MY KEY IS STUCK IN THE IGNITION OF MY 2006 IMPALA. THE FIRST FEW TIMES I WAS ABLE TO SHIFT THE CAR OUT OF GEAR AND BACK TO PARK, WHILE TURNING THE KEY BACK AND FORTH AND THE KEY WOULD RELEASE. NOW THE KEY IS STUCK AND WILL NOT COME OUT OF THE IGNITION. SHIFTER IS STUCK IN PARK. IT STARTS JUST FINE AND GOES INTO GEAR BUT I JUST CAN'T SHUT IT OFF. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD ABNORMAL NOISE AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
POPPING SOUND IN STEERING, WHEN TURNING. *TR
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
AS I'M APPROACHING UP THE HIGHWAY 1/2 MILE FROM THE CAR THAT IS SLOWING DOWN AHEAD I TRIED TO PRESS IN MY BRAKES BUT MY CAR REFUSED TO STOP I TRIED TURNING MY WHILE OFF IT FAILED TO TURN. BASICALLY I WENT STRAIGHT IN THE BACK OF THE CAR. ITS LIKE THE CAR JUMP AS I APPROACH THE CAR AHEAD AS IF IT RESET ITSELF THEN APPROACH TO TURN AFTER HITTING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT ME IT WAS A VERY SCARED SITE TO EXPERIENCE. NO AIRBAG CAME OUT IT WAS JUST ME BRACING MYSELF AGAINST THE SEAT HOLDING ON THE WHEEL BRACING HOPING THE CAR STOPS. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO COME TO A STOP AFTER CRASHING THROUGH A MANHOLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 132,000.

THERE IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2006-2013 IMPALA REAR DEFROSTERS NOT WORKING. LOOK ON YOUTUBE AND YOU WILL SEE THE PROBLEM IS VERY EVIDENT. GM/CHEVY USED A SMALL BULKHEAD CONNECTOR FOR THE HIGH CURRENT DEFROSTER WIRES LOCATED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE KICK PLATE OF THE 2006-2013 IMPALA'S THAT BURNS OUT. THIS REALLY SHOULD BE A RECALL DUE TO A FIRE HAZARD. THE "HOW TO" FIX ON YOU TUBE LOOKS LIKE IT WILL WORK, BUT THIS REALLY SHOULD BE ADDRESSED AND FIXED BY GM. INEXPERIENCED MECHANICS TRYING TO FIX THIS MAY GET HURT, LET ALONE INCREASING THE ELECTRICAL/FIRE HAZARD BY IMPROPERLY "FIXING" THE PROBLEM. GM IS RECALLING THEIR VEHICLES FOR EVERYTHING ELSE SO WHY NOT FIX A KNOWN PROBLEM? SAD FOR PEOPLE IN WINTER CLIMATES NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE OUT THEIR REAR WINDOW DUE TO THIS SYSTEMIC PROBLEM ASSOCIATED WITH THE IMPALA. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR THE CAR SHUT OFF AND THE STEERING GOT STIFF. I WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL THE STEERING WHICH CAUSED ME TO RUN INTO A BRICK MAILBOX. *TR
SOMEONE EXITED THE VEHICLE'S REAR DRIVER SIDE. ONCE THE DOOR WAS SHUT I WAS NEVER ABLE TO OPEN AGAIN. *TR
PULLING OUT OF DRIVE TURNING LEFT LOST POWER STEERING COULD NOT STRAIGHTEN STEERING WHEEL AND HIT CURB. *TR
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN SHE WAS NOT ABLE TO STEER THE CAR. THE CAR ENTERED THE DITCH AND ROLLED. MY DAUGHTER WAS BANGED AND BRUISED UP BUT DID NOT REQUIRE GOING TO THE HOSPITAL. I THEN RECEIVE A RECALL NOTICE THAT THERE IS A FAULT IN THE IGNITION SYSTEM AND TO REMOVE ALL ITEMS FROM THE KEY RING. ALSO, THAT GM WAS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND DID NOTHING ABOUT IT. PRAISE THE LORD THAT MY DAUGHTER WAS NOT KILLED OR SERIOUSLY HURT BUT I AM OUT $6700 FOR THE CAR. I DID NOT HAVE FULL COVERAGE ON THE VEHICLE. I HAD LIABILITY AND COMPREHENSIVE BUT NOT COLLISION. *TR

