2007 CHEVROLET HHR. CONSUMER STATES BRAKES LOCKED AND THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP DURING RAINY CONDITIONS. *TGW
MY 2007 CHEVROLET HHR IS EXPERIENCING ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING PROBLEMS IN WHICH IT WILL STOP WORKING CAUSING IT TO STEER HARD ALL OF A SUDDEN WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. I HAVE READ THAT SIMILAR PROBLEMS ON THE CHEVROLET COBALT THAT HAD BEEN ISSUED A RECALL. THE HHR IS REPORTED TO HAVING THE SAME CHASSIS AND PARTS. *TR
A 2007 HHR I HAVE TAKEN IT BACK TO DEALER FROM THE BEGINNING I HAVE HAD THE CAR. THEY HAVE REPLACE A STEERING WITH SHAFT, COLUMN KIT TWICE. IT HAS SMOKED IN THE STEERING WHEEL ONCE BEFORE. I JUST TOOK IT BACK AGAIN TO BE CHECKED THAT SAID THEY HERE THE NOISE BUT NOT ENOUGH TO KNOW WHAT IT IS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. WHILE TRAVELING 40 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY IN RAINY WEATHER CONDITIONS THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND THE VEHICLE SPUN OUT. THE POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON BEFORE THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED ON THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT HIS VIN WAS NOT A PART OF RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER 10V073000, ELECTRONIC POWER ASSIST MODULE. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED BECAUSE THE HHR AND THE COBALT USE THE EXACT SAME PARTS. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 37000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 2 MPH IN REVERSE AND THE POWER STEERING FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE POWER STEERING MALFUNCTION WAS A PERMANENT LOSS. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WHICH REQUIRED FORCE BEING APPLIED TO THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 34,600.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH AND ATTEMPTING A LEFT TURN, THE POWER STEERING SEIZED AND THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A CEMENT BARRIER. THE POLICE WERE CONTACTED AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED HER THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS LATER CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE RECURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION AND THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO STOP AND RESTART THE VEHICLE IN ORDER FOR THE FAILURE TO RESET. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED WITH THE POTENTIAL OF THE FAILURE CAUSING FUTURE CRASHES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 85,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
CHEVROLET HHR-2007 WITH 57,000 MILES - THE INSIDE DOOR LATCH ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE BROKE. I FOUND OUT THAT THE HINGE ON THE LATCH IS PLASTIC AND TO REPAIR IT I HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE DOOR PANEL . I AM PARTIALLY DISABLED AND RECOVERING FROM KNEE REPLACEMENT. THIS IS A SEVERE DESIGN PROBLEM. MANY PEOPLE WHO BUY THIS CAR PURCHASE IT BECAUSE IT IS EASY TO GET IN IF YOU HAVE AMBULATORY PROBLEMS. PLEASE HELP ME AND OTHER CONSUMERS. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 HHR. SINCE NEW IT HAS HAD FRONT END PROBLEMS. THE SWAYBAR BUSHINGS ARE DEFECTIVE AND CLUCK IN COLD WEATHER. REPLACING THEM DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. (MY DEALER HAS REPLACED THEM AT LEAST ONCE.) THE STRUTS MAKE NOISE TOO IN COLD WEATHER, THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT HAS TO BE REPLACED EVERY 10000 MILES BECAUSE IT STARTS BINDING AND CLUNKING. (REPLACED ON MY CAR 3 TIMES NOW) HOWEVER MY BIGGEST (SAFETY) CONCERN IS THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING. ALL OTHER GM CARS WITH THE SAME SYSTEM HAVE BEEN RECALLED AND ALOT OF HHR STEERING SYSTEMS ARE FAILING. MINE HAS NOT YET FAILED, BUT IS DOES HAVE A LOUD RATTLE (MY RESEARCH TELLS ME THAT IT IS THE GEAR ON THE MOTOR) THAT MY DEALER "CANNOT DUPLICATE" I HAVE ONLY 31000 MILES ON IT NOW AND WORRY ABOUT THE POWER ASSIST FAILING AT THE WORST POSSIBLE MOMENT WHEN MY WIFE IS DRIVING WITH OUR KIDS. I UNDERSTAND THAT I WON'T LOSE ALL STEERING, JUST POWER ASSIST, HOWEVER IF YOU ARE NOT EXPECTING A SUDDEN INCREASE IN STEERING RESISTANCE, THE WHEEL COULD JERK OUT OF YOUR HAND AND YOU COULD EASILY TAKE OUT SOMEONE ON A SIDEWALK. GM, PLEASE JUST RECALL THE HHR TOO AND REPLACE MY STEERING COLUMN BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE FRONT PASSENGER ATTEMPTED TO GET OUT AND THE DOOR HANDLE BROKE OFF. A FEW MONTHS LATER, THE DRIVER SIDE HANDLE BROKE OFF AS WELL. THE CONTACT HAD TO ROLL THE WINDOWS DOWN TO USE THE OUTSIDE LATCH TO GET OUT. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 56,947.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT RATTLING NOISES COULD BE HEARD COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO DIFFICULT TO STEER. IT WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE STEERING COLUMN WAS REPAIRED. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN REPAIRED FOR THIS FAILURE. I BOUGHT A 2007 CHEVY HHR NEW AT THE END OF 2006 AND IT NOW HAS 80,000 MILES AND I AM HAVING THE ROTORS DONE FOR THE 5TH TIME, I JUST HAD IT DONE IN MARCH IT HAS ONLY BEEN 10,000 MILES, THIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM. I RESEARCHED THE INTERNET AND I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH THE HHR. IT IS AMAZING THAT IT CONTINUES TO GO ON AND NO ONE DOES ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I OWE MORE THAN WHAT THE CAR IS WORTH SO I CANNOT GET RID OF IT BUT IN THE FUTURE I WILL NOT BUY A CHEVY I AM SWITCHING TO HONDA. *TR

WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, A CHIME SOUNDED INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED, FOLLOWED BY THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD; THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED. THE WARNING LIGHT AND POWER STEERING FUNCTIONED NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE RESUMED AND THE FAILURE RECURRED REPEATEDLY. THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR NUMEROUS TIMES WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY INFORMED THAT THE POWER STEERING MOTOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 119,000.
IN AUG OF 2010 I REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH CYLINDER. THE KEY WAS STUCK IN THE IGNITION AND I COULD NOT REMOVE IT WITHOUT REPLACING . IN JAN 2012 POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND KEY IN IGNITION AGAIN I TOOK TO GM DEALER ON A RECALL NOTICE, BUT APPARENTLY NOT MY VIN SO I HAD TO PAY $320.00 OUT OF POCKET TO FIX. 4-2014 MY POWER STEERING HAS BEEN OUT MULTIPLE TIMES USUALLY CAN REPAIR BY REPLACING THE FUSE. BUT THIS TIME I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 4 MONTHS WITHOUT POWER STEERING AND REPLACING FUSE DOES NOT FIX. WAITING ON PARTS FOR RECALL BUT NONE AVAILABLE YET. ALSO MY INSIDE PASSENGER DOOR HANDLE BROKE 1 YR AGO AND CANNOT OPEN DOOR FROM THE INSIDE . I HAVE KNOW THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED IN AT LEAST 4 OTHER HHR OWNERS CARS ALSO . *JS
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIANS REPLACED THE STEERING COLUMN. THE FAILURE OCCURRED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

I HAVE A 2007 CHEVY HHR AND STARTING HAVING PROBLEMS WITH TRYING TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK. AT FIRST IT WAS EVERY SO OFTEN IT HAPPENED ALL THE TIME. WHILE I WAS ON VACATION MY FRIEND TOOK THE CAR TO A CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE GEAR SHIFT HAD TO BE REPLACED IT COST ME 497.99. IN THE MEAN TIME I WENT ON LINE AND FOUND THAT 15,000 OTHER OWNERS OF HHR'S HAD THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM. I WENT TO GM TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL AND THEY SAID NO. I THEN ASKED IF THEY WOULD DO SOMETHING TO HELP ME WITH THIS HUGE BILL AND AFTER GETTING THE RUN AROUND FOR A MONTH I WAS TOLD BY LARRY AT GM 866-790-5700 EXT 21217 THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO TO HELP. SO NOW I AM WRITING TO YOU AND I WILL ALSO WRITE THE TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU TOO AND SEE IF THERE IS ANY HELP FOR ME AT ALL. 2007 CHEVY HHR INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE BROKE WHEN TRYING TO OPEN THE DOOR. NO LONGER CAN I EXIT THE VEHICLE WITHOUT ROLLING DOWN THE WINDOW AND OPENING THE DOOR FROM THE EXTERIOR HANDLE. UNABLE TO REPLACE JUST THE HANDLE, THE ONLY WAY TO FIX THE PIECE OF PLASTIC THAT IS HOLDING THE DOOR HANDLE TOGETHER IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE DOOR PANEL. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE THAT A CHEAP PIECE OF PLASTIC IS CONTROLLING THE OPENING OF THE DOOR. WITH THIS PIECE BROKEN, I AM UNABLE TO EXIT IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT IF THE WINDOWS CAN'T BE ROLLED DOWN. *TR

THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 58,000.
