2005 IMPALA ABOUT 7 MONTHS AGO THE HORN STARTED TO GET WEAKER AND WEAKER UNTIL IN THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS IT JUST QUIT. WHEN IT STARTED THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD AND PURCHASED NEW IT HAD 72K PLUS MILES TO DATE AT THE TIME THERE WERE APPROX 61K MILES ON THE VEHICLE. IN TEXAS PART OF THE STATE INSPECTION IS TO HAVE AN OPERABLE HORN, BOTH THE HORNS IN FRONT HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $325. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE MANUFACTURES WARRANTY DUE TO THE NUMBER OF MILES. BUT AGAIN FOR STATE INSPECTIONS THIS IS A SAFETY RELATED PART. *TR
SPEEDOMETER BEGAN LOSING SPEED, I.E. BEGAN DROPPING , WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON. NO LOSS OF ROAD SPEED NOTED, DIS-ENGAGED CRUISE CONTROL AND CONTINUED WITH FLOW OF TRAFFIC. SPEEDOMETER CONTINUED TO FALL EVENTUALLY REACHING 0 MPH. SPEEDOMETER BEGAN WORKING AGAIN AFTER SHUTTING VEHICLE OFF. CURRENTLY IT WILL BE VERY SLOW GETTING TO 0 MPH WHEN VEHICLE IS FULLY STOPPED. VERY ERRATIC OPERATION OVERALL. CONTACTED GM CUSTOMER CARE, THEY SAID IT SOUNDS LIKE A BAD SPEEDOMETER STEPPER MOTOR. INFORMED THAT IT IS NOT UNDER ANY RECALL. CURRENTLY NOT REPAIRED DUE TO HIGH COST OF REPLACEMENT. NOTE: VEHICLE IS A 2005 CHEVY IMPALA, OUT OF WARRANTY DUE TO MILEAGE (58,000). *TR
SPEEDOMETER RANDOMLY READS WAY TOO LOW OR TOO HIGH. *TR
SPEEDOMETER, GAS GAUGE, TACHOMETER, STOPPED WORKING @ 41,000 MILES. TACH WORKS ONCE IN A GREAT WHILE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AS YOU CAN'T TELL HOW FAST YOU ARE TRAVELING, AND YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH GAS YOU HAVE UNTIL THE GAS WARNING INDICATOR COMES ON. THIS PROBLEM WAS NOT CORRECTED YET. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 IMPALA SS, THE VEHICLE HAS STARTING PROBLEMS WHICH BEGAN AT 8,000 MILES. IF THE CAR SITS MORE THAN TWO DAYS WITHOUT BEING DRIVEN THE BATTERY GOES DEAD. THERE IS A SERIOUS ELECTRICAL DRAIN ON THE BATTERY. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERS SERVICE DEPARTMENT ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THEY TELL ME THAT THEY CAN FIND ANYTHING WRONG. AT ONE POINT THEY KEPT THE CAR FOR A WEEK, THEN TOLD ME THAT I MUST BE DOING SOMETHING WRONG BECAUSE THEY CAN FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE CAR NOW HAS 17,000 MILES, AND I CONTINUE TO STILL HAVE THE ELECTRICAL DRAIN. I HAVE HAD TO PURCHASE TWO NEW BATTERIES SINCE OWNING THE CAR. I HAVE TO CARRY A PORTABLE POWER SOURCE IN THE TRUNK, TO JUMP START THE VEHICLE. THIS IS NOT RIGHT AND SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING. THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEM SHOULD HAVE BEEN SOLVED BY NOW. I HAVE BEEN A LOYAL CHEVY OWNER FOR FIFTY YEARS, AND THIS IS THE WAY I'M REWARDED. THE MANUFACTURER AND THE DEALER STILL HAVE NOT LEARNED THAT PROFESSIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE IS PARAMOUNT. I MAY NEVER BUY ANOTHER GM CAR. *TR
THE SPEEDOMETER ON MY DAUGHTER'S 2005 CHEVROLET STOPPED WORKING AT 50'000 MI. WE CALLED CHEVROLET, BUT WERE TOLD SINCE THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR.(350 DOLLARS). I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. *CN
