I WAS DRIVING MY 2007 CHEVY HHR WHEN THE POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON. I STOPPED AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. WHEN I STARTED THE CAR AGAIN IT FINE, BUT AFTER A MILE OR 2 THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON. I HAVE STOPPED AND STARTED THE CAR AGAIN SEVERAL TIMES AND THE SAME THING KEEPS HAPPENING. THAT TELLS ME THAT THERE REALLY ISN'T ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. I WONDER HOW MANY OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
I HAVE BEEN HEARING SOME CLUNKING SOUNDS BUT NOT SURE WHERE THEY ARE COMING FROM. THE RIGHT TURN SIGNAL DOES NOT SHUT OFF BY ITSELF. BRAKE PEDAL FEELS VERY SOFT. *TR
WE PUT THE CAR INTO PARK. DASH NOTIFICATION FOR POWER STEERING. RESTARTED VEHICLE. POWER STEERING BRIEFLY RETURNED. POWER STEERING DASH NOTIFICATION APPEARED AGAIN. RESTARTED & DROVE TO DEALERSHIP. *TR
2007 CHEVROLET HHR. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO IGNITION AND OTHER VEHICLE PROBLEMS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED ON ONE OCCASION, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS REPLACED. A FEW LATER, THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF. THE CONSUMER IS STILL HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE VEHICLE ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 14V047000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AND 14V171000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) IN NOVEMBER OF 2014. AFTER THE REPAIR, THE KEY BECAME STUCK IN THE IGNITION AND THE BATTERY WAS DRAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED AND THE SWITCH WAS REPLACED. ALSO, THE FLOOR SHIFTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH THE MANUFACTURER AND FILED A COMPLAINT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. UPDATED 07/13/16*LJ
WHEN THE PASSENGER ATTEMPTED TO EXIT THE VEHICLE THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE BROKE LEAVING THE DOOR INOPERABLE FROM THE INSIDE. RISK OF BEING TRAPPED IN THE CAR IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY. I WILL BE CONTACTING GM TO REPORT ALSO. *TR
CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 70 ON HIGHWAY, DRY PAVEMENT, DAYLIGHT HOURS AND NO PRECIPITATION OCCURRING. VEHICLE SUDDENLY STARTED DRIFTING TO THE LEFT AND AS I WENT TO CORRECT IT, MY STEERING WHEEL DID NOT RESPOND AS IT SHOULD HAVE AND MY CAR CONTINUED TO GO OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ROAD HITTING THE GUARD RAIL SEVERAL TIMES. ALL THIS HAPPENED INSTANTANEOUSLY AT HIGH SPEED. SIX DAYS LATER I RECEIVED THE BULK MAIL FORM LETTER FROM GM DATED JANUARY 2015 INFORMING ME THAT MY VEHICLE "MAY EXPERIENCE A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING THAT COULD OCCUR AT ANY TIME WHILE DRIVING". I CAN ONLY SPECULATE THAT SUCH PRIOR KNOWLEDGE MIGHT HAVE EQUIPPED ME TO HANDLE THE SITUATION WITH ANY SORT OF READINESS, WHICH GM IS ASSUMING IT WOULD DO BY THIS LETTER. THEY NEED TO DO MORE! I AM POSTING HERE BECAUSE GM CUSTOMER SERVICE REP NEVER ASKED ME WHAT HAPPENED AND WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO TELL HER, SHE DID NOT ACCURATELY UNDERSTAND WHAT I WAS SAYING AND DID NOT ACCURATELY OR COMPLETELY TAKE MY STATEMENT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER:14V171000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM), BUT THE VEHICLE BEGAN HAVING MORE ELECTRICAL ISSUES AFTER THE REPAIR. THE HEADLIGHTS RANDOMLY FAILED, THE LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WOULD BLINK, AND THE RADIO WOULD TURN ON AND OFF AUTOMATICALLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WORKED PROPERLY AFTER THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 3 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED. THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A LARGE ROCK AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING NEEDED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000. UPDATED 6/25/15*CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THE FAILURE OCCURRED FREQUENTLY. UPDATED 9/18/15 *JS
