TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V116000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AFTER THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE COMPARTMENT CAUGHT FIRE. THE CONTACT PARKED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PUT OUT THE FIRE WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DENNY MENHOLT RAPID CHEVROLET (2323 E MALL DR, RAPID CITY, SD 57701) AND THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WERE WAITING FOR THE MANUFACTURER'S APPROVAL FOR REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LESTER GLEN CHEVROLET (398 RTE 37 E, TOMS RIVER NJ, 08753, (732-276-1286) FOR RECALL REPAIR OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V400000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE DEALER OPENED THE KEY PUT A RING INTO THE KEY AND ADVISED THAT THE REPAIR WOULD STOP THE IGNITION FROM ROLLING HOWEVER, THE REPAIR DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE WHEN THE CONTACT DROVE AT LOCAL SPEED THE KEY ROTATED BACK TO THE OFF POSITION AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SHUT-OFF. THE CONTACT MOVED THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROADWAY TO A SAFE LOCATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN UNKNOWN DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AS 123,000. INVALID VIN
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE, SMOKE WAS PRESENT COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE HOOD WAS OPENED AND FLAMES WERE PRESENT COMING FROM THE ENGINE MANIFOLD AND HEAD GASKET. WATER WAS USED TO EXTINGUISH THE FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS NOT CALLED TO THE SCENE. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 123,986. THE VIN WAS INVALID.
I TURNED THE KEY IN MY CAR TO START IT, THERE WAS A VERY LOUD POP AND THE ENGINE STARTED SMOKING. THE ENGINE THEN CAUGHT FIRE AND IS TOTALLY DESTROYED. THIS CAR HAD BEEN USED 2 DAYS PRIOR WITH NO ISSUES, NO SAFETY LIGHTS ON, NO ISSUES DRIVING AND IT STARTED FINE THAT LAST TIME IT WAS DRIVEN. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT HAS SENT ME A REPORT ON THE CAUSE.

THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 123,200.
TAKATA RECALL MY INTAKE MANIFOLD HAVE A RECALL ON IT AND I WOULD LIKE TO BRING IT IN TO GET FIXED. I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM AN AUCTION. ALSO MY FUEL FLOW DOES NOT WORK.

THE CONTACT LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT A FIRE HAD ERUPTED NEAR THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. THE FIRE EXTINGUISHED ON ITS OWN. ALSO, THE VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY MISFIRED AND PERFORMED SLUGGISHLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO SCHUKEI CHEVROLET INC (721 S MONROE AVE, MASON CITY, IA 50401, 641-494-5589) FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA ACTION NUMBERS: EA02030 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) AND PE00005 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 15V701000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AND 09V116000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE FAILURE CAUSED THE CONTACT TO HAVE TO RENT A VEHICLE FOR TWO WEEKS. WHEN THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER, HE WAS PROVIDED A LOANER VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,500. *TR
WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOSES ALL POWER WHILE IN MOTION ON CITY STREETS AND STALLS. ON OCCASION, THE VEHICLE WILL STALL WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT DURING THE DAILY DRIVE. SOMETIMES, THE CAR CAN RESTART NORMALLY, SOMETIMES THE RESTART IS ROUGH AND THE CAR SHAKES, AND SOMETIMES THE CAR WILL NOT START IMMEDIATELY (ONE OCCASION REQUIRED A WAIT TIME OF APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES). THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN MAINTAINED OVER THE YEARS AND WHEN IT RUNS, IT RUNS FINE. ONCE THE INTERMITTENT STALLING BEGAN, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TWO DIFFERENT SHOPS, NEITHER OF WHICH COULD DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM (THE VEHICLE DID NOT STALL WHILE IN PARK, ENGINE RUNNING, VEHICLE NOT IN MOTION). ERROR CODES DID INDICATE THAT THE MAP SENSOR SHOULD BE REPLACED, AND IT WAS REPLACED, BUT THE STALLING PROBLEM PERSISTS. THE STALLING PROBLEM OCCURRED ONCE IN 2017, AND HAS BECOME MORE FREQUENT IN 2018, OCCURRING AT LEAST ONCE PER DAY. THE STALL MAY OCCUR IN THE FIRST FEW MINUTES OF DRIVING, OR AT 15 MINUTES INTO THE DRIVE, OR AT 45 MINUTES INTO THE DRIVE: THE TIMING OF THE STALL AND THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE STALL BEING INCONSISTENT. THERE IS NO SUGGESTIVE PATTERN. AS IT STANDS TODAY, THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE, AND THE REPAIR TO RETURN THE VEHICLE TO SAFE OPERATION IS UNKNOWN.

REMOVE BATTERY CABLES ALSO FIXES THE PROBLEM BUT ONLY TEMPORARILY PURCHASED USED, REPLACED RECALLS: KEY KNOBS & VALVE COVER GASKET,
CAR JUST STOPPED STARTING BUT THE BATTERY IS GOOD. WHEN I STICK KEY IN IGNITION NOT SAYING NOTHING.

THE INTAKE MANIFOLD WAS REPLACED TWO YEARS PRIOR BY A CERTIFIED MECHANIC, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INTAKE MANIFOLD WAS FRACTURED. IN ADDITION, THE INTAKE MANIFOLD EXPLODED AND CAUSED A FIRE. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE CONTACT'S FAMILY EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE DEALER, WALTER'S CHEVROLET, WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FIRE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 123,000.
HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THE INTAKE MANIFOLD EXPLODING AND CATCHING FIRE. AS THIS SAME THING HAPPEN TO ME, SOUNDS LIKE A LAWSUIT WAITING TO HAPPEN. MINE JUST HAPPEN TO BE IN THE DRIVE WAY, WHEN I WENT TO START IT I SAW SMOKE. SO I TURNED IT OFF, LOOKED UNDER HOOD DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING. WENT TO START IT A FEW DAYS LATER AND I HEARD A REALLY LOUD POP, FOLLOWED BY SMOKE. I QUICKLY TURNED TO OFF POSITION. OPENED MY HOOD AND SURE ENOUGH THE MANIFOLD HAD EXPLODED. WHAT IF I WOULD HAVE BEEN DRIVING? COULD HAVE CAUSED DEATHS TO OTHERS OR EVEN MYSELF, IF IT WASN'T CONTAINED. NOT EVERYONE CARRIES A FIRE EXTINGUISHER!!!!
MY IMPALA EXPLODED THE INTAKE AND CAUGHT FIRE MELTED HARNESS AND SMOKE DAMAGE TO INSIDE CAR GM KNOWS THIS PROBLEM AN HAS NOT HAD A RECALL ON THIS IT IS VERY DANGEROUS AND CAN KILL SOMEONE.

A MONTH AGO I TOWED MY VEHICLE INTO CHASE CHEVROLET TO HAVE (3) RECALLS REMEDIED (VIN VERIFIED VIA NHTSA). THE RECALL IS THE REASON MY VEHICLE HASN'T BEEN RUNNING FOR ABOUT TWO MONTHS. ANYWAY, THE FOLLOWING DAY I WAS NOTIFIED THAT MY VEHICLE WAS FINISHED & READY TO BE TOWED BACK HOME.SINCE THEN I DISCOVERED THAT THE NHTSA HAD TAKEN BACK THE REMEDY DUE TO IT'S FAILURE TO CORRECT ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRES....