I WAS ON THE FREEWAY GOING 60-65 MPH. MY CAR JUMPED OR I JUST FELT A CHANGE AND MY RPM NEEDLE MOVED. AS I TRIED TO PUSH IN THE GAS PEDAL THE RPM NEEDLE WOULD MOVE UP TO 4RPMS BUT MY SPEED WOULDN'T INCREASE IT WAS ALMOST AS IF I WAS DRIVING IN NEUTRAL I PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY JUST IN TIME FOR MY CAR TO STALL. I SAT THERE FOR ONLY A MINUTE AND STARTED IT AGAIN AND DROVE BACK HOME FINE TO MY COUSINS SHOP WHERE HE FOUND NOTHING WRONG, NO CODES FOUND AND THEIR WAS NEVER A CODE DISPLAYED ON THE DASH DURING THIS. MY TRANSMISSION FLUID WASN'T BURNED AND IT WAS CLEAR AND PINK. I'M FRUSTRATED BC THIS IS AN GM ISSUE AND THEY AREN'T DOING ANYTHING. I COULD OF BEEN HIT AND KILLED. MY DAD HAS A BLAZER THAT IS SITTING IN OUR DRIVEWAY FOR THE SAME ISSUE, THE GM DEALERSHIP AMONG A COUPLE OTHER PLACES CAN'T FIND OUT WHAT'S WRONG. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME AMONG OTHERS GET GM TO LOOK INTO OUR CARS AT LEAST FOR FREE. I WAS TURNING FROM ONE STREET ONTO ANOTHER AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE WAS A CLANKING NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE CAR AND THEN THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT ALONG WITH THE BRAKES AND MY ACCELERATION. I READ A LOT OF DASH FIRES FROM THE ELECTRICAL BOX ON DIFFERENT COMPLAINTS AND SOME THE DOOR LOCKS DO NOT WORK WHEN THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS BEGIN AND TRAPS YOU IN THE CAR !!! I WAS DRIVING 35MPH DOWN MY ROAD IN MY IMPALA. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND A TRACTION CONTROL/REDUCED ENGINE POWER MESSAGE CAME ON. THE CAR SUDDENLY SLOWED TO 20MPG AND I ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED. I WAS TOLD BY A MECHANIC THAT THIS IS A HUGELY POPULAR ISSUE WITH THIS CAR AND CHEVY REFUSES TO FIX IT. THIS IS DANGEROUS AS I ALMOST LOST CONTROL WHEN THIS HAPPENED. *TR

TRAFFIC LIGHT TURNED GREEN, ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE, NO FORWARD MOVEMENT. THE RPMS WOULD GO UP, BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE IN ANY GEAR INCLUDING REVERSE. CALLED ONSTAR AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED. THIS IS A '06 CHEVROLET IMPALA SS WITH 72,000 MILES DRIVEN. I HAD TO PAY FOR A 3K TRANSMISSION TO REPLACED THE FAILED ONE. I WAS INFORMED AFTER THE FAILURE THAT THIS IS AN EXTREMELY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE CHEVY LS4 ENGINE AND THIS TRANSMISSION. GM IS WELL AWARE OF THESE TRANSMISSION FAILURES, BUT REFUSES TO RECALL THEM. *TR
WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK TRAVELING AT A SPEED OF 70 MPH I SUDDENLY RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION OF REDUCED POWER AND TO SERVICE MY TRACTION CONTROL HAD THE PROBLEM DIAGNOSED AS A FAULTY ENGINE CONTROL MODULE STILL HAVING THIS PROBLEM. *TR