STARTED TO NOTICE "RUMBLING" AND CLICKING NOISES AS WELL AS VIBRATIONS IN THE STEERING WHEEL AS I MADE SLOW TURNS. CALLED THE LOCAL CHEVROLET SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND HE KNEW EXACTLY WHAT WAS WRONG FROM MY DESCRIPTION. HE SAYS IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE "UPPER INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT" ON SEVERAL CHEVY PRODUCTS, INCLUDING MY 2005 CHEVY IMPALA WITH 50,000 MILES ON IT. IT IS SO COMMON THE REPAIR PART IS ON NATIONAL BACKORDER. I AM GOING TO GET A REPAIR BILL OF AROUND $240. I FEEL THIS SHOULD BE A NATIONAL RECALL DUE TO THE "KNOWN" ISSUE BY CHEVY. IT IS NOT RIGHT NOW DUE TO THE FACT IT IS NOT CONSIDERED A SAFETY ISSUE, YET. I UNDERSTAND PARTS GOING BAD AND DO NOT EXPECT THE MANUFACTURER TO GUARANTEE NOTHING WILL EVER HAPPEN. BUT, WHEN THERE IS A KNOW DEFECT, WHY SHOULD I LEFT HOLDING THE $240 BILL??? THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD HAVE THIS AS A RECALL AND SHOULD REIMBURSE CUSTOMERS ACCORDINGLY. *TR
THERE WAS A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE WHENEVER I MADE A HARD TURN IN MY CAR - BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT, AS WELL AS A FEELING THAT THE STEERING COLUMN WAS LOOSE. ALSO, THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE WOULD MOVE BY TOUCH. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE STEERING COLUMN WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AND I WOULD HAVE TO HAVE NEW TIE RODS BECAUSE THEY WERE LOOSE. I WAS ALSO TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE IMPALA. WHY HAS A RECALL NOT BE INSTITUTED IF THE DEALER IS REPAIRING MORE THAN ONE INSTANCE OF THIS PROBLEM PER WEEK? *TR
SPEEDOMETER ON MY DAUGHTERS 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA STOPPED WORKING AFTER 50,000 MILES. CHEVROLET HAS REFUSED TO PAY FOR REPAIRS EVEN THOUGH THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY FOR TRUCKS AND SUVS WITH DEFECTIVE SPEEDOMETERS TO 70,000 MILES. I THINK CHEVROLET SHOULD PAY FOR REPAIRS TO ALL CHEVY OWNERS WITH DEFECTIVE SPEEDOMETERS, ESPECIALLY ON A VEHICLE ONLY TWO YEARS OLD. *TR
WHEN STARTING VEHICLE AND TURNING ON HEATER THERE IS A STRONG ODOR COMING FROM THE VENTS. I COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER AND NOTHING WAS EVER DONE. I AM AFRAID THAT IT WILL CATCH FIRE. *TR
MY COMPLAINT IS ABOUT A 2005 IMPALA. WHEN I START THE CAR IN THE MORNING AND I TURN ON THE HEAT I SMELL GASOLINE FUMES INSIDE THE CAR. I CALL GM AND I WAS DIRECTED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO SUPERIOR CHEVROLET. THEY TOLD ME THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE COOLANT. IT COST ME $90.00. SPEEDOMETER MALFUNCTIONS. SOMETIMES IT REGISTERS WRONG SPEED, SOMETIMES REGISTERS A SPEED EVEN THOUGH SITTING STILL. BEGAN AT ABOUT 55,000 MILES. DID RESEARCH AND FOUND TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM BUT NO RECALLS AND NO HELP WHATSOEVER FROM GM. *TR
THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ON MY 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA GOES HAYWIRE. THE SPEEDOMETER WILL NOT REGISTER CORRECTLY. WHEN I'M DRIVING, IT REGISTERS 0. SOMETIMES WHEN I AM DRIVING 25 MPH IT IS REGISTERING 120. MY GAS GAUGE ALSO REGISTERS EMPTY WHEN I HAVE JUST FILLED MY CAR WITH GAS. SEVERAL PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN MY COMMUNITY AND OWN THE SAME VEHICLE (2005 IMPALA) ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
WHEN SHIFTING 1ST TO 2ND GEAR THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS HARD, TRANSMISSION IS THE 2ND ONE I HAVE HAD IN THIS CAR SAMETHING IS HAPPENING TO THIS ONE I HAVE 95000 MILES NOW. *TR
