TRAVELING DOWN FM 247 SOUTH IN HUNTSVILLE, TX. @ POSTED SPEED OF 60 MPH AROUND THE TIME OF ABOUT 1:10 PM, WHEN MY REAR TIRES INVOLUNTARILY SWERVED CAUSING MY VEHICLE TO STEER CROSS LANES AND CRASH OFF ROAD ONTO GRASSY AND WOODED SHOULDER. CRASHED INTO DEBRIS INCLUDING TREES LIMBS, STUMPS. CRASH CAUSED PERSONAL INJURY AND DAMAGE TO VEHICLE. *TR THE CONSUMER STATED GM WAS WELL AWARE THAT THE CHEVROLET IMPALA'S WERE WITHIN THE RECALLED VIN BREAKPOINT. THEY WERE EQUIPPED WITH AN IDENTICAL FRAME, CHASSIS, SUSPENSION, SPINDLE RODS AS THE POLICE PACKAGE LISTED FOR THE RECALL. UPDATED 08/09/12 UPDATED 08/14/12 THE CONSUMER IS REQUESTING NHTSA POLICY WHEN AN AUTO MANUFACTURER IS TO FILE A RECALL WITH THE PUBLIC. UPDATED 05/08/14
HAD CLUNK NOISE COMING FROM REAR SUSPENSION WHEN GOING OVER EVEN THE SMALLEST BUMP OR CRACK IN THE ROAD. TOOK BACK TO DEALER AND THEY FOUND THE CROSS MEMBERS OF THE CHASSIS - BOLTS HAD WORKED LOOSE. THEY TIGHTENED THEM. NO MORE NOISE SO FAR. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE FROM A STOP LIGHT OR STOP SIGN, THE TIRES SPUN OUT AND THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR ROUTINE REPAIRS WHEN SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT WAS DEFECTIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. DUE TO THE DEFECT FOUR TIRES HAD TO BE REPLACED WITH NEW TIRES AND A WHEEL ALIGNMENT PERFORMED. THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN, NUMBER 01-02- 32-00101 (STEERING); ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA ITEM NUMBER 618086. THE CONTACT HAD SIGNIFICANT CONCERN OF THE POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,717.
WE BOUGHT OUR 2007 CHEVROLET IMPALA 3LT NEW IN FEBRUARY 2007. THE CAR JUST TURNED OVER 50,000 MILES. AT 38,000, WE NOTICED THE PASSENGER SEAT HEATING ELEMENT QUIT WORKING. CHEVY DEALER ESTIMATES THE COST OF REPAIRS AT ABOUT $200. AT 48,000 THE SHIFTER RELEASE SWITCH STOPPED WORKING, SO THE SHIFTER COULD NOT BE MOVED FROM THE PARK POSITION. CHEVY DEALER SAID A WIRE BROKE IN THE CENTER CONSOLE AND REPAIRS WERE $137. FROM ABOUT 45,000 MILES TO PRESENT, THE TRANSMISSION OCCASIONALLY SLIPS WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP AT AN INTERSECTION. THE ENGINE REVS FOR ABOUT A SECOND OR TWO BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGES. THE CHEVY DEALER HAS HAD THE CAR IN TWICE FOR THIS PROBLEM, THE SECOND TIME FOR MORE THAN A WEEK, AND WE'RE TOLD IT DOESN'T HAPPEN IN THE SHOP. THE SLIP HAPPENS ABOUT ONCE EVERY TWO DAYS THAT WE NOTICE. NOW, AT 50,100 MILES, THE EXHAUST HAS GOTTEN LOUDER AND A REPAIR SHOP SAID THERE'S A CRACK ON THE TOP OF THE LEFT MUFFLER. THE CHEVY DEALER SAYS IT'S NOT IN WARRANTY, AND THE JOB WILL COST $1,152. AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP SAYS THE MUFFLER CAN BE REPLACED FOR $160. *TR