2007 CHEVY HHR. AT APPROXIMATELY 4600 MILES MY STRUTS AND STRUT MOUNTS WENT OUT AND I HAD TO REPLACE THEM. ALSO THERE IS PRESSURE APPLIED TO THE REAR TRUNK OF MY CAR SUCH AS CLOSING THE TRUNK OR LEANING ON IT, IT CREATES A HUGE DENT. I HAVE HAD THE DENTS REMOVED ON 2 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS BUT I AM CONSTANTLY GETTING BIG DENTS AND IT IS TO COSTLY TO CONSTANTLY REPAIR. I DON'T THINK THIS IS NORMAL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THREE MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE IT WOULD NOT START. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY WHERE SHE WAS ADVISED THEY WERE UNABLE TO MAKE REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO A DIFFERENT REPAIR FACILITY WHERE THE MECHANIC ADVISED THE IGNITION WOULD NEED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. SHE WOULD ALSO NEED A NEW KEY THAT WOULD ALSO HAVE TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. ON HER DRIVE HOME, THE CONTACT SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING AND THERE WAS A LOUD POP. SHE WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO HER RESIDENCE AND WHEN INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, SHE FOUND THAT THE ENGINE FAN HAD BEEN TAMPERED WITH. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT BOTH THE FAN AND RADIATOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AT HER EXPENSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,100.
POWER STEERING IN MY 2007 CHEVY HHR QUIT SUDDENLY WHILE MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN. THE SUDDEN INCREASE IN STEERING FORCE CAUSED ME TO SWING WIDER IN THE TURN THAN PLANNED. IF THERE HAD BEEN A CAR NEXT TO ME IT WOULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. *TR

OWNERS HAVE BEEN BRINGING THEIR HHR'S TO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIPS WITH THIS PROBLEM SINCE 02/06/07. OUT OF 73 COMPLAINTS ON THE 2007 CHEVROLET HHR 19 COMPLAINTS, OR 26% OF THE COMPLAINTS ARE RELATED TO THE BRAKES AND ROTORS. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THE ROTORS THAT CHEVROLET IS USING ON THE VEHICLES, BEFORE SOMEONE GETS INJURED OR KILLED. MOST COMPLAINTS ARE AT LOW MILEAGE, AND ARE NEW VEHICLES. SOUNDS LIKE THERE IS SOME KIND OF DEFECT IN THE METAL THAT IS BEING USED TO MAKE THE ROTORS. I CHECKED TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS ON THE ROTORS, BUT IT DOESN'T EVEN SEEM THAT THE PROBLEM IS UNDER INVESTIGATION. I BROUGHT MY HHR TO A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP IN 2009 AND A MECHANIC TOOK MY HHR FOR A DRIVE BY HIMSELF, BUT SAID THAT HE COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEM. THIS TIME THE HHR WAS BROUGHT IN THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE SAME PROBLEM I REQUESTED THAT MY HUSBAND RIDE WITH THE MECHANIC, AND THE MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, AND SAID THAT HE FELT IT WAS THE ROTORS. THAT IS WHY I AM REPORTING THIS ISSUE. PERHAPS THE CHEVROLET DEALERS, OR OTHER HHR OWNERS HAVE NOT REPORTED THE PROBLEM TO THE RIGHT DIVISION OF GOVERNMENT. THANK YOU *TR
