TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING 90 MPH, THE SPEEDOMETER GAUGE BECAME STUCK AND REMAINED AT 90 MPH, EVEN WHILE DRIVING AT LOWER SPEEDS. THE SPEEDOMETER REMAINS AT 90 MPH EVEN WHILE THE VEHICLE IS PARKED. IN ADDITION, THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OVERHEATING WHEN IT ACTUALLY WAS NOT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 49,500 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,487. UPDATED 10/16/08. *LJ THE TRANSMISSION WOULD SLIP WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOPPED POSITION. UPDATED 10/17/08.*JB
THE ELECTRICAL CLUSTERS SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING. ALL THE GAUGES ON MY PANEL DO NOT WORK. THIS INCLUDES MPH, FUEL, RPM, ETC. HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS SUDDENLY HAPPEN? SHOULD IT BE RECALLED? *TR
THE TIRES KEEP LOOSING AIR IT TAKES ABOUT 2 DAYS FOR THEM TO LOOSE ABOUT 10LBS. THEY ARE LEAKING BECAUSE OF CORROSION OF THE WHEEL WHERE THE TIRE BEAD HAS TO SEAL. THE CAR HAS THE INDY SPECIAL EDITION CHROME PLATED ALUMINUM WHEELS. THE PROBLEM IS CAUSED BY THE CHROME PEELING OFF OF THE ALUMINUM IN THE BEAD AREA THE CORROSION CAUSES DEEP PITS THAT WILL NOT LET THE TIRE SEAL. THE DEALERSHIP RECOMMENDED TO PUT INNER TUBES IN THE TIRES WHICH ARE UNSAFE BECAUSE OF SUDDEN DEFLATION IN CASE OF A PUNCTURE. THE WHEELS WOULD COST I THINK OVER $2000 TO REPLACE THE SET. I THINK THIS IS VERY BAD QUALITY ON CHEVY PART. 4 WHEELS BAD ON A CAR IS NOT A NORMAL MAINTENANCE ISSUE. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE OF THE CONSTANT AIR LOSS. 2004 CHEVY IMPALA SS INDY EDITION. *TR
I PURCHASED MY 02 IMPALA LATE 07 USED, IT HAD APPROX. 30K MILES. ABOUT 60K MILES IT STARTED TO HARD SHIFT, THEN STARTED OVERHEATING. IT WOULD ONLY HARD SHIFT WHEN PUT INTO REVERSE, 1ST AND 2ND EVERY NOW AND THEN AND AS THE TIME HAS GONE ON ITS DOING IT MORE AND MORE, AND SHIFTING EVEN HARDER, I CALLED A DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID TOUGH. I AM VERY UNHAPPY WITH THIS PROBLEM, I HAVE A 2 YEAR OLD IN MY CAR WITH ME AT ALL TIMES AND THIS ISSUE IS NOT SAFE. OTHER THAN THIS I LOVE THE CAR. ITS GREAT ON GAS AND ALL AROUND WONDERFUL, I AM JUST VERY UNHAPPY WITH THE TRANSMISSION. I TOOK IT TO AAMCO AND THEY SAID ITS GOING TO NEED TO BE REPLACED SOON, HARD SHIFT AND LONG SHIFT. AND THEY SAID THAT IF I KEEP DRIVING IT I WILL BE DOING MAJOR HARM TO THE TRANNY. I CANT AFFORD THIS AND IT SEEMS AS IF I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. I KNOW 1 OTHER PERSON THAT HAS AN 04 IMPALA AND THEY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
2004 IMPALA, CLUNKING NOISE IN STEERING. SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL. IT HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE. NOW I HAVE SLIGHTLY LOOSE STEERING WITH NOTICEABLE PLAY IN THE STEERING. THANKS FOR STANDING BEHIND KNOWN MANUFACTURING PROBLEMS GM! WILL BE MY LAST GM AUTOMOBILE. *TR
