SAFETY ISSUE - VEHICLE LOOSES POWER AND CONTROL. THE SERVICE STABILTRAK AND NO POWER TO THE ENGINE SERVICE LIGHTS APPEAR AND THE CAR LOOSES CONTROL AND POWER WHILE DRIVING... MULTIPLE INCIDENTS GM DEALER COULD NOT IDENTIFY/FIX. THIS RECURRING ISSUE IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD IN THE SNOW LOOSING POWER AND CONTROL WILL CAUSE ACCIDENTS/INJURY. *TR
2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA GEARSHIFT COULD NOT BE MOVED FROM "PARK". TOWED TO DON BROWN CHEVROLET (AFTER TOW DRIVER DISCONNECTED SHIFT LINKAGE). DIAGNOSED AS "TEST AND TRACE GROUND CIRCUIT TO BROKEN WIRE IN CENTER CONSOLE". TALKED TO SERVICE MANAGER WHO REPORTED THAT TECHNICIAN STATED WIRES MOVED WHEN THE SHIFTER WAS MOVED WHICH LIKELY CAUSED WIRE TO BREAK SEPARATE. POTENTIAL FOR DRIVER TO BE "STUCK" IN PARK IN A RISKY / UNSAFE SITUATION EXISTS. *TR
WHEN SLOWING DOWN AND MAKING A TURN. STEERING LOCKS UP. WHEN COME OUT OF TURN AND HIT GAS STARTS WORKING AGAIN. *TR
OWNER WAS TRYING TO REPLACE HIS RIGHT FRONT TIRE AT THE TIME OF THE COLLAPSE. HIS CAR WAS ON A FLAT SURFACE AND HE INSTALLED THE JACK ACCORDING TO THE INSTRUCTIONS. UPON RAISING THE CAR THE JACK BENT ALLOWING THE CAR TO SHIFT AND FALL DOWN. WHEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A REPLACEMENT, THEY CLAIMED IT WAS NOT USED PROPERLY. AFTER TALKING WITH SEVERAL PEOPLE CLAIMING THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE, THE DEALER AGREED TO SUPPLY A NEW ONE ONLY IF THE FAILED JACK WAS GIVEN TO THEM HE DECLINED AND IS WILLING TO SEND IT TO NHTSA FOR INSPECTION. 2008 IMPALA LS,WITH NEW TIRES. HAVE NEVER DRIVEN A CAR THAT HANDLES WORSE IN THE SNOW. THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM IS A JOKE. IT ACTUALLY MAKES DRIVING IN THE SNOW UNPREDICTABLE AND UNFAMILIAR. I AM VERY EXPERIENCED ON ICE AND SNOW BUT THIS CAR MAKES ME FEEL UNSAFE BECAUSE IT IS. I WISH I WOULD HAVE NEVER PURCHASED THIS CAR BASED ON THIS REASON. I PURCHASED MY 2008 CHEVY IMPALA IN 2009 ABOUT A YR AFTER MY PURCHASE I NOTICED MY REAR DRIVERS SIDE DOOR WOULD NOT LOCK OR UNLOCK WITH EITHER THE KEYLESS REMOTE OR THE LOCK BUTTON ON THE DOOR SINCE THEN THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR LOCK HAS DID THE SAME THING. BUT THE FINAL STRAW WAS NOW THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR HAS WENT OUT. THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE TO ME AND MY FAMILY I HAVE TWO SMALL GRANDBABIES ONE OF THEM WITH CANCER, THAT ARE BOTH IN CARSEATS. IF ANY OF THE DOORS LOCK THEY CANNOT I REPEAT CANNOT BE UNLOCKED FROM THE OUTSIDE NOR CAN THEY BE UNLOCKED FROM THE KEYLESS REMOTE OR THE BUTTON ON THE DOOR ONCE THE DOORS ARE LOCKED THE ONLY WAY THEY CAN BE UNLOCKED IS BY TILTING THE SEAT BACK AND MANUALLY UNLOCKING THEM. THIS IS PUTTING MY GRANDCHILDREN IN GRAVE DANGER IF WE ARE IN AN ACCIDENT AND I CANNOT GET TO THEM NO ONE ELSE CAN EITHER UNLESS THEY KNOCK THE WINDOW OUT, WHICH ENDANGERS THE CHILDREN. I DEMAND TO KNOW WHY WHEN IT COMES TO THOUSANDS OF CHILDREN'S LIVES BEING PUT IN DANGER BY A DEFECT OF YOUR PRODUCT THAT YOUR COMPANY IS DRAGGING YOUR FEET ON RECALLING THESE CARS. YOUR RECALLING MILLIONS OF CARS FOR THIS DEFECT AND THAT DEFECT BUT YOUR # 1 PRIORITY SHOULD BE TO PROTECT THE CHILDREN THAT CANT PROTECT THEMSELVES. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH IN SNOWY WEATHER, THE VEHICLE SWERVED FROM UNCONTROLLABLY FROM SIDE TO SIDE. THE CONTACT GAINED CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE BY DRIVING AT A SLOWER SPEED. THE FAILURE ALSO RECURRED WHEN DRIVING DURING RAINY WEATHER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTICS WHERE THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE SPINDLE ROD WAS DEFECTIVE AND CAUSED THE MISALIGNMENT OF THE TIRES. THE MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THE SPINDLE ROD WOULD WEAR OUT UNEVENLY AND RAPIDLY. THE MECHANIC INSTALLED CAMBER BOLTS TO THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL YET THE FAILURE PERSISTED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5-25 MPH, A LOUD THUMPING NOISE EMITTED FROM THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHEN DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE FOUR TIRES WERE ROTATED AND THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED BOTH REAR TIRES WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THE INNER TREAD ON BOTH REAR TIRES EXHIBITED AN UNEVEN PREMATURE WEAR DUE TO DEFECTIVE SPINDLE RODS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.
I PURCHASED A USED 2008 CHEVROLET ON 10/15/2010 AND THE DEALERSHIP PUT A CURRENT INSPECTION CERTIFICATE ON THE VEHICLE. DURING AN UNRELATED VISIT TO MY AUTO MECHANIC HE NOTICED THE TIRES ( FRONT ONLY ) AND STATED THEY WERE NOT GOOD AND IF HE WOULD HAVE INSPECTED THE VEHICLE, HE WOULD HAVE PLACED A "REJECTION STICKER" ON THE M/V. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO STATED THEY WERE OK. WENT BACK TO AUTO MECHANIC WHO ADVISED ME TO FILE COMPLAINT.
I PURCHASED MY 2008 IMPALA WITH 28K MILES IN MARCH 2009-CERTIFIED USED. I HAD TO REPLACE THE TIRES WITHIN THE FIRST 6 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP ( I WAS TOLD THAT GM USES CHEAP TIRES. FROM THE OUTSIDE THE TREAD WAS FINE AND IT APPEARED TO BE IN GOOD SHAPE BUT WHEN IT WAS ON THE LIFT THE TOLD ME THEY ALL HAD METAL SHOWING. I PAID THIS CAR OFF AND GAVE IT TO MY SON IN APRIL 2010- HE HAS SINCE CHANGED ALL 4 TIRES BACK TIRES 3 TIMES. WE HAD THEM ROTATED AND ALIGNED TWICE, THAT IS WHEN IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE TIRES HAD WORN ON THE INSIDE AGAIN. THERE IS NO WAY TO KNOW UNLESS IT IS ON A LIFT. MY SON TOOK THE IMPALA TO THE DEALER SERVICE YESTERDAY AND PURCHASED HIS 2 TIRES- IT WAS AGREED BY SERVICE MANAGER THAT IF WE TOOK THE CAR THERE AND BOUGHT TIRES FROM UNIVERSAL THAT HE WOULD PUT THEM ON, DO AN ALIGNMENT AND MOST IMPORTANT INSTALL THE CAMBER BOLT KIT AT NO EXTRA CHARGE. THIS WAS ALSO TOLD TO CHEVY BY (THE SERVICE MANAGER) WHEN THEY CALLED HIM. I DIDN'T GO WITH MY SON TO PICK UP THE CAR- I DID HOWEVER PAY THE $350 WHICH WAS THE PRICE AGREED IMAGINE MY COMPLETE ANGER WHEN I FOUND OUT LAST NIGHT THE CAMBER BOLT KIT WAS NOT INSTALLED AND ALL THAT WAS DONE 2 NEW TIRES AND AN ALIGNMENT! I COULD HAVE DONE THAT DOWN THE STREET FOR LESS MONEY. I EXPECT GM TO DO A RECALL AND FIX THIS SUSPENSION ISSUES- WE HAVE REPLACED TIRES 3 TIMES IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS AND ALIGNED 2 TIMES. WHAT KIND OF NONSENSE IS IT TO TELL MY SON HE DOESN'T NEED THE KIT? AFTER SO MANY COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME ISSUE\GM ISSUED A TSB #08032 FOR POLICE IMPALAS THAT ARE ON THE SAME PLATFORM AND SUSPENSION, BUT NEVER EXTENDED THAT TO THE PUBLIC. SEEMS TO ME THAT THE REAR SUSPENSION HAS AN SEVERE DEFECT THAT CAN CAUSE TIRE BLOWOUT WITHOUT WARNING. NO TIRES SHOULD WEAR LIKE THAT WITH LESS THAN 17,000 MILES WITHOUT A REAR SUSPENSION AND ALIGNMENT PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED FOR REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT OF THE PARTS AND TIRES. DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE DUE A DEFECT ON THE CAR ITSELF? THIS HAS TO BE FIXED FOR EVERYONE. *TR
