THE REDUCED POWER LIGHT CAME ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I CHECKED ONLINE AND IT SEEMS LIKE A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. IT IS A MAJOR CONCERN BECAUSE IT WILL SLOW YOUR VEHICLE DOWN IF YOUR GOING AT HIGH SPEEDS. *TR
SUBJECT: 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA REAR TIRE WEAR. CASE # [XXX]VIN # IS [XXX] WE ARE HAVING A PROBLEM WITH OUR 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. OUR REAR TIRES ARE WEARING OUT TWICE AS FAST AS THE FRONT TIRES. I WENT TO COSTCO YESTERDAY TO HAVE MY TIRES ROTATED, AFTER LOOKING AT THE REAR TIRES WE HAD TO BUY NEW ONES BECAUSE THE BACK TIRES WERE WORN DOWN TO THE METAL BACKING, THE FRONT TIRES WERE STILL GOOD. ONLY ONE HALF OF THE WARRANTY HAD BEEN USED. THE TIRES WERE MICHELIN X-RADIAL DT MICH PASSENGER S/T P225/60R16 BW MSPN 17457 TIRES WITH AN 80,000 MILE WARRANTY. WE ENDED UP BUYING FOUR NEW MICHELIN TIRES FOR AROUND $600.00. THE COSTCO GUY THOUGHT THAT SOMETHING MUST BE WRONG WITH THE CAR. AFTER I GOT HOME I CHECKED ON THE INTERNET AS TO WHAT COULD CAUSE THIS PROBLEM AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE 2007 AND 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA'S. THERE HAD BEEN A SERVICE BULLETIN #08032A SENT OUT IN 2011 TO REPLACE THE SPINDLE RODS ON ALL THE 2007 AND 2008 IMPALA'S THAT WERE SOLD AS POLICE CARS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM THAT THEY WERE HAVING WITH REAR TIRE WEAR. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THAT SERVICE BULLETIN EXTENDED ALL THE OTHER 2007 AND 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA'S. THE PART NUMBER FOR THE SPINDLE ROD IS THE SAME ON ALL 2008 IMPALAS, POLICE OR NON POLICE. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM AND PEOPLE ARE GOING TO BE KILLED IF THIS PROBLEM IS NOT FIXED, YOU JUST DON'T EXPECT THE TIRES TO WEAR OUT SO FAST. WE HAD JUST FINISHED A TRIP WERE WE DROVE FREEWAY SPEEDS UP TO 75 MILES AN HOUR. AFTER SEEING OUR TIRES I DON'T KNOW HOW WE KEEP FROM HAVING A BLOW OUT ON THE BACK TIRES. I THINK THAT LOTS OF ACCIDENTS HAVE HAPPENED WITH THESE 2007 AND 2008 CHEVY IMPALAS WITH TIRES BLOWING OUT BECAUSE REAR TIRE WEAR BECAUSE THE SPINDLE BOLTS ARE ENGINEERED WRONG AND EVERY ONE THINKS ITS THE TIRES FAULT.. "REDUCED ENGINE POWER" MESSAGE IS DISPLAYED AND THE CAR SLOWED TO ABOUT 20 MPH. HAD THIS BEEN THE HIGHWAY WE COULD HAVE HAD A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. ACCORDING TO VARIOUS BLOGS ON THE INTERNET GM IS IGNORING THIS LIFE THREATENING DEFECT. I WOULD PAY FOR A FIX BUT THERE DOESN'T SEEM TO BE ONE AT THIS TIME. I WILL GIVE A CHEVY DEALER A CHANCE TO MAKE IT RIGHT BUT AM NOT HOLDING MY BREATH. *TR

WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY (60MPH), WITHOUT WARNING THE CAR SLOWS TO 20MPH AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON WITH AN ERROR MESSAGE ABOUT THE TRACTION CONTROL. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION, BUT I WAS NOT REAR-ENDED. *TR
I STARTED MY CAR AND THE RPM'S WENT TO 0. MESSAGE STATED "SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL" AND ENGINE POWER REDUCED". WHEN I LOOKED UP INFORMATION ONLINE I NOTICED MANY PEOPLE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH CHEVY/GM CARS.
