EVERY TIME IT RAINS, OR EVEN IF THE AIR HAS BEEN DAMP OVERNIGHT, MY FRONT IN-DOOR SPEAKERS FAIL. THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE, IN-DOOR SPEAKER IS COMPLETELY BURNT OUT AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR HAS ALSO FAILED. I CALLED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHO WANTS TO CHARGE ME TO REPAIR THIS. THERE IS WATER LEAKING INTO THE DOORS CAUSING ELECTRICAL FAILURES TO OCCUR. ONCE THE INSIDE OF THE DOORS DRY, THEN THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT DOOR SPEAKER BEGINS TO WORK AGAIN. THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT DOOR IS COMPLETELY DEAD BUT THE WINDOW WORKS. *TR
TIRE BLOWOUT. DUE TO DEFECTIVE REAR SUSPENSION THAT CAUSED TIRES TO BE MISALIGNED. THE DEFECTIVE SPINDLES CAUSED THE WEIGHT OF THE CAR TO RIDE ON THE VERY INSIDE CORNERS OF THE REAR TIRES. 90% OF THE TIRE WEAR WAS ON 10% OF THE TIRES. THIS CAUSED THE HIDDEN INSIDE ONE INCH OF THE TIRE TO WEAR THROUGH THE TIRE SAFETY BELTS, EXPOSE THE TIRE THREADS, AND THEN BLOWOUT. BOTH REAR TIRES DID THIS. THE PICTURES ARE STUNNING TO SEE HOW MUCH OF THE TIRE TREAD LOOKS PERFECT AND HOW DEVASTATING THE WEAR WAS TO THE INNER MOST INCH. TO MOST PEOPLE LOOKING AT THE TIRES FROM THE SIDE, THEY LOOKED FINE.NO ONE EXPECTS THE DAMAGE THEY DON'T SEE HIDDEN FROM DAILY VIEW. THE TIRE WEAR IS EXTREMELY ACCELERATED ONCE IT REACHES THE SOFT MATERIAL JUST UNDER THE TREAD. IT CAN GO FROM THIN TREAD TO A HOLE IN THE SAFETY BELT MATERIAL IN 1000 MILES OF WEAR. GM ISSUED TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN IN 2008 ABOUT THIS EXACT SYMPTOM, BUT ONLY CALLED FOR REPAIR OF POLICE MODEL IMPALAS. THEY HAVE NOT CALLED FOR REPAIR OF SIMILAR GENERAL PUBLIC OWNERS MODELS. SO WE DID NOT KNOW UNTIL WE HAD A BLOWOUT. THE DEALER WOULD DO NOTHING BECAUSE IT WAS NOT A POLICE CAR COVERED IN THE TSB. WE PAID FOR 4 NEW TIMES, AND ALIGNMENT. BUT THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. THE NEW TIRES ARE WEARING OUT THE SAME. THERE IS LITTLE WINTER TRACTION IN THE REAR BECAUSE OF SUCH SMALL AMOUNT OF TREAD ON THE ROAD. *TR
AFTER DRIVING MY CAR TO THE STORE I PULLED UP TO PARK MY CAR. AFTER I CAME BACK TO GET INTO IT THE SHIFTER WOULD NOT DISENGAGE AT ALL. I WAS STRANDED. I WAS TOLD IT WAS A COMMON AND WELL KNOWN ISSUE WITH CHEVROLET IMPALA MODELS. AFTER CONTACTING GM THEY TOLD ME THEY WERE SORRY AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT. I'M STILL WAITING TO SEE WHAT TRICKS THIS CAR DOES NEXT. I NOW BELIEVE IT IS POORLY MADE AND I WILL NEVER OWN ANOTHER ONE.. GM CANT EVEN MAKE A CUP HOLDER ROUND LIKE A CUP. SORRY I DIDN'T SEE THAT BEFORE I BOUGHT IT OR MIGHT HAVE AN ENGINEERING CLUE. ALSO BOTH MY DOOR LOCKS ON THE DRIVERS SIDE CONSECUTIVELY STOPPED WORKING AND ITS NOT THE FUSES. THERE'S 200 BUCKS TO FIX THAT I DON'T HAVE AND I HAVE TO SHIFT MY CAR BY USING A SCREWDRIVER AND PUSHING THE SILVER BUTTON UNDER THE CONSOLE WHICH RELEASES THE SHIFTER. THANK GOD CHEVY HAD BACK UP FOR THAT ENGINEERING MISTAKE BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO FIX THAT ONE EITHER. NOW I'M JUST GUESSING IF MY CAR SHOULD BE ON RECALL. I WAS TRAVELING ON A HIGHWAY NEAR TO MY HOME, AND FOR ABOUT A MONTH NOW THE VEHICLE HAS COME UP WITH AN ERROR STATING "REDUCED ENGINE POWER". SUDDENLY, THE VEHICLE SIMPLY STALLED ITSELF, COMING UP WITH A MESSAGE THAT STATED "STARTING DISABLED/SERVICE THROTTLE". I WAS TRAVELING UPHILL AT 40MPH, NOW WITH NO POWER BRAKES, NO POWER STEERING, AND THE ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUT OFF AND UNABLE TO RESTART. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND DISCONNECT THE BATTERY AND RECONNECT IT TO RESTART IT. WHAT IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON A HIGHWAY ON OR OFF RAMP? OR ON A CORNER? OR WITH A VEHICLE TRAVELING BEHIND ME? I BELIEVE ANY VEHICLE THAT WILL JUST RANDOMLY TURN ITSELF OFF DUE TO A PART THAT HAS HAD HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS THAT I'VE JUST READ ONLINE IS UNSAFE TO BE DRIVEN ON AMERICA'S HIGHWAYS. I READ ONLINE THAT THIS WAS A PREVALENT PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES, AND I HOPE I GET INJURED BECAUSE OF IT SO I CAN SUE GM. *TR
SYMPTOMS WERE NOISE WHEN STEERING AT LOW SPEED, PLAY IN STEERING WHEEL AND VEHICLE "WANDERING" WHEN DRIVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE. PROBLEM WAS DEFECTIVE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT. GM REDESIGNED THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT IN 2008 IN RESPONSE TO THESE VERY PROBLEMS. GM HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS PART, BUT THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE TECHNICAL SERVICES BULLETINS, INCLUDING TSB # 01-02-32-0010. THE TSB INDICATES THE NEED FOR REPLACING, NOT LUBRICATING, THE PART. THE TSB STATES "ENGINEERING CHANGES HAVE BEEN MADE TO THE SERVICE PARTS AVAILABLE THROUGH SPO. THE SERVICE PARTS FOR THE VEHICLES LISTED IN THIS BULLETIN WILL NO LONGER REQUIRE LUBRICATION OF THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT" GM RE-ENGINEERING THE PART INDICATES TO ME AS AN OWNER THAT THEY KNOW THE ORIGINAL PRODUCT WAS DEFECTIVE, BUT ARE CHOOSING TO REPLACE A DEFECTIVE, POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS PART AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. THIS PROBLEM IS WIDELY DOCUMENTED ON GM OWNER AND DEALERSHIP FORUMS ACROSS THE INTERNET. THIS PROBLEM IS SHARED BY CHEVROLET IMPALAS, CHEVROLET MONTE CARLOS, BUICK REGALS, BUICK LACROSSES, OLDSMOBILE INTRIGUE AND PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. ALL OF THESE VEHICLES ARE BUILT ON THE GM "W BODY" PLATFORM. DUE TO THE POPULARITY OF THESE VEHICLES, THE PROBLEM LIKELY AFFECTS MANY MILLIONS OF OWNERS. I HAD THE PART REPLACED AT MY OWN EXPENSE. I HAD A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED WARRANTY THAT, ACCORDING TO MY INVOICE, ONLY SAVED ME $30 ON THE REPAIR. I WAS CHARGED A $200 DEDUCTIBLE FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE PART. *TR