PREMATURE FAILURE OF LEFT TIE ROD END. FAILED AT 28,000 MILES. *TR
I HAVE AN 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA WITH 45,000 MILES AND NIGHT TIME DRIVING IS VERY DIFFICULT AND SCARY AS THE HEADLIGHTS WILL GO OFF WITHOUT WARNING AND YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN. I HAVE HAD IT IN THE SHOP MULTIPLE TIMES AND THEY HAVE REPLACED PARTS AND STILL HAS NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM. NOW THE SPEEDOMETER HAS QUIT WORKING AND IS STUCK ON 140 MILES AN HOUR. *TR

I OWN AN 05 IMPALA WE HAVE HAD THE HEADLIGHT FAIL ON US ABOUT 6-12 TIMES WE WILL BE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE HEADLIGHTS WILL GO OUT I HAVE TRIED RUNNING WITH THE SWITCH ON AND THEY STILL GO OUT ITS HAS EVEN HAPPENED TO ME ON A CURVE I JUST ABOUT PUT THE CAR IN THE DITCH IVE ASKED MY DAD WITCH IS A GM CERTIFIED MECHANIC ABOUT IT AND THERE'S NOT A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT HE KNOWS OF I WOULD LIKE THIS FIXED BEFORE I DO GO IN THE DITCH AND MY FAMILY IS WITH OR I GET A CALL FROM THE COPS THAT MY WIFE HAS SMASHED THE CAR THERE IS A PROBLEM AND GM SHOULD HAVE TO FIX THE PROBLEM BEFORE SOME ONE IS KILLED FROM IT. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH IN THE RAIN, THE SPEEDOMETER DISPLAYED 125 MPH. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE REPAIR WOULD TAKE A COUPLE OF DAYS. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED FOR A FEW DAYS, THE SPEEDOMETER RESET ITSELF. HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN REPAIRED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 64,000.
WHILE DRIVING MY 2005 IMPALA LS WITH ONLY 38,000 MILES ON IT, THE SPEEDOMETER DROPPED TO ZERO THEN BACK TO WELL OVER THE LIMIT. LATELY IT IS ALL OVER THE PLACE. THE TACHOMETER IS DOING THE SAME. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD REPAIR IT BUT WOULD COST ME OVER $600.00. THESE THINGS ARE COVERED ON THE PICKUPS AND SUV'S TO 70,000 MILES BUT NOT THE CARS. WHY NOT??? IT'S ALMOST LIKE CHEVROLET CONSIDERS IT'S CAR OWNERS "NOT WORTHY". WHAT'S UP! CHEVROLET??? *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE VEHICLE OVERHEATED AND SHUT OFF. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN PARKED FOR ONE HOUR WHEN HE HEARD A LOUD BOOM. THE VEHICLE THEN CAUGHT FIRE. THE FIRE INSPECTOR STATED THAT THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. TWO OTHER VEHICLES PARKED NEXT TO THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE ALSO CAUGHT FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 64,035.
DEXCOOL COOLANT TURNS FROM ORANGE LIQUID TO BROWN CORROSIVE SLUDGE RESULTING IN A CLOGGED HEATER CORE/RADIATOR, WATER PUMP DAMAGE, ENGINE DAMAGE, GASKET AND HOSE DETERIORATION AND OTHER COSTLY REPAIRS. GM/CHEVRON/TEXACO INSIST ON KEEPING THIS CANCER IN YOUR CAR. MANY LAWSUITS ARE PENDING. BOYCOTT DEXCOOL!!!*JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHEN THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD GRINDING NOISE. WITHIN A YEAR, THE FAILURE PROGRESSIVELY WORSENED. THE TIRES WERE ROTATED AND THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE ROTORS HAD EXCESSIVE CORROSION AND RUST. THE DEALER STATED THAT BECAUSE THE VEHICLE EXCEEDED THE WARRANTY, HE WOULD HAVE TO ASSUME FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REPAIR. HE HAS NOT HAD THE ROTORS REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 54,000.