UNEVEN REAR TIRE WEAR. JUST HAVE 24000 MILES ON NEW TIRES. DISCOVERED PROBLEM WITH SPINDLE, REAR TIRE ALIGNMENT BY CHEVY FROM 2007 AND 2008 MODELS POLICE MODELS ONLY BY SEARCHING ON LINE. CONTACTED DEALER AND ASKED ABOUT PROBLEMS OR RECALLS AND STATED NO PROBLEMS, JUST NEED A 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING, THE REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER FAILED TO ACTIVATE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,500.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL DOOR LOCKS FAILED TO LOCK AND UNLOCK ELECTRONICALLY AND MANUALLY. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM (TPMS) WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE SERVICE TIRE MONITOR SYSTEM WAS DISPLAYED ACROSS THE MESSAGE BOARD. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALL FOUR LOCKS AND THE TPMS SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE TPSM WAS REPLACED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE LOCKS WERE NOT REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
NO INCIDENT. THIS IS A COMPLAINT ABOUT THE RECALL FOR CHEVY IGNITION SWITCHES. CHEVY'S REPAIR IS TO GIVE YOU A KEY RING THAT SEPARATES THE IGNITION KEYS FROM THE OTHER KEYS. MOST PEOPLE WON'T BOTHER AND A FRIEND DRIVING YOUR CAR ISN'T GOING TO KNOW. ALL YOU HAVE DONE IS GIVE GM'S LAWYERS A LOOPHOLE FOR LARGE LAWSUITS. THEY CAN CLAIM THE OWNER DIDN'T SEPARATE THE KEYS. THIS IS [XXX]. THE CORRECT REPAIR IS TO REPLACE THE BAD SWITCH. HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO DIE OR GET INJURED BEFORE YOU DO THE RIGHT THING INSTEAD OF LETTING GM DO THE HALF ASS THING THAT PROTECTS THEM FROM LAWSUITS. HASN'T GM BEEN BAILED OUT ENOUGH. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL FOUR DOOR LOCKS MALFUNCTIONED AND PREVENTED THE DOORS FROM LOCKING. ALSO, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE REAR DOORS FAILED TO UNLOCK INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT ALL FOUR DOOR ACTUATORS WERE DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 103,358.
ALL DOOR LOCKS HAVE STOPPED WORKING. THE DOORS WILL NOT LOCK OR UNLOCK WITH THE REMOTE OR WITH THE INSIDE LOCK BUTTONS ON THE INTERIOR DOOR. EACH DOOR HAS TO BE MANUALLY LOCKED AND UNLOCKED. WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR, WHEN THE TRANSMISSION WAS PLACED IN GEAR, THE DOORS WOULD AUTOMATICALLY LOCK. THE DOORS EACH HAVE TO BE MANUALLY LOCKED AND UNLOCKED. THE ONLY KEYHOLE ON THE CAR IS ON THE DRIVERS DOOR TO UNLOCK THE CAR. THERE ARE NUMEROUS REPORTS OF THIS ISSUE ON THE INTERNET FOR THE YEAR MODELS 2008 AND 2009. THE PARTS ALONE ARE $450 TO $1,000. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE A RECALL BECAUSE: 1. THE DOORS NO LONGER AUTOMATICALLY LOCK WHEN THE CAR IS PLACED IN GEAR. AUTOMATIC LOCKS WERE MOST LIKELY LISTED ON THE WINDOW STICKER. 2. IF A CHILD IS LOCKED IN THE CAR, THE DOOR WILL NOT UNLOCK WITH REMOTE AND CAN ONLY BE ACCESSED FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. 3. NOT BEING ABLE TO ACCESS THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOOR WITH THE KEY IS A SAFETY ISSUE TO ME. MY CAR ONLY HAS 45,100 MILES ON IT AND THE LOCKS HAVE NOT WORKED IN OVER TWO YEARS. THE CONSUMER STATED THE MANUFACTURER DECLINED TO OFFER ASSISTANCE DUE TO THE VEHICLE BEING OUT OF WARRANTY. *JS