2008 CHEVY IMPALA. RIGHT REAR DOOR LOCK BEGAN WORKING INTERMITTENTLY. RIGHT FRONT FOLLOWED SUIT SHORTLY AFTERWARDS. NOW, SOME 5 MONTHS LATER, THE DRIVER DOOR IS BEHAVING THE SAME WAY. IT MAKES TRANSPORTING MY CHILDREN DIFFICULT AND UNSAFE. IF THERE WERE TO BE AN ACCIDENT, THE CHILDREN IN THE BACK SEAT ARE NOT LIKELY TO HAVE THE MENTAL CAPACITY TO REMEMBER TO UNLOCK THE DOOR WHICH COULD LEAD TO FURTHER INJURY OR DEATH. WIRING HARNESS IN THE CENTER CONSOLE IS POORLY DESIGNED AND LOCATED IN SUCH A WAY THAT THE WIRING BREAKS AND MAKING IT SO ELECTRICAL SAFETY DEVICES DO NOT DISENGAGE THUS NOT LETTING THE KEY BE REMOVED, THE VEHICLE NOT BEING ABLE TO SHIFT FROM PARK, AND OTHER FAILURES YET TO BE IDENTIFIED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE DRIVER NOTICED A WARNING THAT STATED ENGINE POWER REDUCED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. AFTER INSPECTION, THEY ADVISED HER THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 98,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 105,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. *TR
DOOR LOCKS FAIL TO WORK WITH REMOTE HAD ONE REPLACED IN 2010 FOR THE BACK DOOR UNDER WARRANTY. NOW THE OTHER SIDE WENT WITH ONLY 30000 MILES. WARRANTY IS UP AND IT'S A HAZARD BECAUSE I HAVE TO PICK THE LATCH UP, ON THE DOOR BEFORE I CAN OPEN IT. IT'S HARD FOR CHILD OR OLDER PERSON TO DO IN AN EMERGENCY. WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO PAY A GM DEALER TO TELL ME THE LOCK IS NO GOOD. I THINK THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL.
IT WAS RAINING AND LOST POWER STEERING AT SPEED. THIS HAS CONTINUED EACH TIME IT HAS RAINED OR GOING THROUGH A CAR WASH. VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE THE CAR WILL NOT TURN. THIS TYPE OF INCIDENT HAS OCCURRED MORE THAN 50 TIMES AND THE DEALERSHIP ONLY LAUGHED AT ME WHEN I CALLED. IS CHEVY WAITING TILL MY FAMILY IS KILLED BEFORE NOTICING THIS ISSUE LIKE WITH THE OTHER RECENT RECALLS. *TR
THREE MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT MY CAR I GOT IN IT ABOUT 7 AM TO GO TO WORK. WHEN I PUT MY CAR IN REVERSE I HEARD A NOISE SO I LOOKED AT THE SCREEN AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED LIGHT WAS FLASHING AS WELL AND MY CAR WOULDN'T GO OVER 40 MPH. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID TO BRING IT IN AFTER WORK AND THEY WILL LOOK AT IT. THE FIRST TIME THE SAID IT WAS THE THROTTLE PEDAL ASSEMBLY SO I REPLACED THAT. TWO WEEKS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED, THIS TIME THEY SAID I HAD A PINCHED WIRE AND THEY FIXED IT. AGAIN IT CAME ON WHEN I HAD BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND I WAS TOLD THE COMPUTER WAS JARRED SO THEY RESET IT. A MONTH LATER ON AUGUST 18, 2012 I WAS SITTING AT A STOP SIGN WAITING TO TURN RIGHT AND WHEN I WENT TO TURN MY CAR STALLED OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND I WAS ALMOST HIT BY A CAR COMING AROUND THE CURVE. I GOT SCARED SO I TURNED AROUND TO GO HOME AND IT STALLED OUT ON ME FOUR MORE TIMES BEFORE MAKING IT 5 MILES DOWN THE ROAD. I HAD MY 3 SMALL CHILDREN IN THE CAR WITH ME AT THE TIME AND THEY GOT PRETTY SHAKEN UP AS WELL. *TR