BRAKES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WITH ONLY 14,297 MILES CLAIMING IT WAS ENVIRONMENTAL NOT WORN BRAKES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A BUMPING SOUND WHEN SHE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL. SHE WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME. THE DEALER RESURFACED THE REAR DISC BRAKES AND ROTORS AND REMOVED AND INSTALLED THE FRONT AND REAR DISC PADS UPDATED 01/24/08 *BF. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 16,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 14,297. THE CONSUMER IS REQUESTING TO BE REIMBURSED $444.90 THE COST OF THE PART TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. UPDATED 01/24/08 *TR
HEATING AIR CONDITIONER CAR OVERHEATING. (IT HAPPENED BEFORE AROUND 15000-20000 MILES) 2ND OCCURRENCE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING 10-15 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE BATTERY WARNING INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE ENGINE STALLED AGAIN WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE, HOWEVER, THEY CHANGED THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE FAILURE STILL PERSISTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,100.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE GAUGES ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WORKED INTERMITTENTLY. THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD DROP TO ZERO AND THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE WOULD BECOME HOT. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FAILED. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 46,000. UPDATED 03/10/08. *LJ THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKETS LEAKED AS WELL.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA. ON JUNE 8, 2007, AT AN INTERSECTION, A VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE FRONT AND SIDE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE INSURANCE COMPANY HAS POSSESSION OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT AND THREE PASSENGERS WERE INJURED. THE CRASH INVOLVED THREE VEHICLES. THE CONTACT HAS PHOTOS AND A POLICE REPORT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 15,020.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE CONTACT SMELLS GASOLINE. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO RUN HOT AND LOSE POWER. IN ADDITION, THE THERMOSTAT BECAME VERY HOT. THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER SHUT OFF, BUT IT BEHAVES AS IF IT WILL AT ANY MOMENT. THE DEALER STATED THAT HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07E021000 (FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY:PRESSURE RELIEF DEVICES). WHILE DRIVING MY 2005 CHEVY IMPALA AFTER DARK THE HEADLIGHTS JUST WENT OUT. WAS DRIVING 55MPH DOWN THE HIGHWAY WITH MY WHOLE FAMILY WAS IN THE CAR. PULLED THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH IN AND OUT A FEW TIMES AND THEY CAME BACK ON. ABOUT ONE MILE LATER THE BOTH WENT OUT AGAIN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SECURITY ALARM INTERMITTENTLY RESTRICTED THE VEHICLE FROM BEING STARTED. HE NEVER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 7,800 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,900.
WHILE DRIVING IN RAIN, THE WARNING LIGHT FOR THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM CAME ON SHOWING IT WAS "OFF" AND PRESSING THE RESET BUTTON WOULD NOT MAKE IT COME BACK ON. ONE OF THE REAR SENSORS HAD FAILED, DISABLING THE TRACTION CONTROL AND ANTILOCK SYSTEMS. *TR
SPEEDOMETER AND FUEL GAUGE MALFUNCTION. SAME AS OTHER COMPLAINTS I'VE HEAR AND READ ABOUT. SPEEDOMETER AND FUEL GAUGE DO NOT WORK PROPERLY. A DRIVERS DISCUSSIONS BEHIND THE WHEEL CAN ONLY BE AS GOOD AS THE INFORMATION THAT IS DISPLAYED TO THE DRIVER. IF SPEED IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE, WHAT IS? *TR
