AIR BAG SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON DASHBOARD OF 2006 CHEVROLET IMPALA. IN ADDITION TO THE RED WARNING LIGHT INDICATING THE AIR BAG PROBLEM, MESSAGE APPEARS IN MESSAGE CENTER ON DASHBOARD, SAYING TO SERVICE AIR BAG. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT THE DEALERSHIP SAYS IT MIGHT BE CLOSE TO $1000 TO FIX, YET AIRBAGS ARE SUPPOSED TO LAST THE LIFE OF A CAR. YET, IT WILL PASS INSPECTION IF I CHOSE TO NOT GET IT LOOKED AT. I SEE HUNDREDS OF OTHER CASES WHERE GM CARS HAVE THE SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT ON, AND IT SHOULD BE COVERED BY WARRANTY OR A RECALL TO GET THIS ISSUE FIXED. PEOPLE ARE JEOPARDIZING THEIR SAFETY, DRIVING AROUND WITH AN AIR BAG THAT MAY OR MAY NOT WORK. IT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. *TR
IMPALA "SS" WITH ONLY APPROXIMATELY 71,000 MILES, MAJOR TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION / FAILURE WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNING. VEHICLE HAD ONLY BEEN SERVICED AT GM DEALERSHIP SINCE PURCHASED, ALL REGULAR MAINTENANCE FOLLOWED. TRANSMISSION SLIPPAGE COMBINED WITH HARSH SHIFTING, TORQUE CONVERTER SHUDDER, GRINDING NOISES FROM GEARS. VEHICLE WOULD ALTERNATE BETWEEN NOT GOING FORWARD OR, ONCE MOVING, VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP VEHICLE BECAUSE TRANSMISSION DID NOT DISENGAGE (NEARLY REAR ENDED OTHER VEHICLES, HAD TO STAND ON BRAKE PEDAL). NO WARNING LIGHTS NOR DASH INDICATORS, BUT REMOTE DIAGNOSTIC VIA ONSTAR CONFIRMED TRANSMISSION FAILURE AND DIRECTED FOR IMMEDIATE REPAIR. VALVE BODY, PRESSURE REGULAR, ALL SOLENOIDS (REBUILD) REPLACED UNDER GMPP EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE. NOT EVEN TWO WEEKS LATER, PROBLEMS RETURNED BUT WORSE. NHTSA CAMPAIGN # 10021844 AND TSB # 070730012C SEEM TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. VEHICLE NOW AT GM DEALERSHIP BEING ASSESSED. ONSTAR DIAGNOSTICS FOUND NO ISSUE. STILL NO WARNING INDICATORS, BUT VEHICLE HAVE HIGH RPM WITHOUT ANY FORWARD MOTION WHEN ACCELERATOR DEPRESSED. RPMS WOULD ALSO BOUNCE UP AND DOWN ERRATICALLY ON HIGHWAY AT STEADY SPEED, VIBRATIONS AND WHINING NOISES FROM TRANSMISSION. APPARENTLY THIS IS KNOWN DEFECT WITH MULTIPLE VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE 4T65-E TRANSMISSION, BUT THERE HAS NEVER BEEN ANY RECALL. COST OF REPAIRS FOR THIS BETWEEN $4,000 AND $6,000 IF NOT UNDER WARRANTY. THIS LIKELY EFFECTS HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF GM VEHICLES COVERING MANY MODEL YEARS. *TR
DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND THE POWER STEERING FUEL LINE BROKE. POWER STEERING IS CURRENTLY INOPERABLE. CURRENTLY RESEARCHING A SOLUTION TO THE ISSUE. *TR
MY 2006 CHEVROLET IMPALA WITH 37000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER HAS HAD A CRACKING NOISE IN THE STEERING LIKE YOU WOULD GET IF THERE WAS A LOOSE CONNECTION IN THE STEERING MECHANISM. IT IS NOTICED MORE AT VERY SLOW SPEEDS THEN AT FAST SPEED. IT IS ALSO QUITE NOTICEABLE IF YOU ARE JUST CREEPING ALONG AND TAPPING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THIS SITUATION HAS BEEN PRESENT FOR THE LAST NINE MONTHS. I HAVE NOT HAD A DEALER LOOK AT THIS PROBLEM. THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN IN A ACCIDENT DURING THIS TIME NOR HAS THERE BEEN AN INJURY DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. AFTER READING OTHER REPORTS CONCERNING THE 2006 IMPALA STEERING. I STRONGLY FEEL THAT RECALL SHOULD BE IN ORDER. *TR
SERVICE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS COME ON AND FRONT WHEEL GRABS WHILE VEHICLE IS MOVING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET IMPALA SUPER SPORT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED NUMEROUS TIMES UPON HITTING A BUMP IN THE ROAD OR UNLEVELED LAND. THE VEHICLE WAS MERGED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHEN HE WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO WAS NOT ABLE TO NEITHER DUPLICATE NOR DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 14V355000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE VEHICLE WAS TO BE INSPECTED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