CAR WAS TAKEN IN FOR BRAKES. ROTORS WARPED @ 21,500 MILES. 12,000 MILES LATER, WARPED AGAIN. WAS TOLD THIS WAS COMMON AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR ME. REPAIR COST OUT OF POCKET. CAR WAS TAKEN IN FOR AN OVERHEATING PROBLEM. WAS TOLD IT WAS TOTALLY NATURAL FOR MY CAR TO GET THAT HOT. UNBELIEVABLE!! NOW I HAVE AN INTAKE OR A HEAD GASKET THAT IS BAD. AGAIN, NOTHING THEY CAN DO. AGAIN, COST OUT OF MY POCKET. THIS WILL BE THE LAST CHEVY I SERVICE. MY CAR ONLY HAS 34,000 MILES IT. THE SERVICE CENTER TOLD US, "CARS ARE MADE DIFFERENT THESE DAYS. STUFF HAPPENS." IF THEY CAN'T STAND BEHIND THEIR CARS I WON'T BUY ANOTHER. 34,000 MILES AND MY CAR IS JUNK. I THINK A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED REGARDING THESE PROBLEMS. BAD BRAKES AND BAD GASKETS. *TR
THE SPEEDOMETER GAUGE IS NOT READING CORRECTLY. FIRST, IT WAS SHOWING YOUR SPEED AS 120MPH, WHEN YOU WERE STOPPED. IT WAS NEVER ACCURATE. THEN ONE DAY, IT JUST STAYED AT 0MPH, EVEN WHEN YOU WERE MOVING. I HAD IT FIXED THROUGH A GM DEALERSHIP, AND THEY FIXED THE CLUSTER. THIS PART SHOULD BE RECALLED. I HAVE SEEN A LOT OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME CAR, AND SAME PROBLEM. GM NEEDS TO REALIZE THE DANGER WITH THIS DEFECT. IT IS NOT A CHEAP FIX EITHER. I AM SAVING MY RECEIPT IN HOPES THAT GM WILL REALIZE THE HAZARDS WITH DRIVING A CAR THIS WAY. *TR
THREE TIME IN THE LAST 30 DAYS MY 2004 IMPALA FAILED TO START BECAUSE OF SECURITY SYSTEM PROBLEM,I HAVE BEEN ADVISED BY MECHANIC ,THIS IS A VERY COSTLY REPAIR.. SPEEDOMETER AND GAS GAUGE ARE NOT WORKING. THEY SUDDENLY STOPPED BEING CORRECT. SOMETIMES THEY SHOW I AM GOING 100 WHILE IN PARK, OR 75 WHILE GOING 30. THE GAUGES FREEZE AND STAY THAT WAY FOR SEVERAL DAYS. I HAVE READ ONLINE THAT MANY OTHERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE VERY SAME THING. *TR
SINCE ONE MONTH AGO, I STARED TO PERCEIVE AN STRONG FUEL ODOR, BUT EVERY TIME I OPENED THE HOOD I COULD NOT FIND THE LICK. FINALLY YESTERDAY I DID THE SAME, AND I FOUND OUT THAT THE FUEL PRESS REGULATOR WAS THE PROBLEM. I AM NOT USING THE CAR NOW INSTEAD I AM USING MY TRUCK. HEADLIGHTS WENT OFF DURING DRIVING AT NIGHT. THIS HAPPENED EIGHT TO TEN TIMES OVER A PERIOD OF THREE TO FOUR MONTHS, WITH LIGHTS ON HIGH BEAM. LIGHTS CAME BACK ON WHEN DIMMER LEVER WAS ACTIVATED. INSTRUMENT PANEL REMAINED ILLUMINATED WHEN HEADLIGHTS WENT OFF. *TR
FAILURE OF THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER -- MOST IMPORTANTLY THE SPEEDOMETER BECAME GROSSLY INACCURATE OR COMPLETELY INOPERATIVE DURING THE COURSE OF NORMAL DRIVING. IN SOME INSTANCES THE SPEEDOMETER READ 0MPH AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND OTHER TIMES IT WOULD READ 120+MPH WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED. CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP FOUND AN INTERNAL GAUGE CLUSTER PROBLEM AND REPLACED THE CLUSTER. *TR
TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT ISSUE HAS HAD AT LEAST FIVE VISITS TO THE DEALER! *TR