THE DOOR FAILED TO OPEN FROM INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. IN THE FALL 2010 I PURCHASED THE 2006 IMPALA WITH NEARLY 19,000 MILES ON IT. . FROM THE START I WAS HAVING PROBLEMS LOSING AIR WITH ONE OF THE TIRES, AND EACH TIME I TOOK IT IN, WAS TOLD IT WAS FIXED. AT THE BEGINNING OF 2013 I STARTED PUMPING AIR INTO THAT ONE TIRE EVERY 3,4, DAYS, AND THE GRINDING NOISE I HEARD SINCE APRIL OF 2013, ( AT WHICH TIME IT PASSED INSPECTION) PROGRESSED INTO NOT BEING ABLE TO STEER AT ALL. ON APRIL 4, 2014,(CAR INSPECTION TIME) I MANAGED TO BRING THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED FROM. AFTER SPENDING $921. FOR THE YEARLY NY STATE INSPECTION, FOUR NEW TIRED, THE PROBLEM WITH THE DEFLATING TIRE, THE POWER STEERING , I THOUGHT EVERYTHING IS "OK". NOT SO. AS I DROVE THE CAR HOME, I HEARD THIS LOUD HUMMING NOISE. I THOUGHT I PURCHASED SOME BAD TIRES??? SO I DROVE THE CAR A LITTLE LONGER, HOPING THE NOISE WILL SUBSIDE. NOT SO!!. SO, ON MAY 20, THIS YEAR 2014 I AGAIN TOOK THE IMPALA TO THE DEALERSHIP. AFTER REPLACING A FRONT WHEEL BEARING AND ANOTHER BILL FOR $526. I NEEDED TO TALK WITH ONE OF THE OWNERS. AT WHICH TIME I ALSO DISCUSSED THE STEERING WHEEL PROBLEM. HE GAVE ME ALL KINDS OF EXPLANATION..... AND REDUCED THE BILL TO $356.. AFTER INCURRING A TOTAL SUM OF 1,278. I DO NOT KNOW WHO TO BLAME. THE CAR MANUFACTURER???, THE DEALER???? OR MY LACK OF CAR KNOWLEDGE. I AM A SINGLE 75 YEAR OLD WOMAN, ON A VERY LIMITED SS INCOME WHO THOUGHT THIS CAR SHOULD LAST MY LIFETIME. I DROVE OTHER CARS BEFORE, AND NEVER EXPERIENCED SUCH HEARTACHE AS I DO NOW. AS OF TODAY 5/20/2014 THE MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE IS 43,882. I KEPT THIS CAR IN THE GARAGE, AS YOU CAN SEE BY THE MILEAGE, THIS SHOULD HAVE NOT HAPPEN. *TR
I'VE HAD AN ONGOING ISSUE SINCE THIS SPRING WITH AN ISSUE ON TRACTION CONTROL AND THE DISPLAY REPORTING 'REDUCED ENGINE POWER ". I'VE NOW HAD THE THROTTLE BODY SENSOR AND POWER TRAIN COMPUTER MODULE REPLACED. I'LL BE DRIVING AT A RATE OF SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY OF APX 60MPH AND THEN THESE ERROR MESSAGES APPEAR AND THE CRUISE KICKS OFF. THERE'S HESITATION AS I TRY TO ACCELERATE. *JS
TRANSMISSION SLIPPING IN AND OUT WHILE IN OVERDRIVE. 2ND TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT ON THIS VEHICLE IN LESS THAN 100,000 MILES.
MY 2006 CHEVROLET IMPALA IS EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM, AS WELL AS THE REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM. BOTH SYSTEMS USE THE SAME ANTENNA IN THE VEHICLE, AND THE MODULE CONTROLLING EACH SYSTEM IS DEFECTIVE. MANY TIMES A DAY WHILE DRIVING, AN ALERT WILL APPEAR SAYING "SERVICE TIRE MONITORING SYSTEM" AND I WILL LOSE READINGS OF MY TIRE PRESSURES. MANDATED IN 2005, TPMS SYSTEMS ARE AS IMPORTANT AS AIR BAGS AND SEAT BELTS IN VEHICLES, SO THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. I RECENTLY HAD A FLAT TIRE THAT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A BLOWOUT ON THE EXPRESSWAY HAD I NOT VISUALLY CHECKED THE TIRE BECAUSE THE TPMS SYSTEM WAS NOT WORKING CORRECTLY. I HAVE FOUND A SERVICE BULLETIN REGARDING THE ISSUE WITH A DOCUMENT ID OF 1990156. I HAVE CONTACTED GM ABOUT THE ISSUE AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NO LONGER COVERED BY THE ORIGINAL VEHICLE WARRANTY AND A SERVICE BULLETIN IS NOT ENOUGH FOR THEM TO REPLACE THE EQUIPMENT WITHOUT CHARGING MYSELF, THE CONSUMER. THIS SAFETY ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BECAUSE THESE SYSTEMS ARE IN PLACE TO INCREASE THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE AND THEY ARE NOT SERVING THAT PURPOSE DUE TO POOR DESIGN RIGHT OUT OF THE FACTORY. IN ADDITION TO THE FAILURE OF THE TPMS SYSTEM, THE DEFECT ALSO