I JUST PURCHASED MY USED VEHICLE FROM A DEALER LESS THAN 6 MONTHS AGO. MY ENGINE LIGHT KEPT COMING ON AND THEN IT STAYED ON. I WENT TO A LOCAL AUTO PARTS STORE TO GET A DIAGNOSTIC READING AND IT SAID TO CHECK MY EMMISION SYSTEM. SO, I TOOK MY CAR TO THE CHEVY DEALER IN TOWN AND THEIR DIAGNOSTIC TEST DETERMINED THAT IT WAS A BAD EVAP VENT SOLENOID VALVE. EVEN THOUGH MY CAR IS COVERED BY THE 8 YEAR FEDERAL WARRANTY ON EMISSIONS, I HAD TO PAY FOR THE NEW PART AND THE DIAGNOSTICS CHECK. IN LOOKING UP THIS PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET, TO MY SURPRISE IT IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM! APPARENTLY, THE SOLENOID VALVE IS A POOR LASTING PART WHICH NEEDS TO BE REPLACED MORE THAN ONCE! IT IS A COMMON MAINTENANCE SERVICE THAT SHOULD BE CHECKED EVERY 30,000 MILES. THERE IS NO MENTION OF THIS IN MY OWNER'S MANUAL. IN SPEAKING WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS, THEY HAVE ALSO HAD THEIR ENGINE LIGHTS COME ON AND HAD GAS STATION MECHANICS TELL THEM TO IGNORE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AS IT IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH THE NEWER VEHICLES AND THE NEW EMMISION STANDARDS. WHEN I TOLD CHEVY THAT THEY SHOULD RECALL THE PART, THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY DON'T HANDLE THAT AND TO REPORT IT TO THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION. I BELIEVE THE CONSUMER IS NOT GETTING ALL THE INFORMATION ON THIS PROBLEM AND SOMEONE SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS DEFECTIVE PART.
REDUCE POWER LIGHT COMES ON. CARS SPEED DRASTICALLY REDUCES. IF YOU PULL OVER AND WAIT FOR ABOUT TEN MINUTES AND RESTART THE CAR,IT RESETS ITSELF. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2008 IMPALA ON JANUARY 14, 2012 AND THE INNER TIRES ON THE REAR WERE WORN ALMOST TO THE METAL CORD. I SLID OFF THE ROAD ON FEBRUARY 26, 2012. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE REPAIR SHOP THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL BEARING WAS LOOSE AND ALSO THE OUTER TIRE ROD ON THE FRONT LEFT WAS ALSO LOOSE. THE AUTO REPAIR SPECIALIST INFORMED ME THAT THE SUSPENSION ON THE IMPALA IS A COMMON CONCERN. I WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT GM RECALLED THE 2008 IMPALA BUT ONLY THE POLICE CARS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WAS UNABLE TO UNLOCK THE DOORS BY USING THE AUTOMATIC KEY FOB. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE ONLY WAY TO UNLOCK THE DOOR WAS BY CRAWLING OVER THE REAR SEAT AND MANUALLY UNLOCKING THE DOORS FROM THE INSIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DID NOT DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE 73,600. UPDATED 04/25/12 *BF
AT A STOP SIGN ON SIGNAL, VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO 1ST UNLESS STEPPING HARD ON GAS. TRANSMISSION WOULD SLIP UNTIL ENGAGING AT HIGHER RPM. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON A NUMBER OF OCCASIONS AND HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE LOOKED AT. DEALER CAN'T SEEM TO REPLICATE THE ISSUES I'VE HAD. HAVE HAD DEALER SERVICE MANAGER WITH ME AND IT STILL WOULD NOT TO IT. 10/1/2012. DOING THE SAME THING. 83,000 MILES. GM AND DEALER AWARE OF PREVIOUS ISSUES. HAVE NOT CONTACTED DEALER OF GM THIS TIME. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE GEAR SHIFT WOULD NOT RELEASE FROM THE PARK POSITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST PERFORMED, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS NOT RECALLED AND DENIED ASSISTANCE WITH THE REPAIRS. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 39,211. THE VIN INFORMATION WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