SPEEDOMETER HAS BEEN STICKING AND WILL GET STUCK OR STOPS WORKING. WILL READ 140 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE IS ACTUALLY GOING ABOUT 60. ALSO WHEN PARKED IT WILL READ OUT 70 40 100 ETC ETC. EVEN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS OFF. DROPS TO 0 MPH AND JUMPS FROM 0 MPH TO 20 MPH IN MOTION OR SITTING IN TRAFFIC. *TR

SPEEDOMETER GRADUALLY READS LOWER SPEED THAN ACTUAL VEHICLE SPEED, CAUSING DRIVER TO SPEED UP AND GO TOO FAST. *TR

LAST YEAR AROUND THIS SAME TIME I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AROUND 4:30 AM ON I 85 NB IN ATLANTA, GA. GOING TO WORK WHEN MY CAR SUDDENLY WENT TOTALLY DARK. I DIDN'T REALIZE IT UNTIL I GOT TO A STRETCH OF HIGHWAY THAT HAD NO LIGHTS. IT WAS VERY SCARY CAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW IF ANY OF THE OTHER CARS COULD SEE ME. I GOT OFF THE HWY AT THE 1ST EXIT AND WAITED UNTIL DAYLIGHT TO GO CONTINUE TO WORK. I WENT TO THE 1ST MECHANIC THAT OPENED AND THE LIGHTS WERE WORKING AGAIN SO THE MECHANIC COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. 1 YEAR LATER ON 2/12/08, MY 7YEAR OLD SON AND I WENT TO THE DRUG STORE TO GET HIS MEDICATION AND AS WE WERE DRIVING UP SR 139, I NOTICED THAT I COULDN'T SEE THE ROAD!!! AGAIN, I'M ON A STRETCH OF ROAD WITH NO STREET LIGHTS AND THIS TIME I HAVE INTERIOR LIGHTS, BLINKERS AND PARKERS, BUT I HAVE NO HEADLIGHTS. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND CUT THE CAR OFF HOPING TO RESET THE COMPUTER OR WHATEVER WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM AND WHEN I RESTARTED THE CAR THE HEADLIGHTS STILL DIDN'T COME ON. I WAITED APPROX 45 MINUTES AND STILL IN THE DARK. I WAS SOOO AFRAID BECAUSE I HAD MY SON WITH ME AND I HAD ABOUT 2.5 MILES TO GO BEFORE GETTING HOME. I TOOK MY CHANCES AND DROVE HOME TRYING TO BE AS CAREFUL AS POSSIBLE AS ONCOMING CARS FLASHED THEIR LIGHTS AT ME AND HONKED. MY SON WAS SCARED AND KEPT ASKING IF OTHER CARS WERE GOING TO HIT US OR IF THEY COULD SEE US. I TRIED TO STAY CALM FOR HIM, BUT TRUTHFULLY, I WAS SCARED STUPID. I'VE BEEN READING UP ON SIMILAR SITUATIONS LIKE THIS AND GM HAS GOT TO STEP UP AND FIX THIS PROBLEM. WHY SHOULD IT TAKE FOR SOMEONE TO LOOSE THEIR LIFE FOR GM TO TAKE NOTICE??? I'VE OWNED A 99 GRAND AM, 00 OLDSMOBILE ALERO & NOW THE THE 04 IMPALA. I THOUGHT THAT I HAD MOVED UP AND BOUGHT A REALLY GOOD CAR THAT I LOVED NOT A DEATH MACHINE. MY NEXT CAR MIGHT HAVE TO BE A NISSAN OR A TOYOTA. MY GRANDMA & MOM ONLY BUY TOYOTAS AND HAVE NEVER HAD THESE TYPES OF PROBLEMS. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING WELL BELOW 40 MPH, THE SPEEDOMETER READ 65 MPH. THE CONTACT TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT INSTEAD OF BEING DEFAULTED AT 0 MPH, THE SPEEDOMETER BEGAN AT 60 MPH. THE FAILURE OCCURRED EACH TIME THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED AND WOULD DISPLAY DIFFERENT SPEEDS. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER AND THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED THAT THERE WAS A FAILURE IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 11,400.

