR THE 2010 AND 2011 VEHICLES AS THEY SHOULD HAVE BUT THE ISSUE IS ALSO AFFECTING THE 2012 AND 2013 AS GM HAS ISSUED SERVICE BULLETINS FOR THEM BUT ARE NOT FIXING A KNOWN ISSUE. THIS ISSUE IS DANGEROUS TO CUSTOMERS DRIVING AS THE CAR CAN COMPLETELY SHUTDOWN WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS A DANGEROUS ISSUE FOR VEHICLE OWNERS AND AN EXPENSIVE ONE FOR CUSTOMERS FROM WHICH GM IS AVOIDING TAKING RESPONSIBILITY.
CONSUMES TOO MUCH OIL. CAMSHAFT ISSUES. THE CAR HAS ISSUES PROPERLY SWITCHING GEARS IN AUTOMATIC AND THERE IS A DELAY OR SHAKING/JUTTER AT TIMES. EVEN WHEN THE CAR IS IDLE IS HAS A STRANGE SOUND TO IT. CAR ALSO HAS ISSUE WITH ACCELERATING. I WILL PUSH THE GAS DOWN AND IT DOESN'T SWITCH GEARS FAST ENOUGH. THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME IN EVERYDAY CITY AND RURAL DRIVING.
BOUGHT THE VEHICLE AT 40K MILES IN 2013. SINCE OWNING IT OCCASIONALLY HAD A ROUGH IDLE WHEN INCLINED ON THE OFF-RAMP OF A HIGHWAY. IT WAS A CROSS BETWEEN AND SLIGHT SHUTTER AND A JERK FORWARD LIKE THE HILL ASSIST FEATURE DIDN'T WANT TO HOLD TRUE. AS THE VEHICLE GOT CLOSER TO 100K MILES THE IDLE WAS BECOMING MORE PRONOUNCED AND STARTED SPUTTERING IN DRIVE-THRUS AND STOP SIGNS UNTIL ONE DAY IT SHUT OFF. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE HAD ISSUES BACKING UP WITHOUT SHUTTING OFF. TOOK INTO A MECHANIC THE NEXT DAY AND THEY CLAIMED IT WAS VERY LOW ON OIL (EVEN THOUGH I WAS STILL IN MY WINDOW) AND SOME SENSORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WHICH WERE VERY EXPENSIVE. VEHICLE WAS OK FOR A FEW WEEKS AND NOW IT IS STARTING THE SAME ACTIVITY AGAIN. UNTIL I CAN TAKE IT AGAIN TO GET CHECKED OUT I HAVE TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL WHILE AT STOP SIGNS AND OFF-RAMPS.
AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT SYSTEM - AIRBAG MESSAGE CAME ON CAR WAS PARKED AND WHEN I TURNED THE CAR ON HUSBAND MESSAGE SHOWS UP AND WILL NOT GO AWAY. . FOR NO REASON. THE FRONT BUMPER POPS OUT ALSO, FOR NO REASON AND IMTHE PLASTIC PARTS THAT HOLD IT IN PLACE ARE BROKEN AND DON'T KEEP THE BUMPER IN PLACE. AND MY CAR MAKES A WEIRD RATTLING NOISE . AND IT STOPPED PICK UP UP SPEED WHEN I TURN MY AC ON .BUT I DON'T KNOW WHY IT WON'T PICK UP SPEED . I DIDN'T KNOW I HAD A WARRANTY AT THE TIME SO WHEN I CALLED HEY SAID THEY WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED AND THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR . THE AC STARTED GOING OUT 2 AND A HALF YEARS AFTER I BOUGHT IT . THE CAR WILL RANDOMLY JUMP , IT FEELS LIKE SOMEONE HIT MY VEHICLE BUT IT WILL JUMP JUMP WHEN I'M WAITING AT A RED LIGHT AND I THINK THE COMPRESSOR STOPPED WORKING
I PURCHASED THIS PRE-OWNED EQUINOX SEPTEMBER 30. IN DECEMBER I FOUND OUT FROM MY MECHANIC THAT THERE IS AN OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM. IT'S NOT LEAKING OIL, IT'S USING OIL. HE PRINTED OUT DOCUMENTATION THAT SHOWS 2012 EQUINOX VEHICLES HAVE THIS OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM DUE TO FAULTY PISTON AND PISTON RING INSTALLATION. I BROUGHT IT TO MY LOCAL GMC/CHEVY DEALER AND HE SAID THERE IS NOTHING THAT GMC WILL DO FOR ME AND THAT IT WOULD BE $3,000 TO FIX. I ASKED FOR AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST BUT HE DIDN'T FOLLOW THROUGH TO SCHEDULE IT. THE VEHICLE HAD A POWER TRAIN WARRANTY THAT EXPIRED THIS LAST OCTOBER. BECAUSE OF THAT IT WON'T BE REPAIRED AT NO COST TO ME. BECAUSE THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE THAT THIS VEHICLE ENGINE WAS PUT TOGETHER INCORRECTLY, THERE IS NO WAY THAT I SHOULD PAY FOR THE REPAIR. OVER TIME THIS WILL CAUSE IRREPARABLE DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE, LEAVING ME WITH MULTIPLE EXPENSIVE UPKEEP AND THE INABILITY TO SELL. IT JUST TURNED TO 82,000 MILES. MY FIRST AMERICAN BOUGHT CAR AFTER OWNING FOREIGN CARS FOR DECADES. WANTED TO BE PATRIOTIC. I WON'T HAVE THAT MISJUDGMENT AGAIN. I FELT STUCK AT FIRST BUT THEN REALIZED THAT THIS IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE CONCLUSION. GMC NEEDS TO STAND BEHIND WHAT THEY HAVE BUILT.

THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.

I HAD TO PAY 1500 TO REPAIR. CAUSED BY EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION BUT MY VEHICLE IS EXCLUDED FROM THIS SERVICE BULLETIN BECAUSE OF THE VIN NUMBER. SAME ISSUE AS OTHER 2012 CHEVY EQUINOX USERS. APRIL 2017 - CRANKSHAFT SEAL GOES OUT - LEAKING OIL AGAIN - $2200 TO REPAIR. TOLD BY LAFONTAINE DEALERSHIP IN DEXTER, MI THAT IT WAS UNRELATED TO REAR MAIN OIL SEAL GOING OUT. MAY 2017 - RECIEVE SERVICE BULLETIN IN MAIL #16118 FOR EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. HAD JUST GOTTEN OIL CHANGED WITH APRIL 2017 REPAIRS SO HELD ON TO THIS JUST IN CASE. AUGUST/SEP 2017 - AT LIGHT IN TOWN CAR STARTS TO STALL OUT. PULL OVER IMMEDIATELY AT THE AUTOZONE AND THERE IS NO OIL. ALL GONE. TAKE TO DEALERSHIP. INITIATE EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. FIRST 1000 MILES A LITTLE LOW, TOLD TO COME BACK AGAIN IN 1000 MILES. I FILED A COMPLAINT (2ND) WITH CHEVY ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND REQUEST IT BE ESCALATED TO SUPERVISOR OR ANOTHER LEVEL. OCTOBER 2017 - CAR FAILS EXCESSIVE OIL TEST (USING TOO MUCH OIL!!) GETS GASKETS REPLACED. BAND-AID FIX. OCTOBER/NOVEMBER - GM TELLS ME THEY WON'T REIMBURSE ME FOR ANYTHING. CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS RUDE AND WOULDN'T EVEN ESCALATE TO THE NEXT SUPERVISOR. NOVEMBER 2017 - I CONTACT VIJAY IYER WHO IS IN A LEADERSHIP POSITION FOR GM OUT OF DETROIT GLOBAL CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE DIRECTOR SEARCHING FOR HELP FROM SOMEONE. HE TRIES TO HELP BUT FORWARDS EVERYTHING OVER TO EXECUTIVE CUSTOMER SERVIE DEPARTMENT. THEY ARE JUST AS BAD AS THE MID-LEVEL DEPARTMENT. REFUSE TO REIMBURSE. COMPLAINTS FILED WITH NHTSA AND FTC!! CAR HAD AN OIL CHANGE AND NEW TIRES PUT ON AT BELLE TIRE IN GRAND BLANC MI. THREE DAYS LATER MY DAUGHTER (RACHELLE SLY) WAS AT A RED LIGHT AND THE CAR JUST STOPPED. BEING CLOSE TO A MIDAS MUFFLER SHE MANAGED TO GET IT TO RESTART AND GO THERE (LESS THAN 500 FEET). THEY PUT THE CAR UP IN THE AIR AND SAID THERE WAS OIL ALL OVER THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR. WE DECIDED TO HAVE IT TOWED BACK TO BELLE TIRE SINCE THEY CHANGED THE OIL ORIGINALLY. THEY SAID IT HAD TO BE TOWED TO AL SERRA GRAND BLANC MI. BY THAT TIME THE CAR WOULDN'T EVEN START.. AL SERRA ORIGINALLY SAID IT WAS A BAD REAR SEAL. EVERYTHING ESCALATED TO NEEDING A FULL NEW ENGINE. THERE WAS A BULLETIN (NO.14882) ON THE 2012 EQUINOX LTZ BUT WHEN WE PUT HER VIN IN IT DID NOT COME UP. SHE HAD APPROX 140,000 MILES AT THE TIME OF THIS INCIDENT BUT HAD A PREVIOUS COMPLAINT WHEN SHE WAS WITHIN THE REQUIRED MILEAGE OF 120,000 OR 10 YEARS PER THE BULLETIN NO:14882. AT THAT TIME IT WAS DOCUMENTED OF THE VERY COMPLAINTS. SHE GETS ALL MAINTENANCE/OIL CHANGES ETC.IT IS DANGEROUS THAT THIS CONDITION WAS NOT BROUGHT TO HER ATTENTION, IF YOU GOOGLE THE CONDITION IT IS A WELL DOCUMENTED PROBLEM THAT GM SHOULD FIX AND OR NOTIFY PEOPLE OF, NOW IN ADDITION TO SPENDING OVER $20,000.00 0N THIS CAR IT COST $5,444.00 TO GET A NEW ENGINE!