SEVERE TIRE WEAR. 2008 CHEVY IMPALA WITH GOODYEAR INTEGRITY TIRES. HAD TO HAVE ALL FOUR TIRES REPLACED AT 33,000 MILES, MIND YOU THESE ARE 50,000 MILES TIRES THAT HAVE BEEN ROTATED AND KEPT AT THE RECOMMENDED PSI. THEY ARE SEVERELY WORN ON THE INNER AND OUTER EDGES AND CAN SEE THE WEAR BARS. WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE TIRES TO BEGIN WITH ARE JUNK! I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO REPLACE THEM BEING THAT THIS CAR IS A LEASE AND ONLY HAVE 4 MONTHS LEFT WITH IT TILL THE TURN IN DATE. THE UNNAMED TIRE STORE TOLD ME THAT I NEED AN ALIGNMENT BUT THE DEALERSHIP THAT MY CAR GOES TO NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT NEEDING THE ALIGNMENT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP, THE VEHICLE HESITATED BEFORE JERKING INTO GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO INTERMITTENTLY HESITATE WHILE ACCELERATING AND WOULD JERK IN VARIOUS GEARS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 84,000.
I HAVE A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. I PURCHASED 4 NEW TIRES FOR THE VEHICLE. WITHIN A FEW MONTHS, I NOTICED THAT BOTH REAR TIRES HAD A STRIP APPROXIMATELY 2 TO 3 INCHES WIDE WORN COMPLETELY BALD. THE STRIP WAS ON THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE, MOVING TOWARDS THE CENTER OF THE TIRE. THE WEAR STRIP WAS SO BAD THAT THE TIRES WERE USELESS AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS DEFECT WAS NOT A TIRE ISSUE, NOR A DRIVER ISSUE. THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN BY ADULTS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED. THE CHECK ENGINE AND THE POWER REDUCED WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND THE FAILURE RECURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE PEDAL SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA AND WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, SO MY TIRES WERE TURNED AT AN ANGLE. WHEN BACKING UP, I LOST ALL POWER STEERING MAKING IT VERY HARD TO TURN THE WHEEL. ONCE I BACKED OUT AND PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE THE STEERING BEGAN TO WORK AGAIN. I CHECKED POWER STEERING FLUID BUT IT WAS NOT LOW. THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS FAIRLY REGULARLY. *TR
WE HAVE A 2008 IMPALA, WE HAD TO HAVE NEW REAR TIRES AT 24,000 MILES AND REALIGNED. MY TIRES WERE SO BAD IT ALMOST DID NOT PASS INSPECTION. THAT IS HOW I FOUND OUT ABOUT THE TIRES BEING BAD. AND NOW I HEAR THAT OTHERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE THE BEFORE AND AFTER MEASUREMENTS. *TT

CHECK AIRBAG SYSTEM INDICATOR KEPT COMING ON IN MY 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO GET REPAIRED AND THEY TOLD ME BECAUSE I HAD OVER 36,000 MILES IT WAS NO LONGER COVERED. I HAD NO PROBLEM WITH THAT , BUT THE SERVICE MANAGER INDICATED THAT IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP WAS ABLE TO MAKE THE REPAIR THE SAME DAY. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE TROUBLE WAS WITH THE FRONT PASSENGER SEATBELT RETRACTOR, WHICH WAS COMMON, AND THAT IT DISABLED THE PASSENGER AIRBAG. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS THE VEHICLE DECELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE SECONDARY AIR INJECTION PUMP FAILED. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE LOCATION OF THE PUMP WAS NEAR THE GROUND AND WOULD BE EXPOSED TO MOISTURE ON A RAINY DAY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000.