ON A 2006 CHEVY IMPALA, THE AIR BAG INDICATOR LIGHT ON DASHBOARD CAME ON AND REMAINED ON. CAR WAS TAKEN TO CHEVROLET DEALER WHO SAID IT WOULD BE QUITE EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR, SO LETTING IT GO. RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET REVEALS THIS PROBLEM. ALSO SAW A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN RELATED TO CODES RELATING TO AIR BAG LIGHT REMAINING ON. DANGER HERE IS THAT THIS SHOULD BE FIXED BY CHEVROLET WITH A RECALL, BUT NO RECALL AS OF YET. THIS DEFECT SHOULD BE FIXED BY CHEVROLET. SOMEONE IS GOING TO DIE BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE NOT BEING RECALLED BY CHEVROLET. *TR
POWER STEERING COOLING LINE HAS RUPTURED 4 TIMES. REPAIRED BY RECALL AND FAILED AGAIN 1 YEAR LATER. GM REFUSES TO REPAIR OR ADMIT PROBLEM WITH SYSTEM. 4" RUBBER HOSE CONTINUES TO RUPTURE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS A WIRE THAT CONNECTED TO THE SHIFT SOLENOID. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT STATED THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE VIN. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 109,000.
2006 CHEVY SS IMPALA STARTED HAVING ISSUES WITH THE DASH BOARD READINGS, THE CAR WOULD NOT START BECAUSE IT WOULD SHOW THE CAR WAS IN DRIVE WHEN IT WAS NOT, THERE WAS NO READINGS FOR THE SPEED, ALL ELECTRICAL READINGS WERE OUT OF CONTROL, FINALLY THE ABS WOULD NOT WORK AND THEN THE CAR WOULD NOT START AT ALL AND HAD TO BE TOWED IN. THE ABS MODULE AT ONLY 75,000 MILES HAD TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY CHEVY, THE REPAIR NEEDED PUT ME IN A SERIOUS DRIVING SAFETY CONCERN AND CHEVY SHOULD NOT SAY SORRY THIS IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND WE CAN'T DO ANYTHING FOR YOU. *TR
CAR STARTED RUNNING SLUGGISH MORE AND MORE UNTIL THE TRANSMISSION DIED AND NEEDS A REBUILD. TAKEN TO A SHOP TO GET IT REBUILT. *TR

THE CONTACT STATE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09E005000 (STEERING) AND THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED THE DAY AFTER THE REPAIRS. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE CONTINUED TO HAVE ISSUES WITH THE STEERING. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD SHE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TO DETERMINE THE EXACT FAILURE. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COSTS AND ALSO STATED THAT THE STEERING CONTINUED TO BECOME TIGHT AND RESISTANT WHEN ATTEMPTING A TURN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000. UPDATED 06/01/11*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE RACK AND PINION AND POWER STEERING HOSE NEEDED TO REPLACED. THE DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR WILL NO LONGER STAY UP AND FALLS DOWN OBSTRUCTING FORWARD VISION. I'VE GONE ON THE INTERNET AND THIS IS A SOMEWHAT COMMON OCCURRENCE ON THE IMPALA. GM HAS NO REPAIR FOR IT OTHER THAN REPLACEMENT. A NEW VISOR COSTS 125.00 PLUS INSTALLATION. I THINK IT SHOULD BE A RECALL BASED ON SAFETY.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN SHE ATTEMPTED TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL EITHER TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT SHE HEARD AN UNUSUAL POPPING AND CLICKING NOISE, THEN IT WOULD VIOLENTLY JERK. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT CONTACT THAT IT COULD BE THE STEERING SHAFT AND SHE WAS AWAITING A SERVICE APPOINTMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT AWARE OF THE FAILURE. NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 87,000. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000.