CHANGING LANES IN THE HIGHWAY ,IT WAS CRAZY,SCARY .I EMAILED CHEVY DIRECTLY THAN IT STOPPED SUDDENLY, THAN A YEAR LATER TWICE,THAN STOPPED,NOW AGAIN IT'S DOING IT. I WISH I COULD GET ANOTHER VEHICLE BUT CAN'T AFFORD IT.............. *TR
I CAME HOME AFTER RUNNING ERRANDS AND GOT OUT OF MY 2007 CHEVY HHR AND SHUT THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. 30 SECONDS AFTER THAT MY REAR WINDOW ON THE HATCHBACK COMPLETELY SHATTERED. IT WAS NOT A HOT DAY. THERE WAS GLASS ALL OVER THE INSIDE OF THE BACK OF MY CAR AND MY DRIVEWAY. I'M JUST GLAD MY 7 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS NOT IN THE BACK SEAT, FOR FEAR OF GETTING HIT BY A PIECE OF GLASS NOW I HAVE TO GET IT REPLACED AND ITS GOING TO COST ME MY DEDUCTIBLE ON MY INSURANCE OF 250.00. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT NO PARTICULAR SPEED THE VEHICLE LOST POWER STEERING WITHOUT WARNING AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS HARD TO TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED IN ORDER TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
WHEN PUTTING THE CAR IN PARK, THE KEY WOULD NOT REMOVE FROM THE IGNITION. ALSO, THE CAR COULD BE SHIFTED THROUGH THE GEARS WITHOUT PRESSING THE BUTTON ON THE SHIFTER. THERE IS A SAFETY ISSUE IN THAT THE GEAR SHIFT CAN BE BUMPED INTO AND OUT OF VARIOUS GEARS. AFTER OPENING THE CENTER CONSOLE, I DISCOVERED THAT THE PLASTIC PLUNGER THAT GOES DOWN THROUGH THE SHIFTER HAD BROKEN, AND IN THE PROCESS ALLOWED THE METAL PIN THAT CLOSES THE CONTACT WITH THE IGNITION TO COME LOOSE. THIS HAS OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 6 - 10 TIMES IN THE PAST 2 WEEKS, WITH INCREASING FREQUENCY. I CALLED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP, TERRY LABONTE CHEVY IN GREENSBORO, NC ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT I HAD PROBABLY SPILLED SOME LIQUID. *TR

THE POWER STEERING ON MY 2007 CHEVROLET HHR CONSISTENTLY GOES OUT, EVERY TIME I DRIVE. I HAVE TO TURN MY CAR OFF THEN RESTART IT, TO GET THE POWER STEERING TO KICK BACK IN, BUT THEN IT USUALLY JUST GOES OUT AMOUNT 5 MINS LATER. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING WITH DIFFICULTY IN STEERING THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR AT ANY GIVEN SPEED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED FOR THE MALFUNCTION. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 60,000.
HHR WAS BROUGHT IN ON FRIDAY 02/12 FOR RUBBING NOISE IN STEERING COLUMN. CAR WAS KEPT FOR 1 DAY TO REPAIR. I WAS TOLD "RATTLING" NOISE REPAIRED. I STATED IT WAS A RUBBING NOISE. TOLD TO BRING THE CAR IN WHEN IT WAS MAKING THE NOISE. CAR RETURNED TO POWER ON 02/18/10 WITH SAME RUBBING NOISE (SEE REPAIR ORDER 473237- NO SURVEY CARD GIVEN TO ME). SPENT 15 MINUTES WITH THE MECHANIC IN PARKING LOT WHILE CAR WAS MAKING THE RUBBING SOUND. IT WAS CLEARLY HEARD BY THE MECHANIC. CAR KEPT FOR ANOTHER DAY FOR REPAIR. WHEN I CALLED ON 02/19/10, I WAS TOLD BY MIKE THAT MARC WAS NOT IN AND THAT THE MECHANIC WORKED ON THE CAR ALL DAY, BUT COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE SOUND. I WAS TOLD HE EVEN DROVE THE CAR 25 MILES TO DUPLICATE AND YET MILEAGE IN/OUT ARE THE SAME ON INVOICE. PER THE MECHANIC, YOU CANNOT KEEP BRINGING THE CAR IN FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, THAT THEY (WHOEVER "THEY" ARE) WOULD START QUESTIONING THE WARRANTY. WITH 61,000 MILES ON MY 2007 CHEVY HHR, I AM HAVING TO REPLACE THE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS ONCE AGAIN. I HAVE HAD MANY CARS WITH DISC BRAKES AND HAVE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE THE ROTORS. THERE MUST BE A DESIGN FLAW IN THIS VEHICLE. *TR