I LET ME 2008 CHEVY IMPALA WARM UP AS THE WINDCHILL IS AROUND -35 DEGREES BELOW ZERO. I STARTED OUT OF THE PARKING LOT, WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY MESSAGE DISPLAY SAID "REDUCING ENGINE SPEED", THEN IT SAID "SERVICE DISABLED, DISABLED SERVICE THROTTLE". THEN THE VEH CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND LEFT ME STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF A PARKING LOT! THERE ARE NO TOWERS AVAILABLE AT ALL TILL TOMORROW MORNING EITHER. TRIED JUMPING STARTING THE VEHICLE - BUT TO NO AVAIL. CALLED A CHEVY DEALER AND THEY HAD NO IDEA WHAT WAS HAPPENING WITH IT. *TR
I WAS STRUCK BY A TRUCK THAT WENT THOUGH A BLINKING RED. HE STATED HE WAS JUST PULLING OUT. I SAW HIS VEHICLE ENTERING THE INTERSECTION ON MY RIGHT, SLOWED DOWN AND PULLED OVER AS FAR AS POSSIBLE TO MY LEFT, TO THE EDGE OF THE ROAD AND THE SNOW BANK. HE IMPACTED MY PASSENGER SIDE DOOR AND FRONT FENDER,HEAD LIGHT AND BUMPER. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY NOR DID THE ONSTAR AUTO CALL FOR HELP. I HAVE ALREADY BEEN IN CONTACT AND ONSTAR TOLD ME I SHOULD HAVE PUSHED THE BUTTON. GM SAID I SHOULD HAVE PUSHED THE BUTTON BUT HAS OPENED AN INVESTIGATION AS TO WHAT HAPPENED. THEY HAVE ALREADY CONTACTED MY AUTO INSURANCE, WHO THEN CONTACTED ME FOR PERMISSION TO INSPECT AND COLLECT INFORMATION FROM MY VEHICLE. BOTH INSURANCE COMPANIES AGREED THAT MY CAR WAS TOTALED, OVER $9,500 IN DAMAGES WITHOUT BEING TAKEN APART OR PUT ON A LIFT. I WAS TAKEN AWAY BY AMBULANCE WITH INJURIES TO MY NECK, SHOULDER AND BACK WHICH I AM STILL RECOVERING FROM. THE OTHER DRIVER WAS FOUND AT FAULT AN RECEIVED A CITATION. I CALLED THE POLICE FROM MY PERSONAL CELL PHONE. I ENDED UP IN THE ER WITH INJURIES TO MY LEFT SHOULDER, NECK AND LOWER BACK WHICH I AM STILL RECOVERING FROM. *TR
THE ISSUE WITH MY 2008 IMPALA IS A WELL DOCUMENTED PROBLEM WITH THIS PARTICULAR MAKE. THE CAR REDUCES POWER AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND THE ABS AND SERVICE TRACTION LIGHTS STAY ON. THERE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE A FIX FOR THE ISSUE. I ACTUALLY WOULD LIKE TO FORM A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST GM TO HAVE THIS RECALLED. ONLY GOVT. ISSUED VEHICLES WERE RECALLED. ALONG WITH POLICE MODELS. I WAS TRAVELING ON AN INTERSTATE IN 9/7/15 WHEN MY SPEED SUDDENLY DROPPED. THIS IS A SERIOUS AND CAN BE FATAL ISSUE FOR A NUMBER OF MODELS AND YEARS. PLEASE ADVISE OF PURSUING THE SUIT.
