I HAVE A 2009 HHR AND I HAVE BEEN HAVING A NUMBER OF PROBLEMS THE ESC AND THE ABS WARNING LIGHTS COME AT LOW SPEEDS AROUND 5 TO 15 MPH AND THE BRAKES MAKE A GROWLING NOISE I DRIVE 80 MILES A DAY BACK AND FORTH TO WORK IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC ON THE INTERSTATE AND THE TURNPIKE I AM AFRAID I WILL REAR END SOMEBODY OR WORSE I DON'T WANT TO LET MY WIFE DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE WHEN IT OCCURS SHE MIGHT NOT KNOW ON TO REACT. WHEN I TURN THE CAR OFF AND IT GOES AWAY FOR A WHILE BUT COMES BACK. AND THE SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON FROM TIME TO TIME WHEN IT IS RAINING OR HEAVY DEW I HAD THE RECALL PERFORMED ON THE AIR BAGS AND IT STILL IS HAPPENING THE PASSENGER AIR BAG DISPLAY ON THE DASH WILL COME ON WHEN THERE IS NO ONE SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THE SERVICE ABS LIGHT ALSO COMES ON AT THE SAME TIME AS THE ESC AND THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT I DON'T FEEL SAFE I HAVE 179,000 MILES ON THE CAR THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IN THIS CAR HAS A MAJOR PROBLEM AND IT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY GM BEFORE MORE PEOPLE ARE HURT OR KILLED AS I HAVE READ IN OTHER COMMENTS I DON'T WANT TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER AND JUST GO THRU THE REMOVE AND REPLACE TANGO TRYING TO GET LUCKY AND FIX THE PROBLEM OR PLAY CAR DOCTOR AND TREAT THE SYMPTOMS AND NOT ADDRESS THE MALADY
ON OCT 25 2015 AROUND 7:00PM, I PARKED AT PARKING LOT OF HOME DEPOT LANE AVE JACKSONVILLE FL. I PULLED THE INSIDE HANDLE TO OPEN THE DOOR AT DRIVER'S SIDE, THE HANDLE BROKE APART. I COULDN'T OPEN THE DOOR. I COULDN'T GET OUT OF THE CAR. NOBODY WAS AROUND. I WAS PANIC...SOMETIME LATER, I REALIZED I COULD CRAWL TO THE PASSENGER SIDE AND GOT OUT FROM PASSENGER'S DOOR. IF THIS WAS AN EMERGENCY AND I COULDN'T GET OUT OF CAR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, MY LIFE COULD BE ENDANGERED.
CAR WOULD NOT CRANK, REPLACED BATTERY,HAD ALTERNATOR AND STARTER TESTED ALL GOOD. HAD TO HAVE VEHICLE TOWED TO VEHICLE REPAIR SHOP. NOW THE PART THAT IS NEEDED IS NOT AVAILABLE NEW SO NOW MY MECHANIC HAS WENT THROUGH THREE PARTS THAT HAVE NOT WORKED. IT HAS TO DO WITH THE FUSE BOX. WHY HASN'T THIS VEHICLE NOT BEEN RECALLED IF CHEVROLET NO LONGER MAKES THIS PART? I SEE A LOT OF HHRS ON THE ROAD AND SOONER OR LATER THESE CARS WILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS SAME VEHICLE HAD STALLED ON ME BEFORE AND THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM .I STILL OWE FOR A VEHICLE THAT CANNOT BE FIXED. SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP GET THIS CAR RECALLED.
CAR WAS PARKED AND NO ONE WAS INSIDE WHEN THE BACK GLASS JUST POPPED AND SHATTERED.
I AM PICKING MY CAR BACK UP TOMORROW AND ALL MT PAPERS ARE IN IT...BACI AROUND 3/15 MY ETC LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR JERKED, THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIME OVER THE NEXT COUPLE MONTHS, TOOK IT IN TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAD IT FOR 2 WKS AND COULD NOT FIGURE IT OUT AND I WAS TO LET THEM KNOW IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN...8/26/15 WAS THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED AND THE ETC LIGHT CAME ON FOR ABOUT 1 1/2 SECONDS AND SLOWED ME DOWN ALMOST TO A STOP AND WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED!!! CALLED, TOOK IT IN AND THEY HAVE HAD IT FOR 2 WKS AND THEY CALLED AND TOLD ME SINCE THEY COULD NOT MAKE IT HAPPEN THEY COULD NOT FIX IT AND IT WAS NOT A MECHANICAL PROBLEM. I AM SCARED TO (MAYBE) DEATH TO PICK IT UP AND DRIVE IT TILL IT HAPPENS AGAIN AND MAYBE CAUSES AN ACCIDENT .