I WAS A SEATED DRIVER DRIVING TO WORK AND I TRIED TO PASS A DRIVER IN FRONT OF ME THAT WAS DRIVING RECKLESS. AS I BEGAN TO PASS THE CAR THEY SWERVED TOWARDS ME AND I HIT THE GRAVEL AND LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR AND BEGAN TO SPIN AND HIT THE PAVEMENT THEN GRAVEL AGAIN AND BEGAN TO FLIP SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE SLAMMING INTO THE FIELD. I HIT MY HEAD ON THE STIRRING WHEEL TWICE AND I THE AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. I WAS GOING 60 MILES PER HOUR. I HAD HEAD AND NECK INJURIES. *TR
HAVE 2007 IMPALA LT3. (PURCHASED FROM SUNSET CHEVROLET, SUMNER, WA) 1/13/2010. HAVING SERIOUS TRANSMISSION ISSUES. TOOK VEHICLE TO FIRESTONE (6/10/10) FOR ROUTINE OIL CHANGE AND INSPECTION. FOUND LEAK IN TRANSMISSION. ALSO NEEDED FUEL SYSTEM SERVICE. REPAIRS NOT DONE AT THIS TIME DUE TO FINANCIAL SHORTAGE. TOOK TO FIRESTONE AGAIN FOR ROUTINE OIL CHANGE 8/26/10. DURING ROUTINE INSPECTION OIL LEAK DETECTED. TRANSMISSION LEAKING. AND POWER STEERING MAKING ABNORMAL NOISE. COULD NOT AFFORD REPAIRS. THEN TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP. WAS TOLD THAT REPAIRS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. COULD NOT AFFORD OUT OF POCKET. TRANSMISSION GOT WORSE AS DID OIL LEAK AND POWERSTEERING. 1/31/11 FIRESTONE SERVICED THE TRANSMISSION AND REPLACED THE LEAKING GASKET. THIS DID NOTHING TO HELP TRANSMISSION ISSUES. CONTACTED GM. WAS EVENTUALLY TOLD THAT EVEN THOUGH BURIEN CHEVROLET TOLD US THE PARTS WERE NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY, THAT IN FACT THE PARTS WERE COVERED BY WARRANTY AT THE TIME WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER. BUT BECAUSE WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT AUTO SHOP, THEIR WAS NOTHING GM COULD DO TO ASSIST US WITH OUR ISSUE. NOW I AM UNSURE HOW TO PROCEED. ANY ADVISE? THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. STEERING KNUCKLE IN 2007 IMPALA...STRANGE NOISE WHEN TURNING WHEEL ALL THE WAY TO THE RIGHT. *TR
WHEN A HEADLIGHT FAILS ON MY 2007 CHEVROLET IMPALA THE MANUAL MAKES IT LOOK LIKE IT IS VERY EASY FOR THE OWNER TO CHANGE THE HEADLIGHT. HOWEVER, AFTER PURCHASING THE HEADLAMP AT AN AUTOPARTS STORE I TRIED EVERY DRIVER I HAD ON THE SO CALLED SCREW THAT HOLDS THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY IN PLACE. THE FALE NORMAL LOOKING SCREW THEY USE IS A SAFETY TRAP. IT'S HEAD IS TOO SHALLOW TO REACH INTO ANY NORMAL DRIVE. I HAD TO DRIVE AROUND WITH MY HEADLIGHT OUT UNTIL I FIND A CAPABLE MECHANIC WITH THE SPECIAL TOOL. IF THEIR SHOP MANUAL WARNED I NEEDED A SPECIAL TOOL I COULD HAVE TRADED THE CAR IN ON A NEW ONE OR GONE TO A MECHANIC TO BEGIN WITH. IT MADE ME SO ANGRY THAT I TOOK IT OUT ON MY WIFE WHEN SHE COMPLAINED THAT IT WAS TAKING