SPEEDOMETER FAILED AFTER APPROX. 60,000 MILES ON MY 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA LS. IT IS INACCURATE AND INCONSISTENT, OFTEN READING 30-60 MPH WHEN I AM STOPPED AT A LIGHT AND OFTEN READING OVER 90 MPH WHEN DRIVING BELOW 40 MPH. AT TIMES, THE NEEDLE JUMPS ERRATICALLY AND GETS STUCK OUTSIDE THE NORMAL RANGE, SUCH AS POINTING TO A GEAR INDICATOR ON THE DISPLAY RATHER THAN TO A SPEED ON THE DIAL. *TR
THE SPEEDOMETER DOESN'T WORK SOMETIMES. WHEN IT MOVES IT DOESN'T MOVE SMOOTHLY, BUT IT JERKS UP AND DOWN, OFTEN INDICATING AN INCORRECT SPEED. THE CAR HAS LOW MILES ON IT AND THE TCC SOLENOID AND ANOTHER SOLENOID REGULATING LINE PRESSURE IN THE TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED, REQUIRING REPLACEMENT. *TR
BEGAN NOTICING CLICKING IN STEERING DURING TURNS. MY 2004 HAD APPROXIMATELY 21,000 MILES ON IT AT THAT TIME. TOOK IT TO DEALER WHO TEST DROVE IT AND COMMENTED THAT CHEVROLET HAS HAD AN ON-GOING PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING SHAFT. A FIX WOULD COST OVER $300. I WROTE SEVERAL LETTERS TO GM ASKING WHY I WAS ASKED TO PAY FOR REPAIRS ON AN ITEM THEY SOLD KNOWING IT WAS DEFECTIVE. THEY EVENTUALLY OFFERED TO PAY HALF THE COST OF THE REPAIRS. I HAD IT REPAIRED BY THE DEALER AT A COST OF AROUND $140. AFTER DESCRIBING IT TO FRIENDS WHO ALSO OWNED CHEVY'S (TRUCKS) THEY COMMENTED THAT THEIRS WAS DOING THE SAME THING. MADE US WONDER WHY A RECALL WASN'T ORDERED.. *TR
WE PURCHASED OUR 2004 IMPALA NEW IN MAY OF 2004. THERE ARE CURRENTLY 56,000 MILES ON IT. THE SPEEDOMETER ACTS CRAZILY AND WE ALSO HAVE THE NOISE AND VIBRATION THE STEERING COLUMN. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THE STEERING SHAFT WILL COST AT LEAST $100 AND A NEW INSTRUMENT CLUSTER $300. THAT DOESN'T INCLUDE THE COST OF LABOR AND STATE SALES TAX! THESE DEFECTS NEED TO BE ADDRESSED . I AM ALMOST FEARFUL TO LET MY WIFE DRIVE THIS CAR. AFTER READING ALL THESE COMPLAINTS, I CAN'T BELIEVE THE GOVERNMENT IS FAILING THE AMERICAN CONSUMER TRYING TO BUY AMERICAN PRODUCTS. NO WONDER THE FOREIGN CAR COMPANIES ARE EATING DETROIT'S LUNCH! *TR
SPEEDOMETER IS NOT WORKING CORRECTLY (STICKS/DOESN'T MOVE). APPARENTLY THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE, BUT CHEVY HAS ISSUED NO RECALLS. *TR
TURN SIGNALS OPERATE INTERMITTENTLY WITH SWITCH IN EITHER POSITION. HAZARDS WORK FINE. YOU HAVE TO OPERATE HAZARDS TO GET TURN SIGNALS TO WORK. WHEN TURN SIGNALS ARE INOPERATIVE, THE DRIVER CANNOT USE THEM TO SIGNAL INTENT TO TURN THAT COULD RESULT IN A CRASH. *TR
COLLISION ON THE INTERSTATE. I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH WHEN I STRUCK THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. TRAFFIC WAS HEAVY AND THEY SLAMMED ON THEIR BRAKES. I HAD THE BRAKES ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR BUT THE CAR DID NOT STOP. THEIR CAR WAS COMPLETELY STOPPED WHEN I HIT THEM AND KNOCKED THEM INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. MY AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. BODY SHOP OWNER STATED THAT IT APPEARED THAT THE WIRES TO THE AIRBAG HAD BEEN SLICED DURING THE ACCIDENT. FRONT BUMPER, HOOD, AND FENDERS HAD TO BE REPLACED. RADIATOR AND CONDENSER HAD TO BE REPLACED. BODY OF THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE SQUARED. ROTORS AND BRAKES REPLACED. *TR