DRIVING DOWN PAVED ROAD HEADLIGHTS WILL GO OUT SOMETIMES THEY WILL COME BACK ON AND SOMETIMES THEY WON'T. I ALSO HAVE REPORTED MY SPEEDOMETER SHOWING 80 OR 90 MPH WHEN I AM DRIVING AT NORMAL SPEEDS AND 40 OR 50 MPH WHEN COMPLETELY STOPPED - SOMETIMES IT WILL NOT WORK AT ALL. VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED DUE TO THE COST INVOLVED. ALSO HAVE HAD A PROBLEM WITH MY POWER STEERING PUMP AND A WHEEL HUB. HUB REPLACED AND PAID OUT OF POCKET AND IT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. PAID $600 TO REPLACE THE HUB. HAD TO REPLACE THE TIRES BECAUSE OF THAT DEFECT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH AT NIGHT THE HEADLIGHTS DIMMED WITHOUT WARNING. APPROXIMATELY FIFTEEN SECONDS LATER THE HEADLIGHTS ILLUMINATED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 40,595.*AK
LEFT REAR WHEEL SENSOR FAILED IN WET WEATHER, DISABLING THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM AND THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ON THE VEHICLE. SAME COMPONENT FAILED ON RIGHT REAR SEVERAL THOUSAND MILES EARLIER, IN JANUARY OF 2007. VERY EXPENSIVE PART TO REPLACE ($378.00) IN EACH CASE, PLUS LABOR. *TR
TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA LS. ON 03/30/07 WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH ON A CLEAR, DRY DAY THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT. THEY WERE ABLE TO PULL TO SIDE OF THE ROAD, AND RAISED THE VEHICLE TO CHANGE THE TIRE. THEY WERE ABLE TO PUT THE SPARE TIRE ON THE VEHICLE, AND WERE IN THE PROCESS OF PUTTING ON THE LUGS NUTS WHEN THE VEHICLE DROPPED FROM THE JACK, AND SNAPPED THE JACK ON BOTH ENDS. WHEN THE VEHICLE FELL, THE TIRE WELL HIT THE DRIVER ON THE HEAD AND SHOULDER CAUSING INJURY. THE SPARE TIRE CAME OFF AND KNOCKED THE DRIVER FORWARD. THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE ROTOR FELL ONTO THE PAVEMENT. SHE HAD TO CALL 911 FOR POLICE ASSISTANCE. THE STATE TROOPER RAISED THE VEHICLE WITH HIS JACK AND WAS ABLE TO CHANGE THE TIRE FOR THE CONTACT. I HAVE A 2005 CHEVY IMPALA IT HAS AROUND 44000 MILES. I HAVE HAD IT ABOUT ONE YEAR,ABOUT A MONTH AGO MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME AFTER DROPPING ME OFF IT WAS ABOUT 2 IN THE MORNING SHE WAS ABOUT 10 MILES FROM THE HOUSE AND THE HEAD LIGHT WENT OUT ON HER. BY THE LAST TIME THE BRAKES WERE FIXED, WARRANTY WAS OUT. BRAKES SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED FOR FREE DUE TO DEFECT IN ROTORS. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR THE STEERING WHEEL MADE LOUD NOISES. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER, AND WAS TOLD THAT THE STEERING PUMP FAILED, AND THE LINE HAD A SMALL LEAK. I HAD TO PAY $800 TO GET THE CAR FIXED. I WAS TOLD BY ONE OF THE TECHNICIANS THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THE IMPALA. *AK

HE ALSO FELT A VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THERE IS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (01-02-32001H) REGARDING THIS SAME FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COSTS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 37,500 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO MY SPEEDOMETER QUIT WORKING. I WOULD BE DRIVING AND IT WOULD REGISTER 100 MPH WHEN I WAS NOT GOING BUT ABOUT 30 MPH. AROUND THE SAME TIME MY HORN QUIT WORKING. WHEN I HONKED IT, IT WOULD SOUND FAINT UNTIL IT JUST QUIT. ALSO, WHEN I TRY TO PUT MY CAR IN GEAR IT IS REALLY HARD TO AT TIMES. WHEN IT DOES FINALLY GO INTO GEAR IT MAKES A REALLY LOUD THUD NOISE. INTERMITTENT WARNING "SERVICE TRACTION SYSTEM" WHICH SHUT OFF BOTH THE TRACTION SYSTEM AND THE FOUR WHEEL ABS SYSTEM (THE SAFETY ISSUE). REGULAR BRAKING STILL WORKED. DIAGNOSED AT THE SHOP AS A FAULTY RIGHT REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR, AND THE FAULT HAS APPARENTLY BEEN CORRECTED. *JB
I WAS COMING HOME FROM WORK AFTER A SNOW STORM, I HAD TURNED THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ON TO GET THE SNOW OFF SO I COULD SO. AS I TRIED TO TURN THE WIPERS TO THE OFF POSITION THEY WOULD NOT GO DOWN. THERE ARE TIMES WHEN I AM DRIVING AT NIGHT MY HEADLIGHTS WILL GO OUT. I USUALLY CAN GET THEM BACK ON. IT IS SCARY WHEN THIS HAPPENS. IT HAS HAPPENED IN RAIN STORMS AT NIGHT AND THERE IS ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I HAVE ALSO HAD A WHEEL HUB THAT HAS BEEN REPLACED WHEN MY CAR WAS ONLY 1.5 YEARS OLD. I WAS TOLD THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS AND I CAN'T FIND ONE. I HAD TO PAY TO REPLACE THE NEW PART ON A FAIRLY NEW CAR. I HAVE THE OLD PART IN MY TRUNK. *JB