MILEAGE ON CAR 27,533 TIRES RATED 40,000 WE ROTATE TIRES EVERY 6,000 TO 9,000 MILES. HAD NAIL IN TIRE, WENT TO GM GARAGE TO GET REPAIRED. WE WERE TOLD AND THEN SHOWN THAT THE REAR TIRES WERE WORN SO BAD ON THE INSIDE THEY WERE JUNK. THE FRONT TIRES WERE ALMOST AS BAD. THE DEALER SERVICE ADVISOR SAID YOU MAY USE ONE FOR A SPARE BUT SHOULDN'T PUT THEM ON THE CAR FOR REGULAR USE. THEY ALSO INSTALLED REAR CAMBER BOLTS IN ORDER TO PERFORM AN ALIGNMENT ON THE REAR WHEELS. ACCORDING TO A GM BULLETIN NO. 08032A DATED JULY 2008 THAT THE INSTALLATION OF NEW REAR WHEEL SPINDLE RODS TO CORRECT THE WEAR PROBLEM WAS NECESSARY. THIS BULLETIN HAS BEEN UPGRADED TO INCLUDE NON-POLICE VEHICLES. I SHOWED THE SERVICE ADVISOR THE BULLETIN AND HE CONFIRMED IT WAS UPGRADED TO INCLUDE NON-POLICE VEHICLES. I AM WORRIED THAT THEIR REPAIR WON'T COMPLETELY CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT THERE WASN'T AN ADJUSTMENT FOR THE REAR WHEELS. WHICH LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT THE REAR TIRES WERE NEVER ALIGNED PROPERLY. WE RECEIVE CREDIT FOR THE TWO REAR TIRES BUT NOTHING FOR THE FRONT TIRES. GM KNEW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM IN JULY 2008. I CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED. GM'S RESPONSE TO THIS PROBLEM IS UNACCEPTABLE. *TR
THE A/C ACTUATOR IS MAKING A CLICKING NOISE WHICH PREVENTS THE DEFROST SYSTEM FROM WORKING PROPERLY. IT STARTS TO CLICK WHEN THE TEMPERATURE IS WARM OUTSIDE BUT IT DOESN'T DO IT IN THE COOL TEMPERATURES. DURING COOLER TEMPERATURES, THE CAR MAKES A REVVING NOISE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, ALL FOUR DOOR LOCKS WERE INDEPENDENTLY LOCKING AND UNLOCKING. THE DOOR LOCKS HAVE ALL FAILED AND THE CONTACT WAS ONLY ABLE TO USE THE KEY TO OPEN THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ACTUATORS AND COMPUTERS FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 125,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

THE REAR POWER DOOR LOCKS NO LONGER LOCK AUTOMATICALLY WHEN SHIFTING TRANSMISSION IN DRIVE OR WHEN USING DRIVER MASTER DOOR LOCK SWITCH. PROBLEM BEGAN SOON AFTER PURCHASE. HAS BEEN CONTINUOUS PROBLEM. KNOWN ISSUE WITH LUBRICATION GREASE ENTERING ACTUATOR MOTOR AND SHORTING MOTOR CONNECTIONS. VERY PREVALENT PROBLEM WITH 07 08 IMPALAS, ALSO SIMILAR YEAR MALIBUS. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHENEVER DECELERATING TO A STOP OR WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP, THE VEHICLE WOULD INDEPENDENTLY SHIFT INTO LOW GEAR AND START TO JERK VIOLENTLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE BUT COULD NOT DETERMINE ANY FAILURE. I PURCHASED MY '08 IMPALA LT USED, VEHICLE WAS IN PERFECT CONDITION, OLDER OWNER AND WAS A SEASONAL VEHICLE AS WE LIVE IN SOUTH FLORIDA THIS OWNER WAS A SNOW BIRD AND ONLY USED THE VEHICLE 4 MONTHS OUT OF THE YEAR. I HAD THE CAR ABOUT 7 MONTHS AND THEN I NOTICED A PROBLEM WITH THE LOCKS, THEY WOULD SOMETIMES NOT LOCK/OR UNLOCK WHILE USING THE FOB, THE INTERIOR LOCK STILL WORKED FOR A FEW MORE MONTHS AND THEN EVERYTHING EVENTUALLY CEASED. NEW TIRES INSTALLED JANUARY 2011 WITH PROPER ROTATION EVERY 6000-7500 MILES. INSIDE TREAD