THERE WERE NO EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND THE SPEEDOMETER JUST STOPPED WORKING. THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD NOT SHOW THE CORRECT SPEED. THE NEEDLE WOULD POINT DIRECTLY DOWN (NOT AT 0) AND THEN MOVE COUNTER CLOCKWISE WHEN THE CAR ACCELERATED. *TR
THE TEMPERATURE WAS 10 BELOW ZERO AND MY HEATER BLOWER QUIT WORKING CAUSING ALL OF THE WINDOWS TO ICE UP ON THE INSIDE. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR HOME SAFELY. I CHECK THE FUSES, BUT COULD FIND NO BLOWN FUSES. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY (MONDAY) AND, THANKFULLY IT WAS REPAIRED UNDER MY G.M. EXTENDED WARRANTY AT NO COST TO ME. I HAD 69,560 MILES ON THE CAR AT THAT TIME. *TR
DRIVING HOME, SUDDENLY THE SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING AND PASSED 60 MPH AND WAS INCREASING WHILE I STARTED ACCELERATING FROM COMPLETE STOP. IT REACHED 110 MILES TILL MY NEXT STOP, WAS STUCK AT 110 AGAIN AND GOING UP AGAIN WHEN I STARTED ACCELERATING TILL THE ARROW WAS POINTING SOUTH AND STOPPED MOVING. *TR
SPEEDOMETER IS STUCK AT 55MPH WHILE CAR IS OFF. WHEN DRIVING THE SPEEDOMETER WILL READ 90MPH WHEN DRIVING 30 MPH. TEMPERATURE GAUGE WORKS SPORADICALLY. CALLED GM AND WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR IS NOT PART OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY (RECALL IN OTHER WORDS). I WAS TOLD TO CONTACT MY DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS (AT A COST OF OVER $500.00). MANY OTHER VEHICLES FROM THE SAME YEAR ARE COVERED. WE NEED TO KEEP THE PRESSURE ON THIS COMPANY. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING 54 MPH, THE SPEEDOMETER WORKED INTERMITTENTLY FOR TWO MONTHS UNTIL IT FINALLY FAILED. A FRIEND OF THE CONTACT, WHO OWNED THE SAME YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL VEHICLE, WAS EXPERIENCING THE SAME FAILURES. THE SPEEDOMETER HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, ALL OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL GAUGES STOPPED WORKING. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE HEATER UNIT SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. IN ADDITION, AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO START THE VEHICLE, IT FINALLY STARTED AND DROVE ROUGHLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE FAILURES WERE RELATED TO THE SECURITY SYSTEM IN THE CONTROL PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTIONS. RECENTLY, THE DRIVER MESSAGE CENTER AND HORN WERE NOT OPERATING, AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT RUNNING PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 27,000.