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET HHR. WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO OPEN THE VEHICLE WITH THE KEY, THE MASTER KEY OPENER WOULD NOT UNLOCK THE DOORS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND TOWED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED SEVEN OTHER TIMES. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000. UPDATED 10/29/15*LJ UPDATED 11/22/2017*CN
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2009 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE ELECTRONIC CONTROL PANEL FAILED TO WORK AND THE FRONT AND REAR WINDOWS FAILED TO GO UP AND DOWN WHEN USED ELECTRONICALLY. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS WORSE DURING RAINY WEATHER. AS THE FAILURE PROGRESSED, THE VENT CONTROLS FAILED TO WORK FOR HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WAS NOT ABLE TO REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE TO SCHEDULE THE RECALL REPAIR FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 14V047000 (AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM), 14V153000 (STEERING), AND 14V171000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). WHILE ENTERING THE ROAD FROM A PARKING COMPLEX, THE AIR CONDITIONING CONTROL WAS TURNED ON AND SMOKE EMITTED INTO THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE NEAR THE DASHBOARD. EXTENSIVE SMOKE WAS COMING THROUGH THE VENTS. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO COAST THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE ERUPTED INTO FLAMES AND THE FRONT WINDSHIELD MELTED DOWNWARD. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED DUE TO THE FAILURE AND TOWED TO A YARD. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED NO REMEDY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 196,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A TELEPHONE POLE, BUT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT WAS INJURED, BUT NO MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS REQUIRED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER TO BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 14,900.
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR THERE ARE POWER/ELECTRICAL SURGES. I HAVE DOCUMENT THIS SEVERAL TIMES. THE LEFT REAR TAIL LIGHTS REPEATEDLY BURNS OUT, IT DOESN'T JUST BLOW, IT CRACKS AND MELTS. TO THE POINT IT LITERALLY MELTS THE HOLDER OF THE BULB. THE SURGES ARE MORE FREQUENT. I HAVE TO CHANGE BURNT/ LITERALLY EXPLODED BULBS EVER 3-4 DAYS. AND I HAVE CALLED THE CHEVY DEALER AND THEY HAVE TOLD ME THIS IS ELECTRICAL. THE POWER SURGES CAN HAPPEN ANYTIME WITH OUT NOTICE. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FOR A CHEVY HHR BUT THAT MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT LISTED IN THIS BATCH OF RECALLS FOR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONS. I ALSO CALLED THE CHEVY HEADQUARTERS AND THEY INFORMED ME ITS MY ISSUE, THERE IS NO RECALL FOR MY CAR FOR THIS AND ITS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRENTY. SO I ASKED IM JUST TO KEEP DRIVING A CAR THAT HAS ELECTRICAL SURGES, WHAT IF IT SURGES TO THE GAS TANK OR SOMETHING. SHE SAID ITS NOT COVERED. SO, I WANT IT FORMALLY DOCUMENTED THAT A REPORT WAS ISSUED; SINCE IT IS HAPPENING ALL THE TIME. I HAVE GOTTEN PULLED OVER TWICE IN 2 MONTHS FOR THIS LIGHT. AND THERE IS NOTHING I CAN DO ABOUT IT. . THESE SURGES HAVE BEEN HAPPENING OVER THE PAST YEAR, I WAS TOLD THAT MAY BE THE REASON THAT MY PASSENGER SEAT BELT LOCKED UP ( CAUSING ME TO HAVE TO CUT MY DAUGHTER OUT OF IT) AND THE REASON THE WINDOWS WILL SOMETIME STOP OPERATING. BUT WILL EVENTUALLY START BACK.

THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL INDICATOR ILLUMINATED PRIOR TO THE FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE UNKNOWN. MA 08/11/15 THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT, THE FAILURE RECURRED 14 DAYS LATER. THE CONSUMER WAS ADVISED OF A MAY 2014 RECALL THAT INCLUDED THE SAME MALFUNCTIONS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET HHR. SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN FOUR RECALLS. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE RECEIVE THE RECALL REPAIRS DESPITE NO FAILURES OCCURRING. ONCE THE VEHICLE RECEIVED THE RECALL REPAIR FOR THE POWER STEERING AND HAD THE POWER STEERING ASSIST MOTOR REPLACED, THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE FOLLOWING DAY, WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT PARKED THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THE POWER STEERING WAS STILL INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WERE ABLE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THE DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS WERE NOT PROVIDED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT WAS UNSURE OF WHAT WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 126,000.

THE FAILURE RECURRED ON A SEPARATE OCCASION WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,700.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE SERVICE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AS WELL AS THE WARNING CHIME. I PURCHASED THE CAR USED IN AUGUST 2013, AND SOON AFTER GETTING IT THE VERY SAME WARNING CAME ON. I WENT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY HAD IT SENT TO A LOCAL GM DEALER TO BE FIXED. I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM A DODGE AND SUBARU DEALER AND THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO DO THE REPAIR. I WAS SHOWN THE REPAIR PAPERWORK STATING THAT A FAULTY AIRBAG SENSOR WAS REPLACED. WELL JUST LAST WEEK THE VERY SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. THE SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT COMES ON THEN GOES OFF SOMETIMES AFTER ONLY A FEW SECONDS. THEN ANOTHER WARNING LIGHT WENT ON STATING FAULTY AIR PRESSURE SENSOR. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AS WELL SO I'M WONDERING IF THERE IS SOME TYPE OF ELECTRICAL GREMLIN IN THE CAR. THIS IS EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING BECAUSE I LIKE THE CAR BUT ALL OF THESE STUPID LITTLE ISSUES MAKE ME WANT TO TRADE IT IN, AND NEVER BUY ANYTHING MADE BY GM EVER AGAIN. *TR

INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHT FLICKER CONSTANTLY, DOES THIS IN PARK AND DURING DRIVING, NOTICED LATELY THAT THE HEAD LIGHTS ARE ALSO DIMMING AT START UP.

I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE THIS IS COMING FROM BUT IN THE MORNING WHEN I START MY HHR THERE IS A VERY STRONG ODOR OF SILICON. IT TAKES ME ABOUT 30 MIN. TO GET TO WORK AND BY THE TIME I GET TO WORK I HAVE THE WORST HEADACHE FROM SMELLING THIS THE WHOLE TRIP. IT IS STRONGER WHEN THE A/C IN ON. NOT SURE IF THIS IS WHERE IT IS COMING FROM BUT IT WILL MAKE YOU NAUSEATED.
WENT TO BACK HHR OUT OF MY GARAGE AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ROCK HARD WITH NO GIVE. POWER STEERING HAS NO POWER AND THE EXC LIGHT IS ON. NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AT ALL. TODAY I MADE THE MISTAKE OF LEAVING A DOME LIGHT ON WHILE IN CHURCH FOR A FEW HRS. CAME OUT IT STARTED UP WITH NO PROBLEM. GOT ON THE FERRY PARKED AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO START UP TO GET OFF THE CAR WAS DEAD. NOW THIS IS THE TERROR OF THAT , THE DOOR LOCKS DIDN'T WORK, THE HORN WAS DEAD, THE WINDOW LOCKS