TOO LONG TO DO WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A "JUST WAIT A MINUTE HONEY UNTIL I GET DONE" JOB. ANY MORE ANGRY I COULD HAVE TURNED INTO A SEVERE SAFETY HAZARD STORM! ITS ALMOST AS BAD AS WHEN GM MADE ME PURCHASE A LEASE LOOKING LOAN FROM GMAC WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR. AFTER I PAID IT OFF THEY STILL OWNED THE CAR. FOR SOME REASON THEY INSISTED THAT IT WAS A LOAN AND NOT A LEASE. AND NOW THE GUY IN THE OFFICE NEXT TO ME GOT A GOOD DEAL ON A NEW IMPALA AT TAX PAYER EXPENSE. I HEAR THAT GM IS CONNING THE PUBLIC INTO THINKING THEY ARE PAYING BACK THEIR LOAN WHEN THEY ARE REALLY PLAYING TRICKS BY NOT TALKING ABOUT THE ENTIRE 30 BILLION AND MESSING USING TARP MONEY TO PAY THE GOVERNMENT BACK. PEOPLE AT GM COULD GET HUNG OR AT LEAST TARRED AND FEATHERED FOR THIS WHICH IS ANOTHER SAFETY PROBLEM. *TR
MY CHEVY 2007 IMPALA FAILS TO START AT CERTAIN TIMES DUE TO PASSLOCK DEFECTS. THE INTERNET LISTS COMPLAINTS ALL OVER THE WEB ABOUT THIS GM PROBLEM, BUT NO RECALL. IT HAS DONE THIS 14 TIMES IN THE LAST 30 DAYS. SOMETIMES STARTING 10 MINUTES LATER, SOMETIMES NOT STARTING UNTIL THE NEXT DAY. I NEED A CAR THAT STARTS WHEN NEEDED, ESPECIALLY IF I AM IN A BAD AREA OR PARKED IN AN AREA THAT HAS BECOME UNSAFE. HAVE SOLDERED CONNECTIONS TO TERMINALS THAT SEEMED TO WORK FOR 3 DAYS BUT PROBLEM CAME BACK. NEXT WILL TRY AFTER MARKET BYEMASS MODULE AS MENTIONED ON COMPLAINT SITES AS A FIX, AS CHEVY APPEARS TO CHARGE IN EXCESS OF $500 FOR TEMPORARY FIXES. JUST HAD MY SECOND TOW JOB AFTER A SHOP COULDN'T FIX IT, OVER 70 MILE TOW THIS TIME BACK HOME BECAUSE SHOP COULDN'T DETERMINE PROBLEM. *TR
2007 CHEVY IMPALA - VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE ON SLICK ROADS - ABNORMAL REAR TIRE WEAR DUE TO ALIGNMENT ISSUES - WEARS OUT TIRES IN APPROXIMATELY 15000 MILES DUE TO EXCESSIVE INNER WEAR / CAMBER OUT OF ALIGNMENT. *KB
I'VE HAD TO REPLACE REAR TIRES EVERY 23,000 MILES. TOOK CAR TO CHEVY DEALER AND HE TOLD ME THAT THE HOLES FOR THE STRUTS WOULD HAVE TO BE ELONGATED AND MODIFIED WITH A CAMBER KIT AT MY EXPENSE OR ELSE THE REAR ALIGNMENT WOULD NOT BE ACCORDING TO SPECS. I PAID FOR FRONT AND REAR ALIGNMENT,CHEVY WILL NOT PAY FOR THIS UNLESS ITS A POLICE CAR. IT IS A FACTORY DEFECT, THERE ARE A LOT OF THE SAME MODEL YEAR CHEVROLETS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
2007 CHEVROLET IMPALA BRAKING SYSTEM GRABS AND SHAKES CAR EXCESSIVELY WHEN USING THE BRAKES TO CONTROL DESCENT DOWN MOUNTAIN ROADWAYS. THIS HAS ALSO OCCURRED DURING COMMUTING TO AND FROM WORK WHEN THE BRAKES ARE USED QUITE OFTEN. THE BRAKING SYSTEM WAS TESTED BY A CHEVROLET DEALER, THREE DAYS AFTER THE MOUNTAIN DRIVING PROBLEM. THE ROTORS AND PADS WERE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND NO PROBLEM COULD BE IDENTIFIED. A WEB SEARCH IDENTIFIES OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THIS SAME SYMPTOM. ALTHOUGH NO DAMAGE WAS CAUSED, THE CAR WAS OPERATING IN A VERY UNSAFE MANNER. EVEN AT 30 - 40 MPH THE CAR WAS SHAKING ENOUGH TO DEGRADE SAFE CONTROL. *TR