PURCHASED THE 2006 CHEVY IMPALA 3.9L WITH ABOUT 30,000 MILES. AT AROUND 60,000 MILES I STARTED TO NOTICE THE TRANSMISSION SLIP, MAYBE HAPPENED ONCE EVERY 20 TRIPS. AT AROUND 70,000 MILES IT STARTED HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY, ONCE OR TWICE A WEEK. HAD THE CAR LOOKED AT BY A MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD NO ISSUE WAS FOUND. NOW AT 75,000 MILES AND IT HAPPENS MULTIPLE TIMES ALMOST EVERY TRIP I TAKE WITH MY CAR. IT OCCURS AFTER SHIFTING FROM PARK INTO DRIVE THEN PULLING OFF OR WHEN PULLING OFF FROM A RED LIGHT OR STOP SIGN. ENGINE REVS, CAR HESITATES FOR 2-4 SECONDS THEN SLIPS REAL HARD INTO GEAR. I HAVE READ IN NUMEROUS FORUMS THAT GM TECH SAY THIS IS NORMAL BEHAVIOR FOR THIS TRANSMISSION, AND NUMEROUS PEOPLE HAVING THEIR TRANSMISSIONS REPLACED ONLY TO HAVE THIS ISSUE RECUR. THIS ISSUE ALMOST RESULTED IN CRASH ONCE WHEN ENTERING A 40MPH ZONE FROM A STOP SIGN, AS AFTER STOPPING AND TAKING MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND APPLYING THE GAS, THE VEHICLE BEGAN ROLLING ONTO THE 40MPH ZONE AND ENCOUNTERED A 6-7 SECOND DELAY BEFORE SLIPPING INTO GEAR AND ACCELERATING, CAUSING THE APPROACHING VEHICLE TO HAVE TO APPLY ITS BRAKE ABRUPTLY TO PREVENT A COLLISION. AT THIS POINT THE SLIPPING IS BECOMING A REAL ISSUE AS I NOW HAVE A TODDLER IN MY VEHICLE AND DO NOT WANT TO RISK ANY NECK OR OTHER INJURIES DUE TO THE JERKING OF THE VEHICLE WHEN IT SLIPS INTO GEAR. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER BUT THE TECHNICIANS COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A VEHICLE REPAIR CENTER WHERE THE FAILURE WAS DIAGNOSED AS THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT FOR THE STEERING COLUMN. THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT WAS REPLACED. THE DEALER WAS CALLED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE STEERING COLUMN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CALLED WHO CONFIRMED THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND PROVIDED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,990.
DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW SHATTERED. I WAS ROLLING UP THE WINDOW. I HEARD A LOUD BOOM SOUND WHICH SCARED ME. THE WINDOW COMPLETELY STOPPED. THEN EVENTUALLY IT FELL INSIDE DOOR FRAME AND THE WINDOW SHATTERED. *TR
TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN REBUILT ONCE, THEN SUBSEQUENTLY REPLACED WITH A REMANUFACTURED UNIT FROM GENERAL MOTORS. THIS REMANUFACTURED TRANSMISSION IS NOW DISPLAYING ANOMALOUS BEHAVIOR. PRIOR TO EACH FAILURE, THE TRANSMISSION EXHIBITED A VARIETY OF INCORRECT BEHAVIOR, INCLUDING RAPID TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH LOCKING AND UNLOCKING, SLIPPING AND REVVING FROM A STOP, WITHOUT THE CAR MOVING, THEN SUDDENLY SLAMMING INTO GEAR WITH THE CAR MOVING AWAY FROM REST. THE MOST RECENT ISSUE HAS BEEN AN OSCILLATION ON 4-3 DOWNSHIFTS AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, AS WELL AS EXCESSIVE TRANSMISSION HEAT BUILD-UP WITH THE TORQUE CONVERTER UNLOCKED. THE FIRST TIME THE TRANSMISSION DISPLAYED ODD BEHAVIOR, WHICH WAS TORQUE CONVERTER LOCK AND UNLOCK AT CRUISING SPEEDS, DEALER DROVE THE CAR ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM, AND UPON DISASSEMBLY, FOUND TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH MATERIAL IN THE PAN. THEY REBUILT THE TRANSMISSION WITH NEW SOFT PARTS AND REPLACED THE CONVERTER. VEHICLE HAD 59,000 AND THIS WAS ALL PERFORMED UNDER WARRANTY. ABOUT 23,000 MILES LATER, WHEN PULLING AWAY FROM A STOP, THE ENGINE WOULD REV UP MOMENTARILY, BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. IT WOULD THEN SLAM INTO GEAR AND MOVE OFF. DEALER CONFIRMED ISSUE, DISASSEMBLED, AND DETERMINED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH HAD AGAIN FAILED. DEALER REPLACED TRANSMISSION WITH A REMANUFACTURED UNIT. THIS WAS ALL DONE UNDER WARRANTY. VEHICLE HAD APPROXIMATELY 86000 MILES AT THIS TIME. IMMEDIATELY UPON RECEIVING CAR BACK AFTER REPLACEMENT OF TRANSMISSION, NOTED OSCILLATION ON 4-3 DOWNSHIFTS, AS WELL AS MUCH HIGHER TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURES WITH CONVERTER UNLOCKED (ABOUT 40 DEGREES HIGHER), AS WELL AS EXCESSIVE LOOSENESS OF THE TORQUE CONVERTER. RETURNED TO DEALER, WHO CLAIMED ALL WAS NORMAL. SINCE THAT TIME, WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. THE OSCILLATION AND HEAT ISSUES HAVE WORSENED, AND THE CAR IS NOW BEING SERVICED AT AN INDEPENDENT SHOP AND HAVING A PARTIAL REBUILD. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET IMPALA LT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT MALFUNCTIONED AND WOULD NOT BUCKLE ANY MORE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 62,000.