2007 HHR LS - WHEN TRYING TO EXIT THE VEHICLE THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE BROKE. THUS MAKING THE ONLY WAY TO EXIT THE VEHICLE IS TO ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW AND ACCESS THE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE. IN THE EVENT OF A SERIOUS CRASH OR ACCIDENT THE DRIVER WOULD BE TRAPPED IN THE VEHICLE. GM'S FIX FOR THE BROKEN DOOR HANDLE IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE INTERIOR DOOR PANEL AT A COST OF $450. THE DEALERSHIP DOES NOT STOCK THIS ITEM AND IT HAS TO BE ORDERED WHICH COULD TAKE UP TO 2 WEEKS. GM'S POOR DESIGN OF THE DOOR HANDLE MECHANISM COULD LEAD TO AN TRAGIC EVENT AND IS ALSO A RIP OFF TO THE CONSUMERS WHO PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE. THIS DOOR HANDLE MECHANISM NEEDS TO BE REDESIGNED AND RECALLED BY GM BEFORE SOMEONE DOES BECOME TRAPPED AND KILLED. *TR

I BOUGHT A 2007 CHEVY HHR IN JAN 07 IN EL DORADO AR, I DROVE TO EL PASO TX WITHIN A MONTH OF BUYING IT, THE DAY AFTER ARRIVING I WAS ENTERING THE FREEWAY AND THE CAR STALLED (1000 MILES ON ODOMETER) AFTER 10 MINS I WAS ABLE TO RESTART. HAD NO OTHER ISSUES UNTIL MOVING TO GUYMON OK, IN NOV OF 08 ABS LIGHT CAME ON AND ENROUTE TO THE DEALER TO HAVE REPAIRED, IT STALLED AS I WAS APPROACHING A STOP SIGN, AND SAME AS 1ST TIME, AFTER 10 MINS OR SO IT RESTARTED, DEALER STATED IT WAS PROBABLY BAD GAS, DEALER ADDED A FUEL ADDITIVE AND RESET ABS (10801 MILES) ON FEB 24 2009 AS I WAS APPROACHING A STOP SIGN THE VEHICLE ONCE AGAIN DIED (17717 MILES), WAITED 10 MINS AND RESTARTED, DEALER STATED IT WAS CLOGGED INJECTORS AND CLEANED THEM. ON MAY 11TH, 2009 THE VEHICLE ONCE AGAIN STALLED WHEN APPROACHING A STOP SIGN(18136 MILES), AFTER 10 MINS RESTARTED. THE DEALER THIS TIME STATED IT WAS LOOSE FUSES, AND A LOOSE BATTERY CABLE, ALL WERE RETIGHTENED THE DEALER KEPT THE CAR FOR OBSERVATION FOR 16 DAYS, ON JULY 6TH THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE APPROACHING A STOP SIGN THE VEHICLE STALLED (19375 MILES) AND RESTARTED AFTER 10 MINS, THE DEALER STATED THAT IT WAS THE CAM SHAFT SENSOR, AND REPLACED IT. ON SEPT 17 2009, WHILE DRIVING DOWN A MAJOR HWY SLOWING FOR A CURVE THE VEHICLE STALLED AFTER COASTING SAFELY TO THE SIDE (20215 MILES), THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART FOR 20 MINS. ONCE AGAIN TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO HAS NO IDEA WHAT IT COULD BE. THIS VEHICLE IS STARTING TO DO THIS MORE AND MORE OFTEN AND IN EVEN MORE DANGEROUS SITUATIONS, MY WIFE WHO WAS THE PRIMARY DRIVER FOR THE VEHICLE WILL NO LONGER DRIVE IT AS SHE IS FEARFUL FOR THE SAFETY OF OUR CHILDREN AND HERSELF, AS WELL AS THOSE WHO SHARE THE ROADWAYS WITH US. DRIVING 2007 CHEVY HHR CAR COMPLETELY QUITS RUNNING - STALLS IN TRAFFIC. IT HAS OCCURRED AT LEAST 5 TIMES ON SIDE STREETS AND IN 40 MPH TRAFFIC - VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