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE TURNING SIGNAL WARNING INDICATOR DID NOT WORK PROPERLY WHEN MAKING A TURN. THE CONTACT HAD TO MANUALLY TURN OFF THE WARNING SIGNAL INSTEAD OF IT TURNING OFF AUTOMATICALLY ONCE THE TURN WAS COMPLETED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
WHILE CHANGING LANES POWER STEERING FAILED. SHUT OFF CAR. RESTARTED AND POWER STEERING WAS WORKING. POWER STEERING AGAIN FAILED ON 01/10/2015. GM HAS A RECALL ON THE 2009 AND 2010 HHR FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT DOES NOT INCLUDE THE 2007. HOWEVER PARAGRAPH FIVE OF THE GM NEWS RELEASE, DATED 2014-03-31 STATES THAT 309,160 NON-TURBOCHARGED HHRS FROM THE 2006-2008 THAT ARE NOT SUBJECT TO THE RECALL WILL BE GIVEN LIFETIME WARRANTIES FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING MOTOR. THE SERVICE REP. AT THE LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER PULLED UP MY VIN NUMBER AND SAID THE UNIT HAD BEEN REPLACED AT SOME EARLIER DATE AND REPLACEMENT AT THIS TIME IS NOT COVERED. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE HHR AND ALL MODELS MUST BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I EXPECT MY HHR TO STEER AND STOP. THANK YOU. *TR
DRIVING AS NORMAL WHEN THE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY FAILED AND THE WARNING LIGHT AND CHIME SOUNDED THAT FACT. AFTER TURNING THE ENGINE OFF, THE POWER STEERING AGAIN WORKED. THE SAME EVENT HAPPENED LATER IN THE DAY. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS FAILURE AND AFTER RESEARCH, NUMEROUS 2007 HHR'S ARE EXPERIENCING THIS AS A COMMON FAILURE. APPARENTLY IT IS A SHORT IN THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING UNIT MOUNTED ON THE STEERING COLUMN. CHEVY ABSOLUTELY NEEDS TO RECALL BEFORE A SERIOUS CRASH OCCURS IF ONE OR MORE HASN'T ALREADY OCCURRED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT AN ELECTRICAL COMPONENT ATTACHED TO THE POWER STEERING MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. NO FURTHER INFORMATION WAS AVAILABLE ON THE SPECIFICS OF THE DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR IF THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000.
THE POWER STEERING IN MY 2007 HHR HAS WENT OUT THKS IT'S THE SECOND TIME! THE FIRST TIME WAS WHEN THE RECALL FUR HHR 2009 & 10 CAME OUT. I WAS TOLD THEN THEY COULD FIX THE WIRING AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY! NOW THE WHOLE THING HAS TO BE REPLACED AND I BELIEVE THIS IS SOMETHING THAT SHOULD BE DONE BY GM NOT MYSELF! I KNOW GM HAS LOTS GOING ON RIGHT NOW WITH ALL THE PART ISSUES AND I'M NOT TRYING TO CAUSE ANYMORE DRAMA, BUT I FEEL RIGHT IS RIGHT AND I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY 1179.25 FOR SOMETHING THAT I CAN'T CONTROL! THE HEADLIGHTS TURNED OFF WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE RUNNING DAYLIGHTS AND HIGH-BEAMS ARE STILL OPERABLE BUT THE LOW-BEAM LIGHTS ARE INOPERABLE. REPLACING THE BULBS DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. I AM TOLD THIS HAS OCCURRED IN OTHER CHEVROLET MODELS BUT THE HHR IS STILL NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECENT RECALL. AT THE SAME TIME OF THIS INCIDENT THE RADIO AND SPEAKERS BECAME INOPERABLE AS WELL LEADING ME TO BELIEVE THIS COULD BE AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET AND THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING. I WAS IN A CONSTRUCTION ZONE AND THERE WAS NO SHOULDER. I HAD TO DRIVE A FEW MILES WITH NO POWER STEERING IN ORDER TO SAFELY PULL OVER. I SHUT THE CAR OF AND BACK ON AND IT STARTED WORKING AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES NOW. I COULD HAVE CRASHED AND HURT SOMEONE. I SEE THERE WERE RECALLS ON THE SAME PART BUT FOR DIFFERENT YEARS. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH AND WENT TO TURN ONTO A STREET WHEN THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. THERE WAS A DINGING SOUND AND IT SHOWED POWER STEERING ON THE DASH DISPLAY. I WAS INCHES AWAY FROM AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE ALREADY TAKEN THE CAR INTO THE DEALER LAST WEEK FOR THIS SAME ISSUE. I HAD THE STEERING GO OUT A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO. THE DEALERSHIP, DON HEWLETT CHEVROLET, GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, SAID THEY REPLACED THE POWER STEERING MOTOR AND IT WAS FIXED. I ALMOST HAD A VEHICLE ACCIDENT BOTH TIMES. *TR
I GOT A OIL CHANGE AN THEN WENT HOME PARKED MY CAR AN EVERYTHING WAS FINE AT 3:25PM I WENT TO MY CAR AND GOT IN I PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AN IT WOULDNT START AT ALL I THEN TRIED TO TAKE THE KEY OUT AN IT WOULD COME OUT AT ALL I THEN KNEW SOMTHING WAS WRONG. *TR
I HAVE BEEN CALLING THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP IN AN ATTEMPT TO SCHEDULE MY RECALLS SINCE JULY 2014. I WAS INITIALLY TOLD THE PARTS WOULD BE ORDERED AND ASKED IF THERE WAS ANYTHING ELSE I COULD SCHEDULE AS THEY DO NOT LIKE TO SCHEDULE RECALLS DUE TO IT TAKES AWAY MONEY FROM SERVICE. I SCHEDULED A REPAIR AND HEARD NOTHING ELSE. I HAVE BEEN CALLING FOR MONTHS AND LEAVING MESSAGES WITH NO RETURN CALLS, OR THEY WOULD TELL ME THEY WERE GOING TO CHECK ON THIS AND CALL ME BACK NEVER TO BE HEARD FROM AGAIN. I FINALLY HAD TO GET UGLY WITH THEM AND FINALLY THEY HAVE SCHEDULED SOME OF THE RECALLS TO BE FIXED NEXT WEEK. SEEMS LIKE THIS SHOULD BE GROUNDS FOR A LAWSUIT AS THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY WAS SO EASILY PASSED OVER DURING ALL THESE MONTHS. *TR

NO PROBLEMS UNTIL 11/05/14 RECALL 14063 IGNITION SWITCH AND 14113 LOCK CYLINDER WERE REPLACED. 20 DAYS LATER AFTER FIGHTING WITH GM AND THE DEALERSHIP FOR 3 WEEKS IT WAS TOWED BACK TO DEALERSHIP BECAUSE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AND KEY WOULD NOT COME OUT OF IGNITION. TESTED CHARGING SYSTEM AND FOUND BATTERY TO FAIL. REPLACED BATTERY, VEHICLE STARTED AND KEY RELEASED UNTIL THE NEXT TIME I WENT TO START IT ABOUT 2 WEEKS LATER. VEHICLE WOULDN'T START AND KEY WOULD NOT COME OUT OF IGNITION AGAIN. 01/30/15 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP CAME TO MY HOUSE TO PICK UP THE VEHICLE AND TOOK IT IN FOR RECALL SPECIAL COVERAGE 14632 FLOOR SHIFTER REPLACED. BEFORE I COULD GET THE VEHICLE BACK THE DEALERSHIP CALLED AND INFORMED ME THE NEW BATTERY HAD FROZEN AND WOULD NOT ACCEPT A CHARGE. I REPLACED THAT BATTERY WITH ANOTHER NEW BATTERY. THEIR DIAGNOSIS WAS I NEEDED A NEW BODY CONTROL MODULE ESTIMATED PARTS AND LABOR $600 BEFORE I WOULD EVER BE ABLE TO DRIVE IT. I HAVE NOT DROVE THE VEHICLE IN OVER A YEAR. IT HAS BEEN SITTING IN STORAGE. I AM AUTHORIZING THE DEALERSHIP TO BEGIN WORK ON IT TOMORROW. IF BY REPLACING THE BODY CONTROL MODULE IT CORRECTS ALL THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS THIS VEHICLE HAS I WOULD EXPECT GENERAL MOTORS TO ISSUE A RECALL EVENTUALLY AND REIMBURSE ME FOR THE EXPENSE OF PARTS AND LABOR.