THE CHEVY IMPALA SEEMS TO BE A FINE VEHICLE IN FOR NORMAL, EVERYDAY DRIVING. IN EMERGENCY SITUATIONS, THOUGH, IT'S HANDLING BECOMES VERY UNPREDICTABLE. I HAD A CAR PULL OUT IN FRONT OF ME YESTERDAY, CAUSING ME TO BRAKE HARD. THE ANTILOCK BRAKES SEEMED TO WORK FINE, HOWEVER, THE REAR END OF THE CAR SLEWED OUT INTO ANOTHER LANE EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS NO LOCKUP OF THE WHEELS - THE CAR SHOULD HAVE TRACKED STRAIGHT - I WAS TRAVELING IN A STRAIGHT AHEAD MANNER. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME I'VE HAD THE CAR REACT IN THIS MANNER. I DID A LITTLE RESEARCH ON THE CAR'S HANDLING - I NOTED CONSUMER REPORT'S UNDERSTATED SUMMARY OF THE CAR HAVING "UNSETTLED" HANDLING. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL AND HE HEARD A GRINDING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE BRAKE PADS WERE CORRODED WHICH CAUSED THE ROTORS TO FAIL. THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 16,500. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED. UPDATED 01/03/11
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND SHUT OFF. HE ATTEMPTED TO UNLOCK THE VEHICLE USING THE ELECTRONIC FOB. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT UNLOCK USING THE FOB SO HE HAD TO MANUALLY UNLOCK THE VEHICLE. UPON OPENING THE DOOR HE NOTICED BLACK SMOKE WITHIN THE VEHICLE AND A FLAME IGNITED IN THE CENTER OF THE DASHBOARD. HE CLOSED THE DOOR AND THE FLAME EXTINGUISHED ITSELF. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT APPEARED ON THE SCENE AND HE WAS INFORMED THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL FIRE SO THE BATTERY WAS DISCONNECTED. THE POLICE DID NOT APPEAR ON THE SCENE BUT A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE IT WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING EXAMINED FOR THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 28,000.
YESTERDAY, MY CHEVY 08 IMPALA WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK. I CONTACTED AAA WHO WAS UNABLE TO HELP ME. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO A CAR MECHANIC. HE TOLD ME THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THE WIRESUNDER THE GEAR SHIFT LEVER HAD COME UNATTACHED. I WAS TOLD THAT EVEN THOUGH CHEVY WAS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM THERE WAS NOT A RECALL AND MY MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER IT BECAUSE THE BUMPER TO BUMPER WAS OVER AT 36, 000 MILES. I HAD TO PAY $ 91 TO HAVE THE WIRES RECONNECTED BACK INTO THE PIECE EVEN THOUGH THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE WIRES ARE TO SHORT TO BEGIN WITH AND THAT IS WHY THEY CAN BECOME TANGLED AND TEAR OUT OF THE CONNECTING PIECE. I DO NOT THINK THAT IT IS FAIR FOR THE CONSUMER TO HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS WHEN IT IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURE DEFECT.. *TR

THE CONTACT OPENED THE HOOD AND NOTICED THAT THE SERPENTINE BELT WAS TORN DUE TO THE AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR LOCKING UP. THE DEALER WAS INFORMED ABOUT THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST HIM WITH THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 43000. UPDATED 12/30/10 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE ENGINE STALLED. THE CONSUMER WHEN HE PULLED OVER AND OPENED THE HOOD, HE NOTICED THE SERPENTINE BELT HAD SHREDDED. THE CONSUMER REPLACED THE BELT, ONLY FOR IT TO HAPPEN AGAIN AS SOON AS HE TURNED ON THE AC. THE DEALER REPLACED THE AC COMPRESSOR. UPDATED 01/10/11*JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH OVER A SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITHOUT THE FAILURE RECURRING. A DISTRICT MANAGER RETURNED THE CONTACTS CALL AND STATED THAT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED OR DIAGNOSED; YET, THEY DID NOT PROVIDE ASSISTANCE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,048.