THIS INVOLVES A CONTINUED REAR TIRE ISSUE WITH MY 2007 CHEVY IMPALA LTZ THAT HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED DESPITE ENCOUNTERS WITH DEALERS & NATIONAL TIRE ALIGNMENT SPECIALISTS 12/06: PURCHASED CAR NEW, CAME WITH GOODYEAR EAGLE LS2 RADIALS. 3/08: ONE TIRE BLEW IN CHARLOTTE, NC. AT JUST TIRES, THEY POINTED OUT THAT BOTH REAR TIRES INCLUDING THE ONE THAT BLEW HAD SIGNIFICANT SIGNS OF WEAR, REPLACED BOTH WITH LS2 RADIALS. THE PROBLEM WAS CHALKED IT UP TO ALIGNMENT ISSUES THAT COULD'VE STARTED FROM THE FACTORY. 11/08: AFTER MORE INCIDENTS OF LOW REAR TIRE PRESSURE, TOOK CAR INTO LOCAL JUST TIRES. TIRED OF CONTINUED ISSUES, I DECIDE TO GET TOP OF THE LINE TIRES FROM THEM (GOODYEAR ASSURANCE TRIPLETRED) FOR JUST UNDER $900. 9/09: TIRE KEPT LOSING PRESSURE, TOOK CAR INTO LOCAL JUST TIRES. TOLD TIRES WERE NOT ONLY ONCE AGAIN OUT OF ALIGNMENT, BUT REAR TIRES AGAIN NEEDED REPLACEMENT (IN A MANNER NOT COVERED BY ROAD HAZARD PLAN) FOR $507 WITH TREADS SEVERELY WORN DOWN. THE PROBLEM WAS AGAIN CHALKED UP TO ALIGNMENT ISSUES, THOUGH THEY ALIGNED THE TIRES IN 11/08. 6/10: RANDOMLY CHECK TREADS ON MY TOP-LINE TIRES. COMPLETELY FINE IN FRONT, BUT WORN DOWN CONSIDERABLY ON BOTH REAR TIRES. I DRIVE ONLY CITY STREETS & HAD DRIVEN LESS THAN 12,000 MILES SINCE BUYING 4 NEW TIRES. WHEN CALLING PALLONE CHEVROLET, THE SERVICE REP FLATLY DISMISSES THE TALK OF THE POLICE RECALL, SAYING THAT THE SPINDLE ROD PARTS INVOLVED ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. (LATER CHECKING INDICATES THE PARTS ARE EXACTLY THE SAME ON BOTH THE POLICE AND COMMERCIAL VEHICLES.) I'M TOLD THAT THE ONLY WAY THEY CAN HELP IS TO CHECK ALIGNMENT, AS IF NOTHING ELSE COULD BE CAUSING THE PROBLEM. *TR
MANY CHEVROLET VEHICLES HAVE A LONG TERM PROBLEM WITH INADEQUATE, DEFECTIVELY MANUFACTURED BRAKE ROTORS CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE, CHATTER, VIBRATE, ETC., WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. THE CHEVROLET BRAKE CHATTER, SHAKE, PULSATING, ROUGHNESS PROBLEM REPORTED BY MANY CHEVROLET OWNERS IS NOT ONLY AN ANNOYING PROBLEM BUT ALSO A SAFETY PROBLEM!!!! THE FOLLOWING IS A PERSONAL EXPERIENCE NEARLY RESULTING IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT PRIMARILY BECAUSE OF DEFECTIVE BRAKES ON MY 2007 CHEVROLET IMPALA VEHICLE. RECENTLY WHILE TRAVELING ALONG AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY WITH MY WIFE DRIVING, WE WERE SUDDENLY FACED WITH AN PANIC STOPPING REQUIREMENT BECAUSE OF BACKED UP TRAFFIC ON A CURVE. MY WIFE APPLIED THE BRAKES