RETURNED ON 07/11/2016. ON 07/11 I MOVED IT ABOUT 30 FEET AND POSITIONED IT IN THE TURN AROUND. ON 07/12 I WENT OUT TO PUT THE HHR IN GARAGE AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START ONCE AGAIN. KEY FOB WOULDN'T EVEN UNLOCK THE DOORS. UPDATE....7/13 ANOTHER NEW BATTERY. STARTED 7/13 - 7/22. 7/23 KEY FOB WOUDLN'T EVEN OPEN DOORS. VEHICLE WOULDN'T START AND KEY LOCKED IN THE IGNITION AGAIN. I WANT G.M. TO BUY THIS PIECE OF CRAP HHR BACK. THE ONLY SATISFACTION I WILL ACCEPT. FINALIZED AND NON NEGOTIABLE. I WANT MY MONEY BACK!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP, WHERE THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED TO CHECK WITH A LOCAL AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION, DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 14V153000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V047000 (AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AND WAS CONCERNED THAT THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION AND THE VEHICLE RESTARTED INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE PRIOR TO THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,000.
DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY POWER STEERING GOES OUT, ALARM BUZZER AND LIGHTS ON DASH COME ON. AFTER BEING SHUTOFF IF WORKED UNTIL A FEW DAYS LATER. SAME THING. SHUTTING OFF SEEMS TO ALLOW IT TO RESET ITSELF. INVESTIGATION SHOWS THE STEERING IS THE SAME PART NUMBER AS A COBALT BUT 2007 HHR ISN'T ON RECALL ONLY COBALT. THE HHR WAS ACTUALLY MANUFACTURED IN LATE 2006. PURCHASED NEW. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING A RIGHT TURN, THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A RETAINING WALL AND ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY AND THE SEAT BELT FAILED TO RESTRAIN THE CONTACT SECURELY. ADDITIONALLY, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE DOORS COULD NOT BE UNLOCKED. THE CONTACT BECAME TRAPPED IN THE VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED OF THE INCIDENT. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE KNEE, CHEST AND ARM. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,990. KMJ
APPROXIMATELY 6 WEEKS AGO, I WAS DRIVING MY CHEVROLET HHR 2007, (40 MPH), WHEN TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON, AND THE INFO SHOWED TRACTION CONTROL OFF, AND THEN SERVICE TRACTION, AT THE SAME TIME I COULD HEAR AND FEEL THE CAR WAS SHIFTING HARD. IT WAS LIKE KICKING. I PARKED, TURNED OFF THE CAR AND TURNED ON AGAIN, AND THE LIGHT DISAPPEAR BUT AFTER FEW HOURS, IT WAS THERE AGAIN, SHORTLY AFTER THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WITH THE INFO CHECK ENGINE, AND STAYED ON WITH THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT, THEN THIS DISAPPEAR BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT STAYED. ALSO THE CAR HAS MADE NOISE SINCE 2008 WHEN MY HUSBAND BOUGHT IT.I DON'T KNOW IF BOTH PROBLEMS ARE RELATED. ON 10/15/14 I WENT TO THE DEALER BECAUSE MY CAR HAS 5 DIFFERENT RECALLS TO FIX, AND THE SERVICE TRACTION LIGHT WAS ON, THEY DIDN'T CHECK IT, THEY SAID IF I WANT THEM CHECK IT, I HAVE TO PAID FOR THE INSPECTION. A WARNING LIGHT COMES ON IN THE DASH AND THEN THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT,CAUSING THE CAR TO STEER VERY HARD.BEFORE THIS STARTED TO HAPPEN, FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS EVERY TIME I APPLIED THE BRAKES THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD VIBRATE VERY BAD.