AS HE MADE THE SHARP LEFT, HIS VEHICLE WENT COMPLETELY OUT OF CONTROL AND SENT HIM INTO A 360 DEGREE SLIDING SPIN ACROSS THE HIGHWAY. THE END RESULT WAS THE ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUTTING DOWN. IN LESS THAN 30,000 MILES, I'VE HAD TO HAVE WHEEL ALIGNMENTS EACH TIME I WAS FORCE TO REPLACE 2 SETS OF REARS TIRES ON MY 2008 IMPALA DUE TO EXCESSIVE WEAR. BEFORE HAVING TO REPLACE THE FIRST SET OF TIRE, I HAD THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE FOR CAR VIBRATION AT SPEEDS OF 50 TO 65 MPH. I WAS TOLD THE FIRST TIME THAT ALL THE WHEELS HAD TO BE RE-BALANCED WHICH DID NOT MAKE SINCE TO ME. THE SECOND TIME I WAS TOLD THAT NOTHING WAS FOUND. THEN THE FIRST TIRE FAILURE AND FORTUNATELY ONLY AT 35 MPH. THIS FIRST FAILURE WAS AT APPROX. 15,000 MILES. ONE TIRE, BUT BOTH WERE WORN ENONGH THAT THE DEALER SHOULD HAVE FOREWARN ME BEFORE I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP. THE SECOND SET OF THE ORIGINAL TIRES MOVED TO THE REAR, WORE-OUT AT APPROX. 28,000 MILES. I HAVE NEVER IN MY 47 YEARS OF DRIVING HAD TIRES AND MULITPLE ALIGNMENTS AS I'VE HAD ON THIS CAR. *TR

MY 2008 CHEVY IMPALA HAS HAD A PROBLEM WITH FRONT BRAKES SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. ON STEEP OR LONG GRADES, WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED, THERE IS A VERY BAD SHUTTERING WHICH GETS WORSE IF THE GRADE IS LONGER. TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 08032 IS ON FILE WITH GENERAL MOTORS, ACKNOWLEDGING THE PROBLEM, BUT WILLING ONLY TO PAY FOR NECESSARY REPAIRS TO POLICE VEHICLES, WHEN IN FACT THE FLAW EXISTS WITH ALL 2007-2008 IMPALA VEHICLES. THE SERVICE TECH INFORMED ME I NEEDED TO REPLACE TIRES SINCE THEY WERE WORN TO THE TREAD. THEY WOULD NOT COVER IT UNDER WARRANTY SO I TOOK IT TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP AND WAS INFORMED THIS WAS A FREQUENT (NORMAL?) OCCURRENCE ON THESE VEHICLES DUE TO FACTORY DEFECTS. I PAID THE $581.12 FOR TIRES AND REPAIR DUE TO THE FAULTY ALIGNMENT FROM FACTORY. I WAS NOT AWARE OF EXTENSIVE INVOLVEMENT UNTIL I DID A GOOGLE SEARCH RECENTLY. I DID KEEP THE RECEIPTS, ETC AND HAVE HAD NO SUBSEQUENT PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE NOW HAVING OVER 40,000 MILES ON IT. *TR

HAD RESEARCHED AND FOUND PREVIOUS TO MY OWN EXPERIENCE THAT OTHERS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, SO I HAD BEEN MONITORING MY OWN TIRES TO SEE IF IT WAS A DESIGN FLAW. ONE MECHANIC TOLD ME AFTER I PURCHASE 4 NEW TIRES, WHICH ONLY HAVE 34,000 MILES ON A 50,000 MILE RATING, HE WOULD TRY AN ALIGNMENT TO SEE IF IT NEED FOUR NEW STRUTS AS HE WAS ASSUMING WAS THE MAIN PROBLEM BEHIND THE TIRE WEAR. I CALLED A LOCAL GM SERVICE CENTER TO SEE IF THEY HAD SUGGESTIONS FOR ME. THE GUY TOLD ME 4 NEW TIRES AND THE FEW OTHERS WE HAVE SERVICED WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, AN ADJUSTMENT HAD TO BE MADE BY ELONGATING THE HOLES TO PULL THE TIRES INTO A GOOD ALIGNMENT, ELIMINATING THE OUTWARD CAMBER. HE FOUND THIS INFO IN A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN. GM HAS RECALLED PUBLIC SERVICE VEHICLES, IE POLICE CARS, OF THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL, BUT HAS YET TO SEE THE PUBLIC SAFETY HAZARD BEHIND THIS EASILY REMEDIED ISSUE. I WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST ME AT-LEAST $700 FOR PREMATURELY WORN TIRES AND REPAIRS AND ADJUSTMENTS. IMAGINE IF I HAD BEEN AWARE OF THIS PREVIOUS TO MY OWN INCIDENT. I WOULD ASSUME I STILL HAD 15-20000 MILES OF TREAD-LIFE LEFT AND WOULD BE DRIVING MY CAR AS IF THERE WERE NO PROBLEM AT-ALL UNTIL MY TIRES BLEW WHILE DRIVING MY SON BACK TO HIS MOTHERS HOUSE, CAUSING AN ACCIDENT, KILLING MY SON AND I AS WELL AS TWO OTHERS IN ANOTHER VEHICLE. THERE-IN LAYS THE SAFETY ISSUE. A PROMPT AND THOROUGH INVESTIGATION WILL SHOW IT'S A DESIGN FLAW THAT IS PUTTING LIVES AT RISK. WHEN I SPOKE WITH THE DEALERSHIP, ONE OF THE PEOPLE TRIED TO PASS IT OFF AS A CHIP FROM A ROCK THAT SPREAD, BUT THERE IS NO MARK FROM A ROCK IN THE AREA AND IT'S ALSO VERY LOW DOWN ON THE WINDSHIELD-HARD TO BELIEVE A ROCK COULD HIT AT THE BASE OF MY WINDSHIELD AND NOT LEAVE A MARK. I AM CURRENTLY IN TALKS WITH CHEVY AND THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THIS MATTER TAKEN CARE OF. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT I CAUSED, BUT RATHER SOMETHING WITH MY WINDSHIELD I BELIEVE AS DO OTHERS WHO HAVE LOOKED AT THE WINDOW. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP, THE VEHICLE HESITATED BEFORE JERKING INTO GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE AFTER DRIVING IT OVER 140 MILES. AFTER LICKING UP THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO INTERMITTENTLY HESITATE WHILE ACCELERATING AND WOULD JERK IN VARIOUS GEARS. THE FIRST FAILURE MILEAGE WAS AROUND 60000 AND THE CURRURT MILEAGE IS 88000. ALSO SOMETIMES WOULD JERK FROM 1ST GEAR TO SECOND GEAR. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN TO AGAIN CHECK OUT MY PROBLEM. THE CAR IS STILL IN THE WARRANTY PERIOD. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM ONLINE THAT OTHER PEOPLE HAVE POSTED, IT ALL SEEMS TO POINT TO A PRESSURE SOLENOID IN THE TRANSMISSION BUT THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT REPLACE THE PART UNLESS THEY CAN DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM.

WHICH MY CAR ALSO FALLS IN THIS RANGE. THEY HAD DEFECTIVE SPINDLE RODS IN THEM, HOWEVER AS A CONSUMER AND NOT A "POLICE" VEHICLE GM TELLS ME I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR HAVING THE PROPER WORK DONE TO HAVE MY CAR FIXED. UPON SEARCHING MYSELF I HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS "CONSUMER" COMPLAINTS REGARDING PREMATURE TIRE WEAR ON THESE VEHICLES. I HAVE A 2008 IMPALA, WITH 38,000 MILES. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE MY REAR TIRES LAST YEAR DUE TO EXCESSIVE INSIDE WEAR. I READ AN ARTICLE THAT THE 2008 IMPALAS HAVE DEFECTIVE SPINDLE RODS, WHICH CONNECT THE SUSPENSION TO THE REAR WHEELS. THE DEFECT CAUSES THE WHEELS TO MISALIGN, WHICH MAKES THE TIRES WEAR OUT FASTER. THE TIRES COULD ALSO WEAR OUT UNEVENLY, INCREASING THE RISK OF A BLOWOUT. GM HAS CORRECTED THIS ISSUE ON THE IMPALAS DRIVEN BY THE POLICE DEPT BUT HAS NOT DONE ANYTHING TO THE CONSUMER.