HEAVILY AND THE CAR WENT INTO SUCH A VIOLENT FRONT SHAKING FIT THAT SHE PANICKED AND RELEASE THE BRAKE TO STOP THE SHAKING AND HAD TO SWERVE TO AVOID STOPPED CARS IN FRONT OF US. THE NHTSA SHOULD FORCE CHEVROLET TO RECALL ALL CHEVROLET VEHICLES WITH THIS PROBLEM AND CORRECT IT BEFORE MAJOR ACCIDENTS HAPPEN WITH LOSS OF PROPERTY AND LIFE. THIS PROBLEM IS COMMON TO MANY CHEVROLET VEHICLE AS REPORTED ON MANY WEB SITES BUT BECAUSE IT IS OFTEN JUST AN ANNOYING CONCERN MOST PEOPLE DON'T CONSIDER THE SAFETY ASPECTS OF THIS PROBLEM UNTIL THEY ARE FACED WITH A SITUATION AS DESCRIBE ABOVE. NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT ASSOCIATE THIS CHATTER, SHAKING, VIBRATING BRAKE PROBLEM DUE TO DEFECTIVE BRAKE ROTOR DESIGN/MANUFACTURE WITH THE ACTIVATION OF THE ANTI-BRAKE SYSTEM. I HAVE A 2007 CHEVY IMPALA LT I BOUGHT IT USED WITH 30,000 MILES ON IT. IN BETWEEN OIL CHANGES THE OIL WARNING COMES ON TELLING ME TO ADD MORE OIL. I'VE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND TO OTHER MECHANICS AND CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHAT IS WRONG. THEY HAVE CHECKED FOR LEAKS AND THERE ARE NONE. THEY SAID MAYBE THE ENGINE IS BURNING IT OFF BUT THEY DON'T SMELL IT. NOBODY CAN TELL ME WHAT IS WRONG, SO IN BETWEEN OIL CHANGES I HAVE TO PUT 1-2 QUARTS OF OIL IN IT. 2007 IMPALA. ROTORS REPLACED 3 TIMES. POLICE BRAKES WERE INSTALLED BUT THE ROTORS WARPED. THEY DID LAST LONGER. THE DEALER REPLACED THE POLICE ROTORS AND THEY WARPED WITHIN 100 MILES. THE ROTORS WERE CUT YESTERDAY AND I WOULD BET THEY WILL BE WARPED WITH IN 2 WEEKS. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2007 CHEVY IMPALA LT WITH 52,000 ON 5.27.10. THE CAR IS UNSAFE, MAKES LOUD ROAD NOISE, THE TIRES ARE WEARING OUT FUNNY, EVEN THO THE CAR WAS PERFECT WHEN I BOUGHT IT. THE BRAND NEW TIRES ARE WEARING OUT FUNNY, I TOOK IT TO 2 SHOPS, HAD ROTORS REPLACED THAT WERE WARPED, BALANCED, AND ROTATED TIRES, TOMORROW GETTING IT ALIGNED AGAIN, THE DEALER ALIGNED IT WHEN I PURCHASED IT LESS THAN A MONTH AGO. THE TIRES ALSO NEED BALANCED AGAIN EVEN THO I GOT IT DONE A WEEK AGO. I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR IT HAS A SERIOUS DEFECT WITH THE CAR NOT THE TIRES, SOME KIND OF ALIGNMENT PROBLEM A GM DEFECT, AND I'M SEEING ALOT OF OTHERS SAME THE SAME THING AS ME ON THE FORUMS ABOUT THE 2007 IMPALA. THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A LIGHT IN CITY AT LOW SPEEDS, I PUSH THE GAS PEDDLE JUST A LITTLE BIT TO SPEED UP LIKE A CAR IS DESIGNED TO DO BUT THE RPMS GO UP BUT THE CAR DOES NOT SPEED UP TO KEEP UP WITH TRAFFIC, I PUSH THE GAS PEDDLE DOWN HALF WAY AND THE OVERDRIVE KICKS IN WITHOUT EXPECTING IT AND IT SPEEDS UP LIKE A ROCKET IN 30MPH TRAFFIC. THE CAR STRUGGLES AND KICKS ITS OVERDRIVE IN TO JUST SPEED UP IN THE CITY, SOMETHING