DIDN'T WORK AND THE STEERING WAS LOCKED. I GOT THE ATTENTION OF A PERSON PASSING AND THEY OPENED THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE. MY DAUGHTER IS TOTALLY DISABLED AND SHE WAS ASLEEP AND THE PASSENGER SEAT. WHAT IF THIS HAD BEEN SOME LIFE OR DEATH MATTER AND WE NEEDED TO GET OUT. IS THIS NORMAL OR IS IT SOMETHING I DIDN'T KNOW TO DO. THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY RECALLS ON THIS CAR, IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A TOTAL RECALL. I AM SO AFRAID FOR OUR LIVES AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. TERRIFIED TO GET IN IT WITH HER AND GO ANY WHERE. IT WAS SNOWING AND I STARTED MY CAR TO WARM IT UP. I CLEANED OFF THE WINDOWS WITH MY SNOW BRUSH. WHENEVER I GOT INTO THE CAR AND TURNED ON THE WIPERS, THEY MOVED FOR A SPLIT SECOND THEN STOPPED. I GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND CHECKED THE WIPERS. THEY WERE MOVING FREELY. NOTHING I DID WOULD MAKE THE WIPERS WORK. I WENT ONLINE AND CHECKED FOR PROBLEMS WITH CHEVY HHR WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND FOUND THAT IT'S A KNOWN ISSUE. ON ONE WEBSITE, CHEVY HHR.NET, THERE EVEN IS A DISCUSSION BOARD ABOUT THE PROBLEM. IT'S THE WINDSHIELD WIPER TRANSMISSION AND FROM EVERYTHING I'VE READ THIS HAPPENS BETWEEN 60,00 AND 85,000 MILES ON THE HHR AND CHEVY COBALT. I WAS TOLD THAT THE REPAIR IS @$300.00 AND I'M WONDERING WHY GM WOULD MAKE A VEHICLE THAT HAS A PART THAT FAILS SO EASILY. *TR
AFTER BUYING THE HHR THE DAY BEFORE I WENT TO WORK. ON MY WAY BACK HOME. I GOT OFF ON MY EXIT ABOUT HALF WAY DOWN THE RAMP MY SIDE AIRBAGS WENT OFF. THEN I PUSHED THE BRAKES AND THEY DID NOT RESPOND SENDING ME INTO A MEADEN CAUSING MY WHEEL TO SNAP ALMOST ALL THE WAY OFF. *TR
LESS THEN 24 HOURS OFF THE LOT I WAS DRIVING HOME OFF HWY26 EXITING TO MY TOWN OF WATERTOWN,WI. I WAS SLOWING DOWN ON THE RAMP AND MY SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED. I WAS HIT IN THE HEAD BY THE DRIVER VISOR CAUSING MY TO FLINCH AND RELEASE THE BREAK FOR A SLIT SECOND. I TRIED TO REAPPLY THE BREAK AND HAD NO BREAKS I WAS STILL AT 40MPH. IT WAS SNOWING THIS CAUSED ME TO NOT BE ABLE TO TURN SO I HIT A MEADEN SNAPPING MY A ARM. I ALSO SNIPPED MY ABS CABLE, BLEW OUT DRIVER BALL JOINTS, BENT THE TIE ROD, DISLOCATED MY AXEL BENT MY RIM AND RUINED MY NEW TIRE ON THE DRIVER SIDE. ON THE PASSENGER SIDE I BROKE MY KNUCK AND BLEW OUT MY BALL JOINTS. IT LOCKED UP MY DRIVER SEAT BELT AND EVEN WITH NO ONE WEARING THE PASSENGER ONE IT LOCKED THAT UP TOO. AFTER IT HAPPENED GOING ONLINE I HAVE FOUND A FEW MORE CASES LIKE MINE ONE CAUSED A WOMAN TO SPEND A MONTH AND A HALF IN HOSPITAL FROM HITTING A POLE. *TR

THE LAST ANSWER WE RECEIVED IS THAT THE AIRBAG IS ONLY UNDER WARRANTY FOR TWO YEARS BUT PREVIOUS TO THIS WE WERE TOLD THAT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT DOES NOT EVEN KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS. MY SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT GADSDEN CHEVROLET HAS NOT EVEN FIXED THE SWITCH RECALL YET. THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO CALL WHEN THEY GOT THE PART IN. EVEN THOUGH MY HUSBAND HAS CALLED MULTIPLE TIMES THEY STILL HAVE NOT CALLED. THERE IS ANOTHER ISSUE FOR WHICH THEY HAVE OFFERED FOR US TO JUST PAY HALF AND THEY KNOW THEY ARE SUPPOSE TO FIX THEM BOTH AT THE SAME TIME. THIS BASICALLY LEFT ME STUCK IN THE VEHICLE UNLESS I CRAWLED OVER THE CENTER CONSOLE OR UNLESS I WAS ABLE TO ROLL DOWN THE ELECTRIC WINDOW, PIVOT IN THE SEAT, AND REACH THE OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLE. OBVIOUSLY IN AN ACCIDENT, OR VEHICLE FIRE, THE EXTRA TIME NEEDED TO EXIT, IF THE DOOR HANDLE BROKE OFF, IS UNACCEPTABLE.