OF REAR TIRES ARE PREMATURELY WEARING. I DRIVE MOSTLY HIGHWAY MILES TO AND FROM WORK, ABOUT 150 MILES A DAY ROUND TRIP. I HAVE TO HAVE NEW TIRES INSTALLED AGAIN TODAY AS INSIDE TREAD IS WEARING AND BELTS ARE STARTING TO SHOW. I HAVE SEEN MANY CONSUMER REPORTS AND CLAIMS REGARDING THE REAR SPINDLES AS BEING BAD. FOR A FEW DAYS I HAVE BEEN SMELLING A BURNING SMELL IN MY CAR. I NOTICED THAT MY REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER HAD STOPPED FUNCTIONING. AFTER A GOOGLE SEARCH I CAME UP ON A POSTING AT THE NAIOA WEBSITE WITH MANY PEOPLE HAVING A CONNECTION BURN UP IN THE PASSENGER KICK PANEL WITH PICTURES POSTED. I WENT AND LOOKED AT MY CAR AND THE CONNECTOR WAS BURNT AND MELTED JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE'S IN THE FORUM POSTING. THIS IS A CONNECTOR WITH MANY WIRES IN IT, AND I THINK COULD BE A FIRE HAZARD OR SAFETY HAZARD ON THE VEHICLE IF THE OTHER WIRES BURNED OR SHORTED. *TR
THE REAR DOOR LOCKS WILL NOT OPERATE VIA THE ELECTRICAL. THIS I BELIEVE CAUSES A HAZARD FOR A REAR SEAT PASSENGER ESPECIALLY AN INFANT OR YOUNG CHILD. THEY COULD BE TRAPPED BY THE IN-ABILITY OF THE DRIVER TO ACTIVATE THE REAR DOOR LOCKS TO EVACUATE THE REAR SEAT PASSENGERS IN AN EMERGENCY. *TR
I BOUGHT MY CAR NEW ON JUNE 30, 2008. IN THE FALL OF 2011 I NOTICED THAT ONE OF THE REAR DOOR LOCKS WOULD NOT ACTUALLY UNLOCK WHEN USING THE FOB OR THE UNLOCK BUTTON ON THE INSIDE OF THE CAR. NOW IN JUNE 2012 - NEITHER OF THE REAR DOORS WILL UNLOCK UNLESS SOMEONE IS PHYSICALLY IN THE CAR. I HAVE TWO SMALL CHILDREN - BOTH IN CHILD SAFETY SEATS AND BOTH IN A HARNESS, ONE IS STILL REAR-FACING. TO UNLOCK THE DOORS I EITHER HAVE TO PUT MY CHILD IN THE FRONT SEAT, LAY THE DRIVERS SEAT DOWN, UNLOCK THE BACK DOOR, MOVE HER TO THE BACK SEAT AND CRAWL ACROSS THE CAR TO UNLOCK THE PASSENGER DOOR (WHERE THE REAR-FACING SEAT IS LOCATED) OR MY OLDEST HAS TO CRAWL THROUGH THE FRONT AND THEN UNLOCK BOTH DOORS FOR ME. I CALLED TO SEE HOW MUCH IT WOULD BE TO FIX THE ISSUE AND WAS TOLD ALMOST $300 EACH. I CALLED GM TO SEE IF THEY COULD ASSIST ME AND WAS TOLD THAT SINCE I WAS OUTSIDE OF THE FACTORY WARRANTY IT WOULD BE A "WEAR AND TEAR ISSUE" AND THE CUSTOMER WAS RESPONSIBLE. THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE THERE WOULD BE NO WAY TO ACCESS BOTH HARNESSED CHILDREN IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY OTHER THAN BREAKING THE WINDOWS IN THEIR FACES. REPLACED AGAIN AT 65,000 NOV. OF 2012 AND IT IS IN NEED OT NEW REAR TIRES AGAIN AT 72,000. CAR SHAKES AND BACK END SLIDES IN BAD WEATHER. SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATES THAT IT NEEDS A CAMBOR KIT. RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THAT CHEVROLET PRODUCED A FAULTY SUSPENSION ROD AND RECALLED "POLICE OWNED" VEHICLES BUT NOT CONSUMER VEHICLES. DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN VEHICLE OR ALLOWING MY 16 YEAR OLD TO DRIVE IT. MY CAR IS ALIGNED AND TIRES ROTATED AND SERVICED FREQUENTLY! TIRES WEAR DOWN TO METAL STICKING OUT OF TIRES AND INNER WEAR IS INCREDIBLE. LEFT TIRE BEHIND THE DRIVER IS THE QUICKEST TO HAVE PROBLEMS AND BEGIN TO CAUSE CAR TO SHAKE. SECONDLY, REAR DOOR AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS QUITE WORKING AFTER 2 YEARS OF OWNING CAR. FAILURE OF POWER DOOR LOCKS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. IN ORDER TO KEEP THE VEHICLE SECURE, THE DOORS MUST BE LOCKED. IF A CHILD, INFANT OR DISABLED PERSON WOULD BE IN THE BACK SEAT AND NEEDED TO GET OUT IN AN EMERGENCY, THE DOOR CANNOT BE OPENED FROM THE OUTSIDE WITHOUT SOMEONE FIRST CLIMBING THROUGH THE SEATS FROM THE FRONT AND REACHING WAY BACK TO THE BACK OF THE DOOR TO UNLOCK IT MANUALLY OR BREAKING THE WINDOW. THIS TAKES TIME AND COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH TO A PASSENGER. THIS PROBLEM IS KNOWN BY GM AS THEY HAVE MADE MODIFICATION TO THE PART FOR THE REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR BUT HAVE NOT YET MODIFIED THE PART FOR THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR. SOME DRIVERS ARE NOW REPORTING THAT THE FRONT DOORS ARE ALSO AFFECTED BY THIS DEFECT. EACH PART IS APPROXIMATELY $175.00 OR $700 FOR ALL DOORS AFFECTED AND PROBABLY THAT MUCH AGAIN IN LABOR COSTS. I HAD BEEN COMPLAINING TO MY HUSBAND THAT THE CAR'S REAREND HAS POOR STABILITY AND IT'S HARD TO MAINTAIN IT DURING RAIN AND SNOW AND ICE. WHENEVER IT IS RAINING OR I DRIVE THROUGH A PUDDLE OF WATER ON THE GROUND, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP FOR ABOUT 10-15 SECONDS AND THE CAR SEEMS TO LOSE POWER. I'VE CONCLUDED THAT THIS MUST BE SOME SORT OF SERPENTINE BELT ISSUE AS A LOT OF COMPONENTS ARE AFFECTED AT ONCE SUCH AS ALTERNATOR, POWER STEERING ETC. 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. CONSUMER STATES REAR TIRE SPINDLE ROD PROBLEM *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE HAS WORN OUT SEVERAL REAR TIRES DUE TO THE REAR SPINDLE ROD PROBLEM. *JB
2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEM WITH VEHICLE TIRE WEAR *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED HE ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT WHEN THE VEHICLE SPUN OUT OF CONTROL DUE TO A MANUFACTURES DEFECT CAUSING TIRE WEAR. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED COMPENSATION FOR THREE SETS OF TIRES THAT HAD TO BE PUT ON THE VEHICLE BY JANUARY 2010. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALER STATED GM WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, AND REFUSED TO REIMBURSE THE CONSUMER. THE CONSUMER HAS SINCE TRADED THE VEHICLE.
CAR BEGAN TO DRIVE DIFFERENT SO THOUGHT I NEEDED AN ALIGNMENT. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER I BOUGHT IT FROM ONLY TO BE TOLD I NEEDED NEW TIRES. AT 30000 MILES I THOUGHT THIS WAS ABSURD. A MONTH LATER LATER I HAD A FLAT TIRE IN THE REAR ONLY TO SEE THAT THE TIRE HAD WIRES STICKING OUT OF THE TIRE WITH A HOLE ALMOST COMPLETELY THROUGH THE TIRE. HAD TO SPEND MONEY FOR ALL NEW TIRES AND THEY ARE ALREADY STARTING TO SHOW PROBLEMS AFTER JUST A FEW THOUSAND MILES. I AM SINGLE, RETIRED AND LIVE PAYCHECK TO PAYCHECK. I'M NOT A FAT CAT FROM GENERAL MOTORS WHO CAN'T SEEM TO MAKE A DECISION THAT YES, THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL AND YEAR CHEVY. WHEN PEOPLE START DYING BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM, POSSIBLY THEN YOU WILL DECIDE TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. *TR