ISN'T RIGHT WITH THIS. IM AFRAID TO DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY WITH THE TIRE WEAR ISSUE, THE TIRES ARE BEING RUINED AND NO EXCUSE FOR IT. IM SAVING AND FILING ALL REPAIRS DONE TO MY IMPALA... I REALLY AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR OVER 50MPH, I DON'T THINK MY LIFE SHOULD BE AT RISK BECAUSE GM SLAPPED TOGETHER A CAR WITHOUT MAKING IT SAFE. AFTER REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED AND MY VEHICLE "ROAD-TESTED", I PICKED UP MY CAR AND AFTER LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP, BOTH THE ABS AND TRACTION SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND I CALLED AND THEY SCHEDULED ME IN FOR AN APPT. 2 DAYS LATER. I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE IN LATE MARCH 2010. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, MY CAR BEGAN TO LOSE POWER. I HAVE ALSO HAD THE TIRE ISSUE, DID NOT THINK ABOUT IT BEING THE CAR, BUT I HAVE HAD 3 SETS OF BRAND NEW TIRES ON THIS VEHICLE. SAME PROBLEM SOMEONE ELSE MENTIONED THE REAR TIRES WEAR COMPLETELY OUT ON THE INSIDE. I HAD WIRES HANGING OUT ON 1 YEAR OLD TIRES. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE AT ALL IN THIS VEHICLE AND CAN'T IMAGINE ANYONE WANTING TO DRIVE A VEHICLE THAT THE STEERING LOCKS UP. I HAVE 2 PRECIOUS CHILDREN AND AM NOT HAPPY WITH THIS. I STILL OWE A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT ON THE VEHICLE SO I DON'T REALLY HAVE ANY OPTIONS BUT TO REPORT TO SOMEONE THAT MIGHT COULD HELP. THANKS! I PURCHASED A USED 2007 CHEVROLET IMPALA 3.5L LS WITH APPROXIMATELY 25K MILES IN OCTOBER 2009. BETWEEN OIL CHANGES MY CAR HAS BEEN BURNING OUT OIL 2-3 QUARTS BETWEEN OIL CHANGES). I HAVE TAKEN IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES TO HAVE THIS ISSUES CORRECTED. THEY THOUGHT IT WAS A CLOGGED SENSOR AND CHANGED IT BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY LEAKS. THEY CHANGED THE SENSOR BUT THE VEHICLE IS STILL BURNING BETWEEN 2 - 3 QUARTS. I HAVE MY OIL CHANGED EVERY 3K MILES. THE OIL LIGHT DOES COME ON TO ALERT ME WHEN I AM LOW. I AM AFRAID THAT THE ENGINE IS GOING TO SEIZE UP. I WANT TO BRING IT BACK TO THE DEALER AGAIN BUT THE LAST 3 TIME I HAVE TAKEN IT THERE THEY HAVE BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL IN FINDING THE PROBLEM. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET IMPALA. DURING A ROUTINE MAINTENANCE APPOINTMENT, THE DEALER TOLD HIM THAT THE STEERING SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HE PREVIOUSLY NOTICED A KNOCKING NOISE IN THE STEERING WHEEL AFTER IT WAS BROUGHT TO HIS ATTENTION AT THE DEALERSHIP. HE HAD NOT SPOKEN WITH THE MANUFACTURER TO-DATE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 51,320. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,283.