IN THE FALL OF 2010, I TOOK MY 2006 CHEVY IMPALA SS TO A CHEVY DEALER FOR AN OIL CHANGE. WHILE WAITING FOR MY VEHICLE, I WAS ADVISED BY THE MECHANIC I SHOULD HAVE THE TRANSMISSION FLUSHED. I QUESTIONED HIM BECAUSE THERE WAS ONLY 60K MILES ON THE CAR, ALSO, HAD NOT NOTICED ANYTHING WHILE DRIVING THAT WOULD INDICATE THAT BEING NEEDED. I HAD THE FLUSH DONE ANYWAY, AND, SINCE THEN, THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN SLIPPING FROM A COMPLETE STOP. IT WASN'T BAD AT FIRST, ONLY HAPPENED ONCE IN A GREAT WHILE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE SAME SHOP THAT FLUSHED THE TRANSMISSION TO CHECK ON IT, ONLY TO HAVE THEM TELL ME THERE WAS NO PROBLEM AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I NOW HAVE 80K MILES ON THE CAR AND THE PROBLEM IS GETTING WORSE, THE SLIP HAPPENS ALMOST EVERY TIME I ACCELERATE FROM A DEAD STOP AND I ALSO FEEL TORQUE SHUDDER WHILE AT HIGHER SPEEDS. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE. I AM DRIVING THE CAR BUT AM VERY NERVOUS DOING SO. I FEEL THIS CAN BE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE NOT KNOWING WHEN THE TRANSMISSION WILL ENGAGE OR DISENGAGE. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WIRING TO THE DEFROST ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WAS BURNT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE FUSE LINK AND CONNECTORS. I GOT MY CAR MARCH 2006 RAN SMOOTH FOR TWO YEARS THEN PROBLEMS STARTED. FIRST MY DRIVER SIDE WINDOW FELL . NEXT WHEN I TURN ON MY HEAT OR A.C LOUD TAPPING SOUNDS OCCUR FOR ABOUT 5MINS. THIRD WHEN I TURN MY STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT IT MAKE A POPPING SOUND. AND THE WORST OF ALL MY TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING. EVERYONE I KNOW WITH CHEVY IMPALA ARE HAVING SOME OF THE SAME PROBLEMS. SOMETHING NEED TO BE DONE!!!! *TR
THE HEAT HAS NEVER WORKED CORRECTLY UNLESS YOU ARE ACCELERATING. THE VEHICLE CAN BE WARMED UP AND HEATING, BUT IF ITS PUT INTO IDLE OR AT A STOP IT BEGINS TO BLOW COOL. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THERE IS AN AIR POCKET THAT HAS TO BE BLED OUT BECAUSE THERE IS A BAD DESIGN WHERE THE HOSES ARE ABOVE THE BLOCK AND THEY GET CLOGGED UP. I HAVE HAD IT BLED AND IT WORKED BUT NOW HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM COME BACK. *TR

I HAVE COMPLETE NOTES ON DATES, NAMES (HOWEVER IT'S GM'S POLICY NOT TO GIVE LAST NAMES), I BELIEVE THESE ARE ALL MANUFACTURER DEFECTS AND DON'T TRUST THE CAR ANYMORE. I'VE PUT MAJOR MONEY INTO REPAIRS TO DATE AND NOW GM WANTS TO ONLY COVER 50% OF THIS LATEST HEAD GASKET PROBLEM, THAT DOESN'T INCLUDE THE OTHER PROBLEMS. I THINK THEY SHOULD ADMIT MANUFACTURER DEFECTS AND BUY BACK MY CAR, PAY OFF THE REMAINDER OF THE LOAN AND THEN I CAN BUY A CAR THAT WILL KEEP ME AND MY FAMILY SAFE. FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000. THIS CAR HAS BEEN BABIED EVER SINCE NEW AND WITH TOP NOTCH SERVICE PERFORMED REGULARLY. BESIDES THIS PROBLEM THE TIRE AIR SENSORS ARE ALSO A JOKE REPLACED TWO OF THEM AT AROUND $70.00 EACH. STILL DON'T WORK PROPERLY. SUNROOF EXPLODED. SEVERAL YEARS AGO, I WAS DRIVING ON A SUNNY DAY, AROUND 70 DEGREES. IT WAS A 2-LANE HIGHWAY, AND THERE WERE NO VEHICLES NEARBY IN EITHER DIRECTION, NO TREES NEAR THE HIGHWAY, AND THE ROADWAY WAS CLEAR. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 55-60 MPH. THERE WAS A SUDDEN LOUD CRACKING SOUND, AND SEVERAL SECONDS LATER A LOUDER BANG. I STOPPED AND FOUND THE SUNROOF WAS IN TINY PIECES. FORTUNATELY, THE INSIDE COVER WAS CLOSED, SO THE AMOUNT OF GLASS COMING INTO THE CAR WAS FAIRLY SMALL. I NO LONGER OWN THIS CAR. I'M NOT LOOKING FOR ANY KIND OF HELP ON THIS.