THE TACHOMETER, SPEEDOMETER AND THE TEMP GAGE ARE ALL OUT OF THE CAR STARTED IN THE WINTER OF THE YEAR THAT WE BOUGHT THE CAR AND SLOWLY ONE BY ONE EACH GAGE WENT OUT. *TR
THE SPEEDOMETER OF MY 2004 CHEVY IMPALA GOES OUT. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD IT WILL START CLIMBING EVEN THOUGH MY SPEED HAS NOT CHANGED. I MAY BE GOING 40 MPH BUT THE SPEEDOMETER READS 120 MPH! THE GAS GAUGE WILL ALSO READ WRONG AND MY TEMP GAUGE JUST PLAIN DOESN'T WORK. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER 2 YEARS NOW. GM SAYS IT'S NOT A RECALL ISSUE. IT CAN BE CORRECTED FOR AWHILE IF WE DISCONNECT AND RECONNECT THE BATTERY, BUT THE FIX IS SHORT LIVED. WE HAVE NOT YET HAD IT REPAIRED, THE COST IS OVER $400. WE PLAN ON HAVING IT FIXED SOON. MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH ON STEERING COLUM FAILED , AS A RESULT I HAVE NO HIGHBEAMS , IF I ATTEMPT TO PUT THEM ON ALL LIGHTS GO OUT , THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE PROBLEM THAT I THINK GENERAL MOTORS SHOULD COME GOOD FOR. *TR

JUST LAST WEEK, I WAS PULLED OVER FOR SPEEDING, THE COP LET ME OFF WITH A WARNING BUT SAID NEXT TIME, THAT EXCUSE WON'T CUT IT. THE PROBLEM WON'T FIX ITSELF, AND THE DEALERSHIP QUOTED AROUND $450.00 TO REPAIR THE SPEEDOMETER CLUSTER. I CAN'T AFFORD SUCH A COSTLY REPAIR WHEN I NEED TO BUY NEW TIRES. 2004 CHEVY IMPALA: THE SPEEDOMETER STEP SERVO MOTOR IS DEFECTIVE IN MY CAR. IT STARTED ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO GIVING FALSE READINGS. I FOUND OUT ONLINE THAT THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF THEM DOING THIS. THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE SAME STEP MOTORS USED ON OTHER CHEVY VEHICLES WERE ACTUALLY RECALLED. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION. I'M HAVING TO USE MY GPS FOR A SPEEDOMETER NOW, AND IT CAN BE HARD TO READ AT TIMES. WHY HASN'T CHEVROLET EXTENDED THE RECALL TO THE IMPALA'S AS WELL.THEY MUST BE HOPING THE CAR OWNERS WILL TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM IN THEIR VEHICLES FOR THEM? CAN YOU DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS? 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA. HEADLIGHTS SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING COMPLETELY WHILE BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY ONTO MY ROAD. WHILE I WAS ABLE TO PULL BACK INTO MY DRIVEWAY QUICKLY, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN ANOTHER STORY A MINUTE LATER WHEN I WOULD HAVE BEEN AT A BUSY INTERSECTION. BECAUSE THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT OR INJURIES, DOES NOT MAKE THIS ANY LESS OF A SERIOUS SAFETY RELATED FAILURE OF THIS VEHICLE. IF THE POLICE CAN TICKET YOU FOR NOT FIXING ONE HEADLIGHT WHEN IT FAILS, WHY WOULD THIS NOT BE A MORE SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM? I HAD THE VEHICLE IN TO THE GM DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY DETERMINED THAT THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH (ON THE STEERING COLUMN) HAD FAILED. IT WAS REPLACED AND IT COST ME $786.00 CANADIAN. MY WIFE TOLD ME THAT THE LIGHTS HAD GONE OUT A FEW WEEKS PRIOR TO THIS WHILE DRIVING HOME ONE NIGHT. THEY SUDDENLY WENT OUT FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN CAME BACK ON BY THEMSELVES. MY SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING IN MY 2004 CHEVY IMPALA OUT OF THE BLUE. IT IS STILL BROKEN AND WILL GIVE ME FALSE READINGS EVERY TIME I AM DRIVING. I CAN NO LONGER TELL HOW FAST I AM DRIVING. I HAVE DONE NOTHING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM BUT I DO KNOW OTHER CHEVY MODELS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