MY HHR (WHICH I LOVE) HAS HAD VIBRATING BRAKES FOR QUITE SOME TIME. FROM INFO FOUND ON FORUMS DEDICATED TO THE HHR AND HERE, I DETERMINED THAT GM OR THE CHEVY DEALER WASN'T GOING TO SATISFY THE NEED FOR BETTER QUALITY ROTORS. THE OEM ROTORS ARE JUNK AND SHOULD BE BANNED FROM BEING INSTALLED ONTO A MOTOR VEHICLE. INSTEAD OF GETTING THE REGRIND AS SPECIFIED BY GM, I CHOSE TO GET MY OWN BRAKES UPGRADED TO A CANADIAN MADE ROTOR SET AND NEW PADS. PARTS AND LABOR WERE $282.19 TOTAL. I WILL BE SENDING THE BILL TO CHEVROLET, BUT I DOUBT THAT THEY WILL REIMBURSE ME...LOL. *TR

DRIVER WAS LEAVING PARKING LOT WHEN PASSENGER SIDE (RIGHT FRONT) CV SHAFT BROKE COMPLETELY IN HALF AT 35,440 MILES WITHOUT WARNING. CV SHAFT COULD BE HEARD SLAPPING AROUND UNDER CAR WHILE MOTOR RUNNING IN GEAR, PROBABLY TEARING UP OTHER COMPONENTS UNDER THE HOOD AND SUSPENSION. THE CV SHAFT BREAKAGE LEFT THE VEHICLE UNDER NO POWER BECAUSE PASSENGER WHEEL IS THE DRIVE WHEEL....VEHICLE STARTED TO ROLL BACKWARDS INTO TRAFFIC. ALSO, THE VEHICLE'S STEERING WHEEL ALSO HAD NO ABILITY TO BE TURNED TO THE LEFT DUE TO THE BROKEN CV SHAFT BLOCKING IT BY SHAFT HITTING THE WHEEL/HEAT SHIELD/ROTOR ASSY. OWNER HAD TO PUSH CAR BACKWARDS OUT OF TRAFFIC AND INTO PARKING LOT. VEHICLE WOULD STILL ROLLED WHILE IN PARK, HAD TO USE PARKING BRAKE TO MAKE VEHICLE STATIONARY. I WAITED 2.5HRS FOR GM ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE TO GET TOW TRUCK TO MY VEHICLE. 1ST TOW TRUCK DIDN'T COME DUE TO GM NOT CHECKING TO SEE HOW FAR THEY WERE FROM VEHICLE LOCATION. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO JBA CHEVROLET (GLEN BURNIE, MD) ON JUNE 25TH, 09 (NEXT DAY). I WENT TO DEALERSHIP TO CHECK ON CAR AND GET LOANER. JBA OFFERED NO LOANER STATING THAT SERVICE DEPT NOT OPEN AND THEY MUST DIAGNOSE FIRST AND WAIT UNTIL MONDAY AND THEN MAYBE I GET A LOANER. ALSO GM CUST ASST 1-800 NUMBER STATED I COULD RENT AND GET REIMBURSE BUT I DON'T TRUST GM AND MONEY AT ALL AFTER SEEING HOW OTHERS TREATED ABOUT AND HOW POORLY THEY MANAGE THEIR OWN MONEY. THIS CV SHAFT INCIDENT HAPPENED 1 WEEK AFTER GETTING CAR BACK FROM DEALERSHIP FOR BRAKE OVERHEATING/WARPING AND HEAT SHIELD GRINDING PROBLEM. THE MECHANIC THEN STATED HE KNEW BRAKES WERE CHEAPLY MADE AND PROBLEM BUT NO RECALL AND IF OVER 36,000 MILES...THEY WON'T BE FREE ANYMORE.... CV SHAFT LOOKED TO BE MADE OF CHEAP ALUMINUM CAST AND I BELIEVE SAME HEAT PROBLEM THAT MADE CAUSED ROTOR TO WARP, CAUSED CV SHAFT TO BECOME BRITTLE. MY 2007 HHR HAS MADE NOISE WHILE DRIVING SINCE I PURCHASE THE CAR. EVERY 6-12 MONTHS IT SEEMS THAT THIS CAR NEEDS NEW BRAKES I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE SINCE 2008 AND HAD TO REPLACE THE TIRES TWICE DUE TO BAD TRACTION. RECENTLY I HAD TO REPLACE THE STABILIZER BAR WHICH WAS THE REASON THE CAR MADE NOISE WHILE DRIVING, I KNOW THAT CHEVY IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM, BUT TO CONTINUE TO TELL CUSTOMERS THAT IT IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. THREE WEEK AGO WHEN PUTTING ON BRAKES THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES KICK IN AND CAUSE THE CAR TO TAIL SPIN AND INTURN I END UP IN THE GUARD RAIL.