MAKES THE REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM USELESS DUE TO EXTREMELY POOR RANGE (~2 FEET). THE DASH IN MY IMPALA CRACKED SUDDENLY A FEW MONTHS AGO. I DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS AN ISSUE IN CHEVROLET VEHICLES UNTIL I SAW A REPORT. ALSO, MY HEATER DOES NOT ACTUALLY BLOW HEAT UNLESS I AM ACCELERATING! IT IS SUCH AN INCONVENIENCE DURING THIS TIME OF YEAR B/C WHEN IT'S COLD OUTSIDE & I HAVE TO SLOW DOWN OR STOP AT A RED LIGHT OR STOP SIGN, THE CAR GETS COLD INSIDE! LASTLY, WHEN THE TEMPERATURE IS CHANGED FROM HOT TO COLD OR IF THE FAN IS SET TO CIRCULATE OVER THE ENTIRE CAR, IT STARTS MAKING A KNOCKING NOISE FOR ABOUT 30-60 SECONDS. GOING 55 MPH CAR SUDDENLY DROPPED TO 35 MPH ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED BY CARS BEHIND ME. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE MESSAGE REDUCED ENGINE POWER APPEARED AND MY SPEED DROPPED DOWN TO 30 MPH. IT WAS RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC AND I PANICKED. AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE I CAME ACROSS THE EDMUNDS FORUM WHERE HUNDREDS OF GM OWNERS HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM ! I'VE BEEN EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY 2006 IMPALA OFF AND ON FOR THE LAST YEAR, MAYBE MORE. THE CAR WILL RANDOMLY GIVE ME AN ERROR OF "ENGINE POWER REDUCED." THE CAR SLOWS TO A CRAWL, HAS NO ACCELERATION, THE ENGINE SHAKES AND IT SPUTTERS UNTIL THE ENGINE IS TURNED OFF. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC WHO SAID IT WAS THE TPS SENSOR. HE REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY. THE CAR RAN FINE FOR A FEW MONTHS AND THEN IT STARTED AGAIN. SINCE I WAS GETTING THE SAME CODES, I TOOK IT BACK TO THE MECHANIC WHO INFORMED ME THAT IT COULD BE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM OR IT COULD HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY MY BATTERY, BUT THERE'S NO WAY TO TELL FOR SURE WITHOUT TROUBLESHOOTING. I HAVE SINCE BEEN TO SEVERAL MECHANICS, ALL WHO SAY THE CODES POINT TO THE THROTTLE BODY, BUT THEY ALSO AGREE THAT I SHOULDN'T BE GETTING THESE CODES SO QUICKLY AFTER REPLACING THE UNIT - WHICH COST OVER $300. I'M A SINGLE MOTHER WHO WORKS AND GOES TO GRADUATE SCHOOL FULL TIME. I DON'T HAVE THE RESOURCES TO CARELESSLY DUMP MONEY INTO A CAR. I'VE PUT UP WITH IT BECAUSE I CAN USUALLY PULL OVER, TURN THE ENGINE OFF, WAIT A MINUTE AND IT WILL CRANK BACK UP; HOWEVER, IT HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. LAST NIGHT, I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE WHEN THE CONSOLE READ "STARTING DISABLED SERVICE THROTTLE." THE ENGINE THEN SHUT OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND LEFT ME STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF A DARK HIGHWAY, ALONE, WITH A CAR FULL OF GROCERIES AND A SON WHO WAS WAITING ON HIS MOM TO GET HOME TO PUT HIM TO BED. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ON A ROAD WITHOUT A LOT OF OTHER CARS AROUND OR IT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH MORE DANGEROUS. I'VE DONE A LOT OF RESEARCH AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH GM CARS. AN INTERNET SEARCH WILL REVEAL THE SAME SYMPTOMS AND THE SAME RESULTS FROM DEALERS, ALL WITHOUT A PERMANENT FIX.