IN ADDITION, WHEN DRIVING IN SNOWY WEATHER, THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO TRAVEL ABOVE 35 MPH OR THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE WOULD FISH TAIL. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 109,000 AND THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

MY CAR IS A 2007 CHEVROLET IMPALA,4DR, WHITE. I BOUGHT IT NEW FROM A DEALER IN PICKENS SC, WHO WENT OUT OF BUSINESS SOON AFTER I BOUGHT IT. I HAD NO TROUBLE WITH IT UNTIL THE INCIDENCE DESCRIBED HEREIN. ON JANUARY 10, 2010, I WAS GOING DOWN RUTHERFORD ROAD IN GREENVILLE SC TO THE LAUREL BAYE HEALTHCARE HOME IN GREENVILLE SC. I TURNED INTO THE ROAD TO LAUREL BAYE FROM RUTHERFORD ROAD. THIS IS A SHARP RIGHT TURN INTO A ROAD THAT GOES UPHILL. HALFWAY THROUGH THE TURN MY CAR'S STEERING WHEEL LOCKED COMPLETELY. I COULD NOT TURN MY WHEELS AT ALL. THE CAR WAS RUNNING FINE, AND ALL OTHER SYSTEMS IN THE CAR WORKED, BUT MY STEERING WHEEL COULD NOT BE MOVED. I PUT ON MY BRAKES, WHICH WORKED, AND DROVE TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE NARROW ROAD. I TURNED OFF THE MOTOR, AND WAITED A FEW SECONDS. THEN I TURNED MY CAR BACK ON. THE WHEELS WERE STILL LOCKED. AT THAT TIME ANOTHER CAR DROVE UP, AND THE DRIVER GOT OUT AND TRIED TO GET MY CAR WHEELS TO MOVE, WITH NO SUCCESS. IN TURN, A POLICEMAN, AND MY NEIGHBOR TRIED TO MAKE THE CAR WHEEL TURN, BUT NO SUCCESS. IN THE MEANTIME MY NEIGHBOR GOT THE CAR TO RELEASE THE WHEELS, AND I DROVE IT HOME, AND IT APPEARED TO BE OK AGAIN. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK THE CAR TO A CHEVROLET, BUICK, CADILLAC DEALER IN GREER SC. I REPORTED WHAT HAD HAPPENED, AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD EXAMINE THE CAR. THE SERVICE MAN SAID THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. THE NEXT DAY I CALLED AND THREATENED TO WRITE LETTERS OF COMPLAINT. SO THEY TOOK THE CAR AGAIN, AND KEPT IT FOR 11 DAYS TESTING IT, AND STILL REPORTED THEY COULD FIND NOTHING THAT HAD CAUSED THE WHEELS TO LOCK. IN THE MEANTIME I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND MANY REPORTS OF GM CARS WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM. THERE HAVE BEEN CLASS ACTION SUITS, AND SUITS WHICH HAVE BEEN SETTLED BY GM. NOW I FEEL MY CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE, AND I FEEL UNEASY DRIVING IT. I WOULD LIKE TO REPORT THIS INCIDENT AND HOPE THAT GM WILL BE FORCED INTO A RECALL OF ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES. *TR

HER INDEPENDENT MECHANIC REPLACED THE CAM SHAFT SENSOR WHICH CORRECTED THE FAILURE BRIEFLY, HOWEVER THE FAILURE PERSISTED. SHE WAS UNAWARE IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS ON HER VEHICLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNDER 56,000.

I OWN A 2007 IMPALA LT 3.9 L. PURCHASED FROM SUNSET CHEVROLET IN SUMNER, WA 1/03/10. NOT EVEN 3 MONTHS AFTER BUYING THE CAR, THE ENGINE OIL STARTED LEAKING, THE TRANSMISSION STARTED LEAKING, THE POWER STEERING STARTED MAKING AN ABNORMAL NOISE, AND THE CAR NEEDED A BRAKE JOB. (FRONT AND BACK). TOOK CAR TO DEALER (BURIEN CHEVROLET IN BURIEN, WA). WAS TOLD THAT THE NEEDED REPAIRS WERE NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. WE DECLINED REPAIRS AS WE COULD NOT AFFORD OUT OF POCKET COST. CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS. WAS TOLD THAT AT THE TIME THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, THAT RELEVANT COMPONENTS WERE INDEED COVERED BY THE WARRANTY. GM WAS UNSURE OF WHY DEALER HAD TOLD US THEY WERE NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. BUT THAT THE WARRANTY WAS PRESENTLY EXPIRED, AND EVEN THOUGH IT WASN'T WHEN WE TOOK CAR TO DEALER, THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO NOW THAT THE WARRANTY IS EXPIRED. ALSO, THE TECH AT BURIEN CHEVROLET SAID THAT HE COULD SEE NO SIGNS OF THE SYMPTOMS THAT WE DESCRIBED WERE WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION, EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN ISSUED BY GM ON 10/15/09 (06-07-30-023C) WHICH DESCRIBES THE SYMPTOMS EXACTLY AS WE TOLD THE DEALER. IT ALSO CONTAINS INFORMATION NEEDE TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. NOW THE TRANSMISSION IS ON THE VERGE OF BREAKING DOWN AND THE ENGINE IS LEAKING OIL MORE THAN EVER.