WHILE DRIVING MY CAR THE SPEED REDUCED ITSELF FROM 40MPH TO 5 MPH AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH REDUCED ENGINE POWER ACROSS MY DASHBOARD. THE CAR STARTED SHAKING AND JERKING. IT THEN SHUT OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT. I HAD IT TOWED THE NEXT DAY TO THE REPAIR SHOP AND THEY SAID A SENSOR WAS BAD IN THE GAS PEDAL AND REPLACED THE WHOLE PEDAL. 4 DAYS LATER IT DID THE SAME THING. AGAIN IT STARTED SHAKING AND JERKING THEN SHUT ITSELF OFF. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE REPAIR SHOP BUT BY THE TIME THEY COULD READ THE CODES THE CAR HAD BEEN SHUT OFF LONG ENOUGH THAT THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING. THEY CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY AND GAVE IT BACK. THE NEXT DAY IT DID THE SAME THING. I AGAIN TOOK IT BACK AND DID NOT SHUT IT OFF TIL THEY READ THE CODES. IT READ THE THROTTLE BODY WAS BAD. THEY REPLACED IT AND GAVE THE CAR BACK. 30 MILES LATER, IT STARTED ALL OVER AGAIN. I HAVE SPOKE TO GENERAL MOTORS AND THEY REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS ISSUE EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE SEVERAL FORUMS ON THE WEB WITH IMPALAS DATING BACK TO 2005 HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE. THIS IS GOING TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AND HURT/KILL PEOPLE IF ITS NOT ADDRESSED SOON. *TR
AS I WAS DRIVING, I GOT A NOTIFICATION ON MY DASHBOARD THAT READ "ENGINE POWER REDUCED SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL". I CONTINUED TO DRIVE TO MY DESTINATION OR SOMEWHERE I COULD SAFELY PULL OVER. AS I DROVE, THE POWER TO MY VEHICLE HAD REDUCED SIGNIFICANTLY. DURING THIS TIME, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AS WELL AS THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT STAYED ON. AFTER ABOUT 20 MINUTES OR SO, THE LIGHTS WENT OFF AND THE CAR BEGIN TO OPERATE WITHOUT INCIDENT. AFTER THE DAY OF THE INITIAL INCIDENT, I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM OCCUR 2 MORE TIMES ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS. I HAVE HAD MY CAR SINCE 2011 AND I HAVE HAD NO ACCIDENTS SO I AM NOT SURE WHERE OR WHY THIS ISSUE IS HAPPENING BUT I AM DEFINITELY NOT HAPPY ABOUT IT. I AM ALSO HAVING ISSUES WITH A KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM MY GLOVEBOX AS WELL AS THE AIRBAGS LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON. IS THERE A RECALL THAT I AM NOT AWARE OF THAT AFFECTS THESE ISSUES? IF NOT, WHAT CAN BE DONE TO RECTIFY THIS PROBLEM. I AM A PROUD CHEVY OWNER AND WOULD LIKE TO REMAIN LOYAL TO CHEVY HOWEVER IF I AM NOT ABLE TO GET SOME SORT OF RESOLUTION FOR THESE PROBLEMS, I MAY HAVE TO LOOK AT GOING TO A DIFFERENT MANUFACTURER. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE RACK AND PINION STEERING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000.
THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS AND WILL NOT ALLOW THE CAR TO SPEED UP WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A DEAD STOP. IT WILL THEN SUDDENLY REV UP AND TAKE OFF OR THE WHEELS WILL SPIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES IN A DAY AND THEN BE FINE FOR A FEW DAYS. IT WORKS FINE IF SHIFTED MANUALLY. VERY DANGEROUS WHEN CROSSING INTERSECTIONS AND NOT KNOWING IF THERE WILL BE ANY POWER TO ACCELERATE. THE SUDDEN JERK IS HARD TO DEAL WITH IN THE WISCONSIN SLIPPERY WEATHER CONDITIONS. I HAVE SEEN MANY COMPLAINTS ON THE WEB FOR THE SAME ISSUE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V355000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) HOWEVER, THE RECALL REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED UNDER THE RECALL REPAIR, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
I WAS GOING 65 MPH ON THE FREEWAY AND OUT OF NOWHERE MY ENGINE WENT INTO POWER REDUCE MODE WITHOUT WARNING AND I ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED BAD WITH MY CHILD IN THE CAR WITH ME. I DID GET TAPPED FROM BEHIND BUT REALLY NOTHING MAJOR BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE THANK GOD I WAS ABLE TO WALK AWAY FROM THAT. MIND YOU I JUST PICKED MY CAR UP THAT FRIDAY FROM THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP THEY CHANGED THE THROTTLE BODY AND STILL THE SAME PROBLEM. NOW THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I PICKED MY CAR UP FROM THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THE FIRST TIME THEY TRIED TO TELL ME IT WAS THE BATTERY. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE I'M HAVING AND IT SHOULDN'T BE TAKEN LIGHTLY. THE REPAIR SHOP INDICATED THAT INFERIOR GASKETS/SEALS IN THE 1) ENGINES INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET AND 2) THE RACK AND PINION SYSTEM CAUSED PREMATURE LEAKS TO OCCUR IN THE MODELS. REPAIR COSTS ARE ESTIMATED AT APPROX. $2,000. *TR
